People never talk about boredom as anything more than a mild inconvenience. They never talk about the constant fight to keep it at bay. They never describe the sense of being eaten alive by it, of being consumed right down to the fucking bones.
Renee is starting to feel it.
Lying on his back on top of the covers, sufficiently energetic music filling his room, he throws a baseball at the ceiling and catches it, again and again. Every movement of his hands elicits a small ache in his bruised knuckles. The only thing that boredom does, in situations like these, is fuel his anger. People don’t understand what it’s like to be bored, not really. They think they do. They don’t.
Renee could speed up the reconciliation, he supposes, but then again, he’s never been one to bend down for a handshake. Davin can go fuck himself.
Throw, catch. Throw, catch, until he gets fed up with that too.
He sits up on the bed. He wants to scream. Decides it’s probably a better idea to go for a smoke instead.
In the kitchen, he finds Davin with his back turned, cutting fresh vegetables. A cookbook lies open on the counter among bags of groceries that have yet to be unpacked, and his laptop, ever present, sits open on the island. Davin doesn’t look up as Renee enters the room, just continues to prepare food.
If he talks to me as I walk past him, I’m gonna go for his throat.
But Davin doesn’t say anything. Lets him by unchallenged.
Renee feels oddly disappointed at that. He shakes it off, stepping out onto the porch.
As he smokes, he watches a couple of crows picking at the seeds of pine cones that have fallen on the mossy grass at the far end of the yard. They jump around, flapping their wings in the frigid air, feathers huffed up for warmth. Soon as one takes off to leave, another swoops down to replace it.
Once the cigarette is gone, Renee flicks the filter in their direction. One of them jumps up to inspect it, picking at the ground around it before it realizes it’s inedible and jumps back to its peers. Snorting, Renee heads back inside, heading back toward his room.
“Renee,” Davin says. Because of course he does.
On the threshold between kitchen area and hallway, Renee stops in his tracks. Runs a clawed hand through his hair as he lets out a sigh.
Davin’s voice is calm, careful. “If we don’t let his wounds heal, he’s not going to last a month. It’s the same reason we don’t have streams back to back, remember? We already had this discussion.”
Renee turns around, crossing his arms over his chest.
Davin stands leaning against the cabinets, hands propped up on the edges of the countertop. “You asked me what side I’m on. Well, I’m on the side that wants this to run as smoothly as it possibly can.”
“I get it,” Renee mutters begrudgingly.
There’s a period of silence, wherein Renee becomes painfully aware of his awkward position in the room, he’s just standing there in the middle of it. He doesn’t try to mitigate the awkwardness, though, decides to just live with it, as he looks at the other.
“Are we good?” Davin asks eventually.
Renee snorts. “Sure,” he says, not fully meaning it.
Davin nods courtly. “That has to be good enough, ‘cause here’s something I need you to see.”
He goes to his laptop, finger dancing around the mousepad until he finds what he’s looking for, and spins the laptop around so it faces Renee.
Renee somehow simultaneously feels his stomach drop and a careful rush of excitement. He looks at Davin. “For real?”
Davin nods. “Watch it.”
The screen is paused on the video of a news broadcast, the header reading: TORTURED LIVE ON “DARK WEB” – POLICE PRESS CONFERENCE. In frame stands a middle-aged man in uniform, reading from a paper, his bald head gleaming with sweat in the sunlight. In front of him are several microphones bearing the logos of various major broadcasting networks.
Renee clicks play.
“—formed a special task force specifically for this case,” the cop says, “as well as established a tip line for citizens to call if they have information that might help in our investigation.
“I want to make it clear that anyone paying for, watching, distributing, or otherwise engaging with this content will be prosecuted for the solicitation of torture. Let me repeat that: Simple viewers are not to be treated as mere bystanders in this case, but as active participants in the torture and degradation of Mr. DeWitt. Out of respect for him and his family, I implore anyone with knowledge of videos circulating the surface web to report them to the authorities, so we can collectively minimize the impact this has on Mr. DeWitt and his family.”
He looks down at his notes, a serious expression on his face as he takes a breath to collect himself.
“Speaking directly to the perpetrators of this crime,” the cop says more firmly, as he looks directly into the camera. “I want you to know that that this department will not rest until Conrad DeWitt is returned safely to his family. You cannot outrun the law. Rest assured that it is only a matter of time before we hunt you down and bring you to justice.” He pauses for emphasis, letting the words hang for several seconds before he directs his attention at the reporters off-screen. “Thank you,” he says, and takes a step back, away from the microphones.
Off-screen, a crowd of people erupts as a dozen questions are shouted at once, all blurring together into one continuous stream of noise.
As Davin pauses the video, Renee straightens up, closing his mouth. He isn’t sure how long he’s been moping.
“Well, that’s something,” he says. He laughs out loud, then catches himself. Tries to gauge Davin’s expression. “I mean, should we be worried about this?”
Shrugging, Davin spins the laptop back around to face himself. “As always, the cops are pretty uptight about the information they choose to divulge to the public, but they’ve made no mention of having any suspects, if that’s what you’re asking.”
“But they know it’s Conrad?”
Davin nods. There’s a faint smile on his lips. “It’s blowing up, Renee. I’ve seen articles online mention Conrad by name as far as Germany.”
“You’re kidding.” Renee can’t begin to unpack it all, can’t pinpoint exactly why his heart is fluttering away in his chest, as if he’s on a roller coaster. “We’ve gone fucking viral,” he says.
Davin nods again.
Renee laughs, staring in amazement at the back of the laptop.
Something is forming in his mind, the tentative beginnings of an idea. “We have to respond to it,” he says. “The press conference, I mean. Think about it, we can’t just let the cops have the last word.”
Davin looks at him. “Do you have something in mind?”
Renee only smiles. “Oh, yeah,” he says.

Unlike the last time they met, the weather is relatively mild that day. The puddles still lingering in pockets on the cracked asphalt have begun to shrink and become less frequent. Birds, previously absent, have begun to flock in the highest tree crowns. They orbit the parking lot, eyes scouring the ground for anything even remotely edible. Although the air is cold, the sky is almost completely clear.
When Renee pulls into the lot, he finds Lazarus parked in the same spot, albeit this time, he’s waiting outside the car, leaning against the trunk, hands firmly tucked away in the pockets of his insulated down coat. As always, he looks freshly groomed, his brown hair framing his forehead on either side. He smiles as Renee pulls up beside him.
“I didn’t think you’d come back to me so soon,” he says as Renee gets out.
Shutting the car door, Renee shrugs one shoulder. “What can I say? I have addictive tendencies.”
Lazarus chuckles ruefully. “You don’t say.”
The moment he is within reach, Renee lets Lazarus pull him closer for an embrace, lets him grab him by the nape of the neck to pull him down for a kiss.
It’s so easy for Renee to get lost in his own senses when Lazarus is concerned. The simple feeling of a breath mixing with his own, of willing lips meeting his, makes the warmth rise in his chest even despite the frigid late autumn air. It’s something he’s reluctant to pull away from, but…
“Business first,” he hums.
Lazarus rolls his eyes, hitting him lightly in the shoulder, but he’s laughing.
He feels a strange urge to ask Lazarus if he has seen the news about Conrad DeWitt right then and there, just to gauge his reaction, but has to admit that that would be a stupid idea. Instead he keeps silent as Lazarus pops open the back hatch of his car, pulling out a white grocery bag from the far corner of the trunk.
“Took some pulling of strings to get on such a short notice,” he says. “And this kind of thing isn’t exactly my expertise. But this should be all you need to get started.” And he hands the bag over.
But before Renee can take it, Lazarus stops him.
“I won’t ask what you intend to use it for,” he mutters. “But I’ll say this, Renee. If I see you on the news because of this,” – he gestures at the bag – “you’re going to have to find a new dealer. You understand?”
Renee nods. “That’s alright,” he says a little awkwardly. He isn’t exactly surprised that Laz is taking such a firm stance on it, but his bluntness about it isn’t something he expected.
Lazarus watches him for a long time, and then nods a little, finally letting the bag into Renee’s grasp. It’s a lot heavier than he anticipated, certainly heavier than it looks; its contents, divided into three separate cardboard boxes, barely takes up a gallon of space in total, but it must weigh the better part of five pounds.
Lazarus smirks as he closes the trunk, then crosses his hands over his chest as he leans up against it. “I make too many exceptions for you, Renee. Before long, you’ll have strung me along far past the brink where my comfort zone ends. You’ve done that in the past, you know.”
“I’m sorry,” Renee mutters, genuinely. He isn’t sure he even remembers what Laz is talking about, but knowing himself, well… yeah, he probably did cross the line at some point. He kicks at the dirt, burying his hands in the pockets of his jeans. “I’ll pay it back to you,” he says.
Lazarus gives him a look. “You already paid, sweetheart.”
Renee grimaces. “I mean the favor,” he says. “All the trouble you went to, y’know. All that.”
Lazarus smiles. “How would you do that?”
Renee lets out a chuckle. “Oh, for that I’ve got several ideas.”

In the far end of the backyard, right before the pine grove, he props a plank up between two chairs, then carefully arranges six full cans of beer in a row on top of it. As he’s walking back toward the patio, he thinks he catches a glimpse of a face in the guest bedroom window quickly darting out of view, and he chuckles low to himself.
Seating himself on the patio steps, a cigarette dangling from his lips, he pulls the largest package out of the grocery bag, shifting its weight around in his hands just to get a feel for it. Then he opens the box and takes out its contents, somewhat relieved that it came already assembled.
Despite the gun he has tattooed on his hip, Renee isn’t particularly savvy when it comes to firearms. He knows the basics, but that’s about it. So he has a go at reading the manual, but once he’s about a third of the way through it, he decides it can’t be that complicated, and discards the manual on the ground.
A second package from the grocery bag is full of ammunition. Live rounds. Renee unloads the empty magazine already in the gun, and spends a good ten minutes filling the clip, one bullet at a time, until the spring can’t give way any longer. The excitement builds in his chest at the satisfying click when he slides the magazine back in and it locks in place.
Getting to his feet, Renee stands at the front of the yard, facing his makeshift target, and cocks the slide back, a little surprised at how heavy it is.
He lifts the gun with both hands, clicks off the safety. Aims at the left-most can of beer and slowly pulls the trigger back.
The first shot rings out in the yard – in the whole neighborhood, Renee is certain - as he steadies himself from the kickback, grinning from ear to ear, a new rush of adrenaline surging through his system. The sudden violence of it, no matter how much he was prepared.
He missed, of course, but it’s been a while since he shot. Giggling to himself, he raises the gun again, this time paying close attention to his breathing, in and out, as he takes aim.
Another thunderous crack splits the air in two, as the beer can explodes in the same instant that the gun recoils.
Without turning his head, Renee tries to visualize the extent to which Conrad’s eyes are glued to the view through the guest bedroom window. He must be shitting bricks right now. As he should.
Fuck, he has no idea. Zero fucking clue.
Renee snickers through his teeth as he rases the gun anew, steadies himself, and aims.

Every time a F1 driver’s appendix gives up a new rip in the timeline is formed
I’ll explain:
The LAST appendicitis we saw in F1 was Alex Albon in Monza of 2022. Like Carlos, Alex ran FP1 & FP2 before confronting the tummy issues and finding out they were serious. When he was diagnosed and officially unable to race, Nick Devries was called up to drive for Williams for the weekend.
Nick has been waiting in the wings for years, putting in impressive drives in other series but never finding an open F1 seat. He drives incredibly well — qualifies 13th after only 1 free practice session, and manages to finish 9th in the race itself. These are the first points scored for Williams this season.
After the race, Nick had dinner with Max Verstappen, who tells him to give Helmut Marko a call.
That call turns into Nick being signed to then-Alpha Tauri (now VCARB) for the 2023 season.
But that sort of… does not go well. Midway into the season, Nick is dropped for Drive To Survive’s favorite boy, Daniel Ricciardo.
As far as things go, the timeline seems restored. Danny Ric goes from social media support for Red Bull to the beginning of his comeback arc…
Until he crashes into the wall and breaks his wrist.
ENTER: New Zealand’s Golden Retriever, Liam Lawson
Liam is INCREDIBLE. Knocks Max Verstappen, resident best driving boy, out of qualifying!!! This is unheard of. The paddock is alive.
But when Danny’s wrist heals, Liam is sent back into his reserve position.
FLASH FORWARD. We have another appendicitis.
Once again, a smooth operator ignores tummy issues. Drives lots. Finally sees doctor, and finds out he has been putting g forces on an appendix that MUST go.
ENTER: F1’s Peter Parker, Ollie Bearman.
This fresh faced babe is only 18. Is less than 4 one hundredths of a second off of knocking the greatest driver of all time out, Lewis Hamilton, of qualifying. Ironically, in this unspooled timeline that we’re currently living in, the seat that Ollie’s keeping warm? Yeah, next year, Lewis Hamilton will be in that seat.
And Ollie!!!! Is!!! Killing it!!!
He finished SEVENTH… ahead of Lewis.
And Lewis? Lewis is so proud of the literal child that he stands next to his car and waits for Ollie to free himself of the car so he can hug him.
Anyways, welcome to appendicitis 2. Silly season is about to get interesting.

No, Ncuti Gatwa's Casting Isn't Regressive
Chapter 1 - For Black Boys?
The general consensus of male companions is they don’t really stand out like their female peers. If I said ‘iconic male companion’ I doubt many people would think of Adric. However, some are still loved by certain parts of fandom regardless. Rory’s nerdiness turned bravery has gotten him a small stanbase. Captain Jack is loved by many especially as he was an openly bisexual character, being Nuwho’s earliest example of queer representation. Or Wilf, whose light-hearted personality and humour engaged so many (Rest in Peace Bernard Cribbins). Black male companions on the other hand didn’t really get those types of flowers, let alone reaching Clara Oswald or Rose Tyler levels of popularity. The amount of lead Black men in Who is little (3 to be exact) and from them, their stories didn’t reach the icon status of the other companions of the show. And the reasons why unfortunately weren’t that surprising.
The first Black male companion was Mickey Smith. Mickey played the role of the scared boyfriend of Rose Tyler, simping after her as she ran off with a mysterious Ninth Doctor. Nine’s best-of-the-best mentality meant there wasn’t a Mickey shape in the TARDIS to fill in. The two would constantly have nitpicky back and forths putting Rose in the position of having to ‘choose’ her man. But her mind was made up. Rose and Mickey split by the end of the season with Mickey revealing his fling with a Ms Trisha Delaney. It wasn’t a universe-defying breakup where the galaxies tried to separate them but instead a case of two people with different wants and needs calling it quits. That doesn't sound too bad on paper, right? But unfortunately, RTD gave Mickey Smith a pre-Martha Jones arc, where so much of his arc would be dedicated to his failure to live up to a Rose Tyler standard. Despite Rose’s contributions to the RoseMickey split and how both characters had cheated on the other, both RTD and the fandom had given Mickey most of the blame. Mickey’s relationship with NineRose would eventually warm up towards the end of series 1, agreeing with Nine that Rose travelling was what she wanted and her council estate days were over. Series 2 decided to flip this on its head however, having Ten and Mickey being a lot more hostile towards each other. From Rose’s eyerolls to Ten forgetting Mickey’s existence it was clear the TenRose TARDIS team only had room for two. After getting fed up with his Tin Dog treatment, Mickey decided to stay in Pete’s World a little longer. The last of his official arc would be his return in the series 2 finale, gun-slinging against Daleks and Cybermen. He wouldn’t return until series 4 for the 2008 Dalek Invasion and a cameo with Martha Jones announcing their offscreen marriage. Although creating a small Mickey Smith standom, Mickey’s time in RTD1 was rough. He was mainly reduced to a comic relief or punching bag for the main white characters, having little room for his own developments. And the ones he did have, such as his absentee father, dead grandma and random Martha marriage were brief moments and not really enough to fully flesh him out.
Moffat gave us another Black male lead in Danny Pink. Although not a companion, Danny would be the math teaching counterpart to Clara Oswald and his conflict with TwelveClara would actually serve a narrative purpose. Unlike RoseMickey, our main companion would choose her boyfriend over the moody Time Lord although it was only briefly. Danny’s soldier past would have him demonised both in show and fandom, from Twelve’s bias against soldiers to Clara’s uncertainty to many TwelveClaras keeping him at arm's length and even going as far as to call him abusive. Danny, like Mickey, wasn’t super popular Black male representation either. Just as Nine and Ten made it clear Mickey wasn’t welcome, Twelve’s issue with ‘PE’ made it clear the two weren’t besties either. Danny would have to prove to Twelve he was worthy of Clara’s love and this would be achieved through his cyber-self sacrifice in the series 8 finale. Obviously, a child murderer would not be a fan favourite overnight, especially from the POV of a former solder Time Lord who’d suffered the consequences of war himself. However, series 8 established Twelve’s arc of moral ambiguity and potential for change, where he’d go on to question the type of man he was; good, bad, both or neither. Yet, Danny Pink was irredeemable. Whether we personally believe Danny deserved a second chance or not, he wasn’t given one like his white counterparts. To the fandom, Twelve and Clara’s actions were the byproduct of context and factors, heart-wrenching decisions in situations they couldn’t control. But Danny Pink was irredeemable, evil and the worst character of Moffat Who. Twelve and Clara were compelling. Danny Pink was trash. In fact, Missy, who’d claimed more lives than Mr Pink ever did would be set up for her own moral ambiguity arc, taking the iconic Time Lord villain and questioning if they could ever become good in their first female incarnation. Against a narrative of growth and change, a white woman’s redemption would be set up for a greater arc that would end at the end of Moffat’s run itself, with most fans supporting her growth and potential, whilst a Black man’s was found in his death to protect the other white characters. Danny’s final appearance would be in Last Christmas where he and Clara shared their final goodbyes. TwelveClara’s arc would continue in series 9 and Danny’s name was never mentioned again.
Chibnall introduced us to the first Black male companion to travel full-time, Ryan Sinclair. Despite this achievement, Ryan would somehow have even less visibility than Danny and Mickey. Ryan’s arc was simpler, focusing on his ability to ride a bike with his dyspraxia. He wouldn’t achieve this goal, not as a slight but as a small commentary on how disability wasn't something to be fixed and instead a part of people’s everyday lives. Ryan’s dyspraxia was heavily critiqued for being written inconsistently and so would many other aspects of his character. His missing YouTube channel post-series 11, his way of mentioning his dead nan each episode and his relationship (or lack thereof) with his dad were seen as many misses in the writing department. Even after losing his nan, most gun-wrenching heartfelt moments about her death were given to Graham instead. Along with this, there was and still is harsh criticism of Tosin Cole’s acting (which ironically hasn’t stopped him from securing lead roles in House Party and Supacell, making him a breakout star of the Chibnall era). Series 12 wouldn’t help Ryan’s case either as after the initial Tim Shaw storyline ended with Graham and Ryan finding a type of closure for Grace, Ryan would slip further back in the queue for priority characters. With the return and new incarnation of the Master, the Fugitive Doctor reveal, the Timeless Child, Ashad the Lone Cyberman and the hunt for the Cyberium, there wasn’t really room for a new companion arc for any of the fam, let alone Ryan specifically. At most, he got a small subplot involving shooting a basketball hoop, similar to his bike-riding storyline. This would only be relevant in two episodes; its introduction and a small scene of him teaming up with Ko Sharmus to take out some Cybermen. His dad whom we were introduced to in series 11 wouldn’t return in this series either, missing the opportunity for a follow-up from that storyline. Instead, we got Tibo, similar to Amy and Rory’s Mels, a companion’s alleged best friend who we never saw in the previous season. This friendship wouldn’t play a key role either and Tibo was reduced to irregular small appearances. Ryan would be ready to leave in Revolution of the Daleks with a wallet of psychic paper. No new YouTube video or completed mechanic NVQ in sight. The Chibnall era companions already faced a fair share of unpopularity and plenty of ‘cardboard cut-out’ allegations. In most companion polls, Ryan tends to sit at the bottom with his grandad Graham following close behind.
This isn’t to say Mickey, Danny or Ryan are blips in Doctor Who’s universe and had no impact whatsoever but that they all suffered due to a lack of meaningful writing. Mickey and Danny mainly served to facilitate white characters and many of their scenes functioned as reminders of how much the Doctor hated them. Ryan on the other hand, despite having what was supposed to be his own arc as a full-time companion, had to share screentime with two others on top of Thirteen’s arc as well. Thirteen and Yaz’s narratives stretched across three series whilst he only got two, and those two were already packed with a lot of other narratives. In the same way the treatment of Martha and Bill reflects the show’s issues in representing Black women, the treatment of these characters shows the issue in the show’s representations of Black men. The vulnerabilities of Black manhood are rarely portrayed in mainstream media due to the stereotypes of Black men being tough, aggressive and hypermasculine (key examples being the Black Brute trope or Thug trope). Even though I wouldn’t argue Mickey, Danny or Ryan fit these tropes exactly, their treatment reflects the antiblackness Black men experience; the false idea of inevitable struggle that Black men are supposed to ‘handle’ because of their ‘inherent’ strength. Across genders, Black characters are made to feel like they have to ‘work’ and ‘earn’ their spot in the TARDIS or ‘work’ to be worthy of the Doctor’s attention, which can feel like a barrier when it comes to feeling represented by this show. The Fugitive Doctor was a step forward, moving beyond Black characters as the companions but an attempt at a Black doctor, a Black main character. But with the Fugitive reduced to cameo roles and the end of the Chibnall era, this never came through. The main options seem to be Tin Dog or three seconds of screen time. Gatwa’s casting can not only be an attempt to build from the sidelining of the Fugitive but also provide a form of Black male representation the show has never done before, building on the neglect of Mickey, Danny and Ryan. The only way to move when you’re stuck at the bottom is upwards.

Cadybear's Reviews- My Two First Loves
Welcome to the twenty-seventh official Cadybear's Reviews! Today I'll be talking about My Two First Loves, which I have ranked on the "Rotting Flesh Tier" at 2 stars out of a possible 10. My last and only playthrough of this was back in April-June 2021.
Oh boy! Oh boy oh boy oh boy! I could write a whole essay on everything wrong with this…
So I will.
To put it briefly: this story feels like it was adapted from a Wattpad story that was written by a 12-year-old whose only ever exposure to high school media and depictions of teenage sexuality was Glee, and then had serious queer and mature themes slapped onto it in order to make it seem better. Y’know, the equivalent of trying to polish a turd.
Or, heck, it’s probably PB’s attempt at ripping off “The Kissing Booth”, seeing as both have a MC in a love triangle between her childhood best friend and a bad boy named Noah, after all. Which, funnily enough, was also originally adapted from some tween’s Wattpad story. That’s about the equivalent to a dog eating some rotten food, shitting it out, then another dog finds it, eats it, and then shits it right out again. And THEN that second dog’s owner comes along to try to polish that double-toured turd.
Number 1: The LGBTQ+ tag is clearly an attempt to appease the queer players that they probably think are being whiny.
Ava’s arc about realizing she’s a lesbian who had been experiencing compulsory heterosexuality is pretty solid in a vacuum. But her being an LI was so blatantly only a last-minute decision PB made during the writing process, and it shows because Ava’s CG just uses her game sprite while Mason’s and Noah’s are fresh art.
MC starts to fall for Ava sometime around at least 30 chapters in, but we don’t get to officially pursue her as a romance option until about 70 chapters in. I get delaying her as a love interest a bit because of the whole thing with MC realizing she’s bi, but even then, there’s just so few opportunities for building any kind of relationship with her that it hardly feels authentic.
Speaking of, MC’s supposed bi awakening is completely rushed and treated with about as much value as a Family Guy cutaway gag, even outside of Ava being sidelined. As someone who realized I wasn’t straight three years ago and is still questioning if I’m bi or straight, I understand that people take different amounts of time to figure out their sexuality. But this MC does not spend any period of time figuring out her bisexuality. She basically just goes “Welp, guess I’m bi now”, and then it’s back to being indecisive as per usual except now there’s a female love interest in the mix too.
To add insult to injury, "discussions of sexuality" is placed in a "player discretion" warning, alongside "racial tensions" and "occasionally violence" to boot. How the fuck is discussion of sexuality even remotely on the same level as either of those? If they meant discussions or depictions of homophobia then maybe I could understand… but I don’t even recall seeing any depictions of homophobia in the book, so including this in the freaking warning tags is pointless at best and kind of insulting at worst.
Not to mention, plenty of other Choices books like MOTY, ILS, D&D, etc. have had discussions about sexuality/LGBTQ+ stuff before, and didn't have to warn us about it. Not even MAH, a later book which had discussions about freaking conversion therapy for Christ’s sake. Sure, some of those books did have content warnings, but they were generally vague and/or mainly warned for violence, and didn’t warn specifically for depictions of queerphobia or discussions of sexuality. Yet for some reason, MTFL feels the need to include a player discretion warning for sexuality discussions, even though it contains far less harsher queer themes.
Number 2: The portrayal of teen sexuality in this does not feel earnest.
Let me just say, I found it very jarring how this one was much more sexually charged compared to PB’s other high school books. PB is usually way more “safe” and PG-13 at most when writing high school characters. Even in books like ROD and WEH, where the characters are 18+ and do have smutty scenes, it’s clear that those books are a lot more restricted compared to the adult cast books.
I mean, with WEH, the safeness makes sense– it was meant to be a serious and tender story from the start, and it does actually follow through on those themes. But ROD feels like it could have easily been as horny with its writing as MTFL was, what with being about a studious “good girl” who goes rebellious. In fact, the story’s loading screen was pretty infamous at first for looking “steamier” than other covers and loading screens.
In actuality though, ROD had only, what, one smut scene? And despite a lot of MC’s outfits being revealing or arguably sensual, there are practically no moments where MC fawned over how “sexy” a revealing diamond outfit looked. Like, I’m pretty sure there were just little to no sexually charged scenes in general.
My point is, whatever compelled PB to make MTFL *this* sexualized is beyond me. My guess is the fact that PB called this one a story about “navigating sexuality” and thus wanted to focus more on the aspects of sexuality, but if that’s the case… hoo boy, did they do a terrible job at it.
I don’t really care about the hypersexualized writing of the teenage characters on its own, or how the characters were initially not confirmed 18+ when the earlier smut scenes were written. What I find far more important is the fact that this sort of cliche and formulaic hypersexualized writing is in a book that markets itself as being about “a young woman navigating love and sexuality for the first time”.
Teens do indeed have sex and can be all over the place with their hormones and sexuality. A lot of us have been there in some way, myself included. And there are ways to talk about that type of stuff in a manner that is silly and/or exaggerated, but still earnest and respectful. But the particular way that MTFL handles super-horny teen sexuality, specifically while claiming to be a coming-of-age story, is neither earnest nor respectful.
The way this story handles these sorts of topics is the writing equivalent to doing a surgery with Fisher-Price toy surgery tools. It’s genuinely difficult to take MC “navigating her sexuality for the first time” seriously when has to constantly blubber about how Mason and Noah are so muscular or how a diamond outfit has “naughty little thigh highs” or how she wants to do a “down and dirty” cheer routine with Ava for Mason and Noah.
That last one especially feels like the kind of stuff we’d see more in a campy chick flick that doesn’t take itself seriously. Honestly, if this was a more campy high school book with the tone of DLS or the 2023 movie “Bottoms”, it probably wouldn’t be as glaring. But in a book that markets itself as a coming-of-age story, the tone feels completely off and the whole book honestly felt like it couldn't decide what it wanted to be.
(Also, while we’re on this topic of MC’s premium outfits, I really fucking despise how MC gets so upset about wearing "mom clothes" if you choose to wear the free modest clothing instead of the revealing diamond outfit in Chapter 2. Ugh. Yes, the dad was being shitty about not letting MC dress how she likes, but all it does is it just makes you feel like shit for not wanting to dress in more revealing clothes. Stop making me feel bad for wanting to wear simple non-revealing clothing. Same goes for you, Chris Romantic Getaway story with your “the regular jerseys aren’t cute enough for girls to wear, we have to cut one up into a cleavage crop top in order to make it good for us girls to wear” bullshit.)
And it just slaps you in the face with these sexual moments too, placing them in frequently whenever it feels like it, and the amount of it that actually contributed to any coming-of-age navigating-sexuality are few and far between. Honestly, it felt like it was trying way too hard to look "mature" with how it handled sexuality (as well as some of the other stuff like them drinking alcohol). Like it maybe was trying to portray teens realistically, but it only does so at a very shallow level.
It's literally just "Look at the teens that talk about sex and like doing sexy things and having sex and doing grown-up stuff like drinking alcohol, see how MATUUURRREEE they are!" and they don't do anything more with it. It's just tacked on so they can pretend their book is a realistic story about maturing/being mature, when it fails at actually doing so.
I mean, I guess you could argue that the MC is meant to be seen as more messy and hormonal. And in that case, I could give it a pass. But, again, MC’s supposed arc of “navigating sexuality” never goes anywhere from that until the very last few chapters where you choose which LI she ends up with. It’s pretty much the same crap all throughout the book. MC doesn’t navigate sexuality, she just runs around aimlessly in it like a chicken with its head cut off.
Number 3: All the serious themes they try to have in the story are overshadowed by MC’s stupid indecisiveness plot.
I’ve already said MTFL tries way too hard to make its story seem “mature” with the trashy way it sexualizes its characters. I’ve said it feels like it doesn’t know what it wants to be. Honestly though, this just sums up MTFL’s writing in general.
MTFL has quite a handful of subplots, and I will admit, all of them are pretty compelling. You have Ava figuring out she’s lesbian, Mack dealing with gang drama, and Mason and Noah dealing with their past and Mason’s dad’s abusive behaviors. And an admittedly decent arc about MC discovering her love for photography instead of cheerleading.
And then you have MC going on about how she can’t decide between her love interests, which is just the bad apple of the bunch that ruins the rest. It just makes it very hard to take everything else seriously. You ever seen that one meme where the Power Rangers put their hands in a circle but then a Teletubbie tries to join in? It’s the writing-equivalent to that, and MC’s indecisiveness plot is the Teletubbie.
And maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if MC’s indecisiveness wasn’t the main focus plot of the whole book. I want to take these other storylines seriously. I want to take this story as a whole seriously. But how can I when the main focus of the story is so god damn shallow? No matter how many "soft positive heartfelt" piano tracks and “so sad and tragic sad” piano tracks from WEH they try put over it, it doesn't change the fact that the focus is MC going on and on about being unable to choose between Mason, Noah, and Ava.
I get teens are shallow and can have shallow issues, but did we really need it to be that big of a focus of the story? Especially when the way it handles it is completely empty? Something like OG HSS was great because even though a lot of the issues the characters had were seemingly shallow and basic (such as the band fighting over which song to play), they do give a little more depth to it and reason to care about it (ie. Aiden starts to feel like a failure at music because of the band infighting). MTFL just throws MC’s indecisiveness at you for 95 chapters and expects you to take it seriously with nothing else surrounding it.
And they try to pull the twist on the title at the end where it’s all like “LI and photography, the two greatest loves of MC’s life”. Which is an interesting idea in concept, except it feels so artificial and non-earned when MC’s romance plot was spending 95 chapters being unable to decide between the LIs.
Number 4: It reuses way too much from HSS.
I know this is a less severe issue, but I just can’t get past it. Sprites, backgrounds, school colors… even plot points like the corrupt principal embezzling from the school, or MC and LI(s) being locked in a large school room (remember when HSS:CA MC and Ajay were locked in the auditorium?). Heck, even MC having lost her mom and having a photography passion connected to that, rings way too similar to one of Autumn’s arcs from the freaking HSS PRIME GAME! Oh yeah, and both of those characters have a love triangle with a golden boy and a bad boy. Holy hell.
Easily the most noticeable part is the sprites. In my playthrough, I counted 7 whole HSS sprites that were used in MTFL: Sydney became Iris, Payton became Toni, Frank became this random kid in a flashback for Mason and Noah's past, Morgan became a kid in Elijah's gang named Lucy, Lorenzo became Chad, Aiden's mom became Asian Noah's mom, Skye's dad became White Mason's dad (PB really said use that sprite for abusive dads huh). And there’s probably more, I’m sure.
And the worst offense? They even reuse the iconic bird's-eye view of Berry High in MTFL. Call me petty if you must, but that's just criminal. It's one thing to reuse and alter a bunch of the sprites, uniforms, and backgrounds from the series but to reuse another book series' iconic background like that? Honestly, it feels rather insulting. They couldn't even be arsed to change the "Go Tigers!" on the football field, that’s how little sense it makes to use that background outside of HSS. Fuck’s sake.
I know it’s kind of the norm for Choices to reuse assets throughout different series, but the fact that they do it so much here and majority of it is from HSS just rubs me the wrong way. At best, it’s jarring and lazy. And at worst, it comes off as trying way too hard to be a “more mature” version of HSS. When in reality, it makes HSS:CA’s side characters look like Citizen Kane in comparison. I mean, at least Clint and Natalie and MC stopped whinging about Rory ⅓rd of the way through the series.
At least when other high-school-setting books like ROD, WEH, and ILITW were made, they at least somewhat bothered to change up a few things and make it feel like an actually different school. They changed up the backgrounds a bit, used different school colors and uniforms, and didn’t reuse nearly as many sprites from HSS.
In MTFL, all they did was make new cheer uniforms for the non-reused sprites and remove the Berry High logos from everything HSS that they used. Yeah they made some changes, but it’s clear that they didn’t put nearly the same amount of effort into it as they did in the other high school setting books.
All it does is just make me miss HSS. Like, stop toying with my heart by piggybacking off of a better series (that has better queer rep too) so much. It’s to the point where it feels like they should have just used the time making this book to instead make a HSS senior year (Which, y’know, would be nice, especially since the sendoff we got in HSS:CA 3 was absolute flaming fucking garbage).
So… in all honesty, I don’t hate this book. But it had a lot of things that annoyed me to no end and it sure as fuck is disappointing wasted potential. It had a great opportunity to be a nice queer coming-of-age story. But instead it felt like a Kissing Booth rip-off with serious themes only hamfisted in order to make it seem more “mature”.

Mama Gumi is coming to town!

Before uploading more with my current Arc, my best friend (@princessanieloid) recommended me to make a post-introduction about Gumi, so you guys could understand better how i represent her in this KML-verse! ^w^
(these are only headcanons about Megpoid Gumi, none of them are official)
SUMMARY
In this KML-verse, Megpoid Gumi is young adult lady (26 y.o.), who has siblings - Gakupo (half-brother) and Ryuto. She is happily married to Yuuma Roro and has a little boy - Baoro (who is the same age as Junko). She is a singer, but also, works as a daytime babysitter in VOCAL.Inc. (she babysits minors-singers or vocaloids' offsprings).
Biography
She was a middle child in Megpoid family (her half-brother Gakupo, is 3 years older than her, and her biological brother Ryuto is 11 years younger). She was diagnosed with childhood obesity (caused by slow metabolism), but her parents didn't seem to take it as something serious, and they kept letting her eat as much as she wanted (thinking that the problem will disappear with with age).
At early school age, she met Roro, who was a in parallel class, they easily found a lot in common (Gumi and Roro both loved origami, and used to went to an art club together). Because of her plumpiness, she was bullied from other youngsters and given those kinds of nicknames, such as seal, pig, cow and etc. Which would leave Gumi in a anxious state and low self-esteem, consoling herself with sweets, where only worsened her problem, but that is where Roro, her family begin to take action. Megpoid` parents regret what they negligent, who were with her warning for years, and can comfort Gumi by overprotecting and giving her careful diets. Her old brother and Roro tried their best to help her lose weight by exercising and eating fewer calories - it weakly work at her body, but moral support helped her to get through bullying,
When Gumi became a singer and member of VOCALOID at the age of 18, she was warmly welcomed (especially by member of CFM, whom she befriended with one of them). The result from family and Roro's support was also cemented by her friendship with Luka, who accepted her for who she was. Lady Tuna even found her appearance as really charming, and told Gumi to never doubt her body and accept herself.
Some facts!
Gumi is the same age as Luka (except that Megpoid is 6 months younger) while Roro is 2 years older than Gumi.
Gumi is sweet, tender, loves joking around with youngsters. She can't stand when something unfair happens to her family or friends.
She was pampered by her parents as long-expected child, but it doesn't made her selfish nor arrogant - parents' love inspired her to be a loving and wholesome to everyone.
In InternetCo group, there was a joke about Gumi "How to guess Gumi's favourite color? Pink! Why? Look at her environment". Many a true word is spoken in jest, because Gumi's closest people - Roro and Luka have pink-hair.
(Roro and Gumi): Roro was inconfident about confessing his feelings to, while Gumi was more opened with it; Roro will do his best for his beloved Gumi to make sure that she is safe and sound. They never got separated with each other. Gumi and Roro were childhood friends, and even got a nickname from their classmates "two peas, that looks like carrot and watermelon, in a pot".
When Roro found out that Gumi was expecting their first child, he was so happy that he literally cried (but that is a secret between two of them, because Roro wants to make an appearance of strong confident guy). And all throughout the pregnancy, he was always making sure that Gumi is okay - drank vitamin pills, eat enough, not cold nor heat and etc.
Funniest (sort of) coincidence was the thing, Gumi and her pink best friend Luka were both expecting in the same year (with only 2 months difference, because Baoro was born in July, and Junko - in September). Meiko even said once: "Have you two in cahoots to have a child at the same year?!", which is irony, because both of them kept asking Mei as the one, who had the experience in this. (even though Megpoid and Megurine read a lot of books about pregnancy, they felt come confident if they would talk to somebody, who went through this)
When Gumi and Roro`s baby was born, Roro wanted to call their son as Baoro (His name on Japanese 保ロ means "protective son"), because he wished that their son, when he will grew, will protect and support his beloved ones (especially his mom).

Welcome to Night Vale episode recs
Welcome to Night Vale episode recs—for new listeners and for fans that fell off! I’m thrilled to see interest spiking in my favorite podcast after certain site-wide events, so this is a list made to make Night Vale's large catalogue less intimidating. WTNV is a master of both impressively plotted arcs and phenomenal one-offs, and there's something for everyone, whether you've never heard it before or haven't listened in eight years <3
Requisite warnings: Welcome to Night Vale is an absurdist horror-comedy, and it goes heavy on themes of unreality, especially in regards to perception, derealization, time and memory, existential dread, and body horror. The premise is that the listener is a citizen of the town, and Cecil often addresses the audience directly, not to mention frequently implies they’re in danger. The series is also (United States-centric) political satire about government surveillance, gun laws, and general conspiracy. Year One specifically is heavy on themes of anti-indigenous racism, which I believe were resolved insensitively. Please be cautious, and honestly, if anyone has questions about specific warnings/episodes I'd probably be down to answer!
On to the episodes! I’ve sorted them here into recs for new listeners and for returning ones. The list is quite long (26 recs in all—longer than a season!), so I’ve put it under a cut, but TL;DR: Year One is the best for people looking to get into the feel of the series, and returning listeners should consider relistening to some old arcs and poking into the new ones to see what’s changed in Night Vale, both town and show! The official transcripts page lets you sort by arc and by year, and I personally love the now-archived cecilspeaks on Tumblr for transcripts up to 176!

Recs to pique your interest! These are mostly one-shots which represent the ethos and storytelling of Night Vale :)
1, “Pilot”: An absolute classic, and one of my favorites even after so long! The first episode is literally amazing at setting up the general tone of the show and the town, not to mention dropping about a dozen future plot threads at once!
2, “Glow Cloud”: ALL HAIL—ahem. There’s a glow cloud and a wonderful end monologue :)
3, “Station Management”: Sneaking this in because this is the ep that really dragged me into the show! I could go in depth, but I know my audience; simply go forth knowing it features Cecil being a poor little meow meow <3
13 and 45, “A Story About You” and “A Story About Them”: The first parts of one of the most intriguing arcs of the series, told in second-person with an engrossing break from usual format and eeriness aplenty!
71, “The Registry of Middle School Crushes”: A family heist!!!
94, “All Right”: One of Night Vale’s most technically impressive episodes—listen to this one with headphones!
101, “Guidelines for Disposal”: Another personal fave. Something about this one really, really strikes at my heart, and I think it perfectly showcases Night Vale’s ability to balance its silly surrealism with haunting, lovely narrative
131, “Brought to You by Kellog’s”: I can’t possibly explain this one. Just listen to it
132, “Bedtime Story”: Oh man. Ohhh my god. Do you want to feel feelings about a boy who wanted to know everything
133, “Are You Sure?”: Another technically stunning episode; you have to relisten to this one for it to achieve full impact. Consider reloading once you’re done with your first listen, and again after your second :)
142, “UFO Sightings Report”: A lovely episode that offers glimpses into the lives of various Night Vale citizens. It ends heavily, but comfortingly all the same
159, “Cat Show”: You know how Cecil has a floating nightmare cat?
168, “Secret Blotter”: Extremely fun episode which goes off the usual format by a tad to great effect
All in all: I think Year One is the absolute best for exploring the ambience of the town and familiarizing yourself with recurring names and arcs, and even in a town where time doesn’t work, it’s best to start at the beginning! But there are so many Night Vale episodes famed for their prose and panache, and for good reason—shop around for what interests you!

In Defense of Gillington "Gil" Webber Part 2
After the last Episode we take a break from Lagoona's boy troubles and it's time to focus on Frankie's boy troubles. it's refreshing to see Jackson & Holt just come out and say they likes Frankie instead of tip toeing around the topic, Then Deuce has girl troubles and Ghoulia has boy troubles and everyone is in some relationship drama except for Clawdeen... Smart Ghoul. BUT this isn't about them. but I do enjoy the last half of Volume 2! I forgot about how much of jerk Operetta was, I kinda miss it.
We don't hear any updates on Gil and Lagoona's status until Episode 57 "The Bermuda Love Triangle" where Frankie needs help deciding on who they like more Holt or Jackson, under advice from a Teen Scream magazine the oracle tells Frankie to ask their friends for advice! and the first friend they run into is Lagoona.
In her fragile state Lagoona is probably the worst person Frankie could have possibly asked for relationship advice.
"Hey Lagoona! I think I like 2 boys!"
"wow! 2 boys huh? good for you! some of us are lucky if we can find one! much less get his parents to accept us or even keep him in the same school. But 2 boys!? Good on ya mate, I'm very happy for you"
Lagoona falls apart during the end of her comment then she turns away from Frankie and cries into the drinking fountain. I'd like to remind Lagoona that she is the one who did this! she pushed Gil to confront his parents about their bigotry and Gil warned her this would happen, we're supposed to feel bad for Lagoona but I just don't! She made her bed now she has to lie in it. We're supposed to be sad because she sheds a few tears? While Gil is currently rotting in an Underwater Boarding School! crying is the least of his problems! is he getting hazed? or caned? we don't know! I wouldn't put it past racist parents to tell the Dean to put the boots to him extra hard for being a dirty salt water monster lover. I would give anything if Mattel showed us what that school was like! cowards!
BUT being a bitch to Frankie isn't going to undo what you did sweetheart.
We don't hear from Lagoona during the Monster Mashionals arc Which was the end of Volume 2 but after that finishes we get our second Special and My personal favorite: Fright On!
Fright on is where Gil makes his big return to Monster High! Lagoona mentions the feud between Salt Water and Fresh Water folks and Gil mentions that his Parents sent him away "But they couldn't change me so I'm back!"... What!? that's it? that's how you got them to send you back to Monster High? nononononononono! Racist Parent's don't just give into the demands of their kid because "they can't change you" they weren't trying to change Gil, they just wanted to keep him away from Lagoona! it's such a weak BS excuse! come on Monster High you are WAY more creative than this hand wave of why Gil has returned. I like my theory better that Gil went feral at the boarding school and got thrown out on purpose so his parents had no choice but to send him back to Monster High. (I did mistakenly call it a Military school, my bad) and That's the theory I'm sticking with. The most common reasons people get expelled from Boarding Schools are carrying weapons, fighting, stealing school property, disrupting the education of others, hacking the school computer systems to change test scores, damaging school equipment. So do with that information what you will.
Now regardless if you accept the canon explanation or my theory the outcome is the same either way... Gil basically strong armed his parents into getting his way. This is important but also worrying for Gil since it has been heavily implied that Gil fears his parents, I can't imagine they welcomed him back with open tentacles.
Now we officially enter Volume 3! The first few episodes of Volume 3 spend a lot of time taking characters who were introduced in Volume 2 and Fright On and blending them with the monsters we already know and love. We don't really see much of Gil and Lagoona until Episode 72 "Unlife to Live" and it's only for a second. they're still palling around together.
For the beginning of Volume 3 Gil and Lagoona are hardly in it together. We don't really see or hear from them much as a team until we get to the first movie "Why do Ghouls fall in Love" where they are giving Ghoulia love advice because she is torn Between Slo-Mo and Don of the Dead. Can I just say I can't think of any couple least qualified to give someone else dating advice? Their relationship is being held on a thread of Gil's parents mercy at this point.
Now it's been AWHILE since I've watched this movie, despite my love for Kieran Valentine and his sexy southern drawl It's not really part of my rotation unless it's Valentine's Day. But does anyone else remember Draculaura being a huge cow in this movie? Because for some reason I don't but during the re-watch she really is! in terms of Monster High characters who are bad partners Draculaura definitely fits the bill here, Not only is she ungrateful as hell to the gifts Clawd gets her, She low key cheats on him with Valentine during this entire movie.
I know I'm supposed to be focusing on Gil and Lagoona but this seems like a bigger problem at the moment.
Valentine has just walked into the school, he has NOT yet put Draculaura under his spell or hypnotized her or anything yet. He just walked up to her and give her flowers and she calls him "My Valentine" all love struck... Clawd walked away from her not even 10 seconds ago. And this is how she acts when her ex shows up and her current boyfriend is out of ear shot??? This may not be "technically" cheating but it's suspicious as hell and not cool. Flirting is cheatings ugly cousin. But no one gives Draculaura shit for being a bad girlfriend now do they? I feel like it's because she's a fan favorite, cute and a girl, But because Gil isn't that he seems to have the worse reputation...and why? Gil has done nothing wrong. I'm gonna be mad about it the whole movie. Clawd doesn't deserve this. The ghouls & Frankie but mostly Clawdeen do get on her case about this, but it's already after Valentine has been touching her, romancing her, having lunch alone with her... This is cheating y'all. They tell her she needs to choose but completely ignore the fact that she has already been cheating on Clawd. Clawdeen tells her that Clawd isn't stupid & he's a great guy - for some reason they are tip toeing around saying the C word...but it's cheating y'all, this is cheating. Draculaura cheated on Clawd on got away with it. Frankie who is narrating this movie spins us a yarn about how poor Draculaura is torn between 2 boys!... But she isn't though... She is currently in a monogamous committed relationship with Clawd and cheating on him with her Ex... this is not "torn between 2 loves"- cheating! it's cheating. "But in the end Draculaura knew the answer" - to STOP cheating on the boyfriend that she already has is the answer. In the next scene, to Draculaura's credit she DOES choose Clawd and tell Valentine that it's been fun but she loves Clawd... Valentine then hypnotizes her to get her in his clutches, NOW from here on out y'all can feel bad for Draculaura but don't forget she cheated on Clawd before the hypnosis thing with little to no prompting. But tell me again how Gil is such a shitty boyfriend.
That movie ends with Draculaura having cheated on her boyfriend, but she still got a car, a party, gifts, Clawd. This is a horrible message to send to little kids, How did we let this fly in 2012? Don't cheat on your partner folks, there is no guarantee they will forgive you and IMHO they shouldn't.
The next 3-D Movie is "Escape from Skull Shores" and THIS is the the one we've all been waiting for! so go grab some milk or an orange, pack a lunch because this is going to be a long bumpy ride!
So, right off the bat Lagoona planned Gil's spring break without telling him under the guise of a "surprise" and apparently Lagoona's parents sent them a luxury cruise to bring them to the Great Barrier Reef (Great Scarrier Reef was not canon yet) so that Gil can meet her parents. Gil... Understandably so freaks out a little.
Maybe it's just because he's a boy and "meeting the parents" is such a big step in a relationship, maybe he fears they are racist like his parents are and won't like him... Lagoona reassures him no one cares about the whole salt water/fresh water thing anymore... Gil is...
Not convinced.
Gil is kind of being a sandy butt hole about this but after what his parents put him through can you blame him?
Lagoona is trying to be very optimistic and tell Gil about how Beautiful the Great Barrier Reef is to put him at ease but...
"I just wish it wasn't so full of Sea Creatures"
Pump the Breaks! This might be the first unsavory thing Gil has said, I really hate to give that "Gil is a racist" mindset any legitimacy but... that was kinda bigoted Gil, it reeks of "you're one of the good ones!"... Which if your familiar with racism like myself you'll know that's not a compliment!
Lagoona isn't hurt by this. She uses this as an opportunity to gently remind Gil he is starting to sound like his bigoted parents and then she does a very.... Canadian? Midwestern? unflattering impression of Gil's mother?... "Oooh yea! a thousand lakes! no salt in MY water!"
Gil immediately apologizes for his bigoted statement and confesses to Lagoona that he's afraid of the sea. He thinks it's full of scary fish and monsters who just want to get their flippers on a fresh water guy like him... Gil's parents have instilled in him that sea creatures are out to get him, this is not Gil's fault this is an unfortunate side effect of being raised by a racist (trust me). He also adds on that the "Normies" have polluted it so much you can't even see 3 feet down... you know what? I'm gonna let Gil have that one, Humans DID fuck up the ocean.
Gil: "what's that!?"
Lagoona: "it's an island chain, mate"
REALLY, LAGOONA!? is it an island chain!? or is it a fuckin' Kraken!?
This does not justify Gil's parents racism against all sea creatures but to treat any place on earth like it's completely safe would be a fool's errand. Danger is everywhere.
"What was that you were saying about the sea being "perfectly safe!?"" I wanna bust Gil for being an asshole here but...given what's happened to them, he's kinda right to get sassy.
Lagoona doesn't say a damn thing.
While they are shipwrecked they get picked up by this greasy human dude named Bartleby Farnum who's just a lazy parody of P. T. Barnum, If you know even a little bit about P. T. Barnum you already know this guys deal, scam artist, showman, trickster. the whole movie is already spoiled for you, Sorry.
Frankie looks exactly like this scientist lady from an Island Farnum knows about so he wants to use them as bait to catch Andy. it's a popular head canon that G1 Frankie was just straight up built using the dead scientists head and I completely agree, it would explain their "uncanny" resemblance to her.
Frankie's head has to have belonged to the scientist... Heterochromia is pretty rare, what are they odds they would look like her AND have her Heterochromia!?
Edit from future me: SHE EVEN HAS A CUT ON HER FACE IN THE SAME PLACE AS FRANKIE! this is no longer a head canon, it's just canon, Frankie's head used to belong to the normie scientist from Skull Shores. She probably got that cut on her face from being in the jungle.
While everyone was sleeping Farnum steered them to Skull Shores, when Lagoona asks about the Great Barrier Reef, Farum assures her this is just a one night stop to rest and get supplies. Notice how he did not tell any of them this, before they went to bed. Just assume everything Farnum says is a lie and you'll be good. Farnum makes up some BS reason why they should say on Skull Shores and everyone loves the idea except for Lagoona who thinks her parents will be worried sick about them if they don't hear from them soon, Farnum guilt trips Lagoona into letting everyone stay and she caves.
Lagoona is rightfully suspicious of why Farnum wouldn't let her back onto his boat when they all just spent the night on it and enlists Gil to help her spy.
Gil would prefer to stay on Skull Shores because 1.) it has a lake and 2.) it means he doesn't have to go meet Lagoona's parents. Lagoona knows he is stalling and Gil finally breaks.
Gil: "They won't like me Lagoona! I'm a fresh water freak to them!"
Lagoona: "it's all in your head Gil! they're modern monsters! that's not how they feel!"
Lagoona is being kind of a hypocrite. Gil warned her several times that his parents are racist and won't let him see her, Lagoona told him to stand up to them and when he did he got sent to an Underwater Boarding school for the entire Summer and half the next school year! Now Lagoona is trying to convince him her parents aren't bigoted and from Gil's POV why should he listen to her? the last time he took her advice he got exiled. They're trying really hard to paint Gil out to be the bad guy here for not wanting to listen to Lagoona but look at what happened to him the last time he did.
Is he right? No. But do I blame him? also No. By being so pushy with his parents Lagoona ruined her own credibility. it was real easy for her to go "Stand up to your parents!" when it wasn't her head on the chopping black. Gil was the victim in that situation and he's scarred now.
Despite being hesitant Gil goes with Lagoona. He protested but he still goes with her, this is yet another case of Gil going against his better judgment to support Lagoona.
Lagoona: "let's hurry!"
Gil: "Good, I don't want to be in the sea any longer than I have to"
Lagoona: *gives Gil a dirty look*
Gil: "Whales go to the bathroom in here Lagoona!"
Gil, Shut up. I've been defending you all this time but don't sit there and tell me that crocodiles and gators don't shit in lakes. Gil complains, a lot and he's been real sassy this whole movie... but he still goes with her.
Lagoona and Gil are missing from dinner and Farnum instantly sends Kipling to go find them... Farnum must have better instincts than me because if I was babysitting some teenagers on an island and the boy & girl who are real close ran off to be alone in the woods... I would just assume they're boning and go back to trying to rob the natives or whatever he's trying to do.
I just gotta pause this analysis of Gil and Lagoona's relationship to focus on this hunk of Manster that we never got a doll of. Mattel robbed us blind! Can you imagine him on a Manny Body? Bow chicka wow wow! Me @ G3 please bring us Andy! I'll forgive you for removing Frankie's neck bolts if you give us Andy!
Lagoona sees that Farnum is tracking Frankie and she wants to rush in and follow him, Gil asks her what she plans on doing once they get there and her answer is "I'm not sure but we'll think of something" Gil... respectfully tries to question her logic and he insists they think about this before just jumping in but Lagoona, ignoring Gil's sound advice steps forward on the cliff ledge they are are on and falls into Farums hands.
Lagoona isn't stupid but this is probably the second dumbest thing she's ever done, the first one being telling the boy she likes to confront his racist parents like he's not going to get punished. Rushing into things without considering the consequences is no way to go through life Lagoona.
Once we see Lagoona get caught we pan to Gil who looks like he's running away because... Movie has to engineer conflict SOMEHOW. Did people just stop watching Skull Shores after the commercial break? because that's the only reasoning I can think of for why Gil is so frequently labeled a coward and a bad boyfriend. Because if the movie ended HERE!? then yes, Gil is a coward and a bad boyfriend. But it doesn't.
Farnum roasting a teenage girl that he has just kidnapped because her boyfriend ran away and Lagoona agreeing with Farnum. "I knew Gil wasn't the most courageous monster but I never thought he would just hang me out to dry" WOW Lagoona! way to have faith in your man! Everyone keeps saying that Gil is a bad boyfriend to Lagoona but I'm beginning to think maybe Lagoona has been a shit girlfriend. "but Jess!" I hear you cry... "what would YOU do if you saw your man run away!?" If it was me? I would assume he's thinking up a rescue mission because him running down that hill after I get caught to "save me" would be very stupid when it's 1 against 6 and one of those 6 is a pretty big dude. getting BOTH of us captured wouldn't have done anything to help our situation.
I started this deep dive to defend Gil but really all it's doing it making me dislike Lagoona. She's SO short sighted! I guess years of looking at her with rose tinted glasses made me see her as this perfect person but the problem with looking at someone with rose tinted glasses is... all the red flags just look like flags.
Just as it looks like Farnum has won, Gil returns with an army! "The salt water army" in his own words! My boy came back with reinforcements and he tamed the Kraken!? He swam all the way to the Great Barrier Reef by himself and showed up on Lagoona's parents doorstep, exhausted and probably rambling about their daughter being in trouble and they trusted him enough to take care of business on his own... mind you this is the first time they met him!
Between this and getting snotty with Mr. Hack it's very clear that Gil has no problem facing conflict on the condition that conflict is not his own parents why is that? Because Mr. Hack and Farnum don't have control over his life! His Parents do. Gil has been very brave when problems arise his one weakness is his parents and I don't think we should fault him for that. He busted ass for Lagoona and y'all have the nerve to call him a racist coward, the level of disrespect is unreal.
This is yet another moment they should have kissed, Gil even has his water tank off. I can't even use the excuse that Mattel is run by prudes in this part because Draculaura and Clawd got to kiss in "Why Do Ghouls Fall in Love" Why no Lagoona and Gil kiss!?
Anyway, Gil says the whole time he realized what he is the most of afraid of is losing Lagoona... Which if you've read this far... Duh.
The rest of the movie wraps up with not much more from Lagoona and Gil they had their big moment. Great timing too because I have once again hit Tumblrs photo limit. I stand by everything I said in part 1, In fact I'd like to double down on it and say not only is Gil a great boyfriend, Lagoona might not be a good girlfriend. Gil has one boundary and Lagoona does not respect it. Re-watching the Webisodes and the first few movies has shown me that Gil is willing to do anything for love... but he won't do that and all Lagoona and her fans can focus on is the that.
I don't know how this Gil slander started, but whoever started it clearly has no critical thinking skills at all OR they like, saw the screenshot of Lagoona crying and got insta-mad "Gil made Lagoona cry! rage!"... yes... yes he did make Lagoona cry... And then she got him sent to an Underwater Boarding school! one of these things is vastly worse than the other! get perspective!
I don't know if I'll make a part 3... I really want to cover 13 wishes but by now? I feel like I've made my point. The Gil slander is unfounded and Gil never did anything wrong he's just a good boy in a bad family situation.
I would think a lot of you... if not most of you can relate.

So, I made character playlists for their personal mixes (with cassette cover art they decorated themselves) to help me plan it all out and then made an official Fic Playlist on Spotify that'll have every song in the order they are referenced to make it easy to find a song you might not recognize or remember off the top of your head!

DnD, Halloween, Movies, AV and Hellfire Club... all the times they spend together are what makes him the happiest.
So, reasonably, all his favorite songs are the upbeat ones that remind him of all his favorite people.
El's Marvelous Tracklist
El's finally had the chance to start learning what she likes, unsurprisingly, a lot of it was influenced by a certain day at the mall and the sleep overs after.

Q: What is Villain: Redux?
A: It is a work of Powerpuff Girls fanfiction that I’ve been writing since November 2019 and I have published on both Fanfiction.Net and Archive of Our Own.
Q: Are you the same author as the original Villain PpG fanfic?/Is VillainR really an official rewrite of this old story?
A: Yes and yes. :)
Q: When does the story take place/How old are the PpG in VillainR?
A: The longfic has 3 major arcs. Part One takes place roughly 7 years after the events of the original series (when the Puffs were still of Kindergartner age) and opens when the Puffs are celebrating their 13th birthday. Part Two takes place 3 years after that, at age 16, and Part Three skips about another year and half and leads up to their 18th birthday.
Q: Does this story involve characters/elements from the 2016 PpG/What is considered canon in the VillainR universe?
A: Because of certain contradictions in both the 2016 series and in later episodes featured in seasons 5/6 of the OG series, I have decided to consider really only seasons 1-4 of the OG series as well as the Powerpuff Girls Movie when the series creator, Craig McCracken, was still the heart of the show as canon, and this is what is considered “in universe” for my Villain world.
Q: So is this one of those Highschool PpG fics?
A: It’s “aged up” Puffs for sure, but I’ve actively tried my best to avoid the usual high school tropes such as the mundane school setting. I prefer describing the fic as a “coming of age story plus superpowers” over a “teen drama.”
Q: What are the ships/romantic pairings in Villain: Redux?
A: Villain: Redux is not a ship fic. There are some romantic subplots but romance is NOT the main focus. I emphasize that because I understand a lot of readers actively seek romance and I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up for this very long slowburn fic. The romance is minimal, but the ships/pairings that are included alongside the major story’s events are: Blossom x Robin Snyder and Buttercup/Joey/Jojo Jr x Princess Morbucks
Q: Why do you keep referring to Buttercup as Buttercup/Joey/Jojo?
A: If you read the story, I’m sure you’ll understand as you get into Part Two. But to those who haven’t and are wondering why the multiple names in reference to the green Puff: The character is genderqueer/trans and eventually adopts both “Joey” and “Jojo Junior” as new names. So since I’m unable to know exactly where in the story a reader may be with reading, in all my posts I tag with the multiple names for the character.
Q: Why all the LGBT stuff?
A: Because I’m queer and I enjoy writing queer characters and for queer audiences. Always have and always will. See this ask/answered for more on that.
Q: What are your pronouns/What do I call you, the author?
A: Thanks for asking! My preferred pronouns are They/Them or She/Her, but since I’ve gone by “Yay Ninja Bob” and “Bobby” within the fandom since childhood I’ve gotten used to the accidental he/hims and personally I’m good with ALL pronouns as long as they are used with respect. I identify as queer and nonbinary. Calling me “Yay Ninja Bob”, “Bobby” and “Bob” are all fine and welcome! That IS me, lol. Adopting a “B” name used to be a trend once upon a time in the PpG fandom. But in my everyday average life, I’m called Ris. :)
Q: Why did you decide to rewrite Villain anyways?
A: 1) I always said I’d rewrite it someday, so I’m fulfilling that finally.
2) It’s my personal favorite story I’ve ever come up with- fanfic or original- and I wanted to improve upon it
3) Powerpuff Girls FOREVERRR, babyyyy!!! Lol, no seriously: This show saved my life multiple times- without a doubt. I just OWE it, I dunno… something… and well, fanfiction is the best that I got. :p Also the OG Villain gained some popularity in the fandom somehow lol and I got SO much love for it, that also yeah, I felt like I OWED the fans/readers of the original something better too.
Q: Where are the Rowdyruff Boys in this story?
A: They exploded at the end of their debut episode, and in Villain: Redux they remain dead and deceased. While they are not actively present in the story, they are referenced multiple times. In fact, their death/destabilization is a plot point to the story, sooo leading into the next FAQ and unfortunately MOST FAQ….
Q: Do you hate the Rowdyruff Boys?
A: NO.

Thank you for responding to my ask, and for that answer, Really, I mean it. I've dealt with bad fandoms before, but the majority of the YGO Community is probably the one that would drive me insane the most. I can understand where they are coming from and why they are upset, like Zuzu not getting her own Pendulum Monsters (Which I'm still confused over because logically, it doesn't make sense for her not to have it. Then again, I don't know when she would get them, maybe Synchro?).
But that doesn't make it less painful. I'm a late newcomer to the series, I only just started getting into it 2 years ago around this time, so I wouldn't know any better about this stuff, especially YGO"s weird, and quite frankly, unnecessary female duelist problem. Like this shouldn't be an issue in the first place, yet it is. But, Arc-V, despite not exactly fully delivering, was a step in the right direction.
You're welcome! I've been familiar with the YGO fandom for a long time and I saw a lot of Arc V hate as the series progressed. People insulted me, as well as my friends, for still liking Arc V before and after it finished, so I can definitely emphasize with how bad and insane the fandom can be. There are a few reasons as to why I try to avoid the online community as much as I can and that is one of them.
I would have loved for Yuzu to get Pendulum cards, but I can see why that didn't happen. In-universe, the only way she could have gotten Pendulum cards was from Reiji and I don't think he would have made Pendulum cards for her deck. She wasn't officially a Lancer, even though he did say that her skills where on par with the other Lancers during the Synchro arc, and considering they didn't know where she was or how long it would take to find her, I don't think it would have made sense for Reiji to have Pendulum cards for Yuzu on standby. That being said, I am baffled that Konami hasn't made Melodious Pendulum cards yet. Her deck relies on her monsters being special summoned and having Pendulum cards would really give her archetype a much needed boost, as well as a couple of more Fusion monsters. I don't know if they'll do that when I'm not sure how popular Melodious monsters are in the OCG, but I love playing Melodious monsters in Duel Links as Yuzu, so giving her archetype some much needed love and support would be so cool.
To be fair, it isn't a problem exclusive to YGO in regards to their female duelists. It's more of a problem in shonen series since female characters in general typically aren't given the best writing or treatment. One could argue that this has been improved upon over time some of the more popular shonen series, but by how much is pretty debatable. Still, I'm not surprised that people see this as a YGO problem considering that there are questionable to sexist writing throughout the franchise for its female characters. It's been a pretty big talking point about the series pretty much from the start. Although, I've also seen plenty of sexist reactions from the fanbase towards the female leads too. It's kind of a complicated topic because there are plenty of issues with how the franchise as a whole has handled its female characters and plenty of ways for it to improve, but at the same time, I do think that the fanbase can be much harsher towards the female characters compared to male characters. With Yuzu in particular, I still remember seeing people wish for her to get hit or hurt because she stopped the Dragon Boys from merging in Synchro. Even before then, people were upset that she kept Yuya and Yuto apart for so long, despite how she wasn't doing that on purpose and there was a really good reason why they didn't meet for awhile. That isn't to say that there aren't any valid criticisms from fans, but just that I've noticed that some reactions over the years can also give off some sexist vibes.
I do agree that Arc V was a step in the right direction in regards to female duelists. I still think that the franchise has a complicated issue with female leads based on the series following Arc V, but ideally, they can continue to improve in the future.

Hey Alex! I have a headcanon request! How would be the brothers and dateables react to realizing they want to marry Mc after Mc protects Luke from a Lesser demon (*Cough* beats the hell out of the demon by them self! And didn't get a scratch lol *Cough*) Thank you, stay safe and get some sleep!

This is written assuming that you have been with a specific character for a time before this. Most likely after arc 2 somewhere.
This is a LONG one folks! Just over 2k words in total.
GN!MC as always, with literally everyone that isn't Luke!

The first thing he heard was Luke shouting, the next, You shouting. His first instinct was his only thought as he threw himself into a sprint. He had to help you. To protect you from any that would bring you harm. His worry it seems, was misplaced.
Arriving at the scene he found you standing over a lesser demon with your hand still curled into a fist. The last echos of a spell hung in the air and sizzled at the lessor demons unconscious face as the blood evaporated from its heat. You glanced back then, looking over to Luke, thrilled as he was that you had managed this. Then your gaze hit him. He had never loved you more.
BROTHERS
Lucifer
He had been ready to more or less go to war for you, but he didn't seem to need to. Lucifer was quick to chastise you for being so rash but he was practically preening from your resounding success. His dear human had come so far since the start of the exchange. After his stern words and thorough examination of your condition, he did complement your victory. Such things should be rewarded, and a dinner out with him seemed to be more than enough. Perhaps he could finally have the conversation he had been hoping to find a place for. Surely you were ready for life in the Devildom at this point, especially one by his side. He was glad now that he had already thought out that moment a thousand times, then a thousand more. The perfect dinner, the perfect speech, the perfect ring. The perfect spouse. He would have it all.
Mammon
The fastest of his brothers, Mammon saw you land that blow on whatever poor sap tried to touch Luke. The demon giving a pained wheeze as they hit the grass of the mall. He could barely hear the little angel celebrating behind him as he rushed up to you and wrapped his arms around your waist and his wings around your shoulders. Going on and on about how he had taught you so well. You were okay. You were more than okay! You had won! The question fell from his lips before he could even think to stop it, having been on the tip of his tongue for months. Mammon froze as his flush raced down his back, waiting to play it off as a joke if you said no. Hoping beyond hope he wouldn't have to. He had the ring in his pocket anyway, he even saved up to get that stone you liked...
Leviathan
Leviathan had been at school that day, somehow, though that didn't matter now. He was out of his seat as soon as he heard your aggrieved voice ringing in the air in that same tone you used to command him and his brothers with your pacts. By the time he had made it to you you were busy fussing over Luke, holding his cherubic face in your hands and looking him over with worry painting your features. He felt jealous now, if only a little, as he caught his breath and walked up behind you, wrapping his tail around your middle and nuzzling his way into the crook of your neck, mumbling everything between praise and fretting over your well-being. He never wanted to let you go again, he couldn't wait forever. Plans brewed in his mind of taking you somewhere special, maybe that beach you had liked... or maybe one of the many quiet corners of the Devildom where you two would hide away and chat the hours away... so many options. He couldn't let himself mess this up. Not this.
Satan
His tail lashing as he ran, Wrath itself raced down the halls as Satan came to your aid. Abandoning his book-bag in the library nothing crossed his mind as he focused solely on whatever piece of garbage had threatened his love. All of his thoughts of violence and retribution came to a crashing halt as he saw you, standing over the unconscious demon now bleeding into the grass. Luke huffed indignantly as he rushed to your side, clawed hand carefully running over your waist as he stares into your eyes looking for any hint of fear or pain. He found none, and pulled you into a kiss before smiling. He should have known better than to worry about you. Stronger than steel with nerves to match. Maybe he had been wrong when he had thought that staying with him would be too risky for you. You were the most amazing things in his world, and he was willing to do so much to keep that. He had plans to make now, and they would be perfect, just like you.
Asmodeus
Asmodeus wasn't usually one to be found running, let alone sprinting, yet here he found himself. His wings aiding him as he hopped over railings and ledges focusing only on reaching your side. To save you from whatever ugly low life would dare touch his darling. He didn't stop until you were in his arms, his fingers worrying at every piece of you as he babbled. He hadn't even seen the damage you had dealt to the demon, more concerned with every little hair on your pretty little head. It took a
few minutes to calm Asmo enough for him to stop preening over you before he saw what you had done. He tisk-ed as he looked over your nails and knuckles, covered in the fine dust of a magical spell. He took you then, back to his room so he could fix what you did to your lovely nails and hands. As he ran the polish back over your nails and saw the way you were watching him with that little smile on your face, he came to a realization. His hands stilled as the thought hit him, he had never wanted this before. There was always room for something new though, and you were the most welcome of changes he could imagine.
Beelzebub
Beelzebub had promised. That night he made his pact with you he promised to protect you, and he had already failed once before. Never again. Thankfully for him and the school buildings he was never far from your side nowadays. His demon form boiled to the surface as he sprinted to you from across the mall. Your fist slamming into the lessor demon before he had even made it to you. Their body hitting the ground as he came to a stop in front of you and Luke. He gave the angel a glance as he rubbed his knuckles and stared down at you. Your face lit up when you saw him, fist still raised as that sparkle lit your eye. Maybe you could protect yourself now, just a little. Beel frowned a bit as that now familiar warmth spread into his chest and onto his cheeks. You were so strong, and so amazing. He ignored Luke as he carefully picked you up and set to taking you to one of his favorite spots to picnic with you. A lunch date was in order after all of that, you had to be hungry right? And he had a conversation to have that would be between just the two of you.
Belphegor
Normally impossible to wake, Belphegor was attuned to your emotions now. His magic flowing through your shared pact telling him your emotional state at all times. Your rage had brought him back to the land of the wakeful, jumping from his nap spot near a heat register to run to you. Though when he arrived he had to laugh as he saw that lesser demon sprawled out stupidly on the grass. He could smell your magic on the air, the delicate spice of it tickling his nose as he sauntered up to you and tapped you on the head with his bushy tail tip. Look at that. You made him run all the way over here and for what? Nothing. Now you owed him a nap session, no fighting it. His fingers laced into yours as he lead you away from Luke, ignoring the chihuahua as he yapped away. His yawn covering his smile as he looked at you. You were stronger now, he knew that. Maybe now you would be comfortable to stay with him. He had a question or two, and he desperately needed your reply.
~~NOW DATABLES~~
Diavolo
Diavolos' thoughts were twofold as he ran to you. One, his mind desperately clinging to the hope that you were okay. Two, what student at his school was getting expelled for aggrieving that which was his. He almost ran into you as he came upon the mall, shocked for a moment to see your raised fist and the felled demon below you as Luke cheered for your victorious actions and quick thinking. Diavolo could feel the familiar hiss of your magic on the air and he carefully placed a hand onto your shoulder, asking quietly what had happened. He was shocked to find that you were defending Luke in much the same way as he had intended to defend you. His warm smile spread across his face as he grabbed your hand and kissed your knuckles. Another thing to add to his list of reasons for loving you. Another reason to propose the idea of letting the public know he had found someone he wanted to officially court. He could almost see the looks on the elders faces when they found out, and he couldn't wait to have your permission to announce that much to them.
Barbatos
You would have thought that Barbatos would have seen this coming with his powers long ago. Alas he had promised both himself and you that he would let you have the surprise and the enjoyment of your time together without the careful pruning of timelines. You had said that the little mistakes kept things
interesting. A fistfight on the mall was not a little mistake. Neither you or Luke were quite sure when he had arrived, nor how he got there. His gloved hands ran over your knuckles as he stood between you and the cretin who had dared threaten both you and Luke alike. Not only his love, but the angel boy he cared so much for. Before long the lesser demon was dragged away and you found yourself in the kitchen watching the two bake away. Barbatos letting Luke do much of the work as he thought on his feelings from the day. He couldn't bare to let anyone bring you harm or forbid lose you to another. Maybe a little dip into human tradition was in order.
Simeon
The angel had left you and Luke only momentarily to run back to a classroom and grab a couple of forgotten notes. Simeon was stressing already when he heard Luke yelling, that feeling boiling over into borderline panic as your voice joined his. Notes forgotten once again he ran back to the mall. His heels deafeningly loud on the stone as his mind raced. Coming around the corner he saw the demon on the ground bleeding. Your magic hanging languidly in the air. You with your hand on Luke's' back as you lead him away from the scene. The smaller angel babbling on about how you had showed that demon what was what. His hand fell over his chest as he let out a breath and jogged to the two of you. Simeons arm wrapping carefully around your shoulders as his other hand found your arm. He had thought he had the will to fight the urge to make you his. To save himself and luke the possible consequences. But seeing you defending the boy. Seeing you doing what you thought was right by your family. He knew that those consequences didn't matter, you were more than they would ever be.
Solomon
Solomon wasn't typically one for worrying. He knew that you had your pacts to keep you safe and beyond that you had the spells he had been teaching you. He couldn't help but worry though, as he heard your shouts and Luke's and the distinct crackle of a force spell being cast. A recent addition to your arsenal and you were already having to use it. He came to you as fast as he could, stopping the reaction he had been brewing safely before coming to you. The lessor demon was standing by that time, rubbing their jaw as they stood and wincing at the burns from your spell. Solomon found you sitting with Luke and Simeon at a bench as you regaled the tale to Simeon. He leaned against the wall beside you as you spoke and he waited. He waited for Simeon to meet his eye and take Luke away to Purgatory hall. He waited for the brothers to say their goodbyes for the evening. He had waited for over a month already, and tonight he would stop holding back. He was allowed to be happy, and so were you.

Clarke Griffin Appreciation Week 2021!
You heard right, it’s that time of year again! Did you know that October is Clarke’s birth month? What’s a better way to celebrate than to have an appreciation week? The show may have come to an end but that doesn’t mean we can’t dedicate a week to what we loved about Clarke. So the official dates of Clarke Griffin Appreciation Week will be October 24th to October 30th.
We will dedicate a prompt (see list below!) to each day and we hope it’ll inspire you to make some fan content in honor of Clarke. While these appreciation weeks tend to be gifmaker heavy, I’d like to invite everyone to join. Not a giffer? That’s okay! episode 12 thoughts
MOMMY IS MAD
sorry I was indisposed mentally yesterday. I have regained some mental stability so I am ready to talk about the show. buckle up I am about to go wild.
the episode opens where we left off, and as predicted Gorya remembers the reason why she can't be the official girlfriend, hello? Lita exists. our Lil Tiger forgot, though, which is equally funny and also concerning. did he not beg her to become his few episodes ago?boi is that amnesia setting in early? LOL. they have a cute moment of holding hands and Gorya admitting his puppy eyes are getting to her.
yeah. welcome to the club gurl. we have all been screaming! finally she is struggling to restrain herself. they stumble their way to the bed, which is kind of cute, when the BEST monologue occurs, Thyme uses the words virginity, foreplay and conception in one sentence and abuses the language to the point where he appears to be a sexual predator. lord I wish I knew Thai because I bet it was epic monologue that we missed out massive jokes in. nevertheless, Gorya wrestles him, breaks a vase all that jazz and auntie maid roots for Gorya in the Lita x Thyme showdown and crowns our queen Thyme's personal maid. applause ma'am well played.
things I loved:
the dynamic between auntie maid and Gorya, how Gorya was basically prepped for inhabiting the house and married life indirectly by learning the workings of the domestic side and how she was being indoctrinated to the household. the bridal vibes it gave me. trust me on this!
Kavin x Kanning story mirroring Ren x Gorya x Mira dynamic.
MJ x Ren visiting the house while Gorya is in her little maid outfit and MJ sitting next to Thyme on the sofa. y'all the bisexual energy radiating from MJ. OUCHIE.
Ren blushing at the supermarket. hard swoon.
THE FUCKING GARLAND IS BEAUTIFUL. new obsession unlocked.
Lita's scene with Thyme and her parents and Thyme
some symbolism:
the outfit Thyme wore to meet Lita's parents it reminded me of 'have your back covered' or when you say 'I've got your back' and Lita truly had his back in the fight. she was dressed in what appeared like a combat bulletproof vest. she was wearing armour, she was the one protecting him! amazing costume choice.
the maid plot she gets to see him in his natural habitat, he finally loses the air of mystery, is no longer a mythical enemy, friend or lost lover she never had. he becomes a real person and I think the maid arc sort of allows that to happen. she sees his life behind the scenes, develops trusts and understanding. Gorya also discovers the shirt her was wearing, and it is unwashed, he left it dirty, which is HUGE. imagine Thyme's state of mind when it happened. he was just humiliated in front of everyone, but despite that, he ket it, preserved her footprint, because it signified disruption, point of no return. a seismic shift. it's like he already knew her importance. if those little things don't seal the deal, then I don't know what else. her seeing him half undressed and all cute with his cat. all of those moments matter to her seeing him through a new lens and falling for him deeper, now that he has become worthy of her.
the fall / the fighting mirroring how Lita met Thyme and Gorya both of their interactions with Lita ended as they started and have thus complete a full orbit, circle whatever you call it.
things I am mad about:
1. no kiss between Gorya & Thyme *
2. whatever the fuck that kiss was between 2K
3. the MJ kfc ad... sigh
*as I have mentioned already, I know why it could not happen, I explained that in my preamble to this post.
now for the unhinged part...
so I was wondering why
they decided to lock them in the car,
why both MJ and Thyme are wearing chain bracelets,
why did Kavin carry Gorya to the car same way as he carried Gorya for Thyme's birthday.
Kavin was giving out kisses...
this show loves to mirror to show the development. it made sense to end Lita arc how it began, which tallies with carrying Gorya (thanks Kavin for being my favourite boi with MJ). also made sense to add Thyme as all tied up, because the restraint was constructed through Lita, with her gone, there is no reason to hold back. or is there?
well. I wondered about the car a lot. but like it got me thinking about how most of their previous reunions have happened through abductions, she was kidnaped twice and tied up to Thyme's house LOL, and it was his turn to be tied up. Also, in terms of privacy the car is literally the only option I guess.
plus it can signify beginning of a journey. like our ship finally sailing.
further to this...
I am still thinking about the bracelet MJ and Thyme shared and hmm. I am wondering. but I don't have anything sold, so I'll be back.
as for Kavin dispensing those kisses to customers. I think it demonstrates how easy it is for him to give physical kisses, but his heart - not so much.
overall. this episode had me hooked, I was on a cusp of tears and then cried when I saw Lita surrender. this was very much done out of not wanting to lose face. this was not a simple act of love, she plays the game until the end. she doesn't want to face Gorya, she sends her a video. I will fight you all on this, Lita decided to give-up Thyme, because she realised she lost him to Gorya and the only way she could release him was to be the one to break the engagement. everyone could see she was acting, putting on a show. she has earned Thyme's respect, and yes all the reasons she listed as the ones for not loving him, were the reasons why she loved him, but this version Thyme 2.0 was all credits to Gorya.
I am little disappointed how short the series are, as there is so much I would have loved to see them do, I believe they could even do the romance justice if they aired for more episodes.
people are saying things like 'oh I don't mind the lack of romance because there is so much symbolism'. bitch. this is romance drama. the metaphors are hallmark of quality of writing. we do not settle for crumbs in my household. we don't settle for GMMTV selling godamn cookies and necklaces.

I know Tu is pissed off. you go and watch her live. when she threw the necklace around before it went on sale? you all did not see hoe fake her acting was? are YOU BLIND?
are you??? because she is an amazing actress but the way she acted FAKE AF when it comes to the necklace during her live. please. wake up.
you think they don't see us get mad at GMMTV?
they saw the blind theory, she mentioned it for a reason.
