This is my favorite Jean Grae song of all-time and I have thought of a concept for a music video for it. It would open up with the song starting and a slow motion shot of Jean walking into a medieval town as a bard (complete with a lute and music book with the album cover title on front of it in “Olde English text).” She is hooded and her face is never fully shown during the whole video (only teaser glimpses until the end but then only the bottom half of her face is shown). Then she walks into a tavern and everyone turns to look at her. The previous performing bard is booed off the stage (complete with tomatoes and trash thrown as well) as she walks in and she talks to the barkeep (and he eventually introduces her as the next person to preform). She begins her performance and the camera is first-person and we see the crowds faces and reactions as they go from non-entertained to enjoying her performance. While she is preforming the crowd members are also putting “gold or silver pieces” into her sack she carries her things in and it gets continuously full during the course of her performance. Near the end of her performance she bows after the cheers and picks up her full sack of coins and her things and leaves and right when she hits the door she turns around and flashes a mouth full of gold both top and bottom rows. And the camera freeze frames and that’s the end of the video.

SYNOPSIS
The Isle of Ys is wild and untamed, a place where forgotten gods slumber and hope is sparse. Humankind dwell at its southernmost tip in the town of Erdansten, ruled by fear of the world beyond their walls. The Wolvenkind roam the north, guarding the ancient forest of Deothwicc. All that prevents war between the kinds is the vast landscape that separates them, but with new dangers rising from old secrets, even that may no longer be enough.
Estene, mother of the Deothwicc pack, knows a reckoning is coming. She can also see what few want to believe: if either side wants peace, they must find a way to co-exist. Her youngest child, Grae, despises this notion. He craves revenge for the pain humans have caused him. And he’s willing to do whatever it takes.
As Dannaskeld of Erdansten, Rostfar is supposed to protect her people from magic; as a wyrdsaer, someone who is able to commune with magic, she is the very thing they fear. For years she has kept a delicate balance between her duty and her secret, but her daughter Arketh’s growing magical affinity has tipped the scales. Aethren is a trainee under Rostfar. They have spent their whole life striving to be strong enough to protect the town. But as wolves attack from outside and power struggles threaten the town from within, Aethren starts to wonder if Erdansten is worth it. At least if they walked away, they would no longer have to worry about the strange power growing inside them.
Change is inevitable. And only the humans and wolves can decide if it will end in a better future – or annihilation.

#490: Flip the Switch (New Year’s Special 2022)
Grae understandably had his doubts about the success of this undercover operation. When William had asked for his assistance, he laughed at first; he sincerely thought he was joking. Their target was an external hard drive that belonged to a particularly influential individual who was notorious for digging up the most controversial whisperings in the political and media realms. He also happened to be an active and loud member of the LGBTQ+ community and he was throwing a New Year’s Eve party. It was to be expected that most, if not all, in attendance would also be members of the community.
“I need you to pretend to be my boyfriend,” he said. What a proposal, especially from someone who did not like him much. But William explained that because of this guy’s status, it wouldn’t be wise to show up as straight as he clearly is, swipe the hard drive, and leave; too conspicuous.
But even this plan seemed doomed to fail for two obvious reasons. Grae started with the politest one to point out. “How will anyone not recognize you?”
“I used to do this all the time with Odette pre-A-C. She made a latex patch thing to cover my scars. A dab of make-up and I look like another person,” he said with an unexpected ring of pride. “I would ask Odette, but she’s got her hands full right now. That new bill they’re trying to pass by the end of January has her all in a tizzy.”
“Uh huh,” Grae replied distractedly, twisting one of his studs in his lip. “Okay, but… what about…”
William waited for him to finish his sentence.
Damn it, he was going to make him say it. “No offense, but… you’re the straightest straight person I have ever known in my very long life.”
He nodded in agreement. “Yeah. But, like I said, I used to do this all the time.”
“You used to go undercover as a gay man all the time?” he said in disbelief.
William lifted his glass of whiskey. “There were times when the situation called for it. Like this one.” He took a sip.
           Grae stared skeptically.
He set the glass down. “Trust me. I got this. As long as you can pretend to like me, at least a little, this should be no sweat.”
He lazily blinked. “Are you exploiting my sexuality, boyo?”
“No. I’m exploiting your talent to adapt, affinity for theatre, and knack for acting,” he retorted.
Damn it. That was a good answer. “… So, when’s the party.”
When Grae received the text that he had arrived to pick him up, the Ghost exited his apartment and went down the stairs to the waiting black Corvette and hopped in the passenger’s seat. He looked William up and down, judging his chosen guise for the operation. He was wearing a black scarf, black beanie, and what he assumed to be prescription-less, thick-framed glasses and… well, that was pretty much all that was different.
William must have felt his judgement. “What?”
“You said you had done this before.”
           “What!”
           “You don’t look gay enough.”
“Oh, well, that’s just stereotypical. Gay doesn’t have to have a look, Grae.”
“Shut up. Here.” He stuck his hand in the pocket of his own jeans. “I anticipated this, so I came prepared.” He held up a thin, silver nose ring. “It’s a clip-on.”
William made some indiscernible noise in his throat as he took the jewelry carefully and fumbled to stick it around his nostril. Once it was secured, he looked at Grae. “How does it look.”
“Mm. It doesn’t look like you, but it achieves the goal.”
“That’s good news.” William put the vehicle in drive, and they left the parking lot.
The party location was a mansion. It had been a hot minute since Grae had even stepped foot in a neighborhood this swanky. And to be honest, he felt a bit out of place. But it was all right, because he had accepted there was going to be no real way to prepare for tonight. Soon they would have to flip a switch and become boyfriends. When they parked the car, it dawned on Grae that some preparation was necessary. “Oh, shit. We need a story.”
William took the keys out of the ignition. “Like if someone asks us how we met and stuff?”
“Exactly.”
           “It’s okay, I got it.”
Grae twisted his body to face him. “Would you care to, I don’t know, maybe share some of what you got with me?”
William took a breath and put his hands in his lap. “Sooo, we met at a festival. Beer probably. First date was a, uh… an indie rock band that played at a pub or something—”
“Who was interested first,” Grae interjected.
           He thought briefly. “Me.”
           “Why.”
He thought some more. “Your vigilante spirit.”
“Aw, thanks,” the Ghost batted his eyelashes.
“And we’ve been together for five months. We don’t live together yet, but maybe we’re thinking about it.”
           “Anything else?”
“Nobody will pretend to care that much,” William shook his head.
“Fair enough.” Grae opened his door and walked toward the house, reaching for William’s hand when he caught up.
Inside, the music was already thumping and plenty of people were already drunk and dancing. William led Grae through the crowd straight to the cash bar where he yelled his order of an old fashioned to the bartender before looking at Grae to see what he wanted. He opted to have the same. While William seemed to be in no actual hurry to locate the hard drive, he did seem to be in a hurry to drink as much as possible. That was okay, Grae supposed. As long as the captain didn’t care that the Ghost would drive his Corvette—and Grae would be lying if he said he wasn’t looking forward to that.
Grae wasn’t even a full glass in before they played one of his favorite songs and he had to go dance. When he came back, William handed him a glass with more in it than what he left in it. When the Ghost furrowed his brow in confusion, William confessed. “I—drank yours so I got you another.”
He giggled and took a sip. The night was going well, and quite fun. William involved them both in a shots game with a group of party-goers. People only asked their names (William said his name was Dominic, so Grae decided to go with his birth name, Kian) and complimented Grae’s white hair. William didn’t miss the opportunity to agree and run his fingers through it. It was weird, for sure. But, boyo was right: he was good at this. How did he even fake that sparkle in his eyes? The most unnatural thing Grae could have ever imagined was now in front of him and actually very natural-looking. He didn’t like how easy it was to play along. And while he did enjoy the buzz accumulating in his head from the alcohol, he could do without the butterflies when William put his hand on his thigh or wrapped a hand around his waist.
Later when Grae was dancing again, William intercepted him and stole him from the crowd to the background. He turned him around and ducked a little to caress his jaws and kiss his cheek, where he said loud enough over the music into Grae’s ear. “Look.”
He lifted his eyes over William’s shoulder to the table where the DJ was in front of a computer, the host’s computer. Apparently, the host had chosen the playlist—and left a soft, rectangular zipped pouch near it. Really? Could it be that easy?
William turned him again, pushing him back toward the table with the computer while the DJ accepted a drink from a couple of lock-twirling chicks. He closed his eyes and pressed his lips to Grae’s. The Ghost did the same and his breath hitched when William gripped his hips and pulled them into his. “Grab it,” he said into Grae’s mouth.
Grae autonomously slipped his hand down between them and palmed the front of William’s jeans.
He scoffed out loud and drew his mouth beside Grae’s ear again. “The hard drive, dipstick.”
Fuck. Grae politely removed his hand and slid it behind him on the table. He pulled the pouch toward his butt and deftly deposited it into his back pocket. William chuckled before kissing him more. The Ghost could hear the weathered notes of a wheeze laced in his amusement, indicating it was genuine. And now his stomach was doing that fluttering thing again.
Another hefty drink later (three for William), the countdown to the New Year began. Grae joined the crowd in the unanimous celebration of their entry into another go around the Sun. When the ball dropped and the confetti flew, he was thankfully drunk enough this year to not have the thought of, “Oh God, I’m still here.” And even when it tried to poke its way through his haze, he found William capable of making him forget. Instead, Grae was preoccupied with other thoughts like how he never considered that William’s scars, though hidden tonight, affected the range of his smile and gave him a rather crooked smirk even when he was laughing. He never knew; he’d never seen William smile this much or laugh this hard.
When William stepped outside for fresh air and threw up, Grae figured it was time to leave. Unfortunately, he was too drunk to drive either and would not have the pleasure of piloting the Corvette. So, he called an Uber.
On the ride home, William leaned against him, and playfully tried to bite the studs in the Ghost’s lip. He was talking a lot, but he wasn’t saying much. His “lurds were sworred” and his eyes were glassy. He overpaid the driver and let Grae escort him to the door. William made some comment about being in Grae’s apartment before helping himself to the bedroom and crashing on the unmade bed, where Grae’s cat, Frankie, did not move but did stretch her neck out to sniff their visitor. The Ghost feared he would forget where he put the hard drive were he to remove it from his jeans, so he just left it in his pocket for now and took off William’s shoes, scarf, beanie, and glasses. He didn’t even remember taking off his own shoes and getting in bed, but he must have because this is where he awoke, curled next to William on his bed with Frankie standing on his belly purring.
“Mm,” William moaned when the cat paced on his body next.
“She’s hungry,” Grae croaked into William’s neck, his arm draped over him.
A moment passed and William’s head shifted on the pillow. “Where the fuck are we.”
Grae giggled in his throat without opening his eyes. “My apartment. We left your car ‘cause we were both hammered. We’ll go get it later.” He said the last part in a sigh.
“Oh.” There was a pause. “So, uh… what’s…”
Grae’s eyes snapped open in realization. He flung himself to the other side of the bed and nearly fell off, making Frankie have to dig her claws in to not lose her own balance. “Sorry—” he floundered. “Sorry—um—sorry—coffee.” The Ghost all but stumbled out of the bedroom toward his kitchen, twisting his pants back where they were supposed to sit on his hips. Frankie beat him to the kitchen and circled her empty dish and Grae suddenly did not seem to remember the layout of his kitchen or where anything was in it. He opened two cabinets before finding the cat food and bombarded her dish and the linoleum with an avalanche of it before doing the same search mission for the coffee. By the time he found the filters, he might have regained enough composure to process what he had done. He just got caught up is all. Just forgot to turn the switch back off. No big deal. Right? He winced and performed the walk of shame back to the bedroom where William was sitting Indian style, looking at his phone. “I’m sorry. I think—”
“It’s fine,” William said with a laugh, taking a moment to rub his eye. He cursed into his hand when he dragged it over his face.
Grae wished he could blame his cuddling on still being a little drunk or hungover, but William knew that wasn’t how Ghost bodies worked, so there was no point in lying. “Headache?”
“Yeah. It will go away though.” He sniffled and squinted at his phone before stopping and looking at him. “I didn’t throw up on anything did I?”
Grae shook his head. “No. Just the once at the party and it was outside.” He delved his hand into his back pocket and tossed the pouch on the bed between them.
“Sweet. Thanks.” William picked it up.
Grae jumped up when he heard the coffee maker ding and prepared two mismatched mugs, pouring his own into the one with the stain at the bottom. He brought the other to William who thanked him before taking a gratuitous slurp.
Frankie jumped up on the bed again and elected to rubbing herself against William’s arm. He offered her some scratches around her ears. “So, it went well, I think. And I had fun.”
“Yeah,” Grae agreed. “Me too. It was… it was really nice.” He looked down. “I’m sorry I was… I didn’t mean anything by it, just… last night was…” He chuckled soberly. “I haven’t felt like that in a while.”
William looked up from his phone.
“You were… a lot better at acting than I thought you were.” He smiled painfully. “Good job.”
The captain put his phone down and petted the cat slower.
           Grae grimaced. “Ignore me.”
William took a breath. “So… I take it you’re not seeing anyone then.”
He glanced at him, a pang of irritation present that he thought he was. “No.”
           “… You lookin’?”
           “No?”
           “Why?”
Grae stared at him. “I broke up with Nikki.”
“Yeah. But that was, like, six months ago. If you want to be with someone—”
“I can’t break up with someone because I can’t promise I won’t take my Deed if the opportunity presents itself and then turn around and date someone else.”
William blinked. “Yeah, you can? You… broke up with Nikki because you loved her. I assume.” He scratched the scruff on his jaw. “Nobody says the next person you date you godda be in love with… or want to stay with forever.”
The Ghost looked away, clenching his jaw.
“Look, I would—never pretend to know anything about dating or relationships and I’m sure you have far more experience than I. But can I ask when was the last time you had a boyfriend? Like… maybe it’s time to have a dude again, if that’s how that works?”
Maybe he did desire a male mate, but that wasn’t the point. “That’s not how it works.”
William put his hands up apologetically. “My bad. Well… All I’m saying is it’s a new year. You’re allowed to do whatever you want to do. You don’t… have to punish yourself just because doing the right thing also felt bad. You’re allowed to say that… Nikki was an exception.”
Grae’s eyes drifted. “She was. Is.”
The men went quiet and Frankie’s purrs permeated the silence before William spoke up again. “I never told you that I appreciated you doing that. I mean, I hate that it broke her heart, but… I know it wasn’t easy on you either.”
Saliva accumulated in the Ghost’s mouth and a hot sting went straight up from his teeth, through his cheeks, and into his eyes.
The captain took another sip of his coffee. “Sorry. Not trying to tell you how to live your life or anything just… no need to limit your happiness.”
Grae swallowed the knot in his throat. “Yeah.”
The other stood up from the bed. “I smell like a dead goat. Can I use your shower, please?”
           “Sure.”
“Thanks.” William entered the master bathroom and closed the door.
Grae flopped back on the bed and stared at the ceiling as Frankie’s purrs crescendoed upon her approach to stick her wet nose in his ear. He absently scratched her neck as the water turned on in the bathroom.
He hoped Nikki didn’t limit her happiness.

anyway in other news i literally never ever thought i’d be saying this but, uh,, just over 48 hours ago, i completed my first Official Music Release. and honestly? not to be overly sentimental on main, but i'm kind of losing my mind over here. if you’d asked me 12 months ago, i’d have described myself as many things, but “songwriter” would not have been one of them, so it’s kind of mind-boggling to think that these tiny little tunes that i wrote purely for fun have turned into, well, this.
enough of the mushy stuff, though -- the point is, i’ve heard all your requests, and i have delivered!! constants (virgil’s song) and tale of the mountain (roman’s song) are now available for streaming or download on all major music platforms, including (but not limited to) itunes, spotify, and even tiktok!! for a full list of all the stores you’ll be able to find them in, check the screenshot above, or click read more for a text transcript (+ tags)!!

Nearest and Dearest
Nearest and Dearest by Graendal
It's not that he's never let himself think about it before. Of course the idea of being with Shouto — like being with being with — has crossed his mind before. He's known for a long time that gender isn't really a point of consideration for him when it comes to things like this, and of all people it makes sense to look toward his nearest and dearest friend. His friend who happens to be gentle, considerate, courageous, and determined, and also coincidentally super attractive and skilled. But it's never been so stubbornly at the forefront of his thoughts, to the point of interfering with his ability to interact with his friends.
Besides, Shouto has never brought it up, either, so… And he would definitely say something. Right? When has Shouto ever kept his thoughts to himself with Izuku? Like, never. Basically. Does Shouto even like guys like that? ...Or anyone like that?

Grae I love the new AU idea! What do the others think of Virgil?
Thank you!! I’m very excited about it. Have way more info than you asked for haha:
Roman kind of hates him immediately. He thinks the idea of “needing a bad boy” is stupid. They’re just fine with the three of them.
Logan thinks Roman’s reaction is a bit strong, and doesn’t mind Virgil too much. Besides, Logan thinks Virgil actually has a lot of talent as a singer. He finds the harmonies more appealing, etc.
Patton tries very hard to believe the best about him. Virgil has this hard persona but Patton wants him to know he’s appreciated so he does his best to make sure Virgil feels like not everybody hates him?
It doesn’t help that Virgil comes across as kind of harsh a lot. He keeps his distance from the group. He shows up to recording sessions, dance lessons, etc. But he doesn’t really hang out with them outside of work, y’know? Whereas Roman, Logan, and Patton all hang out together pretty regularly. And even during work, he doesn’t really open up much.
I mean, it’s hard for Virgil, too. Because he was basically told “this group needs a bad boy so we’re bringing you on” so he figures his whole gig with this group hinges on his persona as a “bad boy”. So he plays that up so that he can keep the job because he really freaking needs this
But Virgil starts to wonder, a couple of weeks before a decision is made about their demos, if maybe he’s more of a hindrance to the group than helpful to them. He’s not the strongest dancer (that’s Logan), nor the strongest singer (that’s Roman), nor the best at interviews (that’s Patton). He’s just... kind of there. He feels like he’s just existing tangentially to the group.
So he tries to quit. He leaves his resignation on Remy’s desk and books a flight home.
The other boys go to vocal rehearsal and Roman can’t shake the feeling that it feels... wrong? Without their fourth member?? Not just lacking Virgil’s harmony, but also there’s just.... a wrong balance of energy and dynamic to them. It’s clear during vocals. It’s even more clear during dance rehearsal. And from the shared glances between Patton and Logan too, they feel the same way.
Virgil makes them better.
They go to Remy’s office to ask where Virgil’s been (because he hasn’t been responding to texts, Snaps, or calls) and Remy is out but they see the letter and are like. Oh. Oh no.
Cue the boys rushing to the airport and catching Virgil right before he’d be walking through security and they have a heart-to-heart talk and Virgil eventually agrees to re-join the group.
Virgil also comes to realize that he can be “””the bad boy””” without actually being bad or mean or hard. He learns to let his guard down a little. And they all get to be really, really good friends after that. Slowly, but they do get there.

It’s not that he’s never let himself think about it before. Of course the idea of being with Shouto — like being with being with — has crossed his mind before. He’s known for a long time that gender isn’t really a point of consideration for him when it comes to things like this, and of all people it makes sense to look toward his nearest and dearest friend. His friend who happens to be gentle, considerate, courageous, and determined, and also coincidentally super attractive and skilled. But it’s never been so stubbornly at the forefront of his thoughts, to the point of interfering with his ability to interact with his friends.
Besides, Shouto has never brought it up, either, so… And he would definitely say something. Right? When has Shouto ever kept his thoughts to himself with Izuku? Like, never. Basically. Does Shouto even like guys like that? ...Or anyone like that?
