✦ basically he has detachable metal cocks and he fucks you with a monster lookin one. . .not rlly proof-read just pure horny tbh im not rlly sorry for this lmao. thoughts are thunking, maybe i'll leave out the metal dicks next time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
currently thinking about which metal cock boothill fucks you with tonight. you think its absolutely absurd that his body was programmed so thoroughly this way, but it only just prompted the many more unique ways he got to fuck you.
it was also absolutely fanatical that his metal parts became so responsive to pleasure too. sure, they were attachments and they could come off, but you're really starting to wonder how scary it is with how life-like they become once connect to his body.
you discovered quick enough that he could ejaculate like any ordinary guy with a cock, and could even get you pregnant, if he wanted to. of course, the last one is just a theory, considering the idea only popped into your head once you found out he could force an orgasm.
but how on earth are you going to explain to your neighbour when they receive the wrong package in the mail, filled with an assortment of metal attachments that look exactly like cocks, showing up at their doorstep?
saying its...a funny hobby of yours would be a little too embarrassing, so after one encounter, you made sure to get your packages delivered when either you, or boothill, were home.
but tonight is the night, where you get to choose apart of this assortment, and how good your boyfriend gets to fuck you.
you're sitting up perched on the cotton bed sheets, legs tucked under your butt as you place one hand along the tip of your chin in eager thought. boothill is laying in front of you with his pussy out on display–well, what looks like one without any attachments anyways. maybe one day you'll discard the idea of metal cocks for one night and rub one off with him.
that too, was also a brilliant idea. but...tonight, your long-awaited, limited-edition one came in early, and you needed to try it as quickly as you possibly could.
boothill's legs were spread in front of you in anticipation for the one you'd actually pick, and he gulps mildly when you do pick the largest one there–for someone who wasn't getting fucked, he sure did seem a little terrified of its size.
you sort of giggle to yourself before picking up its weight, twirling it around under the ceiling light to get a good look and feel of it.
". . .baby boy, are ya sure yer can handle, that, size? why don't we start with somethin' smaller first- y'know...to get you warmed up-"
"why are you so scared for, hmm? besides i've wanted you to fuck me with this one since the day i saw it." your legs quiver a bit in excitement and you feel your clit throb hot once your awareness is brought to the ridges and edges on the shaft.
"doesn't it look so pretty?"
you bring it up to his face with gleaming eyes and boothill sighs, bringing a hand up to move it away from his face.
"fudge- i mean...alright darlin', if this is what yer want. but i can't promise i'll go easy on ya tonight then."
you give him this devious smirk before scooting further between his legs. "hehe, that's the whole plan though!"
as you proceed to attach the metal cock to him, you make sure to tell boothill to sit still. he does so very willingly and later jolts when it finally clicks in.
what looks like precum, instantly oozes out the top of the tongue-like crown and down the black-metallic shaft. you instantly feel the metal grow a bit warm between your palms, and it compels you to rub your thighs together when you see him twitch.
boothill lets out another puff of air before inclining into you and deflecting your attention from the metal cock. he kisses you affectionately and you kiss back, making sure to bare no teeth when inserting his tongue into your mouth. he then goes to grab your face, pressing more into you, before finally pushing you onto your back against the bed.
your body bobs with the fall and you smirk up at him, letting some of his hair fall around your head. while giving him a wide grin, you play with the baby hairs adorning the back of his neck when you wrap arms around him.
"are you sure you can feel anything with all these attachments?" you proceed to say, while rubbing a thigh against the cock.
boothill responds well by grunting with eyelashes fluttering momentarily. "why? yer tryna see if yer can have my kids or somethin'? don't provoke me pup."
"oh, yeah?" you say, both of your lips awfully close to each other, as if they were dancing.
without warning, boothill then flips you onto your back and rubs his new, shiny cock against your asshole, slipping each time he does. more precum spills out the top from this and he pants a little harder.
"yer said this one is self-lubricated, ain't it?" he questions the back of your head before you're putting the side of your face on the back of your palms, looking up at him.
"mhm, yup. so, you can slip right in and- NGH?!"
boothill obliges without you even need finishing the rest of your sentence, pushing the slim crown in, and each bump and ridge one at a time before bottoming out inside your cunt.
your, small, puffy dick rubs against the mattress, and it forces you to lift your hips into him, which, of course, you immediately regret once doing so.
"AH- shi- oh my fucking god...! fuck boothill-"
he can't quite explain it, but the way you restrict around him feels too real. like this is his own cock ripping you open. it drives him insane when he decides to pull out and sink into you again, as if each ridge of the metal cock had separate nerves of its own–he could feel everything, and he wasn't quite sure how long he'd last like this because of it.
boothill listens to your profanities before fucking you rough in prone bone, your legs slightly separated while his cold, metal thighs rubbed against the outside of your waist. the stark contrast of his body being so chilly and the cock attached to him so warm, made you shiver in ecstasy.
"ya feel so fudging good, i think i am going a bit insane." he pants against your ear before pressing more of his heavy weight into your back, the rest of his hair falling over your forehead when he brings a metal finger into your mouth.
"boothill-" you whine, sucking the cold surface, "try a little ngh deeper."
his eyebrows furrow as you squeeze him. "deeper? isn't yer sensitive spot somewhere here?" he pummels into you faster, and you swear you could see stars with how sharp the edges felt on his dick.
"oh fuck- i want it- ugh- yes, yes yes!! boothill!!!" you shriek out his name as your calves come up to to flail against the pressure he's putting against you.
"take it all, bebe. take it all."
boothill then flips you onto your side, bringing one of your legs up over his shoulder as the other one tucks under his own legs. this position allowed him to fuck you even deeper, places you thought couldn't be reached.
you're now able to get a clear picture of what sort of mess he was making of your cunt, a prominent bulge of him inside your stomach clearly showing on the surface with every brutal thrust.
boothill is surprised when he see's this as well, and his cheeks instantly flush a brighter red that causes him to accidentally cum inside of you.
you're not sure if him cumming without warning was what freaked you out, but the amount of cum he was pumping into you shouldn't be considered safe.
"fuck?! boothill?!" you choke on your words and look up at him, tearing your gaze from your puffy cunt. he then proceeds to lean over you, bending you in half, and placing one metal foot beside your head. this new position shouldn't even be classed safe, and you have a feeling that tomorrow your back will be hurting like hell.
but the immense pleasure he was giving you was unbearable–him taking advantage of how nice he felt overstimulated by abusing the nice spot inside of you.
you squirt over his dick with a cry, eyes shooting wide when you grab onto his metal arm for support.
"thats it, my good boy. yer doing so well, fudge. i think- i might cum again."
and he does, spilling the rest of his liquid inside of you as your toes curl from being fucked through your orgasm.
after a bit, boothill collapses into you, keeping his metal dick still sheathed inside of your cunt. when he lifts his head, he proceeds to trace the scars along your chest, biting and playing with your nipples with his jagged teeth.
you give him this dazed look as you wrap your arms around him and he gives you his signature smirk. you then groan and whince a bit when you realise how full your stomach is with his cum.
"are you trying to get me pregnant or kill me? fuck- maybe this was a terrible idea giving you a toy without restrictions."
"forget the the dick then, lets do it without it next time, yer?"
your eyes instantly open from this in excitement, "wait, are you for real!?"

Could I ask for an Alastor getting Hanahaki over Reader and everyone has to chip in to help him out? He's afraid of losing them as they're the only one who's never been afraid of Alastor (sure the Radio Demon part is creepy asf but Reader looks past it to befriend him) and would rather die alone then lose their presence.
The others figure out what Hanahaki is after finding him coughing up flowers one day and they each pitch in to help him through it; even Lucifer helps. And Charlie threatens Al with telling Rosie and Mimzy (you decide if they need to get involved)
Just everyone helping Alastor not second-die, him being confused as to why they're helping him and learning he has more friends then he realizes (and is nicer to them as it goes on) and also Reader being incredibly fucking confused as to what's been going on.
Sorry if it's a lot! And thank you in advance if you decide to write it ^-^

Hanahaki! Alastor x F!Reader
'A flower cannot blossom without sunshine, and a man cannot live without love." - Max Muller
Trigger Warning: mentions abuse, vomiting, near-death experiences, cringe obliviousness
Alastor knew he was feared among mortals and sinners. He was the equivalent of a boogie man, so to speak. He had no time for trivial things like love, relationships, or weakness. He had to be strong, always ahead of the game, and ready to take anyone who dared to oppose him. Well, that was till you came along. You were an enigma; he had heard about you when you appeared in the realm of sinners; however, you were fierce in the human world. Every man that wrongly touched a woman or attacked a woman was soon dealt with by your hand. You tortured them, strung them up, and ended their lives slowly. Alastor was impressed, to say the least.
However, when you turned up on the Hotel's doorstep six months ago, you were anything but scary. You looked innocent, almost too innocent. Alastor tried so hard to hate you to think nothing but the worst in you, but you had a grip on him. It's not every day that someone is entirely unphased by him. The day you two met was like nothing before; everyone in hell knew of him and his reputation. You even did, too; you had to have known of this since Rosie was the one who suggested you find refuge in the Hotel. Yet you looked up at him when he loomed over you and just smiled.
The Radio Demon was known for the catchphrase 'never truly dressed without a smile,' but somehow yours was just as off-putting as his, like you learned something no one else ever would. He enjoyed that about you. That you were so full of kindness and energy but also something so dark and twisted. Before Alastor knew it, he took you in as an apprentice. The end goal is to teach you his ways and your soul; well, that would be his. That was always the plan to create a powerful accomplice to assist in his dirty deeds, yet something changed over time.
Alastor didn't remember when he started protecting, defending, or even fighting for you. It all happened out of nowhere. He hated all of it, but he couldn't stop himself. Slowly, as time passed, he sought guidance for these newfound emotions, leading us to now.
Alastor made his way to the bookshop in town, the best place to get anything involving the damned and dead. These newfound feelings could be an ailment of sorts, perhaps. As he perused the books, he bumped into you, of all people. Shocked, he spoke, "Hello, doll, good to see you here. Are you catching up on some light reading?"
As he said this, he looked down at the book in your hand and noticed the book was covered in an arrangement of flowers. It's odd for being a book in hell for it to look so innocent and cheap. As he was questioning the existence of this book, you spoke up. "Alastor, what a pleasure it is to see you here! I was researching sicknesses and curses from the mortal realm when I stumbled upon this book. It's pretty, no?"
Alastor looked at you and the sweet look in your eyes and couldn't help but nod in agreement with you. God, if he truly existed, needed to help get him whatever cure was necessary for these stupid thoughts. Alastor took the book from your hands, observing the details, and flipped through the pages gently. He looked back over to you when he spoke. "Dear, why don't I buy this for you? If I remember correctly, you have a date with Ms. Rosie soon. I would hate for you to miss your confidential meet-up."
You nodded gently, smiling that same eerie smile as always, making your way out the door, not before leaving a generous tip for the demon at the counter. You were always kind and gentle to those who had done no wrong to you or your loved ones. Yet when someone wronged anyone close to you, they would coincidentally go missing. You were like a gorgeous rose with those incredibly thin secret thorns. Alastor went to the front soon after you and placed the books you two had found on the front counter. As the shopkeeper looked up to see the grinning radio host, he just ducked back down, minding his business. Alastor smiled, dropping some coins in the jar before returning to the hotel.
Once inside, Alastor made his way to his tower, ready to read the books that may cure these insufferable feelings he has been having towards you. The first book on the document, "Freudian Emotions," As Alastor read through the book, he couldn't help but be mildly disgusted and enamored with the literature. Who just openly admits they were in love with their mother? Who was the man who wrote this book? Deeming the book unsatisfactory, Alastor moved on to the next, "How to know understand your darker feelings". This book pertains to many of Alastor's emotions when he was in the mood to kill or harm. Only the chapter 'Lust' has mild insinuations of the random emotions he was suddenly feeling. Another dud he surely would need to pay that shop keeps another visit to request better literature.
As Alastor thought everything was lost, he noticed your book again. Taking a closer look at it, one would call it eloquent. The sage green cover was adorned with thousands of different flowers. The title reading, "Ancient Alments of the Flowers and Gods," piqued his interest greatly. As he skimmed through the pages, he saw countless excerpts about those who scorned the gods and curses placed upon them. One specific page really caught his attention, it was about an ailment called 'Hanahaki'. Someone with feelings of unrequited love would profusely vomit flowers till their feelings were requited. The other option was an intense surgical procedure that would leave the person affected loveless. Underneath a picture of a young girl with flowers around her and coming out of her mouth was a message. It was hard to make out; Alastor moved the book closer to his face.
Squinting closer at the message, Alastor mumbled, 'A Flower Can Not Blossom Without Sunshine, Just As One Can Not Live Life Without Love.' As those words left his mouth, his fate was sealed. A sudden urge to get sick overtook Alastor as he dropped the book on the ground and ran to the bathroom down the hall. There, he passed a confused Angel Dust, putting on more makeup in the mirror. Alastor made it to the toilet where he proceeded to get violently ill.....with......flowers. Flowers? Why flowers? As Alastor tried to process the turn of events, Angel Dust popped his head in. "Uh, radio man, you good? I don't think I have ever seen you get sic- Oh god, why are there flowers everywhere?"
Before Alastor could pop his head up enough to respond, he threw up more flowers. Standing up woozy, he washed his face in the sink before turning to the spider demon. "I don't know what's wrong. I read this book Y/N bought, and now I am seemingly throwing up flowers."
Angel nodded, lending a hand to the demon and helping him straighten himself out. The two started to head out of the bathroom when the woman herself appeared out of nowhere. "Hi, guys! Oh, Alastor, are you okay?" Concern was evident in her voice, and it was adorable when she worried about him.
Before Alastor knew it, though, he was pushing Angel towards the girl and returning to throw up some more. With some gentle words from Angel and a lot of persistence, finally Y/N left. Once she was far enough away, Alastor was freed from the clutches of flowers once again. Sighing, he turned to the spider demon, "Angel, good fellow, I need to find where I dropped that book."
Angel joined Alastor in the hunt for the book and kept Y/N away. Luckily, they made it back to the radio tower unscathed. Once the book was found, Angel and Alastor began digging into it. Nothing came of it except a simple smirk from Angel. "Alastor, do you have feelings for little Miss Y/N?"
Alastor looked at the demon, puzzled. What a stupid question to ask while he was here, vomiting flowers. Yes, he had some odd feelings he didn't understand right now, but nothing like what that stupid book described. Angel sighed, shaking his head, and went for the door. Alastor was in a panic, "Where are you going? Are you not going to help me?"
Angel turned to Alastor, "I'm going to get more help because you obviously don't realize what everyone has been seeing since the day that girl arrived."
Alastor looked at Angel quizzically as he left. Sitting on the floor of the tower, he thought about everything. He understood the explanation of the curse in that stupid book was about someone loving another who didn't return the feelings, but he had never experienced love before. Well, he had for his momma, but not another. Would he describe these odd feelings he had for you as love? While lost in thought, Angel appeared with Husk, Charlie, and Vaggie hot on his tail.
As Alastor was snapped out of his thoughts, a concerned Charlie appeared before him. "Alastor! Angel told us everything. Are you alright? Where is Y/N? Should she be here too?"
As the young girl's name left the princess's lips, the sick feeling happened again. He turned to his side and started to vomit more flowers. Everyone was in shock. When he was done, he turned and looked up at the others. Angel picked up the cursed book and handed it to the others for them to read. It clicked for everyone as soon as they got to the message at the bottom. Alastor was in love but didn't realize it.
Alastor sat weak and groggy, observing from the sideline as everyone huddled together. Rolling his eyes, he went to stand and go about his day when he was ushered into his seat by the group. Now, sitting in his hosting chair, everyone lined up before him. Charlie stepped forward, "Alastor, you are in love with Y/N!"
Again, as the name left Charlie's lips, Alastor doubled over, vomiting profusely. Flowers littered the room; all anyone really could think was that at least it smelt good. Angel placed his hand on the Radio Demon's shoulder and turned to Charlie, "Toots, I think we should avoid saying her name for now until at least we come up with a plan."
Alastor shook his head and looked up. "Where is she? I don't know what will happen if I see her again right now. Just her name is causing this. I would hate for it to be worse."
Everyone nodded. Husk said, "After Angel told me what was happening, I convinced her Rosie needed her." A sigh of relief was heard from everyone in the room. Alastor looked to the crew in front of him and spoke again, "I don't even know what love is, so why has that damned book cursed me?"
The group looked at each other and nodded, lining back up. Angel stepped forward first: "Exhibit A, When she who shall not be named appeared at the hotel, she was unafraid of you. You came to me later that evening and asked if your name was still prevalent in the demon community. When I confirmed it was, you stared at her for hours and kept mumbling, 'Fascinating, truly fascinating.'
Alastor blanched at the omission, not ready for the retelling of the last six months of his life. He couldn't deny, though, that having someone not immediately afraid of him was refreshing. Over the six months he had known you, he repeatedly tried to make you scared. Nothing happened, though. You always just smiled and went about your day with him.
Next up was Vaggie, "When we were all practicing for the war with the angels, and she was fighting with one of the cannibals, you asked me how her form was so perfect. You were enamored with her when I explained that she had to have been a fighter in one of her lifetimes. I don't think you stopped staring at her while she was practicing that whole day."
Alastor turned his head away from his friends, feeling a bit warm. He couldn't deny your fighting form was gorgeous. You were fierce on the field that day. Constantly slaying enemies, though you were beautiful in red, the Gold that adorned your face after you slew the angels was something else. Not to mention, you were the one who found him in the wreckage of the radio tower that day. You helped him and tended to his wounds before returning to the others during the rebuild phase. He vividly remembers how you were right there, so close yet so far.
Husk stepped up to the plate: "The night that she drank herself silly at the bar after losing Pentious, you sat with her the whole night while she talked. You never do that, and I would know. You even carried her to her room when she passed out."
It was confirmed that he watched you drink your heart out once the hotel was rebuilt. Crying profusely over the snake man. A part of him felt anger that you felt so strongly towards another, but it also hurt him to see someone he 'cared' for hurting. When you finally passed out, he realized how soft your features were. You were so calm and delicate but also so fierce and aggressive. He picked you up so delicately and carried you to your room across the hotel. When he laid you down, you gripped him and mumbled, 'Be safe, Alastor, please.' Hearing that, his heart was alight.
Finally, Charlie took center stage, " On top of all these instances, you've not once asked for her soul, nor have you made a deal with her, nor have you made any insulting comments."
Alastor stalled....was that true? He knew deep down it was. He continually lied to himself; he was only interested in you because he wanted your soul. Did he really want to force you into servitude, though? Everything came crashing down on Alastor so quickly. There was no way was he....was he...in love. As the pieces clicked for the Radio Demon he hunched over in the chair spilling his guts full of flowers out, this time they weren't just any flowers, they were Roses. He always compared you to roses, your beautiful soft exterior covered with those hidden thorns.
As the coughing of flowers ended, he looked at his friends. They all were smiling, waiting for him to admit it himself. Alastor didn't know what scared him the most: that he loved you or that all these people cared enough about him to remember such antics. Did these people actually have so little time in their dreary lives? "Thank you all for the trip down memory lane, though I understand I apparently love......her......how does this help my situation?"
The group looked astonished at the thanks but contemplated the weight of his words. It's great he understood, but how did you feel? You were an enigma to everyone, eager to help and lend a hand but keeping your heart close to your chest. Charlie, in all her wisdom, spoke, "Go to Rosies and profess your love right now! No woman can resist a sweet confession!"
Angel laughed, "Sorry, toots, but I would deny a man who went to tell me he loved me and then vomited on me."
Husk said, "At least the vomit is flowers that could be a plus if not mildly concerning for the girl."
Alastor listened to everyone's points; going to Rosie wouldn't do, and it would just be too much and embarrassing. He had a front to keep all these other demons in the realm, still had to know who was in charge. While everyone was deep in thought, the door to the radio tower opened. Everyone turned to the noise. Alastor, still sitting, couldn't see what was happening. "I heard from a little birdie's phone that we need a magical love confession!" Oh god not Lucifer, may an Exicutioner strike Alastor down now.
"Dad! Yes, Alastor needs an amazing proposal that won't be hindered by his uh issues." Charlie exclaimed.
"Oh, you are talking to the king of romance, baby! Here's the plan!"
~~~~~ Time Jump ~~~~~
A week had passed since Alastor came to terms with his feelings and realized he had more friends than not. However, this elaborate plan for each person in the hotel to try and get Y/N to confess she had feelings too was becoming too much. The symptoms of the Hanahaki were becoming too much. Her voice alone now was making him vomit. So far, each attempted love confession ended with the girl being overly confused and concerned about where Alastor was hiding. They usually were inseparable, but he had avoided her for a week since the bookstore.
This is where Lucifer's plan came to a head; see what he told everyone to do: get her to confess. In reality, he planted the seeds of worry and doubt in the young girl's mind. If she also loved Alastor, she would seek him out and confess herself. Maybe she was just as oblivious as the Radio Demon. The sweet, innocent young demon was starting to bear her fangs and claws, as luck would have it. Lucifer was an avid Kdrama stan. Of course, he knew how this troupe would play out and took the right amount of push from the group.
Alastor was also growing to miss you; the more he agreed with his feelings, the more he was worried about what you were doing if you hated him for disappearing, and if you were going to accept him. As the thoughts plagued his mind, a timid knock was heard on his door. Standing up and straightening himself out, Alastor opened the door. There you stood in all your glory. He could tell you hadn't been sleeping from the bags under your eyes, and you looked a little pale, probably from not caring for yourself from worry. He was so happy to see you, ecstatic that you cared! Well, till he started to vomit flowers again.
Panic ran across your face as you reached out to help Alastor; however, your touch only worsened things. The flowers were changing colors; rushing to sit him down, you noticed the book you had wanted to buy a week ago. Picking it up on the page it was on, you saw the term 'Hanahaki.' Reading through the page after noticing the girl in the picture had the same ailment as Alastor, you grew upset. He was in love with someone....who? You got to the part of the passage that has a message. 'A Flower Can Not Blossom Without Sunshine, Just As One Can Not Live Life Without Love.' As you spoke those words, Alastor grew worried. What if the same aliment that was affecting him now also affected you. Not only would he worry about your health, but he would know you didn't love him.
After a few minutes, nothing happened; Alastor didn't know how to feel. Were you not in love at all? While contemplating all these thoughts, the flowers came up again, so you didn't love him back; he would have to resort to some stupid surgery to be okay again. Coughing out the last flowers, Alastor stood, "I'll be fine, doll. Just leave me be."
"Who is she...or he...whoever?" He could hear the sadness in your voice. Why were you asking him who caused his ailment?
"Never mind....we should get you help.... or get you to confess something so you can live normally again." You were doing everything in your power to hold back the tears. Alastor reached out and moved some fallen hair behind your ear.
"Who do you want me to be in love with?" Alastor spoke timidly for the first time in his lifetimes since he was a child. He was afraid of your rejection, the illness, something, anything. You did so many strange things to him. As you looked up into his eyes and he saw the hints of tears forming, for once, he didn't feel like vomiting. Slowly inching forward, he placed a soft kiss on your lips. Gently, like at any moment, everything could be ruined.
When you kissed back, Alastor felt light. Once you two pulled away for air, he was prepared for more flowers. Your voice alone made him throw them up; he was worried about touching you. Nothing came. He looked down at you once more and smiled his signature grin. "Doll, I dare say, do you love me back? No wonder you didn't get cursed with the ailment when you read the passage."
You smiled softly at him, wrapping him in a hug. Things were back to normal again, and now, with you two together, hell had a whole new list of worries to deal with. Who knew the Radio Demon would only grow stronger once he found the love of his lifetime?
Underneath the stars, looking for a sign — d. osamu
Tumblr media
synopsis. dazai stops by your apartment well past midnight, seeking out to you for solace
content. pm!dazai, pm!reader, fem!reader, angst(?), reverse comfort, unestablished relationship, a mention of double suicide
notes. my writing makes me want to sink six feet underground cuz this looked better in my head :,)
Tumblr media
dazai thinks he shouldn’t be here.
not only was it past midnight but he has never appeared out of blue like this on your doorstep either.
with a quiet breath he knocks on your door. a moment passes and nothing happens. he expected this because why would you be awake right now? this must be his last chance to leave and the temptation to do so grows with each second. dazai doesn’t see a point in knocking for a second time if you really were asleep. yeah, he should go, stop bothering you and get a hold of himself. just what was he even—
as dazai is about to turn around, he hears the sound of fiddling from the door lock and freezes in place. were you not asleep?
the door opens and he’s greeted by your noticeably sleepy figure. so you actually heard his one time knocking through your slumber.
“osamu?” you break the silence with your soft, somewhat confused tone. while he did hear you say his name, all his mind could focus was on you. god how did you always manage to look so perfect? your hair is rather messy, your face seemed tired, you were wearing an oversized shirt with pyjama shorts that had strawberries on it. all of that and you still looked breathtaking to him. he then quickly realises that he needs to say something.
“hey, sorry i woke you up.” dazai responds shortly, hoping you didn’t notice his staring. you blink once then twice, his words not giving you any sort of explanation. “did something happen.? it’s the middle of the night right now…” you question while slightly leaning against the doorframe. he can hear the sleep in your voice.
“well, i guess i was wondering if you were feeling up for a double suicide?” a familiar, subtle yet playful smile appears on his lips, his tone calm. it doesn’t phase you in the least. your brows furrow and you give him an odd look, not falling for his antics.
“you think i’ll actually believe that? what’s the real reason?” you respond with a tired sigh yet the small concern is there. of course you wouldn’t fall for that, you knew him better than anyone else. but it was worth a try.
dazai isn’t certain what answer to give you right away. he swears his mind has gone blank the moment you appeared before him.
“can i stay here tonight?” he asks instead, dodging the question. his voice came out softer than he expected and he’s sure he seems pathetic now, the regret coming here slowly returning.
your brows raise a little in surprise. you were still sure something is up but the way how different he was acting from his usual self made you even more worried.
“you can but I can’t guarantee that my couch is the comfiest thing to sleep on.” you say after a moment, a yawn escaping past your lips afterwards. dazai lets out a breath he didn’t realise he was holding. he couldn’t bring himself to care where he was supposed to sleep, if it was at your apartment that alone is already enough for him.
he comes inside and when he makes it to the living room, you speak up: “i’ll get you a blanket and a pillow.” you mention before going to the bedroom.
dazai returns his gaze to your living room, noticing all the small parts of you decorating the space: different scented candles on your window sills, fairy lights hanging on the wall, a phone charger laying on the floor, a vase of lilies placed on the table and next to it a plate with a few muffins on it. reminds dazai of the time you told him how you sometimes liked to bake in your free time and that he should definitely taste them on another day. you really had a bright personality for someone who works for the port mafia.
even from far away and the room still being rather dark, he could tell they looked delicious and probably tasted even better. dazai believes anything made by you would simply be perfect. he has seen the way your eyes shine whenever you talk about things you’re passionate about and he feels like he could listen to you forever. just your voice was enough to make his day better.
you come back with the bed linen that you promised to get, setting it down on the couch. you almost immediately notice dazai’s glance directed to your muffins and a smile grows on your face.
“go ahead and try it, i promise they’re the best muffins i have ever made.” you say with a pleased tone, clearly proud of yourself. he turns his gaze back to you, letting out a soft chuckle. “i’m sure they are, i just don’t really have an appetite right now.” he’s aware that he hasn’t eaten anything in the past few hours because he just can’t bring himself to do so.
but dazai regretted saying that instantly, seeing how your smile faltered.
“that’s fine.” you tell him calmly and shrug it off but he knew that wasn’t entirely true. he really hoped you didn’t take this the wrong way since the last thing he’d want is to upset you. his lips part to say something but no words come out. however, you have already decided to change the topic.
“so, are you going to tell me why you’re actually here?” your eyes are tender yet a little serious at the same time as you look at him. you really weren’t letting that question go but he couldn’t blame you. you had every right to ask that.
a moment of silence passes before dazai replies: “felt like it.” it’s not like he can tell you the real reason. he’s not ready to explain how corrupted his thoughts were back at his dull and cold shipping container, how his own mind started overwhelming him and how he needed to leave from there just so he could breathe normally again. everything seemed meaningless and tiring before the thought of you entered his head.
he found the fact that thinking about you helped him calm down kind of ridiculous. over time he has gotten more attached to you than he likes to admit. you are the only person who has managed to get this close to his heart, heart that he thought was incapable of feeling anything other than emptiness.
your features softened after hearing him. dazai is not sure why because surely you have no idea what he was feeling. did his expression give him away? he hopes not.
“if you don’t want to tell me then just say so, okay?” dazai will never comprehend how understanding you were. he was being unfair to you and yet here you were not pushing anything out of him with that kind look in your eyes. making it seem as if he deserved any of that.
“anyways i’m going back to bed now. good night, osamu.” a yawn leaves your mouth as soon as you say that and you send him one last glance before walking to your bedroom. dazai replies with a quiet good night as well and you close the door behind you.
he sighs before putting his black coat away and deciding to lay down. he stares at the ceiling and even with closing his eyes from time to time, falling asleep is near impossible as always. and you were right, this couch is starting to feel uncomfortable. dazai lifts himself up and looks at your closed door. he guesses that about half an hour has passed since you left, you must be asleep by now. dazai can’t help but envy you for getting sleep so easily. the rest he receives is usually by passing out from exhaustion.
staying the whole night here was hopeless, he’s already aware of that. but then he gets a new idea. he stands up and stops in front of your door. dazai hesitates because what if you were awake? that would make this more awkward but he could complain about the couch and that’d give him an excuse. an excuse to sleep next to you.
he stops himself from dwelling on the matter too much and very gently opens the door. the moment he steps in, he’s greeted with your peaceful state, vague moonlight shining down on you. dazai can feel his heart swell because how is someone simply sleeping able to look this stunning? he slowly moves next to your bed, to the left side that had more space and, as carefully as he can, slips between your sheets. this is much more comfortable in comparison to your couch.
dazai lets his head rest against the pillow, his eyes locked on you since fortunately you were facing his side. there is a soft glint in his eyes as he gently tucks some of your hair strands behind your ear. your face features were even prettier close up and after a while he realises something. a part of him wishes to wake up like this everyday, your face being the first thing he’ll see, the chance to be this close to you. a true luxury that dazai thinks he would never be deserving of. after all, why would a person like you be with someone like him?
a subtle noise from you is enough to snap him out of his trance. he wonders if you’re about to wake up but before he could come to a conclusion, you shift a little and slightly nuzzle your face to the palm of his hand that was laying beside you. dazai’s body tenses as he isn’t sure if he should pull his hand away or not. there was no way that you knew he was here. looks like you just stirred in your sleep. he let out a relieved breath, gradually relaxing again. just the warmth radiating from you is more than enough to ease his worries.
dazai wonders if you know how much you mean to him. probably not. he could never express it enough anyway. but it also scares him because that means the world can rip you away from him in any moment and he literally doesn’t know what he’ll do if that were to happen. dazai told himself from the beginning that he should avoid you at all costs but he has already failed that part. you had him hooked around your finger in a way that you didn’t even realise.
he closes his eyes, now focusing on your touch and faint breathing. maybe if you are right next to him he could doze off for a little while. he can imagine your reaction once you’re aware he’s in your bed in the morning but it will be worth it. anything is worth it as long as it’s with you. dazai decides to make one small promise before trying to focus on sleeping.
he will definitely try your muffins later.
hope this was okay, thank you if you made it this far ^^
I don't think some people understand just how absolutely terrifying Mori is and I want to talk about it.
When you meet him it will most likely be in a casual place such as the street or the mall with Elise by his side, naturally. The little girl takes a swift liking to you and basically demands Mori to convince you to play with her and he obeys. It is honestly a little humiliating seeing a grown man beg for something like that but it is endearing in its own little way. Feeling bad for them both you agree and promptly make your way towards the playground where the three of you spend the day together, responsibilities be damned.
Before you know it, the physician and his daughter become something of a semi often occurence in your life.
Mori himself is silly - tripping all over his words, especially if Elise says something to him. There are times when the little girl says some of the most concerning things totally out of the blue but Mori always manages to shut her up, which feels out of character for him.
It feels like some sort of secret that you really should not hear but you decide not to pay any attention to it. Everyone has secrets to keep, a skeleton or two deeply hidden in their closets, you don't judge Mori for this.
He is greatly pleased with your easygoing attitude.
Mori often sits in his pitch black office, the scent of fine chocolates and cigarette smoke lingering in the air as his subordinates give him their reports but his mind is elsewhere.
He's half paying attention to the executive's words as he grabs a tiny heart shaped chocolate from the pristine red box, its surface shining brightly against the light that is lit close to him. He pops is in his mouth and savors the milky flavour, the sweet strawberry centre giving it that extra delightful kick which he oh so craves.
Mori indulges in the sweets and thinks of you as he does so. Yes, this is something you would love.
The gifts start pouring and pouring, each one more extravagant than the last. They range from fine sweets, good wine, beautiful clothing and letters which detail the senders feelings towards you. The sender never bothered to sign the letters but always made sure to add something like I'm always watching or Sleep well.
It was creepy.
You tell Mori about some of the gifts that are left on your doorstep but never go into full detail as you're too nervous of scaring him off. The older man always somehow manages to laugh the entire sitation away and tells you to not so worry so much. Don't you know that some people would kill to have someone so helplessly in love with them? He sits on your couch, legs crossed and with a cup of tea in his hands, which you served him of course. You talk and talk and his words give shallow comfort especially as time goes by.
Was he being too forward? Did the gifts not suit your preferences? With a sigh he just waves off his men, all while thinking to himself "Ridiculous, of course they love it!"
Mori thinks you're just shy. You just are not used to someone paying so much attention to you, especially to the extent that Mori is. He has eyes and ears everywhere, your apartment is under constant surveillance and not to mention that the apartment itself is bugged, allowing Mori to hear you speak and do your other daily activities.
He knows you better then you know yourself.
It does not take Mori insert himself in your life in more personal ways. No matter who, Mori always somehow manages to make the people around him look worse than he is and in a flash he orchestrates the downfall of your whole entire life. You lose your job, your home, your friends and family no longer speak to you.
Some, if not all are dead but you don't need to know that.
That is when he comes to you, when you are at your weakest, your most vulnerable. He drops the silly act like a mask and his true colours are exposed.
Mori Ougai is a monster.
But, would you rather sell your soul to a monster or be left in the streets alone, unloved and penniless? Truly, your life would be so much easier if you just submit to him and look, you don't even need to do that much! Eat the food he feeds and wear the nice clothes he gets you and you will be golden!! Just, be still and pretty, alright?
It's honetly so jarring to see Mori's personality shift - one minute he is the silly doctor you met and grew to like, the man who says dumb things in order to make you laugh, the man who was willing to beg on his knees for you to just please, wear this cute outfit, it is going to look so good on you he promises!!
And yet, the next moment he is cold, cruel and calculating, the head of the Port Mafia. He is a man of his word and his subordinates greatly admire and fear him, yes, fear. Do not forget that Kyouka literally started shaking when she saw him after she left the Port Mafia, almost everyone who is in close contact with the man is never the same person they were once before. He will make himself out to be the best possible option and you know that he is the reason why your life is in shambles but that's not even the worst bit.
It is the fact that you have two options. Do you go to the streets and die in the darkness, be it from starvation, dehydration or murder? Or, do you stay with Mori who all but guarantees your safety and comfort, under the condition that you can never leave?
He knows you hate him and he is perfectly content with that. You will choose him in the end, you always will.
That is what keeps you both up at night, one with glee while the other with terror.
the gang x motherly!reader
1.i did headcanons i hope thats okay😭
2.fem!reader
3.swearing and a small mention of violence.
Tumblr media
Johnny Cade ;
like i’ve said before in other fics, he loves you so much.
honestly, you might be one of his favourite people!
when he walks down the street and he just so happens to see a cute flower, he picks it and gives it to you!
when he first met you, he refused to see you when he was injured in anyway. he thought you’d think he was weak and never see him again.
but as time went on, and you showed that you genuinely cared for him, he showed more of his vulnerable side.
johnny likes it when you patch him up now!
he thinks it’s calming, relaxing, and a, ‘nice change of things rather than lettin’ mother nature cure it.’
when he unknowingly/accidentally vents to you about his home life, he does get embarrassed.
he didn’t want you knowing, but when you hugged him real tight and told him sweet nothings?? he teared up ngl.
johnny wishes you could’ve been his mom.
when or if you have kids, johnny wishes they don’t take the, ‘how was your day?’ and the, ‘how’s school going?’ for granted.
because to johnny cade, that would be his perfect fairytale.
having someone as sweet as you to turn his life around, makes him excited to see tomorrow.
Dallas Winston ;
another bitch with mommy issues who is glad to have you.
mrs.curtis was definitely the mother he never had but always wanted and when she died, he was devastated.
but when you came along and started being that mother he missed??? he was both annoyed and over the moon.
he didn’t like that every time you bailed him out of jail, he got an ear full. however, he did like to know verbally that someone cared about him
he doesn’t show you any sort of affection, but he will tell you how he feels when drunk.
“thank you, so much y/n. i-i don’t know where i’d be without you.”
for mothers day, he doesn’t do anything special.
BUT—you didn’t hear this from me, before the clock hits 12, expect to hear like a cute little knock at your door, and open it to see a single flower on the ground with a pack of cigarettes.
dally ran off before you or anyone else could see him.
even though he didn’t sign his name, you knew it was from him. so, next time you see him, say thank you.
Ponyboy Curtis ;
he’s like a toddler around you???
ponyboy definitely pretends to be like, your own bodyguard.
but really, who’s scared of ponyboy?
he tries though!
when he watches a movie and some character reminds him of you, expect that to be the first thing he tells you.
“ya know, when i went to the drive in, you really reminded of this one character.”
“oh? why’s that?”
“well because-“
and now you have to sit there and listen to him.
he’ll draw for you so much :(.
if you tell him your favourite flower, he WILL give you a drawing of it the next day. he’ll stay up all night if he has too!
Sodapop Curtis ;
he’s literally your #2 fan. first place goes to johnny.
he’s your biggest hypeman??? omg???
“gee, y/n! you’re lookin’ real fancy!! gonna get all the guys, eh?”
when ponyboy and darry argue and he just can’t take it anymore, he calls you and asks to come over.
and of course, you say yes everytime.
so please, PLEASE, just let him cry into your arms!!!!
when he’s done, he’ll try to go home but i’m begging you to tell him he’s welcomed to stay the night.
and if he does stay? ponyboy will be at your doorstep too.
he’ll share his famous chocolate cake with you!! he’ll make sure steve doesn’t touch it.
“STEVE THAT WAS FOR Y/N! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!”
“OH SHIT SHIT SHIT! WE MAKE MAKE ONE TOGETHER! THE MORE PEOPLE THE FASTER THE CAKE WILL BAKE RIGHT?!”
“DO I LOOK LIKE A SCIENTIST??”
Darry Curtis ;
he is so thankful for you i legit can’t stress that enough.
you keep the gang in check, you keep ponyboy happy, and you help him around the house. what more could he ask for?
you legit force darry to relax while you look after the gang to make sure nothing bad happens.
“we’ll be fine, darry. go to bed, your dark circles are gettin’ darker by the minute.”
“yeah super-man! we’ll be fine with y/n!”
“yeah!!”
“fine, but if she wakes me up to tell me about any of you, so god help me.”
if you welcome him home with a newspaper and his favourite cup of coffee after a long day at work, he might ask you to move in.
Steve Randle ;
steve pretends that he doesn’t like you that much.
but he really does. like, the second he hears some soc threaten or insult you? he’s after them.
shit, he might be chasin’ after them in two-bits car while two-bit yells at the person.
he will legit go to war for you if you asked him nicely.
he will rant to you about cars if you let him😭.
he’ll rant to you about anything, honestly.
“and then the old bastard asked for a refund! the ‘no refunds’ sign was right on the door! how could that old bat not see it?!”
“steve! don’t call people that, but yes, it was very rude of that man to do that too you.”
“RIGHT?!”
Two-bit Matthews ;
he forces you to relax and watch mickey mouse with him.
he says it’s for your own good but when really, he just wants to spend time with you without the gang interrupting.
“guys! you’re stressing her out with all your STUPID questions! c’mon, y/n, mickey mouse is calling our names. can’t you hear it?”
“or maybe its the booze you had at 10AM.”
“i will sock you in your fucking throat steve.”
he plays with your hair…he finds it fun!
please tell him how to do some styles so he can go home and impress his little sister :(.
he offers you beer every once and awhile just so he can say he got you to loosen up.
“so y/n…you want some?”
“oh! no thank you, two. you know i don’t drink.”
he calls you mom in a joking way, ya dig?
“momm! steve called me a dumbass!”
“steve, be nice! apologize.”
“what the fuck?!”
author notes ;
1. i like totally rushed near the end LMFAO.
2. i never thought you bitches would eat motherly!reader up like this??
3.are you guys okay??
4.THANK U SWEETHEART OMFG??
5.i think theres no romance??
Hiii! I hope you're having a good day. I absolutely adore Husk, I just wanna smother him with hugs 😆
Could you write one with him and reader that takes place the night before extermination day? They love each other but are scared to admit it. Ultimately Angel Dusk convinces him to confess since 'tomorrow is never guaranteed'.
Lots of fluff and love please! Thank you! ❤️
“ I don’t know what to say..”
Husk/Reader fluff before the Extermination. Not long.
Word count: 842
———————————————————————
-> Content: Fluff, I hope this is tooth-rotting fluff, swearing, mentions of dying, not-proof read (we die like Adam)
-> Author’s note: My first request! Ajdjdgj. I don’t think I’ve written fluff ever, but I swear I tried my best. Tysm, Anon! I’m having a great day.
———————————————————————
Husk hadn’t been interested in making his feelings known during his life and that was all the more prevalent in death. When living in a place like Hell, you gotta be safe, keep your card close to your chest or someone will take advantage of you. He knew that all too well.. but it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have certain soft spots..
He liked how you were so genuine, it’s part of what he loves about you. He knows he loves you- he’s good at understanding people and that includes himself. Even if it’s something.. that’s hard for him to admit. Something about the prospect of letting someone in like that is unnerving.
There was only a day left until the Extermination. The rest of the hotel residents were celebrating, trying to live it up before the battle tomorrow. There were some residents who were calmer.. one was Angeldust or well.. Anthony. He appreciated the change he saw in Angel.. Though in the moment with Angel at his bar, he knew the other could tell something was on his mind.
“ …you thinking about tomorrow, whiskers? It got you worried?”
“ ‘Course not. I’m just thinkin’ of how we might run out of booze at this rate.”
Husk laughed the question off, gesturing the empty bottles around the bar. Angel knew that he was lying. With the entire exorcist army about to be on their doorstep, there was practically no chance any of them would making it.. even you. He both loved and hated that you’d be fighting by his side. He loved your passion, the way you wanted to protect your loved ones, but that’s just it: he wants to protect you. You’re safest far away from there.
“ That’s bull and you know it. You’re worried.. but I don’t think you’re worried about you. I think it’s someone else. Someone special to ya~”
As he danced around outright saying the name, he gestured with all four of his hands over to you. You were wrapped up in a conversation with Cherri Bomb at the moment, talking about who knows what. Husk’s gaze followed Angel’s movements… he wasn’t wrong.
“ ……..………”
“ I knew it! You ain’t denying it.”
Angel had a grin on his face as if it was the most satisfying moment in his afterlife (though it certainly wasn’t).
“ You gonna make a move before it’s too late? Say something you need to?”
“….. I don’t think there’s anything I can to say. It’s.. complicated.”
Angel looked at him, taking the situation more seriously than he had before.
“ ….Husk, Buddy, tomorrow ain’t guaranteed. We both know it... so why not go tell your special little someone how you feel..? What’s there to lose?”
———————————————————————
The party had died down, most people were talking amongst themselves at this point… He had to gather himself to work up the nerve to go through with the confession. He knew that he loved you, he was almost positive you felt the same way, but that didn’t take the edge off of this type of deal. He took a breath before walking over to you..
“ Hey.. you mind joinin’ me upstairs?”
He wanted to be somewhere more private for this. Just the two of you.
“ I don’t mind at all.. something up?”
“ Nothin’ to worry about, doll.”
He guided you to the stairs. Once you two were at the top, he led you straight to his room.. you had never been in there. It was.. sort of nice. Certainly dingy. It’s exactly what you thought a man like him would have.
“ …what is this about?”
“ ……….”
He took a moment to figure out his words.. how can he say this? There are so many wrong ways to put it and the possibility of doing it right was slim to none.
“…..we might die tomorrow-”
“ I know that. There’s no where I would rather be than here. Someone needs to show these angels what happens when they pick a fight.”
You interrupted.
“ This isn’t about the damn fight- this is about you. Doll… I.. got feelings for you- I love you. I need you to know incase we’re both double dead tomorrow..”
He was almost surprised to hear the words leave his own mouth much less the surprise you felt.. your eyes met his in the moment after he confessed. There was a silence.
You had felt the same way, how couldn’t you? But putting it to words and saying what you both knew aloud..?
“ I-”
Husk couldn’t finish his sentence as you moved, tightly hugging him. You could feel him loosen up slightly, he had been so tense.. slowly he hugged back.
“…I feel the same, Husk.”
He smiled a bit.. his wings wrapped around you, pulling you closer. It was like you two were the only people in all of hell and that’s the way he likes it. You’re one of the best things that’s happened to him.
Tomorrow may not be guaranteed.. but you two will always have tonight.
do you think i have forgotten (about you)
Tumblr media
a part two to come pick me up.
summary: eddie finds himself out of jail and right back on your doorstep. running from his past while trying desperately to fix the mess he had left you in only leads to complicated situations.
a/n: so this is actually not what i had expected to post lmfao but similar to part one i reread this in my drafts and literally fell in love.. like it needed to be posted.
18+. smut, smoking, drug and alcohol use. mentions of jail and creepy therapists. angst.. sweet sweet angst. as before, this is stevexreader however this part is way more about eddie and r.
you can’t lie. the last few months had been pretty tough, on both you and steve. through no fault of his own though.
you were just.. unwell. perhaps you always had been and the process of seeing someone you regarded as your best friend beat the shit out of someone and subsequently be jailed for it had brought all those feelings up.
‎♡‧₊˚
not to mention the emotional toll of him dipping in and out of your life and the countless other reckless shit he’d pulled you into before.
currently things were stable, yours and steve’s relationship was good, you were going to work and succeeding in being mostly sober. a little help from a short stay in a psychiatric ward and some nice new pills had you feeling semi-okay again.
it had started not long after eddie was sentenced, you’d sat in the docks of the courtroom and watched the judge bang the gavel down as he was sentenced to twenty four months. it stung knowing that he’d gotten himself in this position because you’d dared to kiss your boyfriend in front of him.
nevertheless, a few short weeks after the horrid court date you’d suffered a complete breakdown at a party. throwing anything you could get your hands on, sobbing hysterically as steve tried his best to calm you. right in front of everybody, their gawping eyes prying as you were escorted out by the police who had then issued a caution and had recommended to the judge that you needed some sort of mental health intervention.
at the time it was humiliating. the worst part being that it felt like everyone around you was walking on eggshells, trying to coddle you and tell you that it was all okay. you’d known it wasn’t. maybe it could be, but for right then, no.
coming back into the apartment and the real world had been quite frankly, awful. missing the safety of the ward, you couldn’t hurt anyone in there.
steve had been your saviour through it all. making sure he was there for every visit with a great big smile on his. he was gentle, giving you your meds, making sure you were eating and he’d even found you a job, helping you apply, christ he’d even ran through a mock interview with you, putting on a deep voice and asking you silly questions.
and do you know what?
eventually things got back to some sense of normality. braving your first gathering, trembling as you walked through the door, terrified that everyone would hate you only to find that all anyone had really cared about was making sure you were well again.
and that lands us here, finally finishing a dragging shift and traipsing home to collapse into bed to wait for steve to get home.
except, nearing the front door you notice it’s cracked open slightly. the door handle looks busted and you’re ninety percent sure that either someone was currently in your apartment or had been in and ransacked it.
you push the door open with one finger, it freaks loudly as it opens slowly, startling the intruder who curses and drops whatever they were holding.
‘you have five seconds to get the fuck out,’ you warn, creeping from behind the door frame nervously.
there’s a figure stood in the middle of the room, back turned to you who very slowly puts his hands in the air, surrendering.
he turns to face you, a shit-eating grin on his face and you finally recognise the cocky face staring back at you.
‘eddie?!’
he breathes a sigh of relief, ‘holy shit i was startin’ to think you’d moved out and i’d just broken into some strangers apartment,’ cackling as his arms outstretch to hug you.
‘what the fuck- what are you doing here? you’re supposed to be in jail!’ in utter disbelief that he was stood before you, debating whether pinching yourself would wake you up from this strange dream.
‘i got out! duh,’ he grins, making his way towards you, arms still outstretched.
‘you.. you got out? what? you’re not supposed to be out for like another year.. i don’t- i’m not understanding,’ carefully wrapping your arms around his shoulders as he pulls you into a hug.
he felt stronger, sturdy as his arms wrap around your waist. the hug lasts for what feels like an eternity until you back to properly examine his face and to once again check that you weren’t hallucinating.
‘i can’t believe you’re actually here.. how are you? i’m sorry i’ve been.. busy,’ trying to recover over the last few months had meant that you’d sorta neglected eddie, his last letter still in the clutter on your desk somewhere.. unanswered.
unfortunately for him, you’d had a few more important things to focus on. like trying not to break down and keep your relationship with steve afloat.
‘i’m good, i’m always good.. what’ve you been up to? i missed your letters,’ it was a simple statement but you’d never truly comprehend just how much receiving anything from you had meant to him, how much it kept him going.
you let go of him fully, motioning for him to take a seat, ‘it’s a super long story..’ sighing as you jam the bursted door shut, steve would have to look at it on his day off.
‘well it’s a good thing i’ve got time,’ collapsing into the cushions, making himself right at home.
-
you and eddie are sat on the couch smoking when the key turns in the door and steve walks in, looking just as exhausted as he did when he left this morning. the tiny shadow of a smile that was on his face is dropped the second he see’s eddie, replaced with a state of pure confusion.
‘what the fuck?’ he exclaims, dropping his bag onto the floor as eddie clambers off of the sofa to greet him.
steve’s face is a picture, eyebrows knitted together as eddie’s hand claps his back, ‘you’re supposed to be in prison?’
eddie pulls back, holding onto steves shoulder’s, ‘and you’re supposed to be happy to see me,’ faux-offended by steve’s confused stature.
‘no.. i am, what? why are you out?’
eddie shrugs him off, coming back to the couch, ‘ehh it’s a long story.. come.. sit, how was work, big boy?’ taking the spliff from your outstretched hand to offer to steve.
steve plonks himself down next to you, placing your legs over his thighs instead of the couch, ‘yeah.. it was alright, i’m sorry- why the fuck are you in my living room and not in federal prison?’ taking the burning joint from eddie’s fingers.
‘i got out,’ eddie offers back, the exact same thing he’d said to you. you had come to the conclusion that his departure from jail had perhaps not been entirely legal but it was way easier to brush it off rather than trying to probe him.
steve narrows his eye’s, obviously also not buying his bullshit but decides instead to smoke whatever had been handed to him, humming as he exhales a thick cloud of smoke.
‘i said that he could stay here.. just for a few days, if that’s okay?’ you ask, looking up at your boyfriend with hopeful eyes.
he pauses, contemplating if harbouring a, presumed, escaped convict was really a great idea, ‘uhh.. yeah i’m sure a few days is fine..’ he didn’t sound so sure himself.
‘thanks man,’ eddie nods, eyeing the door to his old bedroom.
the thing is, when eddie was convicted, his uncle had come to collect most of his stuff, taking it back to hawkins in his van. you’d thought he’d be locked up for at least two years so sending his things back to hawkins was the smartest idea. that meant when you guys moved out, you weren’t left to deal with his mountains of crap.
you catch him looking, feeling a tad guilty that he’d come back to nothing, ‘the bed’s still in there but.. it’s mostly storage now,’ scrunching your nose as you grimace.
‘that’s alright.. anything’s better than prison,’ he jokes, offering a saddened chuckle.
‘yeah.. exactly,’ not that you had much idea what prison was like, but from what eddie had told you, your living room floor would be an improvement.
the three of you spend a few hours right there on the couch, listening to eddie’s tales from jail, entangled with your stories of all the thing he’d missed. steve nudges you at some point, muttering something about bed which you agree with, rushing around to find eddie a spare blanket.
‘you’ll be okay in here?’ you ask, poised in the doorway.
‘yeah it’s great.. thank you,’ he smiles, sitting down on the edge of his old bed, peering around the now mostly empty room.
it felt a little suffocating if he was honest, the sheer amount of memories these blank four walls held. he swore he could hear echoes of your laugh from the times before, remembering the nights where you’d stumble back here and subsequently pass out in a heap on his bed. he shakes his head slightly, ridding himself of the thought before it got too deep.
‘okay, well.. goodnight,’ flashing him a tight-lipped smile before closing the door and making your way to your own room.
steve is stood facing the window, already stripped out of his clothes, ready for bed. he spins when he hears the door click shut, walking over to where you stood undressing with a grin, hands finding their place on your waist.
you hum at the feeling of his palms on your skin, ‘what’re you doing?’ shimmying out of your horrendous grey work trousers.
his lips softly press against the back of your neck and maybe it’s the weed or maybe it’s spite but he can’t help himself, fingers coming down to mess with the waistband of your panties. placing your hand over his to stop him from going any further.
‘we can’t,’ you hush, acutely aware that eddie was just a few doors down and would most certainly hear.
‘we can.. you’ll just have to be quiet,’ murmuring against the back of your neck, your hand doing absolutely nothing to really try and stop him. ‘can you do that for me?’
he travels further down, past the flimsy waistband, feeling his smirk widen against your skin as you sigh softly, sliding your hand onto his forearm, using it for leverage while his middle finger begins to circle your already sensitive clit.
your sex life hadn’t been what it was in the beginning, both of you busy with work and mental health crises that it was now more of a rarity to find the time. it’s not really lost on you as to why steve is so eager for it tonight but you couldn’t help but to feel at least a little turned on by this sudden bout of possessiveness.
your eyes flutter closed as he adds another finger to the equation, letting your body lean back against his bare chest, ‘my god,’ you moan softly, leaving crescent moon shapes indented in his skin.
‘hmm? is that good, baby?’ his plump, pink lips pressing gentle kisses to you neck and shoulders, teeth grazing the agile skin. he’s unforgiving and really not trying to be quiet at all.
it was definitely spite.
you can feel his erect cock against your ass, unknowingly writhing around, brushing up against him. his fingers hastily leave the safety of your now sodden underwear, manoeuvring your body to face him.
‘you’re such an asshole,’ you hush, gripping onto his arms for balance, walked backwards towards the bed.
a menacing smirk plastered on his face as he falls on top of you, knowing full well that eddie could definitely hear your soft pants and the way your lips echoed his name. stevestevesteve.
his fingers are brushing the hair from your face, making sure you were looking at him. it’s disgusting how attractive you find this. steve wasn’t usually one for such outward jealousy but you couldn’t say you hated it. legs wrapping around his torso after he had slipped your underwear off.
you don’t even attempt to conceal the whimper that ripples through your throat when he slides into your cunt. gripping onto his shoulders as the bed begins to creak, headboard knocking into the dry wall, unapologetic with his movements.
completely unashamed.
-
you’re eternally grateful that eddie doesn’t mention anything the next morning though he avoids steve’s eye and keeps his head low until he leaves for work. breathing an almost undetected sigh of relief when the door clicks shut.
the pair of spend most of the day lounging on the couch in front of the television, watching the overdue videos steve had neglected to return. the darkness eventually creeps up on you. the moon shining through the windows.
‘c’mon.. let’s go out,’ eddie nudges your knee with his, a devilish grin plastered across his face. he’d been bored shitless all day, as much as he enjoyed the mundane with you.. he wanted to go out. feel that rush through his veins as you got into something you shouldn’t.
‘i shouldn’t.. i’ve been doing good lately, it’s.. i can’t,’ sinking further into the sofa. you wanted to go out, really. but you and eddie going out alone together was a recipe for disaster.
‘and that’s why you deserve a treat.. c’mon, i know you want to,’ egging you on, now poking your knee with his finger, his other hand gripping onto the warm beer can.
you ponder for a second, pursing your lips as you weigh up the pros and cons. you don’t have to get wasted.. you could go out with eddie and be back before steve got home from work. yeah. you could do that.
‘where?’
eddie’s smile widens, he’d anticipate a hell of a lot more nagging and pleading than this, ‘fucking.. anywhere, the night is young and so are we.’
‘okay.. but, we’re having a normal night.. nothing crazy and i wanna be back here before steve is, got it?’ raising your eyebrows as you down the last sliver of wine.
‘absolutely.. whatever you want,’ eddie chuckles, slapping his knees as he stands from the couch, ‘c’mon.. get dressed.’
you stare up at him for a moment before getting up from the couch and slinking into yours and steve’s room. he wouldn’t be happy about this but if you were home and in bed before he was, he wouldn’t have much to complain about and if he did, he’d get over it.
and hey, maybe you could prove to him that you were okay now. that you were ready and able to handle things on your own.
-
everyone goes absolutely crazy when eddie walks in, almost as if he’d been locked up for a year. there are a few unhappy murmurs, worried onlookers who had been there that night.
but he doesn’t seem to care, shaking hands and chatting to everyone that came up to him. people handing him cups of mystery liquor which eventually got passed onto you.
you’re perched next to him on the couch, drinking the vile tasting liquid without a second thought. the odd person still coming up to him in shock, asking all sorts about what life was like on the inside.
and he just laughs and tell them the same generic story about earning his way and how eventually people listened to him. you doubt much of it is actually true but let him continue nonetheless. what did you know about prison?
bedsides, you’d seen the scars that now littered his knuckles and forearms. how his muscles had grown and the way his nose now bent slightly to the left. he must’ve done something to earn them.
your head is pretty fuzzy the first time the plate full of mystery white powder is passed around. respectfully declining and mumbling about sticking to drink.
but by the second time it comes your way, you’re glancing down at the porcelain with eager eyes. one tiny line couldn’t hurt, right? you still had plenty of time to sober up and get home before steve.
so you pick up the rolled up note, eddie’s eyes watching like a hawk, ‘hey.. you sure?’ his own jaw clenching from his previous line.
‘it’s fine,’ you nod reassuringly, holding one nostril and sniffing the pre-cut line, sniffing harshly. you’d forgotten how much it stung, making your eyes water as you pass the plate onwards.
you sit back into the couch, watching as the conversation roars around you. waiting for that sweet, sweet feeling when it finally hit.
and oh boy, does it.
one second you’re sat on the couch and the next you’re pulling eddie up onto his feet, trying to make him dance along to the pounding music with you. it all sounded so good. your body warm and loose. heart pounding in your chest as the beat vibrates through your limbs.
you’re not sure how long you’re dancing for, keeping your eyes closed while other people start getting up to join you.
not even questioning the second line when it re-emerges. still slowly sipping on what was now a dark liquor, bitter in taste, burning your throat on the way down.
eddie’s hand gingerly touches your waist causing you to pull your eyes to him. he’s dancing too, clutching onto the beer bottle, pupils dilated as they cling to you. cling to your body. moving in time with his.
everything’s a little blurry but you keep your eyes steady on eddie, smiling as the music distorts in your ears. it sounded robotic and weird but still had you wiggling your hips in time with the odd beat.
his other hand meets your waist, more confidently this time, pulling your body towards his. you think nothing of it, focussed on moving in time to the music.
eddie’s hand moves up to cup your cheek, the party bleating on around you as he tips your chin up towards his. a soft smile on his face as your eyes meet his fully.
the next few seconds happen so quickly that you’re not even sure if it actually happened.
his lips crash against yours, pressing himself to your chest, hand clinging to your cheek. he’s desperate with it, hungry and insatiable.
the magic dust you’d just inhaled must have softened your inhibitions because you’re kissing him back. palm pressed against his chest, fingers curling into his t-shirt.
until you finally realise exactly what you’re doing.
pulling yourself away from him, stumbling backwards as you blink up at him. had you actually just kissed him? no, why the fuck had he kissed you?
‘what the fuck are you doing?’ you exclaim, mind still hazy under the influence of whatever narcotics they were passing around.
your stomach twists. steve was probably sat at home waiting for you to get back, worried sick about where you’d gone. all the while you’re kissing his best friend at a party he had no idea was happening. it makes your stomach twist, guilt coursing through your chest.
you back away from eddie, tripping over another party goers outstretched legs as you go. head pounding, hands tingling. everything surrounding you had become a massive blur of flashing lights and distorted faces.
‘fuck.. wait!’ eddie calls out from the living room but you’re already gone, pushing past the gaggle of people in the hallway as you fumble for the doorknob.
the cold air hitting you the second the door is open, you hadn’t brought a jacket. or had you? you can’t really remember.
there are people strewn across the front yard, watching as you stumble down the path, fumbling for your phone in you pocket. the letters all jumble into one as you click through searching for steve's contact. slamming the green button the second you recognise the slight curve of the s.
he answers on the first ring, ‘hello? where are you?’ you’d missed the tens of missed calls from his number.
‘i’m.. i don’t know,’ sobbing into the receiver as one of the onlookers from the party approaches you, ‘where are we?’
from what you can make out, it’s a young girl, she looks worried as she takes the phone from your hand and places it to her ear, telling steve whatever street you were on. her spare hand reaches out to rub your back, keeping you close to her body as steve fucking sprints from your apartment to the address.
eddie makes absolutely zero attempts to try and find you, assuming that you’d already run off home. fuck it, he was out now. might as well prolong the inevitable argument with steve for as long as possible.
when steve arrives, he’s practically frantic, taking you from the kind girl as he leads you off home. his arm keeping your body held upright as you wail the entire way home.
‘steve..’ you sniffle, being guided into the empty apartment, ‘we kissed- eddie kissed me.. i didn’t mean to, i promise,’ clinging onto his neck as you’re lead into your bedroom.
he’s weirdly silent, placing you gently onto the bed, taking off your shoes before sitting down on the edge of the mattress.
‘have you taken anything?’ he questions, choosing to ignore your confession, for his own sanity mostly.
you nod into the pillow, sprawled out on the mattress as the room spins around you. it’s dizzying, and not just the room spinning but the fact that steve was still so gentle even after your admission.
‘what? what d’you take?’
‘i don’t know.. coke i think.’
he nods, swallowing the growing fury in his throat, ‘i’ll get you some water, try and sleep yeah?’
he goes to get up but you’re already grabbing onto his forearm, keeping him firmly on the bed, ‘don’t go.. please,’ your voice hoarse from the party.
god, you thought. you sound utterly pitiful, ashamed that even after all he had done for you, you couldn’t hold your shit together on your own and were still relying on steve.
‘okay,’ he whispers, kicking his shoes off and swinging his legs over and onto the bed, sitting up on the pillows rather than joining you properly.
his arm snakes around your back, lifting your body ever so slightly to slide his arm under, pulling you onto his warm chest. stubbly chin coming to rest atop of your head.
you nestle your head into his cotton shirt, ‘i love you,’ head rising with every breath he took, closing your eyes and attempting to fall asleep despite the fact it felt like there was something stabbing into the side of your brain.
-
steve’s sat, deadpanned on the couch when eddie attempts to creep back in. startled by his presence in the darkened room. by this time, the birds had begun to chirp as the first rays of sunlight crept through the blinds.
‘shit man..’ eddie clutches his chest, ‘you scared me,’ he fumbles his way through the room, still pretty intoxicated, lips sore from chewing on them all night.
steve blinks, scrunching up his face as the other boy takes a seat next to him. eddie’s sure he knows. you had definitely told him. jesus christ, why wouldn’t you? he fucked up. again.
‘you can’t stay here anymore,’ steve states, stoic.
he wasn’t letting much on here. eddie almost wishes he’d just beat his ass and get it over with at least it’d be better than this creepy shit he had going on.
‘bro.. i’m sorry, i was fucked up.. i don’t know what the hell i was doing,’ he’s staring wide-eyed at steve who’s staring straight ahead, jaw tense, ‘shit, punch me if you want.. god knows i’d deserve it.’
‘i don’t care,’ steve presses his tongue to the back of his teeth, ‘you come back and you fuck everything up.. do you know how hard i’ve tried to help her.. all these meds and doctors appointments,’ steve’s shoulder’s slump, ‘fuck man, i even had to take her to this creepy ass therapist and try not to beat the shit out of him every time i dropped her off.. d’you know how hard that was?’ he sounds desperate now, dropping the weird, unsettling facade, turning to eddie with a genuine look of hurt upon his face.
eddie’s mouth opens to reply, but he has nothing to say. hasn’t a clue how to answer that because he didn’t know. yeah, you’d told him about it and how steve hadn’t left your side throughout it all but he had no idea that this was how steve had felt.
‘no,’ steve scoffs, ‘no you don’t know.. because you weren’t there,’ he sighs before continuing, ‘you didn’t have to watch the love of your life be dragged away because some judge had deemed her crazy. you weren’t there week in, week out in that hospital.. helpless.’
steve wouldn’t ever think of you as a burden but fuck, he needed to tell literally anyone the shit he had bottled up and eddie was now the (un)willing participant to catch the brunt of his frustration.
eddie swallows, staring out into the dark room, ‘i didn’t know.. i’m sorry,’ he’s scrambling now, trying to think of something, anything to say that could help, but he can’t. in steve’s eyes, he’s the one who continually seems to ruin shit for you. ruin you.
‘so no, i don’t want to hit you because you kissed my girlfriend but i do want to fucking kill you for coming in here and messing her up all over again,’ steve spits, his words like venom as they hit eddie square in the face.
any traces of intoxication had been pummelled from his body, head beginning to pound from the impending hangover, chest heavy under the weight of steve’s words.
his eyes squeeze shut. he was a fuck up and he knew it. he wasn’t sure why he’d even done it. you just looked so pretty and blissful and.. and you’d smiled at him the way you used to and he’d thought that maybe that had meant something. the few seconds that you’d kissed him back had felt like euphoria, for the first time in so long everything felt right again.
steve interrupts his train of self-pitying thought by standing from the couch, turning to walk away but pauses, ‘i’ll help you find somewhere tomorrow.. maybe nance n’ all will let you stay,’ and even through all of this steve couldn’t help but be kind to the man.
that’s what hit eddie the hardest, that even though he had hurt his best friend.. he was still stood in front of him throwing him a line and offering a sense of patience and understanding that eddie hadn’t felt in far too long.
he watches in silence as steve slinks off to your shared bedroom, head hanging low in utter shame. he’d never admit aloud, and especially not to steve, but the thought of you was the one thing getting him through his sentence.
the first few months were pretty rocky, having to prove himself time and time again, resulting in a multitude of different injuries but at the end of the day, he’d climb into his bunk and re-read the letters you’d sent. thumbing the pages until they were yellowed and worn. the mere thought of you still thinking about him was enough to make him get out of bed each morning.
he peers down at his scarred hands, tracing over the glistening white indentations. they all told their own individual story, the big one that ran across the large part of his hand was the worst after being slashed with a makeshift shiv during a fight. he was quite lucky really, his hand had taken the majority of the damage and had meant he wasn’t left to bleed out on the floor.
so he’d gotten stitches, kept his mouth shut and things had started to change. and yet still, every night he’d go to bed thinking of your face, telling himself that it wasn’t long to go.
you were his saving grace. the only thing that had stopped him slipping into darkness. he’d thought about it plenty, hurting himself or one of the douchebag inmates he shared the small space with. at least that way he’d get moved into solitary, maybe he’d even prove himself to the other guys.
-
you keep quiet when steve comes into your bedroom, unsure of whether to let him know you had practically heard their entire conversation. the mattress dips when he gets into bed, exhaling softly and making sure the blanket is covering both of you.
he sits in silence for a moment, you can feel his eyes burning into your face before he eventually settles in and lies back on the pillow.
‘are you mad at me?’ you squeak, gazing at him from tired eyes.
your voice startles him, so sure that you were still asleep but he answers quickly, ‘no, never,’ turning on his side to face you, inches from your face. it felt so intimate like this, vulnerable.
‘i heard what you said.. i’m sorry for..’ your bottom lip wobbles and you try hard to blink away the brimming tears, ‘for putting you through that.’
he’s immediately comforting you, placing a warm hand on your sodden cheek, ‘you’re okay.. it’s okay, you didn’t do anything,’ steve’s gut twisted, he hadn’t meant for you to hear any of it and the thought of you feeling guilty for eddie’s sake pricked at his heart.
you nod, not completely believing his words but for the sake of not causing a problem so early in the morning, deciding to just accept it. no matter how much it had been parroted to you, there was no accepting that none of this was your fault.
‘it’s just the way your brain is wired,’ dr. foster had said during one of your sessions, ‘but i’m here to make it all better,’ his eyes were narrowed, carefully watching you from his leather chair.
the memory alone makes you shudder, he’d been all for this authentic, organic approach.. hosting the sessions in his home and perhaps at times, becoming a little too familiar. his hand patting your knee as you spoke, asking creepy questions about your relationship with steve and overstepping a shit ton of boundaries. he had these icy blue eyes that lingered on yours for too long, there was something deeply unsettling about the way they narrowed when steve was mentioned. the utter anger they held when you brought up eddie. oh no, he really didn’t like eddie.
he’d been the one to suggest that you slow down with the letters to eddie, telling you that focusing on recovery was more important. it had worked in his favour anyway, the letters becoming the least of your concerns as you navigated recovery.
nonetheless, he didn’t last long. you were still in that mellow adjustment period, getting used to the meds when steve had informed you that dr. foster was no longer going to be your therapist. something about a conflict of schedules but you weren’t sure how true that really was.
-
it had been a few weeks since you’d last seen eddie, unsure of where he was or what trouble he’d gotten himself into. maybe even a minuscule part of you was hoping that he’d got himself arrested, at least that way you’d know he was safe inside and not wrecked in a ditch somewhere.
for the most part, you’d managed to put him to the back of your mind. it was only when things got quiet did you worry about him. deep down, you knew it was for the best. you couldn’t be around him without that niggling voice in the back of your head creeping back up. there was too much history there.
and steve had been so wonderful. you’re not sure you’d ever felt love like this. so transparent and pure, so void of expectations that he could see you at your worst and still be just as content to love you.
it all makes your heart ache, were you enough for steve even when you were like this? he had bore witness to the most horrific times of your life and yet, he’d be there everyday with a smile on his face and an open heart prepared for whatever that day may bring.
he’d taken the day off of work to purely spend it with you. granted, you’d only wanted to sit on the couch and watch a bunch of terrible movies with him but it was good enough. you’re not sure how long you’ve now been on this couch, but you knew it was late as the street lights glimmer that harsh orange through the blinds.
this film has you falling asleep, steve’s pick, obviously. you’d slid down the couch to rest your head on his lap, eyelids weighing heavy as sleep threatens to take over.
until you’re both startled by the incessant banging on the door, fist pummelling into the already brittle wood. your head snaps upward towards steve, pouting at the rude awakening. who on earth could find the need to pound the door at this time?
‘you expectin’ anyone?’ steve asks curiously, sliding your head from his thigh, very cautiously getting off of the couch to answer the door.
‘no? robin, maybe?’ unless robin had turned into a rabid zombie, you were sure it probably wasn’t her on the other side.
steve peers through the peep hole, seemingly taken aback but what or whoever he sees on the other side, ‘shit..’ cursing under his breath as he slides the chain from the door, opening it just slightly.
‘what?’ petrified by his reaction, sitting up on the couch to prepare for the impending insanity on the other side.
‘jesus man.. what are you doing here?’ he’s pushed aside as what looks like one eddie munson barges through the door, gasping for air and looking worse for wear.
he’s clutching his knees, doubled over as he tries to catch his breath, ‘i fucking.. ran the whole way here..’
if you’re being honest, he looks terrible. hair limp as it hangs around his face, clothes dirtied and you can’t see his face properly but you’re sure there’s a shiner of a bruise on his cheek.
‘what are you doing? what’s wrong?’ you fret, swinging your legs over the side of the couch as steve closes the door, bolting it up again in hopes that whatever eddie was running from was not following him.
he exhales before standing up straight, wiping the sweat from his forehead, ‘i need your help.. both of you,’ looking to steve who was stood with his hand on his hip, concerned about the inevitable mess eddie had just welcomed back into your lives.
‘why? where have you been?’
the last you’d heard from him, nancy had, very reluctantly, agreed to let him stay in their couch for a few days until he got himself sorted. but they’d woken up the next morning to find that he was no longer on said couch, not a trace of him left behind. he was completely unreachable, no phone, no idea where he had escaped off to and absolutely no one had seen or heard from him.
initially it had been a frenzy to try and find him until you collectively realised that he didn’t want to be found this time. and you had to mourn him all over again.
‘steve, d’you still know how to make fakes?’ completely ignoring your question, blinking at a puzzled steve.
your eyes flit to steve, unaware that he apparently had a history in counterfeit goods. perhaps a crucial bit of information he’d glossed over there.
‘not anymore.. what the fuck do you need that for?’
‘you know anyone that does? i’m desperate man.. i- i’ll pay,’ eddie pants, ‘name your price,’ chest heaving as he stands in the middle of your living room. he felt out of place here now, stuck out like a sore thumb.
steve ponders for a second, ‘uhh.. i dunno, maybe.. what’ve you done?’ sighing softly.
‘i need to leave the country.. i fucked up.. big time,’ eyes flitting to you with a certain sadness. even now, he didn’t want to disappoint you yet it seemed to be all he could do.
‘what’ve you done?’ you press, chewing on the inside of your cheek. mind running to the worst possibly conclusion. murder wasn’t out of the equation if you were honest.
eddie runs a dirtied, ringed hand over his face, ‘you know how i’m kinda s’posed to be in jail right now?’ it was already glaringly obvious that he hadn’t been released early.
‘yeah..’
‘well, i uh- i paid some guys off, they said they could get me out.. get me away from here,’ only now is he realising how fucking stupid that sounded.
‘eddie.. what?’ you exclaim, astonished by the sheer stupidity he constantly displayed. you’d thought that maybe he’d have learnt something from jail, that was the point of it, wasn’t it? learn from your mistakes and better yourself.
‘look, it doesn’t matter.. they’re asking for more money and i don’t have it,’ he says exasperated, ‘i need to disappear.. just for a little while, til they forget about it,’ eyes steady on you, as if to seek your approval.
you blink, where was he even planning to go? were you just never going to see him again?
‘i can’t get you outta the country but.. i might have a friend that can help,’ steve’s voice pipes up, tearing your eyes from eddie to look at him.
‘how?’ you exclaim, wondering what other things he had kept secret from you.
‘my friend’s out in california.. i think he’d put you up there,’ nodding at eddie, he probably didn’t deserve this kindness but steve couldn’t just leave him stranded. there was too much history to ever turn his back on his friend, even now, after everything, he was still holding his hand out for eddie.
‘that’d be.. fuck, that’d be.. good,’ eddie nods along, appreciative of anything you could do for him. turning to meet your gaze once more.
he knows this is it.
there wasn’t any coming back from this. no next time. it was california or it was death. and he sure as shit wasn’t a fan of the second option.
you think, deep down, that you know it too.
the likelihood of seeing him again is next to nothing. if he didn’t get himself killed, he’d certainly never be coming back here. this wasn’t for him, never had been really. well, maybe once upon a time when you looked at him without that sadness in your eye it had been.
when he thought back to it, he was sure the he knew you’d never loved him, he’d just been pretending for so long that his mind had played tricks on him, made him believe it. that’s why he’d lashed out that night, he’d convinced himself that you were in love with him. but you weren’t, and his heart had realised that fact quicker than his head had.
steve disappears into your bedroom in search of his phone, leaving you two alone in the living room. everything you want to say stays unsaid. heavy as it lingers between you. there’s not really much you can say in this moment that wouldn’t make things worse.
instead, you just nod.
as if to say that he could go. he could let you go.
eddie understands. but he’s not sure he ever will.
Yandere!Zane x Librarian!Reader
TW: Kidnapping not beta read
You didn't understand how you ended up in this situation. The High Priest of O'kasis was here at your doorstep demanding information that you don't have.
"I don't take lightly to people who waste my time, so I will ask you again. Where is the information about the Divine Warriors! This can't possibly be all the information that you have!"
"Again Sir, I don't have what you seek! They have burned all the knowledge about them years ago."
You felt a pinch of fear when his eyes widened a little at the tone of your voice that was directed to him. You didn't mean to raise your voice at someone with a high status as you but he was getting on your last nerves not getting the hint that this is all that you can offer him. You have heard stories about how he uses his status of being this 'religious symbol' to cover up his cruel actions and even take part in executing people, if they deserve it or not.
Zane was quite impressed with you. He's lucky that his mask is hiding the grin that was starting to form on his face.
He originally wanted to come to the village library hoping to bump into you. The first time he took notice of you was when he had to wed a pathetic couple. They wanted him to take a days trip just to get them married at a village with the name 'Phoenix Drop', making him stop with is work. That is when he saw you in the crowd speaking with an excuse of a Lord that they call Aphmau. The conversation was lighthearted but nothing worthy for him to pay any mind until you started to mention Lady Irene and how his name was in the mix of the conversation. The way you said his name made him feel a sort of way. Zane found himself wanting to hear it again. He kept a note to himself that you may be valuable to him, drowning the weird feeling he got from his name being spoken.
Later in the evening he caught notice of your snappy attitude and how you tend to be more to yourself yet also spare a kind smile to people. Zane doesn't understand why you have caught his attention, he found himself tracking everything you did. To him you were just a normal pathetic thing with knowledge he can use, yet here he was admiring the power he can see that you hold. He just wants to break it. No not break it. Absorb it. Make it his. Make you his. He wants not only the power of your knowledge but you. So here he was, after the celebration had ended, in your little library admiring the audacity you had to talk to a high being in such a way.
" Of course, my apologies for speaking to a lady in such a rude manner," he bowed to you. You raised your eyebrow at his apologies, you didn't take him as a man that would do that.
"It's nothing," you brushed it off not noticing the way he looked at you as you begin to look for a girdle it can be easier for the man to carry them.
" I am guessing that you will be purchasing instead of returning since you have such a ways trip?"
"Can't spare to give them for free?"
"Will you have my head if I don't?" You said ,not meaning for it to sound appalled by his playful tone. Zane started to laugh at your statement causing you to tense up. Oh this beating heart of his is making you less and less annoying than other people. Oh is he going to have fun with you.
"Why would I do such a thing? That is a sin in the eyes of our dear Matron." You took notice at how his smile reached his eyes when the whole night that never seemed to be the case when other people approached him. Maybe the stories about him aren't true.
"Yeah you're right that was stupid of me to even say"
"Don't worry about it, it was a nice joke. What is your name?" It was a useless question to even ask since he already got his guards to find out for him a few minutes prior in order to find this place. You tell him your name.
" That is such a lovely name."
" Why thank you High Priest," you bow. Oh did he enjoy that. A weak thing like you bowing to him and looking at him like that. What he would do is just for you to look at him with those eyes for all eternity. Yet the way you say his status instead of his actual name caused him to make an unsatisfied face.
"Would you like to accompany me to my ship to help me?"
You took a moment to think about it. It wasn't an unusual request from people so you didn't know why you were so hesitant. It was probably just the tales about him that have stopped you or maybe the fact he has guards that could do that for him. Realizing you have taken a while to reply you tell him yes and follow.
After helping him with the books you tell him about his payment.
"Oh yes of course."
Before you knew it, you were knocked out quickly. Zane looked down at your unconscious state. Oh how pathetic and vulnerable you were, don't worry he would take care of you.
Imagine this: a younger/kid PC finding out about the attic, maybe even a picture from when Bailey and Eden were still in school, and is now determined to find Eden, and try to bring the two together again
———
Basically The Parent Bait, but there’s only one (1) annoying and stubborn kid (except anon has never seen the movie)
Bailey knew you were a menace as soon as you were dropped off on his doorstep. And he was right. You break out of the youth wing and wander around, you latch onto him as he passes by despite his best efforts to not be fatherly, and of course he caught you coming down the ladder from the loft.
Now you've followed him to his meeting with Eden, staring up at both of them with a big smile on your face as they feel a mutual relief that they kept their pants on.
"One of yours...?" Eden looks jumpy, ready to get gone. Its best that people don't know he exists, and if this kid is some sort of spy (a terrible one if they are), then it could mean trouble.
Bailey flicks some ash off the end of his cigarette. "You're meant to be at school, kid."
His glare doesn't change a thing, you're still there, swinging your arms back and forth as you rock on your feet, a giggle bubbling up from your chest.
"Is this your boyfriend from that old photo?"
Both of them freeze. There's an old photo? You used the word 'boyfriend', too, which doesn't help with how god damn fragile the line of friendship and lovers is between the two.
"We aren't boyfriends, what fucking photo, kid?"
Your little hand dives straight into your pocket, producing a faded picture with creases marking the material. "This one! From an old box in the loft. I don't know why you don't like me up there, it's just dusty."
There's so much innocence still in your eyes. So much lack of knowledge about the world leaving blank spaces in your head that you fill with dreams. You don't even seem to realise how the mention of the loft makes both men grow pale.
Bailey snatches the photo from you, briefly glancing at it to ensure its really them. Eden looks away from it. He'll have to burn it later.
"Wait here kid. Don't move - not an inch, do you understand? I need to talk about something you're too young for, so no listening in."
He grabs the fabric of Eden's coat, hauling him several feat away before speaking once more in hushed tones. "I'm worried about this one. They'll give me a stress heart attack when they're older, I just know it. Hope someone just adopts them so I won't have to put up with them."
No response from Eden as he looks at you over his shoulder, nodding his head when you wave at him.
Bailey continues. "They think I'm like. Their dad or something. It pisses me off, Eden, how can one kid be that dumb? I mean-"
"Or whoever raised them this far was just as much of a cold bastard as you and they think it's normal cause they don't know anything else."
Sometimes Eden says smart things. Sometimes. Bailey rarely likes it. "Yeah well they should learn better anyway."
Eden has something in his eyes when he looks back at you once more. A hint of pity and wistfulness.
"I want kids, I ever tell you that?" They're speaking quietly, but this one is whispered.
The hunter can't adopt. He doesn't have the paperwork, can't pass inspections. But you're an adventurous kid who runs off a lot.
"I can just report them missing. You'd be doing me a favour, and it's better than killing them because they know we used to be just like them."
A month passes before he's able to see Eden again. A month where it looks like the man hasn't slept and has claw marks on his face. He's smiling, though.
"The kid decided we needed a pet badger."
Fatherhood looks good on him.
"But also is asking when their other dad is coming for tea."
And you're still finding ways to make his life difficult.
"a truce?" its an odd question. what was he talking about?
"i have something to admit to you." he seems nervous, "i believe you are someone i can trust, this is a rather delicate situation regarding our courtship."
You tilt your head, what was he talking about? he sighs and hesitates for a few silent moments before continuing, "I promise i can offer you a peaceful and kind marriage." You nervously laugh for a second, "i would hope so ser." you stop after seeing the look on his face.
Its sad, almost as though hes expecting the worst from you. "I do not find comfort in women."
its rushed and hushed, a dirty secret not meant to be mentioned. you feel, you dont know what to feel at the news. hes sitting watching you, waiting for some reaction.
Hes waiting for you to stand and scream at him, calling him a monster or start telling him you can change him. Hes used to the thing, his mother is kind yes but she denies the truth that is right in front of her face and continues to shove finding a wife down his throat even when she had found a man in his bed.
"im sorry... for you to be saying such a thing with such sadness must mean people have treated you unkindly before. i do not have any sort of issues with it, with you of course. im sorry im not very good at these sorts of things ive never done it before." you laugh, its a nice, odd change from the once sour and sorrow mood in the room.
you watch as he begins to laugh as well except his laughter is more of one of relief. Tears begin to stream from his eyes and his once happier mood turned sour. you frown, he is a kind man and does not deserve such sadness in his life. you know how people around here feel about when a man does not have taste for a woman but it has never bothered you once before.
you move your chair to be sitting next to him and place a comforting hand on his shoulder. "i am truly very sorry ser joffrey."
he shakes his head, his face dawning a smile despite his tears, "you are much too kind my lady, much too kind to be stuck with the likes of me my lady." you can barely believe his words, "you are a fine man ser joffery." he scoffs, "i am barely a man." "you won that match today i believe that is rather manly." it hurts to be reminded of jacaerys and his lose today but it must be said.
He laughs once more, "i am rather good with a sword in more ways than one." you hit his shoulder, "this is not the time for jokes." you offer him a handkerchief to which he accepts and runs it over his face. "it is always time for a jest my lady."
you roll your eyes. His looks goes back to something more serious. "i know i cannot offer you love but i can offer you my friendship and a peaceful marriage."
"why me?" its a just question, youre sure he has hundreds of other eligible ladies lining up at his doorstep, wanting to be future lady of the vale. His looks turns more thoughtful as he looks up at you and smiles, "You are easily the kindest and possess the purest of hearts of all the ladies ive meet. i could tell from the second i met you you were different. ive never met a lady quite like you."
His words cause you to flush. you know he does not mean them romantically but you have to admit it is a romantic statement. "and i see i still have my charms even with snot running down my face and wet cheeks. dont go falling for me so easily my lady."
You hit him on the arm as you turn away from him, "you are a buffon." he laughs, "im sorry my lady." you shake your head and look at him once more. you can tell he is being genuine, there's something so real about this joffery that you couldn't really see before.
As you contemplate your answer he speaks up, "i do not wish to rush you with this sort of thing. its a forever commitment and such a decision can not be made minutes after i have asked you. i am glad though it will give me more tiem to woo you with my charms."
He stands you follow and grabs his arms causing him to look at you in shock, "i can not give you my answer now. but i promise you i will genuinely consider it. i promise." he grins finally a look a true comfort and contentment comes to his face, "that is all i ask."
he walks towards the door with you slowly behind, a lingering question still in the back of your mind. He goes to greet you goodbye before you stop him, "may i ask you something?" he nods, "of course. anything my lady."
you think about how to words this, you cannot just ask him if it had anything to due with the match or the prince. "may i ask what prompted this? i mean you seemed like you planned to tell me at some point but why this early?" he looks at you like hes a little kid being caught in the kitchen stealing a dessert.
he sighs and looks down, "i feared if i hadnt done this now, you may be stolen from me." you blink rapidly, "i am not blind my lady, the prince is very obvious in his affections for you, it seems like i have a rival." he couldn't possibly mean it.
the look on your face causes him to laugh, "if you do not see such affections then you are the blind one my lady." he smiles as he opens up the door, greets belle before giving you a parting bow, "You shall see my lady. good day."
you shall see? see what? you watch his body exit your line of sight and belle quickly rushes in, closing the door behind her and letting out a sigh of relief.
you flop down onto one of the chairs. What just happened? Belle notices the look on your face and worries, “is everything alright my lady?”
you dont know how to answer. Is everything alright? you just found out the man youre in a courtship with will never truly love you, you may never get youre fairytale ending like youve always imagined.
its a hard truth. on the otherside it is probably a better match than any of the other men here. you are not naive, marriages are usually loveless with at best the husbands avoiding the wifes to take the company of another barely if ever seeing the wife and at worst, abusing the wife.
you run your hands along youre face, what were you going to do?
“I believe i am, maybe its best to pinch me to make sure i am truly awake.”
shs shakes her head, “maybe a walk instead, the best thing to cure a thoughtful mind is some fresh air.”
Shes right, behing outside relaxing in the sun feeling the aroma of the grass and flowers around you really did help you think.
You nod and stand, “youre right i shall go for a walk.” you decide you should head to see your dad. Hes always the one you go to when you need advice and hes the one you wish to see right now.
you exit the room and begin the walk to his room. your mind still chaotic from todays events, first the match with jacaerys then your interaction with him afterwards then this whole situation with joffery. You can barely breath.
You stop and put your hands on of of the open walkway rails and take a deep breath, closing your eyes. You just need to breath, its not all that that bad.
“You look like you have a lot on your mind.” The voice you hear shocks you causing you to turn and quickly bow, “my queen.” she waves her hand with a smile. “You are the lady dunn everyone been talking about yes?”
Your face heats, “most likely my queen.”
She laughs, “no need to act so stiff, i just came to ask you to join me for tea.”
your eyes widen, “wh-um-i- of course.”
college student! Jongho X college student! fem oc
Soulmate AU, just cuteness and fluff
warnings : mentions of anxiety, illness, pregnancy.
word count : 6.9k
synopsis : what happens when your soulmate bond is finally activated but it doesn't fall under any of the existing types? Jongho and Yunhee try to establish their connection with no clue and minimal examples to follow. Would they succeed in meeting each other and seal the bond or would they fall gradually ill?
a/n : okay so my first ever oneshot, and I'm glad I could write one for our baby bear jjong cuz there aren't many jongho fics on here PLUS I miss him so much :(( I hope he's recovering well and also his birthday is coming up next month! feedback is always appreciated!
----- A reblog would mean the world to me <33 ------
Yesterday was Yunhee’s 18th birthday, which meant that she was finally an adult according to society’s standards. It also meant that she could watch netflix shows that were adult rated without feeling guilty about her age and of course, call chronically online minors out on their behaviour as someone who’d automatically be deemed more mature and responsible.
However, this also entailed that her soulmate bond was activated.
Yunhee did feel a tingly sensation and the butterflies in her stomach like the others said she would, but after that everything went back to normal. No tattoos were etched onto her body, nor did she see a flash of her soulmate’s face in her mind and there was no response when she thought of a bunch of things to test if they had telepathy.
She really didn’t know what went wrong but it made her anxious. Also the fact that she had no way of knowing if something happened to her soulmate, as their soulmate bond was still unidentified.
“You should really calm down, Yunhee.” said Minha, her best friend of 7 years.
“What if I don’t find him soon enough? We have to meet each other as soon as possible after our soulmate bond has been activated or else we’d both gradually fall ill! Don’t you remember what happened to Nina and her boyfriend?” Yunhee muttered anxiously.
“It has only been a day! I don’t understand why you’re panicking so much. Give it a week and if there’s still nothing after that, then we can panic.” She concluded.
Taking her best friend’s advice, Yunhee decided to leave the matters into her soulmate’s hands, thinking if she was frantically trying out different confirmation methods, it was safe to assume that he was also doing the same.
Tumblr media
“Dude, I’m telling you, your soulmate bond is telepathy! There isn’t any other type that matches!”  Wooyoung exclaimed, while flailing his hands around to prove his point.
“But I haven’t heard anything from my soulmate so far! Nor do I know if the things I thought reached her!” Jongho yelled back.
“Okay… Well, try again later! Don’t give up on this, because I’m a hundred percent sure it’s telepathy of some sort even if it isn’t the common one.” Wooyoung got up to leave.
“How are you so sure? Are you a soulmate specialist or something?” Jongho scoffed at him.
Wooyoung smiled at that. “Remember how my soulmate bond was telepathy?” Jongho nodded, “I never told anyone this but, mine wasn’t your typical telepathy… It was one-sided.”
“What? No way!” Jongho stared at him in disbelief.
“Yes, our bond was such that I couldn’t hear anything from her but she could hear everything I thought about. I was ready to give up when I got this idea and decided to give it a last shot.” Wooyoung continued.
“What did you do?” Jongho asked.
“I sat down and started revealing my full name, my social media handles, my address and other details in my head, so if there really was anyone listening they’d know how to find me. She showed up on my doorstep with my favourite snacks not long after. The rest is history.” Wooyoung grinned while recalling the memory.
“How the hell did we not know this before? It’s literally a story worth telling!”
“Yes, I’m aware but the topic never came up and I can’t just randomly reveal that my soulmate bond was flawed you know?” Wooyoung tried to reason with Jongho.
“Okay, fine I got it. I’ll try thinking of different things and hope it’ll reach my soulmate somehow” Jongho sighed, giving in.
“That’s the spirit! Let me and the other guys know if you feel anything and I’ll see you later. Bye!”
Tumblr media
Jongho headed to bed early that day, feeling exhausted. As he was lying in bed, trying to fall asleep, an idea came to him. ‘What if I focus on one topic to think about instead of multiple things at once? It might be a more organised approach and less strenuous for my brain.’
So he sat up and started consciously thinking about one topic, but phrased them in various ways.
‘What is your name?’ He waited a bit but there wasn’t a response.
“At least I know this won't work,” he said out loud.
‘Can you tell me your name?’
 No response.
“Okay, that’s crossed out too then. How else can I phrase it…”
 If anyone saw him then, they’d think he had gone mad by the way he was talking to himself.
‘Could you speak your name?’
‘Could you spell your name?’
‘Could you trace your name on your hand?’
Jongho tried phrasing it as many ways as he could, even if some sounded ridiculous.
‘Telleth me thy name.’
 He paused before laughing at himself.
“So, Shakespearean English is crossed out too it seems.”
When he ran out of all the ‘tell’, ‘spell’, ‘speak’ and ‘think’ questions he took a different route.
‘Can you write your name?’
No response.
Jongho yawned, feeling sleepy. Lying back down on the bed, he tried thinking of a few more sentences before deciding to continue again the next day.
‘Could you write your name on paper?’
No response.
“Okay, then” he said.
‘Write your name down on paper for me please?’
He paused, just about to fall asleep.
That was when the most unexpected thing happened to him.
Tumblr media
Yunhee was tossing and turning in bed, unable to fall asleep. She had just finished her college assignment, due the next day and all the stress she took for it made her extremely tired.
Assuming sleep would come easy to her, she finished her nighttime routine and headed to bed. But alas, sleep was nowhere to be found. It was one of those days where her body was tired but her mind was wide awake and she despised when that happened because it meant that she would not be able to fall asleep anytime soon.
She started counting sheep in her head as a last resort.
 When she was on her 29th sheep, Yunhee heard something resonate in her head. The first noise sounded like an incoherent crackle and she almost dismissed it as her mind playing tricks, when she clearly heard a soothing male voice telling her to write her name on paper.
She sat up on her bed abruptly and tried to reach out to the guy, but to no avail. Her heart was beating very fast at the prospect of finally receiving a telepathic message. She was able to hear her soulmate’s voice and it was a feeling like no other.
After waiting a bit, she decided to do what the voice told her to: write her name on paper.
Yunhee got up, retrieving her notebook and a pen from the desk. Sitting back down on the bed once again, she opened the notebook to an empty page and scribbled her name on it. She also wrote “What is your name?” underneath.
She waited for a bit in case another message came through but there were no other responses.
Yunhee was completely unable to sleep that night.
Jongho couldn’t believe what he just saw. It was like a flash that only lasted for a few seconds, but he saw a vision through someone else’s eyes. He saw a hand pick up a light blue notebook with the words “hakuna matata” written in a corner with golden ink. The hand also picked up a pen and wrote down something in the notebook. What it wrote, Jongho couldn’t make out because the writing became hazy and blurry. He could only read out ‘Park’ and the writing underneath that said ‘what is your name?’.
He was sure the person wrote her name down but he could only read her surname.
Jongho felt something unexplainable in his gut. He was finally able to reach his soulmate, even though he couldn’t see her name. Thinking about the vision brought out a sense of longing inside him. He wanted to see more, feel more and know more about her, but he didn’t yet know how.
 ‘At least this is progress’ he thought. ‘I need to tell the others about this and figure out what I should do next.’
Tumblr media
The doorbell rang but the sound went unheard by the group of guys inside the apartment. The person standing outside got impatient after a while, and had to bang on the door to gain everyone’s attention.
“Geez, Hongjoong-hyung why are you banging on the door like that? The bell exists for a reason.” Wooyoung tsked while opening the door for him.
“I rang the bell like 10 times already! None of you brats could hear it over the noise pollution! I swear y’all can be heard from down the hallway!” Hongjoong yelled at him.
“Cut us some slack though, Hongjoong. We met up after almost a month!” Seonghwa reasoned with him.
The seven guys excluding Jongho made themselves comfortable in Jongho’s living room, catching up with each other. Meanwhile, the resident of the apartment arranged some refreshments for the eight of them, bringing them over to the living area before plopping down between Yeosang and Mingi.
“So let’s come to the reason why I called you guys here–”
“You called us for a reason!?” San fake gasped.
“You wouldn’t have invited us if you didn’t have a use for us!?” Yunho butted in.
“Guys let the poor boy speak! I can kinda guess what it’s about.” Wooyoung tried to defend Jongho.
“Yes, thank you Wooyoung-hyung. The reason why I called you here is because I was able to contact my soulmate yesterday and I still don’t know what type of bond this is.”
At the revelation, everyone started yelling over each other and asking questions, of which Jongho was unable to decipher a single sentence.
The seven looked like a bunch of chattering baby birds that wanted food from its mother. He sighed and shook his head, thinking how the people in front of him were supposed to be older in age.
“Guys, one at a time!” he yelled.
“Okay, so it’s telepathy right?” Wooyoung asked.
“Yes and no.” Jongho paused to sort out what he wanted to say, “It’s telepathy, yes, because I consciously thought of something and it went through. But, only one kind of conscious thought out of all the other ones I tried to send, elicited a response.”
“That’s…weird?” Hongjoong muttered.
“And not just that, hyung. The response I received was in the form of a glimpse, showing me a vision through my soulmate’s eyes!”
“What?” exclaimed Mingi.
“So, it’s not just telepathy, it’s specific and supposedly one sided, while you receive sporadic glimpses through your soulmate’s eyes. That’s a very odd combination.” Wooyoung said, in deep thought.
“This is more complicated than yours was, hyung.” Jongho muttered.
“What do you mean?” Yeosang questioned, being able to hear what he said.
Jongho proceeded to tell them all the details regarding what he thought and what he saw in the glimpse, meanwhile not forgetting to expose Wooyoung and how he hid such crucial information about his own experience. The rest reprimanded Wooyoung for it, making him sulk, but they also collectively tried to figure out exactly how the bond worked.
Tumblr media
“What happened!” Minha burst into Yunhee’s place, panting like she just ran a marathon.
“Why hello there best friend, why do you look as if you got chased by a dog?” Hayoon, their other best friend, asked sarcastically.
“Dude? I came here as fast as I could! I got Yunhee’s text a while ago that said ‘EMERGENCY’ in all caps! I thought some code blue shit happened to her!” Minha exclaimed.
“Wow, and I thought the text I received was bad… she sent, ‘come over, I have something to say’ that made me rush here because I thought she was pregnant or something, which would’ve been really bad considering her soulmate bond just activated.” Hayoon laughed.
At that very moment, Yunhee walked in with tubs of ice cream, suddenly feeling like she entered a lion’s den. The two girls yelled at her for being so dramatic over nothing but calmed down once she handed them their favourite ice cream.
“So, the reason I sent those ‘dramatic’ texts as you two so eloquently put it, is because I got contacted by my soulmate and I freaked out.” Yunhee revealed while rolling her eyes.
“What?” Minha yelled.
“When? How?” Hayoon followed.
“At night yesterday! I was trying to sleep after finishing the assignment and that’s when I heard his voice in my head telling me to write my name on paper. I don’t know why that was so specific but yeah I did as he said.”
“Did you hear anything in return?” Hayoon inquired.
“No, unfortunately. That was the only thing that came through.” Yunhee sulked.
“But hey! You got contacted by your soulmate! So we are sure that nothing happened to him and he’s probably trying to figure out how the bond works as well right?” Minha tried to cheer her up like the mom she was, unable to see her kid sad.
“Yeah, that’s true. I hope he figures it out though because I’m at a dead end here.”
“I’m sure he’ll figure it out! We currently have nothing to do but trust him and cheer him on. So don’t stress too much, Yuns. Stay alert and just wait for him to make the connection again.” Hayoon exclaimed, in a cheery voice.
“Exactly! Let’s trust him on this one and we can think more about it when he manages to contact you again. Meanwhile, tell us how he sounded! What did you feel?” Minha shook Yunhee in excitement.
So, the three girls spent the rest of their time discussing the interaction and other’s soulmate experiences while they enjoyed their ice cream.
Tumblr media
Jongho recalled the conversation that he had with the guys earlier, who managed to come up with a few hypothetical situations for him to experiment.
He sat down on his desk with a notebook before him, taking notes like he would for a science class. The guys did have a few different ideas but Hongjoong’s idea made the most sense to Jongho.
Hongjoong proposed that the message that went through was a command rather than a suggestion or a question. And what Jongho received as a glimpse was the completion of said task that got sent as a command.
So what Jongho had to do was make his soulmate do tasks for him and if it worked out every time, then eventually find a way for them to meet face to face.
He relaxed himself and thought of a task for her to do.
“Okay, so I know that I’d probably not be able to know her name or see what she looks like through the bond so I can’t ask anything related to that.” He spoke out loud.
After thinking for a while, Jongho got an idea. He decided to send his soulmate to her favourite cafe and order her favourite drink. In this way he’ll be able to figure out which cafe she frequented and what drink she liked as well.
‘Go to your favourite cafe and order your favourite drink first thing in the morning.’ He thought, hoping that his soulmate heard it.
“Did it sound too rude? But I can’t send anything other than a command and commands don’t particularly sound nice though.” He spoke to himself again while scratching his head.
Before he could overthink more, Jongho wrote down what he said and headed to bed as he had classes to attend the next day.
Tumblr media
Taking a last minute impulsive decision, Minha and Hayoon chose to stay the night at Yunhee’s house. The three slept over at each other’s places quite often, making it a regular occurrence in their lives. Yunhee let her mother know about it and she told her to grab the extra mattress that they had for such occasions.
While she was dragging the mattress to her room, she heard a crackle resonate in her mind like the last time. Yunhee dropped the mattress, focusing intently to see if her soulmate’s voice came through.
Minha was walking back with a glass of water when she spotted her by the living room standing as if she saw a ghost while the mattress was abandoned on the floor.
“Yuns, what happened–”
“Shush! I think I’m getting another message.” Yunhee quickly cut her off.
Indeed, the soothing voice she heard the first time spoke to her again, making the darn butterflies in her stomach return to torment her. She unconsciously smiled, the emotions that hearing her soulmate’s voice evoked in her being all very new.
Minha stared at her from the side, relating with the lovesick look on her friend’s face all too well.
“Go to your favourite cafe… and order your favourite drink first thing in the morning?” Yunhee repeated what her soulmate said to her out loud. She looked at Minha, tilting her head in obvious confusion.
“That’s what he said?” Minha looked equally perplexed.
“What is taking you two so long– why are y’all standing there with the mattress on the floor?” Hayoon came out of her room to check on the two.
Minha told her what happened while they dragged the mattress to Yunhee’s room. They sat down to think why her soulmate would send in yet another oddly specific message asking her to do something.
“You know what I think?” Hayoon said in a serious tone, unlike her usual carefree demeanour, “The only form of message he can send are the ones that tell Yunhee to do something. ‘Cause think about it! He probably already tried saying the common stuff like ‘what is your name’ or ‘where do you live’ like we telepathy types did, but in our case all the things we tried to send went through.”
 Yunhee and Minha looked at each other for a few seconds before directing their attention back to Hayoon, who was raising her eyebrows at them.
“Wow dude, what’s up with you? You’re actually making sense today!” Yunhee exclaimed with fake enthusiasm while patting Hayoon on the shoulder, who rolled her eyes and pointed her middle finger towards Yunhee in return.
“Yeah! But Yoon’s right. Can’t relate though, ‘cause I was the tattoo type but she has a point. And I also think that he can somehow sense if you have done the given task or not or else he wouldn’t have any way of knowing if his messages are going through.” Minha added while laughing at Hayoon.
“I mean, the task is simple enough. I do visit cafe Aurora before heading to class anyway, so it won’t be anything out of the ordinary, I guess.” Yunhee muttered.
The three girls started their movie marathon, when Minha’s phone rang. It was a facetime call from her soulmate Changbin, who was also their childhood friend since middle school.
When Minha turned 18, which was three months back, she invited all her friends to attend the party, including Changbin. He was out of town that week so he couldn’t attend her birthday party.
The tattoo that appeared on Minha’s wrist was supposed to be the first thing her soulmate told her after it was activated, which said, “Happy birthday! Sorry I couldn’t make it, Min.”
 Minha looked absolutely bewildered while Yunhee and Hayoon laughed at it like maniacs. She got teased by the other two the entire day, while she tried to appear nonchalant about it.
When they were younger, Minha never liked the concept of soulmates and always complained about the idea of getting paired up with a complete stranger for the rest of their lives as it seemed unnerving to her. But when she realised that her soulmate might be good old Changbin, she didn’t hate the idea anymore. It was true that Minha never saw him as anything more than a friend but he was an amazing guy and she did think he’d make a good partner.
At night she received a call from him and indeed, the first thing he said was “Happy birthday! Sorry I couldn’t make it, Min.”
Minha laughed and said, “Thanks, idiot.” when it dawned upon Changbin as well that his soulmate was none other than Minha.
 They met up when Changbin returned (he basically scrambled to return as fast as he could) and made it official.
 Among Yunhee’s friends, Minha and Changbin were probably the fastest soulmates to seal the bond which made a lot of them jealous because of how easy it was for them to find each other.
Back to the present, Changbin facetimed Minha who received the call.
“Hey Min, are you staying over at Yunhee’s today?”
“Yep. Sudden decision.”
“Oh okay, have fun! And pass the phone to Yunhee please.” Changbin spoke.
Yunhee peeked from the back and waved at him.
“You! What were you thinking when you sent a text like that, dumbass? Who sends ‘EMERGENCY’ and dips without explaining what happened?” He exclaimed.
“Ugh, okay fine sorry. I won’t send texts like that again. I got nagged enough by these two, I don’t need you to add anything to it, Binnie.” Yunhee whined.
“At least you’re fine and dandy so I’ll spare your ass today. How's the soulmate situation going?”
They told him everything that happened and gossiped with him for a few more minutes before hanging up.
Yunhee left to talk to her parents about something, only to come back to the room with her brows furrowed at the screen of her phone.
“Uh, Yoonie? Why is Eric texting me saying if I decided to keep the baby or not, and if I did he’ll help me convince my soulmate to keep it too?”
At this, Hayoon and Minha looked at each other, before they burst out laughing. Yunhee was still looking at them in bewilderment but the two were not being able to stop.
After two minutes of them laughing without break and Yunhee standing like the clown that she was, they finally stopped.
“Remember the text that you sent me? I showed it to Eric and he was the one who said ‘why does she sound like she’s going to announce her pregnancy or something’ and we realised that it could be a possibility, because dude, everyone knows that you write paragraphs when you text. So, such a thing was not to be taken lightly.” Hayoon shrugged.
At this Yunhee threw a pillow at her, yelling how her love life was as barren as the Sahara desert (because she couldn’t fall for anyone else when the thought of having a soulmate later in life hit her) and how she and her soulmate shared the same braincell.
“Come on! At least he’s supportive!” Hayoon defended Eric.
“Yeah yeah, I can see that. Let me call him and explain the whole thing, or else he’ll start preparing to be an uncle.”
Eric was Hayoon’s soulmate that she met 3 weeks after her 18th birthday. They were the telepathy type, being able to contact each other almost immediately after the soulmate bond was activated.
The two had a few bumps on the road, as Eric wasn’t cooperative in the beginning. The reason being that he liked this other girl and he couldn’t accept the fact that his soulmate was someone else. But the said girl found her soulmate a week after, which finally pushed Eric to move on and seek his own soulmate.
Minha and Yunhee didn’t like him, as he made their best friend suffer and put her at risk of getting ill due to the unsealed bond, but he redeemed himself eventually. Now they were a pretty wholesome couple.
After clearing the misunderstanding, they resumed the movie marathon, falling asleep in the midst of it.
Tumblr media
Jongho didn’t feel like getting up. It was a cold winter morning, which made sleeping under the warmth of the duvet all the more enticing. But he had to wake up as he had an important class to attend that day.
He reached college early, so he was waiting inside the classroom when he saw it.
a glimpse of an awfully familiar cafe. He was able to hear her voice this time, when she spoke to order a regular hot mocha. A shiver ran down his body when he heard it, realising how sweet her voice sounded to him. Keeping his emotions at bay, he noticed two very familiar faces through the glimpse before it ended.
“Cafe Aurora, huh.” He smiled to himself. His soulmate was nearer to him than he thought.
As he entered through the door in a hurry to get away from the cold, Jongho noticed that the cafe was busier than usual. He figured that it was due to the freezing weather outside, while the cafe provided the warmth everyone including himself was seeking.
Upon reaching the front he spotted Soobin behind the cashier counter, taking orders like he usually does with a smile on his face. Beomgyu was in the middle calling out names and distributing drinks while San was at the back making them for the customers.
He eventually spotted Jongho and called another worker to take his place, so that he could go greet his friend.
“Jongho? Fancy seeing you here.” San spoke up in a playful tone.
“Why? Can’t I visit my dear hyung during his shift?” Jongho retaliated.
“No, of course you can but you usually don’t frequent this place. Remember when you told me it was far from your house and you already found another place to get your iced americano from?” San raised his eyebrows making Jongho avert his gaze.
“Okay, fine! You got me there. I came here to ask you something.” he pouted.
“Ei, don’t feel bad! I was teasing you! But do visit me more often from now okay? What did you want to ask?” San laughed while patting his back.
“So, I saw another glimpse this morning. I’ll tell you the details later but I think Hongjoong hyung’s theory worked. Can you tell me if you remember any girl, possibly a regular here, ordering hot mocha around 8 am?”
“I make the drinks dude, I wouldn’t know. Hey, Gyu? Can you come over for a sec?” San yelled.
Beomgyu, who finally got to breathe after distributing the drinks, clicked his tongue and walked over to where the two were standing.
“Yeah, what’s up?”
“Do you remember any regular female customer that came today around 8 am to order a hot mocha?” San asked him.
“Okay first of all, I have been distributing over hundreds of drinks, at least 30 of which were hot mochas. And if we are talking about 8 am then a lot of people came in to get their morning fix before college so I don’t think I can help you.” He paused.
“You could check the server but I doubt that would be of any help either, because a lot of female regular customers order hot mochas in the morning so…” Beomgyu shrugged.
“Okay thanks, Gyu. We’ll figure something out.” San sighed.
“Why? Did anyone take a drink without paying again?” Beomgyu inquired in a concerned voice.
“No, no. We’re trying to find Jongho’s soulmate.” San and Jongho laughed at Beomgyu’s expression.
“Oh, thank god. Good luck searching for her, bro.” Beomgyu gave Jongho a thumbs up before resuming his work.
San looked at Jongho, who was deep in thought.
“How’d you know she came to Aurora?”
“Oh, come on hyung, I’d recognise the interior anywhere! Plus, she gave her order to Soobin and you were at the back making drinks. I saw you two in the glimpse.” Jongho poked San in the shoulders, making him swat his hand away.
“Moreover, I think I found out how the bond works. So, I’ll increase contact and try to get her to meet me somehow.”
“That’s the spirit! I know you’ll succeed Jongho-yah.” San said with a proud look on his face.
He asked Jongho if he still wanted to order an iced americano in a weather like that, to which he said yes. San shook his head at the boy but proceeded to make him what he wanted, yelling how he wouldn’t take any responsibility if Jongho caught a cold later.
He just smiled and gestured at him to continue making the drink.
Two days have passed since Yunhee received the last message from her soulmate. She was trying not to think about it, distracting herself with other things but every now and then her mind would fleet to the honey-like voice which evoked an unexplainable sense of longing in her. She wanted to hear his voice again.
During breaks, the trio made a point to gather whenever their schedules coincided, to catch up and complain about college, even though it was just their freshman year.
Yunhee was walking towards their hangout spot with Hayoon when she felt like another message was coming through. She stopped walking and tapped Hayoon on the shoulder to do the same.
The now familiar voice reverberated in her head saying “Write the name of your favourite flower on your notebook.”
She stood there with a faraway look in her eyes, while the girl beside her extended and retracted her hand awkwardly, not knowing if she should shake her best friend or not.
Hayoon didn’t have to suffer in indecisiveness for long, as Minha approached them and did the job for her by back hugging Yunhee, bringing her out of her trance.
“Why are you two standing here? Let’s go.”
“Wait, Yunhee received another telepathic message. What is it bro?” Hayoon asked Yunhee.
“He asked me to write the name of my favourite flower. What is he up to?”
“It’s just flowers Yunhee, he probably wanted to know basic stuff like that so that he can be prepared when he finally meets you.” Minha reasoned.
“Okay let’s go sit, so that I can write it down.”
The three headed to their hangout place. As soon as Yunhee sat down, she reached for her bag to bring the notebook out. She opened it and wrote, ‘sunflowers, but pink roses are great too’ after much thought.
The other two teased her saying they already knew she was going to write sunflowers so she really didn’t have to ponder so much, but Yunhee disagreed by saying how she found all flowers pretty so it was hard for her to pick one.
The following day, Yunhee received another message that asked her to write yes in the notebook if she was available on the weekend and no if she wasn’t.
She ended up writing a ‘YES’ in capital letters on her notebook that probably covered the whole page, out of sheer excitement.
Jongho on the other hand received a glimpse of it, laughing at how adorable she was. It was as though he felt the excitement of his soulmate and that made him more eager and impatient to meet her.
Yunhee immediately informed Hayoon and Minha about it, who were equally thrilled for their best friend and promised to help her get ready for the occasion.
Tumblr media
Weekend arrived faster than the two soulmates anticipated. Jongho made sure to send her a message saying “Go to cafe Aurora at 4pm” before he started preparing to meet her.
He got ready at three and sent a message to his group chat asking which flower he should pick between sunflowers and pink roses. Most of them suggested him to buy both and get them arranged in a nice bouquet.
What Jongho didn’t know, however, was that the seven were already camping at cafe Aurora (excluding San because it was his shift anyway) to watch the scene unfold.
Yunhee finally finished getting ready with the help of her two best friends. She opted for a classy but casual look: flared jeans, puffy sleeved black top, minimal pearl accessories and light makeup.
She kept stressing and overthinking about the entire situation like the worrywart she was. At first Minha and Hayoon were trying to reassure her and alleviate her concerns but after a while it became frustrating for them so they nagged her and threw her out of the house before it was too late.
Yunhee, although still anxious about the whole meeting up with her soulmate situation, took deep breaths and reminded herself how much she had been wanting to meet her soulmate for the past few days. After calming down a bit, she headed towards the cafe.
Jongho arrived at the cafe, the bouquet of flowers in hand. It seemed as though he attracted quite a bit of attention, because of how big the assortment of flowers looked due to the big and vibrant sunflowers. He didn’t think much of it however, opting to find a suitable seat while he waited for his soulmate to arrive.
San on the other hand, went inside the storage room upon Jongho’s arrival to alert the other six who were hiding in there. The guys were trying to find a suitable position to peek in through the door; bickering in low voices to prevent being seen. Yunho had to hold his hand over Wooyoung’s mouth in case he yelled unintentionally and gave out their position.
Meanwhile, San explained the whole situation to Beomgyu and Soobin, who finally understood what was going on.
“Here goes nothing.” Yunhee muttered to herself while she pushed the door to the cafe open. Upon entering she noticed that the cafe was moderately busy– an unusual sight for her as she always visited early in the morning during the rush hour, when all the seats were occupied and a huge queue present.
She didn’t know what to look for as her soulmate hadn’t really mentioned anything that would help her identify him in the crowd, but she hoped that her ‘soulmate senses’ would assist her with it (if such a thing existed).
Soobin noticed her standing awkwardly by the door and called her.
“Hello! Yunhee, right?” he said.
“Oh, hi! Yeah, I usually drop by before going to college. I’m glad you remember my name!” Yunhee was grateful to him for striking up a conversation.
“You seemed like you were searching for someone. Do you perhaps need some help?” He inquired.
“I was, actually! To be honest, I don’t know what he looks like.” she paused. “It’s… my soulmate and today is supposed to be our first meeting.” Yunhee said truthfully.
Upon hearing what she said, Soobin immediately yelled at San to come to the counter, who was standing at the back.
Yunhee saw Soobin whisper something to his ear and he looked at her with his eyebrows raised in shock. He then moved back to allow the guy to stand in his place.
“Hi! I’m San and I usually handle making beverages at the back. Soobin here just told me that you are looking for your soulmate, is that right?” He asked politely.
“Nice to meet you! And yeah, I am.” She replied.
“Looks like we’ll meet each other more often from now on, Ms.Yunhee.” San said while smiling. “And you might want to look there, on the right side, where a guy is sitting with a huge bouquet of flowers. Good luck!” He instructed while pointing towards the table.
Yunhee approached said table and immediately noticed the assortment of sunflowers and pink roses along with a few other flowers. She tapped on the table to get the guy’s attention, who was on his phone with his back to her.
Jongho looked up, only to find, arguably, the most beautiful girl he has ever laid eyes upon. He seemed to be in a trance, everything but the girl in front of him becoming a blur.
Yunhee wasn’t faring any better, feeling like her heart was beating out of her chest as she stared at the guy that was supposed to be her soulmate.
Both of them felt like something clicked in place, like the final piece in a puzzle that they didn’t even know was missing all this time.
Jongho recovered first, standing up to move the bouquet so that Yunhee could sit in the seat in front of him. Once she settled down, he swiftly handed the flowers to her, to which she thanked him in a bashful way.
“I did think your choice of flower was unique, but now that I saw you face to face, it suits you.” Jongho said, after clearing his voice.
“I’ll take that as a compliment, thanks.” Yunhee replied.
“I’m Jongho. Choi Jongho. Sophomore in college.”
“Park Yunhee. Freshman.”
“Yunhee… a pretty name for an even prettier person it seems.” Jongho replied playfully, making her blush.
They carried their conversation, feeling quite relaxed and comfortable after a while. Yunhee asked him a bunch of different questions, as she couldn’t do that with their bond earlier and Jongho patiently answered every query that she had with a smile on his face, not missing to ask her some in return.
The more they communicated, the more they realised how similar their values and preferences were, which dispelled all the concerns they had about liking each other.
Jongho got up to collect their order when he noticed the six heads peeking through a door in the distance. He made his way towards the door and swung it open, to see the six guys trying to hide behind carton boxes.
Jongho folded his arms and glared at them while they stuttered trying to explain the situation. Meanwhile, San pretended he did not see anything and continued his work.
Being discovered already, the guys came out from the storage room and greeted Yunhee, who was taken aback at first but reciprocated their enthusiasm almost immediately.
She could see how embarrassed Jongho looked because of them so she tried to console him by saying that her friends were like this too and they’d all get along really well once they met.
The guys started leaving one by one, seeing how Jongho’s death glare was still quite evident and they didn’t want to be at the receiving end of their youngest’s wrath.
Jongho sighed and apologised to Yunhee again for his friends’ sudden intrusion to which she was fine with and said that it was quite nice to meet the people he was close to.
They finished their beverages and chose to take a walk outside before heading home.
As they were walking along the pavement, Jongho felt a sudden urge to hold her hand. He tried to appear nonchalant and brushed his hand with hers, to which Yunhee responded by grabbing his hand while looking the other way.
As someone who hated skinship with all his being, Jongho didn’t quite fathom why he felt the need to initiate physical contact with the girl walking beside him. Something as simple as holding hands was making his emotions go haywire.
'So this is what having a soulmate feels like.' Jongho thought.
“Right? I always felt like it was a foreign concept to me, which I couldn’t relate to at all when the people around me shared their stories. But now that I’m experiencing it for myself, I get what they were saying.” Yunhee replied, while swinging their joint hands back and forth.
Jongho looked at her, perplexed about how she knew what he was thinking when their soulmate bond was supposed to dissipate once they met; not to mention it wasn’t regular telepathy to begin with.
Yunhee glanced back at him, to see his head tilted endearingly towards her in confusion.
“You said that out loud, Jongho.” She pointed out while giggling at his expression.
“Oh, I didn’t realise that.” Jongho turned his head away to hide his embarrassment but Yunhee noticed how red his ears were, making her chuckle again. He figured that he really loved how her laugh sounded.
After their impromptu stroll, Jongho took Yunhee home.
They were at the gate, when the girl turned around and held both of Jongho’s hands.
“I had a lovely time today, so thank you so much for that. Thank you for not giving up on me even after knowing how complicated it was trying to find how our bond worked, as I completely started depending on you after not having a single clue about it. I know that our life was kind of on the line too but still I’d like to express my gratitude. And also… thanks for not turning out a jerk I guess?” Yunhee ended with a mischievous smile, making Jongho laugh.
“Then I’d also like to express my gratitude for the fact that you chose to trust me on this and I’m so glad that you’re my soulmate.” Jongho smiled warmly while squeezing her hands tighter. “Also, thanks for not being a snobbish Karen.” He ended with a wink.
Both Yunhee and Jongho felt all warm inside just by looking at each other. Every emotion that they felt just by doing the bare minimum seemed heightened and it was a complete new experience for both of them.
The day ended as Yunhee hugged Jongho despite him telling her he hated skinship, and surprisingly Jongho didn’t mind it and hugged her back.
Yunhee promised to introduce her parents and friends to him some other day, to which Jongho wholeheartedly agreed, saying he’d do the same.
At last they parted ways, Yunhee entering her house and Jongho on his way home even though they didn’t want the day to end.
Unspoken promises of a life together at each other's side lingered on. A life, where they were bound to be together, chosen as each other’s counterparts by fate itself. No matter how many lives they lived, the red string of fate would always bring the destined souls to one another; such was the way of the universe.
The f!reader x Nikolai fic including Vasily was gorgeous! I just found it and wow - perfection. Absolutely jaw dropping.
Could I get a follow up fic about Nikolai's recovery? Maybe there are some after effects of the poison and he's struggling to get better. He's back at the Grand Palace but the fever, pain and dizziness keep plaguing him and he's having a hard time dealing with being so weak and feeling sick. Besides the wound on his chest hasn't healed either yet...
Basically reader being cute af and taking care of sick Nikolai (maybe also Vasily being a little but caring shit lmao)
Tumblr media
"Why does he still look like he's standing on death's doorstep?" Vasily whispered to you as he looked down on his very sickly-appearing brother, who was supposed to have recovered from his injuries by now.
"Try getting stabbed with a poisoned blade and we'll see how you look after barely a week of being home," you replied, letting a comforting hand run through Nikolai's golden hair, carefully removing the wet strands that stuck to his fever-stricken forehead.
"I'm sure I'd at least have a little bit more…colour on my cheeks. That's all. He looks terrible," the prince mumbled almost childishly.
"I'm not unconscious, Vasily. I can hear you. Loud and clear for that matter. And it's not really aiding my headache," your fiancé rasped out, his voice heavy with exhaustion.
"I think it would be best if we'd give him a bit of space. Some peace would very likely do him some good," you sighed as you filled up another glass of water to at least keep him hydrated, putting it beside his bed and attempting to stand up.
"Stay, please." You felt his hand tightening around your wrist, his grip hardly firm enough to pull your hand towards him.
"I'll take that as my sign to leave." Vasily gave you a courteous nod before sauntering to the door. "Don't die while I'm gone, brother. I'd hate to be the one having to break the news to mother."
"Don't get blackout drunk. I'd hate to be the one having to tell Nikolai about you vomiting into one of the plant pots again," you called after him, earning a faint chuckle from the man next to you and an offended grunt from his brother.
You turned back to Nikolai, watching him struggle as he attempted to sit up. The wound on his chest was still an oozing mess that just didn't want to heal properly. He could barely move his torso to complete the most basic tasks, and it infuriated him deeply. The additional fever and dizzy spells didn't improve his already low spirits.
"I hate to admit it, but our pompous little prince is right. You do look terrible, my love."
"Oh, so now you're taking his side?" he lamented dramatically, presumably putting all his energy into the act.
"Well, he is to be my future brother-in-law, after all. I must agree with him occasionally or else he might think badly of me. And who would want that?" you mused with highly sarcastic undertones.
"And I'm your future husband, does that not have any merit in the matter?"
"You're right. I should marry Vasily instead. Just to not commit any sort of treason by periodically opposing my beloved." Nikolai's gaze shot towards you, shock and a slight hint of disgust in his eyes.
"Don't you dare even think about that," he griped, fiddling with the delicate engagement ring on your finger.
It was a habit he had picked up ever since he had proposed to you. Whenever nervousness or stress overtook him, he'd reach out to take your hand into his, mindlessly twisting and turning the golden band. On the rare occasion that you weren't around, he would do the same with his own. It just wasn't as comforting.
"I would never," you snorted. "I do have standards. Even though I had to tweak them quite a bit to consent to marrying you."
Instead of giving you one of his snarky comebacks, he squeezed your hand one last time before letting go of it. His free hand reached for the glass of water on the side table next to him, but he was too weak to properly hold on to it, causing it to shake heavily. You quickly snatched it out of his hand, earning a dissatisfied glare from the young Lantsov.
"Love, I can-"
"Your hands are shaking like reeds in the wind, darling. As much as I would love to see you do all these things by yourself again, you can't right now. And that's okay. I'll take care of you until then," you assured.
"It's just so…frustrating," he let out a huffed breath, visibly overwhelmed by the whole situation.
He wanted nothing more than to just feel like his old self again. It infuriated him how weak he was. The pain should have gotten better by now, yet he still felt like a frail porcelain doll that threatened to break every time it left the shelf. And as much as he appreciated you taking care of him, he couldn't shake off the feeling of being useless.
"I know," you sighed, letting your eyes trail down to the bandage covering his chest. "But the more pressure you put yourself under, the longer it'll take for you to get better."
Nikolai turned his head to the side, not wanting you to see his face in case he wasn't able to keep the tears from falling. You seeing him cry would only humiliate him more, he thought.
"Nikolai." You cupped his cheek with one hand, pulling his face back to look at you. He hated that you knew him well enough to realise what was going on inside his head. "Don't be so hard on yourself. We're all so relieved that you're alive - even Vasily. No one expects you to do anything other than recover. No matter how long that might take. Please get some rest and let me help you."
"You shouldn't have to take care of me," he breathed out. "You shouldn't have to worry about my health or whether I will make it through the night. I'm so sorry for putting you through all of this."
"I'm not doing this because I have to, Nikolai. I'm doing this because I want to. Taking care of you isn't burdensome. Not to me." He closed his eyes as your thumb began to trace circles over the slight ridge of his cheekbone. "We're engaged - soon to be married. One of the conditions for that is to be there for the other. In sickness and in health. We may have not exchanged our vows yet, but that doesn't matter. I love you too much to watch you wither away like this. Let me do this for you."
"Thank you." His voice was barely above a whisper.
"Now, drink something and then try to sleep for a bit. I still have some correspondence to take care of, but it won't take too long. I'll come back as soon as I'm done. Send for me in case you need me. " He only nodded in response, too tired to say or do much more.
You pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead before you left his bedroom. Of course, you would have preferred staying with him, even if it was just to watch him sleep. However, you still had a few duties of your own to fulfil and you couldn’t shove them away forever. You couldn’t allow yourself another misstep after lying to your parents about your whereabouts, that was for sure.
Tumblr media
After close to two hours spent with measly paperwork and bureaucratic duties, your focus was pried away from the neatly stacked documents on your desk by muffled bickering in the hallway outside your door. You took a quick look at your pocket watch, concluding that it was definitely way too late for your parents to still be out and about.
A bit hesitantly, you abandoned your previous occupation, carefully tiptoeing towards the corridor where the noise had to come from. The scene you had to witness almost gave you a heart attack.
Vasily stood in the middle of the hall, his normally pristine white shirt dirtied with bloodstains. He was hunched over, hovering close to another person that sat on the hard marble floor, their back pressed against the wall. When you noticed that said person was none other than your fiancé - blood smeared all over his hand and shirt, a dazed look on his face - you immediately sprung into action.
“Vasily?” You directed your question at the more alert-looking Lantsov. “By the Saints, what happened?”
“Fuck, if I only knew!” he replied, his stern features relaxing as you approached the two of them. “I was just about to retire to my chambers after a hard day of-”
“Day drinking? You reek of kvas, Vasily,” you muttered under your breath, poignantly ignoring the scowl he gave you.
“As I said, I was about to make my way back to my chambers until I saw this fool lying on the floor with blood everywhere. I thought he was dying! I tried to get him back to his own bedroom, but I can’t possibly carry him back there on my own. Especially not with all that carnage on him.” You rolled your eyes at his theatrics, crouching down next to his brother to assess whatever was going on.
“Nikolai,” you said his name once, your hand finding his face like it had a few hours earlier. His eyes were open, but he seemed to be somewhat loopy. “Love, are you alright?”
“Yes,” he hissed through gritted teeth, his bloody hand clutching the wound on his chest as he tried to sit up straight. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t,” you warned, looking at the quite deep cut that ran across his arm and hand. “Do you think you can walk back to your room? With our help, of course.” Vasily scoffed, but you didn’t let that bother you. “I have to take a look at that. You don’t need another injury that runs the risk of developing an infection.”
He wanted to say yes, but when another jolt of pain shot through his body, you knew that you couldn’t let that happen.
“That’s a no. Vasily, I will need your help to carry him to my bedroom. It’s right around the corner and we won’t risk having any of his wounds reopen.”
Even though the prince gave you a sharp look of dismay, he followed your bidding. Slowly, he bent down to his brother, slinging an arm around his middle to awkwardly force him to stand. Nikolai tried everything in his power to get both of his feet on the ground. However, he could only hold his weight for a few seconds before his knees threatened to give in. Vasily had to stifle a gag when he felt the wet blood dripping on his skin and staining his clothes. If you hadn’t been so worried about the state of your boyfriend you would have probably found his reaction pretty amusing.
“Are you certain that you want this biological hazard to be brought to your chambers?” he asked, turning up his nose when his brother let out a low grunt. “Wouldn’t it be preferable to bring him to a Healer? You know, like a person that is specifically trained to treat wounds like this?”
“No Healer, please,” Nikolai panted, tightening his hold on Vasily’s shoulder.
Both of you knew that he wasn’t too fond of Healers. It was not like he disliked or opposed them, but after seeing what people like them were used for in the Second Army. He had seen what they could fix, but he had also seen what they could destroy.
“It’s fine. I’ll take care of it. As much as I have seen, it’s nothing life-threatening. And even if it were, we all know that I have some experience in treating life-threatening injuries by now.” You flashed Vasily a cocky grin, reminding him of the threat on his life you made should he ever even do so much as think about telling anyone about what he saw in that medical tent.
“If you insist,” he mumbled, taking steady steps towards your room.
Once you finally reached the safety of your chambers, you ordered him to set him down in one of the armchairs next to your vanity - bloodstains be damned. Nikolai groaned as soon as his brother let go of him, his back hitting the braided wicker quite harshly.
“Uhm, I’ll go and…clean myself up now. Especially before mother sees this,” Vasily declared, his gaze staying on his little brother for a bit longer before he turned to leave. “You know where to find me in case you need any help hiding the body. Or whatever issue you might need help with.”
“Thank you, Vasily.” No matter how often this man had infuriated and annoyed you before, you couldn’t help but appreciate his unexpected acts of kindness when you needed them most. Even with his unnecessary commentary. “I think I can handle him for the night. But thank you nonetheless.”
With an acknowledging nod, he exited the room, leaving you alone to deal with a bleeding Nikolai.
“First things first, I’ll need to get you cleaned up, sweetheart,” you explained, hurrying towards the bathroom to grab a wet rag and all the other medical supplies you were sure to need.
Since you couldn’t have been sure whether the bloodstains on his shirt were from the fresh wound on his arm or the stab wound on his chest, you decided that his shirt had to go - it was ruined anyway, so what was the harm?
“Darling, shouldn’t we get married before consummating said marriage?” your fiancé joked, looking down at you as you unbuttoned his shirt.
“Kolya, this is not the time,” you rebutted light-heartedly, pulling the ruined shirt off his shoulders and allowing him to do the rest.
With rather unsteady hands, you tried to clean all of the remaining blood off his torso and arms, seeing that the wound on his hand wasn’t too drastic after all. He didn’t fuss when you tossed the dirty rag, replacing the warm feeling of the wet fabric with the cool sting of the numbing cream. The relief on his face was evident in an instant.
As you put a bandage around his arm and hand, you felt his gaze fixating on you, not leaving your form, not even when you left his side to clean out the piece of cloth and stash away your medical supplies. You couldn’t help but think about his nickname ‘sobachka’. He hated that nickname, but in moments like these, it rang more true than ever. He really was a lost little puppy sometimes.
“Are you alright, Nikolai?” you asked softly, stealing a brief glance at the bandage wrapped around his torso, which he detested with a burning passion.
“I am now. Thank you, my love,” he sighed, letting his gaze waiver towards the clunky bandage on his arm.
“Do you mind telling me what caused you to drag yourself outside of your room with a bleeding wound? How did you even manage that?”
“I was thirsty,” he began, the façade of the confident prince slipping, revealing a meek little boy that had to talk about something he really didn’t want to. “I couldn’t hold onto the glass and it shattered on the floor. And since I didn’t want to have someone else remove it, I tried cleaning it up. Well, let’s just say it didn’t turn out how it was supposed to.”
“And why didn’t you call for me, honey?” you sighed, retrieving one of his spare shirts from your dresser, not wanting him to get even sicker from the cool evening breeze that filtered in through your open windows.
“I didn’t want anyone else to see me like…this.”
“So you opted for stumbling through half of the Grand Palace looking like you had just murdered someone instead?”
“When you put it like that it sounds a lot less logical than I had imagined it.” Now you could see how he and Vasily were related.
“You were really lucky that your brother’s drinking habit forces him to be out this late. I don’t even want to imagine how long you would have stayed outside if he hadn’t found you.”
“We should probably call him again to help with getting me back to my chambers,” he fretted, dreading having to rely on Vasily’s help again.
“Absolutely not. You’re staying here for the night. I’m not letting you out of my eyesight tonight. Not after this stunt,” you declared, grinning at the befuddled expression on his face.
“We’re sleeping in the same bed? Before we’re actually married? Scandalous.”
“Choose your words wisely, or else I might let you sleep on the floor.”
“You would let a poor injured man sleep on the cold, hard floor? That’s pretty heartless.”
“Maybe I should genuinely reconsider marrying you if that’s how you see me. I heard Vasily is still looking for a wife,” you sneered, throwing him the shirt and watching while he put it on.
“Tough luck. You’d have to compete with his love for whiskey and horses first, and I have a sneaking suspicion of which one of you would win that scrabble.” You let out a faint laugh at that, shaking your head as you moved closer to him.
“Alright, enough slander for the day. Let’s get your stubborn ass to bed.” You offered him your arm, supporting him steadily before you cautiously manoeuvred him towards your bed. He was very unsteady on his feet, heavily relying on you to keep him standing, but you were glad that his knees didn’t threaten to buckle this time.
Slowly, you let him sit on the bed, lifting the duvet for him to crawl under. You were very careful when you slid in next to him. Even though you didn’t want to treat him like he might turn to dust as soon as someone touched him, you still had to be cautious to not accidentally hurt him.
A part of your worry subsided when he opened his arms, beckoning you to come closer to him. He may be a bit weaker than what he was used to, but his neediness was still on the same level as it was before. So with a hint of hesitance, you scooted closer to him, allowing him to wrap his arms around you.
Tumblr media
His arms were still wrapped around your waist when you woke up the next morning. The sun that filtered through the window bathed both of you in a warm golden light that made wanting to get up even more difficult than you had expected. You couldn’t even begin to describe how much the thought of waking up like this for the rest of your life excited you.
You placed a gentle kiss on the sharp line of his jaw, tracing your arm along his arms before slipping out of his grasp. You had expected him to wake up after feeling you kiss him, however, he remained laying in bed like a wet sack of flour. For a moment you panicked, fearing that something might have been wrong with him. But when you intended to reach for his wrist in an attempt to check his pulse, a sonorant snore left his mouth. Perhaps he really just needed a long good night’s sleep.
He only showed any sort of life when you re-entered the bedroom after you had changed. His snores had seized completely now, replaced with his soft breathy chuckle as he watched you parade around your room.
“Good morning, sleeping beauty,” you laughed, seeing him sit up slowly. You were glad to see that he looked a whole lot better than yesterday. “You slept well, I assume?”
“How could I not? I slept next to you, after all.” His hazel eyes glistened in the light, resembling two pieces of true amber. “I can’t recall the last time I had a dream this pleasant.”
“What did you dream of?”
“I dreamt of a life with you in it.” His honesty made you freeze for a second. He was quite the piece of work. One second he had you fearing for his life, and the next he made your heart skip a beat because of how utterly besotted with you he was.
“I’m already in your life, Kolya. And I’m not intending to leave it anytime soon.” You walked over to your bed to press a faint kiss to his cheek. As a reminder that you would always be here.
“If I get bet-”
“When. When you get better,” you corrected, reaching for his hand to squeeze it reassuringly.
“When I get better, we should look into moving the wedding forward. I don’t think I can wait any longer.”
“So eager to marry me now, aren’t we?” you laughed, letting out a high-pitched squeak when he pulled you towards him. “Nikolai, be careful!”
“Oh, love, I’ve been eager to marry you ever since the day I proposed to you.” He peppered your cheeks with kisses, forcing you to giggle like a young schoolgirl. Every single etiquette lesson you ever had the joy of attending flew right out of the window while your fiancé continued to make you laugh and wiggle erratically.
“I suppose I’ll have to agree to that.”
This was the life you wanted to have.
Tumblr media
Nikolai had opted to stay in your chambers for a few days longer. This way, you would be able to get to him quicker, he reasoned. And obviously, you weren’t one to deny him. Staying with you seemingly helped him in his recovery, and it helped you in calming your nerves.
You could the colour return to his cheeks again, the longer he rested and let himself be taken care of. He was still weaker than he had anticipated, but he could do most of the minor self-care tasks himself. He could hold a glass, eat, and even managed to get himself to the bathroom without any sort of support. Even though that felt like a minuscule step to him, you were more than proud of him.
One week after he started sleeping in your room, he made you feel even prouder.
It had been such a long and tiring day of working through the piles of documents and correspondence that you could quite literally feel your body gravitating towards the floor. A quick glimpse at the clock told you that Nikolai was probably already waiting for you to come back. It wasn’t like he hadn’t seen you at all today - you had been with him for breakfast, lunch and dinner - but he still managed to pump up his theatrics and act like you had abandoned him for years. His penchant for overdramatisation didn’t help you with stowing away all your paperwork.
You pulled yourself to your feet, arranging and sorting all the different stacks you had created, before you put them in their respective cabinets surrounding your table. You had been so focused on your work that you didn’t hear the door behind you clicking shut, and someone approaching you very slowly.
A pair of firm arms wrapped around your middle from behind, someone’s head now resting on your shoulder. You were close to whacking whoever it was with the not particularly heavy paperweight, but when a gentle kiss was pressed to the column of your throat, you rethought that intention. Nikolai let out a muffled hum, his body flush with yours as you sunk into his touch. You didn’t begin to process the semantics of his presence until you noticed him sway backwards ever so slightly.
“Wait, Nikolai?” You wiggled yourself out of his grasp, your hands still resting on his in case he needed to steady himself. When you turned, you saw the smug-looking prince glance at you like he had just been caught red-handed in doing something he shouldn’t.
“Were you expecting someone else?” he asked, sounding almost offended.
“How did you get here?” You waved off his question, letting your eyes wander towards the door in an attempt to check for someone who could have helped him get here. The walk from your bedroom to the waiting room wasn’t long, but it was definitely longer than the walk to your bedroom.
“How do you expect me to get here?” He smiled at you, waiting for you to finally understand what this statement implied.
You raised a quizzical brow, not really following what he was trying to tell you.
“Since my horse didn’t fit through your door frame I had to take it upon myself to walk over to you,” he explained, watching the realisation spread over your face.
“You walked over here by yourself?” you beamed, unable to contain your excitement. “Kolya, that’s so good! I’m so proud of you. I knew you’d get better soon. Are you okay? Does anything hurt? Do y-”
He silenced you by pressing his lips onto yours, abruptly ending your ramblings with a smile on his face.
“I’m fine. A bit sore, but fine.” He kissed your forehead once more. “It’s late. I was wondering why you didn’t come to bed. Apparently, my terribly worrisome heart and undying love for you was enough of a reason for my body to eventually listen to me again.”
“Admit it, your main objective is to push our wedding date forward,” you laughed, looking up at him to see him smile sheepishly.
“I see, you have revealed one of my most well-guarded secrets,” Nikolai bemoaned with a fake scowl.
“If that is one of your most well-guarded secrets, I can’t even begin to imagine what the other end of that spectrum loo-" He kissed you again, uncaring of whatever sarcastic comment you might have to offer.
Tumblr media
"Y/N!" The door to your office was slammed open. "Nikolai is not in his or your b-" Vasily stopped dead in his tracks, seeing his brother and fiancée look at him amusedly after you had just visibly been making out.
Both of you watched as a shade of deep red shot into his face as he noted the mistake he made by not knocking.
"Forgive me, I'll leave you to it."
moonlight sonata | seonghwa
Tumblr media
starting off the new year with some more ateez stuff bc MAN do i love ateez. <3 summary: after a devastating loss, you find yourself on the doorstep of a vampire, begging him to change you. and he does -- just not in the way you were expecting. (vampire!seonghwa x fem!reader) genres: slow burn, modern fantasy, mild horror that will grow in severity in later parts warnings: vampires, death, blood mentioned, murder mentioned, drinking blood is kind of a thing with vampires so definitely is brought up throughout, some gendered terms i believe, mention of reader being a woman, i think that might be all, please lmk if you find anything else!
One might think, as you did, that a vampire’s house might have at least a fence.
You check your phone, trying to make sure your GPS has guided you to the right house. Honestly, it does look sort of spooky -- a shadowy wrap-around porch supports a towering black structure that juts up through the scraggly branches of trees that haven’t quite recovered from winter’s chill, the windows all black and watery-looking in the bright moonlight. But no fence. And from what you can tell in the darkness, no cameras.
You shrug and make your way up the walk toward the foreboding, ornate door. You hadn’t meant to arrive in the blackness of night, but years of feeling next-to-nothing mean that even though you know that you’re literally arriving on death’s doorstep, you aren’t scared or even worried. The worst thing that could happen? You get eaten. And the best? He gives you what you want. Honestly, from where you sit, that seems like a win-win.
You reach the door and raise your hand to knock, then pause. It seems odd to knock, but it also seems impolite to just barge in, and even debating about it is absolutely ridiculous given the circumstances. You take a deep breath and then knock, figuring it’s better to start out on the right foot with a monster.
It takes a few minutes for the door handle to turn, which is disconcerting because you hadn’t heard or seen anything through the pane of glass that makes up half of this Victorian-looking door. But as the door slides open, slowly, you reflexively shine your light into the eyes of the person who appears across the threshold.
As you expected, the light bounces off his eyes, making them reflect in the dark like a cat’s. “Ha!” you shout in triumph, pointing at him. “I found you!”
In one swift move, the man pulls you from his porch into the house. It’s at a speed that isn’t quite fast enough to remind you of what he is, but isn’t slow enough to be human, and as he pushes you into the wall, you suddenly feel your heart beat quicker. “What are you doing here?” he hisses, and in the dark entryway his eyes beaming yellow look even more unsettling.
But this seems an odd thing to say upon first meeting someone. “Uh…I’m sorry to disturb you,” you begin — and you’re suddenly aware of where his hands rest against your upper arms.
They’re warm.
This takes you aback. The only thing you can really see in the dark is his eyes, but you find yourself squinting to try and make out his face through the gloom. There was something about his voice, too. Something familiar.
He sighs, reaching over and flicking on a light switch. You blink painfully against the sudden light for a few seconds before turning your attention back to the creature in front of you.
In the yellow light of the overhead bulb, the man between whose arms you are currently trapped is not at all how you expected him to look.
Tall, yes. Pale, yes. Dark hair, hollow cheeks, otherworldly beauty? Check. You weren’t even too unsettled at the animal-like eyes that even in this light are an odd shade of golden-brown that’s closer to yellow than you feel comfortable with, but what’s tripping you up now is his expression. You’d expected a literal vampire to be glaring at you, or glowering, or maybe even smirking. Instead, he looks….confused?
He blinks at you. “How did you find me?” he asks in a smooth, deep voice, his pupils wide and his expression bewildered.
“Um, my family were in the monster-hunting business,” you explain, and suddenly you’re a little nervous as his eyes move up and down your body.
“I see,” he murmurs. “Well, welcome. My name is Seonghwa. Please do join me in my study.”
“Seonghwa,” you say quietly to yourself as he moves away, gliding up the stairs. You follow him in trepidation, taking in the old oak staircase as it shines in the dim light.
He sweeps behind a big desk at a room on the top of the stairs, flicking on the lamp behind him as he does. With the light behind him, his eyes don’t glow as much, and even though you know what he is, you can almost trick yourself into believing that he’s normal.
His lips quirk into a half-smile as he watches you, lingering at the grand doorframe. “Please have a seat,” he says, gesturing at the chair across from his own.
So you enter the room, sitting slowly in the comfortable wing-backed chair and looking into Seonghwa’s expectant face. After awhile with no speaking, he laughs -- a charming sound that belies the tension in the room. “Are you going to tell me why you’re here?”
You take a deep breath. “I want you to turn me into a vampire.”
His smile hardens just a tad — almost as though he expected your answer. “And why should I?” he asks. “Or rather, why shouldn’t I just drink you dry?”
You sigh. “Would you believe that I just wanna live forever?”
He gives you a wry chuckle. “No,” he says.
“Dang. I was really hoping that would work.” You shift uncomfortably in your seat. “The real answer is a long story.”
“Well, it’s a story you’ll have to tell me if you want to avoid becoming my next meal,” Seonghwa says lightly.
“Fine,” you agree. “I told you that my family was in the monster-slaying business.”
“Yes,” he says. “Should I be worried?”
“I’m no threat to you,” you say tiredly. “Anyway, my mother recently learned that the organization we worked for had used us to neutralize ‘threats’. We thought that meant monsters — both the human sort and the non-human sort. But then we learned the truth.” You can’t help the bitterness that laces your tone like a poison.
“How?” Seonghwa is expressionless, but those dark eyes are soft.
“When we killed a whole family in cold blood because they told us they were a cult of werewolves who ate children. We killed all of them, even the kids.” You shake your head, still remembering the smell of blood and slaughter. “When you kill a werewolf, their blood is thicker and a bit more yellow than human blood. We knew immediately we’d done something terrible.
“My mother confronted them about the problem, and was met with denial after denial. So she did her own investigating. And the dam broke. She exposed them. Centuries of corruption, maltreatment, extortion, and murder that would make the mafia look like a Boy Scout troop. And so they killed her. Killed my whole family. And only I escaped.”
“So why do you want to be a vampire?” Seonghwa repeats.
“Because I want to make them pay,” you answer, your voice soft and deadly. “There was some prophecy…ages ago, it seems. A vampire was meant to be their downfall. It’s why they hunted vampires almost to extinction. You have no idea what I had to do to find you.”
His grin twists a bit, hinting at some internal joke with himself. “You’d be surprised at what I know.” He leans forward, resting his hands on the desk. “So. You want to become a vampire for vengeance.”
You blush. This anger -- this hatred -- that you feel is unlike you, but the pain is much too difficult to bear without the burn of it to protect you. Still, you’re a bit ashamed at how disparate your former self is with your current one. You have often wondered if your compassion might not have died with your family, leaving you completely devoid of human emotion. It’s part of the reason you want to become a monster. It feels fitting, somehow. Almost as though this is the debt you must pay for your rage.
Seonghwa ignores your shame as he stares intently at your face. “I propose a compromise,” he finally says. “If you stay with me for a year, and you still wish to become a vampire, and I haven’t eaten you yet, I will change you.”
A year! A part of you wants to protest, desperate not to wait -- but a stronger, more stoic part of you realizes what this means. He will change you in a year. (As long as he doesn’t eat you first.)
But you’re confused, too. For what reason would he want to keep you near? “Why bother keeping me around if you’re eventually going to eat me?”
“Hm,” Seonghwa says, grinning to himself. “Would you believe it if I said that I got lonely?”
“No,” you shoot back, giving a reluctant smile as you echo his words from earlier.
“What if it’s true?” he challenges.
You level him with a look, studying his face, which is earnest and almost kind in the dim light.
He is either an incredible actor, or he isn’t lying. Either way, it seems the only explanation he’s willing to give right now. So you let out a puff of air. “It’s a deal.” And the two of you shake hands, sealing the promise.
“Did you bring anything with you?” Seonghwa asks, standing up.
“Only myself,” you reply. “I wasn’t sure if I’d survive. Thought it might be silly to haul around a suitcase only to get eaten.”
He scoffs. “Well, those clothes look ragged. I mean, I know you’ve probably had a tough time of it, but let’s find you some new ones.”
You raise an eyebrow. “Do you want me to borrow your clothes?” you say doubtfully.
“I wear plenty of womens’ clothing,” he says, “but I doubt anything I have would fit you. Your room should have suitable clothing. For guests, I mean.”
You follow him down the hall into a beautiful bedroom with a white four-poster hung with shimmering silver curtains. The moonlight through the big, flower-shaped window makes them look like your bed is cased in pixie dust. You stare around, taking in the high, domed ceiling, the soft white comforter on the bed, the door across the room that opens up to a bathroom and walk-in closet, and turn to Seonghwa in shock. “This is…”
“Do you like it?” he asks. And to your bewilderment, he seems almost…anxious. Like he’s worried about you being disappointed.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever been in a more beautiful room,” you reassure him, shaking your head at this ridiculousness -- because who can deny the irony of a monster-hunter soothing the worries of a vampire? “This is very generous for someone who might be your dinner in a few days’ time,” you point out.
The smile broadens. “I’m a gentleman. I would hope I had the decency to make sure your last days are spent comfortably.” With a small bow, Seonghwa excuses himself, allowing you to make yourself at home.
You expect to feel uneasy. You’re in a vampire’s house, for heaven’s sake. But maybe you’re too tired, or maybe you’ve finally lost all sense of self-preservation, but this place feels strangely familiar -- comforting, even. So you do what makes sense. You strip down to your underwear, discarding your dirty, ragged clothes in a heap on the floor, and tuck yourself into the sheets, falling asleep almost immediately.
***
“How did he do this?” you murmur to yourself, letting your hands travel over the many items of clothing in your closet.
Because it’s eerie how the wide walk-in closet is nearly full of clothing items perfectly suited to your taste, that fit you like a glove. You’d thought it odd when you were looking through a drawer in your bedroom armoire and found a soft pink pair of sweatpants in just your size, only to discover upon further inspection that the entire drawer was full of luxurious pajamas and loungewear that you’d have killed to own as a child. A part of you wonders if he did this while you were asleep -- or if he can see the future and knew you were coming. Either option sends a chill down your spine.
It gets weirder when you finally tear yourself away from the closet and go down the stairs. There, Seonghwa stands on alert, his eyes already carefully watching your descent, his hand wrapped around the handle of a pan that is sizzling with some kind of oil. “You’re awake,” he says simply.
“Yes,” you agree, playing with the hem of your shirt.
“How did you sleep?” he asks, turning back toward the stove and pouring some kind of batter into the pan.
“Are you...making crepes, by any chance?” you ask, ignoring his question, as you see the spread of raspberry compote, thick whipped cream, and the creamy almond vanilla spread your mother used to reserve for your birthday, set out in pretty white-and-blue floral bowls. Your favorite crepe toppings, in the prettiest dishes you’ve ever seen. Coincidentally.
“Oh,” he says, his back stiffening. “Uh, yes. I am.”
You cross your arms over your chest. “Wanna explain how all the clothes in your guest room are my size, and I wake up to you making me my favorite crepes?”
He doesn’t turn around, but he does give a low chuckle. “Well, vampires have magic beyond your current understanding, don’t we?” he says.
“That’s a bit of a BS answer,” you say, “but you’ve been surprisingly lovely, so I’ll let it slide.”
Now he does turn around, his eyes wide. “You think so?” he says, that same anxious tone from the night before in his voice.
You narrow your eyes at him. “You really eat people?” you ask dubiously.
He shakes his head. “Common misconception.”
“I’ve been wondering about that,” you say, coming to sit at the long black table. “I know a lot about monsters. But not vampires. We were forbidden to study them.”
“So you have questions?” he asks, flipping the crepe in the pan with an expert flick of the wrist.
“Of course,” you say. “Fangs?”
“What about them?”
“Do you have them?”
He gives a big, fake smile, pointing at his canines, which lengthen as you watch. “Retractable,” he says.
“Sunlight?” you ask.
“Myth. Although I do burn easier, and my eyes are more sensitive, so I have to take sunlight in doses.”
“Do you sleep?”
He sighs. “Myth. Every animal sleeps.”
You hesitate before your next question. “Are you...undead?”
He flips the crepe onto a plate full of them, bringing it over to you so you can make up your own. After a minute, he says, “Well, I suppose one could look at it that way.”
“How do you look at it?” you ask.
“I think humanity is more like a larval stage for vampires,” he explains. “The process of changing from a human being to a vampire does require that your heart stops beating, so I believe that technically, medically, you might be considered dead. But, if the process works correctly, it starts back up again, and it’s changed into something new and powerful. I don’t know if it’s all that different from a caterpillar entering a chrysalis and becoming nothing but mush, only to emerge as a butterfly.”
You nod slowly. “I guess that makes sense.”
He looks at you -- at your furrowed brows and tired eyes -- before he asks, “does it worry you? Becoming a vampire, I mean.”
You fiddle with one of your hangnails and avoid his gaze. “I don’t know what there might be to be nervous about. It sounds like I either become a vampire, or I die. I’ve got nothing to lose anymore, so those are pretty much the two best options I have at the moment.”
“I see,” Seonghwa says after awhile.
“So,” you say, determined to carry the conversation away from your sadness. “Uh, does human food taste like dirt to you?”
“Would human food taste like dirt to a bat?” he counters.
“You’re like a bat?” you say, unable to stop a small smile from spreading slowly across your face.
He sniffs. “Vampires are just like people, but weirder. I usually liken us to a person with catlike reflexes and superhuman speed. And,” he continues, coming to sit in the chair beside you, “I quite like human food. The vampire diet is a bit complex, but I can eat anything you can. I just need human blood to survive.”
“How do you get it?” you ask him before you can stop yourself. “Uh, you don’t have to answer that.”
“I’d prefer not to,” he says, avoiding your gaze and adding more batter to the pan for another crepe.
Your heart sinks. As nice as Seonghwa has been, he is still a monster. He is still dangerous. To distract yourself from this rather irrational bout of disappointment, you ask another question. “Can I ask...how old are you?”
“I’m young in terms of other vampires,” he answers right away, seemingly grateful for this change in subject. “I was changed in 1816.”
“So how old were you when you were changed?”
“I was twenty-four,” he replies, sliding the newly made crepe onto the stack.
“So that would make you...”
“231,” he replies. “Actually, my birthday is in a couple of weeks.”
“Happy almost-232nd birthday?” you faltered, and Seonghwa chuckles.
“Do you know any other vampires?” you ask. When he shoots you a suspicious look, you giggle. “I won’t go hunting them down, I promise.”
He nods, apparently appeased. “I have a few vampire friends. I only see one of them very regularly.”
“How often?”
“Once every couple of years,” he says in an offhand tone. “Enough questions. It’s time for breakfast,” he declares, bringing the stack of crepes to you.
This information gives you pause. Years must feel so short to someone who has seen so many of them, you reason. As you serve yourself crepes, you bite your lip to keep the thousands of other questions from spilling out of you, hoping that in the coming days, Seonghwa might open up just a bit more.
******
“You’re supposed to spend time with me,” a deep voice says from the doorway, making you shriek and drop your book onto the floor. It lands with a heavy thud onto the dark wood slats, and you clutch at your chest where your heart is beating far too fast and shoot a reproachful look at Seonghwa, who is standing there on the threshold of the library, watching you with his strange and unsettling eyes.
“You’re startled,” Seonghwa realizes, his eyes wide, looking a little repentant. “I apologize.”
“A little warning might be nice next time,” you admonish him, sliding off the soft white chaise to pick up the book.
“Edgar Allen Poe?” Seonghwa observes, gesturing at the book.
You shrug. “I’m living in a vampire’s house. Maybe I’m just in a spooky mood.”
The two of you stare at each other wordlessly for a few seconds before you realize Seonghwa is looking at you expectantly. “Did you -- did you need something?” you stutter.
“Yes,” he states. “I need your company. You’ve been holed up in the library for hours.”
He’s right -- you have. You can’t remember the last time you were free to just read without interruption, and the indulgence was a welcome distraction from the blackness of your thoughts. You realize that you’ve let time slip away from you. “I’m sorry,” you apologize bemusedly, realizing that he might have been telling the truth about being lonely after all. “What would you like to do?”
He perks up instantly. “Would you like to see the garden?”
Twenty minutes later, you’re outside, and Seonghwa is showing you through a still-scraggly hedge maze to what he promises is “the best part of this whole house.”
“You’re going to love it,” he says, his eyes brimming with excitement under his thick black sunhat. “It’s just starting to bloom, but as it gets warmer, we can tend to it together.” His voice dips in volume toward the end of his phrase, and he ducks his head shyly as you round a corner into what is probably the most spectacular garden you’ve ever seen.
He’s right -- most of the plants are still green shoots that have newly sprung from the earth. But there are a few crocuses in bloom right at the entrance of the garden, spread between other less-mature plants, and just the sight of them seems to melt a fraction of your icy heart. The rest of the garden is a sweeping array of soil and ivy hanging from stone archways, dotted here and there with a fountain or a statue. You barely realize you’re tearing up until you feel one spill over, hot against your cheek in the cool spring air, and hurry to wipe it away, only to feel a soft finger brush it from your cheekbone before you can.
Seonghwa stares at his hand, looking horrified, before pulling it into his chest in a jerky movement and turning from you to walk down a small path through the flowers. “The rosebushes,” he says, pointing feebly at the thin shrubs backing a small statue of an angel with her wings outspread. “And those are --”
“Daffodils,” you finish, kneeling to inspect the yellow buds with their distinctive, grassy leaves. It looks as though it might bloom in the next few days, but that isn’t what makes you stop here. Something about this place is submerging you in the strongest sensation of deja-vu you’ve ever had, triggered by the sight of the daffodils.
“They’re my favorite,” Seonghwa says quietly, watching you closely. “They always bloom close to my birthday, and as a child it felt like they were for me.”
You look up at him and smile. “Maybe they are.”
He smiles back. “Maybe.”
you take a long, deep breath, inhaling the smell of damp leaves and overgrown grass. it's fall in Hawkins, one of your favorite seasons, but winter is soon on the rise. large, looming clouds fill the gray sky and block out the sun, giving everything a cold, hazy hue. you shiver as the wind blows through your sweater (although you had made sure to wear multiple layers, the wind persisted), and you check your watch.
it’s 3:47 pm and Eddie is late to meet up with you outside of Hawkins High, something that he does every day. it's sort of become a ritual for the two of you, something you never break unless one of you has pre-established plans.
you don't mind the delay much, as he is usually busy talking with his friends after school hours or perhaps getting a talking to by a teacher, but him being this late is rather unusual, especially since the two of you had made plans to hang out. you rock back and forth on your feet as you clutch your textbooks in your arms. it's a nervous habit.
the inside of your nose starts to burn by how frigid the air is becoming so you nuzzle your chin into the collar of your sweater. the janitor passes you and your worry increases.
maybe he's at a Hellfire Club meeting, you think to yourself, one that he didn't tell you about. that would be unlikely, since Eddie can't help but tell you every single thing that he does, but it's not like you're required to know what he's doing at what time. he's not obligated to constantly update you (even though you sort of like it when he does).
as well as being worried about his absence, him being missing leaves you without a ride home from school. the two of you were planning to go to the record store after school today too, but if he wasn't gonna show…
you walk home after a few more minutes of waiting. you don't want to catch a cold just because Eddie had a different obligation that you didn't know about. maybe he was in detention.
but something about it didn't seem right. it seemed unusual for him.
you shouldn't worry about it, you tell yourself. he can handle himself. he's a big boy.
the walk home is boring and long but you enjoy looking at the red and yellow leaves that blow off the tall trees. you think about halloween and what costume you'd like to wear (as well as wondering if Eddie would want to dress up with you too). the fall air always brings thoughts of costumes and candy to your mind.
once you finally reach your house, you take refuge in comfier clothes and make yourself some popcorn as an after school snack. you turn on the TV and find that there's nothing playing that interests you at the moment, so you instead pad up to your room and put on a record. you sink into bed, already feeling sleep beginning to overtake you. you have completely forgotten about the math assignment you need to do, but that is the farthest thing from your mind.
you snuggle up in your white bedsheets and the sound of your record seems farther and farther away until a loud series of knocks disturbs your almost peaceful rest. you blink your bleary, distantly sleepy eyes open and tumble out of bed, heading downstairs.
the knocking gets louder and sort of frantic and you shout a quick just a second! and open the door.
you rub your eyes as the fading light of day blinds you momentarily. you then look at who's standing on your doorstep.
"Eddie?" you say, unable to mask your horror.
he's half leaning on your doorframe, a bloodied hand resting on the trimmed, white wood. his lip is split and his nose is smeared with blood, his face pale and ashen. his right eye is hidden by a grisly, purple splotch, soon turning a whole myriad of other colors. it reminds you of a watercolor project you helped him do for art class.
his brown eyes look at you sadly, blankly. your mouth is wide open.
you don't say anything. he doesn't say anything either.
"jesus christ, Eddie, I-" you search for words to say to him, but your mind is still trying to make sense of the situation. all you can manage to do is take his arm carefully and usher him inside.
"here, come in," you say as steadily as you possibly can. he follows you slowly, and you're worried that he's limping.
his eyes are trained on the carpeted floor and you close the door behind you. he stands in your front walkway and is still quiet. you open and close your mouth, stammering.
"Eddie," you finally say his name with all the gentleness in the world, "Eddie, what happened?"
you touch his arm delicately and frown disheartedly when he flinches.
he continues to be eerily silent, but his eyes keep moving from the floor to your face apprehensively. he blinks a few times and shakes his head.
"just some stupid basketball assholes, that's all," he finally responds, and it's like a breath of fresh air to hear his voice, no matter how hoarse it is. you furrow your brows.
"they… did this to you?" you ask, and he nods. you clench your fists and feel your stomach churn with anger. all that time you had been waiting for him, he had been getting beaten up. your eyes burn.
"..why?" you manage, and Eddie gives you an almost unnoticeable shrug.
"doesn't matter," he replies. you sigh, knowing how untrue his statement was. but you don't want to pry, as it would probably make him upset.
"uh, here, let me go get you an ice pack or something," you say suddenly as you scamper off to the kitchen, opening the door of your freezer frantically. Eddie watches how desperate you are to help him and it gives him a funny feeling in his stomach.
you find one, icy and blue, and you hand it to him. he takes it in his bruised hand yet doesn't move.
"how about- how about you go up to my room while I look for some medicine or something for you," you muster a smile. you watch nervously as he nods, then makes the trek up the stairs to your room.
you hurriedly inspect your cabinets for some medicine, opening and closing doors haphazardly, not caring if the contents inside fall over. you finally return to your bedroom with a little white bottle of tylenol, a glass of water, and your mother's first aid kit that you have never used. you're no nurse, but you want to make sure that Eddie is alright. it's the only thing that matters to you.
the sight of him slumped on the edge of your bed makes your heart break, and you carefully sit down next to him. he doesn't meet your gaze, his hands gripping the ice pack you had given him so tightly that you think it might break. his knuckles are stained with crimson blood.
"hi," you greet him, pressing your arm against his own. his fingers brush against your leg. "I got you water and some meds."
he takes the glass of water, putting the white pills on his tongue and he downs it in no time. he gives the glass back to you and you set it on your bedside table.
the room is quiet save for the sound of the chilly wind blowing from your open window. your heart is beating out of your chest. you put your hand on top of Eddie's own and you can feel him shaking. he stills for a moment, your touch comforting and warm.
you don't say anything but you look over at the brown haired boy. you brush your thumb against the inside of his hand and he suddenly turns his gaze to you, his eyes unsure and almost fearful.
"sorry that I-" his voice cracks, a sound so incredibly foreign coming from him, "I didn't mean to-"
a few tears slip down his pale cheeks and he hiccups. he turns away from you.
"god, this is so fucking stupid." he manages, brown eyes watery. he sniffles.
your eyes go wide, surprised by his sudden, tearful state.
for the first time in the entirety of your friendship with Eddie Munson, you were seeing him cry. and it startles you.
you snap yourself out of your momentary shock as Eddie covers his face with a bruised hand, his sniffles growing more frequent. you stammer and move closer to him.
"oh Eddie, Eddie it's alright," you console the distraught boy as you rest your hand on his forearm. "it's okay, you don't have to cry."
a gasp leaves your throat involuntarily when Eddie wraps his arms around your waist and buries his head in the crook of your neck. he pulls you into him, your chest now flush with his own. you can feel the wetness of his tears staining your skin as well as his bloodied hands clutching the fabric of your shirt. he sobs loudly and you reach a loving hand up to rub his back. you rest your head on his own and listen to him cry, his body shaking.
it feels strange to see him like this - so small and vulnerable. Eddie was all talk, all swift turns on the heel and side eyes with mischievous smirks. but this was so much different.
it makes him seem a little more human, you think to yourself. it makes you understand him better.
you run your hands through his hair and trace your fingers along his spine as he sobs into you. you're quiet, not daring to speak in fear somehow saying the wrong thing, and also because you don't think that's what he needs. sometimes people don't want to be talked to; they just want to be held.
and you do this with proficiency. you are careful with him like he's a delicate little thing made of porcelain or glass. eventually his crying softens and his sniffles decrease in number. he sits in your arms silently for a long while and you let him. you would wait like this for hours if that's what he wanted. you think that the two of you should do this more often, hopefully under nicer circumstances.
you blink when he pulls away from you, but he keeps his face close to your own. he drags his knuckles across his face, wiping the wetness from his cheeks. the blood of his hands mixes with his tears.
"I'm sorry," he mumbles almost shamefully. you rest your hands on his knees.
"don't apologize," you reassure him kindly, "you don't need to."
Eddie looks at you with wide eyes and laces his fingers with your own.
"thank you for being so-" he searches for the right words to say, "so good to me. so nice and everything."
you smile at him and your eyes are filled with adoration. you have a million things you wish to say but now is not the time. you squeeze his hand while also making sure not to squeeze too hard.
"thank you for coming to me," you reply, "for trusting me."
Eddie smiles a sad smile in return and you apprehensively raise your hand to his face, but you pause before your palm meets his cheek.
"can I..?" you murmur and Eddie nods at you with a sort of dreamy, unreadable expression.
"please," he whispers and you almost melt. your soft hand grazes the battered skin of his face as you inspect his bruises.
"god," you whisper, frustration and anger lacing your tone, "can't believe those assholes can get away with doing things like this to people."
Eddie shrugs and doesn't look at you, he's far too nervous to. "that's what happens when you're rich, I guess."
"I know, but," you sigh, not knowing how to fully articulate all the annoyance and sadness you have within your chest, "it's just so unfair."
you suddenly withdraw your hand when you accidentally touch the bruised area around Eddie's eye, causing him to flinch, but he grabs your wrist before you can fully pull away.
"no-" he begins, his eyes looking deep into yours before he swallows thickly with nervousness, "don't. it feels- feels nice."
you blink owlishly at him but you respect his wishes, bestowing your touch to its rightful place. you chuckle as Eddie sighs into your palm, closing his eyes. his skin feels warm where your fingers graze it.
"I still have to clean you up," you murmur as you gaze at his bloodied lips and nose. you wipe away some of the blood from his lip. he chases your touch with what you almost think to be a kiss, but maybe you're seeing things. Eddie's eyes open and he looks softly at you.
"well, you better get to it, then," he smiles, a smile that makes your heart skip a beat. "unless you wanna sit here and touch my face for forever."
you laugh and he laughs too, the two of you slipping back into the easiness of your friendship. the tension has begun to fade away.
"you were the one who wanted it so bad," you tilt your head and grin. he raises a brow at you.
"you were the one who brought that whole first aid kit up here and still haven't opened it," he says pointedly, "are you gonna let me bleed out, or what?"
you laugh and the noise is angelic. you reach for the white box and Eddie gazes at you all the while. he wants to touch you again, or rather for you to touch him - to rest his head on your shoulder and have you thread your fingers through his hair, but he's far too nervous to do so or even ask.
so he doesn't do anything at all. he just sits and stares at you while you grab your first aid kit, not really listening as you talk about how you've never bandaged anyone up like this besides yourself. the light of your lamp casts a warm glow on the delicate features of your face. he wonders what your lips would feel like against his own bruised ones.
a part of him wishes he'd get injured more often, just so you'd be there to fix him.
tbh i need me some zack lee 😢😢 I THINK HES A LIL UNDERRATED WHEN IT COMES TO FICS AND STUFF i think maybe its bcuz he has a love interest??????
FUCKING LOVE ZACK (I say that about most of lookism eh). Tbh he was the first one that I really paid attention to. He had such a great slice of life arc, going from an asshole bully to a compassionate caring guy. And his dedication and tenacity - he never. gives. up.
But the fact that he likes Mira and she is such a queen, it makes me feel bad :(
If you insist though (and please do keep insisting). Thanks for the ask! I need more Zack stuff too tbh
Zack Lee x Reader: Confessing to You (or a little before)
Tumblr media
Zack clutches the bouquet tightly in his hands.
Was this too much? Too old fashioned? Too embarassing? Agh why does this not come easily to me. He considers bashing his head into the flowers but somehow restrains himself.
Zack really wanted to do this properly, and ask you out with some sort of romantic gesture. Now, being here on your doorstep, that is a different story.
"It's obvious Y/N likes you! Stop being a wimp and just ask her out!" Mira had scolded him, after he finally confessed to her last month. It was obvious in hindsight that they wouldn't ever progress from being best friends. Taking the leap from friendship to romance was just too much in the end, especially with all they had been through. Eventually the puppy crush fizzled out. You had an unintentional helping hand with that.
You were always nice to him, then again, you were always nice to everyone. But that time you patched him up after a fight, laughed at his jokes, and promised not to tell Mira; Zack had no choice but to start paying attention to you.
How did he miss someone like you from right under his nose? He knew his friends constantly poked fun at him for being so laser-focused on Mira, but had he really been that bad?
And then when you were paired up together for an assignment - he was done for. The time together allowed his feelings to blossom. Had he ever laughed that much with someone else? Had he ever felt so warm and comfortable in someone else's company? Had his heart pounded this much when he was with Mira?
Zack's crush on you dragged from days to weeks to months. He was never one to really do anything about it, just look at how far he got with Mira. But his confidence grew when he sneakily tried to glance at you and found you already looking. Even more when he noticed you always sought him out to ask how he's doing. And finally he made up his mind when you mentioned in passing that you thought he was the perfect guy.
Maybe he did have a chance, or maybe he would regret it too much if he didn't at least ask.
Zack knocks on your door, and awaits his fate.
