“Nohime”

Usually Nobunaga’s wife 濃姫 has been referred to as “Nouhime” のうひめ, with the “long o”. However, the name as written in the Ehon Taikouki and Bushou Kanjouki 武将感状記 actually had the furigana reading of “Nohime” のひめ with a “short o” sound. Those two texts were believed to be the very origin of this name, so their reading should be authoritative here.

That “no” 濃 kanji also happens to also be the same -no of Mino province, which has always been read with a short o. Some text analysts also have noted that 濃 is a valid kanji version of the “no” の particle (usually written in hiragana in modern day), which is sometimes seen in Sengoku letters, so either way “Nohime” appears to have been the most appropriate reading.

I’m curious why people thought it was read “Nou” with the long-o sound for so long if the furigana has always existed clearly in print. Perhaps it’s done by people who did not have access to the old texts mentioned earlier, and made wrong assumptions.

With this knowledge, I'm going to switch how I refer to her name from now on. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be easy to edit the tags. While I sometimes use both names in the tags to cover my bases, I sometimes forgot and only use the “Nouhime” name in the tag.

It looks like we have a new Osafune blade.

Goke Kanemitsu (1), the widow's blade. He is best known as Naoe Kanetsugu's beloved blade, and he gets his name from when Kanetsugu's wife, Naoe Osen, presented him to the Uesugi Family. He currently resides in the Seikado Bunko Art Museum (2).

Kanetsugu is well known for serving Uesugi Kenshin and his adopted son, Uesugi Kagekatsu. It's said, from the book "The Life of Toyotomi Hideyoshi" (3), that Toyotomi Hideyoshi visited Uesugi Kagekatsu. Kagekatsu called a council between his trusted advisors, and it was Kanetsugu who advised in meeting with Toyotomi (while everyone else advised for assassination). Thanks to Kanetsugu's advice, Kagekatsu avoided war with the Toyotomi and agreed to follow the Toyotomi clan in their effort to unify Japan.

Well, that book is old, so take it with a grain of salt. However, Kanetsugu was well respected by the Uesugi and his advice was considered heavily. He started serving the clan at age 22, and he was a formidable commander in the Battle of Tedorigawa (4), between the Uesugi and Nobunaga forces. Kanetsugu also fought battles against Sassa Narimasa and Maeda Toshiie in the Sea of Japan after Tedorigawa. He followed the Uesugi all the way to the end, even being part of the leadup to the Battle of Sekigahara.

I wish I could provide more information, in English, on Naoe Kanetsugu, but unfortunately there isn't a lot. Here's a few sites, in Japanese, that Wikipedia is citing: 1st (Archived), 2nd, 3rd (Archived).

I thought of a HC request, if that's fine by you: the Warlords each receive a letter signed by an anonymous person saying that "The most important person in their lives is being held hostage."

However, it turns that no one was held hostage, and it was all just an experiment done by MC and Sasuke. I saw this in a comic book story years ago.

I apologize if this is confusing.

Hi Anon! Thank you for stopping into the ol’ ask box. “The most important person in their lives is being held hostage”…? Yikes, even as an experiment that’s cruel (especially as an experiment). So… ok, I’m going to actually acquit Sasuke of this…. Even though he’s not the most emotionally adept, he’s smart enough to know that this kind of note is not the sort of thing you do in Sengoku.

HOWEVER...

We’ve seen in several event routes, that MC, especially if she is feeling inadequate, or jealous or whatever, WOULD indeed do something like this. In event routes, we’ve seen her try to make her suitor jealous, followed them, tried to give Masamune alcohol, considered giving Mitsuhide an aphrodisiac…

Yeah, if this is an event version of MC, she would do this. The question is… does she send the message and hide, HOPING that her suitor will think she is the hostage, OR does she send the message and then stand next to the warlord as he opens it, to see the reaction?

Let’s just assume she’s hiding.

"The most important person in your life is being held hostage."

Nobunaga – Opens the letter, is momentarily worried, but then he notices the top of MC’s head over the edge of the tenshu balcony. He pitches his voice loudly and announces, “Oh no! My WIFE is being held hostage.” There is a shocked whisper of “wife?” from outside, and then a scared squeak because MC loses her grip and almost falls. Nobunaga rushes out to the balcony and pulls her back to safety. Then he assures her that she is the love of his life, and makes her promise to never do anything that stupid again.

Hideyoshi – Panics. But panics in such complete brain melting gibberish, that MC is unable to tell whether or not he is worried about her…. or Nobunaga.

Mitsuhide – Realizes instantly that MC wrote the letter, and – while creeping carefully toward where MC is hiding – says, “Well… that’s way too much to pay for MC. Guess I’m going to just die a sad, lonely, man.” Then he pulls her out of her hiding place and says, “Dear me, I’ve found a tricky little mouse who apparently wants to play games tonight.” Follows that up with some suggestions about what kind of games they could play.

Masamune – Immediately takes off intending to rescue MC. MC has to chase after him to assure him that she is ok after all. After his initial relief passes, he promises her she is the most important person in his life, and makes her promise never to do anything that stupid again.

Ieyasu – “My sourdough starter!” Runs back to his manor to check on it.

Mitsunari – The ransom note gets mixed in with all the loose papers in his room and he never sees it.

Keiji – Plots a daring rescue. Writes a poem about the daring rescue. Puts the poem about the daring rescue to music. Hires a group of travelling players to act out daring rescue. Forgets to actually pull off daring rescue.

Ranmaru – Is doing his secret squirrel spy ninja stuff around the castle when he runs across MC hiding before he even gets the note.

Kennyo – Because everyone is important to Kennyo, he spends the rest of the week checking up on every person he knows to make sure they are ok.

Motonari – Catches MC writing the ransom note and eagerly volunteers to help her carrying the abduction.

Kicho – “And…?”

Kenshin – If you’ve ever wondered why today, Kasugayama Castle is in ruins… well, wonder no more.

Kanetsugu – “Kenshin!” Then realizes that no force in the world could take Kenshin hostage, and hunts down MC’s hiding place. Takes fifteen minutes to icily explain to her why this was a cruel joke, but as soon as she starts crying and apologizing and vowing never to do such a stupid thing again, he gathers her in his arms and assures her that he loves her very much.

Shingen – Reads note, and recognizes MC’s handwriting. It takes him no time whatsoever to locate her. He then spends the rest of the night assuring her how much he loves her, how much she means to him (granted, he probably didn’t need the entire night, but Shingen is thorough).

Yoshimoto – MC realizes that she cannot do this to Yoshimoto – he’s suffered enough in his route and she doesn’t want to push him over the edge. So instead she sends him on a scavenger hunt, and when he follows all the clues, he finds MC at the end, lying in his bed, wearing only rose petals. She spends the rest of the night convincing him how much she loves him.

Yukimura – Enlists Sasuke’s help. Sasuke reads the note. “Wait, I believe I read this in a comic book somewhere.” He helps Yuki find MC where she is hiding. When the inevitable argument follows Yuki’s, “Dummy! How could you do such a thing. You know I love you, right?” Sasuke slinks away.

Sasuke – Is pretty sure he read about this in a comic book, but goes to Azuchi to check on Ieyasu just in case.

Nobunaga wasn’t one to occupy himself with cleaning the rooms of the castle himself, there were maids that regularly did that. But you insisted on leaving the tenshu for you all to clean together, as a way to spend together. The children were also included in this activity, it was a way to bond together.

While you help the children, teaching them how to clean, Nobunaga was having trouble knowing how to clean by himself, even the children were learning faster than him and that left him frustrated. In the end you might have to help him as well.

Uesugi-Takeda alliance.

Kenshin Uesugi.

Kenshin decided he would take the day off so that he could spend it with you and your children, though he wasn’t sure how to spend it. You suggested a relaxing day at the spa, which he wasn’t used to. Staying still and relaxing, leaving your guard down seemed like a difficult task for kenshin, but one that he would do if it meant you and the kids could enjoy yourselves.

He will stay alerted even when he is supposed to relax, ready for defend his family if any potential danger makes itself known. He doesn’t let anyone cover his eyes with anything.

Shingen Takeda.

Shingen is very skilled with furniture, he was used to making toys for the children and building whatever it is you wish. You thought it would be a creative way to spend time together by doing a arts and crafts days, shingen would teach the children how to build things and let them explore their creativity.

Of course, it would be very simple and with safe toys that shingen knows it’s safe for the children. He will love the idea and prepare a day just for this activity, you might also include arts and crafts that you know from the modern era.

Wonder if the lack of Arjuna voice line updates has more to do with scheduling than neglect. I notice Nobunaga Shimazaki’s project list is considerably longer for both 2022 and 2023 than usual and a lot of them are for straight up main or major recurring characters, and three are for movies. Not to mention the events promoting those projects.

I honestly hope that’s the case!

I’ve been really disappointed with fgo’s myroom liens for a while now anyway (starting with charlemagne-he doesn’t have lines for *anyone* from extella link sans astolfo who’s also his paladin and he literally calls altera his sister there) but the paper moon release was just crushingly disappointing to me bc karna and kirei were the only servants, as far as I know, to have any new specific voicelines for any of the servants introduced in the chapter; so I’m just really disappointed because out of the two of Mahabharata servants arjuna and bhima were super close, yknow?

I will say that I don’t personally actually think it was a snub against arjuna specifically though bc this is the same game that didn’t give siegfried updated lines for krimeheild, his actual wife, when she released, they’re just straight up being stupid about this right now for whatever reason so it may be a scheduling issue, or nobunaga was busy, or something, it’s just that it ended up looking bad when it panned out in the end.

So I was clicking around Ikemen Sengoku last night. I found the Act 2 Prologue and read it. Everything seemed as expected until this guy shows up:

Because my pattern-loving brain takes one look and says, "....that's Elvis."

Brain says he's dressed like Elvis. Brain starts running the numbers of why this is. Elvis is a big hit in Hawaii, and Hawaii has a significant Japanese population so maybe they copied Elvis' outfits. Maybe it just happens to look like Elvis, with the white cloth, deep v neck, and gold fringe. And the pale skin + dark hair. Maybe my partial face blindness and inability to make sense of fashion are acting up and nothing is happening whatsoever.

THEN, the other characters talk about Kicho. He disappeared for three months. He has knowledge of the future/our present. Sasuke says history records Kicho as a woman, which you know is my catnip. I search "Kicho Japanese history."

...this is Oda Nobunaga's assassin, spy, and wife. His entire wife. There's art of her wearing a gorgeous purple kimono decorated with flowers while stabbing a guy with a huge, fuck off naginata. I. Wow.

Cybird probably contented themselves with a simple cisswap, like with Jeanne/Jean in Ikemen Vampire. If I was writing this story though, Kicho could have been Oda's spouse, time-traveled to the present, got into Elvis and his music, transitioned to male, returned to the past, and now he and Oda are divorced. Mai can romance the divorcees separately OR get them back together in a polyam triad. I am putting this scenario in the mental microwave and letting it spin.

Nope, not happening. -Technically a tragic backstory as he frequently does Team Oda's dirty work of spying and torture, but his tragic backstory is not quite to the extent that some other characters go through, like poverty, figure-headness, and killing a loved one.

-Technically frequently violent, but it's mostly in the pranks he pulls. Not ferally violent, in a sense. He's sneaky about his violent tendencies. You don't want to mess with his wife, after all. -Divorced? He's a double agent that always goes back to his ex (Team Oda).

-Being an immortal vampire means you must have some complexities and that doesn't excuse you being fruity, monsieur. -Technically an orphan as I don't think we hear much about his birth family as we do Leonardo and Vlad. They're mentioned sometimes but no word on their current status as he tends to focus more on his found family. Until I get confirmed status, he's orphan status to me, thus why the creation of his found one. -Divorced from Vlad, duh.

Ad-Live 2022 [Night Session] - Chiba

Premise: Producer named Jin (Shimazaki) is tasked with ensuring the success of live advertisements, but doesn't have the data to do so. Blade (Enoki) is a man with a cursed “disease”, whereby his genitals have morphed into a sword. He’s looking for way to cure himself, to get back to his wife ‘Saya’. Aramaton (Aramaki) is a man dressed in a sheep plush hoodie, who keeps asking if people “remember him”. His intentions are unclear. Suzumura is the higher-up who checks on them. Jin must enlist in the help of these two to achieve at least 30% viewership in the advertisement broadcasts, in order to keep the studio in money for making Jin’s favourite anime show about “Magical Galaxy Girl Desuko”, and to prevent the "higher-ups" from killing them.

M: I was doing nothing outside the studio when I was brought in as an extra.

(every time E sheathes/unsheathes his “sword”)

N: That's such a good sound!

S: (squints at M, E) Actually, what's wrong with you two?

E: (ad-lib cue) Just as you would imagine.

S: NEVER IN MY LIFE COULD I IMAGINE SOMETHING LIKE THIS! ESPECIALLY YOU!

M: (takes giant spoon prop between legs to match E's "disease") Now that we match, we look like a unit don't we?

E: (touched) I'm so happy! This is the first time I feel understood!

(hug and accidentally poke each other with “swords”)

S: (tries to style them)

E: Oh lemme try this on. (puts coat over sword)

(everyone piles on coats excessively to hide E's sword)

E: No stop! My identity is being erased!

---- ---- ----

(advertising products, E and M have sword fight with their respective *ahem* props)

E: These amazing products can even make music!

S: (frantic whispering from sidelines, RIP head producer) STOP STOP STOP!

---- ---- ----

N: We have to attain 30% viewership to save Desuko's show!

M, E: Who's Desuko?

S: (rushes to them) No no no no no!

N: (simp mode activated) DESUKO IS THE BEST MAGICAL SPACE GALAXY GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE, HOW COULD YOU NOT KNOW?!

Just E jabbing at everything with his sword -- including N's face on a poster

(Advertisement viewership = 5%)

M: Well, this is kinda mine and E's fault...

E: Yes, we're very sorry for the trouble we've caused.

M: In fact, N did an excellent job portraying the magical girl character!

S: (bursts in) WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING? 5% ONLY?!!!

M,E: (points to blame N immediately) It's this guy's fault!

M: (threatening) I’m looking for the person who ate my dear friend Aramaton.

E: Aren't you "Aramaton"?

M: No, that's the name of my pet sheep.

E:??????

---- ---- ----

N: (enthusing about job) What exactly is “entertainment”?

E: It's hurting people for amusement and fun isn't it? [*Enoki PLS]

---- ---- ----

M: (threateningly, holding out picture) Do you recognise this sheep? N: No… E: (stage whispers, innocently) It’s the delicious one!

M: OI. YOU BASTARD.

---- ---- ----

M: (takes out gun for revenge and starts shooting at feet)

S: (jumping so much for his age) WHY ARE THERE UNLIMITED BULLETS?

---- ---- ----

M: Revenge on N for eating Aramaton is mine!

E: No, revenge on N for causing this disease is mine!

M: You think you can dodge my *tama (= bullets) ?

E: (dramatically unsheathes) I may not have any *tama (= balls) left, but I'll definitely slice yours!

(Fight like children as the audience laughs wildly)

S: Okay this is actually impressive… Quick! (smacks N) We’ve gotta film this! (starts recording on phone)

(audience laughing very loudly, echoing sounds)

M: Goodness, what was that?

N: It's probably the voice of the universe!

---- ---- ----

N: What happened to Aramaton?

M: (ad-lib cue) Aramaton didn’t pay his rent! Now all my money is gone! N: You’re not avenging Aramaton for love, but for money?!

---- ---- ----

E: I’m going to the toilet.

M: Eh? How’d you go with (points) that?

E: (accidentally bangs sword against door, monotonous) Ah. N: Isn’t that supposed to be painful???

---- ---- ----

N: (during after talk, praises staff for drawing a wonderful poster for the imaginary “Desuko” anime he mentioned)

M: (praises staff for preparing the props, esp the list of people he killed for revenge and the pot)

S: The staff are amazing at their preparation, thank you everyone. But what’s most shocking is that (E’s sword)! He even brought it from home!

Ending: (The last 10 minutes were honestly so chaotic; they nearly missed the threads of their stories, but made it back in time.) The "higher-ups" are an actual superior alien race, monitoring the humans via TV broadcasting. If the broadcast fails, it proves humanity isn't worth it, and everyone will be killed. Jin is actually an alien who loves anime, and doesn't want to see humanity be destroyed. That's why he's so intent on making TV studios a success. Aramaton is actually the name of Mackey's character's pet sheep. To avenge the death of Aramaton, Mackey kills a list of people who presumable ate Aramaton at a restaurant. But, Jin confesses he recognised Aramaton because the sheep wasn't eaten–it was Jin who abducted Aramaton for an alien experiment. Aramaton is still alive. Blade is not blade. "Saya" is not his wife. Blade IS Saya. Mackey unknowingly killed Saya before this event, and Saya was so revengeful that her soul was absorbed into a male alien vessel. The sword as a disease was also fake. Her main aim is to kill Mackey. Jin is forced to finish the final broadcast, in which he pleads for everyone to forget their grievances and forgive each other, so everyone can move forward. All the characters are moved. Final push comes from a phone call for Blade/Saya: Let all aliens and humans live in peace together.
