rosemary AND garlic sourdough?! kasper that is some sexy sexy bread - please update when you make your toast!
oh my god sorrel. i literally want to tell the whole world about my toast so thank you so much for asking. basically i went to the grocery store for bread yesterday and suffered shrimp emotions when my favorite california brand of sourdough bread was sold out (i am a creature of habit and deviations in grocery stores give me existential crises. also there were too many people and they were being loud in the bread section. and the reason i buy local is bc california sourdough > everyone else.) so as i am processing the 5 stages of grief over What Sourdough Do I Buy Now, i see: her. a lonely loaf of garlic and rosemary sourdough made by a company over in watsonville. in the throes of grocery store anxiety, i decide to giver her a new home in my kitchen, so i buy her and one of her normcore brothers for sandwiches and leave bc truly the grocery store at 7pm is no place for me.
and it is SO GOOD MY GOD SOR, when you toast it, you get just the right amount of crunchy AND fluffy. the garlic and rosemary balance each other out so well but do not take over the taste of sourdough. it is literally the most incredible artisan bread i have ever put in my mouth that i have bought in a major grocery store chain. i literally dream of my next piece of toast. and my friend is on campaign to get me to admit that foil-wrapped butter is better than wax-wrapped butter and frankly i can't tell the difference that well, but i have been buying more european/european-style butter because of it and ohhhhh my god, when creamy salted butter melts perfectly onto the hot bread? i feel like i'm tasting the divinity of god and she's a piece of toast in my mouth.
i realize this makes me sound crazy. i know this. but it is so good. i have eaten half a loaf in two days despite trying to make it last until nye so i can ring in the new year doing a puzzle and eating my new best friend this rosemary garlic sourdough made in watsonville.

Week 5: Groceries, Madrid Musts, and Barcelona
The thing no one tells you about moving to a different country is that grocery shopping is exhausting. There are no brands you recognize, everything’s in different packaging, and even if you know the language, your food vocab probably isn’t extensive enough to know the difference between different types of milks or oils. Now in my fourth week of grocery shopping here. I thought I had the hang of things, but it still takes me like an hour to get two weeks worth of groceries. I have to walk around and figure out where what I need is, then sift through the twenty different options of the same thing by turning each item over and pretending that I understand the ingredients list enough to help me make a decision. I guess one perk of not knowing anything about the grocery store is that you get to discover new foods. Back home, my family’s always gotten the same bread, milk, eggs my whole life. So I have no idea if there’s a better brand out there. But here, I get to pick and explore. Last week, when buying cheese for sandwiches, I picked a random one and oh my gosh it’s the best cheese I ever had. Maybe when I get home, I’ll start being more adventurous with my grocery shopping. But yeah, mini rant over, and to summarize, if you’re going abroad and reading this, get mentally prepared to go grocery shopping.
In other news, this week, I went to see the sunset at Templo de Debod and also went to see Museo Sorolla. Both are musts in Madrid. Templo de Debod is an Egyptian temple that was moved to Madrid in order to be preserved. It’s a super cool piece of Egyptian history with a small museum inside, and it’s on top of a hill, so it makes for one of the most popular sunset spots. I really enjoyed watching the sunset here this week and will definitely be back!
Tumblr media
Even if you’re someone who doesn’t quite enjoy the big art museums (like the Prado), I can almost guarantee that Museo Sorolla will still be enjoyable. Joaquin Sorolla is a famous Spanish Impressionism-esque painter. His house in Madrid is turned into a museum, so you get to walk through his house while looking at his original paintings, furniture, gardens, etc. It really feels like more of a tour through someone’s life than an art museum. And it’s a small museum, so you can finish in about an hour, or two with the audio guide (which I loved so much and definitely recommend). I loved the gardens out front and how beautifully everything was preserved in the house. It really is a lesser known gem in Madrid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another rather unconventional must in my opinion is Flying Tiger. Flying Tiger is a Danish chain of stores that sell things I can only describe as “things you didn’t know you needed until you see them”. I think it’s pretty aptly named because you’ve probably never thought of a flying tiger before, but now that I’ve said it- how cool would a flying tiger be? That’s exactly what everything in the store is like. Little knickknacks that you don’t really need, but are so interesting you’ll just need to have it. One of my favorite things were these little balloon clips that let you reuse the balloon instead of tying it. Like how cool is that??? It’s a dangerous shop to go into for sure, and you’ll probably end up buying something. But embrace it and go visit Flying Tiger for yourself.
Tumblr media
This weekend, I took a quick trip to Barcelona. Having already been there with my family back in 2019, I took the time to walk around, explore the more artsy districts, re-visit the Sagrada Familia since it’s just that beautiful, and went to the flea market. We also went to the Bunkers of Carmel which had gorgeous 360° views of the city. I remember liking Barcelona better than Madrid when I first visited with my family, but now that I’ve been living in Madrid for almost a month, going to Barcelona has made me realize how much I appreciate Madrid. Both are beautiful cities, but there’s just something about the liveliness and deep history and culture in Madrid that’s unmatched.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So…you probably noticed there’s no drawing of the week today. Basically, I got my first Fluid Dynamics homework assigned and the time I would’ve spent drawing was spent on that. But I’m going to go ahead and say maybe there’ll be two drawings next week.
You’ll have to wait and see :)

Chapter 5
Jack had finished grilling the three sandwiches and dished them onto plates for the table. He turned and leaned around the wall to peer into the living room.
“Alright you freeloaders, table’s–”
Jack was already disappointed.
“Why…?”
“Look at what we made, old sport!”
There were a whole bunch of unlit cigarettes strewn across the rug that the two had been rearranging into pictures. The two aubergines looked up at him expectantly.
Outnumbered, Jack succumbed to humoring their “art” with a discerning eye.
“...Dave, what the hell did you make?”
“If ya had half a brain, you’d be able to tell!”
“Okay, well, hers is obviously a person–” She beamed at his correct answer; perhaps the first time Jack saw her cute smile–
“–but…”
Jack stared at Dave’s mangled quadruped. The more he tried to identify its cigarette-comprised existence, the more he came to pity it.
“I dunno, is it a horse? Whatever it is, it deserves the mercy of being euthanized on the spot.”
“Pruny, you know what it is, don’t ya!?"
Pruny looked closely again. She promptly shook her head.
“I’m surrounded by fools, the lot of ya! It’s a doggo!”
“Ah yes, of course.”
“...Kinda like the one that’s always appearin’ behind you.”
Caught off guard, Jack and Dave exchanged a long stare as if they’d breached a taboo subject.
“...Y-You see it too…?"
Jack promptly brushed off the topic.
“A-Anyway, hurry and pick those all up so we can eat. Those better not’ve been my cigarettes you just put floor germs on.”
“Sportsy, I’m pretty sure you’re made of floor germs. You work at Freddy’s.”
Dave rolled his eyes as Jack ignored him. He then turned his gaze toward Pruny.
“Well, you heard the man.”
Leaving those two to clean up–
Jack paused. Okay, yeah, that was definitely the clean up song he heard Dave humming.
Trying to ignore it, Jack went to get drinks from the fridge.
*sigh*
Alcohol. Of course the only drinks he had in the fridge were just all the beer cans.
Although to be perfectly honest, after the bad mood today put him in, he could really–
No. Never in front of her.
…Dammit, stop. thinking. This is what I wanted to avoid.
Rubbing his temples as he thought of an alternative, it appeared that Dave was on the money with the tap water after all. And speaking of the Devil, the two aubergines finally came in and started sitting as Jack refilled the cups with sink water.
“Ah, these look FANTASTIC! You must really know your way around bread and cheese, if you know what I mean.”
“I– what?” Jack felt his face heat up with unpleasant confusion as he set the cups down. Maybe he did need a can.
“I’m just sayin, the way you put the cheese between the bread–”
“–I don’t want to hear whatever you’re about to say. Eat your sandwich.”
“Aye aye, captain.”
Pruny had silently started to eat the first piece of her triangularly cut sandwich but stopped before the slice could reach her mouth.
She watched Dave unhinge his jaw to fit the whole sandwich into his mouth. Jack also slowed his process of sitting down to watch in fascinated horror.
“...Ah, good shit.” He spoke through a full mouth before gulping presumably all of it down uncomfortably quickly.
The witnesses blinked back.
...
“So: I been thinkin’–”
“–Oh, that’s never a good sign,” Jack snarked from behind a glass of water.
“Ha ha. Now, Pruny. You wanna stay the night here, yeah?”
With hardly a moment to consider, she nodded. Jack remained silent.
“Well then, she’s gonna need somewhere to sleep!”
“She can take the couch.”
“Stingy, but all right. But then you’re gonna need blankets, and ya sure don’t have any to spare!”
“And why do you know this?”
“That’s none ‘a your business.”
It absolutely was his business, but Jack decided he didn’t want to know.
“Anyway, what I’m gettin at is that we gotta go shopping for a couple things for her if she’s gonna stay here a while.”
“She’s going back with you tomorrow.”
“Oh, to what, the bench I sleep on? Alright then, maybe I can make room for her!”
Dave's sarcasm was right and Jack hated it.
“You don’t hafta worry so much, old sport. I’ll help out! Like hell I’m gonna let you become Prune’s favorite without a fight!” he said, reaching to pat her on the head.
She took it, flinching shyly before returning to her sandwich slices as the two continued to discuss.
But Jack had fallen silent. Given his slumped posture, crossed arms and blank stare down at the table, Jack was clearly thinking, so Dave let him have his silence, taking out a cigarette in the meantime.
If things continued like this...
Jack couldn't foresee an end to this arrangement any time soon, but this wouldn't be sustainable either. He really only barely got by himself because of his immortality considering Faztokens are not a universally accepted currency outside of Fazbender's. He was broke, and it takes real money to feed and take care a living kid so they, you know, stay living.
Dave took out a cigarette.
And speaking of Fazbender's, what were they gonna do with Pruny during the day, leave her to wander the restaurant while they worked all afternoon? It'd actually be safer just to drop her back onto the streets at that rate.
Dave took out a cigarette.
But that's obviously out of the question. Jack may be complicit in child murder, but he wasn't heartless! But then that naturally begged the question: why not an orphanage? Both she and Dave seemed to react negatively to that idea last time he brought it up like it was a touchy subject.
Dave took out a cigarette. Pruny was stifling a giggle.
So what was their deal with that? Because frankly taking her to something like an orphanage was Jack's best bet to get out of this whole mess.
“Dave? I know you–”
“Fourgh! Fourgh higguresh!” he declared the moment Jack finally spoke, holding four fingers up at Pruny.
As if celebrating…whatever that was, Dave promptly took out a lighter, presumably to light his cigarette– er, cigarettes. Four of them to be exact. All hanging out of his mouth.
“Y'know, Dave, these days they're always harping on about smoking around children. Especially four cigarettes at once.”
“Oh bhoo fughing hoo! She'za bhig ghirl.”
“Then at least don't talk with your mouth full of lit cigarettes!” Jack said, taking one out of Dave's lips and smoking it himself.
Dave double checked that Sportsy had really just... done that. Was that… normal? Pruny of course continued dutifully watching and listening to them like a hawk as she always did.
“Anyway, take those out so you can actually talk.”
“Alright, buzzkill,” he said, putting two out on the plate and keeping the third in his fingers.
“Dave, I need you to tell me. Last time I mentioned bringing her to an orphanage, you blew up at me, but I don’t understand. Why are you so against the idea?"
Dave was startled by such a serious question. He was about to snark back but... Old Sport really just genuinely didn’t have a clue, did he?
“A-Are they really that bad!?”
“Well, I wouldn’t really know how it is for most kids.
But for someone like m’self, well. No one likes an aubergine, specially not in the 50s. Parents didn’t want me, the other kids didn’t like me… the nuns sure as hell dropped their whole ‘sweet’ act with me when no one was there to give a shit.
At some point I’m guessin’ they finally decided I wasn’t human enough to be a ‘child in need’ or whatever bullshit they peddled.
I hope most of em are rotting underground by now.”
“W-Wow, uhh…” Jack scratched the back of his head at the sudden tension.
“Prune, were they nice to you at yours? You wanna go back to it?”
She tensed up as their attention turned to her. Breaking precious eye contact in favor of the finished plate in front of her, it took a couple moments before she finally shook her head.
“Of course not. I know the 80s're supposed to be all progressive n’ shit now, but think most people missed the memo with us colored people. E-Er, I meant in the literal sense… l-like us three, n-not…
A-Anyway, the girl doesn’t even talk! Y’think they’re gonna be patient with an aubergine who doesn’t even talk back?”
“Dave, you need to be more sensitive in how you talk about it!” Jack hissed in response to Pruny flushing red with embarrassment.
“S-Sorry! I didn’t mean t–!”
“Why… Why don’t we just drop all this and just get in the car to go shopping.”
“Grand idea!” His excitement barely masked his greater relief at the needed subject change.
"C'mon, Prune, let's get you some stuff!"
Pruny's eyes lit up at Dave's words as she matched Dave's smile. As she slid out of her chair, Dave came to offer her a hand which she accepted as Jack got a head start for the front door with his keys ready.

2023 yule bash menu Alpha - victory lap
SAVORIES
Spiced boiled beef - (17 people annihilated a three pound bottom round of Experiment Meat - I also liked the beef but frankly im kind of astounded at the public reception and wondering if people are pulling my leg. condiments were salted cucumber, mustards, my homemade chili jam, etc.)
Baked sandwich loaf - (did a twisted loaf formation which, in my hubris, did not really gel and each slice of bread subdivided into three separate units when sliced - not the end of the world. I am NOT getting the hang of instant yeast. a good friend's mom sent me a thank-you email that asked if the bread had been Irish soda bread and I was like fuck that would have been WAY more convenient, dammit, thanks a lot Kit)
herbed buttermilk biscuits - (chives & tarragon)
COOKIES
Priyaniki - (a good 1/3 of the honey used was chestnut honey and oh boy does that flavor prevail. can't taste a lick of the anise)
Melomakarona - (generally, the socially easy fav. don't think I did the syrup right this year, the walnut topping didn't want to stick like it used to)
sables bretons - (used cute little cutters for these! scalloped circles and diamonds. probably the best they've turned out in the years of making, still working on the texture/thickness)
CAKE/ISH
the black cake, w/royal icing - (icing this thing makes it WAY more approachable to the Partygoer -easily the most black cake consumed by a party body in the five years of me throwing this damn thing. and in my opinion, the best black cake batch I've ever made - in a fit of pique I removed the egg casing/chalazae from a dozen yolks and made my own browning. I was so sad when I made this cake this year)
country Christmas cake, smothered with quince jam, marzipan, and royal icing - (I was so unhappy with the first try I had to make it again. I almost left it but I was like, NO. I invited my friend above over to watch me bake it while they knitted and then they helped me move a ton of furniture, due to my agonies)
DRINKS
mulled wine - it was there!
eggnog - today, I saw a "sadist dom top" on the Internet say how disgusting eggnog is (curdled mayo - heard it!) personally, I don't think this man is very tough. personally, this man can suck chalazae. online, bitching, like the bitch he is!
GELATINS
three-layer lemon honeycomb mold - half-collapsed?? bad gelatin luck two years in a row! despair!
black velvet & cream jelly - would not leave it's kennel for ages, but held together in one piece, thank god.
last year's party, I enacted a "I am preparing only desserts" rule, which ended up in my accidentally starving myself for a day and a night. this year, someone came up to me and said "thank you so much for not doing desserts-only this year" so now, I guess, I can put doing that again right out of my mind.

on a Wednesday, in a cafe (chapter 24)

thursday lunchbox: shrimp pan-toasted sandwich
There's a knock on the door. Gil hurriedly puts the leftover sandwiches inside the microwave then rushes out of the kitchen. On the other side of the door is Sprite, who just returned after finishing her last day of the final exam.
“I heard Thena’s back early,” she beams, “Is she in there?”
Gil glances back at the living room, lowering his voice sadly, “Yeah, but she’s tired. She had a bad day. Do you still want to come in?”
Sprite’s smile wavers a bit, “It's alright, I’ll let her rest. I just came up to thank her for helping me with the exam. I did pretty good.”
“Good job!” Gil rubs her hair and she struggles to dodge his hand, “Thena was worried about you, you know. She’ll be very proud of you, and so is everybody.”
Sprite returns his smile, her cheeks pink, “Then please tell her the results for me. Also, this is the flyers for my school’s annual Sport Event,” she hands him the colourful papers that she’s been holding onto.
“Oh, it’s happening already? Are you competing this year?”
“Of course. I’ll play for my badminton club and participate in a relay race.”
“Two competitions?” Gil raises his eyebrows, looking impressed, “How about your theatre club?”
“As usual, we’ll perform in the afternoon. This year we’re doing the Hadestown musical,” She says proudly, “I’m the director.”
“As expected.”
“Ajak invited Makkari and I invited Sersi and Kingo. It’s not anything big but if you have time this year, I’d be glad if you can go, any time of the day is fine.”
“What are you talking about? Of course we’ll be there! Last year was a real blast, I’m sure Thena would want to come too.”
“But why do I remember that someone fell asleep half the time of our play last year?”
Gil scratches his head, “In my defense, I was tired at the time because I had to participate in that three-legged race for parents with Makkari. Remember? When Ajak had a sprained ankle?”
“Gotta admit, you played the role of my foster dad pretty well.”
“I can’t do that again this year though, I have Thena. But unless she wants me to,” he shrugs.
“Yeah, sure pal,” Sprite waves her hand dismissively, “We don’t have that this year anyway, instead we hold a 100 meters race for the parents.”
“So Ajak will run then?”
“Absolutely. She’s been waiting for her revenge because last year we only got third place. Not great.”
“That’s because Makkari and I weren’t familiar with each other's rhythm,” Gil pouts, “Ajak’s steps and mine are two very different things! Give us one week and we’ll snatch that first place without sweating.”
“Just messing with you,” Sprite giggles, “But don’t forget to come. If you don’t want to see me kick some seniors' and freshmen’s asses then just come to see Ajak run, it’d be worth it.”
“Won’t miss it for the world. I’ll cook something for lunch that day, we can have a picnic.”
“Alright, send my regards to Thena, will you? I hope she'll feel better soon.”
“I’ll take good care of her.”
“I know,” she nods, “My shift is starting. Are you staying with her for the rest of the day?”
“Yeah, it’s a slow evening but call me if you need. And I bought ice cream for you in the fridge.”
“Cool! Thanks, boss,” Sprite gives him a thumb up, then skips down the stairs.
“Oh shit, my sandwiches!” Gil mumbles to himself and dashes back into the kitchen. He takes the food out of the microwave, hissing because of the hot plate. He puts it on the table, covers it with a bigger plate before moving into the living room.
Thena barely touched her lunch today, even though she kept mentioning that shrimp pan-toasted sandwich ever since Sersi found the recipe on the internet and brought them some of those. Shrimp is covered with flour and deep fried, then mixed with a mixture of mayo-ketchup sauce. Then they are sandwiched between two pieces of bread that are buttered with mustard, along with a slice of cheddar cheese and some shredded cabbage. Finally, the sandwiches are fried on both sides to make the bread crispy. He made her three small ones, she left two and hasn’t eaten any of the tomato salad.
According to what she told him, there was a fight between the court attendees this morning when she was in the middle of her part. She wasn’t injured but the screams and loud noises triggered her. She didn’t have a panic attack either but it was a very damn close call. After the court adjourned, she locked herself in her office for the rest of the afternoon, avoiding everyone and eventually, she had to call Gil to come and pick her up early with a small and trembling voice, saying that she was having a massive headache. In the safe space of her car, she sobbed in his arms for a sole 10 minutes. Then he drove them back to his place. He absolutely doesn’t intend to leave her alone now and she doesn’t protest either.
She's lying in a fetal position on his couch. Her hair hides away her face so it’s hard to see if she’s sleeping or awake. But her breaths are not even and her shoulders are shaking slightly. Gil crouches down and touches her arm.
“How’s your headache?”
She just shakes her head but doesn’t flinch when he touches her forehead, which is a good sign. He parts her hair and feels like someone just pierced his heart with a knife. The woman he loves more than life itself opens her eyes to look at him, another wave of tears leaks out, rolling down her beautiful, already wet cheeks. Her lips tremble, she holds out her arms and he immediately scoops her up and into his arms like she was a little kitten. She draws her knees to her chest as she clings to him, burying her face into his neck.
“It’s okay, I’m here,” he holds her with one hand, the other stroking her hair, feeling her tears soak his shirt, “I’m right here. I’ve got you, it’s alright, baby.”
“I’m sorry,” she whimpers.
“What are you sorry for?”
“You put a lot of effort into my lunch but I couldn’t eat.”
“Thena…” Now it’s him who feels like crying, “All I care about is your well-being. I can make as many sandwiches as you want.”
“Still,” she sniffles, “I hate wasting your food.”
“You’re not wasting them,” he rubs her back, “They’re still edible so I put them into the microwave. But leave them to me, I’ll make you something else.”
“What are you going to make?”
“What else? Your comfort food, of course.”
“Who eats blueberry pies for dinner?” She says, but the thought of a scalding hot pie makes her stomach rumble. Surely Gil feels that because his palm is pressed to her belly. He just laughs, lifting that same hand to stroke along the bridge of her nose, wiping away the remaining tears on her cheeks.
“We do.”
“What about your shop?” She has asked this many, many times, not just today but nearly every time he puts his work aside to stay with her when she needs him. She knows what he’ll say, she just wants to hear it again. And Gil always indulges her. He’ll repeat it as many times as it takes for her to truly believe it.
“You’re my biggest priority,” he starts rocking her back and forth gently, his voice tender and soothing as a lullaby, “And Eternal doesn’t serve dinner so there isn’t much to do, really. I’ll just come down if there are so many customers that our friends can’t handle it. But I doubt that could happen.”
For the first time in the day, Thena manages a smile. She pulls herself up a bit to kiss both of his cheeks. He scoots them to the edge of the couch to reach for the glass of water on the coffee table and brings it to her lips. She takes a few sips, then asks.
“Did Sprite come up earlier?”
“Yeah, she passed by to tell us that she did great on her exam and to thank you for tutoring her.”
“I’m glad,” her smile grows wider and she’s playing with his fingers, “I’ll text her in a minute.”
“There’s a Sport Event at her school this Sunday, she’ll be competing in badminton and a relay race.”
“Two competitions? It’s great to be young,” she rubs her cheek on his shirt. She doesn’t have many memories from her high school years, all she can recall is that it was quite dull even though she went to the same school as Sprite. And she skipped the final year to attend Oxford.
“Hey, we’re still relatively young,” he snorts, pulling her out of her thoughts, “But she’s truly having the time of her life, even directing a musical play the same day.”
“Ajak must be very proud.”
“No shit. And the girl invited us there,” Gil hands her the flyers, “Wanna go together? Could be a nice trip back to school.”
“Certainly, it’s a must. I want to see a Hadestown high school version,” then she sighs, sagging against Gil, “But I still have to survive that stupid banquet tomorrow night.”
“So you decided to go?”
She shakes her head, “After what happened today, I want to stay home even more.”
“It’s just a party anyway. If you don’t want to go, you can stay home and we’ll have a big dinner then watch TV until we fall asleep,” he runs his fingers through her hair, giving her head a light massage as he drops a kiss on her temple, “And if you wanted to go, would I still be your plus one?”
She huffs a laugh, “My one and only.”
Gil tugs at their clasped hands, “C’mon, let’s get to work. I bought some cute cookie molds, you can use them to cut decorating crusts.”
“Which shapes do you have?”
“A rabbit, a cat, a moon, a star. I think you should use the star mold, because you’re my superstar.”
“I don’t feel like one right now,” she trails off. However, she lets him lead them into the kitchen.
“Don’t sell yourself short, you’re incredible!” He turns around to face her, “It’s just that you had a hard day, it can’t deny all of your improvement. You’ve come this far,” he squeezes her hand, “I can’t say how proud I am of you, but I’ll say that if you need some rest, please know that you deserve to rest.”
“Will you be there? When I’m not feeling like a superstar,” The vulnerable, silly question that she only asks when they are alone. She absolutely doesn’t allow anyone else to see this side of her.
Gil picks her up and puts her on the table, then steps in between her legs.
“Forevermore, and after,” he promises. Even though they’ve known each other less than a year, he's sure about that more than anything.
“For as long as you’ll have me.”
He did say that to her, not so long ago, on a very different day than today. But he’s always there, seeming to be the most solid thing that’s ever been hers, the one person that she trusts enough to hold on to, lean on, or hide in. She hopes that she would never take him for granted and forget to give back, to cherish him, to let him know that she loves him with every breath she takes. But all worries evade her when he palms her face in his large hands, brushing her hair out of her face so he can kiss her forehead, the tip of her nose, and her lips, then he says, “Let’s make our pie.”
Our pie - the word makes her smile. She likes the sound of it. She likes it a lot, a lot, a lot.

7 for the babysitting ask game
7. Role reversal: The kids babysitting the babysitter (somehow)
Violetta promised to look after Ludmila's daughter while Ludmila was out on some errands. Camila in the last minute also asked if Vilu please could watch her kid.
"Sure thing!"
Ludmila's daughter Stella and Camila's kid Kim were 3 and 4 respectively. As they came over, Violetta set up some toys for them to play with as she went to make them some sandwhiches.
"Kids! Come eat!"
"No, we wanna play!" Kim said.
"But you need to eat your sandwiches."
"We'll eat them while playing," Stella explained.
"No, you eat them at the table. Otherwise there's gonna be crumbs on the carpet.”
The children suddenly stared at her.
"Ok. We eat, you play," Kim said.
"Huh?"
"We sit on the table and eat and you need to play."
"We're gonna babysit you!" Stella giggled.
"Yes, so do as we say!"
Violetta smiled. "Alright."
She sat down on the floor and tapped on the toys a bit as the children went to eat their sandwiches. She observed them the entire time.
As they finished eating, they went up to her.
"Oh, let me go wipe your mouths," Violetta said, noticing the kids had crumbs around their mouths.
"No, we are adults," Kim said. "And we want to have dirty mouths."
"Now you need to sleep!" Stella declared.
"I need to sleep?" Violetta asked, letting out a snicker.
"Yes. It's time for your nap. Lie on the couch!"
Violetta did as she was told.
The children put a blanket on her.
"Sleep now," Stella said.
Violetta closed her eyes, although opened one of them to watch the children, so that they wouldn't get into any mischief.
However, they just sat down and played. Violetta smiled. It was cozy just lying on the couch.
After like 10 minutes, Kim suddenly stood up.
"You need to wake up! Your nap is over!"
"Alright." Violetta sat up.
"Now you need a snack!"
"Ooh, are you gonna make me a sandwhich?"
"I can't use knifes," Stella said. "Mama said no."
"My mom said no, too..." Kim said.
"Ok, maybe I can make myself a sandwich!" Violetta suggested.
"No!" Kim exclaimed, "You're a kid and we are adults! We will fix it!"
The kids walked to the kitchen. Kim grabbed a chair and went to grab a piece of bread. Then they walked back and handed it to Violetta.
"You need to eat in the kitchen because we cannot have crumbs on the carpet."
"Of course," Violetta said and walked to the kitchen. She eat the pale bread with nothing on it.
"Wipe your mouth!" Stella said. Violetta had no crumbs stuck on her face, but she let the toddler grab some paper and wipe her face with it.
"Thank you! You two are really good babysitters!"
Stella and Kim smiled at her. But then Stella's smile disappeared.
"What's wrong?" Violetta asked. "You need to use the bathroom?"
"Yes..."
"You can go alone, you're an adult!" Kim said.
Stella shook her head. "No babysitting anymore!" She hugged Violetta's leg. "Help, please."
Kim seemed unsure of breaking the game of babysitting the babysitter. But they kinda needed to use the bathroom too, and also needed some assistance.
"Game is over. You're the babysitter again."
"Well, I don't know if I can be as good as you two!" Violetta admitted.
Stella started stomping her legs. "Bathroom, now!"
"Oh, of course. Let's go, kids."

Relationship status: it is also a long distance relationship and im polyamorous
Favourite Colour: i do not have one but like. idk i like the tones of jade, amber, and i like purple.
Song stuck in my head: i dont have one rn but the most recent was aint no sunshine.
Last song I listened to: uhh i dont remember what was playing on the radio while we were driving home but the last song i intentionally listened to was still alive.
Three favourite foods: i dont really have a favorite or even like a priority for top three favorites. but like idk i love seared salmon, i. hm. well i like breaded chicken but its not like my favorite its just kinda my go-to because its easy. similar with mac n cheese. theres a lot of *specific* sandwiches i love but i dont tend to make sandwiches for myself and theyre kinda diverse wrt fillings. i like barbecue chicken pizza but it is nothing incredible. i like pasta with butter/cream/cheese based sauces.
Dream trip: uh unlike kwarrtz i havent really traveled that much just like. visiting family basically. id like to hang out with a lot of people of course but as far as locations. well i am like, a bizarre human being. idk. im just not that allured by travel to places! part of this must be that my surroundings in general have not tended to be that beautiful + i have not Explored very much in quite a long time. like, if i made it a hobby to look for beauty in the environment around me outside i would likely have a stronger desire to see new places. as mentioned hang out with people, got plenty of european friends that itd be cool to visit. maybe for places i could pick somewhere that has nice museums, since i do have a real urge to see beauty in art. so that’d be a motivation. i should check out where pieces from the early 20th century russian avant garde are.
Anything I want right now: welllll i have like. a weird brain as mentioned. so it’s hard for me to prioritize something to put here. and a lot of hypotheticals are like inaccurately ranked in terms of ‘realness’. like it genuinely feels equally silly to talk about ‘i want to have my brain work properly and be able to get stuff done’ as to talk about ‘i want magic powers’. which is a bit silly in of itself. uhh, money is cool but as mentioned like dreaming for a million dollars seems equally fake to dreaming for magic powers. of them though i mean magic powers would obviously be the best to get but i think it’s most appropriate for the question to say that i would like to have better executive functioning (as in, better attention control, working memory, task switching, cognitive inhibition, and impulse control). oh and maybe jbt can have little a emotional management, as a treat.
tagging: genuinely i hate this. like i really actually hate doing this. i hate both leaving people out and i hate bothering people especially about something as meaningless and banal as this especially because these are often kinda annoying + the person who was tagged could have like a guilty conscience for ‘ignoring’ me tagging them. and to pick an immediate method that can reduce the sense of like, having actively excluded people, im checkin the most recent people i messaged in tumblrs messager. but thats like, 1 valid person, then a bunch of people who already were tagged through the chain of tags that resulted in me being tagged, then two people i dont know enough to feel comfortable tagging in something like this because itd be like invasive almost, then more already tagged people, deleted account, more tagged people, an artist i follow who seems generally like a bit socially reclusive and with whom im not really friends. like i got basically 1 valid pick. so i am not doing that because that’d be like insanely singling out. so yeah im not gonna tag anyone here

________
Friday Night
“Y/N, I’m downstairs when you’re ready,” said Jensen through your closed bedroom door.
“I’ll be there in five,” you said.
“See you in fifteen,” he chuckled before he walked away. You walked back into your bathroom, looking over your hair in a bun. It looked like a freaking messy bun actually. You should have done it down and in big flowy waves instead. You pouted and smoothed out your dress. Of course you were bloated and you’d nicked your leg more than once shaving earlier.
“It’s Jensen,” you said to yourself, taking a deep breath. “He’s never even seen you in makeup before. You’re fine. He’s not gonna say anything.”
You forced yourself out of the bathroom and slipped on your heels, your clutch in your hand. You wobbled for a step or two on the carpet but did better once you were out in the hardwood hall. Ten seconds later you were downstairs, heading over to the foyer area.
“All set?” you asked, Jensen spinning around. He smiled as he stared, eyes looking you up and down more than once, not even trying to hide it.
“Y/N, you look pretty,” said Arrow as she rushed in from the family room.
“Yes she does,” said Jensen. “We’ll be home soon, okay?”
“Okie dokie,” she said, wandering off with a little wave.
Half an hour later you were sat at a table in a very nice restaurant, Jensen tugging on his collar. His cheeks were slightly pink but it wasn’t from the cold outside.
“So...what’s a good wine?” you asked, sliding the drink list over to him. “I’m not really good with the names.”
“You like red or white?” he asked.
“Normally red,” you said. “You?”
“I like a Merlot,” he said. “You like dry?”
“Sure,” you said.
“We’re not going dutch tonight you know right. This is all on me.”
“We can go dutch, Jensen.”
“I asked you out and this is fancy, even for me. My treat, okay?” he asked.
“Alright,” you said, looking around the restaurant and over in the distance to the bar. “You know I could go for a lemon drop actually.”
He smirked and set the list down, a waiter coming by. He ordered a gin and tonic for himself while you got your cocktail, Jensen breaking off part of a breadstick from the basket.
“Bread’s good,” he said with his mouth full.
“So. Ackles,” you said, picking up a piece and tearing off a chunk with your teeth. He stared and started to laugh to himself. “Ah, there’s my sweet guy.”
“Thought you were gonna say boyfriend for a second.”
“This is our second official date,” you said. “So. Boyfriend.”
“Yes girlfriend?” he chuckled.
“What’s an appetizer look like in a place like this? Like a tiny cube of cheese with some dressing they’re gonna charge twenty bucks for or something like that?”
“You’re goofy,” he said, a big smile stuck on his face. “Uh, they probably have something like that. There’s normally some kind of bread olive oil bowl option.”
“Fancy people eat like a starving college student apparently,” you said. He tried to hide his laugh as your waiter brought over the drinks and a pair of menus. “Excuse me but can you recommend an appetizer? We’re both new to town and are wondering what you think is a good choice.”
“You can’t go wrong with our sourdough and seasoned oil dipping sauce,” he said. You glanced at Jensen and smiled. “The artichoke spinach dip and tartar crackers are also quite lovely.”
“Do you have anything with a little more substance? We’re quite starving,” said Jensen.
“The fried calamari and crab cake poppers combo is a great option,” he said.
“What’s calamari?” you asked.
“Squid, miss,” said the waiter.
“We’ll have that combo,” said Jensen.
“Perfect. I’ll put that in and be back shortly to get your dinner orders,” he said. He took off and you made a face at Jensen.
“Squid?” you asked.
“It’s fried. Trust me, it’s pretty good,” he said. “I could go for a good steak. You see a filet on here yet?”
“Uh,” you said, eyes scanning the page and seeing most everything was something you’d never heard of.
“There it is,” he said. “I’m getting that and scalloped potatoes. See anything you want to try?”
“Uh, why does half of this seem like it’s a foreign language to me?” you asked. Jensen looked at his menu and chuckled.
“That would be because it’s in French. We’re in Canada and this is a french restaurant.”
“Oh. Gotcha,” you said. He got up and leaned over the back of your chair, glancing at the page.
“These are soups and salads,” he said, pointing near the top. “Sandwiches. Pasta. Main dishes down here.”
“Uh, maybe pasta?” you said. He knelt down and read off the dishes to you one by one, your waiter returning by the time he was just finishing.
“Anything I can assist you with?” he asked.
“I’ll have the fettuccine alfredo with chicken please,” you said, handing the menu to him, Jensen returning to his seat.
“Face principale?” he asked. You stared at Jensen and he smiled.
“She doesn’t speak French,” said Jensen.
“My apologies miss. What would you like for your main side dish?” asked the waiter. “Steamed vegetables, scalloped potatoes, lobster bisque-”
“I’ll have the vegetables,” you said. Jensen ordered and the waiter went to get your appetizer, a sad smile on his face.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t think twice about the French thing.”
“Kinda hot that you know French,” you said. “I should try to learn it if we’re gonna be up here for a few months.”
“I’m an idiot and I learned it so you’ll do just fine picking it up,” he said.
“So where’d you learn in the first place?”
“I’m stuffed,” you said, plopping your napkin from your lap onto the table awhile later. Jensen took the last bite of the piece of mouse pie, licking his lips as he finished. “This might have been the best alfredo I’ve ever had.”
“I enjoyed it. Mostly I enjoyed listening to you talk,” he said. You blushed and looked away, Jensen letting out a small hum. “It’s funny. Doesn’t really feel like just a second date, does it.”
“No, not really,” you said. “I guess that’s what happens when you’re friends first.”
“Well I definitely like being friends with you,” he said.
“Me too, Jensen.”
“Want to get out of here?” he asked. You smiled and nodded, the two of you outside a few minutes later wrapped up in your coats. Your feet were cold in just your heels, Jensen’s arm wrapping around your waist when you almost slipped more than once. It was slow going back to the car, especially when it started to snow lightly.
“You know, that dress would still look hot with winter boots,” he chuckled.
“Sorry,” you said.
“No apology necessary. I got freaking dress shoes on and my feet are cold. I can’t imagine how you’re holding up,” he said.
“The perils of being a woman,” you said.
“Well, no need to impress me is all I’m saying. I ain’t looking at your feet anyways,” he said.
“Oh well in that case I’ll wear some nice baggy sweats next date.”
“Please do,” he said.
“You really don’t care, do you.”
“I think you look beautiful tonight. But I think you look beautiful every night. You did your hair and makeup and this is stunning, don’t get me wrong. But she’s not more beautiful than the girl at home with hair tossed up all messy walking around in oversized shirts and leggings. It’s like flowers. Both are pretty but one isn’t more pretty than the other.”
“Where the fuck did I find you?”
“At my house,” he chuckled. You whacked his arm and leaned your head on his shoulder. “Almost back to the car. I’ll blast the heat for us when we’re in there.”
“Thanks Jensen.”
“Thank you for the date, honey. I mean it. We’ll do it again sometime. Promise.”
Saturday Night
“Your boyfriend seems pissed,” said Brandon. You sipped up the last of your beer, glancing over to the bar where Jensen was tapping his finger.
“He’s fine,” you said. “So any good parks around the west side of town?”
“Center Grove is always my choice. Good playground, nice area, cops routinely are around. Parking can kinda be a bitch sometimes but it’s worth it in my opinion. My kids love it.”
“You’ve been their nanny for five years you said?”
“Mhm,” he said, knocking back the last of his drink. “Shawn’s mom is their mom’s best friend.”
“Oh. So you had an in already.”
“You know long term gigs are the way to go in this job,” he said. “Not too many American girls come up here. Your accent is cute.”
“Is it, eh?” you chuckled.
“Like I’ve never heard that one before,” he said, Jensen walking back with two beers and a clenched jaw.
“You okay?” you asked as he sat it down in front of you.
“I’m fine,” he said, taking a long sip. Brandon slid off his seat and made a face.
“I need a refill anyways. Nice meeting you Y/N. We gotta hang some time,” he said as he walked away.
“For sure,” you said, Jensen rolling his eyes behind his back. “Jensen what’s going on?”
“Nothing,” he said.
“Well you obviously have a problem with Brandon.”
“I don’t have a problem with him. I have a problem with my girlfriend flirting with another guy.”
“I was not flirting. I’m trying to make new friends. It was your idea to come to this thing tonight anyways.”
“Whatever,” he scoffed.
“Excuse me?”
“In case I wasn’t clear, I’m not the kind of guy where I’m okay with you dating multiple people at once. I don’t get that not exclusive shit.”
“I’m with you and only you. I was being nice. Geez, let’s just go,” you said. You got up and pulled your coat on, bumping into a guy on the way out. He turned and apologized, staring at you a little long.
“Y/N?” he asked, a big smile on his face. “My Y/N?”
“Dad?” you said, his face much older looking than you remembered but his eyes still the same.
“Dad?” said Jensen. You brushed past your dad and outside, Jensen hot on your heels.
“Y/N,” your dad said as he left the bar.
“Stay away from me,” you said. “Jensen I want to go home right now.”
“What-”
“Right fucking now!”
He held up his hands and you walked around the block to the car, getting inside and Jensen taking off.
“So your dad’s alive huh,” he said. You stared out the dark window with crossed arms. “So is everything I know about you bullshit?”
“What?”
Is literally anything you’ve ever told me true? Your dad obviously didn’t die when you were a kid. All those late night talks about family and shit, you just like to fuck with people or something?”
“I was not flirting with Brandon you asshole. You didn’t need to know my whole life story the second I meet you.”
“Oh. Okay. Just your fake life story then, huh?” he said. You shook your head as he got stuck at a red light. “If I can’t trust you, I can’t employ you let alone date you.”
“Whatever,” you said. He drove in silence until you were out of the city, going along quieter roads. You were close to the house when he suddenly turned right towards the local park and stopped in the lot, putting the car in park. He touched your arm and you turned, Jensen leaning over and kissing you roughly, far more roughly than you thought he was capable of. You blinked when he pulled back, Jensen looking you up and down.
“He won’t hurt you.”
“What?”
“Did he walk out on you and your mom?” he asked. “You told him to stay away from you. Sort of shouted it at him. Maybe you lied but maybe...I’m sorry I got jealous of Brandon. I’m still scared and I think you’re still scared too and that’s okay. If you lied about your dad, I’m gonna trust you have a good reason for it. I’m sorry for what I said. I trust you and I don’t want to know what my life is like without you in it.”
“It’s okay,” you said quietly. “I forgive you.”
“You don’t have to tell me what happened,” he said. “We can just go home, okay?”
“Why’d you pull over?”
“Because I knew I didn’t mean it and I knew I overreacted. I said I’d mess up when we started. It’s been a long time since I’ve done this. I’m 42 with three kids. Brandon is thirty and young and stronger than I am and can go out to the bar whenever he wants. You have options. You don’t have to settle for me.”
“If I’d wanted to settle, I’d have married my ex. What I wanted was the guy that forgives me for not telling him the whole story cause I’m not ready to say it. I want the guy that makes me happy and feel like I have a teenage crush but it’s deeper than that. You’re not the settle for option, Jensen. Why don’t you get that?”
“The last time I felt like this, I married the girl,” he said quietly. “That didn’t turn out so well.”
“You didn’t get the time you deserved with her. It doesn’t mean it ended badly. You loved her and she knew it. She wants you to be happy again, whether it’s me or somebody else.”
“See? That’s the shit that tells me...it tells me to keep falling for you. I’m so sorry for how I acted tonight.”
“I lied about my dad and not a little white one either,” you said with a nod. You turned away and felt his hand on your cheek. “So much of what I told you was a lie.”
“You don’t have to tell me the truth right now, Y/N.” He stroked your cheek and you glanced over, meeting his soft green eyes.
“My mom died giving birth to me,” you said, Jensen nodding. “He hated me for it. Hated me. He would hurt me when I was a toddler. When I was four he started doing...other things.”
“Four?” he breathed out.
“I didn’t know it wasn’t normal. Not until I started school. I was scared though so I never said anything. One of my friends mom’s realized what was going on when I was over playing one day. He went away and lost custody. I went into foster care briefly and got adopted when I was eight. Single mom who’d lost her husband young. That’s my mom. She was a kind person. Ray was always good to her and to me. But I asked him not to adopt me after she was gone and he knew it was because I was still scared of a dad again. Being a nanny, I’ve met fathers that look at me and I just know what was going through their head. I reported him and kinda fucked up their family situation but-”
“That was the right thing to do,” he said.
“I know it was. I’ve just...I’ve had more than one guy and even a woman walk in on me changing or into my bathroom and it’s like, she’s just the help, nobody cares. They don’t touch so it’s like...what can I even do? Then my house before this one, the guy tried getting in my shower with me and I shoved him and he broke his arm and I just don’t understand why so many people think I’m just a piece of meat. Even my ex never got why it bothered me so much. They didn’t touch me so what was wrong with it? He just didn’t get it. He would get mad if I wasn’t in the mood for sex. Nobody ever fucking gets it except you who I lied to and pissed off tonight and without a word of an explanation why, you say you won’t let somebody hurt me. Do you get why you’re the opposite of fucking settling Jensen?”
“I won’t hurt you.”
“I know you won’t Jensen.”
“How?”
“Because you’re a good person. You’re so gentle and kind. I know you’re strong and tough but I see it everyday. You should never be worried about how your kids will turn out. If they are half as good as you are they’ll be fucking great people. Your daughters aren’t gonna put up with shit and your son is gonna be kind to everyone and say fuck you to the toxic guys out there. I can already tell the kind of person you are through them and it’s a good one. A really good one.”
“I’m not the only good person in their lives,” he said. You sniffled and looked down, Jensen’s hand sliding under your chin and tilting it up. “You don’t have to apologize for not telling me all of that. Never apologize for not telling me that. Okay?”
“I never told anyone about…the other stuff,” you said, wanting to look down but Jensen’s hand holding your chin up.
“You have nothing to be embarrassed about. I’m sorry it took you so long to find people that would protect you.”
“You mean…” He nodded and dropped his hand away, running it over your head. “You’re not gonna like, go back and kick his ass are you?”
“Want me to? I’m very tempted at the moment,” he said.
“I just want to go home. I could use one of those hugs right now.”
“Do you want to stay with me tonight? Just to stay, nothing more.” You nodded and he kissed your forehead, a tiny smile crossing your face. Ten minutes later you were home and the babysitter was gone, Jensen pulling you into his room next to yours. You blew your nose in his bathroom and washed off your face, lifting your head to find a pair of your pajama shorts and one of his shirts on the vanity beside you. He smiled as he ducked out, leaving you to change. You let your hair down and took off your bra before you walked out and saw his blanket on the opposite side of the bed. “Warm enough?”
You spun around as he walked inside and you nodded, Jensen pulling you into a hug.
“I’m sorry for how I was at the bar,” you said.
“I was the one that overreacted, not you,” he said. You felt goosebumps on your arms and he pulled away to turn up the heat, nodding over to the bed. The covers were flung back and you climbed underneath, Jensen getting in on his side. His arm wrapped over your waist and pulled your chest close to his, face only inches away. “You don’t have to worry about him anymore. No one will hurt you again. I promise.”
You moved closer to him, resting your forehead against his.
“Remember last Saturday when we were on the trampoline and you talked about those safety nets,” you said.
“Yes, I do.”
“You’re a really good net,” you said softly.
“So are you,” he murmured. He kissed the tip of your nose and you shut your eyes. “What’d you want to be when you were little?”
“A princess,” you said. He chuckled and you smiled. “I wanted a prince to come take me away and everything would be just fine.”
“Really?”
“Princesses were always happy at the end of the movie,” you said. “They got the boy and they were happy. Then I grew up and prince charming doesn’t exist.”
“Cause you’re not a damsel in distress. You didn’t need the prince to save you.”
“But the prince would have made life so much easier.”
“I’m partial to badass princesses myself,” he said. You opened your eyes and he was smiling.
“I’ve never noticed your freckles before.”
“They come out more when I spend some time in the sun.” You moved a hand up and traced under his eye, Jensen nuzzling into his pillow. “Make you a deal. If the badass princess saves me, the scared prince will save her too.”
“Okay,” you said. You kissed him lazily, Jensen smiling through it.
“Do you want to be a nanny forever?”
“Not forever. It’s an easy way to feel like you have a family when you don’t.”
“Now you do,” he said.
“Jensen you don’t know if this will work out.”
“I do and you do and we’ll take it slow anyways,” he said. “Which is why I’m asking do you want to be a nanny forever.”
“Why?”
“Because maybe someday I won’t need one,” he said.
“I thought about being an elementary school teacher when I was eighteen for a hot second.”
“You did? You’d be amazing.”
“Pay in Texas is crap though. I make more as a nanny.”
“If money wasn’t an issue though, would you want to be a teacher still?”
“Anything at all?” you asked, Jensen nodding, nose brushed against yours. “Stay here. I’ll be right back.”
“You okay?” he asked, reluctantly letting you out of bed.
“I’m good. I want to show you something,” you said. You slipped out of the room and down the hall to the playroom, picking up a book. Jensen was sat up in bed when you returned and crawled under the covers. You handed him the book and he smiled.
“I don’t remember buying this,” he said, flipping it over. “There’s no serial code on it.”
“You can’t buy it. I wrote a children’s book and printed a few copies for myself,” you said.
“You wrote a book?” he asked, flipping through it. “Did you draw this?”
“Yeah,” you said, Jensen staring at you. “I don’t know if it’s any good. I never tried publishing it.”
“You want to write children’s books, don’t you?” he said, starting to read the story.
“I have a number of them written out. I would make up the stories for kids at bedtime and decided to write them down. It’s kinda like whinnie the poo, that age group, you know? Same group of characters but different stories,” you said.
“These are adorable,” he said, turning another page. You were quiet while he read through for a few minutes, Jensen smiling when he shut the book. “I’ve never read a children’s book where they deal with the loss of a parent.”
“The kids really like it,” you said.
“You should publish this. Seriously. It’s cute and I’m a grown ass man and it made me feel better about Dee.”
“It’s just a story,” you said, rubbing the back of your neck.
“I make stories for a living. This whole place would fall apart without stories. This is good. You should consider trying to get it published.”
“Maybe if that nanny job doesn’t work out I will,” you said.
“Do you mind if I keep this?” he asked.
“Not at all. I gave it to JJ in the first place.”
“Thanks. I want to read this to the twins tomorrow,” he said. He set it on the nightstand and slid back down, pulling you with him. “Why’d the mom fox die in the story? I would have expected the dad wolf considering…”
“Wish fulfillment for a nice father,” you said. “Plus I like drawing the wolf.”
“I like him. He’s fluffy,” chuckled Jensen. “Is that why you asked if I carry a picture of my kids when we met?”
“I’m done with asshole parents. If they treat their kids like shit they sure as hell aren’t gonna treat me any better. You seemed like a good guy. Good guys tend to do that kind of thing.”
“I’m not always good.”
“Yeah, you are,” you said. You shut your eyes and nuzzled close to him, Jensen letting out a soft hum. “You okay? With me being here.”
“Very. Feeling better after everything that happened?”
“Mhm,” you said. “I’m still sorry I lied to you.”
“Did you ever lie about your mom?” he asked. “I mean aside from the fact she adopted you, did you lie about her?”
“No.”
“Then you didn’t lie, not really. I’m sorry it came out like that. You should have been able to tell me in your own time.”
“You still would have been angry,” you said.
“I still would have come to my senses too. I’m not perfect. I never was.”
“I don’t want someone perfect,” you said. Your head rested against his chest and you let out a soft sigh.
“Goodnight, Y/N,” he said. He kissed the top of your head and tucked it under his chin, adjusting the blankets once before he stilled.
“Goodnight, Jensen.”

She pushes her cart down the aisle as she browses through the shelves of delicious snacks. She already has picked out a bunch of biscuits and juice boxes when her phone rings, making her jump a bit. She takes out her phone and smiles as the screen showcases the contact name ‘lovie’ with a picture of her husband. She accepts the call as she continues to stroll down the aisle.
“Hi, lovie!” she answers happily. “Hello, darling. Hope everything’s alright there,” Harry answers back. She giggles as she stops by the fruits and vegetables section. “Shouldn’t I be asking you that since you’re the one that’s looking after the house?” She questions about Harry’s intention of calling her. He chuckles through the phone. “Pfft, don’t be silly, love. I got everything under control here,” He says. She imagines how he is probably pouting a bit on the other side of the phone as she playfully rolls her eyes.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever you say, hun. Now, what do you need?” She asks, figuring that Harry has some last minute additions to the grocery. Harry hums and thinks as Y/N picks out some fresh salads. “Could maybe buy more bread for us?” He asks, which confuses Y/N as she thought she has already bought bread for them.
“Harry, didn’t I already buy those, like, two those days ago?” She questions as she starts picking out some fruits. She picks out two packets of strawberries and grapes each and one honeydew melon. She feels as though Harry is hesitating to answer back through the phone. “Yeah, but.. I got hungry so I finished most of them,” He says as though he is embarrassed by admitting this to his wife. Y/N only giggles at this information.
“You and your bread. Any kind that you fancy this time?” She asks as she makes her way to the wet area of the supermarket. “Just the usual ones. Oh, and the whole wheat bread if there’s any,” He requests. Y/N hears the sound of cutleries clanking in the background, though she brushes it off, thinking it is just Harry cleaning the kitchen. “Alright. I’ll see you guys at home, yeah? I’m nearly done here,”
“Of course, darling. Bubs and I will be waiting,” he says, and Y/N smiles at the thought of her little family at home. The couple say their goodbyes and hang up. Y/N makes a note to herself to get some bread after picking out some salmon before checking herself out of the supermarket.
After over a year of marriage, the both of them decided to start a family of their own. It excited her to think about Harry with their own child, knowing very well how good he is with children in general. They were both overjoyed by the news that they will be expecting a baby girl, more so of Harry than herself. He was ecstatic to be a father throughout the pregnancy journey. Even on the occasional dates they would go on, he would always make sure they picked some of the most private areas, paparazzi and fans-free. It was an important time for them and they wanted to keep things on the low most times.
Now, their baby girl Rosie is six months old and is just the purest ball of sunshine and happiness. Harry and Y/N swore that their hearts grew ten times bigger upon first laying their eyes on her baby. Of course after she was born, it was tiring enough for them to handle a baby as they were new to being parents. Though, they managed to get the hang of it after some sleepless nights and cleaning up baby vomit.
All of that which leads up to this moment where Y/N is buying some groceries for the family. Harry suggested they should take little Rosie out for a picnic. Although it was rather difficult to go outside without them getting papped and stalked, they luckily had a backyard that was big enough to have their little picnic together. It was all fenced up with a couple of flowers planted. It was ideally the perfect place to relax and have some family gatherings.
Y/N quickly gets home in time for dinner, not before buying some Chinese food for her and Harry. She unlocks the door and quickly rushes by the living room and into the kitchen to put the heavy bags of groceries down. Harry, who had been folding the laundry and entertaining his daughter, notices his wife and calls out to her. “Hi, honey!” Baby Rosie, who has been laying on a plush little blanket, perks her head up and excitedly babbles after her father’s voice. “Hey, lovie! Give me a minute to put these away!” Y/N yells back at him.
Harry hums and puts away the last of the clean laundry in a basket before laying on his side next to Rosie. He lets his baby grab a hold of his large hand. He watches as Rosie puts his tiny little hand on the center of his palms, smiling widely as she looks at him and babbles about in baby language. It’s not long until Y/N comes in with a bag of Chinese food and some baby food. “C’mon, let’s eat, my loves,” She gently says as she sets the food down on the coffee table. Rosie holds out her arms to her mother; much to her delight, Y/N carries her up and sets her down on her lap.
Y/N multitasks eating her dinner and feeding Rosie throughout dinner time. The faint sounds of a Fleetwood Mac album playing on the vinyl player filling the background. “So, what’s on the menu for tomorrow’s picnic?” He says as takes a bite off his spring roll. Y/N shrugs and wipes the excess baby food off Rosie’s mouth. “Don’t know yet. Maybe I’ll make those smoked salmon sandwiches that you like.”
Harry playfully moans in delight. “You mean, those sandwiches you make are award-winning, darling,” he says, which makes Y/N giggles at her silly husband. “Well, I hope they are, Mr. Styles. Would be shameful if the salmon I bought just went to waste.” Little Rosie eventually finishes her food and decides to play around with her mother’s hair. She stares and strokes on Y/N’s hair, gently tucking it at times. The couple smiles widely at the sight of their daughter. “You doing alright, bubs?” Rosie merely stares at her parents with her big green eyes, not understanding their question. It still amazes Y/N how much of Harry’s features Rosie inherited. “Surely you weren’t a handful with your daddy this evening, were you?” Y/N playfully questions.
Harry chuckles and takes Rosie out of Y/N’s arms. “No, she wasn’t. However, she wasn’t helpful in helping daddy with the laundry, were you princess?” He says as he lifts his baby girl above both of the couple’s heads, eliciting the sweetest laugh from Rosie. He does this a few more times until he stops since he didn’t want her to get dizzy and throw up.
It was a very domestic moment for them. Just the three of them, having dinner, smiles and laughter all around. It is moments like this where Harry prefers the simplicity of life, in the comfort of his little family. “Think it’s time for someone to go to dreamland, don’t ya think?” Y/N says as she caresses Rosie’s soft cheeks with her finger, Rosie obviously showing her tiredness with her droopy eyes. Harry nods in agreement, already packing up to empty food boxes to throw away.
“You wanna go up first, love? Nurse Rosie a bit. I’ll clean this up quickly.” Y/N insists on helping out Harry after he’s taken care of the house while she went to buy groceries. Though, Harry insists back on helping to clean, saying it’s no big deal. Without much of an argument, Y/N lifts up Rosie from his arms and heads up, not before giving Harry a loving kiss of appreciation.
After nursing her, Rosie quickly falls asleep in her mother’s arms, lulling to the faint sounds of her heartbeat as she rests her little head on her chest. Harry soon joins in the room and he stops to admire the sight he has become all too familiar with. Just the sight of the woman he loves, carrying and rocking their baby daughter to sleep, a feeling of warmth and peace fills his entire heart. Sometimes, he can’t believe how lucky he was to have ended up in this position and he always thanks the universe for blessing him a family that he loves with his entire soul.
Rosie gets tucked in her cot, a soft purple blanket covering her. Harry and Y/N go back into their room soon after. Harry lays on his bed with his eyes closed, humming a random tune while Y/N picks out her nightwear, which turns out to only be one of Harry’s T-shirts and underwear. “Can you believe she’s six months old now?” Harry asks out of the blue. Y/N turns around and stands between his legs. He sits up and gently pulls Y/N in by the waist. She runs her hands through his curls, he sighs in delight of the feeling. “Time flies, huh?”
“Soon she’s gonna start walkin’, runnin’, she’ll become quite the troublemaker,” he jokes and pouts at Y/N. She chuckles at his silliness. “It’s nothing we can’t handle, right?” She smiles at him lovingly as she strokes his cheeks. Harry smiles back and puts his head on her stomach, giving it a light kiss through the dress she’s wearing.
“Thank you. I feel like I haven’t said that enough,” he mumbles against her stomach. She looks down at him with a confused expression. “You carried her for a whole nine months and went through so much to deliver her to us. So, thank you. And I love you, darling. I’m so lucky.”
Y/N feels her breath hitched at his confession and she smiles at him. She leans down and kisses him hard. Sometimes, she thinks that she is the lucky one. She managed to find someone who loves and support her unconditionally, even through the late night snacks she had while pregnant with little Rosie. Harry doesn’t hesitate to kiss back and pulls her closer to him. She feels his tongue swipe across her bottom lip, asking for entrance. And who is she to deny making out with her incredibly talented and beautiful husband as she opens her mouth, making the kiss more passionate. Harry hears a soft moan from her and swears he feels shivers running up his spine.
They break away after feeling the oxygen running out of their lungs and lay their foreheads against each other’s, breathing heavily. “I love you, too,” she breathes out. They both smile widely at each other, feeling like teenagers in love. She pecks his lips one last time before pulling away from him. She starts undressing as she makes her way to the ensuite bathroom, Harry watching her every move as his mouth gapes open slightly.
God, my wife is so fucking beautiful, he thinks to himself. He continues to admire Y/N as she undresses until she’s fully nude. He gulps as he feels the blood rushing towards his lower region.
Harry’s cut out from his thoughts as a piece of fabric flungs to his face. He grabs it from his face and he chokes on his saliva upon seeing Y/N laced lavender-coloured underwear. He looks up to his wife leaning against the bathroom door, every inch of her on display for him and him only.
“Mind joining me for a shower, baby?” she smirks as she quickly heads in the shower.
When he hears the shower turn on, Harry jumps up from the bed and quickly takes off his clothes, tripping on his sweatpants on his way to join his wife in the shower.
Rosie giggles loudly and she reaches out for the blue butterfly in front of her. Y/N smiles at this soft moment and holds up her digital camera to take a picture. The sky was a nice shade of blue and clouds looked like cotton candy hanging above. The flowers in the garden were blooming and Harry managed to pick out two sunflowers for his sunflowers. It seemed like the perfect day.
Harry comes out with a bowl of freshly washed strawberries and grapes. He sits down next Y/N on the blanket they laid out, giving a soft kiss on her forehead, before looking over at his daughter. “What’s that, bub?” he asks Rosie in a seemingly excited voice. Rosie squeals and babbles to her father as she points out to the blue butterfly fluttering in front of her.
“That’s right, bubs! That's a butterfly!” Harry picks her up and puts her on his lap. Y/N is already munching away on the strawberries. Harry opens his mouth to her, implying that he wants to be fed with the red fruits, Y/N rolls her eyes at his silliness but complies as she puts it in his mouth, plucking out the stem. As she does this, little Rosie looks at the exchange and opens her mouth wide, copying Harry. The couple merely laughed at the little girl’s behaviour.
“You want a strawberry, Rosie?” Y/N smiles as picks one out, she bites lightly on the tip of it so Rosie could have the smallest bite of the fruit. Rosie whines and reaches out for the tiny piece. “Calm down, you bugger. Might wanna say ‘please’ to mommy first, yea?” Harry says to her gently as he rubs her back.
Of course, Rosie wouldn’t know how to say any words at all yet, so she babbles in her baby language and whines to be fed. “Think that might be ‘please’, love,” he says jokingly to his Y/N.
“Well, who am I to say no to the cutest girl ever?” She jokes back and puts the tiny piece of strawberry in Rosie’s mouth, her mouth slightly stained from the juices. Harry wipes it off with a napkin and leans back on his arms, admiring the beautiful day outside. He takes in the clean summer air as he listens to his daughter babbling about to her mother, Y/N merely nods back as if she understands and talks in the most gentle voice to her.
Harry sees Rosie picking up the large sunflower he picked out, her little fingers brushing against the yellow petals. He takes a look at Y/N and as he sees her smile, he thinks back about how lucky he is to have them two. There is not a day where Harry was never in awe of the love and passion Y/N gives to the family and he thinks of how he couldn’t possibly love his Rosie more every day.
He breaks off the other sunflower from its stem and tucks it behind Y/N’s ear. She looks up and blushes at the gesture.  “You okay, H?” she asks.
Harry nods and smiles at her. “I just really love you,” he says as he cups Y/N’s cheek, stroking it gently.
Y/N feels the heat rising up to her cheeks. There is not a day where she’ll ever stop being in love with the man in front of her. She holds the hand that’s resting on her cheek and kisses it softly. “I really love you too,”
She leans forward and gives him a kiss or two. They both smile widely at each other, radiating the same amount of love, if not more, that they have for each other. Rosie squeals and claps her chubby hands together as she watches the sweet exchange between her parents. They both laugh at her cuteness. “And we love you too, my little love!” Y/N exclaims to her as she cups her cheeks and plants many kisses all over her face, making Rosie squeal in delight. Harry laughs and smiles at the sight.
Life certainly feels good to him. Surrounded by the loves of his life, there’s no place or moment Harry would exchange this beautiful day with them.

Prompt idea: the turtles with a friend or s/o that sleep walks.
Turtles with and S/o that sleepwalks
———-
So I based this off how my cousin sleep walks hope you don’t mind :)
Raph:
-home boy freaked out the first time he saw you sleepwalk
-he was up at night getting some cake but when he saw you walking by HO HO BOY did he jump out of his skin
-no one else was awake and you practically materialized out of the shadows!
-he eventually calmed down enough to realize that you weren’t awake
-I mean, it wasn’t exactly obvious
-you sort of walked around aimlessly a while mumbling
-that wasn’t really something sleeping people did..
-“babe, what’re you doin’ up? It’s 1 in the morning!”
-“I gotta put the salami CD’s in the chicken coop”
-“umm.. what?”
-once it finally clicked he didn’t exactly know what he should do
-was it a myth that you weren’t supposed to wake up a sleepwalking person?
-was there some sort of side affect?
-instead of intervening he just sort of sat at the table and watched
-he didn’t want to accidentally do something wrong but he also didn’t want you to get hurt
-he found himself getting up a couple of times when he thought you were gonna run into a table, moving it out of the way at lightning speed
-Other than that you were fine
-you simply walked back into your room and shut the light off
-he asked about it the next morning and you told him you sleep walk if you’re really tired
-and, sadly, being in highschool meant that you were tired all the time
-apparently you’d done it since you were little and you were used to it by now
-Raph didnt exactly know what he should do about it
-you told him you were fine and that he should leave you be, but he didn’t want anything to happen to you
-he decided the best course of action was to help behind the scenes
-that meant making sure you didn’t stay up late
-if you slept walked when you were really tired then he’d stop you from that state of feeling
-he had an alarm set for when he’d start hinting that it was bedtime
-he’s unplug the WiFi if you didn’t get the message (subtly of course) and then he’d turn around and tell you that the WiFi always got spotty when it was late
-he’d even stay up a little later to see if you were going to sleep walk
-if not then he’d head straight to bed
-but sometimes you still did it
-he’d found the best option was to just pick you up and place you back in your room
-“but the salami CD’s...”
-“they’ll still be there in the morning.”
-he’d pull you close to him and let you snuggle in close, the two of you sitting on your
-he always left before you woke up though
-yet you knew he had been there
-it was hard not to know when you woke up with a huge dip in the other side of your bed
-the two of you had a system and it worked
Donnie:
-Donnies already up and working by the time you start walking around
-the thing is, he didn’t realize you weren’t awake for probably an hour
-you were just walking from room to room and occasionally picking things up
-he was used to you being up late in his defense
-but when you ignored him or started mumbling... yeah that ripped him off
-“babe can you pass me the screwdriver?”
-“no, the radishes aren’t condensed.”
-“...I’m sorry?”
“Radishes.”
“Are you even awake?”
“I gotta go condense the radishes before Mikey finds out.”
-this boy was educated on the sleepwalking in a matter of seconds via research
-he knew you needed the rest so he never woke you up
-instead, he would find wherever you were walking around and have you stay in his room while he worked
-you never broke anything and it was nice to not be alone in a way
-besides your sleepwalking never lasted for long
-often it ended with you wandering over to him and slumping against his shoulder
-that meant he got to hold you while the night was quiet and peaceful
-the next morning you always woke back up in your own bed
-Donnie denied that he ever had anything to do with your sleepwalking
-but all you had to do was test it out to find the truth
-you walked into his room without a word one night and he didn’t even seem surprised
-“you good babe?”
-you chose not to say anything, you just kept walking
-“how are those condensed radishes doing?”
-you didn’t know what that meant but you assumed it was something you said in your sleep
-“you’re awfully quiet tonight. Usually you don’t stop talking.”
-you sit down beside him and place your head on his shoulder
-boy doesn’t even hesitate in pulling you closer and going back to work
-you don’t bother telling him that you know
-it’s nice to have someone looking out for you
Leo:
-oh he found out the first time you slept walked
-even brought it up casually the next morning
-he has insomnia so anything that happens after hours he’s already aware of it
-for the first few nights it was him joking about the cause being something supernatural
-he stopped when he thought you were getting offended though
-he diiiiid however say you were the sleep to his insomnia
-he can’t sleep at night and nothing can wake you up!
-you two balance each other out!
-and believe me, he has TRIED to wake you up to no avail
-doesn’t matter if it’s a loud noise or shaking your shoulder, nothing will wake you up
-unfortunately, since he’s always awake, he gets to see everything you do while wandering around
-AND he gets to see it while recording
-he’s got videos and videos of the random nonsense that comes out of your mouth
-and if he ever finds you cleaning in your sleep heaven knows he’s gonna find a way for you to take care of some of his chores to
-“come on, babe! You were already folding clothes! What’s a few extra?”
-he does find himself having to emergency portal you at times
-like the time you nearly walked off the skate ramp
-he portalled you into his arms as quick as he could
-“who decides to put a skate ramp right where people can fall down it?” He’s mumbling as he carries you back to his room
-having you there helps his insomnia very much
-in a way you’re both helping each other
Mikey:
-took the longest time to realize you sleepwalk
-if took him a whole two months
-usually you stayed in your own room
-he only realized when you walked into his room started picking up his art supplies while he was painting
-usually when he was painting you would plop down beside him and ask him questions (all during the day)
-but now you were picking up brushes and mumbling about how you needed to save the tomato’s before the bear ate them all
-poor baby ran to Donnie, thinking you were sick or delusional
-his older brother casually explained that it’s probably just sleep walking and he calmed down
-he was a little freaked out but grew used to it after a couple more night of it
-doesn’t really understand why you sometimes do normal things in your sleep like cleaning or fixing a sandwich
-still finds himself helping you out though
-he’ll be right next to you, folding clothes or passing you the mayo
-recently he found out he can ask you questions and get pretty funny answers
-“do you prefer hot dogs, hamburgers, or pizza?”
-“soggy bread.”
-“That doesn’t sound very appetizing.”
-always keeps you updated the next morning
-it embarrassed you to no end
-he didn’t need to hear all that stuff!
-one night he asked a less casual question
-“so how do you feel about Mikey?”
-“I would eat a thousand soggy breads for Mikey if he asked.”
-“r-really?”
-“of course. I love him!”
-that was the first time you openly said you loved him
-honestly his heart stopped for a few seconds
-he brought it up that next morning and no, you wouldn’t eat a thousand soggy breads if he asked
-but yes, you loved him to pieces

Summary: just Grandma Yumie being the greatest wingwoman there ever was
Pairing: Kita Shinsuke x fem!reader
Word count: 1.08k
Genre: fluff, the usual
Tumblr media
You sigh at the screen before you, having been sat at the patio of your favorite café for almost two hours now. Starting your work at seven in the morning, you brought yourself outside a few hours later hoping that a new environment would stimulate motivation to finish your work due in the next couple of days. The fresh breeze is nice and the ambient noise of life ever so lulling, but anything is far more interesting than the assignments in front of you.
Such as the grandma before you scuttling stiffly to fix an imbalanced table tilting back and forth with just the smallest bit of pressure.
“Grandma, do you want to sit here?” You call, standing up with the intention of helping the older woman out. “My table is stable. I don’t mind moving.”
“Oh no,” She smiles through huffs until she successfully places a napkin underneath the shorter leg. She gives the table a small push, a satisfied grin upon her face when it obediently stays put. “I’ve got it.”
At that, you can’t help but smile at the woman whose age is probably older than she looks as you sit back down. Even through her rigid movements, it is obvious she is self sufficient, even if stubbornly so.
Staring back at the screen before you, your fingers hover above the keyboard having lost your sense of thought due to your distraction.
“Thank you for offering.” The older lady calls to you again. You look up to find her, a vision of mirth through closed lids. “That was very kind of you.”
A warm expression, “Of course!”
“I may be an old woman, but I still can do things on my own.” There’s fondness in your chest as she continues the conversation with you. Her words may be strung together slowly, but you’re astounded by the way she creates human connection so easily. Where people your age are consumed by their own selfish needs, protected in a bubble they’ve surrounded themselves in, this stranger easily concocts conversation like she’s known you for so many years. You think the candidness is nice for once.
Grandma takes a sip of her water before continuing. “My grandson has been awfully protective over me lately. He won’t let me do anything.”
You laugh at the way her face scrunches at the last sentence as though her grandson has been the bane of her existence. “My legs were feeling a little tense so I went for a walk the other day. Just a small one to the farmer’s market nearby.”
Now you’re absolutely entranced by the seemingly frivolous story, mindlessly picking at the egg sandwich you ordered hours ago.
“I went and looked around. I found some cabbage that looked nice. And then I stopped at a stall selling okonomiyaki. It smelled so good I had to try some.”
You’re nodding your head, fascinated by the woman’s mundane retelling. The little snippet into her lifestyle reminds you of how large the world is and small at the same time. Though you’ve never met her, and though she is years older than you, you relate to the need of hers to stop at a stall filled with the smell of savory foods.
“Then I get a phone call from my Shin-chan,” Frown lines appear when she says the name with a shake of the head, though you can tell she’s also slightly amused at the thought. “He was not yelling at me, but I could tell he was frustrated. He was asking me where I was. He told me it was ten in the morning and that I needed to get home before it got too hot! He thinks I can’t do anything on my own!”
Grandma is shaking her head furiously, but you’re amused all the same.
“I’m the same way Grandma!” You laugh with a piece of bread on your mouth. “I’m just like that with my mom myself.”
Grandma just shakes her head, indignant. “We’re independent.”
Yes, stubbornly so, you agree in your head before saying, “Of course, Grandma, but it comes from a good place. We just care about you is all.”
Grandma raises a withered hand, the most certain movement of hers you’ve seen yet. “Yes, yes, I know.”
The door of the cafe opens and a broad male figure obscures your view of the older woman as he sets a plate in front of her.
“Sorry, Grandma,” You hear him say, a soft, tender tone escaping him. “They didn’t have any fruit tarts so I hope strawberry shortcake is okay.”
“Oh yes. I was just talking to this nice lady, Shin-chan.”
Said Shin-chan turns around and then gives you an apologetic look. Suddenly, you’re feeling nervous at the sight of the subject of your conversation of the last couple minutes, surprised by the fact that he is more handsome than you imagined.
“Thank you for keeping her company,” He says. You find yourself at a lack of words, gulping and nodding at the same time.
“Ah, Shin-chan,” Grandma’s voice is playfully irritated, “Move to the side. I want to keep talking to the pretty lady.”
It’s then that heat permeates your cheeks, awkwardly letting out a nervous giggle that makes the grandson give his grandmother a quiet, scolding look.
“Grandma,” he starts, but takes the seat next to her anyways to get out of her view, “She’s probably busy. Let’s not bother her.”
“Oh no!” You interject happily, “Your grandma’s actually really interesting. I was having a good time.”
You’re being honest and it’s not because you’re looking for a distraction, or because her grandson is kind of hot. Okay, admittedly, his handsome features were some sort of factor in wanting to continue the exchange.
There’s a mischievous glint in his grandmother’s eyes. She clasps her hands together and the smile across her face tilts lopsidedly into a smirk. “Oh? Would you like to go with me to the farmer’s market then?”
Her head tilts to her grandson, “Since my Shin-chan won’t let me go alone?”
“Uh,” You laugh nervously, eyes flitting between the pair, appraising both reactions. The older woman looks satisfied while the other provides an amused look that is very similar to his relative’s.
“If you go,” He starts, “I guess I will come along too.”
Your heart beats quickly, but your hand is already finding itself closing your laptop. Yes, anything is far more interesting than your assignment. Especially if it’s the handsome, golden eyed boy and his good naturedly stubborn grandma before you.

Previous Part || Shut In Masterlist
“Hey, I’m just going to step out for today.” You looked up from the doodle you were making on the corner of the paper. “Catch you later? Just find me if you need anything.”
“You okay?” You automatically sat up straighter, blanket creasing under you. Something was amiss in his body language.
“Yeah, just-” He seemed like he was struggling for words. “-Brooklyn.”
You didn’t get what he was making a reference to until it suddenly dawned on you.
It was the codeword he had suggested right at the beginning of your time in the house. If he was in danger you were sure he’d tell you, at least an inkling of information.
But no, this was for some time alone, further confirmed by the distant look in his eyes.
“Oh.” You blinked. “Take all the time you need. I’ll be here if you need.”
He gave you a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes, turning around and leaving the room.
You were left staring after him, the drawing you were making of the house layout discarded on the bed. You were working on strategies, vantage points- anything that could help in case something went wrong.
Was it because of the dumb ‘moment’ you had shared two days ago? It didn’t seem like it because he hadn’t brought it up at all and God knows you would never. Was it something else that had happened, something you did?
Stop overthinking. He probably just needs a day to himself.
You had spent almost a month in each other’s company and he had never once complained. He had a tendency to be petty about minor inconveniences, like you trying to watch a movie when his favourite segment on the local news channel was going on. He liked the cooking show they hosted.
He had never made it a point to specifically tell you that he needed some time to himself, much less use the word.
“Get yourself together,” you whispered to yourself, shaking off the nagging feeling you had.
If he had an issue, he would have voiced it. He never shied away from doing that before and you knew he wouldn’t start now.
You forced yourself to think about something else, grabbing the copy of American Gods you had already gone over once before but were subjecting to a reread. Opening the page you had last left it at, you were determined to distract yourself.
Nearly twenty minutes later and exactly zero pages since you had started, you realised that no matter how much you forced yourself to get into it, you went over the same line over and over again, not a single word registering in your head.
“Motherfucker,” you groaned, letting the book fall on your face. You took a long look outside the window, mind drifting.
It was a nice day out. Maybe some sun would help.
You lifted your legs off the bed, taking your book with you to the kitchen. You could get a nice sandwich-- the same as the last three fuckin’ weeks but you digressed-- a glass of water, and you could sit outside for a while. A mini picnic.
You opened a new packet of sliced bread, taking two out before stopping. You pondered over whether you should make him a sandwich for when he returned, knowing that he didn’t eat lunch before he left.
You thought about it for a good minute before rolling your eyes, pulling out two additional slices to make him one as well. It was just a sandwich. It wasn’t a big deal.
Tucking your book under your arm, you carried your lunch and a glass of water to the patio around the back.
The wind rustled the leaves and the sun wasn’t harsh. The low buzz of insects was the only sound that kept you company.
The air was crisp and you instantly felt better than you had all day in the room.
Setting your stuff down on the bench, you sat down, inhaling deeply.
The book suddenly didn’t seem so impossible to complete as you tried once more, slipping into the pages easily. Even after you finished your food, you continued to lounge about there, too engrossed and content to move.
You didn’t notice the afternoon go by, evening coming and going just as swiftly. You swatted at the occasional fly but nothing else bothered you.
It felt like summer break. At least what you thought it would feel like. You never had one, being homeschooled about things from various people in the organization. There wasn’t a singular, long break. You were just forced to adapt.
You didn't know how to deal with the suffocating realisation of knowing there were so many things you missed out on. It grew the longer you spent time away. You just shoved it away, forcing yourself to deal with it another day.
He comes back when the sky is slipping into shades of orange, a backpack on his shoulder. There was a patch of sweat around his neck and his head was hung low as he walked.
“Hey,” you hoped it didn't look like you were waiting for him. It could easily be taken as you camping out there, waiting for your husband to return from a hard day in the fields.
Sam looked up at your greeting. You noted that the bruise on his nose was starting to change colour but the swelling had reduced from how bad it used to be.
“Left you a sandwich on the counter if you’re hungry,” you added. He nodded in acknowledgement, making his way up the stairs and into the house without another word.
You let out an exhale, feeling a little better knowing that he was at least back in one piece. No reason to believe otherwise other than the anxiety you had developed over imagining the worst case scenarios.
You picked up your book again, intending to finish off the last bit before you went back inside for the day.
About half an hour later Sam re-emerged from the house, your attention snapping to him as the door opened and shut. He had changed into a new pair of clothes, looking a little cleaner like he was fresh outta the shower. He had a sandwich in his hand that he had already taken a few bites out of. You wondered if it was the one you left for him.
You didn’t expect him to take a seat next to you on the bench. He didn’t look at you or open his mouth to talk so you followed suit. You continued reading, or at least tried to, as he just sat there, finishing his sandwich without any kind of other interaction.
There was a strange tension he wasn’t addressing. He instead leaned back, arms crossed behind his neck to support his neck and closed his eyes. His foot tapped against the wooden floor and rather than getting annoyed, you found solace in the repetition.
“They recruited me on this day,” Sam said to no one in particular. His eyes were still closed and his feet still tapped against the ground. “Parents died when I was a kid, I got shifted around orphanages and homes a lot. Finally Ransone had someone pick me up.”
You closed your book softly, setting it down beside you. That’s what was bothering him.
Secret adoption is what they called it officially in the business, but around the organization it was just known as the recruitment process. Every record of Sam being alive would have been destroyed to maintain anonymity.
To the world he just… disappeared.
It was a day that clearly brought with it so much pain. You were too young to remember when you joined, and no one had kept track either. You supposed it was for the good.
It was supposed to be a happy day, one filled with new beginnings. Maybe that’s what he would have thought when he got picked. It’s what you did.
“I’m sorry,” you said, not having anything else to offer. You relieved your memories everyday in your head. Having a morbid anniversary of sorts would no doubt drain the life out of you; remembering one singular day that would trigger the rest of the decisions you made in your life.
He didn’t say anything in return. You turned your attention to the sky, finding it easier to look at that than the disturbed look on his face.
“Do you regret this?” he asked out of the blue.
“All of it,” you replied, without skipping a beat.
“Every single one, huh?” Sam’s one eye opened to peer at you.
“It wasn’t up to me to take someone’s life away.” You were just a child. You knew nothing other than what you were taught; so then why was it so fucking hard to forgive your past self for straying into this. “Even once I realised that I couldn’t leave.”
You didn’t form any relationships while you worked with Ransone. Whoever you did allow yourself to care for ended up dead or worse, sometimes as a cruel lesson to not make friends in the organization you worked in because all they served as were distractions and liabilities. Others were plain scum; people who you knew were using you but you didn’t care. The loneliness hurt worse.
“What about you?”
“I’d give anything to go back and change things,” he admitted. He didn’t have a say either. It didn’t make things easier.
“You regret all of ‘em too?”
“Mostly,” he said. “One of them I don’t.”
“That one must have deserved it then,” you deduced. It was the only logical explanation you could think of; the worst of the worst.
“Nah. I let him go.”
It took a while to register what he said.
“What?” You twisted your body to look at him.
“First mission I ever did.”
His hands were shaking lightly, barely holding on to the gun. This wasn’t what he was taught. Stay calm. Stay calm. Stay calm.
He had already managed to get his way into the house through the back. His partner had taken care of most of it and Sam only had to knock people out. He hadn’t had to kill anyone yet.
But now his partner was injured outside the door. Quick shot to the leg, a punch in the face and he was out cold. Sam was already in the master bedroom by the time it happened. He had no idea about where his partner was, only the crippling fear of being left alone and the nerves from the threat posed to him if this didn’t go right.
He knew he didn’t have enough time. He had only a few minutes to kill him and get out of there before his family returned.
The man itself was sitting at the study table, his back towards Sam. Just pull the trigger and get out of here. It was deadly silent.
“I know you’re here to kill me,” the man said suddenly. Sam nearly jumped but instead tightened the grip on the gun.
“Stay where you are.” He sounded confident.
“I’m not planning on going anywhere.” His chair swiveled around, letting him face Sam. His hair was white with a beard that matched. He was dressed down in his pajamas, a robe covering him. He didn’t look nervous.
“Stop talking.”
“You’re younger than what I expected,” the man observed, not paying heed to what Sam was in. He was a considerable distance away. “You’re not even legal yet, are you? I got kids, I would know.”
Sam didn’t say a word, only lifted his gun up to align with his forehead. “I said, stop talking.”
“I’ve made mistakes. Several, actually,” he mused, “It’s why your boss sent you here. I’ve accepted my fate.”
“Then it should be easy.”
“Oh, it never is,” the man chuckled. “It doesn’t get lighter. You learn to ignore it but it’ll weigh on you for the rest of your life.”
Sam’s jaw clenched. It would get easier. It had to.
“I doubt that’s what you heard, however,” he continued. “Ransone’s a bit… unstable. It’s in his blood, but you- you don’t look like you could live with it.”
Ransone’s history was well known enough that rival gang leaders knew it too, apparently. The man would have been delighted at his infamous reputation.
Just shoot him. Just shoot him and end this.
“What’s your name?” the man asked, taking a sip from the tumbler he had in his hand. “You’re going to be the last person I talk to. It’d be nice to have a name.”
“Sam,” he whispered, inwardly cursing himself.
“Sam. That’s a strong name,” the man said, clicking the roof of his mouth with his tongue. “Are you sure this is what you want to do, Sam?”
It wasn’t.
“I don’t have a choice.” He hated how defeated he sounded. It was a weakness.
“They want you to believe that. It takes away your freedom. I would know, I’ve used it.” The man smiled, setting down his glass. “I’ll tell you this though, Sam. You always have a choice.”
“Stop talking, man.” Sam pulled the safety off.
“Once you go down this way, there’s no way you can escape. Someone will always have to die; either him or you.”
“That’s not true.” He could leave at any time. He just needed-
“You’ll see for yourself.” The man leaned back on his chair, resigned. “But for now, go ahead. I’ll make it easy for you.”
He simply closed his eyes and sat back.
You waited for Sam to continue.
“Couldn’t do it,” he said, shaking his head lightly. “Son of a bitch got in my head and I knew what he was doing too. Told him to get the fuck out before my partner shot him in the face.”
“Does Ransone know?” You were still reeling from the incident he recounted. You didn't know what else to say.
“Holds it over me every damn day,” he scoffed. “Some fucked up way of saying that I owe him one.”
To be frank, you were surprised Sam was still alive to tell you. Everyone knew that Ransone forgiven the first mistake someone made, but this was huge. If it were anyone else, he would have had someone try out a hundred different ways to push Sam to the brink of death and back; having him begging for the release that death would bring.
“He hasn’t ever cashed in that favour?”
“He did. Had me take out the leader of the Ten Rings after that.”
“So then why did you still continue?”
“I did something extremely dangerous a couple of years ago that he found out about recently. Used that to get me to come for this mission.”
He didn’t elaborate what he meant and you didn’t ask him to. You supposed it was a story for another day. This was heavy enough.
“He wants to get rid of me as much as I want to get away from him, trust me. We’re the weird, toxic relationship those self-help Instagram pages warned you about.” Trust Sam to make a dumb joke during a conversation like this. “Probably the only time someone from the gang let their target go and not died.”
That wasn’t as true as he thought he was but you didn’t want to seem like you were one-upping him. You didn’t want him to think you were making this about you.
“You remember the big break you were talking about?” you tread carefully, gauging his reaction before you continued. “The one that pushed me up the ranks or whatever.”
He gave a small hum of acknowledgement, bringing his hands from behind his head to fold across his chest.
“Similar story, ‘cept Ransone doesn’t know.”
“What?” His eyes shot open. “How?”
“I was so tired of him treating me like a child. Everyone around who joined after me was out there doinghardcore missions and I was stuck with petty shit.” You didn’t know any better. You wished you had. “So he told me if I made it through this one, he’d send me on more.”
This wasn’t your first mission. You had handled hits before, mostly in the shadows, from a distance.
This was different. It was broad daylight, waiting behind a wall near the gated entrance of the house for a car to pull up.
A challenge, Ransone had posed, with strict instructions to do it in broad daylight. If you got out of this undetected, he’d consider sending you on more sophisticated missions.
“Highly stealthy. They’re dangerous,” you were warned. “You won’t know what hit you if you’re caught off your game.”
The low rumble of the car outside the gate alerted you of your target’s arrival. The gates weren’t going to open, the guards were dead.
The car stopped, waiting for the path to open up. When it didn’t the car’s engine slowed to a stop. The man in the driver’s seat got out to open the gate, giving you a clear shot.
You took a deep breath, clenching your eyes shut for a second before taking aim.
The body hit the gravel and you quickly made your way to the car. You could see the woman in the backseat gaping at where the man was standing a few seconds ago. She was struggling against the door, trying to escape.
She finally succeeded, the door opening suddenly as she stumbled over herself trying to get out.
“Stay there,” you commanded. She slowly looked up at you, face white as a sheet.
“Please,” she croaked. “Don’t hurt us.”
“I’m sorry.” You truly were.
Her face changed, dropping the facade immediately. She just looked on in acceptance, not making an effort to move. Manipulative. She almost had you convinced
You held the gun over her, pulling the trigger. A single shot. Her body slumped over.
You stared at her in silence, expressionless. You let out an exhale, tucking the gun back into the waist of your pants, stepping over her body to leave.
A small, staggering breath made you stop in your tracks. It was so slight you barely heard it. You took a step back, trying to trace where it came from.
You ducked your head to peer into the car, your heart stopping. Your hand instinctively reached for your weapon.
“What the-” you muttered, facing a boy who looked only a few years younger than you. He was staring straight ahead, muscles in his jaw tight.
The son wasn’t supposed to be here. He was supposed to be abroad, according to the case file. Unless there were two of them you didn’t know about, this boy wasn’t supposed to be here.
“Listen,” you began, but he didn’t look at you. Just stared straight ahead, body trembling. He was scared. He didn’t show it.
“Show no mercy,” Ransone’s voice rang in your head.
“He’s a child,” you murmured to yourself. Your gun felt heavy in your hand.
Show no mercy.
You could only imagine what would be in store for you if you returned to Ransone with some tale of sympathy. This boy was only a few years younger than you. He didn’t have anything to do with this.
Show no mercy.
“Kid,” you called out. He slowly turned his head. “Go on. Get out of here.”
“What?” he asked, voice hoarse.
“Leave. You can’t be seen if someone comes back,” you urged. “I won’t be able to help you.”
“You killed my mom,” he jeered, unmoving.
“I’m sorry. I had to.” Your voice was quiet. Your hand clutched at the hood of the car to keep your balance. “But I don’t want to hurt you. Go.”
When he didn’t shift, you slammed the hood of the car, scaring him enough to pull at the door and stagger out of the car.
You turned your back to him, not waiting to see where he was going. The more deniability you had, the better.
“Did he make it?”
“He did,” you divulged the information you had found out a while ago. It was a messy confrontation to say the least but you got out unscathed.
“And Ransone doesn’t know.”
“There’s no record of this kid. He thinks he was at boarding school.” You shrugged. “Wasn’t going to correct him either.”
“If he did find out-” Sam trailed off.
“I’d be dead,” you concluded. “Being his favourite wouldn’t matter.”
“Why was it such a big deal, this mission?”
“She was a part of a major gang that Ransone was losing to.”
Sam just nodded knowingly, looking ahead again. You knew he’d done missions like this as well. Things like this were common so it didn’t need further elaboration.
“This job sucks,” he let out.
You gave a short laugh. That was an understatement.
“I want out. Can’t keep doin’ this for much longer,” he continued, however, to your surprise. “Don’t wanna keep doin’ this.”
You bit your lip, eyebrows knitted in concern. “You will.”
“How?” You hadn’t seen him like this before, this hint of desperation in his tone that left as quickly as it came. “I’ve tried, everything just comes up short.”
“I’ll help you.” You wanted to, God you did.
“You gonna kill him for me?” He looked at you. “‘Cause that’s really the only way out of this.”
If you were pushed to the limit, if he was on his knees in front of you and there was a gun in your hand pointed at him; would you be able to pull the trigger? Would you be able to kill the only constant you’d had for more than half your life?
“I can’t,” you muttered, dejection making its way into your thoughts.
“I know,” Sam said softly, “I wouldn’t ask you to either.”
You took a moment to observe him. The sun did him good. There was a soft glow to his skin, the colours of the sunset dancing in his dark eyes. Laugh lines were becoming more prominent around them, only adding to its charm.
He was a good man. He deserved better.
“I’ll find a way,” you sounded determined, “I promise.”
You didn’t say that very often. Your word didn’t mean a lot to people in the business, but it seemed to, to him.
“Thank you.” He appeared taken aback but didn’t show it in his words.
You simply sent him a smile, a reassurance. You knew what you had to do, just weren’t sure how.
He was right. There wasn’t a way out of it other than the one he proposed, but it wasn’t an option. You had to find another.
You would. You’d figure it out.
“It’s Cinnamon, by the way,” he said without any context.
You looked at him in question.
“My embarrassing nickname.” This was not where you saw the conversation heading but you were delighted all of a sudden. “My ma used to call me that all the damn time. Mortifying.”
“Cinnamon and Buttercup.” You didn’t bother hiding the grin that spread across your face. “World’s best assassins.”
“If that name ever leaves this conversation, I’ll know who to murder.”
“You couldn’t even if you tried,” you said playfully, nudging his shoulder.
He shrugged, face relaxed. “T’was worth a shot.”
An unintentional pun you snickered at. You didn’t tease him any further, just filed the name away as a memory. Maybe you’d use it later.
“Have you ever let anyone go after that?” You didn’t want to keep coming back to this conversation but you liked having someone to relate to.
“No.” Sam shook his head. “Didn’t want to test my luck.”
“Me too.” One had been enough. You lived in fear for so long, waiting for someone to pull the plug and tell him what you’d done. That fear only grew everyday, finding a place at the deepest corner of your mind to fester.
“It’s what I meant when I said Serpentine had a motive to want me dead,” Sam said, piquing your interest once more.
“Huh?”
“The man I was supposed to kill- he was their old head. He disappeared after that and no one heard from him but it pissed off everyone, right from Ransone to their stupid gang’s janitor,” he explained, your eyes going wide with every word. “So the irony is, if we’re right, I might have led us into this situation. They’re looking for revenge.”
“Holy shit,” you uttered under your breath.
“I just assumed he died of old age if someone didn’t get to him first. He looked like he was one birthday away from the grave anyway.”
“How are you still alive, Sam?” you asked in wonder.
“I’d do it again.” He laughed, a deep one from his stomach.
He was reckless, clearly. Happily and unashamedly so. And if you continued to hang out with him after this was over, he’d probably get you killed in some stunt or two.
But maybe you’d deal with that if the time came.
He leaned back again, this time no creases on his forehead from stress. He looked at peace.
You sat together in silence. You occasionally stole glances at him as the sun set in front of you, a small smile on your face.
You leaned your head on his shoulder tentatively. You could feel him tilt his head to look at you and you prepared to have him ask you to move.
It never came. Instead, he scooted closer to you, letting you rest against him more comfortably. Your heart skipped a beat; barely but surely.
A realisation quickly hit you, suddenly before consuming you. Your stomach sank.
“Fuck.”

Can i request the RFA baking/cooking with MC? Thanks :)
Hi, thanks for the request and I'm sorry it's late. Ill try my best to get to all the requests! TT Hope you enjoy!
Cooking with the RFA
☆ Yoosung ☆
He enjoys cooking and doing it with you makes it ten times better.
He gets butterflies seeing you in his kitchen, wearing his green apron- and oh gosh he really hopes it doesn't smell, remembering how messy he got it the other day.
You decide to make pasta with a recipe you found online and Yoosung helps you lay all the ingredients down on the counter.
He tries not to make a mess of himself but the kitchen is so freaking small and you're so close to him!
Alright it's fine, he tries to focus his attention on cutting the onions.
He shouldn't be so nervous about this! He'll be cooking with you more often in the future!
The thought of that just makes his heart start to beat more rapidly
In a daze, he doesn't realize the knife slit a thin cut on his skin.
The sudden pain causes him to yelp and you end up turning around to see what's happened,
"Oh my gosh, are you okay Yoosung?"
"Yeah! I'm fine!"
You look at his hand and the blood to come to the conclusion that he needs help.
You bring him to the living room to apply treatments and you end up finishing the pasta alone.
Hey, it was still pretty delicious!
☕️ Jaehee ☕️
She was cuddling with you on the couch with a few of Zen's old DVDs when you both decided you were hungry.
She offers to make you soup and you gladly decide to join her.
Jaehee has everything organized and works at a fast pace.
She's honestly so nervous to have you in her kitchen, it's giving her an adrenaline rush.
She does most of the work while she often asks you for minor help like "Bring me the salt please!"
You've never seen her cook in person before, it's been mostly you bringing her lunch at the office.
A while after she begins to stir the pot, she offers you a spoonful for a taste.
It ends up tasting amazing and you give her soup two thumbs up,
"This tastes amazing. Hey, this kind of feels like we're a married couple!"
"Then we should do this sometime soon again."
You both exchange a smile and get the table set up to dig into some of that delightful soup!
🎤 Zen 🎤
Zen often made the meals, and sometimes you did.
You've never really cooked together before so this was new when Zen returned home early and decided to join making dinner.
There's not much in the fridge, the last time grocery shopping being a few weeks ago.
So you decide to make something simple: Grilled cheese.
It's a quick task, no.
It should have been a quick task.
But you and Zen decide to be 'that' affectionate couple even while putting some cheese between two pieces of bread.
Zen would feed you a few pieces of his bread and you would feed him some of yours.
Your sandwiches definitely come out where there's barely any bread left and the fat chunk of cheese is just sticking out.
Nonetheless, you move the sandwiches onto the pan and start flipping them.
There's not much to do so Zen wraps his arms around your waist as you both wait.
The outcome of your grilled cheese is... well, cheesy.
♛ Jumin ♛
"Mc?"
"Do you mind if I join you?"
"Of course, I don't mind."
Jumin decided to make you pancakes for breakfast and, this time you actually woke up early enough to help him.
He makes the pancakes just as anybody would, yet if there's one thing he does differently, his measurements are perfect.
Perhaps that's how he gets his pancakes to taste so damn good.
Not to mention he's just being a big flirt with you the whole time.
He gives you little kisses and hugs from behind.
If there's something tall on the shelf you cant reach he's definitely gonna get it for you, teasing you in the progress.
At one point both of you are not paying attention because Elizabeth decides to knock the bowl of mixture and neither of you notice till disaster hits the floor. :(
👓 Saeyoung 👓
Saeyoung doesn't cook.
Nor does he want to or have the time to.
He likes washing the dishes, I mean he'd rather do that than cooking.
But recently... he's been thinking of all the reasons he should learn how to.
What if- you get sick and he doesn't know how to make soup?
If you break an arm and his cooking tastes disgusting, he has to order take out everyday it becomes bad for your health?
There's just so many reasons!!!
So you decided to teach him the basics of it.
Oh, if only you knew it would be this hard...
He doesn't follow a single direction on the cookbook,
"Mc look! It says to add sugar, but I think it needs some more salt?" (Proceeds to add more salt)
He also starts a food fight at one point to which you join in on.
At the end of your cooking class, the kitchen is a mess, Vanderwood is gonna be mad, poor boy Saeran wants his ice cream but there's weird goo on the fridge...
At least you both had a hell lot of fun!
♧ V ♧
It's Lucy's birthday, and this year you both decided to make the cake.
All the ingredients... check!
At least a few more hours before Lucy returns with Uncle Saeyoung and Saeran... check!
V's never baked a cake before but he hopes everything will turn out okay...
And it does! The bread turns out... well decent and you both get the decorations ready while the bread cools in the fridge.
After icing the cake, you leave most of the rest to V and the result is pretty amazing.
He decorates little flowers surrounding the words 'Lucy Happy Birthday!' near a small drawing of her.
His artistic skills saved this cake!
"Darling, do you think she'll like this?"
"Yes, In fact I think she'll love it Jihyun!"

An Unwise Interest

Part 10
Previous || M. List || Next
Summary: Of course you love your brother but he can be a bit overly concerned and involved in your personal life. Things only get worse when you find yourself having a little more than “friendly” feelings for one of his best friends.
A/N: I’m sorry it took so long to post life’s been a bit much lately but it’s here now! Ta-da! Love interest revealed, and surprise surprise it’s Jihoon. Im sure you saw it coming but I hope you still enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Balloons are great and all but the set up and cleaning up is a pain, especially for what you have planned. Luckily you’ll only have to worry about one of those.
Deciding to not be completely mean you planned to fill the majority of the balloons with the confetti first and only a few with glitter. You set everything out side by side on Seungcheols bedroom floor. “Okay I’ve got the balloons and confetti but where did I put- Ah the glitter!” You said aloud to yourself with an evil-like grin as you imagine the look on your brother's face when he gets home.
Rather than waiting for Jihoon to get back, you started without him knowing he’d be against taking any part in it and would have to do some convincing. You tried your best to funnel the tiny pieces of paper into as many balloons as you could before inflating them.
Rather than waiting for Jihoon to get back, you started without him knowing he’d be against taking any part in it and would have to do some convincing. You tried your best to funnel the tiny pieces of paper into as many balloons as you could before inflating them.
Once it was time to blow them up you realize where you went wrong. There’s no pump, no helium tank, nothing. You thought to yourself, this is that stupid pre-prank karma isn’t it. All you could do now was pray your lungs make it through.
10 balloons in and there are many regrets going through your mind. Tying the ends is starting to hurt your fingers, bring rubber bands or ribbon next time. Starting to feel a little lightheaded having to blow them up. Gotta remember to get a pump for these things! Some of the confetti keeps slipping out and getting in your mouth. Why does this feel so dan-
There was a loud thud that came from the other room interrupting your thoughts and making you inhale sharply with a balloon still at your lips. Going hand in hand with your last thought the timing was great because now you’re choking and there’s an intruder. Trying your best not to completely panic when you hear footsteps rushing towards you loudly coughing, you look around the room and realize you have nothing to defend yourself with. what a great way to go.
“Are you okay?!?!” Jihoon yelled as he barged into the room, “what happened!”
If you could this is where you would’ve let out a sigh of relief, but no, still choking on paper.
He practically leapt to your side and aggressively patted your back trying to help, which it did a little. When you caught your breath you quickly faced him, “what the hell, who just comes home and immediately starts slamming doors and shit?? I could have died because of you!”
“Are you being serious?” Jihoon stared at you in disbelief, “first off you’re in my home”
“It’s also my brothers.” You stated as a weak argument against him
“Still not yours. And second that wouldn’t have happened if you weren’t doing all of this” he motioned to the mess you’ve made on the floor. “So who’s really at fault here?”
“wow just blame the victim I guess” You folded your arms “I never took you for that type, I’m disappointed Ji”
His jaw dropped, “the v- you?? You're joking right? You’re the victim?” Scoffing at your claim “right and I’m in the nba”
A small laugh fell from your lips before you could catch it, you cleared your throat to hide it “anyways, were you going to help me with this or not?”
“Would I have brought these if I wasn’t?” He held up two plastic balloon pumps “I had a feeling you didn’t have one, and of course. I was right”
You rolled your eyes “yeah alright well let’s get to pumping, I’m tired of almost dying doing it the old fashioned way.”
Sitting on the floor across from you and grabbed a balloon to start with, “no one told you to take it this far, so that's on you” he shrugged
He wasn’t wrong, you were the one that wanted to do all this but it was going to be worth it in the end. At least you hoped it would be. Of course seeing his initial reaction to seeing it all would be fantastic but after that there's no telling what he’ll do.
As you both sat there with balloons starting to pile around you, you started to think about what your real plans for after college were. “Hey Ji, can I ask you a question?”
“Was that not it?” You squint your eyes back at him and he sighed, “go ahead”
“How did you know to decide on being a music major? Like I know you’re really good at all of it but how do you know that’s what you want to do forever?”
He kept his eyes on the balloon in his hand “Because it’s my outlet, my contribution to the world. It doesn’t reach many people as of right now but for those that it does reach it makes them feel something that only music can. Music is like the medicine everyone needs at some point. It makes me feel good to help people in that way and I want to be able to reach and help as many people as possible.” You had watched the way his smile grew as he spoke about his passion but quickly fell as a pink showed over his cheeks when he looked back up to see you watching his expressions.
There was a sudden pop and with that rubber and confetti was everywhere. You jumped slightly at the noise, “oh no!” You giggled “well that’s one less for him to worry about later”
“At least it wasn’t one with glitter in it” he added while dusting the pieces off of his shirt.
“Very true, that stuff never comes off” you agreed “hang on you got some in your hair”
You leaned over to pick off the few pieces that made it up there before realizing he was reaching to get those same pieces. Though instead of the paper it was your hand he grabbed.
(Que the cheesy kdrama music: Duu dudu duu dudu duu)
Your face immediately burned red as you felt a small panic rush over you. “Sorry I just-“ You laughed lightly as you pulled your hand back, “you know what, I could use a snack break” you stood up and raced to the kitchen. Oh god why am I like this? It wasn't even bad! You thought to yourself pretending to look through the cabinets. Did I make it more awkward running in here like that? Shit.
In an attempt to make it better you decided to make both of you a pb&j, but also as a thank you for helping you finish even if there wasn’t much to do. “Grape or strawberry?” You yelled with your head basically still in the fridge. There was no answer “Ji!”
“Strawberry” his response surprised you with him being much closer than you thought. He had joined you in the kitchen and was grabbing the bread from the counter behind you.
“How did you know what I was going to make?” He looked at you with a straight face. You rolled your eyes and took the bread from his hands. “Maybe I was going to use crackers, make mini pb&js.” You finished up and set them on plates at the table across from each other.
He followed behind you, sliding a glass of water to you before taking his seat. It was silent as you both sat there eating before Jihoon spoke up, “so I’m going to guess that you’re still struggling to pick your major.”
“Says who?”
“Not even 10 minutes ago you were asking how I picked mine.” He pointed out as he picked up his sandwich.
“Well what if I just wanted to get to know you better, make small talk you know?” Trying to defend yourself.
“Okay so then what did you decide on?” He questioned.
“I haven’t.” You responded sounding defeated “what if I do pick and then change my mind then I would have wasted so much time and money for nothing”
He rolled his eyes, taking another bite. “Just don’t think of it like that, think of it as broadening your horizons, explore your options. What do you enjoy doing?”
“Being with my friends? I don’t know”
“Fine, what are you good at?” He waited for an answer as you just stared back with a blank face. “Seriously? How about a planner like for parties and stuff?”
“Me? Plan things? I can’t do that” you laughed at the thought of it.
Completely at a loss for words he gets up and motions for you to follow. You do while bringing what’s left of your sandwich. He led you straight back to your brother's doorway and stood with his arms crossed. “Did you not plan this?”
“This is different. It’s a prank, not a party” you tried explaining, “this is something simple. But we should hurry and finish because he should be home soon.”
He rolled his eyes at you trying to change the subject, “yeah alright but at least think about it. It doesn’t hurt to explore all your options.” he sat on the floor and picked up another balloon. “Especially when you have no idea what you’re doing with your life.”
You scoffed and tossed a handful of deflated balloons at him “I’m sorry, is that judgement I hear?” he looked up at you with raised brows. “At least I’m trying to have fun and enjoy my life instead of staying locked away in my room.”
“I do not stay locked in my room.” He tried defending himself
“Oh my bad, locked away in the studio.” you correct yourself.
He then threw some balloons your way, “I go out and do things. I can have fun and enjoy life”
You took that as a challenge and picked up some confetti and held it in your fist, “you sure about that?”
“Y/n, what are you doing?” he put a hand up as a barrier questioning you.
“What? Are you scared?” you pulled your arm back preparing for launch.
“I just can't tell what you're throwing at me.”
“Let's find out then” as soon as you threw the paper he reached for the glitter and was ready to throw some back. “Wait wait!” you tried reaching to stop him but it was too late, it was everywhere. He was bent over with laughter as you sat there covered in glitter glaring at him. You picked up another container and sprinkled it over him, letting it fall everywhere.
His laughing slowed as he froze when he saw sparkles coming from him. He let out a short laugh before quickly grabbing your arm to keep you from dropping anymore on him. “Really?” Your first thought was to grab it with your other hand, but as you did that he caught you with a smirk
You tried pulling away but with his grip it only forced you to scoot closer to him. There was now a warmth growing on your face as you stared back at him trying to think of your next move to get out.
The smirk still on his face “now what? Are you done?”
Something dropped at the doorway forcing you to both turn to see your brother standing with his bags at his feet “what the hell is going on in here!!”
Suddenly your hands we’re free and you rushed to your feet. “Wait cheol-“
“Out of all the people and all the places! You two?! IN MY ROOM?!!!” He started towards Jihoon.
Moving yourself between them “wait wait it’s not what it looks like I swear!!”
Jihoon was up and backing away slowly “you know me.. we friends.. roomies.. just take a breath”
“Y/n go home I’ll talk to you later. You.” He point at Ji “we need to talk now.”
You grabbed your bag and basically ran out the door. it’s fine it’ll be fine I’ll check on them later. After I’m far away and he’s cooled off.
Obviously you felt bad for leaving the situation like that but what else could you do? Seungcheol was a little scary when he’s mad.
Big girl Katsumi
Tumblr media
series masterlist
Katsumi woke up from Hiroku's squeals. She sleepily got out of her room and walked down the hallway to her brother's room. Hiroku bounced lightly on his feet at the sight of his sister by the door. Katsumi squeezed his cheeks together, kissing him on the lips. He smiled wider at her loving gesture. One by one, Katsumi started undoing the ties on Hiroku's bed so that she could lower one of the bed's fences. Once it was down, Hiroki crawled out. Katsumi left the door open so that he could follow her. They went to her room, where she handed him one of his walkers. While Hiroku was busy playing Katsumi got out of her pajama's and opened up her closet to look for something to wear. She spotted a sparkly black dress and went for it. After getting dressed, she pranced outside to the living room, where the uncles were. She ran up to one and held the skirt of the dress.  "Look at this." She whispered to the cameraman. She gave him a twirl and a bright smile. "Wow, you look pretty!" The cameraman complimented. Katsumi beamed and went to the other cameraman to show off her dress to him as well. She jumped around in excitement at the compliments she received. Remembering her father, she wanted to show him her beautiful dress. She instantly ran towards his room. Atsumu lay on his side, cuddling pillows between his arms and legs. Katsumi rounded the bed to her father's side but since he was in the middle of the bed, she couldn't reach him. Katsumi then decided to let him sleep for a while. An idea struck her and ran out of the room. "Uncle, my dad is sleeping. Please be quiet." Katsumi whispered. The cameraman agreed. Hiroku, who had settled himself in the living room, babbled to his sister. Katsumi told him to keep quiet as well. The small baby just giggled at her. Katsumi went to the kitchen. She noticed the loaf of bread on the island counter as well as a jar of Nutella. She wanted to make breakfast for her dad like how you did for him one morning. Using her trusted step stool, she got a spoon from one of the drawers. Going back to the kitchen island, she opened the jar of Nutella and scooped a small amount of the chocolate. She gave it a tentative taste. As the sweet treat touched her tastebuds, she couldn't help but eat another scoop. Two became three and then, four. Only when Katsumi smeared chocolate on her cheeks did she remember to start on Atsumu's breakfast. She successfully opened the bag containing the bread and got one slice. She did her best to scoop a good amount of chocolate onto the bread, making a small mound in the middle. She hopped down her stool and maneuvered herself to the refrigerator. Katsumi was able to easily pull out the jar of strawberry jam which was just by the door. Going back to her papa's sandwich, with the same spoon she used for the chocolate, she dipped it into the jam and put it on top of the chocolate mound on the slice of bread. Satisfied with it, she carried it carefully and put it on the table. Her next task included getting a glass and pouring in some milk. She was able to do it with minimal spills. She placed the glass beside the piece of bread. She noticed that there was something missing. "Banana!" She said out loud. Grabbing one from the kitchen counter, she placed it with the rest of her dad's breakfast. Finally feeling satisfied, she quickly ran back to her father's bedroom to wake him up. "Papa!" She approached his side of the bed. "Papa, wake up!" She tried reaching for him but he was laying on his side with his back towards her. Katsumi stood up on her toes to pull at the end of Atsumu's shirt. It took a few tugs before Atsumu opened his eyes. Rolling over, he saw Katsumi patiently waiting for him. Atsumu smiled at the sight of his beautiful daughter, first thing in the morning. He did a double take, noticing something different about her. Leaning on his elbow, he looked at Katsumi, "Did ya have some chocolate?" Katsumi smiled nervously and nodded. "Ya can't have chocolate for breakfast, ya know that right?" "But Papa, I made you a sandwich." "Oh? Really now?" " Yes!" His daughter nodded eagerly. "C'mon. You should eat."  She held on to his hand and tried pulling him out of bed. --- Atsumu, with Katsumi on his lap, sat by the table as they ate breakfast. Hiroku was beside them on his high chair. Katsumi munched on the crusts of a slice of bread while she fed a few pieces to her little brother. Atsumu held the slice Katsumi made on his left hand while he dipped a different piece of bread in to the small mound of chocolate and jelly. "Is it delicious, Papa?" "Mm-hmm!"  Atsumu took a big bite out of the bread. "This is so delicious! Thank you so much Katsumi-chan!" The little girl dipped her own bread into the choco-jelly mix and hummed in delight, definitely proud of herself. "Ya can probably beat yer uncle 'Samu in a contest!" Katsumi giggled at the compliment. "But uncle 'Samu is the bestest cook!" Atsumu widened his eyes, putting a finger against his lips. "Don't tell that to yer mama!" --- "I realized why people are so adamant on having daughters." Atsumu chuckled. "They have this invisible hold---especially on their father's heart that's just so powerful." He clutched at his chest. "This was the very first meal Katsumi has made for me. I enjoyed it very much." The blonde blushed furiously with a big, dopey grin. "I'll make sure to cherish all the meals she will make for her papa." --- After their breakfast, the three Miyas got cleaned up and prepared for a lazy day at home. Atsumu had picked up a tube of special lotion from Katsumi's room on their way to the living room. He settled himself on the carpet by the couch with Hiroku beside him. He had recalled you telling him to apply the lotion at least once everyday to the kids. He carefully put some on his fingertips and applied it to Hiroku's arms. "I want to help put lotion on Hiroku." Katsumi held out her palm to her father. Atsumu put a small amount on it. She rubbed it between her hands and wiped it off on her brother's face. Hiroku was startled as his sister applied the lotion a little too harshly for his sake. Atsumu just let out a breath and told her to be more gentle. Katsumi wiped the remaining lotion on her dress. She actually didn't like having lotion on her body. It makes her feel sticky and hot. "Katsumi-chan look at me." She saw her father wipe a glob of the lotion on his own cheek. While he laughed thinking it was the best thing ever, she didn't find it as amusing. "Let's put some on Hiroku-kun!" He did as he said, putting a glob on his son's cheek, which made both boys laugh. Katsumi had an uneasy expression on her face as she dreaded what came next. Atsumu turned to her, "It's yer turn, my princess." Katsumi immediately ran away from her dad with a distressed face---eyebrows together and huge frown on her face. She shook her head firmly. Atsumu just chuckled, already putting a small amount on his fingertip. "Why not? So that ya can match with me and yer brother." He stood up and approached her. "C'mon. Let me just‐--" "No! Papa, no!" She ran away from him again, grabbing a pillow from the couch to protect her face. Tears were threatening to fall from the corners of her eyes. "Okay, I won't! See?" He wiped the lotion on his other cheek. "It's on me now." He smiled, hoping to calm her down. She walked around him, still wary, before sitting down on the floor with Hiroku. Little did she know that her papa had sneakily grabbed the tube and put some on his fingertips. Atsumu pretended to get something from the kitchen and then he quietly creeped up behind Katsumi. Just as she stood up, he quickly did a swipe on her cheek, successfully putting some lotion on her face. Not even a second passed before Katsumi cried out. She looked at her father, feeling betrayed. Atsumu chuckled nervously as he started to think that his joke was not that funny. His daughter stomped away from him and towards one of the cameramen. "Uncle...," she cried to him. The flustered cameraman did his best to wipe away her tears. Katsumi walked away before the cameraman could wipe away the glob of lotion still on her cheek. "Katsumi-chan, I'm sorry. Come here please." Atsumu said from the sofa. Katsumi sobbed and glared at her father. She shook her head 'no.' "Aww, yer breakin' my heart, princess. I'm really sorry. Please forgive me." He did his best pout, batting his eyes at her---the Miya killer move. You have fallen victim for this pout and puppy eyes combo many times from your husband and, now, your daughter. They used it whenever they wanted something and it's highly effective. Katsumi huffed out, reluctantly sitting beside her father. Atsumu cheered softly and held Hiroku closer, who was sat on his other side. He pulled out his phone. "Let's take a picture for yer mama!" He held the phone at arms length, opening up the camera app. "Katsumi! Hiroku! Smile!" Hiroku smiled at the sight of his father's smile. Katsumi, despite her eyes still wet with tears, smiled a beautiful smile while also putting up two of her fingers in a peace sign. Atsumu took a few snaps before pocketing his phone. He gathered his children in his arms, showering them with a ton of kisses.
