“And for the tasks we have today…” Allura says, flipping to a page in her sparkly pink planner (a gift from Pidge and Lance via the space mall, that Allura loved to pieces), “we need two people for a supply run, and one person to do that diplomatic mission for the Coalitions newest ally.”

“Do you have anyone in particular in mind?”

“Nope! Up to you.”

“Alright,” Shiro says, “I know Pidge and Hunk have that hyrdroponic system they’re hoping to work on today, so that leaves them out.”

“Coran mentioned he wanted to test his new training sim for any errors before he has us try it,” Allura adds.

“So that leaves you, me, Keith, and Lance available,” Shiro summarizes.

The words aren’t even out of his mouth before Allura’s hand fly to her nose: “Dibs on free time!” she shouts, and Shiro scowls.

“Not fair,” he complains, but Allura just shrugs at him.

“Bulk up the reflexes, beefcake,” she says, and dear Lord he needs to keep Pidge as far away from the princess as possible, apparently.

“Fine,” Shiro concedes with a sigh. “I guess I’ll go on the supply run.” He grins, suddenly remembering something that makes him very happy about this arrangement, actually.

Allura narrows her eyes. “Why are you happy about that. You should not be happy about that. You hate supply runs.”

Shiro rubs his hands together like a cartoon villain, because he feels like one, and it’s great. “I do hate supply runs. But. I was up early this morning, and I happened to see Keith come out of Lance’s room instead of his own, and I am suddenly very grateful for several hours locked in a pod with him, where he cannot leave the conversation and I can be as annoying as possible.”

“Hey, you withheld information! That’s not fair! If I had known there was klance drama I would’ve taken the supply run!”

Shiro smiles smugly at her. “Bulk up on the reconnaissance, beefcake,” he taunts.

Allura rolls her eyes. “It sounds dorky when you say it.”

Unfortunately she is correct, but Shiro left his dignity behind on Earth several years ago, so it truly does not matter.

“Don’t care,” Shiro says serenely. “Anyways, that leaves Lance for the diplomatic mission, which is good. He’s great at those, and he seems to like them. Well, I think he does.”

Allura raises an eyebrow. “You think?”

“I genuinely cannot get a read on him. Every time I give him a solo diplomatic mission, he gets this — pinched expression, almost? But then he gets all excited about making friends, so. I’m not sure how to interpret that one.”

“That is strange,” Allura agrees. “He’s usually pretty straightforward.”

“I know! But he does a really good job on the missions, so I think he’s happy with them? If he asks me to stop then I will, but until then…”

“No, I think he’s fine. He might just be nervous, you know he sometimes doubts himself.”

“Oh, that makes sense. I’ll make sure to remind him that we’re proud of him.”

“Good. We’re done here, then? I have free time to enjoy.”

Shiro sticks his tongue out at her. “Yes, you horrible cheater.”

She smirks back at him, gathering her sparkly planner and several dozen gel pens up before prancing out of the briefing room, wiggling her fingers in a smug little wave, because she is a horrible jerk.

Shiro rolls his eyes fondly, pulling up the files for the diplomatic mission and sending Lance a quick message on the comms, asking him to come down. It’s really only a sort of official welcoming into the Coalition; getting paperwork signed and meeting all necessary government officials, which is why it’s a one-paladin job. And Lance is one of their best in terms of socializing, so he gets sent on these missions often.

“Is that the mission folder?”

The voice comes suddenly, right next to his ear, making Shiro screech and jump so hard he nearly falls out of his chair.

“Jesus Christ, Holy Joseph, and the Mother Mary!” he shouts, pressing a hand on top of his galloping heart. He glares at the perpetrator. “Why do you keep doing that, Lance?!”

“S — sorry,” Lance tries, but he’s laughing to much for Shiro to buy it.

“You are not sorry, you little jackass,” Shiro snaps, but there is very little heat behind it. “You enjoy doing that every time.”

“I would enjoy it less if you had a less funny reaction.”

“My reaction is not that funny.”

“Shiro, you act like an astonished old Catholic lady. It’s funny every time.”

“It’s not that funny! Lots of people yell the lord’s name in vain when they’re startled!”

“Shiro, you’re a Buddhist.”

“Which is why it’s okay for me to do it! It’s not a sin for me!”

“Whatever, you goober,” Lance says. “Tell me about the mission.”

Shiro glares at Lance one last time, just so he knows he is Not Forgiven, before moving on.

“Right. The newest planet to join the Coalition — planet Juyin — needs our official welcoming spiel, and you’re my best bet to get that done. You’re very good at making people at ease.” Shiro makes sure to slip in a compliment, keeping his and Allura’s conversation in mind.

Lance still gets the pinched expression.

“Okay,” he says, and turns his gaze towards the file, biting his lip as he reads it over.

Shiro is familiar with the routine. Lance will read the file carefully, every word, then ask Shiro a million questions about the planet’s cultural norms — “Is eye contact seen as a form of aggression?” “Am I allowed to speak without asking permission, or is that offensive?” “Can I wear my paladin armour or do I need to get fancy clothes?” “Is there a type of greeting I should memorize?” — that are very thoughtful, and that Shiro can never answer.

(They usually end up asking Coran.)

Then Lance will slowly lose his pinched expression as he learns more about the planet’s culture, getting excited about all the people he’s going to meet an inevitably befriend, and then he’s off to complete the mission with ease. (After which he comes home and immediately ducks into his room, because “I’ve been smiling all day, Shiro, I need to do some extra skincare or I’ll get wrinkles. Do you want me to get wrinkles?”)

Lance finishes reading the file, then turns to face Shiro. Shiro braces himself for an onslaught of questions, and readies himself to message Coran —

“Is this your way of quietly kicking me off Voltron?”

— and freezes.

Huh?

“Pardon?”

Lance swallows roughly, eyes trained on his fidgety hands.

“Um, I asked if this is your way of kicking me off the team,” Lance repeats.

Shiro has never felt more like his brain was completely empty, because he has no fucking clue what to say.

“No, I got that,” he says, unsure how to proceed. “I just don’t understand where it’s coming from, buddy.”

“Well, you’re setting me up to fail, right? Giving me missions that I can’t do very well until I inevitably screw up, so then you have a real reason to get rid of me?”

Shiro feels completely lost. What is going on?

“Lance, I don’t understand. Why would I ever want you off my team?”

Lance shrugs. His eyes are still downcast, but to Shiro’s horror, a tear drips down his cheek.

“I dunno. I can’t really offer much, not like everyone else. And I’m frustrating and annoying and I mess up a lot and I’m not very smart and most people only tolerate me because they have to and —”

“Lance, breathe,” Shiro interrupts, scrambling forward to kneel in front of Lance, holding his hands tightly. “In and out, buddy, just like I’m doing. Take a minute. In and out. Just like that. Good, okay? You’re doing great.”

The tears don’t stop when Lance stops hyperventilating; if anything, they drip down faster.

Shiro has no idea how the situation slipped from him so fast.

“Lance, no one is frustrated with you, or annoyed. You’re plenty smart. No one ‘puts up with you’, we hang out with because we like you. Where’s this coming from, kiddo?”

Lance shrugs, sniffling. “You keep sending me on missions I can’t do right. When I fail, you’re not going to say it, obviously, but then you’ll have an excuse to tell me that I can’t be the blue paladin anymore and it’ll be out of your hands.”

Shiro is so confused, and a definitely little panicky. Where on Earth — or in space — is this coming from? How long has Lance been feeling this way?

And, most importantly: how can Shiro fix it?

“Lance,” Shiro says gently, “I send you on these types of missions because you’re very good at them, and because you always look excited about meeting new people. I am absolutely not looking for a reason to get rid of you; and even if I was, I would never be so underhanded about it. I promise. But seriously, hun, where is this coming from?”

Lance’s chin trembles, and more tears stream down his face. He untangles his hands from Shiro’s to press them tightly to his face. “That’s what Iverson did,” he says, muffled. “He would give me simulations that we’re different than everyone else’s and really hard for me, because he knew I’d mess up and then he’d have more of an excuse to kick me out of fighter class. I figured you were doing the same because you only really send me on the solo diplomatic missions, so.”

Shiro feels an intense mix of fury, guilt, and sorrow whirl around in his stomach. Fury because fuck Iverson — Shiro has always hated that man — and everything he’s done to Lance, who most certainly did not deserve it, and especially not as a young, still-learning kid. Guilt because he cannot believe he’s been putting Lance through this — however accidentally — and not noticed. And sorrow because, obviously, Lance is hurting, and he hates it when his kids are hurting.

“I’m not doing what Iverson is doing, Lance,” Shiro promises quietly. “I send you on these missions because I never realized you struggled with them. I thought you liked them.”

Lance peeks through his fingers to glance at Shiro, brown eyes wet and rimmed with red. When he evidently decides that Shiro is telling the truth, he drops his hands from his face, slipping them back under Shiro’s. Shiro takes the hint, squeezing them again.

“I like the part where I get to meet new people,” Lance says. “But it’s hard because I can’t read human social cues very well, let alone alien ones, so I always think I’m going to fuck up and then they’re going to get mad and call off the alliance and then their people will be unprotected and it will be all my fault. And I do fuck up all the time, too. I keep having to make up lies so they don’t know I fucked up. Like, last week I had to tell the S’eetns that plugging your ears when someone is talking to you is a human custom that means you find your conversation partner very intriguing, because they had really screechy voices and I couldn’t handle it and they got mad. I was so scared they wouldn’t believe me because I’m not very good at lying, but they did, but I was still nervous, and —”

Shiro is the king of all dumbasses. Like, seriously. He’s an idiot.

No shit Lance is having a hard time on these missions. God.

“Lance,” Shiro interrupts, “are you autistic?”

“Um, yeah?

“I didn’t know that, kiddo.”

Lance blinks. “Oh. I thought everyone knew.”

“Lance, if I knew, I never — not in a million years — would send you into intentionally stressful situations alone. Never.”

“Oh,” Lance says again, in a much smaller voice. “That makes a lot more sense. I didn’t think you were a jerk, I just thought I was being a screwup and you didn’t know how to tell me.”

“You are not a screwup, Lance McClain,” Shiro says firmly. “You are exceptional. I mean — look at you! You spent God knows how long doing these missions perfectly, even though it was unbelievably hard for you. That’s incredible.”

For the first time since this whole mess came to light, Lance smiles. It’s a small smile, but it’s a start.

“I guess so,” he says. His smile drops. “Does that mean I have to do this mission anyway?”

“Absolutely not, Lance, God,” Shiro says, aghast. “I’m proud of your strength, but I’m not going to make you keep suffering now that I know that you are, okay? God. I’m so sorry, Lance.”

Lance shrugs. “It’s fine. I liked the socializing part, anyway, so it wasn’t all bad. Besides, it’s not like I can never do a diplomatic mission again, or anything. I just maybe need to do it with a partner so they can tell me if I’m being a weirdo; that way I won’t be so scared that I’m going to fuck up all the time.”

“It’s not fine, Lance, and you’re not a weirdo.”

Lance makes a face. “I mean, objectively —”

“No, Lance. Listen to me. Are you listening to me?”

Lance looks at him with wide eyes, shocked by his intensity. He nods.

“You’re not a weirdo. I mean it. You’re just fine the way you are. And it’s not fine that I put you through that; I’m sorry and it won’t happen again.”

“I’m really not angry with you, Shiro. Seriously. I forgive you, or whatever. It was an accident, okay?”

Shiro’s clearly not going to get anything else out of him, so he decides to take what he can get.

“Alright, bud. Okay.” He squeezes Lance’s hands one more time, before moving to get up — Jesus Christ, that’s hell on his knees, he should have thought that one through and sat down, or something; but whatever, Lance is feeling better, so it’s worth it — and sit back down on his chair.

“Okay. Well, now that we’re on the same page, what do you think, Lance? Where should we go from here?”

As much as Shiro just wants to wrap Lance up in a million blankets and keep him away from anything that will every hurt him again, he realizes that that’s a guilty overreaction, and likely not what Lance needs. The best thing he can do for Lance, right now, is be as clear as possible so he doesn’t make mistakes like this in the future.

“Well, you were right on one part, like I mentioned,” Lance says, after thinking for a moment. “I like the social part. It’s fun. And so long as I’m not actively doing something wrong, I like the diplomacy stuff, too. But I’m always nervous because I feel like I’m going to say something wrong, or I’ll miss something and do something wrong. So that part kind of ruins the enjoyment part.”

“Okay — so what do you think will make that easier?”

“Maybe if I didn’t have to go alone?” Lance suggests. “Like, I have no problems when we do diplomacy missions as a team. I know we can’t afford to send everyone on these smaller missions, but maybe if I had a partner, it wouldn’t be so stressful?”

“That sounds great,” Shiro encourages. “We can do that. What else makes these missions hard?”

“Um, as much as I have fun, they’re kind of draining?”

Shiro hums. “I see. Is that why you always disappear into your room afterwards?”

“Yeah. It’s a lot of sound and light and stuff like that, so it’s nice to just quiet down after. And, some cultures are less direct than others, so I have a harder time trying to figure out the etiquette and what they’re trying to tell me, which is really draining. So sometimes I’m really exhausted after.”

“That makes sense. Hey, Lance —” Shiro gently bumps their shoulders together — “this is all easily doable, okay? This is not a problem in any way. We can make this happen. We want to make this happen, make this less stressful for you, okay?”

Lance takes a deep breath, shoulders slumping as he exhales. Most of the stress on his face fades, and he shoots Shiro a small, relieved smile.

“Okay,” he says. “Thank you.”

“Anytime, kiddo. I mean it. I want you to come to me if you’re struggling — we’re a team. I want to help you, not find an excuse to get angry with you. We’ll fix things together, but I can only do that if you come to me. Promise you’ll do your best?”

“I promise.”

“Good. Do you still want to do that mission today? I’ll go with you; Allura can go on the supply run with Keith; she’ll be happy about that.”

Lance brightens. “Yeah! Coran was telling me about the Juyins, they sound so cool! They have laser eyes. I can’t wait to meet them!”

Lance gets up, gathering the forgotten file and tucking it under his arm. Shiro follows him as he makes his way out of the briefing room, chattering all the while about all the awesome things the Juyins can do, and how much fun he and Shiro are going to have on the planet.

It’s very endearing. Shiro is very relieved he got the chance to sort this out with Lance, even if it was a difficult conversation to have, and also very pleased with how things turned out: it makes more sense to have a pair go on diplomatic missions, anyway. This decision was one he should have made months ago.

“Oh, by the way,” Lance says, stopping in his tracks. “Why did you say Allura would be excited to go on the supply run with Keith? She hates supply runs.”

If Shiro didn’t know Lance, he’d assume it was simply an innocent, offhandedly curious question.

But he does know Lance, even better now than before. And he can see exactly what that question is really asking.

“Don’t worry, Loverboy,” he says drily. “She’s not fighting you for Keith, promise.”

“That’s not why I was asking,” Lance says hotly, lying like a liar.

Shiro raises a teasing eyebrow.

“I’m serious,” he insists, but his red face gives him away.

“Okay, okay,” Shiro says, pretending to surrender. He waits a moment for Lance’s blush to fade, then strikes:

“She’s excited because she heard Keith came out of your room this morning, and is very interested to interrogate him and find out why.”

As expected, the flush explodes back on Lance’s face, and he immediately starts sputtering.

“That’s not — it’s not what it — how did she know —”

“Maybe I should send Keith with you instead of me, huh?” Shiro teases, and Lance yells.

“No! Fuck off! It’s not — you suck!” he shouts, decking Shiro in the arm.

Shiro laughs. “Oh, buddy,” he says, slinging an arm around Lance’s shoulder. “I thought I was going to get to bother Keith today, but this is so much better. You are going to be stuck in a lion with me for several hours. I cannot wait.”

Lance scowls, but doesn’t try to shove Shiro off, which tells Shiro all he needs to know. “I changed my mind. I don’t want your help anymore, I can do this alone. Ugh.”

Shiro presses a kiss to Lance’s head, ruffling his hair.

“Not a chance, kiddo,” he says over Lance’s grumbles, “not a chance.”

I normally don't say this about characters I love but I rly hope matt gives cassandra a love interest before the end of the campaign

#ignore me #maddie liveblogs critical role #in a talks machina ep taliesin mentioned how the de rolo family rarely shows affection and all #and I think cassandra deserves that!!#percalia is slowly starting to grow on me bc it shows how good she is for him etc #he's had a Stressful life tbh and she's a nice break from his ever-present angst #but poor cassandra is barely an adult and she's been shoved from trauma to being the main head of her home w/o much company #and her terrible brother avoids her all the time!!! she needs someone to help her out and ease her stress #just. she deserves someone that reminds her of happiness #I love cassandra as a character and I'm so sad she's rarely mentioned bc she never has anything to add so she's always forgotten #like. kima/allura and gilmore are given so much more attention than her. and she's a main character's sibling!#I'm not saying that giving her a love interest would change that #but at this point she's become so bland and barely 2D she rly needs something for herself #giving her a love interest would at least allow her to open up more and ease her stressload and let her be the teen she never got to be!#and I know this is asking much but maybe even percy drama?? force him to talk to his sister he abandoned and avoids.#make them talk about love and family! things percy hates talking about but now has- but cass never had the opportunity!#make him the protective older brother and she the stubborn teen and let them be silly about it #I've been reading too many fics that give cass so much more character than she has in canon and it makes me sad #cmon I have 20 eps left don't disappoint me mercer

Wow, you probably want a one-word answer, but I'm gonna give you a paragraph (or maybe 7).

I feel like Lance would be laughing hysterically and nope out of the situation. Keith would probably scream or punch a wall first or at least have a lil broody moment to panic, but yeah after that he'd try to get out of it. Though, is this before or after the lion switches? Are we assuming that this is an au and the lions never happened? Because after the lion switch, Keith could probably be moved to the same category as Lance. But if it's before the lion switch, Lance would be moved to the same one as Keith/Hunk.

Though, yeah, Lance doesn't have enough self-value to believe that he's the chosen one. I think Keith would say no in a more, 'I don't care about your freaking prophecy, let me be broody and emo in peace.' They're both super insecure.

The one with Shiro made me laugh. It is SO spot on. Poor old man just wants a break. I think if this is after the lion switch/Kuron, then maybe Keith would be the one to jump in and be like, 'Nuh uh, stay away from my brother, if he dies again I am gonna be SO PISSED.'

Pidge... yeah. No explanation needed. There's a reason I'm emotionally attached to her/him/them. This angelic demon child must be protected.

Hunk! Poor Hunk. No, leave him out of this, I can see him giving them the biggest, saddest puppy eyes while he says that. He doesn't want to be the chosen one, I feel like the entire team would jump in and try to prevent that. But because he's a perfect angel, he would accept it to help him team and STOP IT THIS MAKING ME SAD.

Sorry bout that. Let's not talk about Hunk anymore.

Allura would see this as an obligation that she has, as a princess and as the (sort of) head of the Voltron coalition. She means those words completely, and will not let anyone down no matter what because this poor bean has too much pressure on her. The whole show was made to portray her as a serious, regal leader. However, she clearly has a dorky side, and her whole role/character would be so much deeper and engaging if this were a bigger part of her personality. 'I will not let you down, and I will be completely serious about it, and you will see the transition from when I was that fun older sister who you can confide in, to the scarred older sister who has seen far too much for one lifetime.'

Can we add Coran in? Because he would be in the same category as Allura, but he would whip out a cape from somewhere and be like, 'Yes! I knew this day would come! I will not let you down!' while twirling his mustache. (Holy crap I just heard his voice in my head crystal clear saying those words. His accent makes it sound so cute!) Coran Coran the Gorgeous Man saves the day! (And he would fulfill the prophecy perfectly, and there would be a giant parade with Coran-balloons and aliens swooning anytime he winks in their direction.)

So, yes. I agree with you.

I just found out about your story kill me, Cupid and was curious is sans irresponsible act of putting his wants before his kingdom needs going to bite him? Also I kinda want to see Allura get a tutor who KNOWS when a princess should be trained to be a queen and bitch at how hard it is only to get the response “I gave this training and lessons to your sister, she was far younger then why are you struggling so much?” Or have her attempt something only to make matters end up worse off.

Here's the preview of "Dragon Heart" that I said I would post. This is the only part of the Voltron crew I have written so far. I hope I have every one written correctly as how they are.

“How is a person the Heart of Voltron?!” Pidge, the shortest and youngest in the room, asked the Princess of Altea, Allura.

Allura looked at them and she held a positive expression compared to earlier expressing her sorrow for the family and civilization she just found out is dead. But of course she couldn’t let herself mourn just yet, there are things in the way currently that won’t allow her to do that. Assigning everyone's roles in the team they must form to perform their duties to protect but she was missing one person. Voltron needs five paladins and a Dracaneon of a specific lineage, specifically born with the ability to fulfill the duty for Voltron.

“Our last Dragon Heart is from Planet Dracaena a species that are known for their magic and dragons-” Before she could finish she was interrupted by the big one named Hunk choking on some food that her advisor just advised her to eat after their ten thousand deca- phoebe sleep. Allura looked at him worryingly as the same brunette that attempted to flirt with her patted his friend in the back. “Is he okay?” She asked worriedly to Shiro who only shared the same worried look.

“Sorry! But Dragon?!” Hunk blurted out his coughing fit had passed. “Yeah, aren’t dragons a fake animal or something?” Lance’s question followed up.

“Mythical creature.” Pidge corrected which earned a “Same Thing!” from Lance. Perhaps it was but to Pidge they had the better word for it.

Allura understood the creature was foreign to humans but she didn’t know they would be known as fairy tales in their home planet. As far as she’s aware the only dragons in the universe are from Dracaena. “Dracaena is where Dragons are born and raised alongside their riders. It’s extremely common for most Dracaenas to be bonded with a dragon or dragon’s.” Coran her advisor decided to explain for her.

“What about a dragon with no rider?” Keith suddenly asked silent and mostly away from everyone else since they’ve arrived here. Coran pointed his chin out, smoothing his mustache between his index finger and thumb. “Well, that would be considered a dragon free to bond or a wild. Does that answer your question?” Keith just nodded in understanding.

Allura clapped her hands together activating her computer. “We now need to find the new Dragon Heart. Thanks to the help of the previous heart, we'll easily find her. The hard part is convincing her here.” She explained the show of the universe map right in front of them moving it till it stopped on Dracaena. “It’s obvious with Zarkon’s tyranny things have changed a lot, not for the better. Dracaena must be far from the old Dracaena we knew.”

Then a beautiful woman popped up on the screen gaining everyone's attention to who the new Dragon Heart will be. And like Allura said it was easy. “This is the current Empress Khuzaimah of Dracaena '' The princess announced her name.

Keith’s eyes widened at the picture that appeared before them. She looked recognizable to his older sister, the same pale complexion, the same white and shiny locks of hair that was held in a hairstyle that made her look elegant like a real royal that she was supposed to look like. But, it didn’t ‘look’ like his sister. Though everything else was different, what seemed to help him identify her was her expression.

“She's pretty.” Lance whistled, Keith was quick to glare and give him a not-so-soft kick to the leg. “What, Dropout!” Lance glared back at him. They both stopped seeing the warning glare from Shiro.

Keith only let out a scoff and looked back at the hologram picture of the woman. “Keith, you’ll go to Dracaena to bring the Empress here.” Allura said. Lance looked at him skeptical as if doubting he could convince one person, how would he convince an Empress of a nation of dragons. “You? Convince that hottie?” Keith looked at him annoyed. “I can convince her!” Allura had tasked Lance and Hunk to get the Yellow lion and for Shiro and Pidge to get the green lion. Since the red lion is nowhere to be found he’s the only one free to do this. But as much as Lance annoyed him he had a right to be skeptical about him. He’s not good with people, always keeping his walls up to keep them out.

“Uh, Princess, how do I get there? She’s an Empress, so it must be hard to get to her.” Keith asked the princess, he watched as her eyebrows furrowed a bit. “Unlike the two planets, the green and yellow lions residing in Dracaena were the most dangerous out of them. And the princess wasn’t sure how they would treat Keith once he arrived there and she wasn't sure after ten thousand years if they would treat him with aggression or turn him away. Allura was gambling one of her paladins-to-be for the Dragon Heart.

Princess Allura nodded at Coran. “Please show them the Capital.” He nodded a hologram of the Giant palace. “It’s huge!” Hunk commented. Pidge glasses shined as she pushed it up the bridge of her nose. “It’s bigger than the one we are in now.” They commented in Amazement. Coran made a face at them, he looked proud earlier when they were amazed by the castle but perhaps they found something more amazing. He looked deflated now. “The Dracaena Empire is much older than Altea. This is the last dated picture of the capital where the Emperor and Empress reside, it is heavily guarded with guards for both combat and magic users including their Dragon Riders. I am unsure if it’s guarded with Galran too.”

Shiro looked at Keith worryingly, if it is true then it would be unsafe for him to go. Especially if there’s Galra, if he is caught who knows what they’ll do. “Princess, if it is dangerous send me to go-” Shiro volunteered but Keith quickly declined. “You just got out of their hands, you can’t risk going back just for me!” He objected. Even for that reason Shiro wasn't stressed enough about letting his brother-figure out to face that.

And Keith understood the fears his brother may be facing now, it’s been obvious their whole trip here. “I’ll be fine.”

About Sylvio:

Sylvio is a smaller version of Lance, mocha brown skin since both Lance and Luis have dark brown skin so Sylvio ended up taking after Lance in both skin and Hair color. He has blue scale marks and ocean blue eyes like his papa (Lance) and when he turned 9, he was presented as an Omega with a loving two parents (Keith is who he accepts as his father). He has a height of 4'8 and he's Lance's oldest child. In the story before the Epilogue, he is 5 years old. Because of his Heritage he is half Human and Half Altean and Galran, the Galra DNA in him is because of Lance's blood from Yjok's misdeed towards Melenor when Lance's was still a baby in Melenor's stomach.

About Nadia

Nadia is Sylvio's 5 month younger sister, she got Luis's brown hair and light brown skin but Lance's blue eyes, she has pale pink scale marks like her Aunt Allura and Grandmother Melenor. When she also turned 9 she was presented as an Alpha with her two loving parents (Keith is who she accepts as her father). She has a height of 4'5 and she's Lance's oldest daughter. In the story before the Epilogue, she is 5 years old like her brother Sylvio. Because of her Heritage, like Sylvio, she has 3 species of DNA in her but has Altean marks and doesn't show any form of Galra features. She has Human ears like her birth father Luis and brother Sylvio.

About Mela

Mela is Lance's youngest daughter and the middle child with Nadia, she has Keith's hair but a mix of veridian red scale marks that are a bit dark because of Lance's blue scale marks. She has a mix of her parent's eyes and Lance's skin tone but it's lighter because of Keith's pale nature. Mela also has a mix of 3 species however, her DNA has more Galra in it because of both Keith and Lance possessing Galra blood but in the end she looked remarkably like an Altean but her parents are still looking for Galra features that she may possess. Because of a time issue in Space, she became Lance's youngest child and her younger brother Cole became the middle child so at the time in the story before the Epilogue, she was almost a year old before Cole was born but because of the three year time issue, Cole is three years older than her. She presents as an Omega but acts like an Alpha when she's older, she inherited Keith's hardheaded personality.

About Cole.

Cole was originally Lance's youngest but became the Middle child after the time Issue, in the story he is three years old but shows issues with his vocals making him a possible mute however there are times that he does speak but expresses that he feels most comfortable with Sign language that Lance taught him. He is half Altean and Galran because of his parents but he hates Lotor once he learns the truth and considers and will only accept Keith as his father. Because Keith is also Galra, getting used to his Galra features is something both he and Keith bond over. In the story before the Epilogue, he refused to leave Lance's side because of the upstart Luis started and he was shown to be timid shy boy. He looks Altean with white hair, blue pupils but yellow sclera, and seafoam green Altean marks. His skin is light brown and the only showing aspect of his Galra features are his yellow sclera with his blue eyes. He presents as an Alpha and once he's older he is already close to 5'7.

Have some headcanons for this very specific AU that absolutely no one asked for:

All of their names are nicknames that they go by, none of these ladies use their actual names

Keith's name is Akira Kogane, but she started to be called Keith as a joke from the other firefighters in her dad's department, but it kinda just stuck and she secretly liked having a special nickname from the firefighters anyway, even if it was a traditionally male name

Shiro's name is Tatsuo Shirogane, but she and her family are originally from Japan and during kindergarten in America her classmates began to call her Shiro since her name was hard for them to pronounce

Lance's name is Alejandra McClain, but got her nickname from her family when she was younger and always wanted to play soldier or guard. Veronica was the first one to use it and then everyone else started using it, too, and Lance absolutely loved it

Hunk's name is Halia Garrett, and her nickname came from, well, almost everyone. She's always been curvy, but the added on muscles she has gave her her nickname in late middle school

Keith and Lance are adoptive sisters in this AU, where Keith joined the McClain family at 16 after being in foster care since she was 8. Originally, she was there temporarily, but the McClain's adopted her a few months after she'd been in their care

Their one-sided rivalry started in middle school but only got worse after Keith moved in, but settled down after she was adopted and the two actually became friends, but in a I'm-not-going-to-acknowledge-that-I-care-about-you-outloud-but-will-always-protect-you kinda way

Lance teeses Keith about her crush on Shiro, and Keith teeses Lance about her crush on Hunk, and this almost always ends with the closest inanimate object being hurled at each other

Pidge is also cis swapped in this and he and Coran are the only two men on the Castleship and Lord help them, they are terrified

Keith and Acxa are twins, with Acxa being older by about seven minutes. Keith never knew she had a sister, let alone a twin, until she was stranded on a space whale with her long lost mother

Thace and Ulaz are mates, and Regris is their kid. Regris is about five years older than Keith and Acxa, and is their only cousin, as Thace is Krolia's little brother

Kolivan and Antok are in a queer platonic relationship, as Antok is aroace and Kolivan is pan and polyamorus. Kolivan and Krolia end up together and very much in love, eventually getting married

Speaking of, Keith is a lesbian, Shiro is a lesbian, Lance is bi, and Hunk is pan

Hunk as always been a phenomenal baker, as baking is a science, but cooking was something she had to grow into as it's more of an art. With time, practice, and a lot of encouragement from her moms, she became a master chef by the time she was fourteen

The shell on Lance's bracelet was the last shell she grabbed from the beach before her family left Cuba when she was fourteen and moved to the United States for her father's work. She wears that bracelet all of the time, feeling a sense of peace whenever she touches the shell when she's anxious or depressed

Shiro has an older sister named Mayumi, and the two are very close. Their whole family is close, actually, and their parents support both girls when Mayumi comes out as trans and Shiro comes out as a lesbian

Hunk and Lance have been best friends since their freshman year of high school. The two get into a lot of mischief together thanks to Lance, but almost always avoid actually getting into trouble thanks to Hunk

Pidge joined their group when they entered the Garrison and his first thought was "These girls are gonna get me into so much trouble." His second thought was "Lance is crushing so hard, how does Hunk not know??"

Allura absolutely loves to have Girls Nights with the Paladins, where they all get together in her room and have a giant sleepover, complete with blanket forts, unhealthy snacks, teasing, and so much nail painting that Keith is pretty sure she's gotten high on more than one occasion

While Allura is fascinated by Keith and Lance's sisterly relationship, Shiro and Hunk are simply Tired Of The Bickering

Keith is 18; Shiro is 21; Lance is 17; Hunk is 17; Pidge is 16

Shiro and Keith have been best friends since Keith stole Shiro's car and the older bailed her out of Juvie. They got very close while at the Garrison, and Shiro gave Keith her dogtags before leaving for Kerberos. She carries them with her at the bottom of the bags on her hip. There was an unspoken understanding between them that they loved each other, that they wanted to always be together and they cared about each other more than anything, but the time was never right

Shiro and Keith finally start dating while in space after realizing that love doesn't wait for the right time and there's no time like the preasent to let yourself be happy, but Hunk and Lance don't start dating until they get home to Earth because they are, somehow, more awkward about their feelings than Shiro and Keith

Eventually Krolia and Kolivan have a son together and name him Yorak and Keith absolutely adores her baby brother and Shiro absolutely adores seeing Keith with a baby

Hiiii! This takes place after the war, Lance has previously dated Allura, but now he's siiiiiiingllllle. And forget canon, I don't give a crap, LANCE IS TALLER.

"Who's that?"

Lance's twin sister, Rachel is leaning over Lance's back to peer at his phone.

Lance hastily presses his device in to his chest. "N-no one! Just my friend. He was the black paladin when we were part of Voltron." His face turns a flaming shade of red. As much as he loves his family, there are certain aspects of his life that he prefers to keep separate.

That is clearly not happening, though.

Rachel scoffs. "Really? There is no way you managed to befriend a catch like that. And even if you did, I don't know why you brought the princess home when you could have gone for that instead. And don't even start on his sexuality. That guy is so totally gay."

Lance watches as Rachel inspects her nails. He can't be mad at how insensitive she's being, it's just how she is. Over the years, her bluntness has gotten him out of many sour relationships, and been his voice of reason.

However, he would appreciate her leaving him alone right about now.

"Roni! Get over here and look at Lance's made-up crush."

The whole family moves to huddle around Lance now.

"Oh, what, so you've all changed your names now?"

That earns Lance a smack from his mother. He reluctantly shows his phone to the group, rubbing at his stinging shoulder. Word of advice: Do NOT sass Mama McClain.

They all start teasing Lance after looking at the picture. Why is it so hard to believe that Keith is his friend?

Lance voices his thoughts, and watches with horror as a devilish grin spreads across his brother, Marco's face.

"Why don't you bring him home to meet us then? Completely platonically, of course."

And that's how Keith ends up standing on Lance's front porch with a bouquet of flowers and a chocolate box in hand.

Keith enters awkwardly, and thrusts the gifts at Lance's mother.

Afraid? Keith? Never.

Ok, maybe a little. But come on, moms can be terrifying when the want to.

Keith is already horribly awkward socially, and it's not helping that the McClains are all staring at him in shock.

Lance shakes his head and shoots a smile in Keith's direction.

"Come on, bud. Lets go outside. We can watch the sunset, for old times sake, yeah?"

Keith relaxes his stiff posture a bit. "Oh, good. I was worried you would forget that bonding moment too."

They stroll outside bickering like a married couple.

Once Lance's family gets over the shock, they unanimously agree: They MUST set Keith up with Lance. And it can't be too hard, they already act like they're partners anyway.

After about an hour, they boys come back into the house to find Mama McClain cooking dinner.

Keith rushes into the kitchen

"Agh, sorry, I forgot the time. Would you like any help? If not, it's totally fine, I don't know how to make your dishes anyway, and I should probably just go, sorry, ugh, sorry, I'm bad at this."

The older woman just laughs and pats his cheek. "Don't apologize so much, Mijo. I would love your help, and I insist you call me Mama."

Keith blushes slightly and gets busy.

An hour later, they serve dinner to the hungry family. There's the traditional family dishes, but also a few that the McClains have never tasted.

"Keith shared some of his own recipes with me. Sweet boy."

It's clear that Mama McClain loves him. She treats him like a son, which is enough for the rest of the family.

After that night, the family is begging Lance to date him.

When Keith visited her that night, Allura was ready. She had cleared some of the boxes and she had made dinner. She was sitting on her kitchen table with a book and a glass of wine when Keith let himself in and, as usual, yelled: "Who are you?"

Allura calmly put her book down and smiled at Keith.

"Hi, can I help you?"

"This is not your house. Leave," he demanded, like clockwork.

"Oh, no, you're right, I'm a guest of Mrs. McClain," she said and hoped that this charade would work because Allura knew nothing about Mrs. McClain.

"Oh," Keith seemed taken aback, "where is she?"

"She had to go run some errands," she answered, and when he looked like he was going to bolt, she added, "but she left dinner ready. A new recipe she wanted to try."

"Not hungry," Keith replied and began to look around with a frown on his face, "where's Lance?"

Allura had no idea who Lance was, but she winged it anyway, "He's with Mrs. McClain. Maybe they'll be back soon."

"And Veronica? And Rachel? And Luis?"

"You seem to know them very well," Allura commented and sidestepped the question.

"Of course I do!" Keith replied with an indignant huff, "I'm always with them when pa's working."

"Oh, really? Can you tell me a bit about them? I'm new in town, and that's why Mrs. McClain invited me over."

"Lance is my best friend. Rachel is his sister, and they look similar but she's a girl, y'know? Veronica is older than them and is already in high school! Luis is also in high school. He wants to go to college when he finishes.

"Mama McClain makes the best food in the whole world, so pa and I almost always eat dinner here. And Mr. McClain has a very cool motorcycle that he's fixing in the garage, and if we're good, he lets Lance and me help."

Allura's eyes unwittingly filled with tears as Keith told her all about the McClains who, for all intents and purposes, seemed to be like a second family to Keith. She tried to blink them away; it would do no good to break character now.

"Do you know my pa?" Keith asked.

"I've heard of him, I think," Allura said and tried to clear the knot lodged in her throat, "he is a firefighter, right?"

"Yes! He works very hard saving people every day! I want to be just like him when I grow up," Keith answered.

"That sounds nice," Allura managed to choke out.

"Are you ok?"

Allura waved her hand in a dismissive gesture, "Just allergies."

"Huh."

"Tell me, Keith, when was the last time you saw your pa?" she asked with some trepidation. The lights on top of them flickered.

"I... I don't..." Keith began, before doubling over, seemingly in pain, and screaming. The light bulb atop her head blew up, and Allura screamed too, hitting the ground.

When she got her bearings back, Keith was gone.

Ok so I got this weird headcanon and I would like to share.

Shiro and Matt grew up as friends and so Pidge and Keith grew up kinda in the loop. As they grew older, they become a chaotic duo. Remember when Keith stole Shiro's car? Pidge convinced him to do it again and was riding with him and fully planned to get McDonald's with him. As the younger one, Pidge grew up with Keith as something of an extra older brother to her. Keith saw her as his little sister. Shiro always brought Keith when visiting Matt because Keith doesn't feel comfortable with many people other than him so he wanted their relationship to flourish.

When Shiro and Matt disappeared, Pidge had originally wanted to recruit Keith in her mission to find their brothers only to find that Keith had closed himself off. She was disappointed but understood that she couldn't force him to help and that Shiro was the closest thing Keith had to a family. Pidge couldn't replace him in a million years just like how Keith couldn't replace Matt.

When Pidge found Keith and Shiro, she was ecstatic and hoped for them to go back to normal. Odviously, that didn't happen right away. Keith needed time to readjust but they soon became a chaotic duo again. The rest of the team doesn't really understand the bond and thinks of it like Keith being the gay friend.

Allura, Pidge, and Keith all bond over having missing/dead dads and Allura slowly becomes the second voice of reason. Shiro, of course is the first. Matt comes back and Keith cries. He hasn't seen Pidge that happy in a while and Matt hugs him. It's an all around happy feeling and everyone in the vicinity feels like they're too unpure to be allowed to even see this scene.

Lance finally realizes that Keith and Shiro are brothers and Matt dishes out stories of the good old days when Shiro, Pidge, and Keith can't hear. The rest of the team love to learn about Keith, Pidge, and Shiro. The whole team grows closer and it's good vibes all around. Keith's personality slowly gets revealed with more and more time on the ship. Pidge loves to see this and enjoys seeing Keith happy.

Pidge is super interested in Keith's love life because she's never seen him with a boyfriend and she wants that for him. She slowly catches on to Keith and Lance being a possible thing and tries to push it in the right direction. Nothing bad like locking them in a room together or anything. She wants Keith to be comfortable. Just small things like asking Lance what he likes about Keith or getting Keith to talk about Lance.

I'm out of ideas for now but this was fun. Idk what else to say. I'm tired. I hope you enjoyed.

Let's Rewind! Toast watches Voltron: Defender of The Universe (1984)

Season 1, Episode 2: Escape to Another Planet

As much as the intro is cool, I like the GoLion one better because the song slaps

Nobody sounds distressed while crashing sodivns

Line change from last episode as they call the castle of lions the royal castle, so I guess they don't know that's where voltron is? I'm trying not to give the writing too much credit because it's an episodic show more than a story based on

At least the GG believes in the team's survival,,, which isn't much anyway

Pidge is just the absolute cutest, kind of wonder why he didn't do this during his fall last episode, but he wasn't prepared for that one I guess

"Your face is disGUSTing!" -Pidge [Hunk proceeds to spit sand onto Pidge's face] True friendship, insulting one and grossing out the other

"Leave me alone, I'll get up when I want!" -Lance Trying to cover for your ass being up in the air like hunk's was after the fall isn't working my guy

"What's next?" "How about food?" "How about we look for that CASTLE" There's the Pidge sass I was hoping for, get em pipsqueak

I've ribbed Lance a lot for being sassy and almost uncaring sometimes, but that really isn't the case for him, he really does care about the Arusians and puts himself on the line for people who are too afraid to fight back What a sweet guy, no wonder my clone likes him so much

Keith hates fog, good to know

Woop animation error, Keith's tracksuit is half blue and half red when it's supposed to be all blue because of the fog the team is in everyone else's clothing is blue too

Hunk has canonically wrestled a lion cub, I wonder if this means he's worked with exotic animals before!

Oh I never realized there was a moat around the castle, that's probably where blue lion launches, but I like the idea of blue just chilling in a lake instead

The mice are so cute, very expressive too Pidge with his jumping skills again somehow bounces his way to the top of a castle wall

Have you boys never been taught to not go into weird abandoned looking places? If you're going in at least one of you has to stay at the door like c'mon That's why you losers are trapped inside now

Coran! His official title of diplomat of Arus, interesting. Also, why would you tell a random group of dudes about voltron if that's your only hope? They're literally pointing weapons at you good sir

I'm not sure of the aesthetic entirely so feel free to correct me but Arus looked like it had a lot of Greco-Roman architecture, very nice looking but too bad it got destroy OISNV

Princess Allura at last! Very much looks like Aurora/Sleeping Beauty, but I wonder if that's what they were going for since she legitimately is a princess Pidge is smitten lol, I like to think the crush lasts like a week before it changes into seeing her as an older sister figure

Immediately she starts crying about her dead dad, like maybe I'm just being too apathetic, but I don't think you should trauma dump onto strangers princess

The legend just keeps getting more and more muddy So what's true so far is that voltron was split into 5 lions because of Haggar, but apparently King Alfor had activated it before Zarkon's attack and THAT'S when the split happened?? Yeah, uh, I'm just going to stick with Voltron was a legend on Arus and the boys weren't there to see the start of Arus's destruction because it happened years before they got there

I love Allura's voice, it's so nice to hear, and she very much seems her age or older GoLion said she was 16 at the boys' arrival, so I don't see them much older than their mid 20s except for Pidge who is definitely a child at 12

And the official uniforms are on! I still don't really understand why Keith never got black but iirc I was told that red was seen as the color for a leader or something like that I also like to believe that Lance chose blue because it looked good on him lol

Oh, so blue lion IS in a lake, but the castle is basically on an island in said lake which is why there's a bridge as if there was a moat interesting it's probably a moat in GoLion but shh I'm gonna build whatever lore I want with this

Man the old control room was so cool, maybe it's a me thing but LOOK AT ALL THOSE BUTTONS I WANT TO PRESS TO FEEL THEIR CLICK

Voltron is apparently king of robots? I think that's funny considering the VA for Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) is the one narrating the show

End of Episode 2! More exposition, finally getting to see some supporting cast and settling into the main setting for the show Already getting the vibes that this dub isn't supposed to be that deep but because of its more gruesome predecessor it really can be if you pay attention to it

The paladins of Old all raising a human child together. This can be headcannons or a scenario, whichever you see fit.

I'm going with headcanons for this one, so I hope that you enjoy 😊 I had a lot of fun writing these 😁

~ When the Paladins found you as a baby abandoned in an old building when they were checking out Earth, none of them could believe that someone would just up and abandon a baby

~ Like, how could someone do that?

~ No one on their planets would ever abandon a baby

~ They decide to take you with them and raise you

~ There's five of them and one of you, so they decide to split up the time you spend living with each of them on their homeworlds

~ Trigel's never been too good with kids, but she instantly clicks with you

~ Blaytz thinks that you're the cutest baby ever and wants to dress you up in cute, frilly dresses

~ Gyrgan isn't sure if you're a girl or a boy until it's time to change your diaper

~ Alfor takes diaper changing duty upon himself since he's done it with Allura so many times

~ Honesty, he's the most experienced out of all five of your new parents

~ When Zarkon wants to hold you after you've been changed, you burst into tears because you're scared of the big scary man

~ Zarkon feels absolutely rejected

~ Blaytz and Gyrgan easily calm you down after a few moments of reassuring you that Zarkon won't hurt you

~ When you fall asleep, Trigel is the one holding you

~ Blaytz, Trigel, Alfor and Gyrgan have their different ways of calming you down if you start crying when you're living with each of them

~ While you're a baby, you spend most of your time with your new mom since you bonded with her the quickest

~ When Blaytz and Gyrgan get their turns taking care of you, they love carrying you around in baby slings

~ Even though you're just a baby at the time, Blaytz makes sure that you have a huge wardrobe of the cutest little outfits to wear while you're living with him

~ Your wardrobe gets bigger as you get older

~ Alfor, Blaytz, Trigel and Gyrgan love every moment they spend with you while you're a baby since you won't be a baby forever

~ They all still love you just as much, if not more, when you eventually grow into a child

~ Teething is difficult for everyone except Zarkon to deal with; he gives you plenty of Galran teething rings

~ You throw baby food at Zarkon when he tries to feed you, but you don't throw it at your other parents

~ When you were younger, you also spit up on him a lot

~ Zarkon thinks that you hate him, but the other Paladins keep reassuring him that you don't

~ As you grow into a toddler, you still think that Zarkon's scary

~ When you're living on Altea, you enjoy playing with your big sister, Allura

~ Alfor and Melenor love having a second daughter and Coran enjoys having a second honorary niece

~ Playing tea party out in the garden with Allura happens fairly often

~ When you spend your time on Nalquod, Blaytz dresses you up in the cutest little dresses and puts bows in your hair

~ He's the dad that spoils you the most

~ While you're living with your mom, Trigel, you love being outside with her

~ And when you're living with Gyrgan, you love hugging him and when he takes you out to get something similar to slushies

~ Gyrgan spoils you a little, but not too much

~ In order to teach you not to become a brat, the Paladins put you in time-out if/when you're acting bratty

~ They also teach you to take good care of your clothes and toys, to have manners and to treat others with respect

~ Bath time is fun no matter where you go, especially since each place has a different set of bath toys for you to play with

~ You love story time until you're too old to like it, but until then, your parents love telling you bedtime stories and tucking you in before you fall asleep

~ It isn't until you turn six that you don't think Zarkon is scary anymore

~ You don't really spend a whole lot of time living on Daibazaal, but when you do, Zarkon acts a little awkward around you

~ You're so tiny compared to him and he's afraid to accidentally hurt you

~ As you get a little older, you don't think it's weird that you look nothing like your four dads and one mom (or Melenor)

~ Eventually they tell you how they found you, but that's not until you're a teenager

~ You're enrolled in different schools as you grow up and you have a Dayak on Daibazaal

~ Your favorite school to go to is on Altea since you get to learn Altean alchemy

~ Sometimes school can get a little stressful because you're going to different schools as you grow up, but whichever parent you're living with helps you through whatever you're going through

~ You get to learn about so many cultures and languages when you're growing up

~ You also get to wear five different styles of clothing once you're old enough to pick your own clothes out

~ Having four dads and two moms (if you include Melenor) is fun because each parent is different in their own unique ways

~ Because each of your parents are Royalty, you have Princess lessons when you're old enough

~ Even though you have to learn how to be a young lady in public, you get to be yourself when you're having down time

~ You enjoy taking up different hobbies when you're living on each planet

~ You also love celebrating all of the different holidays on each planet when you're living with each of your parents

~ Whenever you're living on Daibazaal, Zarkon lets you watch him train his pupils his fighting techniques while also helping them strengthen their own techniques

~ You're not allowed to join though because it's dangerous

~ Even though you don't hate Zarkon, you prefer spending time and living with your other four parents

~ When you're seven, you decide to sneak into the Blue Lion when Voltron is needed somewhere

~ Blaytz makes sure that you're okay after giving you a light scolding

~ You wanted to go on a Paladin adventure, but you promise him that you'll never sneak into another Lion again

~ You love all of your parents equally, but also in different ways

~ And each of the Paladins love you because as they're concerned, you're always going to be their little girl
