Your Type II
Pairings: Eddie Munson x Cheerleader!Reader
Warnings: Angst, Eddie being a dick, Gareth and Chrissy being moral support for Eddie and Y/N, mentions of weed
Words: 1,638
Original Request: Ooh can you do an Eddie x cheerleader!reader who are friends and hang out. They start hanging out and even kiss. His friends (the older ones not the kids) notice he's hanging out with the reader and asks if they're dating but then he lies and says something like "never, she's not my type". Then the reader hears him and gets really upset and confronts him? Sorry I'm just a sucker for something angsty!
Author's Note: I listened to I Really F**ked It Up by GIRLI while writing this, if you'd like to listen while you read. It's a good song and it felt right with this fic. I was told by my proofreading friend that there are grammar mistakes but I’m lazy

Their disbelief only grew, as well as their disappointment, as they watched their friend sit and watch, letting her leave. Mike opened his mouth, ready to join in on the lecturing, but Eddie snapped first.
"I know! I know, man." He bit his bottom lip, thinking. "Just give me a goddamn second." Eddie pulled himself up from the table, looking at Gareth and handing him his metal lunchbox, "watch the merchandise."
He sped walk to the doors, weaving between people to the best of his capabilities. He swore that every time he saw her in the distance, more people got in his way. There were hundreds of "excuse me"s, and "pardon"s spewn from his lips by the time he reached the doors. His speed walking turned to jogging. He reached her much easier than his attempts inside the cafeteria.
"What?" She whipped her head around, eyes red and puffy. Chrissy had her hand on her back, and had turned in unison. Eddie had yet another disappointed expression to look at when Chrissy faced him.
The words were caught in his throat. He felt his heart crumble at the look on Y/N's face, at the evidence of her own heart shattering. "Are you just going to stare? Make sure I'm not your type?" She spat through more tears.
"No, no, no, I promise it's nothing like that-"
Chrissy stepped in, "I'm pretty sure your promises are kind of meaningless at the moment, Eddie. Especially to her." The girl was too kindhearted to use his last name out of anger, but too good of a friend to not be angry for Y/N.
"I know." He looked away momentarily out of shame. "Look, I know, I know I fucked it up, like, really fucked it up, but-"
Chrissy closed her eyes and shook her head at the last word, Y/N followed with her thoughts on the matter. "I'm not interested in your 'but's, Munson. Nothing can excuse what you did. Really, I thought you'd apologize, but instead, you're trying to excuse it with a shitty 'but'."
Eddie realized his mistake there. But his mouth moved faster than his brain. "I didn't know you were there, babe, I-"
"You just wanted to look cool in front of your friends. Is that it? Or maybe you just feel sorry for yourself." Y/N shook her head. She turned and pulled Chrissy along with her.
Once more, he watched her walk away. Once more, he let it happen.
He moped around, sitting at the picnic bench in the forest. Part of him hoped she would come, but he knew she wouldn't. She was right. In a way.
He didn't feel sorry for himself before, but now, now he did. Eddie felt sorry that he lost the girl he pined for for years. He felt sorry that the best thing that ever happened to him walked away. But when he thought harder about it, he felt even more shame. Was it possible to feel sorry for her and sorry for himself and still be in the right?
"Hey man..." His picked his head up, Gareth coming into view with his lunchbox full of contraband. He set the box in front of Eddie. "Don't mean to interrupt your...groveling, but here's your shit."
"M' not groveling." Eddie grumbled.
Gareth sighed as he sat down across from him. "You caused a scene, she walked away, and I'm guessing she lectured you." Eddie's shameful nod prompted his continuation. "So she left you to think about what you did, which is exactly what you're doing. According to the dictionary, man, you're doing the two definitions of groveling."
"I'm not acting to get her forgiveness. I want it to be real."
"Groveling isn't acting." He snorted, "It's paying attention or being obedient but like... A little too much."
"So excessively?" Eddie tilted his head. Gareth nodded. "I mean, I don't feel like I'm being excessive. Even if she hadn't told me off, I'd still think about what I did wrong."
Gareth caught a rude glare from Eddie as he broke out into laughter. "That's the funniest thing you've said all day."
"It's true!"
"No, Eddie, it's not." He lifted a hand to brush through his fluffy hair, "You might, but first you'd drown yourself in weed, campaigns, anything to distract yourself. We've seen you mope before, just never about a girl you were actually dating."
The word "were" stuck with Eddie. He found himself focusing on it more than anything else Gareth said. It pained him even more. "Am I a bad person?"
Gareth met his eyes again. "Huh?"
"Am I a bad person?" He asked again.
"A bad boyfriend, pretty much, but a bad person... I mean, you're not terrible?" Gareth chuckled softly when Eddie glared again. "You're not a bad person."
"Then why am I like this?" He seemed desperate, his voice broke. "I don't, I don't want to be like this, man."
"You just let your emotions and other people's opinions dictate your choices. And sometimes," Gareth shrugged, "those clash."
"So what should I do?"
The plaid vested boy rose from the bench. Eddie's eyes bored into his, begging silently for help. "I dunno, man. Maybe the groveling was the right choice. Now I have to get to class, you should do the same."
"Hey. Eddie wants to meet you at his spot." Gareth shifted on his feet. He felt awkward, a "freak" interacting with the popular cheerleaders.
Y/N crossed her arms. "Eddie can go fuck himself."
"Please. Give him a chance to talk. He's been thinking about what happened nonstop." Part of him wanted to help his friend, the other part wanted him to be okay enough to partake in the campaign tomorrow night. The best friend part of him won, for the most part. "He won't stop moping and shit."
"Serves him right." Despite her immediate response, Y/N was thinking over it.
"I agree. He did a shitty thing. But you'd be just as shitty to not hear him out." Chrissy snapped her head in his direction and widened her eyes at him, reminding him of his place in this argument. "Sorry, that was uncalled for-"
"No, you're right. I'm only giving him this one chance." Gareth looked hopeful. "But he starts making excuse, I'm leaving. I'm not going to be his fucking therapist."
He wasted no time leading the two cheerleaders to the forest. Had he not been rushing to get there, he would've been more cautious. He cringed at the thought that invaded his head. What would people think? One of the freaks luring two of Hawkins High's best into the woods? Surely someone would've called the cops. The thoughts vanished when Eddie came into his sight.
Gareth began walking back, taking his time. Chrissy looked between the two, then back to Y/N, like she was waiting for instruction. "I'm fine. I'll be back, don't worry." Y/N assured her with a hug.
She remained standing as she watched Chrissy disappear into the trees. Only when she was gone, did Y/N take a seat across from Eddie. The tension was heavy and thick. Almost suffocating.
"I'm here. So, talk to me. No excuses."
Eddie let go of control, his emotions in the cockpit.
"I hate myself. So fucking much. Because I was no different than those shitty assholes who play around with girls' feelings and act like a different person in public. I hate myself for making you cry. I hate myself for making it harder for you to stick around." His eyes met hers and instantly, he realized his mouth had been doing all the work again.
"Once again, you're feeling sorry for yourself." She scoffed and moved to stand. Eddie's hand grabbed hers, and she snatched it away, but hesitated before she did so.
"Please, just listen." She seemed just as hesitant, contemplative, but remained seated. "All I can do is say sorry. Every time, and I wanted to be better than that."
"Don't want to be better, Eddie. Just be better." It wasn't meant to be mean, just an observation. A command he wanted so desperately to meet if it meant he'd get her back.
"I'm working towards that." He grinned nervously, "I'm sorry."
"Sorry for what. Apologies-"
"Apologies don't work or count or whatever if you don't say what they're for, I know. I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I made excuses for all the hurt I put onto you. I'm sorry I let my friends' opinions get to my head. I'm sorry that I was a shitty boyfriend."
He sat, waiting for her answer, but avoiding her eyes. His own gaze was fixated in the leaves below his feet.
"You have a tendency to do that." She sighed.
Eddie finally met her eyes, questions lingering on his lips, along with the apologies and "I hate myself"s. His brows furrowed, "Which part are you referring to, exactly?"
"People's opinions." Y/N stated. "People's opinions and your emotions don't make the best duo. We come from different crowds with different opinions. But I don't pretend that I'm not dating you to save face for the squad or the team."
"I wasn't trying..." He stopped himself, grabbing the reigns metaphorically of course. "I was. I let the opinions I didn't even know and the opinions of assholes get in the way of our relationship. I know I fucked it up. I'm really sorry."
"I know." Eddie waited. He waited for her to say those three words. Any of the possible combinations. "I love you" "I forgive you" "I'm sorry too". He waited with his heart in his throat.
"But you've already lit the damn dynamite, and I'm still recovering from the blast."
He was a hurricane, blowing through the town of Hawkins. He was a hurricane, and she was caught in the eye of his storm.
You didn't think she'd forgive him that easy, did you? I'm sorry lmao but the angst was too good, especially with the song
