итак, я посмотрела финальный финал финала "атаки титанов", и это мысли про него и саму историю

"маппа" экранизировала конец буквально по буквам и сделала это хорошо с технической стороны. монтажный ряд, показывающий, как колоссы идут по всему миру, их безразличные лица, перебивающие демонстрацию разрушений, вызывают слоновьи мурашки. прощание с разведкорпусом в дыму - крокодильи слёзы. ещё я рада, что эрену снесли голову быстро и не стали растягивать момент вставками-флэшбэками, слоумо или репликами микасы. да и саундтрек, как и следовало ожидать, на высоте. порадовало, что были слышны музыкальные мотивы из 1 сезона

а, ещё они сделали армина в той сцене на корабле через 3 года ещё более красивым, чем в манге, и за это им пол плюсика, но карандашом

вопросы же по сути происходящего уже не к "маппе", а к первоисточнику. и я ощущаю физическую необходимость поделиться этим ядом, состоящим в основном из хаотичных "ААААА" криков в формате около эссе с призраком анализа

основные мои претензии к финалу заключаются в сценах диалогов с эреном и "деревянной" истории в самом конце (та, что идёт параллельно титрам в экранизации). и ладно ещё первый диалог с микасой: он немного закольцовывает историю, дополняет и поясняет ту сцену в палаточном лагере, которую мы видели в предыдущих сериях. с натяжкой могу допустить, но диалог с армином...

он смущал меня ещё в манге, но я не могла понять почему. теперь же, спустя плюс-минус 2 года с прочтения я могу взглянуть на ситуацию со стороны, без того эмоционального вовлечения и, кажется, сейчас у меня есть ответ. в нём нет никакого смысла: в первую очередь сюжетного! этим диалогом автор просто пытается затереть косяки логики. в одной из последних реплик эрена "я круглый дурак <...> поэтому мне не хватило мозгов найти выход получше" мне слышится признание пополам с самоиронией

во-вторых, эрен - эгоцентричная сучка, он оправдал перед собой собственные действия и ищет того же самого у армина

то, что армин в какой-то степени дал ему желаемое - "сомнительно, но окэй". к этому ребёнку я снисходительнее, ибо у него есть совесть, мозги, птср, колоссальный комплекс выжившего и сжигающее заживо чувство вины, а эрен меня бесил с 1 же сезона, и ему я готова прощать мизерное количество проёбов

масла в огонь подливает оправдание того, почему он всё же срежиссировал события так, какими они были показаны ему в воспоминаниях о будущем: "я много раз пытался... давно перестал считать попытки. но какой бы вариант я не отыскивал, будущее не менялось ни на йоту"

иди нахер, пожалуйста 💐💕

обоснуй уровня арки 10-летнего будущего в "реборне", почти слово в слово ирие шоичи. вы понимаете уровень абсурда, да? где "атака титанов", а где "реборн"

спустя столько лет, я всё ещё не могу разложить свои ощущения от персонажа эрена в финале менее сумбурно и более доходчиво, но могу указать на пример, где это сделано внятно: 9 глава одного замечательного фф Carry Me Home от valleykey.

это сатосугу из магабитвы. не спрашивайте, как я на него вышла и почему прочитала, терпеть не могу магабитву для ленивых/не владебщих англом, но заинтересованных есть перевод на фик*уке

"я хотел сравнять всё с землёй. я хотел увидеть этот вид. сам до конца не понимаю, но я всей душой желал этого" - звучит знакомо, не так ли? "весь мир насилья мы разрушим до основанья, а затем мы наш, мы новый мир построим, кто был ничем, тот станет всем." зная историю страны, чьим гимном был интернационал, я нахожу совпадение интертекста ироничным

в целом же, если бы разговора армина с эреном не было, на мой взгляд, история бы только выиграла. но нет, мы же не могли позволить эрену закрепиться в образе устроителя геноцида и не попытаться загазлайтить нас ещё раз, будто между ним и микасой настоящая грандиозная любофф. и это плавно подводит ко второй моей проблеме с финалом аот

"деревянная" история не нужна ни для чего, кроме как очередной демонстрации прописной истины о цикличности - одна из мыслей, которой посвящено чуть ли не половина сериала. этот эпилог претендует на размах, больший, чем сам сюжет "атаки" - как небесный свод на плечах Атланта. но это не греческий титан, а японский кёдзин - у него нет разума (ха!) и он явно не выдерживает веса, взваленного на себя

"деревянная" история попахивает обобщением, типичным для чего-то около притчевого, поэтому у меня она вызывает ощущение заезженной морали и сопутствующую ей тошноту

"атака титанов" как медиа

есть кое-что, что беспокоит меня в "атаке титанов" как в медиа - лицемерие. автор строит "западный" мир с прямыми аллюзиями на всё то очевидное европейское дерьмо 1940-х гг. на таком толстенном японском основании, при этом игнорируя всё то, что япония творила в то же время

ни в коем случае я не обвиняю автора, он - продукт своего времени. и помимо культурно-исторического контекста, также в выборе "западного" сеттинга мне видится ещё и некоторый коммерческий мотив: такой мир более привлекателен для читателей и издателей. если бы автор выпустил историю в восточном антураже (с отсылками, например, не только не японию, но и на историю всей азии), "атака" никогда бы не приобрела ту популярность, которую приобрела. было ли это тоже сделано намеренно или нет, не имеет уже значения, финальный результат у нас на руках, и он неизменен

имхо, все сюжетные проблемы в атаке определяются именно этим. несоответствие "архитектур" и есть краеугольная слабость, японское основание не выдерживает и трескается под весом "европейских" стен (тройное ха!). я чувствую столько японского в аот, особенно это надоедливое экзистенциальное нытьё зика про инстинкты (у людей нет инстинктов!!) и идею, что лучше не рождаться, а также поведение и образы мыслей персонажей (особенно стратегов: отдают мегамозгами из классических восточных романов, которые наперёд продумывают 10 000 ходов. яркий аналогичный пример из популярной культуры - ягами лайт и эл (я не говорю, что таких персонажей в "западном" сеттинге не бывает, я говорю о том, что они, как будто, единственный архтетип умного человека в "атаке")). и это всё пытается рядиться в "европейские" костюмы - настоящий маскарад. только смеяться мне на нём не хочется (как будто в аот вообще много моментов для смеха)

из противоположных примеров, подобное же мне видится в "аватаре: легенда об аанге", но в гораздо меньшей степени. здесь ощущается большое уважение к восточным культурам и философии, и для поп-медиа, выпускавшегося, к тому же, с ориентацией для детей (я знаю, что это не совсем верно, но камон, "аватар" выходил на никелодионе, это вполне обоснованное высказывание), сериал держится очень достойно. я его и полюбила именно за совмещение восточного и западного. но это не означает, что там тоже нет таких проблем с диссонансом оболочки и содержания. они просто не так ярко бросаются в глаза, как в "атаке", да и не должны, учитывая, насколько разный в них тон всё то, что я воспринимаю в "аватаре" как подобное несоответствие (в первую очередь, в глаза бросается очень свободная иерархия и общественные отношения), как раз "корректируется" в "углях", о которых я уже писала ранее - и это ещё одна причина, почему фф мне так нравится

несмотря на всё выше обозначенное, аот - не плохая история. не без дыр, куда уж без них. их хорошо маскируют технические моменты: то, как история рассказана, все те клифхэнгеры, ловкое тасование детектива с экшеном и драмой, а также внимание к деталям. автор умеет создавать атмосферу. благодаря всему этому история захватывает и, кажется, не провисает нигде. но это не так

возвращаясь, собственно, к финалу "атаки титанов"

довольна ли я финалом? если честно, мне он безразличен, как бы жестоко это не прозвучало. я бесконечно сочувствую некоторым персонажам, но мне абсолютно плевать на мир, в котором они остались. ибо он так и не был представлен, кроме конфликта Марли-Парадиз(-и немного мир, что против элдийцев в целом), ну а диалог армина и эрена вместе с "деревянной" историей вырвали последние ростки интереса к этой вселенной - аналогично тому, как подкаст в финале "квори" заруинил для меня всю игру

послевкусие лицемерия же, о котором я разлилась мыслью по древу на пол поста, отбивает всё желание возвращаться к "атаке титанов" в принципе. она закончилась - и на этом всё

I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?

In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".

Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.

This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.

Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.

The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.

There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.

This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.

As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.

The way Luz's thank you drawing got rejected by the person it was for when she thought she finally found someone who wouldn't make fun of her for her eccentric behavior, that she is worthless..and then the drawing does get recognized, that it's beautiful and why would it get thrown away. Something that I've noticed ever since the Smiling Critters were introduced is that they can so easily be paired off into complementary duos, ones that are specifically designed to teach children fundamental lessons about life and self-care from two different angles. It's really interesting to me.

Like obviously you have Dogday and Catnap, with their sun/moon, dog/cat dichotomy, that stress how important it is to have fun and get things done during the day, but also that it's important to wind down, relax, and get a good night's sleep.

Bubba Bubbaphant and Craftycorn were introduced as a duo in the Smiling Critter show's intro, and their dichotomy is quite obvious. They are basically the right and left sides of the brain personified. Bubba is the left side of the brain, logical, analytical, focused on math and science. Craftycorn is the right side of the brain, creative and imaginative, focused on the arts and self-expression. They represent learning and academia in all its forms, the different ways people engage with and understand the world.

Hoppy Hopscotch and Kickin' Chicken form the sportsmanship duo. They are both portrayed as enjoying sports and the outdoors, but in different ways that highlight the different ways sports can be played and enjoyed and also what it entails to be successful at them. Hoppy Hopscotch may be loud and impatient, but she is also a team player, shown in her willingness to slow down her fast pace to make sure none of her friends are left behind. Kickin' Chicken, on the other hand, is laid-back, relaxed, and chill, the described "cool kid" of the group, but he's also described as having a ton of perseverance, more of a "slow and steady wins the race" type of person.

This leaves Bobby Bearhug and Picky Piggy as the last pair. Fittingly, these two are all about how to meet the fundamental needs of yourself and others. Bobby teaches children how to nourish themselves emotionally through showing and receiving care from others, while Picky teaches them how good food is important to nourish the body and soul. Depriving oneself of either of these things only makes oneself and therefore everyone around one miserable, because those fundamental needs are no longer being met.

Like fr, this is some pretty genius marketing right here. You have enough characters that every kid will have their favorite, but not so many that any would get lost in the shuffle, because the lessons each one of them would teach would be integral to the group as a whole. It really makes me that much sadder we saw basically nothing of the Smiling Critters during the game itself, because Mob Games struck gold with this concept, only to ultimately do nothing with it. :/

But I guess that's what fandom is for, eh?
