Ty/Tandy for #1 from the prompt list! 🌒✨
things you said at 1 AM
In the weeks after the Blip, the city echoes in a way that Ty just can’t get used to. It feels like he’s back in that church again, every stray noise reverberating and the whole place lonelier for it.
He would almost prefer to be in the church, when he thinks about it. At least then the resonant quiet would be expected. Instead, he’s back at home, and he has to deal with emptiness in a place that he’d known to be full of life, even when it was tinged with grief.
Both of his parents have disappeared. He hasn’t been able to open the door to their bedroom since it happened, tries not to even go near it unless he can’t help it. If it stays closed, he can pretend that they’re just asleep, or working, or away for a weekend on some kind of trip. If it stays closed, he doesn’t have to think about it.
He and Tandy have spent nearly every night patrolling the streets, because with this kind of catastrophe come power vacuums and people ruthless enough to fill them. Usually, he gets back around dawn, too exhausted to do anything but collapse into bed.
Tonight, though, it’s raining so hard that even the criminals have opted to stay home. They’d checked a few of their usual spots with no luck, just ended up soaked to the bone for their trouble. Ty thinks he might have tried to stay out longer, but Tandy’s teeth were chattering so loudly that he could hear it over the rain, and he hadn’t wanted her to get sick.
He hadn’t thought about it before cloaking them back to his house. Before Ty could offer to take her back to her mom’s place, Tandy was grabbing clothes from his chest of drawers and a towel from the linen closet–just beyond his parents’ bedroom–before tossing him one, too. Ty had told her to use the bathroom attached to his bedroom and headed down to the hall bath to give her some space. Room to breathe had been a rare luxury, when they were on their cross-country vigilante-ing trip, and it’s been a strange transition to not be attached at the hip anymore, but Ty can’t begrudge Tandy something she hasn’t had in so long.
Ty’s shower is utilitarian at best, just enough to get warm again. He doesn’t want to go back into his room, so he goes downstairs instead, flicking on the lights as he does.
He means to sit up and wait for Tandy so he can take her home, but the drumming of the rain fills up the quiet long enough that he dozes off, his head pillowed on his arms.
When he wakes up, it’s to the sound of someone moving around in the kitchen. There’s a blanket draped over him, too, one of the ones his mom used to keep draped over the armchair but never used.
He has to blink a few times before Tandy becomes clearer.
“What are you looking for?” he asks, as she closes a cabinet. She’s wearing his St. Seb’s sweatshirt, he realizes, the sleeves pushed up and bunching at her elbows.
“I was going to make you tea or hot cocoa or something, but I realized I don’t know where anything is,” she says. “Also like, I’ve only ever made Swiss Miss, and that fancy cocoa powder that your mom has in the pantry is anything but Swiss Miss. The entire label is in French.”
Ty can’t help but snort. “The Harbinger of Hope herself, intimidated by a box of cocoa.”
“It’s very French, okay?” Tandy says, but she’s smiling a little as she makes her way over to him. “Not all of us went to fancy private school.”
There are plenty of places to sit that aren’t right beside him, but that’s exactly where Tandy goes, scooting in close enough that her knee presses against his.
“You’re not sleeping,” she says, as bluntly as she always does.
“How can I? My superhero partner keeps trying to make me tea at one in the morning,” Ty volleys back, but it rings false to his own ears.
Tandy just raises an eyebrow at him, unmoved. Ty looks away first.
“Half the world disappeared, Tandy,” he says. “Is anybody sleeping these days?”
‘Are you?’ he wants to add, but doesn’t. He won’t make her feel guilty for not losing her only family. They don’t do that to each other.
“Is that it?” asks Tandy, her voice quieter than before. “That’s the only reason?”
Ty looks up at her, more sharply than he means to. She winces, shaking her head a little.
“Fuck, sorry,” she says. “You lost your parents, Ty, that’s reason enough to not be able to sleep. That’s- I’m not saying that that’s nothing.”
He doesn’t have the words to reassure her, so he just gently bumps his shoulder into hers. “I know.”
She doesn’t look as stricken after a moment, but she still looks sad. “We’re supposed to protect this city, and we couldn’t do anything to stop what happened,” she says, “but I don’t think that’s the reason I can’t sleep.”
Her eyebrows are furrowed, her gaze fixed determinedly on the cuffs of Ty’s sweatshirt. She doesn’t say anything else after that, just picks at the hem of the sweatshirt. It’s a habit of hers that he first saw in Texas, he thinks, then caught again in New Mexico and again in California. If he waits long enough, she’ll say whatever it is that she needs to say, but it always seems like it costs her something to do it.
He reaches his hand out to her instead of prodding, leaves his palm up and his fingers spread a little. It takes a moment for her to notice, but her hand is warm when it comes to rest in his, her fingers sure as they interlace with his own.
He thinks of the almost-year that they spent in each other’s pockets, crisscrossing the country and saving money by sharing rooms wherever they went. They’ve always been able to count on each other in the heat of battle, but it had felt different, on the nights when bad dreams kept Ty up, to look over and know that Tandy was sleeping a few feet away.
It’s possible, Ty realizes, that he’s not the only one who felt that way.
“It’s not the only reason,” he says, after a moment, answering her question from earlier. When Tandy looks up at him with wide eyes, he repeats himself. “It’s not the only reason I can’t sleep.”
“Okay,” is all Tandy says, but she leans in a little closer and uses her free hand to pull the blanket over both of them, so he thinks that she knows what he means.

In hindsight, wouldn't it make more sense for the Water Tribe to demonstrate misandry?
Tumblr media
The origins/rationale for the WT's sexism is nonexistant, a glaring issue for me in ATLA and the remake. However, seeing the trauma Kuruk went through, doesn't it make more sense that after his death and "failure" as an Avatar because of his spiritual corruption, male waterbenders were discouraged from waterbending seriously, reasoning that men lacked the spirituality/fortitude to master it without it destroying them?
Obviously this wouldn't really affect the Gaang, unless we had book 1 focus on more of the WT and rewriting Harun as a waterbender.

As much as I dislike the changes the showrunners constantly make from the book, one thing I like about the posters is that it shows exactly for whom each team is fighting, based on the colors they wear and the heraldry.
The Blacks represent House Targaryen (the true ruling House). The Greens represent House Hightower (the traitorous, usurping House).

genuinely one of the saddest parts of this new era of the internet is how hard it is to rick roll someone now. with people's attention spans shortening so much, they wouldn't even get through the first few bait seconds before clicking off the video. like i saw a comment that ended with "btw i made all of this up" and the replies kept treating it so seriously because none of them finished the entire 4 sentence comment. and We're no strangers to love You know the rules and so do I (do I) A full commitment's what I'm thinking of You wouldn't get this from any other guy I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling Gotta make you understand Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Dragon Sisters
🌕 🌖 🌗 🌘 🌑 🌒 🌓 🌔 🌕
YN finally goes out to the gardens in her colourful outfits. Wanting to spend the day with her dearest sister
🌕 🌖 🌗 🌘 🌑 🌒 🌓 🌔 🌕
Masterlist
It was always a treat to see the Targaryen princesses in their colourful and elaborate outfits. YN liked to dress up in her lovely outfits for her sister’s amusement. She had taken a respite from her colourful outfits since the death of her dear sister Daella, having worn black for a year. In the bright year of 84 AC, YN retired her black dresses for her colourful dresses once again. Her friend, Coren Thorne, had been a comfort to her and had finally convinced her to allow herself to feel happy once again.
So on a bright warm springtime morning, YN finished her letter to Coren and asked for her maid to bring her light purple dress, one that flowed ever so gently in the wind and embroidered with butterflies in the skirt. She gave her letter to her maid, asking that it be delivered to her friend, then finally left her room preparing for the gazes of the court.
She left quite the impression on the people in the keep who had grown used to seeing the mournful princess. YN paid them no mind, occasionally acknowledging the compliments that were given to her, but she intended to go to the gardens and find her mother or sister there. She knew her happy visage would make Saera happy. But before she was there she came across her dearest older sister Alyssa. She was in riding gear, which made YN smile at her sister’s antics. Even now, as heavily pregnant as she was, Alyssa would go flying. Alyssa smiled at her favorite sister, and opened her arms for YN to run into.
“My dear baby sister. It’s so good to see you in colours again.”  Alyssa laughed and kissed the top of YN’s silver hair.
“You should be taking care of yourself. What would the Maester say if he knew you were flying so late into your pregnancy.” YN teased and pulled back.
“He would be too scared to dare speak against me.” Alyssa laughed. “Where are you going my dearest?”
“I wanted to go into the garden and find Saera, or mother. I think seeing me in colours again would make them happy.”
Alyssa wrapped one arm around the girl’s shoulders. “Then let’s go and find them.”
YN smiled and rested her head against her sister’s shoulder. She always knew Alyssa would be there for her. When it wasn’t her and Saera, it was her and Alyssa. The two were so close. YN loved her older sister Alyssa so dearly, she had been her protector, her confidant, her dearest sibling. She knew that if she told Alyssa about her and Saera’s deep love for each other then Alyssa would understand.
But she didn’t tell her. Saera knew the world better and knew no one could be promised with the knowledge of their relationship. So she made YN swear to not speak of their stolen kisses and their daring romance.
So as the two made their way to the gardens. Speaking about their mornings and how YN was getting along with her friend and penpal, Coren. Alyssa spoke about her dear sons, and how she was certain the babe in her belly was another boy. YN was very interested in her nephews and always asked about them when she could.
When they finally found their way to the garden, Alyssa and YN looked around for their mother or sister. YN stopped by one of the flowers that bloomed recently and plucked it from its root and twirled it between her delicate fingers. She knew she would give it to her sister, Viserra. Alyssa steered YN away and then walked till they heard slightly raised and angry voices. When they came across the source, Alyssa rolled her eyes at the sight of Saera arguing with their mother.
“I can associate with whomever I want to mother! It’s not your business nor is it father’s what i do with my time!” Saera snapped and threw her hands in the air.
“I have every right to know who you spend time with and what you do! I am your mother!” Alysanne argued.
“You spend all your time with Gael and Viserra! Let them occupy your concern rather than me!” Saera turned away and stopped her angry expression when she saw her dearest love YN in colours again.
“Oh my dear one. How lovely you look.” Alysanne smiled and walked toward her daughters. Kissing Alyssa on the cheek then wrapping YN in a tight hug. “I’m so happy to see you so happy.”
“Thank you mother.” YN whispered and kissed her cheek.
“I must away. Viserra promised to show me her embroidery.” Alysanne excused herself. Alyssa, not wanting to speak to Saera, having not the best relationship with her, decided to leave with her mother and hugged YN for a moment before turning away.
YN walked toward Saera who had turned away from them and wrapped her arms around herself. She looked defeated and upset at everything, wanting nothing more than to be in YN’s arms.
“Saera?... Would you like this flower I plucked for you?” YN asked. What she was really saying was would she like to be held. Only her and Saera understood that.
“Oh YN.” Saera sobbed and held her close.”I hate them. I hate how they are always disappointed in me. I hate them, I hate them, I hate them.”
YN sighed and held her close then pulled away to look in her eyes. “I’m not disappointed in you. You could never disappoint me. I love you.”
Saera wiped her eyes and rested her forehead against YN’s. “I just wish they were more like you. I could be happy with only you. My dear one.”
They both smiled at each other, before Saera brought her lips to YN’s and gave her a loving kiss. YN knew she was still very upset, but when they were together they could pretend it was only the two of them in the world. YN could always understand Saera better than the rest of her family.
“Would you like to spend the day together?” YN asked as she placed the flower behind Saera’s ear. Twirling the locks of Saera’s silver hair.
“I would love to.”
So they ran to their secluded part of the garden that very few would go to. The spot that looked over the blackwater. Only going out to order the servants to bring them food and drink. For a day the two could pretend it was only the two of them in the whole world.

Look on the bright side:
Having a Live Action show just means we can all amalgamate all our favorite versions together, through the cartoon, shorts, comics, movies, we can combined the best and worst parts together and get rid of what we don’t like in each versions!

Some tips for using a few words to describe voices:
1. Tone Words: Use tone words to convey the emotional quality of a voice. For example, you can describe a voice as "melodic," "soothing," "sharp," "gentle," or "commanding" to give readers a sense of the tone.
2. Pitch and Range: Mention the pitch and range of the voice. Is it "deep," "high-pitched," "raspy," or "full-bodied"? This can provide insight into the character's age, gender, or emotional state.
3. Accent and Diction: Describe the character's accent or diction briefly to give a sense of their background or cultural influences. For instance, "British-accented," "Southern drawl," or "formal."
4. Volume: Mention the volume of the voice, whether it's "whispering," "booming," "murmuring," or "hushed."
5. Quality: Use terms like "velvet," "silken," "gravelly," "honeyed," or "crisp" to convey the texture or quality of the voice.
6. Rate of Speech: Describe how fast or slow the character speaks, using words like "rapid," "slurred," "measured," or "rambling."
7. Mood or Emotion: Indicate the mood or emotion carried by the voice. For example, a "quivering" voice may convey fear or anxiety, while a "warm" voice may express comfort and reassurance.
8. Resonance: Describe the resonance of the voice, such as "echoing," "nasal," "booming," or "tinny."
9. Timbre: Mention the timbre of the voice, using words like "rich," "thin," "clear," or "smoky."
10. Cadence: Highlight the rhythm or cadence of speech with descriptors like "staccato," "lilting," "rhythmic," or "halting."
11. Intonation: Convey the character's intonation by saying their voice is "sarcastic," "apologetic," "confident," or "questioning."
12. Vocal Characteristics: If applicable, mention unique vocal characteristics, like a "lisp," "stutter," "drawl," or "accented 'r'."

So about Netflix's the Last Airbender....
I am literally so confused you guys. You made me think I would HATE this show. And I LOVED it. Me. Known perfectionist and hater.
Katara was lovely. Yes, she started as a more soft spoken character than her cartoon version, but she was still passionate and hopeful throughout, just visibly unsure of herself. I think people were thrown off by this actress' natural way of expressing herself, which is Different from animated katara for sure, but not bad. Then she spends the whole season growing in Confidence and Fire. I Adored her fight with Paku, it really did feel like a payout of the whole season's development, and the bending kicked ass!
The Bending Kicked ass!!! The martial arts was fun and fast and creative and exciting! It looked SO good. That alone would be enough reason for me to watch and enjoy any show.
Zuko's actor was fantastic. He really captured the rage and confusion of this 16 year old banished prince. And there were so many Added moments between him and Iroh wich to me enriched their relationship. Like YES! This is why I'm watching, to see more of them, to see things done a little differently.
Iroh facing the consequences of his actions at Ba Sing Se!! That's what I'm here for!
Zuko's relationship with the men on his ship! That's what I'm here for!
The Extra layers we get to Ozai manipulating his children!
Also no one is talking about Admiral Zhao, who I had SO much fun with. I feel like they slightly fleshed out his character in a really dramatic way, really developing the hubris and frankly insane grasping ambition of someone who would kill the moon. I completely enjoyed this wilder, less controlled version of him, who comes up through the season from basically nothing and no one!
I am OBSESSED with King BUMI and his anger and disillusionment with the world! Like this was SO real. Living a hundred years of futile war would do that!!!! It is one of my favorite changes to the whole series. This new layer of emotion and character depth is what I'm here for!
Sokka was SO funny. He literally had me laughing out loud so often. That actor GETs Sokka, and GETS the way his humor is delivered. And is also able to tap into the more vulnerable side of him. People said he was "obsessed" with leadership. WHAT? That is a young person trying desperately to do his best and to try and find his place in the world, to figure what he has to offer. I loved his pride at hearing the Mechanist say that he would make a good engineer, and the sweetness of the moment that Yue's father says that he can be a hero without being a warrior. Sokka does so much growth in this series, in understanding himself and life.
And his chemistry with Suki was adorable!! I even like him and Yue (who was a totally unexpected sweetheart, despite her terrible wig)!! Like he has that same ability that Sokka has in the original to Connect with people.
Aang was great! He WAS fun loving and sweet and funny. I don't know what you guys wanted. Cartoons are always bigger and more exaggerated than live action. People's eyes swell up an, birds fly around their heads, and there are funny sound effects. That larger than life quality is the strength of animation! You have to look for different strength in live action. Like the SUBTLETIES of the acting choices. This little actor brought so much kindness, innocence, and strength to Aang.
And I FELT his frustration at being asked to do this at 12, his fresh hope anytime it looked like someone more experienced would be able to help him and no one did, and that's why he didn't learn waterbending this season, because he kept waiting for an freaking ADULT to show him the way, to help him carry this immense burden, but every adult he meets asks him for help instead, asks him to carry it himself, and then the finale hits and he realizes that there won't be any adults helping, he does have figure this out himself, and he makes the hard choice, takes on responsibility more than his years and offers himself to the ocean spirit, and he might have been lost entirely if not for Katara!
And that counter running theme to the show pays off: that he doesn't have to do it alone. He may not have more experienced guidance, because the adults have let him down again and again, but his friends will be with him, and they will figure it out together!
This is there throughout the series! Katara tells him this about learning waterbending, when he says he still wants to wait. Bumi tells him this in the palace at Omashu, and Aang sees the faith he has in his friends repaid!
I like these changes! And the show still found time for silly fun adventures and character building moments.
The show was never going to be the animated original. That is already a Masterpiece, and it frankly did NOT need to be adapted at all. I did not WANT a live action adaptation. I was adamantly convinced I would hate it. But the changes that they netflix show gave are what I Iike most about it. If I want to see Zuko say "you rise with the moon, I rise with the sun," I will go watch the animated original, because that version is perfect. And now, if i want to see Zuko say "Lu ten would have been proud to have you as a father," and see iroh pull him into a tight hug, I can watch this live action version, which is very good too. I'm going to disagree with most of the people on here and say that the Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender, DOES capture the heart of what we liked about the original show. It's spirit, fun, excitement, and characters. And the changes made are the reason we should be watching.
