The Legend & Butterfly (2023) & Shogun (2024)
I love how modern films are finally discovering Onna Musha (Female Warriors) that already exist in history and bringing them out onto the screen!
Unlike Onna Bugeisha (Female Samurai) who are trained soldiers that fight on the battlefield alongside male Samurai, Onna Musha (Female Warrior) are non-combatants who are trained in the art of self-defence to defend the home and castle as a last line of defence.

“Nohime”
Usually Nobunaga’s wife 濃姫 has been referred to as “Nouhime” のうひめ, with the “long o”. However, the name as written in the Ehon Taikouki and Bushou Kanjouki 武将感状記 actually had the furigana reading of “Nohime” のひめ with a “short o” sound. Those two texts were believed to be the very origin of this name, so their reading should be authoritative here.
That “no” 濃 kanji also happens to also be the same -no of Mino province, which has always been read with a short o. Some text analysts also have noted that 濃 is a valid kanji version of the “no” の particle (usually written in hiragana in modern day), which is sometimes seen in Sengoku letters, so either way “Nohime” appears to have been the most appropriate reading.
I’m curious why people thought it was read “Nou” with the long-o sound for so long if the furigana has always existed clearly in print. Perhaps it’s done by people who did not have access to the old texts mentioned earlier, and made wrong assumptions.
With this knowledge, I'm going to switch how I refer to her name from now on. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be easy to edit the tags. While I sometimes use both names in the tags to cover my bases, I sometimes forgot and only use the “Nouhime” name in the tag.

Sengoku Stuff
Been spending the last few months researching the Sengoku period for a project (NOT a comic) and I’m having fun making up fantasy character designs for different historical figures.
Sticking with the Oda Clan, cause they’re my favorite.
First up, Nohime (濃姫) and Oichi (お市).

Cipher Academy Chapter 13
The Iroha vs Nohime duel begins! Iroha plays his code on the piano, but before solving, Nohime makes some small talk about her failing vision (which is what cued Iroha to make an auditory cipher).
And then Kyora takes over the entire comic with two pages of just her.
awwwwwwww <3
And then we’ve got Kogoe lore under every other spread that we need to keep up on. Is she going to be the main antagonist? (Ed. I hope this is legible)
It turns out the music’s not just sound, but also Braille, which is probably the cleverest cipher I’ve seen in this series yet.
Our boy then gets a stupid amount of cryptocurrency invested in him by our resident Princess, and seems to have a decent basis for pursuing his dream.
Kogoe’s plotting continues however, with a surprising amount of influence for a teenage warmonger.
