hi oomfies it's me again :> i keep apologizing every few weeks for being inactive but i will keep doing it because i feel bad ☝️🥹 my personal and academic lives have been in an upheaval for the last few weeks, and will probably continue to be so for the foreseeable future, so i'll be even less active these days 😔 but i just wanted to check in here so you guys know i'm not dead i'm just severely a stem major 🙏 miss and love you all!

Today's random anecdote that likely no one cares about:

During my undergrad ochem lecture, I sat in the second row. In the first row, there was a guy who always sat right in front of me, taking notes on his laptop. Weird decision for an ochem lecture, cuz you have to draw a lot, but he seemed diligent enough about it, and based on the glimpses I saw, I think he was pdf annotating the slides themselves so it worked out.

But the real reason he used his laptop every day was because he was, without fail, every lecture, playing Old School Runescape with half of his screen.

There was 0 slowdown in his pace, he fluidly clicked on whatever he was doing on OSRS and note taking with ease. It was graceful, almost.

Once, *minutes before a midterm*, I saw him waiting outside the lecture hall, sitting on the floor, with his laptop, cramming with half his screen... And mining in OSRS with the other. I chuckled, haha never stopped the grind and all that, but thought not much of it.

He elevated himself from funny lil guy to God in my mind when I saw him once, walking down a hallway between classes, holding his laptop with one hand and clicking with the other. Sure enough, I looked back as he passed by, and it was OSRS.

Never spoke to the guy, never knew his name. I wonder where he is sometimes. I hope he's doing well.

non-basic study tips ive derived myself as a stem major lol

going from easiest to hardest to implement

i have very big trouble with focusing and interest so a lot of this will relate to attention retention

- look up the problems on your past tests. chances are your lecturer is consistently pulling them from 1-3 sources (true for most intro classes)

-practice with a timer since day 0 of learning about a new topic. this will prevent you from short circuiting on the exam and forgetting all about the topic you've studied for hours

-as you are going through a problem, mumble your thought process as if you are ochem tutor 2.0

- if you can write in numerous languages, try taking lecture notes in a language other than the one they are provided in - this will force you to think critically about the material you are writing down

-leave. work. at the work table. dont think about assignments when you are spending time with friends or family.

-in general, the intensity of my background noise is inversely proportional to my stimulation levels usually i try to go ambient noise -> lofi/instrumentals -> study vlogs -> music with lyrics however, if you can take a break instead of listening to music that will make you more restless, it is better to do that

-usually, the boredom from practicing something boring does not feel as bad as realizing you have understudied that topic. persevere. you can do it!

Everyone knew Enid and Wednesday were a power couple. There was no way to deny it; they were both incredibly smart and, if provoked, dangerous. Willing to kill and die for each other if the situation arose. Anyone who dared try to get them separated was a threat

Maybe that's why they liked you. You didn't try to get them separated, you gladly partnered up with the both of them. Class projects, offering to bring coffee or lunch, or helping to carry groceries into their apartment. No hidden motives, just pure kindness

Although you were a normie, but they supposed they could overlook that part

"You like them too, right?" "They have some redeeming qualities that I find attractive, yes" "Perfect, I knew it"

Together they came up with a plan; get you to like them individually and then they could bring you into the mix. A flawless plan, really

Enid took to her usual flirting, which was pretty poor, but you seemed to take to it pretty well. She asked you to walk her to class across campus, or attend a frat party with her, and she even took you to a karaoke bar once. It didn't end well, but you both had fun

Wednesday, on the other hand, was far more subtle. She would remember your coffee order, or would help you with your notes, or sat beside you during class. There was even one day where she brought you flowers after your last class. She blushed and ran off before you could say anything

They kept it up for months on end with no stops. By the time summer rolled around and you were all finishing some studying for finals, they made their move

Enid admitted it first, stumbling over her words while you watched and listened with a raised brow and a hidden smile. Until Wednesday cut right to the chase and you finally let your smile free

"You guys weren't all that subtle, you know" "What do you mean?" "I saw Wednesday threaten the guy from Ochem. The one that always asks me out?" "Willa!" "He was in the way"
