Not so Grown-Up
I’ve seen plenty of discourse in that Taiyang’s advice to Yang in RWBY Volume 4 was not so great, and that he was generally insensitive to her.
And, after some thought, I realized THAT. IS. THE. POINT.
A common theme of the Ozluminati (Which Taiyang was definitely part of) is that they are NOT the shining examples of maturity and heroism they make themselves out to be. That they are consistently hung up by their own emotional damage and Ozpin’s garbage teachings. And that these flawed outlooks end up poisoning the next generation.
So, yeah, just wanted to get that out there.

Just learned about the Internet
I know I said I wouldn't be liveblogging World of Remnant episodes but there are a couple of things of interest to me in the episode about the Cross Continental Transmit System:
Unlike previous WoR episodes, Ozpin is the narrator. What fascinates me about this is that he's narrating in character, which carries the subtle implication that the unidentified Mysterious Narrator may also be narrating in-character as whomever she turns out to be. Added to the previous clues, I think (don't tell me if I'm right or wrong please) there's a possibility that our Mysterious Narrator might just be the Big Bad that's got Team GIQO all up and flustered.
The revelation that spacecraft haven't been successfully developed because Dust loses efficacy as it leaves the Earth's atmosphere is also an interesting one. Having recently replayed the Mass Effect trilogy, as I do every few years, I can't help but think about the plot point that the mass relays tend to expediate cultural and technological development along specific trajectories according to their potential and limitations. It makes me wonder if Dust is something similar, if there's some one (perhaps even our narrator friend from the last point) who's invested in keeping humanity reliant on Dust to guide its cultural and technological advancement and also allay any attempts at space travel. The fragmented moon just adds another layer to this possibility; SOME one must have gotten to the moon at some point, and it's very possible that some one doesn't want a repeat of that event.
Not bad for a mini-sode ostensibly about neither of those things, eh?

Ruby really just fucking went into the Ever After finding out just how badly all of her plan with Amity and getting help fast failed on top of the knowledge that she will always be a target for Salem to Grimmify her or worse for the rest of her life and also the way she has NO idea whether her mom is dead or worse anymore and having it left up to her imagination. AND on top of finding out that Atlas fell and so many people died and in the end it was quite literally all for nothing. AND on top of that Penny died anyway despite the fact that everything that she’d ever wanted (finally being seen as more than just a war machine and making new friends) was finally coming true. Everything has well and truly gone to all shit possible in her mind, Penny dying wasn’t even a last straw for her it was like half the payload getting dropped on her at maximum velocity. I’m gonna go to bed <3
#the way having Silver Eyes is such a personal concept to Ruby's character and something that causes her so much pain and fear every day#I really hope they can explore it some more in Vacuo potentially#just#wanna be able to see all the other magical people who aren't Oscar describe just how it feels to them to have those powers some more#the Maidens are a long chain of souls that are carried between all those different people#SEWs are constantly getting genocided and are so far apart in time and space that most of them probably never nor ever will have any idea \#\ just what they possess and how special and how dangerous it is#Ruby only found out through the Ozluminati and a survivor of said genocide#after she accidentally knocked herself out activating it while watching her friend die in front of her#and now from literal fucking god and the instigator of it as well#Now that Winter has fully embraced the power of Love and Friendship tm I think it would be really interesting to see a more empathetic#perspective on what inheriting a Maiden's powers means#especially since it was through a genuine emotional connection that was built up over a long time this time rather than just purely a last \#\ thoughts type situation#at least from Winter's POV we know that aspect of the transfer has a ton of weight to her#wondering how fast Whitley and Willow are also gonna join the Ozluminati#no Schnee left behind from that 😭#I'm also wondering if Whitley is gonna start to embrace his semblance how that his sister is a Maiden and his other sister is a huntress#and his mom's summon literally saved his life#and he doesn't have the business anymore bc Mantle is in the past and so is Atlas#so ik it's unlikely bc RWBY doesn't have time for filler but I really wish we could get an arc where Whitley starts to embrace that side of#himself some more#anyhoo enough rambles about magic people it's bedtime#riin rewatches v8

Hi! Your Young Oz Illuminati AU is very intriguing! Query: what did OJQG stand for? Also, do you plan on making more of this AU? I would like to know how their first meeting and pairing happen here in this AU, also Ozpin and the previous Oz's relationship
oh wow i didnt know those posts were still going around haha!! unfortunately i probably wont be making any like. proper content of the au anymore since ive lost interest in rwby as a whole but i might revisit it someday for nostalgia :-)
ojqg stands for nothing LOL its just a random mishmash. i later changed it to sgbi which is roughly equal to 'songbird' but mashing up the names of these 4 characters is incredibly hard so i never got anything better than that
i was going for, if i remember correctly, ironqrow and a bit of ozglyn, maybe even glynda with some of the other girls. im not too sure now
thank you for the ask!! <3

Random RWBY Headcanons Part Maybe 21: ReNora Edition
I fuckin’ love these two their my secret otp and though I don’t know what part it is that can’t stop me
They get married a bit after all the chaos calms down.
Jaune feels a tingle run down his spine the very second they become engaged, he’s the first to know before they announce it.
“Fucking finally” —Weiss upon learning.
Weiss is all up in their business for wedding planning, she loves this so much and is trying to hard to pretend she doesn’t.
Their like a couple going through a divorce while they decide how to divide their friends into each others sides of the altar.
Jaune both walks Nora down and is the best man. He’s multitasking.
Two empty chairs on the front row, a small tribute to Pyrrha and Penny.
Wedding colors are green and pink, no one can find anything that matches in any way shape or form.
Winter catches the bouquet and that causes her four levels of internal panic and another eight of life reevaluation.
They fought over who got custody of Yang and Oscar.
Talking custody, kids just appeared one day. Ren has been thrown into so many objects and Nora got fuckin’ fried I refuse to believe either of them are capable of having children but even if they could they’d adopt anyway.
One or two kids just appear at a family gathering in Patch one day and everyone just accepts it. They learn their names; and immediately those kids are part of the Ozluminati family.
Blake didn’t know true joy until she slapped them both with a “so when you get married, if you take his last name do we all just have to default to Lie?”
Ren keeps Ren as it is and Nora hyphens to Valkyrie-Ren then calls it a day.

One of the things I love so much about canon rewrites is taking characters and backstories and tweaking them, slightly, doing the changes I'm interested in, and then butterfly effect-ing my way forward to the first chapter to understand how those changes have affected characters since they first came into their worlds.
It's so much fun to see how it changes people. To see how you can keep their cores but tweak the fine details, play with the public persona, twirl out different relationship threads from the miasma of change and curiosity you've entwined yourself with.
Having Pyrrha be trained by Caroline Cordovin, a character I am likening to a Greek God, a character who takes heavy inspiration from Achilles' mother (in my world) and who desperately wants to be remembered, to create a legacy, in a hero. To be immortalized in her progeny. To never be forgotten. And then to have her be in charge of Argus, to have her push Pyrrha from the start, to take this detail of Caroline Cordovin being in charge of Argus and making her and Pyrrha linked this closely, I've gotten this very interesting Pyrrha. A Pyrrha that is still, at her core, the same kind and loving and loyal and destiny-believing girl we all adore, but who is deeply traumatized, whose insecurities are marked in blood and isolation, and who is desperately lonely to a degree that isn't explored in canon.
80% the same. 20% different. That's what I'm working with, in terms of numbers. It's not an exact science, but it's a feeling - a vibe.
Jaune wasn't allowed to become a hunter because of the death of his grandfather, a trained hunter, when his father was a child. So he had to do things in secret. Different conflict in the family.
Pyrrha's heavy training and the tweaks to the magic system means she recognizes Jaune doesn't have an awakened aura in the locker room. Different starting motivations.
Ruby and Yang have grown up with a four parent household even if two of those parents are gone. Qrow is just as much their father as Taiyang and they treat him as such. Qrow and Taiyang's dynamics, with each other, with their kids, and with the world as a whole, have been tweaked to suit the changes made to STRQ. And considering how little we have of STRQ?
Oh boy did I have some fun.
Ruby Rose has carried around Summer's emblem since the night she left. She took her emblem off her cape and pulled her weapon from it, handing it to Ruby and putting her weapon on her back. She asked Ruby to hang on to it until she got back.
Now Ruby flicks it into the air to summon Crescent Rose. A weapon that protects them better than Mom ever did. But it's bitterness and love and guilt and grief and loyalty and frustration all tied into one. Ruby wonders if Summer knew she wasn't coming back. Ruby wonders if they were the last person Summer ever spoke to. Ruby wonders if they'll ever live up to the legacy of love and kindness and work that their mother left behind.
And as Ruby learns what Summer was to the Ozluminati, as they learn about Salem and Cinder and the Maidens and the Grimm, that weight is only going to grow. Because Summer was thought to be the one to stop Salem. And she's gone.
How do you live up to that?
And how do you convince yourself it's okay to be angry? It's okay to be bitter? It's okay to hate her for leaving you behind while still loving her? How do you choke back those emotions and find a way to speak through them, to explain how you feel?
You don't. So you get a little more frustrated, a little more grumpy, a little more jaded. But you still believe in hope and love and kindness.
And you still want to save everyone. Everyone. No matter what.
"We're here to make it better. So that's what we'll do, no matter how hard it is or how long it takes."
Little changes. A legacy that weighs much heavier from day one. An emblem that represents something from the moment we first see it - literally and metaphorically.
80% same. 20% change.
Jacques went to prison two years ago. The Schnee family is slowly recovering, but a lifetime of trauma can't be undone in two years. Weiss goes to Beacon not just to breathe, not just to find herself, but also to flee the knowing eyes and snide comments of everyone in Atlas. She is protective of her remaining family, fiercely loyal to her mother and her efforts to fix things. She detests her father. Her father is what most people who know about everything see the first time they see her - or so she feels, anyway.
So she's still prickly. She's still got her hackles up. She's still defensive, and frustrated, and a little too caught up in her side of the problem. But can you blame her? She's been picked at and poked at since she was 15 by a world that didn't want to believe her father is a monster. Will always be a monster.
And she carries that every day. Not just in her traumas, but also in the loss of a lot of her eyesight in that eye. In the way she flinches when some men raise their voices and slam their hands on tables. In the way she starts snarling the moment she gets backed into a corner.
Traits Blake recognizes. Traits that slowly get them both to bond. Because yes, they are from opposite worlds, but look at these scars that are the same. Look at these reactions that are mirrors to one another. Bridging the gap through understanding of pain.
80% same. 20% different.
Yeah. That's the thesis of RWBY rewrite changes. That's the vibe.

I guess we have to add Glynda to the list of 'Useless Ozluminati Members' now... All that time she spent in Vale rather than helping with the 'saving the world' plot amounted to jack squat because Salem offscreen'd the entire place anyway. Now she's relegated to 'finding help.'
Leonardo Lionfraud, Qrow Bumwen, Nonstop L'zpin, James Ironhack, and now Glynda Fraudwitch. 5 for 5 onscreen Ozluminati being completely worthless. Can only wonder what kind of inept failure Theo is to join such a glorious rank of frauds, bums and chronic losers.

ymmv here, but it has long bothered me when the fndm uses having a body double as proof that Raven is a coward... like, the Ozluminati should have assigned body doubles to all Maidens??? With the stakes being what they are, having body doubles seems like a perfectly reasonable security measure to me? I would even take it a step further and have at least one Maiden hiding by cross-dressing as a guy.
honestly the key takeaway imo is not that raven put in the ridiculous amount of effort to set up a convincing decoy (she and vernal had to practice making it look like vernal was doing the magic! during RAIDS!) but that to judge by how the two of them positioned themselves in front of the lamp’s vault, the idea wasn’t “have a decoy to divert attacks away from the real maiden” so much as it was “have a decoy so that the real maiden can ambush possible threats.” hrgdh like raven was very clearly!! bracing to literally stab cinder in the back before cinder started talking. that’s a tactical gambit, not a cowardly one.
and raven also marshaled a huge group of loyal fighters around herself, which again is the strategic thing to do! safety in numbers!
meanwhile team oz had a young, relatively inexperienced maiden roaming around the countryside completely alone except for being tailed at a distance by qrow. which is of a piece with ozpin’s MO (discretion and secrecy at any cost, guardians quietly acting alone) but also suggests, like. zero actual effort to keep the maidens safe. forget a decoy, ozpin’s maidens don’t even get the buddy system!! the sole protection she had was not advertising that she had the magic, which a) didn’t work in the first place because team salem obviously clocked her, and b) would have gone out the window the minute she openly used the power, which she did in very dramatic fashion as soon as she ran into a threat she couldn’t handle.
the maidens are literally the narrative case study in why ozpin’s methods inevitably fail. hrgdhxbfb
i don’t know that i agree that decoys are necessary (this is a world where anyone with aura training has extra sensory perception and can stop bullets—that eliminates the primary defensive use case for a decoy, so if you’re not using a decoy to specifically try to get the drop on your enemies and velociraptor-in-the-bushes them, a la raven, there’s little to gain from having a decoy over a body guard) but the fact that amber EVER got put in a situation where she was fighting for her life 1v3 with her only ally so far away that he couldn’t get there until she’d already been beaten into the ground is… lmao??

Plotbunny Anon Here:
Alyx as the Fall Maiden....
Mwa hahahahaha, you literally read my mind! That was one of the three endings I was contemplating for how the Fall Maiden plot resolved. Maybe we'll see that, maybe we won't.
( I DID consider Pyrrha getting the powers properly, without the machine this time, cause we all can agree that she would be bonkers powerful. But, given the way that her assuming the Mantle was always phrased and presented for her, and what she was expected to give up, there's no way her getting the Fall Maiden powers were ever going to be anything but bittersweet or tragic, given what the Ozluminati would do to her personal life if she accepted.)
(Now, her getting the Spring or Winter Maiden powers if Raven choked on a peanut, or the pool old lady had a heart attack watching the Vytal Festival and saw she won millions because Jaune and Pyrrha made it to the final round and both fore-fitted to go get dinner and Fria had a bet on it.... lol, that remains in the realms of crack musings)
Alyx would be an interesting take on the Fall Maiden, not just because she would absolutely not take anyone's crap and be a wild card with those powers, but also because of her age and lack of combat training meeting with whatever Magic she may or may not have retained from the Ever After to see how she could use them.
Alyx would absolutely be a menace with the Maiden Powers, in a good way of course, but in this AU her desire to be Better and Jaune and Lewis's influence would see her eventually view them as a sword without a hilt more than anything, as opposed as the massive burden or target on your back that some of the other Maidens did, something to be used carefully, but with great enthusiasm when necessary.
(One of the other endings was Amber getting the powers back and waking from her coma)
Oh hell yeah, good for you Anon you hit the nail on the head!
Personally, I think Pyrrha would be happiest if she DIDNT become a Maiden. She’s loved her whole life on a pedestal alienated from her peers. She shouldn’t have to deal with the weight of Maidenhood
Also god dammit if you take Arkos away from me I’m gonna cry. Please just let them be happy, I’m begging you
Fall Maiden Alyx I still think would be really cool, especially since she’d be the Maiden of Choice. It could symbolize her CHOOSING to fix her mistake and be Better
Also she would look rad, but that’s just a perk

Heyyyy Ironwood
Like I sort of guessed that you were who Jacques was arguing with, but still. Hey dude. Growing a beard I see. Makes him look tired, which he probably is now that Ozpin is dead
Little show of power with Jacques standing up in anger and Ironwood calmly mirroring him. Reminding him of who holds the actual power in the room
But also it seems like SUPER sketch that Ironwood has two seats on the council. Isn’t the point of something like that so that the power is ya know DIVIDED among multiple people? So one person doesn’t have more sway than the others?
Like sure Ironwood is on our side, he’s in the former Ozluminati (new name pending now that he’s dead) so he’s probably gonna use the power to help us and not for his own ends. But still, that’s super sketch. As an American who is very recently fed up with SCOTUS, this whole thing rubs me the wrong way

I’m soooo normal about the STR flashback listen-
It’s so short but it reveals so much about Summer, Raven and Tai’s dynamics. Raven is too terrified to face Tai again but still worries for him and Yang, and Summer resents Raven for running away but they still shared a common goal (and paid for it, leaving Summer MIA and Raven paranoid for the rest of her life. She learned the hard way Salem is unkillable). Summer and Tai are friends before they are lovers. I have a feeling that Qrow was also resentful of Raven before this point but Raven went to get him later anyway because he loved Summer, too, and she couldn’t bring herself to face Tai again and especially not like this. All four of them have been in the Ozluminati probably since Beacon. Summer was confident but terrified of what could happen but brushed it aside the entire mission knowing this was most important. I’m so incredibly normal about these four. I’m suspecting Qrow and Tai were out of the loop, Tai most so (thinking it was a regular recon mission until Qrow would have broke the news to him) and Qrow would have found out either when a. he met with Raven and they talked about it and he called her out over how stupid it would be, b. when Raven came back out of the portal on her own to him or c. when he went in there, worried for his sister and his friend, only to find Raven on her own and he could tell exactly what happened right there and then

RE: woman on rwby being smarter then men. look at the original ozluminati, the only one with their shit remotely together (past and present) is glynda. that's why oz had to die and get reincarnated into a party where the dudes are outnumbered like 3 to one.
Oz, my dude. As long as you've been on this planet, it took you THIS long to figure out?
Well, you are a guy I suppose lol.
(I'm mostly joking here, I love Jaune, Oscar, Ren and Qrow but you've gotta admit the girls are fiercely intelligent.)

Ozluminati Incorrect Quotes :3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This has some shipping and some suggestive stuff because, well why not?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Glynda: "Could you guys at least try to see this from my perspective?"
Ozpin: *crouches down*
James: *kneels down*
Qrow: *sits on the floor*
Glynda: "..."
Glynda: "I hate all of you."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
James: *out cold on the ground*
Glynda: "Oh my god, do you think he's okay?!"
Qrow, holding a bucket of ice water: "Who cares?!" *dumps all of the water on James’s face*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Glynda: "How did you even get in here?"
Qrow: "Ozpin's window! Or, as I like to call it, "Qrow's door"!"
Ozpin: "I’m closing the window."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
James: "Hey, check out my Spongebob umbrella!"
*James opens his umbrella while indoors*
Glynda: "James, that’s bad luck…"
James: "Chill out, Glynda!"
Qrow, kicking down the door: "WHO SUMMONED ME?!?!"
James and Glynda: *screams*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Qrow: "The moon looks beautiful, doesn’t it?"
Glynda, looking at Qrow: "Yeah… but do you know what’s more beautiful?"
Qrow and Glynda in unison: "*sighs* James"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Qrow: "I sleep with a gun under my pillow."
Ozpin: "I sleep with a knife."
Glynda: "Both of you are pathetic."
Qrow: "Oh yeah? What do you sleep with?"
Glynda: "James."
(You can swap Qrow's and Glynda’s places in this too :3)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Glynda: "I spy with my little eye something that begins with the letter “s”."
Ozpin: *looks over at James and Qrow*
Ozpin: "Is it “sexual tension”?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Qrow: "I’m the sexiest bitch in this therapy waiting room."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Glynda: "I love you."
James: "I love you too. I've waited so long to hear you say that."
*Glynda and James kiss passionately*
Ozpin, to Qrow: "You owe me 20 dollars."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ozpin: "Qrow, you'll be working with James and Glynda."
Qrow: "Alright! My fantasy threesome!"
Everyone else: *blank stares*
Qrow: "...Of people on a team."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
James, "looking through their clothes: Has anyone seen my top?"
Qrow: "Glynda's in the kitchen."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
James: "That's not funny."
Qrow: "I thought it was funny."
James: "You don't count. You started laughing in the middle of a funeral because you started thinking of a meme you saw on Facebook."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
James: "Why are you on fire?"
Qrow: "This is just how my day is going."
