i feel like Otto would use Daemon and Rhaenyra’s secret wedding, mere days after their partners funerals, as the sole ammunition to have Rhaenyra disinherited and second-born!Reader named the Princess of Dragonstone after Otto reminds Viserys the sole reason Rhaenyra was chosen was to prevent Daemon from having the throne. and Alicent will begin planting the seeds of a doubt in Viserys mind that some may not want a the Reader on a throne because she’s adopted but if she married Aegon, the firstborn son, she wouldn’t be contested. that Aegon was better fitted as a consort anyways.
and the Velaryons have mixed feelings about the whole ordeal because Corlys really wanted his blood on the throne but Rhaenys believes the reader will be a much better ruler.
she’s kind of like the “peoples princess” if that makes sense. from a young age she began serving as the king’s cupbearer, allowing her the opportunity to watch the council work, and even there were times when she spoke up. advocating on behalf of the servants for better living conditions or pushing for repairs on the sewage system underneath the city.
not even Rhaenyra could deny that the reader would make a good queen but there’s some resentment directed to her father, angry he still won’t accept that she loves Daemon and there confusion as she watches Daemon wrap a beautiful necklace around the reader’s neck
I apologize for the long haitus, I wanted to return with something so here it is.
The plot just thickens
Before Daemon and Rhaenyra secret wedding, Alicent was already sowing seeds of doubt in Viserys's mind (the reader doesn't have any bastards, last she checked but even so it doesn’t count). And it would be a great irony if Viserys sent Otto away thinking he wanted Aegon to be king (which might be partially true), when in reality it’s the reader he desired to be in the throne. With Lyonel's death, and Rhaenyra's decision to move to Dragonstone with Laenor despite wanting to stay with her sister. Otto and Alicent are only given a better advantage to continue casting doubt on Rhaenyra. Rhaenyra and Daemon's marriage seals the deal, and soon after, they are summoned by a raven from King's Landing.
While the Velaryons may have mixed feelings, they are all in support of the reader in being the chosen heir. It’s Rhaenys who encourages Corlys’ decision to swear his fealty to her. It doesn’t help that Rhaenys believes Rhaenyra and Daemon are the cause for her son’s death and them marrying right after Laena’s death only adds salt to the wound. Rhaenys genuinely believes the reader will be a much better ruler.
When the reader is named heir, there is one final step for both Alicent and Otto to ensure her position (or as they like to say). So it comes as little surprise when the reader is revealed to be wed to Aegon. She already has gained a great deal of knowledge regarding politics throughout the years she was compelled to relocate to accommodate the entire family, from Driftmark to King's Landing to Dragonstone. Alicent and Otto took a step further in letting the reader act as the king's cupbearer, and Viserys naturally agreed. Unlike Rhaenyra who felt undermined in the council, the reader isn't cut off when advocating for herself, rather, she's backed by the green council.
As you mentioned, she has earned the title of the "people's princess” through her charity, her advocacy for improved living conditions for the castle's servants as well insistence on repairing the sewage systems and for better roads. Tales abound in the city about the princess who visits orphanages, escorted, of course, by the finest knights, among them Ser Criston Cole. With all of that, simply wedding the reader to Aegon, already wins him favor at king's landing, besides, it's evident to the court that it's the reader who holds all the power.
It's an internal struggle for Rhaenyra; she feels waves of resentment and anger, sometimes aimed at her father and other times at the reader. But, she can never take the reader's actions personally, not after she offers Rhaenyra dragonstone or when she vows to make her the hand when she ascends the iron throne. So how can she ever be genuinely upset at her beloved sister whom she also thinks would make a wonderful queen?
And for Daemon, whom she observes draping a beautiful necklace—akin to the one he gave her years ago—around her sister's neck. She observes as her ever naive sister turns to face him, beaming as thanks him for the gift.
And for Daemon who she watches wrapping a beautiful necklace around her sister’s neck, similar to the one he gifted her a long time ago. She watches as her sister turns to him, beaming and thanking him for the gift, her sister so naive and innocent. But it won’t be long before Viserys catches wind of it, and if not him, Otto and Alicent will and this is the last thing they ever wish to happen. For they know, no matter how many times they Banish Daemon, he will always find his way to return to your side.

Can you write a post with ur thoughts about the line "What have I done but what was expected of me? Forever upholding the kingdom, the family, the law" cause alicent is the biggest hypocrite to me
Oh yeah this scene is where Alicent's true character shines through the most. She takes a situation where her son has sustained a traumatic injury and has been caught spouting treason and turns it into an opportunity to attack Rhaenyra and her family. Her hatred of Rhaenyra and desire to undermine her overshadows everything else.
Alicent disrespects the Velaryons at least twice in the scene, more than that it's in their own keep on the day of their daughter's funeral. This makes no political sense, as it just distances the Velaryons, one of the most powerful houses at this time. All she sees is how disparaging Laenor, Lucerys, and by extension Corlys, is a way to attack Rhaenyra.
Aemond has just been maimed, in part due to the constant of treason she teaches him (granted she doesn't actually know what happened during the fight). However, the main target of her anger and hatred is Rhaenyra, not Lucerys who wielded the knife, or Viserys who doesn't seem to care enough. She reveals her true motivation when she says her "iconic" line.
Tumblr media
Alicent reveals her true reason for hating Rhaenyra and her family. Rhaenyra refuses to be bound by Westerosi traditions and isn't being punished enough for it. Rhaenyra being named heir is a break from tradition (not law as some TG stans claim). Rhaenyra has had premarital and extramarital sex and hasn't been disinherited or executed for it. Rhaenyra has had sons who aren't her husband's yet they are still declared legitimate.
Alicent is a woman who has been harmed by the patriarchy, but instead of directing her anger at the institution that hurt her, she instead focuses it on women who refuses to be used like she was. Alicent wants the women around her to suffer like she did. That's why she hates that Rhaenyra didn't force herself and Laenor to have sex despite neither wanting it. That's why she wants Rhaenyra to sacrifice everything for Aegon's claim.
This bitterness and hatred is Alicent's core motivation, tainting even things that are supposed to be good. Alicent's love for her children is corrupted by her desire to put Rhaenyra "in her place", hence why she hurts each of them in her pursuit.
Anon, you are very much correct, Alicent is a massive hypocrite. To her the Faith, Westerosi law, and the good of the realm mean basically nothing. Her only priority is upholding the patriarchy and ensuring Rhaenyra suffers at least as much as she did.
Alicent preaches honor and decency, protecting the realm, protecting her children, and following the law while she disregards and trapples each of them. She supports and protects murderers and rapists, where's the honor or decency in that? She causes a war to put an incompetent drunk on the throne, killing thousands of innocent people and burning a massive chunk of the land. She sentences each of her children to death with her actions. And finally, she commits treason again and again, which is obviously breaking the law.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rhaenyra is right, we know all we need to about Alicent once this scene is over. She's nothing more than a bitter and vengeful hypocrite who wants to tear Rhaenyra down because she rebels against the system.

When HotD got out everyone was like Oh, Daemyra is the new, improved Jonerys with good storyline
And I didn’t give it too much attention, you know I stay mostly in my line and don’t mess around with shit that doesn’t interest me (like Jonerys) but now that I think of it…
I’ll do you all one better (and maybe I am late at the party as always, because I can’t be the only one noticing this)
Jonsa is the reversed, evolved, less entitled (both Jon and Sansa start as spoiled characters but have their entitlement beaten out of them pretty soon, and we love them for it), more duty-oriented (thank you Ned) Daemyra.
I mean all signs point in that direction and I see you 👀 GRRM pushing the Jonsa agenda further on!
And now I’ll tell you what sources I have to base my logic on (and maybe I am wrong ey, but I think it fits Jonsa more, as of now, though Martin could totally disprove me going the other way confronted to the way the show concluded knowing his ending).
So, at the beginning of the story, Robb becomes king in the North by popular demand.
In the first episode Viserys becomes heir (and later king) by popular demand.
Both Robb and Viserys inherit their position by their much beloved predecessor (Jaehaerys and Ned) and both are ‘named/appointed’ by a conclave of lords/ladies in the Riverlands ffs.
Both Viserys and Robb end up planting, with their own politics, the seeds of the shit storm that almost threatens to destroy their family after their death.
Robb marries Jeyne (Talisa in the show) instead of the Frey betrothed thus snubbing the Freys and going back on his word. He dies without an heir leaving the North in shambles when he had been a step from winning the war.
Viserys names Rhaenyra heir and then — instead of marrying the Velaryon girl — marries Alicent and has more children knowing that if they were male it could cause disrupt with the line of succession.
Both are idolised after their death — Viserys taking the name of The Peaceful thanks to the ruling and politics of his Queen and council and Robb by being sanctified by his siblings and lords even tho he was the one causing most of the problems who caused his death and almost destroyed the North — both Viserys and Robb loose their heirs.
Viserys loses his sons by Aemma
Robb dies childless and his heirs (Bran, Rickon, Sansa and Arya) are to his knowledge lost (Bran and Rickon presumed killed, Arya presumed dead and Sansa married to a Lannister).
The heir that remains them, their younger brother/sister (Daemon and Sansa) is not considered worthy of inheriting after them — Daemon for his character and Sansa because she has been married to a Lannister — so both do the same thing, they disinherit their lawful and rightful heir (yes Bran and Rickon and Arya are alive but Robb doesn’t know it; Viserys will have Aegon, Aemond, Daeron and Helaena but he doesn’t know nor care) to name another as heir someone who, by law, should pass after the rightful heir.
It seems to me like some pretty big parallels here.
Daemon = Sansa
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daemon and Sansa are the second born children of a couple who love each other and apparently their mother’ fav.
And you know what’s sick? Daemon and Sansa both supported their brother’ right to any extent.
Daemon readied men-at-arms and sworn swords to defend Viserys’ claim when people rumoured Corlys wanted to assemble a fleet to defend Laenor’ right after Rhaenys.
Sansa bled for the northern independence when in KL and then later — and this is only show for now — Sansa gathered the northern army and put KL under siege to defend her brother. Sansa is the one who decided to rally the lords of the North behind House Stark once again (Jon was done fighting) and she was the one to offer Bran the role of Lord of WF when he returned from Beyond the Wall.
Despite being loyal to their family in their own way, both Daemon and Sansa are disinherited by their king in favor of someone they love but that by law should have come after them.
By succession tradition and law the brother of a king becomes before the daughter of a king — unless women can inherit the throne which was not the case in Westeros at the time — so Daemon came before Rhaenyra in the line of succession, yet Viserys disinherited him to name Rhaenyra heir.
By law and tradition of succession Sansa as the trueborn eldest surviving daughter of Ned and Cat in the evenience of Robb dying without heirs (Bran and Rickon are both presumed dead) comes before Jon, the base born son of Ned Stark. (Jon himself says so “by law Winterfell belongs to my sister, Sansa”/“Winterfell belongs to my sister, Sansa”, even though Sansa is a Lannister, a murderess and apparently dissolved in thin air) yet Robb with his will disinherit Sansa to name Jon heir.
Everyone expected Daemon/Sansa to be angry at Jon/Rhaenyra because of it — Rhaenyra herself and the viewer when Jon was named KitN — instead what happened?
Daemon became Rhaenyra’ stauncher supporter and Sansa became Jon’s. Daemon supported Rhaenyra and Sansa supported Jon. When people expected Daemon to lash out when the terms of surrender were issued, he obeyed Rhaenyra order without issue; when the northern lords unsatisfied with Jon’ stay in Dragonstone offered the crown to Sansa, Sansa refused and defended Jon’s claim. All she did in s8 was to defend Jon’s claim to the North and the Realm.
And you know what else is incredible?
Daemon is suspected to have “caused” his first wife’ death and his second wife died in childbirth. Rhea Royce died after a fall from horseback — in the show Daemon kills her, but in the book she dies of the wounds later on, as the hit to the head might have caused her delayed death. Still Daemon is suspected to have caused it — the horse to unseat Rhea — and tried to inherit his wife’ keep.
Sansa “caused” her first betrothed, Joffrey’ death, by telling the truth to Olenna and Margaery which spurned them to have him killed at his own wedding feast. Sansa escapes and her first husband is almost killed for the crime — almost making her a widow.
Both Daemon and Sansa are more skilled than their counterpart in their competence. Daemon is the most skilled warrior of his time, Sansa has learned politics from the best and worst in it.
Daemon finds himself at odds with his brother with the war of the stepstones and Sansa finds herself at odds with her brother whilst in KL as she has to navigate and survive the southern court and Joffrey.
Yet both return to their brother in the end, Sansa by remaining true to her Stark identity (“I am not your daughter, I am the Lord Eddard and lady Catelyn’s daughter. The blood of Winterfell”/ “what if it is truth he wants and justice for his lady?”) and Daemon by winning and giving the crown to his brother.
Sansa wins the battle of bastards through her alliance with the Knights of the Vale and lets her brother take the crown.
Sansa and Daemon are both described as beautiful, charming and dashing. But Daemon is mercurial and Sansa is called a witch for her apparent part in Joffrey’ death.
Both Daemon and Sansa are advisors in their capacity to their brother/king though they have to clamor to be recognised any degree of validity. Sansa has to fight to gain the right to be Jon’s advisor even if he chooses Davos as chief advisor as Viserys chose Otto.
Daemon’s children are the one who inherit the Iron throne after the DotD. Sansa’s children will inherit WF and the North after asoiaf is done.
Jon = Rhaenyra
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jon and Rhaenyra are the odd ones out of this.
Rhaenyra knew her place, she prayed for a brother to inherit the Iron throne just like Jon would have died to defend Robb or any of his siblings (and in the book he does die for fakeArya). But both are ambitious.
Rhaenyra accepts she will be queen and makes of it her identity; Jon dreamed of become Lord of Winterfell before he knew what that entailed.
Both Rhaenyra and Jon expect that their orders — despite their intentions — will be followed, even when they go against hundreds of years of tradition. Rhaenyra as Queen and Jon believes the NW will follow to war against the Boltons when the NW has been neutral for thousand of years. And both pay the ultimate price for it. Death.
Jon is killed by his sworn brothers, Rhaenyra is killed by her brother’s dragon.
Both Rhaenyra and Jon have the temper of their family but they control it for the most part. It takes really big things for it to be spiked. Luke’s death for example.
Both Rhaenyra and Jon are intertwined with fake relationships. Both cause the death of their first lover/spouse.
Rhaenyra marries Laenor to keep the Velaryon in her corner, Laenor who is a gay man — in the book she is much less understanding of it btw — and their relationship is fake and her children aren’t his. In the show she loves him platonically, though I don’t remember that being the case in the book. In the end, whether his death is faked or not, Rhaenyra causes that. Either by having him killed — as they say in the book — or by having him fake his death to marry Daemon to strengthen her claim.
Jon has a “fake” relationship with Ygritte (you know what I think of her in the book) to make sure his undercover mission is accomplished. In the end Jon’ mission is accomplished and even though he “fell in love with her” he still left her and the war between them ended up claiming her life.
After the death of the heir — Balon and Bran and Rickon — Rhaenyra and Jon are both raised to the role of heir by their king with a decree that disinherited/snubbed the previous law-ful heir (Sansa/Daemon).
At the same time, Viserys/Robb have other heirs. Viserys marries and has sons (who have sons), Rickon and Bran are both alive though presumed dead who could end up threatening Jon’s claim once the will becomes active after Jon’ return from the dead.
They have sexual tension with the snubbed heir and value them as advisors though they don’t always agree with their politics.
Jon feels that Sansa’ opinion demeans him before the Lords — tho he names her regent — and Rhaenyra distrust Daemon not to declare war without her say-so.
And yet both Jon and Rhaenyra gain the ripe of Sansa and Daemon’ loyalty.
Even if Jon and Sansa don’t always see eye to eye, Sansa loyalty to Jon is what gets him out of KL alive, without Daemon’ skills as warrior Rhaenyra’ war would have ended long before it started.
Sansa and Daemon both are against Jon and Rhaenyra to surrender their crown, and work to keep the other half in their role.
And you know what? There’s more.
Gifts giving — belonging to a House
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daemon and Sansa both have something that defines their belonging to House Stark.
Sansa’s wolf-bit and Daemon’ sword — which, do I have to go down the sexual metaphor about Sansa’ bosom and Daemon’ sword? — and both whilst speaking of heirs/reading to war to defend the claim to the crown gift the other half something that signifies their belonging to the House as well.
Rhaenyra’ necklace and Jon’s cloak. Both items which Rhaenyra and Jon puts on and basically keeps on for ever — like it was a fucking joke how long Jon kept the cloak on even on Dragonstone —also Rhaenyra necklace resembles a chain (chain of command) and same with Jon’s cloak stripes (which resemble a chain of command).
Rhaenyra confronts Daemon about her being named heir — and perhaps we’ll have something similar in the books for Jon and Sansa. Tho we have something akin to that when Arya confronts Sansa about Jon having the crown and Sansa liking the attention.
Yet both Sansa and Daemon stand strong in their loyalty to Jon above anyone else.
Protecting — destroying some of the earliest and greatest threats the other claim
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vaemond is one of the earliest threats to Rhaenyra rule, just as we know LF has been playing against Jon all along, yet both Sansa and Daemon defend the other half by killing the offender.
Arya and Bran serve as the Viserys in the comparison, because it’s Sansa who passes the sentence (as Arya herself points out) the same way as Daemon is the one who decided to kill Vaemond instead of letting Viserys order of having his tongue removed to be carried out.
Thus removing the earliest threat to the other one’.
Also, both Daemon and Sansa destroyed indirectly or directly another threat to Jon and Rhaenyra by killing Aemond and Daenerys who had the attitude (both of them) of destroying the Realm to take the Iron throne if needed. Aemond would not have taken Aegon’ claim from him but if Aegon had died of his wounds before Rhaenyra was executed, with Maelor and Jaehaerys dead Aemond stood the greatest threat to Rhaenyra. Daemon killed Aemond and Sansa plotted to have the truth about Daenerys uncovered and indirectly causing her death through Jon.
Supporting the other as ruler
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daemon becomes Rhaenyra supporter just as Sansa becomes Jon’s. Even as snubbed heirs they love the new heir and when the time comes they are there, by their side, defending them.
Also, never forget that Sansa/Daemon are always on the side of the consort when it comes to Jon/Rhaenyra whilst that is not true for other characters, who are always afforded place of importance, but not that of the consort.
When Corlys comments on Viserys lack of action in the Stepstones Daemon replies that he can speak of his brother how he well wishes but that is not the truth for others. Similarly Sansa defends Jon (“he’s our king, he’s doing what he thinks best”) even tho she shares the lords preoccupations.
Despite not always seeing eye to eye with Daemon, he is a trusted advisor to Rhaenyra who listens to him. In the same way, despite feeling the need of Sansa’ validation, Sansa is his trusted advisor to the point Jon entrusts the whole of the North to her.
So, yeah, I raise you the Daemyra is the Targaryen version of Jonsa, with Daemon and Rhaenyra being worse people than Jon and Sansa are combined. By ey, there’s a dark streak to the Starks not to be underestimated.

“The King is not above the law! The King cannot name his own heir! Andal tradition takes precedence! Therefore Aegon should be King!”
You mean Jace?
If a King cannot name his own heir, the results of the council of 101 must be thrown out and Rhaenys should be rightfully (by Andal tradition in which a daughter’s claim comes before an uncle’s claim) reinstated.
Aemon was the King’s oldest son and heir. He had one child, Rhaenys.
Since Baelon never actually became king, Aemon’s claim (since they are both dead) is the higher ranking claim.
Baelon’s children have no claim over Rhaenys so Viserys and his line would have to be retroactively disinherited.
Of course King Viserys’ rule should stand since he actively ruled for decades but this is Andal tradition so his children’s claims should by all rights be tossed out and the kingdom corrects its mistakes by making the true heir under Andal tradition queen.
So now Rhaenys is queen.
Following Andal tradition again, a younger brother’s claim comes before an elder daughter so Laena and her descendants would be skipped over in favor of her younger brother.
That’s Laenor.
Laenor would be King after his mother and his eldest son would then become his heir.
That’s Jace.
So… are you sure Andal inheritance is what you are arguing for?

OMG I cannot take this anymore, I’m so tired of expressing my opinions on team black and getting backlash for it. TB supporters need to learn to not be so aggressive when it comes to defending their “Innocent” team. I’m not a green supporter either but I find myself sympathising more with those characters because I feel like they have reasons as to why they are what they are.
When I’m watching the show, I find myself disliking Rhaenyra. She constantly complains about being a female but yet she never does a thing to support her cause. In the books, I’ve heard she disinherits Lady Rosby and Lady Stokesworth on account of their genders and gives everything to their younger brothers. I did read the passage on which it says this and it was said that both girls were never named heir but they were the firstborn and is it not Rhaenyra’s movement to show that women can rule?
Back to her not doing anything about it, she does things, not a lot but the stuff she does do is extremely damaging to her image yet she still acts on them impulsively; Going to the street of silk with Daemon which leads to her marriage with laenor WHICH leads to her bastard children. Had she just not gone and not interacted with Daemon, she could have picked what man she got to marry, it didn’t necessarily have to be love but she could of picked one that could perform their duty and she could be friendly with. She could have done this because her father was allowing her to pick which was rare in those days and just further proves that Visery’s would ignore the customs for her.
I truly do agree with Viserys when he mentions that Jeaharys would have disinherited her and I don’t think Rhaenyra realises how lucky she is to have him as a father. She abandoned him for 6 years, knowing he was dying of an illness and only comes back to beg him to get out his bed and put himself in pain to defend her which he does because he loves her. Adding onto this, Rhaenyra expects to come back to kings landing and everyone to just follow her just because she was named heir, she didn’t stay there to prove her worth or anything. She left it for the greens to manipulate and take over and she is mad that she has no allies there when she’s the one the went into hiding. She’s been named heir for around 20 years at this point, most of the men that swore to her are dead and like they said in the show, most of those oaths are stale now.
The greens are definitely more politically savvy than the blacks which is how they gained so much support, had Rhaenyra stayed in the court and worked on making allies and proving her worth to the realm then maybe the Dance wouldn’t have started. Her hiding away in dragon stone also definitely helped the greens to take the throne because had she been in kings landing then she could have known straight away that her father was dead and the greens would have had a harder time getting the throne, but she left it open for the taking and gets mad when it is taken.
Forgive me for all this, I’m just so incredibly annoyed right now.
i completely agree with you, anon. some TB stans are just impossible to talk too. i usually love it when people with different opinions that mine leave comments on my posts, but i've gotten soooo many disgusting and disturbing messages calling me names, being racist, being incredible misogynistic towards alicent and just being very weird and aggressive.
idk it's very weird how personally TB stans take the criticism towards rhaenyra and daemyra. i mean, daemon gr00med and choked her - a lot of people are obvs NOT going to support this couple and find it very problematic.
i'm not a huge rhaenyra fan too . her character is kinda boring for me, she's giving me an overprivileged-rich-soccer-mom vibes. and yeah she def was not politically savvy (part of the reason i dislike her lol) and made a lot of mistakes. i think that rhaenyra is def a product of viserys's bad parenting skills. he never prepared her to rule, always justified and defended her mistakes (i mean, how are you going to grow as a person when your daddy defends everything you do no matter what?) and he gave her a false sense of security.

Guuys i'm back! And with the finest team black arguments in town! Today our contestant is:
"Alicent is an evil bitch for trying to expose Rhaenyra's sons as bastards, she could have gotten them killed!"
This one is surprisingly popular amongst the blacks, but unsurprisingly dumb. And I'll say why:
First things first, can someone explain to me the reason behind everyone's belief that the strong boys would be killed for this? They are just kids, who took no part in Rhaenyra's lies regarding their legitimacy. The poor children actually believed they were Laenor's sons! (Well except Jace but whatever.)
The real culprits in this mess are their parents, who willingly had them while being fully aware that if exposed on their bs they would be punished. The boys wouldn't be harmed at all, the worst thing that would happen to them would be losing the Velaryon family name, becoming Waters, and getting kicked off the line of succession.
Sucks for them but definitely better that a sword in the neck.
Speaking of their parents. Nyra would have to be disinherited for attempting to put her baseborns on the throne, cheating on her spouse and generally bringing so much shame to the royal family.
Sucks for her too, but you know, reap what you sow girl. You knew the risks.
The one who would actually face serious consequences would be Harwin, for sleeping with the princess and all. Normally he would probably have to be executed, but not before being given the chance to take the black, which he would definitely pick.
So yeah, sucks for you sure, but you keep your head, your dick, and only lose your inheritance. Lmao on second thought this would be a better alternative for him, Larys wouldn't have to kill him to inherit, and he'd be freezing his ass on the wall instead of burning it in Harrenhall.
Happy ending for Lord Strong.
And with that said Alicent would not be causing the deaths of innocent kids and would be able to secure the future reign of her son, so why exactly would that make her an evil selfish bitch? When has trying to avoid your children's inevitable execution at the hands of their half sister been a bad thing?
Team black only really wants Ali to bend over and die, just so that their feminist queen can take over lol. They unironically demand a woman to give up all her agency for someone else, how progressive of them.
Funny how I made this long ass post explaining how Nyra would have to face the consequences of her actions for once in her life but obviously this would only happen in an au where Vizzy was an actual competent king who didn't just live to give his "only child" all that she asks him to.
In our timeline he would just keep denying their bastardry and cutting tongues of all who disagree. And if it became impossible for him to deny reality anymore, he would immediately pardon Nyra and Harwin and legitimize the Strongs, then promptly pretend that nothing happened. It would be infuriating, but also hilariously bad ngl.

I think the Jace of it all boils down rhaenyra being blinded with love like her father. like viserys she picked an heir because she loved him. the writing on the wall may be clear to everyone else but to her that's her son of course that's her heir. perpetuating the cycle of my sovereign parent loved me so much they made a controversial political move to make me heir but they loved me too much to see the ways they needed to protect me. and so Jace is in the unique position of having mommy issues because his mother loved him unconditionally
the thing is the thing isss. rhaenyra knows perfectly well jace is harwin’s son she isn’t stupid but she loves him too much to tell him. what a burden that would be for him! to know he’s the pick he’s the heir and everything everyone’s said about him is right forcing him to consciously lie that he’s laenor’s forever. better he never knows for sure, she thinks
the war would have started bastards or not but they figure heavily in the green council discussion it is her strong boys in line for the throne that justify axing her claim here and now it’s made a moral issue it can be painted the good of the realm so she’s in an impossible spot. disinheriting jace or letting vaemond have driftmark would be a terrible confession of guilt and she doesn’t want to do that to her boys but keeping them in line (disinheriting alicent’s sons) is also definitely fuelling animosity
the strong boys are a political problem and her marriage to daemon exacerbates this as they’re now not only in the way of aegon and his sons but rhaenyra’s trueborn valyrian-looking kids named, of all things, aegon and viserys. for absolutely everyone in the dance who isn’t rhaenyra, all three of the strong boys meeting a quick sticky end is an uncomplicated good, and is going to happen before the real fight starts - everyone sees the black heir is now, obviously, aegon iii, and jace is more aware of this than anyone
and jace knows he’s rhaenyra’s boy he knows she backs his claim. or backed his claim, before there was a new heir, with silver hair and purple eyes and only one father. is he still the pick? if push comes to shove, and it is, is he still her number one boy if his claim ruins her war effort? daemon certainly has other plans, though it’d hurt more to talk about that. best he doesn’t know and hope they never have to tell him

Second and final part. Now I don’t know anything about most of these characters since I’m not a book reader, so I won’t be doing Doran, Arthur, or Gerald.
🌕 🌖 🌗 🌘 🌑 🌒 🌓 🌔 🌕
  Aeys 2
x sister reader
YN was the twin of Rhaella Targaryen, but unlike her twin she and Aerys had gotten along quite well. She’d read to him as he practiced his sword stances, he’d talk on and on about his aspirations to be knighted, and they’d dream about their futures. YN did also get along with her twin Rhaella, the two having nothing but good things to say about the other. Rhaella was the one to tell her first about her love for Ser Bonifer Hasty, YN was certain that if they asked their grandfather he’d allow her to marry her love. But it wasn’t to last, as their father believed that the prince who was promised would come from Aerys and Rhaella’s line. Aerys protested, demanding that he instead marry YN and they at least liked each other. YN held her twin in her arms as Rhaella sobbed, her own heart slightly breaking. But she complied, they all did. Stefan and Tywin offered sympathies but insisted they must all do their duty. The wedding was a somber affair.
After the disaster at Summerhall and the birth of her nephew Rhaegar, Aerys approached YN. Saying that he still loved her and wanted to be with her, but YN pushed him away. He was married to her twin and she would not cause undue humiliation to her sister by indulging in his desires, and besides she was betrothed to a dornish prince. Finishing off her rejection with “You have an heir now, let me go to have children.” But he would not. One day, Rhaella was found dead in her chambers, her baby crying out for its mother. YN suspected poison but had no proof. When the question of marriage came up, Aerys demanded his father marry his sister to him. It wasn’t until 262ac, when their father died did Aerys get his wish. Despite the protests from Tywin, Nobles, and YN.
As king no one would deny him. YN was afraid of her brother now, doing her best to watch over her nephew, now stepson, for her sister Rhaella. The law by Queen Alysanne years ago made it so that the heirs from the first marriage would not be disinherited by the second marriage. For the first years of his reign Aerys had the sense to listen to his hand. YN was grateful for Tywin, being able to be the realist to Aerys grand plans and ambitions. Yet as the years went on, Aerys started to grow irritated at the sight of his wife being friendly with his hand. When YN was finally deemed pregnant, Aerys' paranoia grew. He wanted a healthy child. So he isolated YN from everyone, never letting her see the mistresses he took. One tried to slap away the moon tea offered, and Aerys strangled the woman to death. Eventually, Aerys' paranoia became very apparent. He was cocky and began to disregard advice from everyone, even YN. After her pregnancy, YN had given birth to a pale little boy Viserys lll, and he found himself in her bedroom not caring if she wanted it or not. YN’s nephew Rhaegar tried to defend her, but Aerys would slap the boy away. By the time Duskendale was stirring trouble, YN was forced to birth 5 children. Three of which were miscarried due to Aerys rough behavior with her. Tywin tried to step in once but backed away. YN was always grateful for him, but in the end there was nothing that could stop Aerys from having her. One morning after Aerys had been on top of her all night, he mentioned he was going to duskendale YN tried to say that it was a bad idea, but had unknowingly mentioned Tywin. She was met with a slap, he held her hair tight and kissed her hard.
“You are my sweet sister. If you mention his name again, I’ll have his burnt corpse presented to our children as a warning not to get between us.” YN hoped he would die in Duskendale.
Cregan Stark
(velaryon reader, just imagine maybe Laenor was able to do it once, so YN is the fraternal twin of Jaec)
Usually First Men descendants did not marry non first men, but Cregan wanted no one but the daughter of the princess. YN was the twin sister to Jaecerys Velaryon, unlike her brother she had darker skin and white hair. Cregan was enamored with the girl, but her beauty was only one layer. She also had a mouth on her, and could beat him at his own drinking games. After a month of bonding the boys swore an oath of brotherhood. Cregan and YN met under the weirwood tree, swearing love vows to each other. When it came to the issue of allegiance to The Queen, Rhaenyra, Cregan swore to her on condition that YN stay with him and one day marry him. Jaecerys and YN seemed to agree, as long as YN could do her part for her mother in the war. Her dragon Alaxys was eager to fly in the air.
During the Dance, YN flew point with her brother, and always returned back to the north. She seemed to like the cold more than the warm south. Her betrothed Cregan was always happy to have her back in her arms. He denied her almost nothing, except when she wanted to fight in the Battle of the Gullet and fly to Kings landing for her mother. Cregan had said no, practically holding her down when she ran for her dragon. He could not lose her. When she fought him, vowing that if he stopped her she’d hate him forever. At that he locked her in the warmest room, sitting outside the room hearing her sob and scream in agony. When the news of her brother's death came, YN screamed at Cregan calling him a traitor and a monster. But the death of her mother broke her, she became cold and angry. Stating to Cregan that she wanted to honor her oath, he was already planning to honor the north’s promise and took his betrothed south.
The hour of the wolf began with Alaxys landing in Kings landing with YN and Cregan on her back. The north remembered and the dragon burned with fury. Cregan spared no traitors, for the oath he held and for the love he had for his betrothed. YN was by her little brother’s side as Cregan delivered her vengeance. Alaxys burned the ones YN deemed deserving, Cregan took rest’s heads. When the hour of the wolf ended, YN was hesitant to leave her brother. Cregan reminded her of her vow to him, that they were fire and ice destined to be. She tried to reason that her brother needed her counsel as he was still a child, but his fingers dug deep into her arms. Vowing that he held no mercy for those who broke their oath. With much resistance, Cregan took her back to the north. Alaxys had spent so much time in the cold that she did not feel comfortable in the warmth of the south. They were married as soon as they returned north. It was a tumultuous marriage, full of love and fights. Sometimes YN would blame him for the death of her family, stating that he prevented her from saving them. He would lock her away in their rooms during those times. Eventually Cregan would not let others see her. They even had to fly together, as YN was not allowed to be in the air alone. Cregan enveloped her whole life, but the north remembered their vow of love, and he would not let her break it. She was bound to ice.
Rickard Stark
(Now I don’t know much about him other than the wiki stuff so please be kind)
YN did not notice the possession Rickard had for her. They were happily married for a long time, she gave him several children. During the time of Aerys ii reign, YN grew more fearful of the south. Not trusting that the Targaryens would keep away from the north. Her fears were proven to be true when the prince had stolen their daughter Lyanna. She begged her son Brandon not to venture south to retrieve her, but he was a Stark and he was loyal. The news of her son's imprisonment caused a great fury in her. The King in response, asked for her to come to the south.
Rickard wouldn’t let her go alone, so he placed the maester in charge as they both traveled down south. Once at the red keep, Rickard kept to the shadows as YN pleaded for the release of her children. The king put on the image of listening, but instead just stared at her body. He requested to meet her later in his office chambers, against her better judgment she did. Her husband hid in the shadows the whole time.
As soon as Aerys inevitably moved to assault her, Rickard emerged from the shadows and cut him down. The shocked shouts of his wife were drowned by his fury as he repeatedly brought the sword down onto his body. Damn his honor, his wife needed defending. YN tried to pull him off, but he pushed her away. When the king was unrecognizable, Rickard turned his blood soaked face to YN. She stepped back as he stepped forward, eventually she hit the bed shaking as he towered over her. He took on that bed, his own mad eyes shone with lusty glee. Adrenaline drowning out YN’s cries. He would be her king forever.
Eddard Stark
YN was Ned’s Second wife. Catelyn had passed giving birth to Sansa. YN was Ned’s first love, even if she did not view him that way. Her place was in Starfall, in the warmth of the south. But when Ned asked for her hand and YN refused, he locked them both in her room. He never laid a hand to her, but he went on and on about how she was abandoning him. That his children already had to grow without a birth mother, was she that cruel to deny them a second chance. He would have none but her, and if she would not have him then he would die. Did she want that? For his children to be fatherless as well? For him to die?
YN was broken down to eventually agree. So she was taken from her home to the cold north. She wanted to meet the children first but Ned spirited her away to their shared room. Not wasting any time to bed his lady. Once he was certain she was to carry his seed, he allowed her to leave the room. The children seemed uneasy around her at first, but her calming nature was like a balm to their grief. Unlike Catelyn before her, YN also included Jon in all her activities with the children. Of all the children Jon grew the closest. He looked so much like Ned, that Ned would seem overjoyed that the two were bonded.
Eventually YN got pregnant, the baby draining so much energy from her. But little Arya was so worth the wait. YN thought that since the baby girl drained her so she could rest a bit before another. But Ned wouldn’t have that. He wanted her pregnant almost always. After Rickon, YN begged to be given rest but he called her heartless to deny her children siblings. That she was preventing new life from being born. YN’s life mostly consisted of being pregnant and barefoot. When the King arrived to call for Ned, YN hoped he would take a position as Hand but he denied him. The queen pitied YN, and mused to herself that maybe her marriage was not as bad. Pregnancy after Pregnancy, YN Dayne was exhausted out of life.
Stannis Baratheon
(I’m not a fan of this guy so don’t expect much)
YN was married to a much older man. Stannis had already had a child, so YN believed she was in the clear for having children. But his red priestess told the would be king that their child would be a champion of light. One night YN was met with the image of her towering husband. SHe tried to ask him to leave, but Stannis grabbed her and forced her on the bed. Telling her it would be alright, that their child would be a champion, all the while ignoring her cried to stop. When it was over he rubbed her stomach and promised that their baby would be stronger than him.
Oberyn Martell
YN did not believe that a her, a Lannister, would be betrothed to Oberyn Martell. A staunch lannister hater, and a sexual fiend if you asked her mother. But her uncle was Tywin, and he had final say in the family. So she was sent south.
Oberyn promised that he would be a gentle husband. That he did not blame her for the actions of her uncle, but the stares of the others could not calm her fears. It was like they either pitied her for her situation, or only glared at her blonde hair. Oberyn's children all flocked to her, sweet and kind little things. YN decided to make her situation as best as she could. Her husband had copious lovers, maybe she could find one. She tried to tell Oberyn.
“If you wish to be false to me, I will kill any man or woman who looks your way.” He whispered to her, holding her shaking body. “You are mine now. If you want me to get rid of my infidelity, fine. But I will not let another Lannister bring pain to me. Even If I loved them.”

An almost underrated relationship, that's not often talked about is that between Corlys & his youngest grandchild, Joffrey.
As I mentioned before, Corlys views the position of heir and descendant as separate from each other.
Corlys starts out being very reluctant to allow Laenor to name his first two children after his lover. But in the end, he does give in to Laenor's wishes:
Born in the waning days of 114 AC, the boy was a large, strapping lad, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a pug nose. (Ser Laenor had the aquiline nose, silver-white hair, and purple eyes that bespoke his Valyrian blood.) Laenor’s wish to name the child Joffrey was overruled by his father, Lord Corlys.
— Fire & Blood, Heirs of the Dragon
In 117 AC, on Dragonstone, Princess Rhaenyra bore yet another son. Ser Laenor was at last permitted to name a child after his fallen friend, Ser Joffrey Lonmouth.
— Fire & Blood, Heirs of the Dragon
It's evident that Corlys does care for Joffrey's well being:
Luke’s young brother Joffrey (Jace was still away on his mission north) swore a terrible oath of vengeance against Prince Aemond and Lord Borros. Only the intervention of the Sea Snake and Princess Rhaenys kept the boy from mounting his own dragon at once.
— Fire & Blood, The Dying of the Dragons
At the same time, Corlys chooses to bypass him in the Driftmark succession and instead name Addam as heir. Since Corlys is a blood purist, it's not surprising that he would not allow Joffrey to be his heir while at the same time letting him carry the family name. One of Corlys' most defining traits is that he refuses to harm children. Joffrey's older brothers are both betrothed to girls with Velaryon blood, so the situation is somewhat different with them. Joffrey's betrothal was to a girl of house Manderly (someone not of Corlys' blood).
At the time of this change in the Driftmark succession, Corlys had the upper hand against Rhaenyra. Any decision he made would have to be listened to, otherwise he could threaten to pull support from Rhaenyra's cause. With his wife having passed away recently, it presents Corlys an opportunity unlike anything he's had before. He can finally acknowledge his own sons. Except he doesn't call them as his sons. Instead they are his grandsons:
The Sea Snake seemed more than eager to accept these newfound grandsons.
— Fire & Blood, The Dying of the Dragons
Laenor was about as openly gay as a person could be in a closeted society like Westeros. When Corlys presents his own sons as actually being fathered by Laenor, it's not about selling the lie. It's all politics. He cannot legally claim his own sons AND make them his heirs (something he clearly wants to do) without first disinheriting Joffrey by exposing the truth of his bastardy. As Laenor's legal son, Joffrey would come before Addam & Alyn (Laenor's brothers) in the Driftmark succession. That is how the laws of succession work in Westeros: a son comes before a brother.
Laenor certainly would've preferred to have Joffrey as his heir, rather than the bastard children his father had with another woman.
But what we get is Corlys telling the world that Addam & Alyn are Laenor's sons, and with the two being older than Joffrey, they neatly fit ahead of him in the Driftmark succession. Although this does mean that Corlys can never claim his owns sons no matter how much he wants to, it does serve to protect another child.
The entirety of the succession crisis shows the core of who Corlys truly is: a political player who is always working for his own selfish ends and yet he will never go out of his way to directly endanger an innocent in the course of his plans.

What?
This is the part three! Also, it's your usually warning about Targaryen incest, and killing, but what's new? It's Westeros.
In the blink of an eye, your wedding day is coming. You are too busy to think about how to break it, you already talk to your father about it but he threatened you, he will disinherit you if you won't marry Daemon.
You don't even notice, but when you know it, you already facing each other infront of the Septon, "now, i hereby pronounce, Daemon of the House Targaryen and Y/N of The House Targaryen man and wife, curse to anyone who wants to tear it apart."
'yeah, curse to them.' you think sarcastically because you are the one who want to tear it apart, you see everyone is happy, even Alicent smiles a little and she wears the Targaryen colours instead of her Green colours, you see your sister's face and pray tell, she looks like she can be anywhere but here, while your good friend, Laenor seems so excited with big goofy smile in his face, bless him, you rather see him smile than crying like when his companion died.
"you may kiss each other." the Septon says, you want desperately to shoot him a look or glare but your eyes fixated into your husband's violet one, his calloused hands in your cheeks, caressing it, and with a gentle movement, you feel a very soft material pressed against your lips. 'it's soft' you think to yourself, you never imagine his lips will be so soft like this, now, you are not stranger to the pleasure, your maid already introduced you to that by giving you books but you never put that into an actions, fear that your father will kills you himself if he finds out, and you are still a virgin.
Cheers errupting, everyone seems to very happy at your union, you only give them fake smile, Daemon may has a very soft lips but there's no way you can fall for him just because his lips is soft, right? Your father, Alicent and Royal Family members sit in their seat along with both of you, you keep silent, don't want to speak to your uncle, now husband at all. Everyone keeps congratulating both of you, there's a lot of presence, Lord Lannister gives you gold jewellery in a box, House Tyrell gives you a lot of exquisite snacks and plant of variety of rare roses, House Stark sends you a fur and their regards, wishing you happy marriage, Velaryon giving you silk, a chest of full Lynese silk and tea from Yi Ti, you thank them all. Now, it's time for the King to gives a word, everyone is silent,
"My daughter is named Heir to the Iron Throne years ago. And i am so happy, i know she will make the great Queen, not like me..." you protest a little bit for appearence, you are glad your father knows he is a weak King, "now she is married, i want to gift her something, something that every heir to the Iron Throne needs." he says, one of his guards comes with a trail, he opens it and everyone gasps, you can sense your husband's movement in your side, but your eyes focuse on the gift, "come closer, my dear."
You can hear your heart beating fast, you walk into your father, and kneel infront of him, "this is the sword of our Ancestor, Aegon The Conqueror. This is for you." You almost squeal, it's not just any sword, it's a Valyrian Steel Sword, Blackfyre. It means that you are your father's official heir, no one can challenge your claim as long as you don't go Cruel like Maegor.
"Thank you, Father." you smile, Blackfyre is not as heavy as you think, it's suitable for any combat, and you can feel the weight of the Monarch when you touch it, as if your Ancestor are looking for you and bless you.
***
Your face don't seem nervous at all, but your heart beating so fast that you surprise it doesn't come out from your mouth. After receive Blackfyre from your father, and Daemon who whispers congratulations and a few dance later, it's finally the time to consumate your marriage.
"what if it's hurt?" you ask Alina on the way to your chamber, Alina squeeze your hand gently,
"it will be a pleasure, my Princess, with the right partner, you will enjoy it."
"but..."
"don't be scared. Tell the Prince if you want to stop, i know he will listen to your discomfort."
And now, here you are, sitting in the bed, wear the most revealing clothes you ever wear, you even surprised when Alina comes and tells you to wear this, it's a gift from Ser Laenor, she says. The fabric is very light and doesn't make you feel suffocated at all but the design, it's almost as if you don't wear anything.
Daemon walks in your bedchamber, he pauses when he looks at you and gulps. He feels like he is a boy who never tastes any pleasure before when he sees you and what you wear. You are the most beautiful woman he has ever laid his eyes on, it's always been you, not Rhaenyra nor Mysaria, you. You are the woman of his dreams, he wanted to introduce a pleasure to Rhaenyra and told her that marriage isn't really for political, that she has a right to enjoying herself, but when it comes to you, he doesn't find it in his being to corrupt you, to bring you to the pleasure house, you are proper, firm, stubborn and will kick him first if he ever asks you to go to the pleasure house with him. He loves you long since he could remember, maybe when you were born, the most beautiful baby he ever laid eyes on, at first all he wanted is to protect you, but at times go by, the want to protect change, it's become more feral, more possessive and more animalistic. It was innocent at first, you are his niece after all, but when he sees you growing up, all he wants is to not let you go out, all he wants is to keep you by himself. He even scared of himself when it comes to you, that's why at Rhaenyra's wedding, he didn't reach for Rhaenyra even though he stood closer to her, but he came to your side and protect you, it's always in his instinct to protect you and ensuring your well being before anything else.
"ehm..." you hear someone cough, you look up and see Daemon stands there, blush creeping into your cheeks, your heart is beating so loud you afraid he will hear it, he comes closer, and stands infront of you, his calloused hands once again caresses your cheeks with a gentle touch, his thumb finds your lips and rub it softly. You can see his violet eyes darkens, if that's even possible, your cheeks heaten up, "may i?" he asks, and you nodded, "i need your words, My Fire..." he whispers, you almost cannot bear it when you look at his eyes, full of lust, patience and something you cannot name it,
"yes..." you breath out, and he kisses you, slow at first as to test if you are ready or not, you kiss him back, and as if something snap in him, he kisses you like he is hungry, and it makes your mind go blank. Your clothes are torn, his kisses move to your neck, collarbone, his hands are everywhere you can feel, you bit your lips so tight you feel the blood, and you feel his breath on your intimate area,
"w-what are you doing?" you ask, he looks up and grins,
"i'm going to make you feel good. I promise..."
"b-but..."
"relax, my love..." he says so sweetly, you nodded and then you feel the sensation that makes you moan loudly, his tongue is everywhere you feel, you feel like something inside you might be snap, "come, my love..." and you do, your mind cannot comprehend what's happening but for the first time you feel like it's burn, in the good way, your eyes whitens.
"my love?" you shoot your eyes open, Daemon chuckles, "you almost give me scare there, are you ok?" he asks, his thumb caresses your jaw, he give you a forehead kisses, "please drink it first." he gives you a water from the goblet in his other hand, after you take a sip and he seems content on it,
"what happened?" you ask, your voice is a little bit hoarse,
"you black out, my love." he says, "but it's ok, it happens everytime for a first tims if the pleasure is too much." he explains and you shoot him a look, you feel your inside clench, "now, do you wish to continue or rest? We can stop here if you want?" he asks again, you can feel his hardens in his trousser, you know it's so hard to him, especially when he takes his time to explaining it to you,
"we can continue..." you say, look at his eyes,
"are you sure? I don't want to burden you, my lov--" before he even finishes his talking, you kiss him so hard,
"please... Please take me..." you are now breathless and you can hear Daemon growls lowly, and your first night is perfect.
This is... Please don't kill me because i write this smut without warning *smirk*. Oh gosh, i stan the Consent King💅🏻

Valyrian Demigods of Westeros – Son of Arrax
Queen Alicent Hightower stared out the window of her rooms, picking at the skin around her nails as she awaited news of Princess Rhaenyra's birth. She could not wait until her husband, King Viserys Targaryen, saw his daughter for the whore and liar she was, and finally disinherited her for Prince Aegon, his firstborn son.
For years he had allowed his daughter run rampant and now, here she was, cuckolding Ser Laenor Velaryon, making him believe that the child within her belly was his even though he was a swordswallowing heathen. The Holy Seven would never allow one such as him, or a woman like Rhaenyra to have children. They would right King Viserys mistake, however they needed to.
Hours passed before any news was heard. And what glorious news it was for the Red Keep and Kings Landing.
Queen Alicent heard of the birth through the gossip of her maids, forcing them to tell her of the whispers they'd heard.
"Your Grace, the Crown Princess's birth was successful. She gave birth to a son, Prince Jacaerys Targaryen."
"Targaryen?" Queen Alicent scoffed. "His 'father' is a Velaryon, but of course the Princess gets her way. How slighted will the Velaryon family feel when they learn she birthed a bastard and gave it the Targaryen name?"
She sat down at her table, not noticing the frowns upon her maids faces.
"But, your Grace, the Prince is no bastard. The servants within claim that he has been blessed by the Seven themselves," Mira stated, nervously wringing her hands. The Queens hand snapped around, fury written across her features.
"Blessed?! By the Seven! I order you to tell me where you heard such blasphemy!"
"The servents that were helped the midwives while Crown Princess gave birth," Mira began, shoulders trembling even as she held strong. "Prince Jacaerys was born beneath the shadow of an omen. Many are claiming that it is symbolic of the Prince's divine right to rule but . . ."
"But what? Tell me!"
"A friend of ours said the the Prince was born with curly golden-white hair so bright it shone in the sunlight, and that he had the same eyes as his mother, the Crown Princess, with her skin tone as well. But the reason they say he is blessed is because of the marking upon his forehead. He has birthmark that is shaped like a crown, Your Grace," Tayla explained, smiling faintly. She'd been awestruck upon hearing the story, and she hoped to be able to see the babe and his crown.
"No," Alicent whispered sagging into her chair in shock. The Seven . . . Why would the bless the bastard son of that whore? Why would they bless any Targaryen child when they practiced such unholy, and queer customs?
Both of the maids calles out for the Queen worried as she stared blankly into the distance.
"Leave me." Neither moved, hesitant to leave her when she was onviously distressed. "I said leave me!"
Fearfully, the two fled, leaving the Queen to her misery until one of the King's servants came to fetch her so she could meet her 'grandson.'
Straightening and smoothing out the wrinkles that had formed, she followed the servent with Ser Criston falling into step behind her. Unable to hide her bloodied hands, she hid them by clasping her hands together in front of her belly.
The Servent led her to Princess Rhaenyra's quarters where he stepped to the side to allow her to pass. Ser Criston took up post alongside Ser Westerling, Ser Erryk, and Ser Harwin Strong, barely holding back a sneer as he looked at Ser Harwins gold cloak.
Sweeping inside Queen Alicent found the Princess resting upon a chaise, a glass of wine in her hand as King Viserys, Lord Corlys, and Ser Laenor doted over the baby in his fathers arms. Princess Rhaenys stood behind the chaise Princess Rhaenyra sat in, quietly discussing the birth with her.
Looking up, Princess Rhaenys stared her down with deep purple eyes, "Queen Alicent. I see you have finally decided to join us. We were worried the servant had gotten lost or something had happened to prevent you from coming." Rhaenyra hid a smile with her chalice, eyes glinting in amusement as the insinuation went over her fathers head.
"Alicent! Come, come! Come meet my grandson, Prince Jacaerys Targaryen, Heir of the Heir and Future King of Westeros," King Viserys boasted, smiling widely. Alicent gave him a thin smile as she stepped closer to the babe to observe him.
She felt a pit of dread open within her stomach as she stared down at the babe. He looked just like Tayla had described if not more beautiful than even her own children, much to her horror.
Curly white hair sat upon his head, fluffy from being just cleaned, that seemed to almost glow with golden light when Ser Laenor shifted towards the light. Milky white skin, just like the rest of the Targaryen family and when he opened his eyes, she saw Rhaenyras looking back at her. But it was the marking on his forehead that caught his attention when Lord Corlys brushed the curls away.
The birthmark genuinly looked as if a crown sat upon his brow with a strange marking within the very center. The edges stopped just as they reached his hairline.
Queen Alicent swallowed, stepping back as heart pounded. "He's beautiful, Princess. But I find myself tired from all of this excitement. I believe I shall retire to my rooms for the day, thank you."
"Ah, of course, my dear. Have a wonderful evening," Viserys said, already distracted by the cooing babe.
Trying not to scowl, she left Ser Criston falling back into step behind her. She led him towards the Starry Sept to pray in hopes of this being Rhaenyra's only win. To pave the way for her own son, Prince Aegon Targaryen, the King's firstborn son and rightful heir.
She did not know that this was only the beginning for of the rise of the Blacks.
Prince Jacaerys Targaryen, First of His Name, Born in the Shadow of the Iron Throne, The Born King, the Lawful, Bringer of Justice had been born.

I really am not one to romanticize things, but there are so many things people ignore, twist or leave out completely when discussing Daemon's feelings for Rhaenyra because they want to portray her as unloved or as unworthy of love and it really becomes annoying.
First of all, when he first asked for Rhaenyra's hand in marriage, only the actual death threat stopped him from insisting on the matter/pursuing her any further.
"Viserys refused, and instead exiled Daemon from the Seven Kingdoms, never to return upon penalty of death."
(Add the fact that he was exiled and could not actually do anything regarding their situation once Viserys banished him.)
Then there are his actions after Laena's death, which most people conveniently "forget" about. When Daemon does indeed run away with Rhaenyra and marries her in secret, he actually has - in terms of personal and political gain - more to lose than Rhaenyra does. He not only risks alienating his in-laws, Corlys and Rhaenys, the Velaryons, (remember, the richest house), by: 1) disrespecting Laena's memory by not even mourning her properly (Viserys very clearly states it's an insult), and 2) by also being the prime suspect (and certainly the guilty one) in Laenor's death.
He also alienates himself from his own brother: "It took some time before Viserys and Daemon reconciled."
(People might say the Viserys aspect is not relevant to Daemon, but this is the same Daemon that begged his brother to forgive him and let him return to Court only to give his blessing to his children.)
Now I know this will certainly upset some people, but: with Laena he did not defy absolutely anyone. Corlys agreed and Viserys was still enstranged from him for years as Daemon was still in exile. This time, with Rhaenyra, Daemon actually has good relationships with both parties, and he very clearly says: fuck the Velaryons and fuck Viserys, only so he could marry Rhaenyra. It's an interesting aspect coming from his side and one that it's not actually discussed or acknowledged. Or people do aknowledge it, but refuse to talk about it because it does prove that Daemon loved Rhaenyra, and we can't have that in this fandom. 🙄
Hi there,
I don't think it's accurate to say that Daemon had more to lose than Rhaenyra. Not in the slightest.
Rhaenyra could have lost her crown if Viserys decided to disinherit her when she married Daemon. Rhaenyra was raised to rule, this was a big part of her identity and something she grew up from the time she was a little girl expecting her.
See below:
Tumblr media
Without being Princess of Dragonstone, she would have nothing to her really, which is why she eventually and after Viserys's threats accepts her marriage with Laenor in 114 AC.
Daemon has nowhere this type of skin in the game. He had been exiled from court two times before, he has fallen down far too low in the line of succession to ever be a candidate again. If he was exiled a third time, he would probably just do what he did before - go to the Stepstones. He was a warrior, a conqueror in a sense, and a man. He had much more options and "second chances" than Rhaenyra who was a woman with three small children.
As for the Velaryons they wouldn't really be able to turn their back on Daemon unless Viserys also did, since Viserys could make demands on his brother's name. Moreover, their granddaughters were Daemon's daughters. As their father, Daemon "owned" them in a way - women were under their father's protection and then under the protection of their husbands - so if they wanted to send him away and exile him from Driftmark, they would risk not seeing Baela and Rhaena again. In this regard, Daemon had them by the cojones.
Also important to mention is the fact that he was not a suspect in murdering Laenor. They knew who had murdered Laenor -> Qarl Correy - Daemon was a suspect of paying Qarl to do it. Accusing the king's brother could be considered High Treason, so unless the Velaryons had proof, best for them to keep quiet since the consequences could be dire. Viserys would also not believe it, as we see time and time again he always forgave Daemon and tried to believe the best about him. Hells. he forgives him in 117 AC, five years after him and Rhaenyra were caught together.
"People might say the Viserys aspect is not relevant to Daemon, but this is the same Daemon that begged his brother to forgive him and let him return to Court only to give his blessing to his children" - This is also something I think you're not understanding. Daemon wasn't seeking his brother's forgiveness because Viserys was important to him. He was doing so because his return to Westeros, and his own daughters' future as members of House Targaryen was dependent on Viserys's good will. The power a king had cannot be overstated, and as someone under a king's rule, you would be dependent on his good will. I can recommend you to listen/read to some of the last words of people condemn to death by kings. The vast majority of them always praised the king who was condemning them because they knew, even then, that unless they repented and sought after mercy, that their family and friends could have a world of trouble in the future, that their lives could even be in danger.
I especially recommend the last words of Anne Boleyn, her "death speech" in a sense. She knew well that she had been framed, and that Henry VIII had wanted to get rid of her. However, she was leaving behind a daughter, friends, family members, and it was important that she kept them safe by even before her death, humbling herself to Henry VIII.
This was the kind of power a king had -> even when he sentenced someone to die, the person still had to praise him and speak of their love for him.
There's no better line to describe what Daemon felt for Viserys than this, and if anyone wants to understand what Daemon thought of Viserys, in my very humble opinion, this is what they should think about -> "he spoke no syllable of grief, but his heart hardened against the king, his brother. Thereafter he spoke of King Viserys only with disdain, and began to brood day and night on the succession." (Fire and Blood, pg. 360).
Daemon is not a misunderstood hero that needs defending. History defends him enough already. He was in the words of GRRM "a rogue if there ever was one". As I have said before, if a character needs defending it's Rhaenyra who no one in history tries to defend or even made to look "cool". She's vilanised and the fandom eats that up like candy, never questioning anything and just always believing the worst.
It's never wise to seek to make a grey character white, and we don't have to do it. In fact, I think the allure of Daemon Targaryen is just how unapologetically self serving he is, and we love him for it!
Now I agree he risked very little for Laena (if anything), and that he did risk more for Rhaenyra, but let's not pretend his motives in pursuing Rhaenyra and what he was risking for her were all that noble, or that he gave half a toss in upsetting Viserys even because he confirmed to his brother what happened between himself and Rhaenyra before he asked for her hand in marriage.
We don't have to find noble causes in everything. Characters can be selfish and self-serving and have toxic dynamics and we can still ship them and enjoy them. Just because I like Daemyra doesn't mean I'm going to whitewash them and see everything Daemon did as a big pure demonstration of love for Rhaenyra because it was not and I say this as one of the biggest Daemyra shippers out there who has probably written more than anyone about them. But loving won't make me only see what I want to see, even because... quite honestly some of the takes people have on them are very boring and don't have a leg to stand on.
Now, I do think Daemon desired Rhaenyra a lot - past her crown - I do think they clearly had mad chemistry and couldn't stay away from each other. That Rhaenyra was more than a little obsessed with Daemon to the point of it not being very healthy. I also think he wanted her to be his wife and that in his own way, he cared and even "loved" her. I think in his "brownie-point" system for women Rhaenyra was #1. I also think there are very tragic elements of their story and there's something very cathartic about them being together, and finally marrying, and I think that they were soulmates, they had very similar personalities. But Daemon was not exactly acting out of the kindness of his heart and without interest. He wasn't "risking" everything for her, sorry, I don't and will never subscribe to that idea.
I get the frustration, believe me I've been here since 2019 and since 2018 I have read takes about them. I started writing my fic in a time in which you had to apologise for shipping Daemyra because they were the pinnacle of the bad Targaryens. The response to this, however, cannot be to come up with an entirely different version of who they are. We have to honour the bad and good and acknowledge both, and I trust that no one with sense gets into the asoiaf books because they are expecting very white unproblematic characters.
I like my kings and queens to want power not apologise for it.
I want people to say f_ck you to arranged marriages.
I want my female characters to want to be mothers and wives and still be badasses that hand men their a** to them on a platter.
I want my characters grey.
I don't want Disney.
And I will continue to stan and clap at the silver-haired hot people who ride dragons and I don't have to find a holier than thou reason to do so.
✊🏻
PS: Please note anything I write only concerns the asoiaf events and characters so please leave redacted and any redacted inspired comments and Ryan's fanfiction away from my posts. There's the asoiaf canon and then there's the got canon. You can pick one but you don't get to pick and choose between one and the other to fit an agenda.

Gaslighting someone is a form of abuse, it is what Rhaenyra did to Alicent for yearsss and to her own children, Jacaerys and Lucerys.
If Rhaenyra not announcing to the world that Harwin is Jace, Luke, and Joff's (you forgot one of the children your fav is obsessed with lmao) is gaslighting, then Alicent getting Rhaenyra to accept Viserys marrying Laena when she's planning on marrying him is too. The only reason the Velaryon boys' paternity is an issue is because Alicent made it an issue. Corlys is the head of House Velaryon, he chooses his heir, and he chose to acknowledge Lucerys as heir. Laenor basically adopts the boys and even named Joffrey.
Alicent choosing to obsess over Rhaenyra's family has nothing to do with morals, it's about undermining Rhaenyra as heir. Like I said my post that you're responding to, Rhaenyra has every right to not trust Alicent, even more so when she chooses to declare political war at her wedding to Laenor. Why would she openly admit to something that Alicent and her supporters would use to try to get her disinherited?
Back to morality, if Alicent cared about other people's actions the way she does with Rhaenyra's, I'd be much more understanding and sympathetic. But she doesn't, Alicent constantly allows and helps cover up Aegon's actions. She bribes his rape victim to keep her mouth shut, she forces Helaena to marry him, she does nothing about him raping Helaena when he's drunk, and tells him to just keep the bullying of Aemond quiet. Morality doesn't seem to matter much when it benefits her and her cause.
The realm doesn't care about the paternity of Rhaenyra's children. In F&B even Septon Eustace, the guy who crowned Aegon, doesn't focus on the legitimacy of her sons. Jace is recorded as being seen to be a worthy heir to to IT. It's an open secret basically, one that no one cares enough about to do anything, except Alicent.
Also the power imbalance is not in Rhaenyra's favor in this situation. Do you think she'd care about Alicent's actions if she wasn't the queen consort? Alicent is the second most powerful person in the realm, this issue is about survival. If Alicent stans commiting treason and starting a civil war"to protect her children", why do they condemn Rhaenyra for lying to protect hers?

what do you think would've happened if viserys had married laena instead of alicent?
ooh this is a interesting one, and i think i have a fairly hot take! even if rhaenyra eventually married laenor, the velaryons would have usurped rhaenyra, and she wouldn't have stood a chance against them. now hear me out!!
i'll point out some similarities between corlys and otto; explain why corlys didn't care about blood in canon but would in this hypothetical scenario; and finish with why rhaenyra would've been so much more screwed if they'd moved against her than she ever was fighting against the greens in canon.
first, let's get into corlys and otto, who i think are extremely similar in terms of being power-hungry men, obsessed with procuring their own legacy, with a ruthlessness that makes them take actions to achieve this goal even at the expense of their own family and morals. we see otto pimp his 14-year-old daughter, alicent, out to viserys, who is a literal grown man. but we also see corlys pimp his 12-year-old daughter, laena, out to viserys at the same time. both of them see their daughters as pawns and are fully willing to force them into being child brides for their own personal gain. we also see corlys insisting on supporting rhaenyra, even when he and rhaenys are certain that rhaenyra has not only cucked but killed their son laenor (we know the facts of the situation to be different, but they do not). corlys does this even though it greatly upsets his wife, not out of duty to rhaenyra, but out of professed self-interest: he does not care what rhaenyra has done to his family as long as someone with his last name ends up on the iron throne. first and foremost, corlys's sole priority is his own legacy, just like otto's.
now bella, you might say, why would corlys try to put laena's son on the throne instead of rhaenyra? in the show, he says that he cares more about names than blood. well, in the show, the two options corlys has are: rhaenyra, who will eventually put jace on the throne, who is not velaryon but has the last name velaryon; and aegon, who has neither velaryon blood nor name. i think it's easy for him to dismiss supporting aegon because his legacy won't benefit from doing so at all.
but what if it did? what if the alternative to rhaenyra was laena's son? what if corlys's own grandson was the firstborn son of the king? the whole reason corlys tried to marry laena to viserys was on the assumption that she might bear viserys a son, in the hopes that son would inherit. he clearly views such a possibility as worthwhile enough to sacrifice his daughter's innocence for. so instead of corlys choosing between preserving his name or losing any semblance of connection to the throne, we have corlys choosing between being connected to the throne by name or by blood. and i think there's a strong likelihood he'd make a different choice from what we see in canon.
now, rhaenyra would be smart to try to appease corlys down the line by betrothing baela and jace, just as she did in canon, because baela provides a way for corlys's bloodline to be tied to the throne, in addition to jace providing the velaryon name. but it's important to note that laena would have likely produced heirs for viserys long before rhaenyra ever married laenor. corlys would have begun scheming to have rhaenyra disinherited long before she would have ever been able to make this offer.
and corlys's schemes would bear fruit much faster and easier than otto's did. remember, while otto comes from a powerful house and has a strong political station, he is a second son and stands to inherit nothing. corlys is the head of house velaryon, and directly commands all of its resources in a way otto never had access to with his own house. corlys has much more political prestige; he has the ancient valyrian bloodline; he's basically the source of viserys's only naval power; he's much richer than house targaryen even is. and through rhaenys he wields his own dragon, one of the oldest and the fastest alive; we've seen that rhaenys would jump at the chance to support her daughter/granddaughters over rhaenyra's sons and she wouldn't hesitate to back him up with meleys. his desires carry so much more weight than otto's do.
if corlys demanded to viserys, after laena had a son, that he disinherit rhaenyra, i don't think viserys would have stood up to him the way he stood up to alicent and otto. i don't know that he could have afforded to from a political standpoint, for all his guilt over aemma's death. consider how even to alicent, even years into their marriage, he questioned whether he'd done the right thing by making rhaenyra heir. corlys would have seized upon that indecision while rhaenyra was still new to the position. he would have gotten her disinherited in favor of laena's son.
and after that, rhaenyra would have been seen as trying to usurp the throne if she'd made a move to be reinstated. her hands would also be tied, because she wouldn't be able to go against corlys: if she still had her bastards, it would be political suicide to risk angering him and losing the velaryon's support. if he accused her of going outside her marriage to laenor publicly, it would be her ruin. so i don't know that she would have been able to mobilize against him if she became old enough to feel slighted at being passed over. i also think that she wouldn't have fought for the throne nearly as hard if doing so would be going against viserys's wishes.
tldr: if corlys married laena to viserys, he would have pushed viserys into disinheriting rhaenyra long before rhaenyra ever got married herself. then, even if rhaenyra married laenor, he'd be able to blackmail her because of her bastards into never trying to take the throne from laena's son. rhaenyra also wouldn't have any traction if she was going against viserys's own decision.

The Complexities of Vaemond Velaryon's Claim and the Succession of Driftmark
Tumblr media
I was re-watching HotD S1E8 - "Lord of the Tides" and was reminded of just how complex the issue with the succession for Driftmark is.
SPOILERS: House of the Dragon, Fire & Blood, A Song of Ice & Fire books and Game of Thrones.
Before we begin: hats off Vaemond's actor, Wil Johnson. He did incredible as Vaemond, I hung onto every word he said. I could feel just how pissed off he was. Round o' applause for such an excellent actor!
Disclaimer: I'm neither strictly Team Black or Team Green. There are characters I like/find interesting on both sides. I also want to make it clear, that although I point out how Vaemond is right about some stuff, I personally don't really care about the circumstances surrounding Luke's birth as both Laenor and Corlys claimed him.
Let's get into this...
We know that Corlys has been mortally wounded during battle in the stepstones, which has resulted in a fever. He may not survive, so Vaemond believes now is the perfect time to make a case for him to inherit Driftmark, and not his *official* nephew Lucerys. He knows he'll have the backing of the Greens, as they have been looking for a window into knocking Rhaenyra out of the line of succession in favor of Aegon. It's a very "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" type of alliance. No one actually cares about one another, it's about one-upping a common foe together.
The argument being made by Vaemond and others, is essentially that Luke shouldn't inherit Driftmark because:
He is a bastard.
He is still very young (14).
He hasn't been raised on Driftmark.
I am quickly going to address the last two points:
1.) Luke's age doesn't matter. Children take their inheritance at crazy young ages all the time in-universe. Aegon III took the throne at 10. They rely on advisors, or regents (like Lysa Arryn being Lady Regent of the Vale until Robin comes of age), but they're still entitled to their inheritance. Fully disinheriting someone based on age is rather ludicrous.
2.) As Lord Beesbury pointed out, a person's abilities doesn't alter their entitlement to their inheritance unless it's something very serious or the current ruler decides against them for [insert reason here.] If abilities meant anything in terms of Westerosi succession then they sure as hell wouldn't be trying to put Aegon of all people on the throne. Obviously Rhaenyra could have done better by sending Luke as a ward to Driftmark under Rhaenys, but again, that doesn't matter enough to disinherit someone.
Tumblr media
Now due to the taboo of accusing Rhaenyra of being unfaithful to Laenor, he can't outright say the first point, but it is still very much being said, and he and makes it apparent when he uses terminology like "Velaryon blood", and talk of "bloodlines." Vaemond insinuating that he is a better fit for Driftmark over Luke due to his Velaryon blood, is essentially pointing out that Luke has none.
In Westeros the simplest order of succession goes Lord --->Firstborn son--->Firstborn grandson and so on, following a direct line of descendants. We'll come back to this in a moment though, because it's not as simple as many would think.
After Corlys, the next Lord of the Tides was supposed to be Laenor, but due to his "death" it flows to Luke. While Luke was born out of wedlock, he has not been disowned as such and carries the Velaryon name through Laenor, his official father.
But the thing is, Vaemond is technically right. By laws of succession, due to Luke being a bastard, he shouldn't be the heir to Driftmark. And he by all accounts, is speaking the truth here.
But guess what? That also wouldn't make Vaemond the heir to Driftmark either!
Tumblr media
Vaemond only gets Driftmark if Corlys has no other living grandchildren. If Luke were publicly outed as a bastard and stripped of all his titles and inheritance, they would not automatically go to Vaemond, but Baela and Rhaena. The law of succession always follows the line of the direct descendants of the eldest living male heir. Vaemond is not a direct descendant of Corlys, but their father, who has passed. Corlys is the current Lord of the Tides. Had Laenor passed away before Laena with no children on his own, then Driftmark would have went to Laena. With Laenor gone, and Luke disinherited, the claim then goes from Corly's grandson to granddaughter. That is how primogeniture works in Westeros and also why Rhaenys was even considered for the Iron Throne in the first place, as she was the sole living heir of King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne's firstborn son, Aemon.
Males are favored, but not absolute. Sons and grandsons come before daughters and granddaughters. But all come before an uncle or aunt. The only time an uncle or another male relative takes precedent, is if his lord-brother or father declares him heir (Jahaerys with Baelon), or he usurps it (there are a few examples of this happening in the ASOIAF books, and even one during this period with Lady Jeyne Arryn, who should make an appearance in S2.)
The argument could go that because they're women they can pass on the Verlaryon blood, but not the Velaryon name. Somewhat true, however easily corrected, as there have been several examples of lords taking on their mother's surname when they're the heirs to a land or region (See: Maege Mormont.) Likewise, Baela or Rhaena could take their mother's surname, and their children can opt into taking the Velaryon name as well, and that would actually be expected.
Tumblr media
So, Vaemond is right, but he is mostly wrong. And he is trying to rob his very own nieces, those of legit Velaryon blood, from their birthright.
This is why Vaemond is far from just someone concerned with his own house being snuffed out. He is playing the game of thrones, like everyone else. He just lost early-on.
When Rhaenys announces that she has agreed to wed Baela and Rhaena to Jace and Luke, that should've been enough to satisfy his supposed concerns: that house Velaryon would die out in both blood and name. Don't get me wrong, I do think Vaemond is legitimately concerned, that is apparent in his passion; but he also has his own agenda. The marriage of Luke and Rhaena would mean that the next heir to Driftmark would have the Velaryon name passed down through Luke, and Velaryon blood passed down through Rhaena. House Velaryon would be far from ending.
I know people (rightfully) harp on Rhaenyra for backing her son's claim to Driftmark over Baela and Rhaena. That is wrong, but at least she did insure that they would have power. Rhaena being Lady of Driftmark means that she will reside over the birthland of her mother (and given how Luke has been raised, I'm going to assume co-leader as well.) Baela marrying Jace means she will be queen one day, which will make her the second-most powerful person in the Seven Kingdoms by rank (and given her personality in the book, as well as the bits and pieces we get in the show and deleted scenes: also in practice.) As far as we know, Vaemond had no plans to give his nieces anything; he has his own wife, children and grandchildren at this point.
If Vaemond's only true concern was the survival of his house, then the arrangement for Luke and Rhaena, in theory, should be perfect to him. But what does he do? He doubles-down, makes a spectacle of himself and it costs him his life. Brutally, might I add. Even if Daemon didn't kill him, Vaemond would've left King's Landing tongue-less.
But, it didn't even have to resort to that. Daemon aside, let's just say that he still wants Driftmark for himself, there were smarter ways to react. I honestly think he should've just been more politically practical, and took a page out of Otto's book.
Tumblr media
Otto took a big L in this episode. This court meeting was supposed to be the beginning of the end for Rhaenyra as heir. His plan was to get Vaemond to press the claim of Driftmark, with Otto sitting the Iron Throne in-lieu of Viserys, he would of course side with Vaemond no matter how good of a reasoning Rhaenyra made. Luke would be publicly outed as a bastard, which would then delegitimize Jace, and then Rhaenyra herself. Then bam, Aegon II is made heir.
But his plans are foiled when Viserys makes his surprise entrance. You can see the look on he and Alicent's face. They know they're screwed and Plan A is down the toilet. But they don't run around calling Rhaenyra a "whore" and rant to Viserys about how he has robbed Aegon. They sit back, observe and roll with the punches, because Otto is that person that always has a Plan B (as we see in the following episode.)
If Vaemond wasn't so wrapped up in his own ambitions, then he would've heard of the match, fake smiled at it, and then met with the Greens afterwards to plot another way on how he could get Driftmark. Hell, he could've even bargained with Rhaenyra for him to be made Master of Ships on the Small Council in the event of his brother's passing. But he doesn't, and the chips fell where they did.
Overall Vaemond is a tragic character, because he struggles with second-son syndrome similar to how Daemon and Aemond do. He does clearly care for his family, but wishes to find his own footing within it and is envious of his older brother for having the most power. I truly think he would have been fascinating to see if he would've become a political player for the Greens or Team Black, or did something all on his own. But alas, he wasn't that kind of character. Vaemond is similar to Ned Stark in the way that they both forget how to play the game and it ends up costing them greatly.
