tbh every time i read someone call UtS a comfort series or a series that feels warm and like home, i'm just... genuinely really happy. i think i'll get into it more whenever i come back and write the poly fic, but i think it makes a lot of sense that i began writing it before my last semester of undergrad while i was feeling a sense of loneliness. UtS is about being found and loved and i think i'd like to explore that a lot more with the poly fic (which most likely won't be for a while--i intend on fully planning it before i start writing). i feel like i'm at this point in my life where i'm at my loneliest and it just makes me very introspective, i guess. yet writing UtS has made me feel like... a lot more at home. it's a temporary fix, sure, but it makes me feel safer and i'm glad i can provide the same feeling to other people.

Okay writers listen up
I'm gonna tell you about how I wrangled my shitbird brain into being a terrifying word-churning engine and have written over 170K words in under a year.
I wanna be clear that before unlocking this Secret Technique I was a victim of my unmedicated ADHD, able to start but never finish, able to ideate but not commit and I truly and firmly believed that I'd never write a novel and such a thing was simply outside of my reach.
Now I write (and read!!) every day. Every. Single. Day. Like some kind of scriptorial One Punch Man.
Step the First
Remove friction between yourself and writing.
I personally figured out how to comfortably write on my phone which meant I didn't have to struggle with the insurmountable task of opening my laptop.
I don't care if this means you write in a Discord server you set up for yourself, but fucking do it. Literally whatever makes you write!
(if you do write somewhere that isn't a word processor PLEASE back your work up regularly!)
Step the Second
Make that shit a habit. Write every day.
For me, I allow myself the grace that ANY progress on writing counts. One sentence? Legal. Five thousand furious hyperfixated words? Also legal.
Every day, make progress. Any progress.
I deleted Twitter from my phone and did my best to replace doomscrolling with writing. If I caught myself idly scrolling I'd close whatever I was looking at and open my draft and write one (1) sentence until I made THAT a habit, too.
Step Two-point-Five
DO NOT REWRITE. If you are creating a first draft, don't back up or restart. Continous forward motion. Second drafts and editors exist. Firsts are for ripping the fucking thing out of your brain.
If you're working on revisions after an editor or beta readers or whoever has given you feedback, then you can rewrite that's OK (and it counts as your writing for the day!)
Step the Third
Now that you've found a comfortable way to write and are doing it every day, don't stop. Keep doing it. Remember, just one sentence is all you need. You can always do more, but if one lousy sentence is all you can manage then you're still successfully writing.
Remember: this is what worked for me. Try things until you find what works for you.
You can do it. I believe in you.

How long is spitfire? As in, how many words?
the original self-published spitfire is 300k words. then there was gonna be a sequel that would probably also be around the same length.
HOWEVER i’m currently working with my editor to split spitfire, so it’ll be two 150-170k word books instead of one 300k word book.
then the “sequel” will also be split into books 3 and 4. over all the story will still end up the same length, but it will hopefully be somewhat less daunting of a read haha once it’s 4 books and not 2

When in doubt about the SAG-AFTRA strike negotiations' state of play, tune in to Variety, the entertainment press grande dame that's been around since 1905.
Something very interesting just caught my eye in this article:

IATSE is an acronym for the International [US and Canada] Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States. They've been around since 1893 and they still represent around 170K people working in the industry. As any Democrat-leaning trade union, they do have a long-standing (and successful) agenda focusing on uniform employment practices across the industry, such as the 40 hour work week. Something they achieved very early on, via the 1941 Fair Labor Standards Act, with Roosevelt's (heh) direct support. Finally, they do have a rather good reputation of tough, but flexible negotiators, as they did manage to avoid last minute a cataclysmic strike in the industry in 2021 (please google it yourself, it would take ages to explain, but that was, IMHO, a smart game right there with AMPTP). And the relationship between IATSE and SAG-AFTRA (including between IATSE's honchos and Fran Drescher) is excellent.
In other words, when a IATSE representative takes the initiative to leak/hint at something, that is immediately published by Variety, you read carefully:

30 Years Old Achievement Unlocked!
Usually, I had a Follow Forever post ready for my birthday, as a thank you for filling my dash and heart with blorbos and fun this year, but today I decided to have a bit more introspective one, looking over the last decade offline and almost same time that I've had on Tumblr. As a reminder for myself and maybe it can give some encouragement to others that are going through the slog of their twenties.
But first, yes, a thank you to people that have deeply shaped this decade, with their presence and sometimes, their absence. I can't ping the person I miss the most, it doesn't reach across the fog that clouds the way beyond the final goodbye, the parting that cannot be spoken, but I can ping the people who helped me stay on this side of the mist, in the aftermath. (In vague alphabetic order.) Thank you for everything, for being there for me through thick and thin, however you're capable, thank you for being you.

I am definitely forgetting someone in these pings and I will blame it on my old age (just 3% of my entire lifespan, though!) and I am sending all the lovely people I talk with, who interact with my posts and so forth, people I follow, so much love (and Irish coffee cream cake).
Now, onto some loving achievements of the decade:
Survived and accepted my neurodivergence, began to start to accomodate for it and seek help for doing so.
Began participating in fandom.
Published over 170k words for various fandoms.
Learned to gif.
Realized I have checked the box 'No' on sexual & romantic attraction and gender starter package slip.
Conceptualized designs for my tattoos.
Dyed and bleached my hair for the first time. Figured out I like it short.
Continued to develop my style and grow more comfortable with my body and appearance.
Got Wolverine arm implants after I broke it badly.
Left my country and saw a band I love live.
Saw my internet friends in person for the first time.
Sailed on a boat and stood on the edge of sea at midnight, crying from happiness.
Finished education and kept job despite health issues.
Started playing DnD and even DMd a little.
Made my friends laugh so often I lost count.
Laughed often myself.
Took so many photos of things I love.
Learned so many cool animal facts.
Heard new favorite songs and continued to love old ones.
Read things that changed something in my very soul.
Wrote something that inspired a fanart and podfic.
And more and more and more. There is always more, more things that you and I can ever predict, more sorrows, yes, but more joys as well. And I think, looking back at 20 year old me, I'd say... It was worth sticking around for.
So, for the next life year and decade I want to say I'll try to:
Continue learning being kinder to myself, accept my limitations and accomodate them.
Write, write, write.
Take so much more photos.
Laugh until I cry more often.
Make people wheeze.
Travel more and especially to the seaside.
There always will be more to do, but I like these goals.

Hello! I just finished the Exile demo and it had me hooked, it was amazing!! But I’m a bit lost because I’m all new to this, the only content available as off now it’s chapter 5 right? Are you moving to another platform or app to continue? And will it be free or do I have to pay to continue the story?

Hello! My answer got a bit convoluted so there's a short one and a more detailed one!
Summarized Answer: Yes, the demo only goes up to Chapter 5 (pt. 1) right now! Chapter 5 (pt. 2), which I'm working on now, will be the last part of the game you can play for free. After that, the game will be ported over to Twine to be finished. There will be an alpha build available on the Patreon that you can pay to play, but that will have a cap on content as well. The full content of Book One will be released for a price, though I'm not yet sure how much it will cost!
Long, convoluted, rambling answer: Chapters 1 - 5 (pt. 1) are all that's available right now, that's correct. As of now I'm working on finishing pt. 2 of Chapter 5, which will likely be another 170k words or so, and after that the public demo will be "done"!
To explain the format of the book briefly, The Exile was originally intended to be one book. However, I'm worried it'll get too big for my limited coding skills to deal with, so for logistic reasons, it has been split up into two books. This means it's one storyline spread across two releases. In those two books, there are roughly four acts, two per book. So, Book One will have Act 1 + Act 2 while Book Two will have Act 3 + Act 4.
The public demo, once finished, will be Act 1. So, you'll be able to play Act 1 for free no matter what, but you'll never be able to play past Act 1 for free.
An alpha build of the game will then be available for my Patreon, though I'm not sure for how much yet. The alpha build will be given much more frequent, though less substantial, updates as opposed to the current model of being updated once per chapter. The alpha build, as of now, is planned to only finish all of Chapter 6. I know what you're thinking, "but Pheo, that's just one extra chapter!"
To that I say: Chapter 6 is such an absolute behemoth of a Chapter that it strikes fear into the hearts of men everywhere. It's big. Real big. I don't want to get into logistics too much since that's a little too far into the future to be planning, but the point is, it'll still be a lot of content you're getting. On top of that, Patreons will be able to vote on what branches are finished first since Chapter 6 has a lot of them, so they'll be able to control what they get to play, so to speak.
Then, once Chapter 6 is done, the game will go into private development, which means no one but me and the alpha readers will get to read past Chapter 6 until the full book is finished. Then, a small but mighty batch of beta readers will be chosen to read The Exile Part One in its entirety, and then the first game will be released. You'll have to pay to play it, though I don't know what the final price with be.

Just as an update for fans of "Come live with me" - I have tentatively decided to pull something of a "Giving Sanctuary" and wrap up the core fic in the next chapter or two at the one month mark of Dream's time with Hob in the village. This will not mark the end of the fic.
From there, my plan is to convert the fic into a series and begin 'Part 2' as separate fic. Part 2 will be a very different format, probably resembling "one chapter per month" covering the high points of the rest of the year of the wager.
Basically, at the current pacing, with over 70k words covering barely more than a week, I was simply daunted by the fact that the rest of the year for Hob and Dream was basically unwritable, it would at best be twice as long as Giving Sanctuary, which at 170k words was absolutely Herculean to write.
I do have many plans for CLWM but writing them out as "day by day" as the fic has been so far is just exhausting to even think about and has been a great contributor to putting the fic on the back burner while I finish other works like GS. I already know what scene I want to close out their first month with. With any luck, it will provide a satisfying conclusion to this chapter of their life together and allow the fic to stand on its own while I gather the strength for the next bit.

Progress 04/08/23
Okay hi! So I think the deadlines really work cause I managed to reach my goal in one week!! Which COULD mean that I can manage some weekly progress updates that are actually substantial. 🫡
This specific scene that I've been writing was... a very different type of scene. It was triggering, so I will advise again to anyone who is planning to read this to really consider the trigger warnings. Since it's also a scene that might happen depending on your choices, I will put warnings at the beginning of each chapter, indicating what will happen and might happen on that chapter.
Either way, that scene is over and we have finished another small path. Just a few more to go to complete this whole Demon path thing! 😈 It's not pretty at all, but I feel like my writing as improved throughout the chapter.

Prospects and Peonies Update
Me: I'm gonna do monthly updates!
Narrator: That was in fact a lie.
SOOO it's been a hot minute and a lot of things have been happening in my personal life, which meant my updates were well. *crickets*
I wasn't too worried about it mainly because I'm not in full development of P&P it's just currently a side project. When it is upgraded to centre stage updates will be more regular.
That's all to say I have been slowly chugging along with P&P
So what is the current stage of the project.
Common route: 90% done - Approx 31.5k
This was 100% done but then I felt like it needed another day for pacing so I wrote that in for the character's route I was working on and will need to flesh out those scenes for the other 3 LIs.
First Route: 50% Done - Approx 17.5K
I was very excited to hit 50% of the first characters route.
Other Routes: Not officially started
I have outlines and scene breakdowns but I don't count any of that towards my total word count.
Current Word Count: 50k - So just under 30% written.
Writing Rambles
How did I decide which character route to write first?
I'm going in alphabetical order, it's easier for me in terms of practicality.
How long do I expect the routes to be?
I'm currently estimating 35k per route but that is subject to change as I draft it. That puts the game at approx 170k
How much branching do I expect the routes to have?
I'm currently sitting around 30% branching on the common route and that's kinda the goal.
What does that mean? That approx 30% of the writing is conditional in each route. Meaning you won't see it on every playthrough of that route.
I'm not sure how much that will translate over into the routes. I should update my spreadsheet and find out. Say tuned.
Anyway, I'm still slowly making progress. I'm hoping to have the first route's draft and complete common route finished during Qtr 2 of this year.
