“They love so unreservedly, the Bridgertons. Even when they are oblivious to the love in their heart, it bleeds all over the floor.”, said Kate as she turned and smiled at Penelope. “It can be daunting, especially when it is something you never expected for yourself. And I think maybe you and I are similar in that we created a life which made it difficult to allow for such expectations.”
Today it's been 2 years since the publication of The Path Forward heralded my return to fanfiction. Since then, over 900 kind souls have left kudos and comments, making my heart soar and spirits fly. I cannot thank you all enough for the inspiration that propelled me to continue writing, rediscovering my long lost love of the craft.
I am currently on hiatus for personal reasons, but I wanted to put this up today as a show of gratitude to all readers and writers out there. I also want to take the chance to bid the events of The Path Forward farewell, now that the third season is almost upon us with a plot that does not make room for my hopeful speculations in that particular piece.
Like all of you, I cannot wait to see how Colin's and Penelope's beautiful friends-to-lovers story unfolds, and will ride all the emotions with you come May 16th.
In the meantime, if you're bored or just curious, feel free to give The Path Forward a little love before it officially transforms from speculation to alternate take for season 3.
All the best!

I’ll take care of [Kaz]. As much as he’ll let me.

Chapter 4 is up!  Inej rediscovering her lust,  albeit only briefly before she deals with nightmares, is important to me! Even if neither Inej nor Kaz is anywhere near ready to act on those urges, the role that fantasies play in reconquering your own sexuality after abuse is so crucial. So it starts there, with a glimpse of bare skin and a thirst for more.
Chapters: 4/? Fandom: Six of Crows Series - Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone (TV) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: Kaz Brekker/Inej Ghafa Characters: Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, Nina Zenik, Matthias Helvar, Jesper Fahey, Wylan Van Eck Additional Tags: Trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - PTSD, Implied Sexual Content, Implied/Referenced Sexual Assault, Touch Aversion, Healing, Love, soft kanej, Kanej - Freeform, Friendship, Crows, Canon Compliant, Inej Ghafa-centric, Kanej-centric Summary:
Inej has left her friends to hunt slavers and search for her family, but when a cryptic letter arrives she makes a decision that will once again alter the course of her life. On a journey touched by danger and death, will she find the strength to heal and the courage to love?
This story starts at the end of Shadow and Bone S2 and encompasses my vision for season 3 from Inej's point of view. It will comply with the SoC duology canon, except for where the show has already deviated.

Chapter 3 of my attempt to blend book canon with show changes is up, and it is time to enter the Fjerda and the Ice Court. But what will compel Inej to climb six stories in the dark when she already found – and lost a little faith – her purpose?

I've written, read and watched my fair share of achingly beautiful lovemaking and downright dirty smut, but nothing, NOTHING, beats the eroticism of Kaz Brekker slowly and methodically peeling the gloves off his trembling hands in front of Inej Ghafa.

I had to write something for Kanej in season 3 (or the spinoff), just in case we don’t get one. For my own sanity, you understand.

Should we be concerned that S&B has dropped out of the top 10 in Australia for the first day since the premiere? I was hoping for at least six weeks in the top 10 (since Sandman stayed there for that amount of time and was renewed), but it might only be five? I am desperate for at least the SoC spin-off – we can’t leave everything on such an awful cliffhanger.
I’m distracting myself by writing Inej’s trauma, but it’s hard to focus!

hi! i discovered your blog and am hoping you might be able to answer my q. i've watched all of s&b and am interested in reading the six of crows duology because i need more crows. do i need to read the s&b trilogy first or could i just read six of crows? thank you!!!
Hi! You don't need to read S&B to understand the Six of Crows duology so if the Crows caught your imagination I would go straight to the duology (Six of Crows + Crooked Kingdom).
However, if you plan to read the next duology (King of Scars + Rule of Wolves) you might want to read the S&B trilogy first to get some background on Nikolai.

Post S2E8 Kanej fic?
A little voice sounding suspiciously like Inej’s is whispering words of trauma, healing and hope in my ear.
I normally write SoC duology-based fics (AUs or post-canon), but this voice is quite insistent. A fix-it of the S&B S2 ending for my own sake perhaps? About Inej reclaiming her freedom, examining her feelings, and finding her way back to her found family – and a certain scoundrel of a thief – in Ketterdam.
I think it’s happening. While I’m streaming S&B on my phone of course.

And now we need a renewal and/or spinoff so we can see his eyes soften and a small smile forming as joy floods his heart when Inej tells him she isn’t done with Ketterdam and holds his hand in the harbour.

“ ‘And how will you have me, Kaz?’ He looked at her then, eyes fierce, mouth set. It was the face he wore when he was fighting. ‘How will you have me?’ she repeated. ‘Fully clothed, gloves on, your head turned away so our lips can never touch?’ He released her hand, his shoulders bunching, his gaze angry and ashamed as he turned his face to the sea. Maybe it was because his back was to her that she could finally speak the words. ‘I will have you without armor, Kaz Brekker. Or I will not have you at all.’ ”

it was a joke on them being touchy vs the show... literally chill omfg are u a baby😭 inej isnt a real person<3 and if u get triggered by people talking about a fictional character you are better off away from the internet and maybe at a care-home
Oh my sweet fellow traveller on the treacherous seas of the internet. I'm sorry if my commentary aimed at explaining the strong reactions to a well-meaning but poorly executed joke triggered you enough to visit my inbox anonymously.
First of all, I do not want you to worry about my state of mind. I am ”chilling” happily in my steadfast belief that I am entitled to bring forth my opinion on the world wide web, and I rest peacefully in the knowledge that I can cope with any differing opinions – yours included – without having to check myself into a care facility. A word of caution however: There are plenty of people out there who carry easily triggered traumas and who are in genuine need of mental health support. An ask such as this might do more harm than you think, so I'd advise you to avoid personal attacks and try constructive criticism aimed at the arguments you found objectionable.
In this case, I believe that the characterisation of a fictional character matters to quite a few people so I wrote a passionate opinion piece on said character. Your fear is that this makes me a vulnerable infant who needs to abstain from online activities.
My suggested solution is that we simply agree to disagree, instead of cancelling each other's right to exist peacefully on this shared and wonderful platform.

Night Agent? How?
The adaptation of a book with cardboard characters and a run of the mill conspiracy plot is top on Netflix, ahead of a sprawling fantasy adventure with complex character and a whole colourful Grishaverse to explore. Give the people what they want I guess? Or perhaps open their eyes – keep streaming for the spinoff and/or S3.

Sometimes you don’t NEED skin on skin
Just to really bring the point home for those who have not read the Six of Crows duology and think that Inej deserves to “have some fun before she finds her way back to her true love”, or who perhaps think that a love triangle/jealousy drama would somehow spur Kaz into action (do you even know Kaz Brekker?):
For someone connected to the production to caption a photo of the actors with the (crack) ship name of their characters (“Tonej”) and talk about “skin on skin” might seem innocent (”it’s just an Insta post”), but let’s look at the context for those who are upset by this – some of whom have suffered similar traumas and find comfort/inspiration in Inej’s character.
Here is a sample of Inej’s previous experience of skin on skin:
There were young men, old men, handsome men, ugly men. There was the man who cried and struck her when he could not perform. The man who wanted her to pretend it was their wedding night and tell him that she loved him. The man with sharp teeth like a kitten who had bitten at her breasts until she’d bled. Crooked Kingdom p. 274 Kindle version
And these are the men she remembers; mostly she forced herself to go numb, while making all the right noises and moves so Tante Heleen would not abuse her further.
Because she loves Kaz, she tells him she is willing to work on that trauma IF HE WORKS ON HIS. This does not mean that she is itching for skin on skin action there and then, it means she wants to be ready for it if they are to have a future together.
What if he had come to her, laid his gloves aside, drawn her to him, kissed her mouth? Would she have pulled him closer? Kissed him back? Could she have been herself in such a moment or would she have broken apart and vanished, a doll in his arms, a girl who could never quite be whole? Crooked Kingdom, p. 275 Kindle version
This is her mindset as she boards that ship in S2E8. She does not need a man who is basically a stranger to be her ticket out of trauma – not even a lovely one like Tolya (who in turn does not need or want romance in his life to be fulfilled). She needs healing, a purpose and – as a character – not to be reduced to half a ship in a fling which would be nothing but a waste of precious screentime.
EDIT: Inserting screenshot of the caption/tagging of the photo depicting Amita Suman and Lewis Tan, just to highlight the clear reference to the characters  and not the actors, whatever was claimed afterwards.

It’s complete! I am so emotional because this turned into a monster of a fic and at times I wondered if I’d be able to complete it.
It’s not perfect but it’s my baby!
Chapters: 10/10 Fandom: Shadow and Bone (TV), Six of Crows Series - Leigh Bardugo Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: Kaz Brekker/Inej Ghafa, Kaz Brekker & Jesper Fahey Characters: Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, Nina Zenik, Matthias Helvar, Jesper Fahey, Inej Ghafa's Mother, Inej Ghafa's Father, Jordie Rietveld, Wylan Van Eck Additional Tags: Love, soft kanej, Implied Sexual Content, minor wesper, minor helnik, Mentions of Rape, graphic description of drug abuse/withdrawal, Violence, No Beta Summary:
Ketterdam is a city of sin, but also a place where impossible dreams can come true. Inej Ghafa arrives with strong moral convictions and lofty ambitions, hoping that her law scholarship will be a ticket to a privileged world from which she can speak for those without a voice and make a difference in the lives of others. But something happens that shakes her faith to the core, and suddenly she finds herself on the precipice of accepting an offer she should refuse – from a man with blood on his hands, vengeance on his mind and hatred in his heart.

Is Netflix incompatible with quality?
Jokes about messy plots vs the need for more crows on my screen aside, I think we can all acknowledge that the relentless competition between streaming services has become a quality problem, in particular for series with multiple seasons.
Not knowing whether the series will be renewed or if a spinoff will get the green light puts the writers in the impossible position of having to compromise between story-telling and fan service, and at the mercy of tropes that are known to be commercially viable – cheap tricks to make something left of centre palatable to a wider audience. How can you trust yourself to write an unrushed arc that makes sense, if you don’t know whether the series will ever reach the end of the rainbow?
It is no coincidence that the most beautiful pieces of art are often born out of passion and only truly appreciated after the work is completed.
