Overhearing the Starbucks baristas talk about the difference between Freddy Fazbear and Freddy Krueger. One barista was entirely convinced they were the same character, and the other was explaining they are different.

So I was watching Freddy’s Nightmares (horror anthology show hosted by Freddy Krueger from the eighties that is super cheesy) last night and a segment ended with Freddy Krueger saying, “Learn your pronouns or DIE!” So... I guess Freddy Krueger is an ally, whether we like it or not.

Horror About the American West
(definitions of all nouns in that description are flexible)
Angela Carter, American Ghosts and Old World Wonders. This is a UK only release, but in the 21st century, anyone can get ahold of it. Every story is great, but John Ford's 'Tis Pity She's a Whore was life-changing.
Victor LaVelle, Lone Women. Beautiful, hautning imagery of the vast Montanta wildnerness but alos just the perfect scary story set-up: A woman shows up with a trunk that's securely locked and that she won't allow anyone to open....
Alma Katsu, The Hunger. A mildy trashy fictionalization of the Donner Party but has some great creepy scenes.
Claire Vaye Watkins, Battleborn. Is this collection of literary short stories technically horror? Probably not, but Claire Vay Watkisn herself is an icornic horror archetype that shows up in Scream V, Nightmare on Elm Street VI and specifically the semi-obscure Harlan Ellison novella, The Resurgance of Miss Ankle-Strap Wedge, so everything she does counts as horror. But most importantly, the cosmic horror of all these stories is the Nevada desert, which will kill you impersonally.
V. Castro, Queen of the Cicadas/La Reina de Las Chicharras: What if a novel had the balls-to-the-wall gruesome energy of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Wouldn't that aboslutely rule?
Tananarive Due, The Good House. This book takes place in the far west coast of Washington State, which is a different, wetter kind of "west" than everything else on this list, but I just adore this book. Due is the closet thing we have to a new Stephen King or Stephen Spielberg in terms of her ability to create these richly realized characters who feel like they have full lives off the page. This books gave me the same feelings of love and catharthis that I felt reading The Shining for the very first time.
Stephen Graham Jones, Growing Up Dead in Texas: This is one of Jones' experimental books that are less fun and accessible than his big hits, but it's one that I think of often. It's a critique of a particular kind of true cime memoir, a refusal to turn one's marginalized childhood into a digestible story for the This American Life crowd. It's an ambitious, post-modern work.
Stephen King, 1922: An underrated King novella that hit all his best notes of grim misogyny, rural isolation and Tales From the Crypt gross-outs.
Gillian Flynn, Dark Places. Not as literary as Sharp Objects, not as tight as Gone Girl, but special and beloved to me. This is a tale of the Farm Aid/ Satanic Panic 1980s and really wallows in the isolation and misery of the great plains, .

Notes on the new Goosebumps series
1) Lucas and Margot are adorable, I ship
2) Isaiah needs to chill with the jealousy towards Lucas
3) I'm not offended by the whole "Woke" thing, but I personally don't think they need to keep reminding the audience that James is Gay in nearly every episode. Like, we get it, he's Gay, and that's fine! But come on, just leave it at that. 4) The whole plot revolving around Harold Biddle being burned to death in a house fire after a prank gone wrong, and then coming back to get revenge on the kids of the parents who killed him, gives me both Carrie and Nightmare On Elm Street vibes. I like. 5) From what I've read on ONE website, Chris Geere is APPARENTLY going to be voicing Slappy. Anyone not familiar with him he's a British actor who played Roger Clifford in Pokemon: Detective Pikachu (2019) as well as the lead role playing Jimmy in the 2016 TV series "You're The Worst". If this is true, I think he's gonna do awesome and all the human characters in a Goosebumps story are once again gonna be upstaged by a Ventriloquist Puppet XD (I say "If this is true" because only one website has stated Chris Geere will be the voice of Slappy, but it does not exactly look like a trustworthy source. If this is untrue, they had better remove the article and stop telling lies about Chris Geere, given that the SAGAFTRA strike is still happening).

My favorite slashers.
I know it probably doesn't mean anything to anyone, but I've always wanted to make a list of my top favorite slashers and why I love them. I feel like some of the ones I listed won't surprise you, lol. In fact, none of them will. I'm very predictable. Now if I made a list of killers I actually dislike writing- that might actually surprise you.
1). Jason Voorhees
Tumblr media
Baby boy!
I love Jason because of his character development. I've literally only written him in like three stories, but the amount of growth that he undergoes is incredibly fun to write. I'm also a sucker for physical flaws, so I think his appearance is really beautiful and cute. His backstory is heartbreaking- I probably sympathize with him the most out of any of the killers. Even without altering his personality, he just seems so much like the kind of person to want to grow and make changes (If he had the right person in his life), and I just really think he's a sweet character.
2). Freddy Krueger
Tumblr media
Hey look! It's Jason's husband!
A Nightmare on Elm Street was the very first slasher movie I watched and it's pretty much the only slasher movie that I like. I love Freddy because his past abuse as a child is something I greatly relate to (abusive dads suck ass, bro). Of course I pretend like Freddy is not a pedophile or a rapist because that's just not fun. But altering his personality and writing him in my stories is something I've found to be an extreme joy. He's my favorite killer to write in the slasher dad drabbles. And he makes me happy.
3). Pinhead/Elliot Spencer
Tumblr media
Pinny! My sweetest sweetheart of all sweethearts!
For Elliot, I kind of have little explanation. I think I fell in love with him because he has an obedient, submissive side to him, plus self control. The way he made the agreement with Kirsty in the movie without lying was attractive to me for some reason. His power is very interesting and unique and I've really, really enjoyed being able to mingle with it. Broadening his personality has been fun and I love using him to make other killers jealous and/or submissive. And he's adorable and sweet! Seeing Pinhead just naturally makes me feel giddy inside.
4). Herman Carter
Tumblr media
Oh! There he is. Prince charming. The one we all expected to see sooner.
My version of Herman Carter is a character that I've grown to both love and be proud of. My altering of his personality is what brought my dbd stories to life. Every time I write him for the first time in my stories, I feel like I'm playing choir music in the background as if I'm introducing an epic character. And I love it. I enjoy it. Writing Herman is fun. His personality is so kind, charming, considerate and modest and just everything good. And that makes him one of the funnest characters for me to write. Plus I'll never forget how he was one of the first killers who I turned into an emotional supporter. When I wrote the first chapter of When a Survivor Bullies, it was such a wonderful moment because that's when something beautiful was born. Emotional support slashers.
5). Jeffrey Hawk/Kenneth Chase
Tumblr media
The one everyones tired of me constantly hyping about!
Like Herman, I'm proud of how my version of Jeffrey turned out, and it makes me SO HAPPY when viewers admit to liking him. When I first got into dbd there was literally no positive fics with him. It seemed like everybody hated him, but not me! I'm the fuckin' king at making the biggest bitches likable! Jeffy wudn't even a challenge. Lol, but no seriously, Jeffrey is fun to write. I gave him a personality that's funny, teasing, irritating and caring while still staying true to his finger kinks. Also, I love his appearance. Hey, obese people are awesome and smexy!
6). Evan MacMillan
Tumblr media
Sir papatron! The fictional dad of all dads!
As you can probably guess, I love Evan because I pretty much constantly write him as a overly stressed out dad. He's been both a good guy and an ass-hat in many of my stories. His personality is flexible and I find it rather simple and enjoyable to write. We have a lot in common when it comes to our fathers and broken jaws (again, abusive dads suck!) I just love writing him as the overwhelmed pops who just wants to do good but needs sleep and has way too much responsibility. Writing him in My Saddest Journey? Sooooooooo therapeutic <3 I love my papa.

Scary Movies
Natasha Romanoff x Reader
Word Count: 971
Warnings: None
Summary: Y/n loves Halloween, but is absolutely terrified of Horror films. Natasha gets her to watch one with the Avengers and it goes just about as well as you think.
An: Fluffy, like the comedian
Halloween Masterlist | Marvel Masterlist
Tumblr media
There were a few different types of people when it came to Halloween. There were the horror buffs, the Christians, the children, and the spooky, but not scary skeletons.
Y/n was definitely a spooky, but not scary skeleton. She adored Halloween, but not the scary parts. She loved decorations, candy, jack-o-lanterns, and even Halloween themed movies. Just not Horror.
The woman was easily scared. Which is why she refused to join her teammates during their scary movie marathon. While the rest of her friends were camping out in the den, she was alone in her room.
It was better this way. She couldn't have nightmares about dying a horrific death, if she avoided the material entirely.
She was in her bed, scrolling through her phone, when her bedroom door opened. She peeked over the screen to see her girlfriend in the doorway.
Natasha walked across the room and plopped herself in the bed. Her arms wrapped securely around Y/n's waist. She placed a gentle kiss on the woman's collarbone.
" What happened to the fright fest in the living room?"
Natasha caught her eyes," I'd rather be in here with you."
Y/n put her phone down," I sense ulterior motives."
Natasha's eyes darted away, "No, just wanted to be with my incredible girlfriend…"
Y/n squints her eyes," For a world renowned spy, you've never been good at lying to me."
She sighed, her hand found Y/n's, interlocking their fingers," Come watch a movie with us, just one."
Y/n shook her head," Natasha, you know I don't like horror movies. I don't get what's so fun about being terrified. "
" I'll protect you from the monsters," Natasha squeezes the other woman's hand.
Usually Y/n wouldn't have caved in so easily, but the mixture of her girlfriend begging and boredom was a formidable force.
" And the demons?"
" The demons, the witches, and murderers," Natasha kisses the back of Y/n's hand.
" Fine, one movie."
Y/n lets Natasha pull her out of bed and lead her to the den. Nat plops down in her seat next to Wanda and Y/n falls onto her lap.
" You guys have my venmo right?" Wanda speaks to the men of the team.
" Y/n, you hate scary movies," Clint complains.
" And you're so stubborn," Tony adds.
Steve shrugs," I told you guys not to bet against Wanda."
Y/n cuddles further into Natasha," Glad someone can profit off of my misery."
" Fear not Y/n, everything on the screen is fictional," Thor tries to comfort the girl.
" She knows that," Sam told him.
Bucky interjects," Well, unless it's based on a true story."
" Can we just put the movie on, before I change my mind," Y/n stops the chatter.
" We're watching SAW, just to warn you," Bruce's words cause Y/n to try to get up and leave.
Natasha's grip on the girl tightens," I promised to protect you, didn't I?"
" Saw is legitimately torture. We couldn't have done like Scream or Nightmare on Elm Street. Or any movie with bad editing and graphics that looks fake and unrealistic," Y/n begins to ramble.
" We watched those earlier," Tony shrugs at the girl.
The movie started and Natasha could feel Y/n's body stiffen. She peppered some light kisses behind the girl's ear. " I'll tell you when to close your eyes, ok? I've got you."
Y/n nodded then whispered," I trust you."
True to her word, Natasha signaled Y/n to close her eyes throughout the movie. There were times when Y/n wanted to close them, but Natasha promised her it wasn't bad. While Y/n still witnessed an abundance of the psychological torture, she missed most of the gore.
Hearing the sounds alone put the girl on edge. She was not having a good time at all. Y/n wished she'd stayed in her room. SAW was definitely a level 8 horror movie, and she could at most do a level 4.
Towards the middle of the movie, she was trembling in Natasha's arms. She kept muttering to herself every time something scary happened," I hate this. I hate this. I hate this."
Natasha felt bad seeing Y/n like that. Maybe it was a mistake forcing her to sit through the movie. Natasha had seen the movie plenty of times, she could miss the second half. Y/n needed her.
" Let's go baby," Natasha stood and Y/n clung to the spy like a koala.
The others were too enthralled with the gore to comment.
When they got back to the room, Y/n didn't let go of Natasha.
" Y/n, baby?"
The girl just buried her head deeper into Natasha's neck.
" I'm sorry, no more horror movies. I promise."
The girl still didn't respond. Natasha walked over to the bed and flopped on the bed with Y/n in her arms. That caused the scared girl to laugh a bit.
" Can we cuddle and watch Scary Godmother?"
" The cartoon?"
Y/n nodded rapidly," After so much psychological torture and murder, I need a cartoon."
" Anything you want, baby," Natasha made herself comfortable in bed.
"And um… no games for awhile," Y/n added as she started the PG-rated movie.
Natasha furrowed her eyebrows," Like any games? Or just-"
" All games," Y/n answered swiftly.
Natasha swung her arm around the woman," Got it, no games."
The two got comfortable watching the childish film. The scary thoughts that had swarmed Y/n's mind during the horror film were slowly making their way out. With the warmth radiating off of Natasha and the silly movie on the screen, she felt safe.
She was still not a big horror fan, but maybe it wasn't so bad if she ended up watching a childish movie in her girlfriend's arms.

Nothing fills me with the Christmas spirit faster than Gremlins' opening title sequence. With some fake snow and a matte painting, the Warner Bros. backlot is transformed into a winter wonderland while Darlin Love's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" rings out. It perfectly sets the tone for the 1984 classic's masterful mix of horror, humor, heart, and holiday cheer.
After being impressed with their Freddy Krueger sweater, I was delighted to find a Gremlins Christmas sweater from Fun.com. The design features a trio of caroling Gremlins, a reference to the scene in which they sing for Mrs. Deagle before launching her from a second story window via a supercharged stair lift.
A perfect balance between legitimate outerwear and kitschy "ugly" apparel, the acrylic sweater will make you feel as cozy as the Gremlins depicted on the knit-in design. It features a rib-knit neck, waist, and cuffs, along with a music note pattern. It costs a reasonable $39.99-49.99 (depending on size). I'm wearing a small, and it's true to size.
If you prefer the nice over the naughty, Fun.com also makes a Gremlins sweater featuring Gizmo in a Santa hat. Other officially licensed designs include Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Pennywise, Scooby-Doo, Beetlejuice, Annabelle, Ghostbusters, and more.

Also, do you have any scary movie recommendations? Horror, thriller anything that may make me too scared to fall asleep? (I feel like I haven't felt fear from a film since I was 12, I need something)
Dark Skies. It's an underrated gem of an alien movie, J.K. Simmons is in it, and there's a moment in there that freaks me right the fuck out every single time.
Signs. My favorite movie of all M. Night's movies.
The original Nightmare on Elm Street. I made it five minutes into this one as a kid.
Human Centipede. I know it's hokey and people make fun of it, but when I saw the original for the first time, I nearly got in the car and drove to my parents' house.
The Bay
Open Water, especially since it's based on a true story.
The original Halloween just because it's my all time favorite horror movie. Also one of my comfort movies, but that scene where Michael speedwalks across the street...freaking nailbiting.
It Follows. Incredible camera work and even scarier if you're a degenerate who sleeps around, like me.
Sinister. I can't watch this one again.
The Descent. No one needs to be in caves.

Nightmare on Elm Street legacy sequel that takes place 40 years after the original
Freddy is withered and powerless, the events of the first movie having been long forgotten over time
One day a true crime podcaster digs up his story for content, and Freddy begins slowly building up power by creating dreams based on people’s most pleasant memories, gradually draining their life until he is strong enough to kill again
....and i don’t really know where else to go from there, i just love the idea of making a nostalgia cash-in movie about a predatory force that exploits your memories for their own malicious gain

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t really think Eddie Munson is a devoted fan of horror.
Wait! -holds up trashcan lid shield to ward off the rotten vegetables getting thrown- Hear me out!
I think it really depends on the sub-genre of horror it is, plus if we’re doing pre-S4 canon Eddie or post-S4 headcanon Eddie.
Here are my headcanons based on what we saw of his personality on the show and how that Spring Break may have affected his limits with horror movies.
Pre-season 4 Eddie:
Absolutely loves slasher movies.
The first Nightmare on Elm Street probably creeped him out and made him jump a few times. Theygot so ridiculous after that they became his favorite series.
The first Evil Dead probably creeped him out even more, but then they got ridiculous, so from Evil Dead 2 on he loves them. Would not have had the stomach for the reboot though, even back then.
Would not like the human on human torture porn sub-genre (like Hostel) probably for the same reasons I don’t. I watch movies to escape reality, not be reminded of how messed up humans already are.
Which is why things like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre that are billed as “based on a true story” even when they really aren’t get to him. It’s just close enough to real he doesn’t like it. While it didn’t bug me because by the time I saw it I knew it was only loosely inspired by serial killer Ed Gein, Eddie is from the time when everyone believed that 100% of the story was true.
With that being said, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is actually one of his favorite movies. It has a ridiculous chainsaw fight, of course it’s one of his favorites.
Creature features are mostly okay. Vampires, werewolves, ghosts, monsters, that sort of thing.
Body horror is usually okay.
Despite his metal aesthetic and freak persona he leans heavily into, movies dealing in possession, demons or violent spirits creep him right the fuck out. He probably watched The Exorcist and Poltergeist one time each and didn’t get much sleep after either of them.
Zombie movies are totally okay.
Post-season 4 Eddie (human or vampire):
Absolutely cannot watch the Nightmare on Elm Street series and Evil Dead series. He tries to watch Jason vs Freddy because Jason is his favorite, but doesn’t make it through. Freddy reminds him too much of Vecna now.
At this point, I’m not sure how he would feel about body horror. Something like The Fly or Reanimator might be okay. Hellraiser I’m not too sure on.
Absolutely do not try to make this man watch movies about telepaths, like Carrie or Scanners. Especially Scanners. It will trigger every bit of PTSD he has.
What does everyone else think?

Phoenix's Favorite Films
No special occasion, or anything. I just realized it had been awhile since I thought about this. Calculated based on my metric of "happy it's starting vs bummed that it's over" (which translates loosely to Biggest Feels), I give you the top twelve!
The Shining (1980)
Tumblr media
A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where a sinister presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from both past and future. - dir. Stanley Kubrick

Saltburn (2023), Parasite (2019), and the Rich.
'When the people shall have nothing more to eat, they will eat the rich.' — Rousseau
I'm writing this post becuase I feel most people misinterpret these movies, and how I don't consider either of them to be an 'Eat the rich' movie.
I'm starting with this quote because I often feel like people remove it from its original context, and I feel like putting it back there may make it regain some of its meaning.
Spoiler warning for: Saltburn (2023), Parasite (2019), Glass Onion (2022), The People Under The Stairs (1991).
The rich may get metaphorically or literally eaten in both Saltburn and Parasite, as someone from a 'lower' class gets rid of them and takes their place in the hierarchy, but I feel like when people celebrate these movies they are essentially forgetting that the systems that made these people 'lower class' or 'middle class' do begin with are still in place. [re: Coco's Feel-Good Oppression]
I believe 'The Rich' are inherently something bad, because the Rich can only exist with exploitation, I don't believe every single rich person realizes this is what's happening, and it's almost impossible to become Rich with just honest work, that's why I believe meritocracy is a lie.
In both of these movies, people go up the social ladder. And now what? They have become the rich. (Although in Parasite the protagonists go back down the social ladder. Put a pin on that*) Essentially nothing has changed, the rich just have new names and new faces now. These aren't stories to celebrate. Such as, for example, Glass Onion was, in a way.
In Glass Onion you feel like justice is being served and that an actual change in the system might happen, although capitalism still exists in-universe, Helen Brand finally got compensated financially for the work of her sister, Andi, who got massively screwed over. While in Parasite and Saltburn you just see average people become the oppressors, in a grotesque way. This doesn't necessarily make them Bad Movies and it's really interesting to see how the rich aren't necessarily intrinsically bad people with bad intentions, anyone could be the Rich, they are people, privileged people, people in a position of power, but people, and anyone could become like them under specific circumstances.
Pin*: In Parasite I think it's also very interesting how the protagonists go back down the social ladder way easily than they went up. But I'm not sure how to expand on that. But, I feel like Middle Class people often think of themselves as between rich and poor when they are actually much closer to Poor and Homelessness than they realize.
I feel like in both Parasite and Saltburn we see people commiting acts of violence to become rich but in a way they are also being class traitors, seen in Saltburn as Oliver backstabs Farleigh and in Parasite when the Kim Family literally tries to murder a maid. As for a contrast in Glass Onion we do not see Helen screw over any fellow middle-class people. I feel like part of the horror both in Parasite and Saltburn come from said greed from the protagonists, they don't just want to go up in life, they are slowly becoming perpetrators of the violence that was enacted on them.
In a way, that is to say, in both Parasite and Saltburn the people have nothing to eat, so the rich have not been effectively eaten.
That begs the question of "What would characterize an Eat The Rich movie?"
The People Under the Stairs is a 1991 movie, directed by Wes Craven, the same director as Nightmare on Elm Street, and it's a movie that's not as popular as the other three on the list but bear with me here.
In the movie we follow a black protagonist, nicknamed Fool, his family is being evicted, he lives in the ghetto, so he and a man named Leroy plan to commit crimes to be able to afford cancer treatment for Fool's mother.
In that, they discover in one of the houses, a bunch of people in a basement. (This was actually based on a true story.) The owners of the house being very obviously rich, so the movie continues with Fool befriending the owners' daughter, Alice, although being born in a rich family, she is heavily abused by them and is a kind-hearted person.
At the end of the movie, when our antagonists, Mommy and Daddy, are defeated, we actually see their wealth be redistributed to the community. Oh, did I mention Mommy and Daddy were also the landlords that were evicting Fool's family?
At the end of the movie, the entire community of the Ghetto is together to get the justice they deserve for being mistreated by the landlords for so many years, and I think ultimately that's what makes an 'Eat The Rich' movie for me, the poor people of this Ghetto were getting this justice, not an individual family or just some guy named Oliver Quick, but everyone who was mistreated by the landlords, in this particular instance.
I wish I could compare this in a meaningful way to Glass Onion in which one individual, once again, is getting all the justice, but still feels more 'Eat The Rich' than Saltburn or Parasite, and I think it's because ultimately we don't see Helen as a person corrupted by greed.
That's not to say Saltburn or Parasite are bad movies, once again, but they are not feel-good movies, hell, both of them are horror, and I love both of them and how they explore class dynamics, but I think they fall short in being an 'Eat The Rich' movie.
This is, of course, just some of my ramblings that got way longer than I expected. So I don't have much of a neat conclusion aside from "People often misinterpret media" or "People often try to market ideologies in a way that waters them down" but hopefully you already know that. And thank you for reading :]

Honestly, Let's Address this.
There will always be an arguably fine line between what separates slasher lovers to real-life murderer apologists. While it is a lot more prevalent that you may see, it will always be an argued topic. Let's say you're not entirely keen on slashers but you really enjoy horror movies and gore in cinemas, that doesn't make you any less empathetic for real life instances.
One of the biggest cases that I cannot stress enough is the entire ordeal behind the Extremely Wicked, Shocking, and Vile dramatized story of Ted Bundy. There is a line between those who agree that Bund was an attractive man to those who fantasize about "fixing" him and having sexual relationships with him. The entire point and reason why Ted Bundy was a very effective killer and had so many apologists was because of his inherent attractiveness in the 70s' & 80's. While he may not be attractive to everyone, it was a major factor in his case. Was Ted Bundy a relatively attractive man in the 70's? Yes. Is that an excuse to constantly disrespect all of the very real lives that he took? Absolutely not and you are fucking disgusting if you think that.
It also comes in the form of enjoying true crime without bouncing from one extreme to that other. You can be an avid enjoying of true crime while having a very obvious disgust for those who commit those crimes. I could go on about the whole "humans are curious" and "morbid curiosity," but that fact of the matter is that is the exact reason why this happens.
Slashers ≠ Real life events.
Even then there is another line between being based on a real story and completely fictional that I won't dive into because I shouldn't have to.
Tell me why you watch horror movies and I can 100% without a doubt say that you won't go "because I like fantasizing about killing people." It's curiosity, it's simulation, it's entertainment, it's tension, it's anxiety, it's so many things that don't correlate to real things if you don't want it to. We know that these things are fake and are able to distinguish how to handle "based on a true story" elements.
Do you seriously believe that we, as slasher-fuckers or whatever you want to call us, don't understand that these killers in movies wouldn't put up with everything we right about?
This is fiction, this is mailable, this is interpretation. Do you like it? No? Then why consume this type of media unless it's actively harming those around you.
People who write in the horror community do not stick to every cannon thing presented in a movie for their own enjoyment, but it doesn't matter because the base project is fiction. It is fake and has always been fake from the beginning, nonetheless dramatized.
However when you want to write and interpret things that actually happened in the world such as Bundy & Dahmer, who sadly are quite popular, then we are not on the same plane. These were real people who killed real people, who hurt real people and real families, who were sent to real life sentences and had real thoughts of harming others. We are not the same.
Then there comes the problem of who are we allowed to write for an bend into our own in the slasher community? Michael Myers would kill you in a heartbeat. Jason Voorhees would kill you in a heartbeat. Leatherface would wear you in a heartbeat.
There are many people, take for example, in the Nightmare on Elm Street division that still argue about Krueger's intentions. Was he a pedophile or not? It is never said or mentioned by anyone during the original franchise (as Englund portrays) that hints to sexual violence. Whereas it is very heavily implied during the remake in 2010, yet it is fake and people can still understand that it is fake and to some extent mailable for writing. Are we telling you to consume media for 2010 Krueger and 2010 Krueger only? Absolutely not, but to each their own.
Billy Lenz, another prime example. A sexual predatory if you will, or however you take it. There is such a massive following for him for him but is it inherently wrong? Not necessarily, because it is fake. Depending on how a movie carries itself and exactly what is shown on screen depends on how you handle and apply a character to certain situations.
Take Bo Sinclair. Have you seen the scene with Carly and him? It is sexual and a bit violent, but look at the massive following for all 3 Sinclair brothers.
If there is fake media you don't like, don't consume it.
If there is real media you don't like, don't consume it.
If there is real, dangerous media you don't like, speak up.
So many people make their own universes for these characters that loosely follow anything in their respective movie, which is how they form their own expressions and love for a franchise. A giant problem I've seen recently is The Grabber from The Black Phone. This movie, like all others, is based on something that happens in the real world and has inspiration from something close to the director, but has not happened in this context. Hawke, The Grabber ,was given a lot of freedom to shape his character how he saw fit. Was it ever explicitly said that he was a pedophile? No, not anywhere in the movie. Was it implied? Yes, by one single change to a scene.
Hawke suggested the shirtless scene ideal as it did give a more sinister and, for those who understood, a sexually violent tone. If anything, the symbolism in the 2010 Nightmare on Elm Street was much more straightforward with a pedophilic storyline compared to this movie, and no we aren't going into the instances of terms used in this movie that also aid to this point.
In terms of characters, there isn't much that stands out from Hawke's character from others, but this does NOT mean that this movie is like all others, which it is not. This is a broken-minded antagonist who kidnaps and murders, etc. Motives and looks aside, what other basic horror slasher is not like this? It comes back to mailability of work. While the underlying tone of pedophilia is there, thanks to this scene and dictation, it's still is not explicitly said (as a fake piece of media). You're allowed to find a character attractive without condoning anything that character has ever done. If you chose to see this movie without that point and move forward with writing, go ahead.
Do you think because I write for killers that I condone kidnapping, torture, cannibalism, etc? Absolutely not. But do you know why I still write for these popular icons?
They're fake.
If you leave out key, violent points for a real person, it is not the same if you leave out "cannon" points for a fake character.
It. Is. Not. The. Same.
Please understand and separate fake media from real media, I cannot stress this enough. Especially when it comes to violent media.
