#I’ve been thinking about something a friend said in regards to the lyrics for ‘Angry’#because I was having a hard time putting my finger on why I disliked it other than the drumming#the ‘We haven't made love and I wanna know why’ bit played#and she said ‘that’s what you get for dating a 36 year old when you’re 80’#(she also pointed out that the vocals don’t even sound like mick. which is true. the song is grossly over produced)#my point isn’t so much this specific thing with mick#as that he’s been writing songs along these lines for 60 years#and at this point it feels like we’re getting 100% misogyny and 5% creativity#it’s all bitching and moaning about being wronged by a woman and denied access to her body#I don’t really care if they’re ‘problematic’ in their lyrics to some extent or another. they’re old rockstars#but there’s nothing special or creative or even metaphorical going on#it’s like a lazy version of ‘bitch’#I’m kind of concerned if this is the pre-released single. that it’s the best they’ve got. because it isn’t very good#((also heard mick mention in an interview not long ago that Tattoo You is one of his favorite albums. which makes the decision to trash#everything recorded before 2019 especially dumb. because that album was cobbled together from old songs and recordings. many made way before#1981. they’re almost acting like this is a change on the level of darryl. which is blatantly dumb. there isn’t 30 years left. in terms of#time or creative output))

Esteban seeing yn as a nepo baby but being besties with mick is a bit hypocritical don't you think?
I can see lance and her being friends because they're definitely faced similar things during their childhood i.e calling as nepo baby by others.
I also think lewis and her wouldn't get along and thats purely because of how fiercely she's defending max. Like I'm thinking their crashes and even if they were getting along, after that and her comments about them there would be a fallout.
I want mick and yn to make up in their own terms but i kinda agree with yn said. There's nepotism in f1 world and f1 isn't just talent. Connections are a big part of it and lance, mick even max and other drivers i cant remember right now HAS CONNECTIONS. But that doesnt also mean they're untalented but there was a huge advantage to them being son of something important or relatively known and we can't disregard this fact.
Mick is talented (along with lance but he's not the important character right now) and calling him surname merchant while isnt fair but its also right... His dad is mf michael schumacher... And also there's more expectations for him but even in real life i dont see anything much from him but then again he's young and haas definitely fucked him up.
It is definitely hypocritical, but I think her close connection to Max is probably the tipping point for him. Esteban is also very good friends with Lance. But I think there’s a bit of a one sided rivalry between Esteban and Max that Y/N falls foul of in Esteban’s head. Also, Esteban has watched Y/N go from being everywhere with Mick to being everywhere with Max and I think he has somewhat taken that personally on Mick’s behalf, thinks that Y/N swapped Mick for Max because of Max’s success. Which again is because of his own resentment of Max’s success. But I think Esteban sees her very much as “had it all handed to her” even more than any of the other drivers because she didn’t even have to drive for it, she just comments.
Her and Lance have known each other a long time, and she is friends with his sister, so they’re cool.
I think there’s nothing Mick could ever have done or achieved that wouldn’t have had him called a surname merchant. His dad was one of the greatest there ever was and that definitely largely worked to his disadvantage in F1. While Max got all the connections but 1% of the pressure because his dad was a nobody in F1, Mick had the weight of his last name on his shoulders the second he appeared on a go kart track. Max made Verstappen a brand, Mick came in already carrying a brand (those two are such good foils of each other). But the Schumacher name definitely had a part in getting him where he is, Guenther even said it in DTS, that German sponsors want to be in business with the Schumacher name. I don’t think he’d have had that Haas seat if it weren’t for his last name (he would have eventually got a seat somewhere else but Haas specifically picked him up for the sponsors imo).
I think in relation to Y/N specifically, he’s just hurt these comments are coming from someone he considers family. Someone who has supported him his whole career, who now seemingly turns around and thinks he’s rubbish. He’s like “you always told me I was going to be great, cheered me on, but now you’re just listing everything I do wrong to the world”. And I think he’s partly right. I think what Y/N said when she was trying to be Mick’s cheerleader was different to her real/professional opinion and she wasn’t fully honest and Mick wasn’t fully prepared to hear those things. Then on the other side Y/N is thinking “what I said isn’t nearly as harsh as what I’m thinking, I went out of my way to take it easy on him, and he’s still mad”, because she knows she has gone harder on Max and he’s just brushed it off. It’s very complicated. Also consider that a lot of those quotes would have been massively taken out of context.
Re her and Lewis, definitely were not in a good place in 2021 (we will see more of that eventually) but now I see him being a bit more like “okay she’s the Max Defence League let her do her”, and he doesn’t pay much attention to her, nor her to him.

Can i get a drabble of mick x fem!reader who is also a driver for Ferrari and she is sad because she thinks that she is not enough for the team and mick comforts her and is very fluff <3 Tysm
pairing: mick schumacher x driver!reader
a/n: just because im heartbroken for mick, this is for my mick girlies out there :(
⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⊰⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•⋅∙∘☽༓☾∘∙•⋅⋅⋅•⋅⋅⊰⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•⋅⋅•⋅
Another screw up. Finishing below P10 for qualifying wasn’t enough. It will never be enough because you’re in Ferrari. This isn’t the reputation the team has upheld throughout the years.
Sighing as you pulled yourself out of the car, you kept your helmet on as you headed back to your driver’s room, not wanting any attention towards you.
“Fucking stupid mistake,” You grumbled as you closed the door, pulling the helmet off and setting it on the couch, “There shouldn’t be any room for mistakes, Y/N.”
You stared at the wall for a few minutes, leaning back against the chair, “Do I even deserve to be here…”
Suddenly, a knock disrupted your thoughts and you frowned. You specifically told your manager that you wanted to be alone, “Who is it?”
“It’s Mick.”
“Oh,” You mumbled as you stood up, opening the door for him with your shoulders slumped, “Come in.”
“Hey,” Mick frowned as he saw the state that you are in, stepping inside the room before closing the door behind him, “I just…I wanted to check up on you.”
“You didn’t have to,” You shrugged as you sat back down on the couch, kicking your feet up on the stool nearby, “I’m fine.”
“You don’t sound like it,” Mick replied as he pulled a chair to sit in front of you, crossing his arms, “You know you can always be honest with me, right?”
“I know…” You rubbed a hand down your face and sighed, “I don’t want to burden you with whatever stupid thing I’ve got going.”
He smiled sympathetically, reaching over to hold your hand and squeezing it, “Then I’ll help you carry it. What’s up?”
“It just fucking sucks. I hate the feeling of not being enough for this,” You exhaled deeply as you squeezed his hand tightly, tears threatening to spill, “I don’t think I’m cut out for this. I’m dragging my team down.”
“Y/N, what’s gotten you feeling this way?” He whispered softly, afraid that loudness might push you to your breaking point, “How could you say that to yourself?”
“I’ve been messing up so many times, Mick,” You replied, your bottom lip quivering and voice shaking from that familiar feeling coming up your throat, “Look at my qualifying! Below P10 for fuck’s sake, I could’ve done so much better.”
“Hey, look at me,” Mick smiled softly as he tilted your chin up to meet your eyes, his other hand letting go of yours to bring it up to caress your cheek, “You fought so hard to bring yourself to where you are now. You weren’t given this seat if you weren’t worthy – you need to believe in yourself as much as I believe in you.”
You sniffled as tears started to cascade your cheeks, “You’re just saying that.”
“I’m not, trust me. I would never lie to you,” He whispered, thumbs wiping away your tears, “I want you to keep fighting. Prove them wrong, prove your thoughts wrong. I’ll be with you every step of the way.”
“Okay. I’ll…try my best,” You whispered back as you brought up your pinky, waiting for his next action, “But, you promise? Every step of the way?”
Mick nodded as he wrapped his pinky around yours, bringing it in to kiss it softly – sealing the deal, “Every step of the way, angel.”
Pulling him in for a hug, you couldn’t help but break down in his arms. Mick was your safe space, as you were his. He knew that no words may help you ease your disappointments at times, and all he can do is just to be here for you, making sure that he holds together your pieces to refrain it from falling apart.
“I’ve got you,” Mick whispered as he kissed the side of your head, rubbing your back, “I’m here.”
I’ve got you. I’m here. That was all you needed to ground yourself back in this world – enough to get you fighting for another day in the world of the sport you loved.
bonus scene!
“Red Bull and Mercedes has attacked her in every chance that they could get, she has fought hard and well! For the first time in her career, Y/N Y/L/N, Ferrari’s newest blazing stallion, has taken the victory home for the Italian Grand Prix!”
You couldn’t believe it. You fought your way up to the top from the back of the grid and you got your maiden win with Ferrari.
Bringing you car up to park it alongside Alpine’s Esteban Ocon and Mercedes’ George Russell, you pulled yourself out to stand on top of your car, screaming in victory.
Mick hurriedly drove up his car back to the garage to see you get up on the podium, a proud smile on his face. You did it, you proved them wrong.
As the trophy was handed over to you, you rose it up high with the biggest smile on your face as Esteban and George sprayed you with champagne.
You genuinely laughed as you basked in the glory of your first ever victory, standing still for a moment to meet a familiar pair of blue eyes in the crowd, smiling at you.
You weren’t sure if he’d understand, but you gave it your best shot to mouth the words of ‘Danke. Ich liebe dich.’ to Mick. Thank you. I love you.
Mick chuckled softly as he looked down, hiding the blush spreading across his cheeks. You were brave in fighting for the trophy today, and maybe it’s time that he steps up to ask you out too.

It’s time for my favourite Winchester!!
I headcanon Sam as pansexual but he could be bisexual too it depends on what your headcanons are.
Sam has a lot of love to give and I think he is attracted to and appreciates every gender.
I also think that he definitely in his younger years felt very non conforming about his gender and even with their limited budget liked to dress differently to others. As he got older he found outfits he found more comfortable but on hunts will still wear practical clothing. As a kid the different clothes were usually worn when his dad and brother were out because he didn’t know how they’d react. In later years I think they would’ve grown to understand him more but in the era they were in as kids they wouldn’t understand it much.
Sam didn’t really feel comfortable expressing this or coming out as a kid because he already felt like the odd one out in his family and he wasn’t sure how his family would react.
Sam is the type to fall for someone if they’re a good person. He has a type but usually he loves who he loves and doesn’t mind how they look.
I think that as a kid he had a crush on one of the boys at one of his schools. The boy was a little older and was actually really kind to him. The boy didn’t feel the same but Sam also never revealed his crush because he didn’t feel comfortable revealing it. His crush caused him to act a little nervous around him which unfortunately Dean noticed and made him think that the boy had done something to upset him which angered the overprotective brother. Sam had to reassure him that he was fine before Dean could overreact and luckily managed to get him to back away. The boy had been tall and had curly blonde hair and greenish blue eyes which is something he layered realised was kind of a type of his when he met Jess.
He definitely started seeing more men, women and different people once he started college. He had a little thing with Brady who he had really liked before they broke things off and he got with Jess and things got serious with them. He was really upset when he found out the truth about Brady.
I think while he was with Jess they’d often have nice nights at home and one time she convinced him to let her do his makeup and after it was done he actually really enjoyed how it felt and how he looked. He doesn’t wear it much later on because in the hunting business it’s not really ideal and he isn’t sure how people would react but sometimes he likes to put some one because it makes him feel nice and a little pretty and it also makes him feel closer to Jess when he misses her.
He definitely felt attracted to Meg and both versions of Ruby even though those relationships weren’t good for him. He’d also fallen for Sarah and Maddison. I think he probably also had a crush on Castiel at some point (I used to be a big Sastiel fan lol now I still like it just not as much) and also definitely had feelings for Mick because they definitely had a connection and should’ve had longer. He also kind of flirted with a male barman in the early seasons I’m pretty sure or the guy flirted with him and he didn’t mind.
So I guess his type are either people with blonde hair and blue or green eyes or people dark hair with blue or dark eyes. I think those are his specific types and I don’t blame him the first one is my type too.
I think that he felt a connection and definitely flirted a little with Max Banes when he first met him. I would’ve love to see them bond because Max and his sister defended Sam which was cute and he was definitely flirting with Sam and Sam didn’t really seem to mind.
Sam is always welcoming and comforting to other queer people and let’s them know if they ever want to talk he will listen he might not know the answers but he wants them to know they can be heard in a way he wasn’t. Jack sometimes talks with him about sexuality and gender once Jack starts figuring things out because he feels like his dad would understand and he’s closer to Sam than anyone.
I think that Sam came out to Dean after they reconnected and because Dean wasn’t the most progressive back in the beginning (understatement lmao) he made a few jokes about it but once he realised that he was making Sam uncomfortable he stopped. He’ll still slip up occasionally but he also tries to make a few harmful jokes that aren’t going to hurt him. Sam appreciates him trying but will also pull him up on it if he thinks he’s going to far. Now he’s older he’s more willing to stand up for himself even from the person who loves him most.
I definitely think he told Bobby first and even though Bobby didn’t really understand a lot of it he really supported his surrogate son.
Sam often felt sad and a little regret over never telling his dad before John died. He had really felt like they could’ve become closer before John died because even though they fought a lot they’d started seeing things the same way and were working on it. when he’s reunited with John for a short while in the Lebanon episode he’s able to get some closure and finally get an apology from John and also got to apologise for things he felt he needed to. He also even though he was slightly scared came out to John. I think that John wouldn’t really understand it much but I think that despite the mistakes John made with his sons he really loves them and he would’ve been honest and told Sam he doesn’t exactly understand what most of it means but he’s always going to love and support Sam whoever he dates. Sam is so relieved that he hugs his dad and cries a little. If John and Sam would’ve had more time together to work on their relationship it would’ve been great.

hiiii its that time again my friends (i remembered i have free will and can infodump about my fic series anytime i want) and with malus almost over and my favorite chapter published, i kind of want to talk about it...
i got/get a lot of wonderful comments (because my readers brains are Massive and Epic) about how medic and sniper frequently find romance in the mundane, which is something that i think both of them would savor/cherish, sepecially since their lives are definitely... not so mundane! but i specifically want to talk about Being Perceived and the Giving of the Names...
so let's jump in! Big Post so under a cut it goes! and you can read my fic series here, though this post will have emphasis on this chapter specifically. :-)
“Aheh, well, I know I should know all of your names, but I’ll be the first to confess that I do not. Isn’t that funny?” He giggled, narrowing his eyes as he flipped his forelock into place on his forehead. “I suppose I could have found out, but I never cared to. It’s never really been important to me.” He shrugged, placing his palms flat on his own thighs and bracing himself. “It’s important to me now, though. Yours, anyway.” He smiled, clearly eager. “If you want me to know it, of course. And I’ll tell you mine!” Medic offered, lacing his fingers together and resting them over his own belly pleasantly.
Obviously my fics are more of a like. "in depth"(?) take on medic and sniper's characters but it's also important to me that i don't lose the like. Funny Silliness of the canon material in the tf2niverse... because i really don't think the franchise would be Any Good without its Silliness + offbeat humor! medic's character especially imo. so i think the idea of medic literally not caring enough to know anyone else's names is very On Brand for him since it's like "hoo! oh well! they are just friendly experiments!" he knows heavy's because heavy introduced himself to medic with it/they're best friends but other than that, he doesn't know anyone's and doesn't care to. i can see medic just skipping over "all that nonsense" on all of their charts and jumping straight into the Clinical Notes because that's what's most fun for him! he's nice to his teammates and considers them his friends, but not people he's close to. so in that vein when medic tells sniper "i'd like to know your name" it's because medic is telling sniper (in his own way... hoo hoo!) that he wants to know him as more than just an experiment. that at this point he's no longer just some uberheart transplant to him, but a friend. someone he cherishes and enjoys... so that's a pretty big deal for someone like medic, even if people's first reaction would be like "wtf how can he not know their/our names!!" but in medic's mind it makes perfect sense that he doesn't! because it's funny! and also he doesn't care <3 much love! SKDFKSFD
“Hello… Ludwig,” Sniper smiled, his voice faltering a bit on the tail-end of saying the other mercenary’s name. Pretty name for a pretty thing like him . “My name’s…” Wait. What should he say? Mick? Michael? Hell, nobody called him Michael. Then again, nobody’d called him Mick since his parents died. “… Michael. Well, most people used to call me Mick,” he cleared his throat, “Mundy.” He finished, watching Ludwig’s expression soften.
and so then we get into the act of Introducing Yourself... the power of a Chosen Name.... the Romance of being known as Who You Are to someone you care about... and names can be something that are so sacred... whether its your birth name or a name you chose for yourself, its a name you Choose to go by, it's who you are! sniper has just gone by his alias for so long that he'd probably just habitually give it out regardless, and that's fine enough because he's a professional and it works. but he also sees this as a big deal and so he wants to give medic a piece of himself that most of the rest of the team (demo knows sniper's name but calls him mickey but that's it) isn't privy to. he's not sure what he wants medic to call him because all of those names are so Different. they represent versions of himself from different times in his life... and he wants what medic calls him to be perfect. medic watches as sniper Clearly starts overthinking it and just kind of gives up and tells him "well most people just calls me this,". he'll call me mick like anyone and everyone else-
“I care little for what others do. What would you like me to call you?” Medic asked.
and of course in Typical Medic Fashion he doesn't care what most people do, he wants to do something that's unique! medic's relationship to sniper doesn't involve anyone else's perception of either of them, so why should he care what others call him? What does HE want to be called?
“Michel it is. It’s nice to meet you, Michel.” Medic smiled, his cheeks pushing into his eyes in a genuine smile. Sniper’s heart could have stopped in his chest as his plain name, one that he never particularly cared about one way or another, was reborn in the doctor’s voice. Michel, Michel, Michel. It sounded so different, like it was a whole new name. A name he loved, if it meant hearing Medic say it.
naturally, medic picks it perfectly. something unique to him something that reminds sniper of medic because nobody ever calls him michael... until medic. and when you choose to add significance to Little Things like this... it can't help but be romantic.. sniper obviously loves it when medic calls on him no matter what, but michel is a name that not only sniper gave medic [permission to call him], but that medic gave sniper [he doesn't want it to just be Whatever Anyone Calls him, he wants it to have Meaning to both of them]. michel is the sniper that medic has come to know and fall in love with.
“Michel… It suits you. Invisible, humble protector…” he trailed off, his eyes narrowing playfully as his voice lowered a bit in pitch. “Enemy of the devil,” he crooned, lilting his voice as though to sound mock-scary, though his smile was still one of playful glee.
and of course medic flirts about it because that's who he is and he does think it suits sniper: someone who does their job and doesn't need praise or fanfare for it, someone whose sharp gaze sees all... i think it appeals to sniper's obsession with professionalism in that sense. i Obviously don't think either of them are christian (LOL). but i think medic is flirtatiously calling sniper a guardian angel (and just isn't being So Literal about it) and that's what you should glean from it.
“Dunno about that. Like you just fine,” he’d said before he could stop himself, watching as Ludwig’s eyes got wide for a moment as a large, toothy smile spread over his mouth, nearly ear to ear. Sniper felt the back of his neck get hot under such an intense gaze. His teeth were bared with - for lack of a better descriptor (or perhaps simply the most fitting one) - devilish glee, but his eyes were intense, impish and playful.
so medic giveth a nickname and so sniper does too... 😏 medic is devilish: playful, tempting, and so so so persuasive! plus given medic's ability to literally outsmart the devil, it's not said in an insulting way. sniper loves medic's devilishness and has even come to adore him when he's being Completely Bonkers SillyMorbid! and medic of course sees that sniper means it as a compliment. he knows sniper, despite being professional, can appreciate a good kill, some fun morbidity, and wants to see more of that side of sniper. calling him a devil only makes it more obvious that medic is having the exact effect on sniper that he wants! hoo! sniper swears that he's no good at flirting, but he seems to know how to wind medic up pretty effortlessly!
Ludwig’s large chest puffed out slowly in a smooth, silent inhale, the bulk of his body taking on an air about it that the bushman’s sharp eyes were drawn to. Chest, stomach, hips, thighs… hips, stomach, chest, eyes… And, effortlessly, he was consumed by Medic’s gaze again, as though it had been politely waiting to ensnare him.
good job mick you went and turned him on! well that's just fine with dovey! medic isn't shy about showing sniper how he affects him, but that doesn't always have to involve being Sexually Abrasive. he makes a show of letting his breath get taken away so that sniper can physically see that it was sniper who took it away. not everything has to be under Cloak and Shadow; medic has the confidence that sniper doesn't to say look! you're turning me on! i like how you look at me and talk to me! and he lets sniper look at him like he is, watches sniper study him and silently tell him "it's okay to look. i want you to look. this is for you." something that someone who is really sexually/emotionally repressed would appreciate (permission to Gander free of judgement). a huge element of how i ship medic and sniper is that they're BOTH figuring stuff out about each other but also themselves, and in their own Very Different ways. they're (doing their best to) afford one another patience to explore what they're learning and how it affects them. i think romance is defined by the people in the relationship and they're figuring out what that means to them!
GOD IDK IF ANYONE IS GOING TO EVEN READ THIS BUT IF YOU DID THEN THANK YOU I LVOE YOU!!!! i just had to get it out of my system lskdmfkdm... it is a Curse when i am MegaFixated on talking about my own creation.,., sighs.., 😔

Today’s compilation:
British Rock Legends 1989 Blues-Rock / Electric Blues / Boogie Woogie
First off, the music on here is really phenomenal, and even though it has Eric Clapton (a lot of Eric Clapton), Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, and John Mayall on it, you've actually very likely never heard any of these songs before. As a matter of fact, I don't think any of these tunes appear on any of these artists' original studio albums, so for the sole reason of having great, pretty unknown tunes by legitimate music legends, these are songs that are definitely worth listening to.
But despite that salesmanship, I really need to take this thing down a few pegs, because, for one, calling it British Rock Legends doesn't get at what this comp really is; it's not just rock; more specifically, it's almost entirely blues-rock. And there's been far more strains of British rock than just the blues type. Pair Records should've made their title more specific to reflect what's exactly on this CD.
But that's how Pair Records operated. They were a budget label whose selling point was to pack two LPs or two cassettes worth of music onto one CD. And the titling of this comp isn't its only deception; if you're wondering how a budget label got its hands on a bunch of great, lightly treaded tunes from über-talented British rockers, it's because all of these tracks have been released before on a different series of compilations. See, British Rock Legends is an example of what I like to call a re-compilation: a compilation that quite obviously sources its material from one or a few other compilations. It's a cheap and lazy way to repackage and sell music that lacks an original concept.
Every song on this 1989 compilation can be found in a different series of compilations that was released in 1968/1969 by Rolling Stones' manager Andrew Loog Oldham's blues and R&B label, Immediate Records, called Anthology of British Blues or Blues Anytime. 30-plus years ago, this fact wasn't nearly as easy to uncover, but with the internet now at our fingertips, we can see just how lazy Pair was being in the making of this particular comp.
But like I said, the music on here is fantastic. And I really hate to say it, because he's such a dimwittedly racist, bigoted asshole, but Eric Clapton is just so astonishingly good at making soul-piercing blues. There's a bunch of instrumental electric blues tracks on here in which he teams up with Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin (and Mick Jagger is on harmonica on some of those too!), and they're really amazing. And there's also a Rod Stewart tune towards the end in which he sports his famed raspiness, but he does it in such a soulful way, and I don't think I've ever heard him sing quite like that before. It's really remarkable!
So, in conclusion, fuck you Pair Records! I see right through your bullshit! But also, these tunes you repackaged are really spectacular! Anyone who doesn't stan any of these artists or hasn't heard the Anthology of British Blues / Blues Anytime series probably doesn't know any of these songs and should really check them out!
Highlights:

Back Home | Lip Gallagher
Tumblr media
You slipped your coat on, rolling your eyes as the dumbass boy from your Calculus class called after you. “(Y/N), come on. It was a joke! I didn’t mean it— come back.” You laughed bitterly at this, trying to keep your tears in.
“Fuck off, Marcus.” You muttered, flipping him off before pushing the doors open.
So much for a fun night.
“Fuck!” You hissed as you stood in the cold, your body shivering and already covered in goosebumps. You were four blocks from your house, and now that you had walked out, you didn’t have a ride. Your only option was to walk so you got to steppin’.
Tears stung your eyes as your brain became overwhelmed and scattered with thoughts. If you had gone with Lip like the two of you had originally planned months before, it would of never went like this. You wouldn’t be walking home with mascara running down your face in the middle of winter during prom, that would of never been an option with Lip.
You sniffled and wiped at your face, unable to see clearly at this point. As you stood at the curb waiting for the car to pass, you heard footsteps behind you. You turned, seeing a tall and thin shadow jogging in your direction. Seeing the car turn, you carefully walked across the street, starting to get closer and closer to your house. You noticed the footsteps behind you were continuing, making you turn around once again.
Your breath hitched in your throat when you made eye contact with the jogger in the dark, your heart hammering in your chest. “(Y/N)?” The redhead spoke softly, jogging to catch up with you. He stopped beside you, smiling and looking at you. “I haven’t seen you in a while but you look great! What are you doing out here?”
You smiled, Ian’s words making your heart flutter. You were the closest to Ian— the first Gallagher you had actually met. It was him who introduced you to Lip and he was more than supportive of your relationship, but he was also the most disappointed when you ended things.
“Just walking home,” You spoke quickly, not wanting to talk about the topic too much if at all. “I missed you. You look great too, look at you— you’re filling out and shit!” You motioned towards his biceps that were covered tightly by his t-shirt. He was soaked with sweat and was panting, and you couldn’t help but smile when he tried to suppress it as he spoke to you.
“Thanks. Training— got to stay in tact, you know?” Ian chuckled, making you nod. You laughed as well, shivering slightly when a breeze suddenly brushed over the two of you. Ian didn’t move, appreciating the coldness but when he looked at you more carefully he noticed you were wearing a dress with a thin coat.
Not to mention the blackness on your cheeks and undereyes. You had been crying.
“Hey,” Ian spoke softly, making you look up at him with soft eyes. “I was making my way home, need a shower and should probably study a little while I’m at it. Do you want to come over? I know it’s been a little bit, but..”
You gulped, your heart hammering in your chest. “As much as I’d like that, Ian, I—”
“He won’t be home tonight.” Ian interrupted, his voice quiet and gentle. You sighed and bit your lip, thinking over it for a moment before nodding. The two of you continued the walk together in silence until he spoke up. “What’s the dress for?”
“Prom.” You sighed heavily, making Ian snort.
“You went to prom? Since when do you go to shit like that? And since when do you wear anything besides jeans?” Ian laughed, making you roll your eyes.
“Marcus Greene asked me to go with him and I figured maybe it would.. I don’t know— just been getting myself out there more, I guess.” You answered vaguely. Ian nodded.
“Isn’t prom supposed to end at like, 11?” He asked. You nodded softly, making him furrow his eyebrows and lift his left hand up to check his watch. “But it’s only 8:47.”
You shrugged, gulping. “Just wasn’t working.” You laughed sarcastically, making Ian sigh.
“I’m sorry, (Y/N/N). Hey, is it okay if I stop by Mick’s real quick to grab my bookbag? I left it there this morning.”
You nodded, smiling at the mention of Mickey Milkovich. You absolutely loved Mickey. You used to have a thing with Mandy in middle school and you became extremely close to Mickey in the process. When things ended, you remained close friends with the both of them with no problems or awkwardness.
After the breakup, you hadn’t seen much of either of them. Mickey was hardly ever at school, and that’s just how it’s always been. But Mandy kind of just disappeared after Karen got hit, and although you knew why she hadn’t come back or reached out, you wished she would even if it was just to say hi.
“Of course.”
“Okay, thanks. You can go to mine if you want and wait for me— I know it’s cold. The front door should be unlocked.”
You nodded approvingly, smiling at him as you crossed the street to walk to his house as he continued straight to Mickey’s house. You reached out to touch the familiar metal fence, your lip twitching as you pushed it open. You sighed heavily after shutting it, looking up at the blue house.
Your heart stopped and your breath got caught in your throat. Lip was sitting on the porch with a cigarette in hand, his eyes already locked on you. You licked your lips nervously as your eyes trailed over him— he was wearing a suit and his hair was done the way you had always begged him to do. It was your favorite.
The sight alone made your heart plummet and your stomach sink. “I’m here for Ian.” You blurted, your eyes still locked with his. It seemed impossible to look away no matter how badly you wanted to.
Lip took a small drag before breathing it out, his tongue poking out to wet his chapped lips. “He’s not here.” He mumbled, finally breaking the eye contact. Your eyes burned when he looked down at his finished cigarette, his eyebrows furrowed as he held in the smoke. “Why are you in a dress?” He asked disgustedly as he threw the cigarette to the ground, crushing it with his foot.
You were taken aback by his tone, but you ignored it. “I know, he’s at Mickey’s to grab his book bag. He told me to come here and wait for him because I was cold.” You crossed your arms over your chest.
Lip wiped his hands on his pants, looking at you up and down once more, his face filled with utter confusion. “Probably because you’re in a dress,” He repeated. “Why?”
You rolled your eyes, looking him up and down as well. “Why are you in a suit?” You shivered at how nasty the words came out.
“Prom.” He answered coolly.
“Prom.” You repeated, motioning to yourself. He nodded in understanding before looking behind you. You turned, seeing Ian walking towards you.
“Shit, (Y/N), I’m sorry. He told me he wouldn’t be home until late tonight.” He whispered to you. He tossed the book bag onto his shoulders and wrapped his arm around you, rubbing at you softly. The physical contact made you tear up immediately and you stayed silent as Ian walked the two of you up to the house. Lip moved out of the way and watched the two of you walk in.
As soon as he shut the door behind you, you held a sob. “Come on, let’s go upstairs. Shh.” Ian whispered, rubbing at your shoulders as he guided you out of the doorway and onto the stairs.
You trudged up the steps with heavy legs and wet eyes, shivering slightly as the two of you walked into the bedroom the three teenage boys shared. Ian guided you towards his bed, shutting the door behind him. You let out another sob, making the young boy in the room gasp at your presence.
“(Y/N)!” Carl squeaked, making you jump. You looked over, seeing him sitting on his bed with Liam and action figures. Before you could reply, his smile had dropped and his lips were turned into a frown. “Why are you crying?”
You smiled softly at the boy, wiping at your face. “Hey, buddy.” You ignored the question like it was nothing even though your heart felt like it was on fire.
“Are you back home now?” He asked, voice full of hope. The way he had worded it made you sob even harder, Ian sighing. Home. You didn’t know what you were supposed to say, and Ian didn’t either, but thankfully he spoke up.
“Look, (Y/N/N)’s not having a good night and I have to go take a quick shower. Will you keep her company and make sure Lip doesn’t come in?” He asked, running a hand through your hair as he spoke to the teenager across the room. Carl’s eyebrows furrowed, but knew better than to ask questions. He nodded. “Great. I’ll be right back.”
He grabbed a fresh pair of boxers and an old shirt from his drawers before leaving the bedroom, leaving you alone with Carl and Liam. “Do you want to hold Liam? He said your name the other day; he misses you.” Carl asked.
Sniffling, you nodded, sitting up properly while Carl walked to the bed with the toddler. You smiled when Liam squealed, his legs kicking the air while he was being passed to you. Your heart soared and you couldn’t help but pull him close to you. You had been with Lip for all of Liam’s life so being away from him for months has definitely taken a toll on you. He hadn’t grown too much, but he sure did some way or another.
“Hi, baby!” You cooed, pulling him away so you could press a kiss to his cheek. He giggled at this, reaching for your necklace like usual. “I missed you!” You squealed, lifting the boy into the air.
“Did you miss me, too?” Carl piped, making you set Liam down on your lap. You smiled, your eyes still watery and smeared with mascara.
“How could I not?” You replied, pulling him closer to press a kiss to his cheek. He smiled, sitting beside you to help you tickle Liam- his head rising when the door swung open. You, too, looked up- your smile dropping when you saw Lip standing in the doorway. Carl frowned, “Go.”
Lip snorted, crossing his arms across his chest. “You go. I want to talk to (Y/N).” His words were firm but his voice was soft. You gulped, your body tensing up. Lip looked at you once again, his eyes gentle and sad.
“No,” Carl scoffed. “Ian specifically told me not to let you in while she’s here, and she’s already sad, so just leave her alone- Jesus.”
Lip sighed heavily, rubbing at his face before dropping his hands. They dipped into his pockets. “I’m not gonna hurt her- promise. I just want to talk.” Carl sighed, looking over at you for conformation. You thought for a moment before nodding, Carl taking Liam from you before leaving the two of you alone. “Thanks, man.”
You tried to tear your eyes off of him as you watched him shut the door but you couldn’t. He turned around, taking a look around the room before deciding to sit at the chair underneath the loft bed. You sat up straighter, wiping at your face with the back of your hands nervously. Lip started swaying in the chair, his chest pressed against the back of it while his chin rested on the top of the chair. You swallowed anxiously when your eyes met, your heart racing in your chest.
You had never felt this way around Lip Gallagher before but you absolutely hated it.
“Who did you go with?” He spoke up, his voice low and quiet.
Your breath hitched in your throat, your stomach stinking. You stayed quiet for a few moments before clearing your throat. “Marcus Greene,” Lip nodded silently before you cracked your fingers nervously. “What about you?”
“Some girl paid me 50 bucks to pretend to be her boyfriend at the prom so she could make her ex jealous- they were making out within ten goddamn minutes, so,” He shook his head, making you laugh. He reached into his pockets and pulled out cash, waving it in the air. “Still got paid, too.”
“Wow, you were there for ten minutes and still got 50 bucks?” Lip nodded. “Lucky you.”
He smiled at you, and you smiled back. It instantly became awkward, the silence becoming almost unbearable after three whole minutes (it felt more like ten).
“Hey,” Lip whispered, making you look up at him. “It’s only a quarter till’ 10, we still got a little while. I mean, you’re dressed, I’m dressed. We have tickets.. It’d be kind of a waste not to go, don’t you think?”
You smiled. You knew he didn’t care about prom or the money going to waste or any of it. You nodded eagerly. “Yeah, it would be a waste, wouldn’t it?”
“Yeah, but not with you. Nothing with you is a waste.”

I'm a little late but I just saw your post from a year ago about latinx rep in good girls and its sad reflecting back on it and how the show could've done better. Rio was just another stereotype, I hate how he was ambitiously latino and there was just no connection to his culture. Was he first, 2nd, or 3rd Gen? If he was 1st Gen it didn't make sense to have the family speak English. One thing that always annoyed me is how OOC he was at times and how the writers purposely made him out to be like some brown aggressive misogynistic man. They didn't bother making him complex. In a way I'm glad the show got canceled. As a Mexican woman the way Rio was written was racist.
Wah, I’ve been sitting on answering your ask. I wanted to tease your ask apart and respond to it sentence by sentence. But... my brain kept rechazandolo, so now I have feelings dump instead.
Since Good Girls ended, I have been parsing through how I feel about S4 and GG overall — sometimes more positively, sometimes more negatively. Then, I flip to reminding myself it’s not that serious (it's just tv! this is supposed to be my leisure activity!). Then, I waffle back to reflecting.
So, no textual analysis just feels and whining under the cut. I know folks are still mourning the end of the show and I don't want to yuck anyone's yum. Tagging with #ggnegativity.
My short answer is that Good Girls is my beloved, sometimes joyful, sometimes hurtful, complicated little show. Even now that we’re no longer getting new episodes I’m wary of sifting through the information we have about Rio because it’s a mess and it seems like a lot of his character was poorly thought out (ahem, all those dumb messages from Bill Krebs confirming multiple instances of lack of intentionality or care!).
I say this because I was tempted to start responding to you by riffing off of your comment with, “y'know, now that you say that, I think he’s third or fourth gen…”, pero who cares? And the point was never specifically about what gen he is, or even more specifically about... lol, I was going to say it doesn't matter what nationality he was, they just needed to pick one. Ugh, but the wording of that is too glib. The lack of intentionality behind these details feels sanitized to me, it feels very white gaze, it feels lazy.
However, I could have forgiven a lot of this weak character construction if his baseline, plot-related characterization on-screen was more consistent. But, Rio was often used as a plot device in a way that often fell flat for me, a weekly recurring bogeyman whether his antagonism made sense or not. On one hand, I feel for the creative team, because I think they were in a hard place, trying to avoid romanticizing Rio, and trying to seemingly backtrack the sexualization of him in Season 2, but... Idk, it's complicated.
Retrospectively, it’s sitting with me how much Good Girls is rooted in whiteness. While it's something I discerned before (lol, most obviously with 2x13 and in S3 with Lucy's disposability), you know how some shows get to their third or fourth season and finally start investing in their marginalized characters? It’s a crappy thing to hold out hope for, they're crumbs! But, I was. And we did get some Rio worldbuilding. But, ultimately, it felt weak to me -- under-conceptualized or under-worked.
For example, I liked Nick as a Bigger Bad who drove Rio and Beth together. I also thought that Nick's non-existent moral code was a lovely foil to Rio's, and that this contrast humanized Rio in a way that he needed. It also cast a new light on Rio's behavior of the earlier seasons, outside of Beth's perception in a way that I thought was healthy and needed. Great, meaty stuff! However, Nick and Rio's relationship came across as shallow to me. There really did not seem to be a lived-in quality to their scenes. The show really struggled with that element overall -- even with the three lead protagonists (their decades-long history with each other and interactions between their families being largely absent). I wonder why they made that choice.
It's strange because on the flip side we got a hefty amount of contextualization for MLM guy Vance and Annie's bf Kevin... Even that cop who Mick killed! All white men, too.
Me da pena.
Or maybe the thing that bothers me is that those scenes between Nick and Rio didn't center Rio's perspective effectively? Despite the one-on-one scenes being outside of Beth's framing (Rio being a secondary character typically tethered to Beth's story arc), there still was a lot of distance between Rio and the viewer? Like I think of Vance in his kitchen with his wife and child, and the way we as viewers were brought into that to empathize with him, and I think of the distance of Nick+Rio boxing scene or the scenes at the bar. Argh! It's hard to pinpoint without the textual analysis I feel too grumpy to do. It was such a narrative choice to keep Rio aloof and I side-eye it.
Anyway --
Overall, the writing room/show creators/decision-makers didn't seem to consider Latine/x/a/o viewers throughout the crafting of Good Girls and that sucks. It really feels like I'm being told to conform to the white gaze in watching the show, and after 2x13 that makes me feel prickly and defensive. A part of me yearns to do a rewatch to map Rio’s character (and inconsistencies) but I still yield joy from Good Girls — it’s been my main comfort story during the pandemic. I also rendered joy from Season 4 specifically — some of those scenes between the leads at the end were phenom!!
I am leaning into what's bringing me joy right now, so I feel hesitant to stew in critique, even while I also feel some sort of need to make sense of the hurtful racializations. I have a compulsion to write them all down on the same post or list -- somewhere where I can see them all at once and understand. But, at the moment, it’s not a use of my time and energy that feels good. Opting into fics and writing is bringing me a lot of joy during hard times.
I have to close with one final whine, that I am SO fatigued with television options right now. I find myself desperately wishing for more TV out there whose priority audience isn't only white folks. Good Girls isn't alone in its treatment of Latinx characters, or alone in mishandling characters of color or gay characters, or prioritization of empathy for white het male characters, but certainly, creating something more thoughtful shouldn't be so hard.

I know it’s the writers fault, and I feel like this season rio is a different person than seasons 1,2 and even 3. But if I ignore my opinions on the writers and the odd choices they’ve made for him, and just watch the show as a normal viewer, rio is fucking pissing me off. Like all he had to do was tell Beth she was being followed. He made the mess. And he’s such a dick. Like at this point kill her or don’t. But this whole “Rio can’t hurt Beth/rio has love for her/brio love triangle” thing? Like nah I’m not seeing it. He’s being literally stupid for no reason.
i'm v sorry he's pissing you off and you’re super entitled to feel that way! but tbh, personally i don't totally agree that he's different or that he's being stupid for no reason (though, if you're not buying into the idea that he's genuinely into beth than yeah, i can v much see why you would feel that way, i think that's a p significant puzzle piece).
imo, the primary difference between the rio of s4 and the rio of previous seasons isn't in the character, but how much more context/insight/backstory we're getting for him. we’ve seen bits and pieces before, but they’ve been very sporadic (something that’s been a p consistent complaint since i joined the fandom) and i think s4 has really dug into shading rio’s character and backstory in with much more detail and depth than we’ve seen so far. i also think the show's p steadily developed the idea that he has some degree of genuine feeling for beth (and that they make him act rashly and stupidly) along the same pace.
putting the rest of this below the cut bc it got long and should you continue, do so with the caveat that i’m not here to change anyone’s mind, i’m just breaking down why i disagree.
in s1, rio was a p one-dimensional character (like, on paper he's basically a walking first page google search result for "mexican gang banger stereotypes") and it's a testament to how much manny brought to his performance and the way he sparks with his scene partners (particularly christina and jim) that he came across so engagingly and elevated the character far enough that people so easily overlook that. over the course of s2, they peeled back the curtain a little bit and rounded him out more in ways that (imo and ymmv) really efficiently counteracted that stereotypical portrayal like introducing marcus, being softer with beth, and the different faceted glimpses of him we saw through his personal and business spaces (the club, his loft and bar). in terms of his feelings, while a lot of the softness with beth was him working an angle, we still caught glimpses that hinted at something real developing in his reactions to her that either served no purpose for keeping her in line (the way the camera lingered on his face falling in 209 after beth had turned away and couldn't see him) or, most significantly imo, doing things for her that actively undermined his authority (retrieving!!!!!!!! the!!!!!!!!!! dubby!!!!!!!!!!!!).
and speaking of 209, we also saw him react in increasingly more irrational and outlandish ways (ignoring her calls/texts about the fbi closing in on a business he’s somewhat tied up in, sending her body parts in the mail, kidnapping her) in reaction to beth quitting him, underscoring both the idea that 209 (and beth) meant something to him and that he gets real dramatic and questionably intelligent when he’s in his feelings.
there's nothing to really say any of this was a swerve from s1 bc s1 left p much everything on the table. s3 built that out a bit more both in terms of what we know about him (thinking specifically of fitz's rundown of what he gets up to when beth's not around) and his feelings for beth (how he handled the wake of 213 was, uh, illuminating and it’s been made even more illuminating with the context s4 added with nick’s involvement in rio’s business and the fact that nick knew nothing about lucy).
s4, to me, is building on all of that (see the above comment about the new layer of context to lucy and repeat, for one). we’ve met his family (who they’ve already hinted he’s very close to through the photos in his loft), we’ve found out how he got involved in crime in the first place (and i've seen criticism of the tragedy aspect of it and how that disproportionately applies to characters of color and that’s super valid, though i do think there’d also be a lot of valid criticism if they’d gone the opposite route and written rio as knowingly and gleefully deciding to be a criminal. the show kind of put itself in an impossible position there, but that’s something that goes back to s1 and the entire concept of his character. i’m not saying there isn’t a nuanced way to tell this story but, i don’t think anyone in the fandom would argue the gg team doesn’t often do so well with narrowly threaded needles, hahaha), and we’ve also seen that rio’s got some kind of big, complicated feelings for beth that result in him making moves and choices that both are and aren’t in his best interest/at her expense and the dichotomy is sloppy bc, as established, those kinds of feelings make rio sloppy.
honestly, i think one of the biggest reasons rio’s deepening characterization is so controversial is bc by holding off for so long (a choice that i admire conceptually from a storytelling angle—keeping him shrouded in mystery keeps the audience firmly rooted in the girls’ POVs which is where they want us to be—but v understand how it hasn’t worked for a lot of people and do think they’ve fumbled it at a couple of key steps), it allowed people to sort of choose their own rio and now that the show’s committing to their vision, it’s demolishing a lot of people’s personal versions and that sucks! if the show ever canonically says rio and mick haven’t been friends since they were kids, i, for one, am going to elect to ignore it bc FALSE!!!!!! but this phenomenon is also, you know, part of watching tv. someone else writes it, you ultimately have no say in it, you can really only decide for yourself when it no longer sparks joy enough that it’s a dealbreaker and you walk.
BUT yeah, i guess to wrap it all up, i do think s4 rio tracks with and has been directly built on the rios that have come before, but also think that accepting that he has big messy feelings for beth is a crucial part in understanding the choices he’s making, and if that’s not working for you, i don’t see this trajectory ultimately being v satisfying bc uh, yeah, i think it’s only going to get exponentially messier as we go.

a follow from the queen? i am honored 🥺 i’m in the same side blog/main blog situation so no worries! not sure if i can replicate my 1am big brain antics but let’s keep the ✨f1 walk of shame✨ going
mick like mentioned by someone goes all out. breakfast, drive home, want him to wash your clothes? he’ll do it. apologizes profusely for having to walk his dog like??? sir???
valtteri is so awkward it’s painful one could only hope for a walk of shame before he’s awake
kimi the iceman is probably like ’this was nice’ after he’s fucked you five ways into next thursday and is no doubt asleep long into the day after so you’re on your own getting back home
esteban is so sweet and a little shy and probably kisses you goodbye when you leave as if you’re a couple already and he’s just seeing you off to work so you leave all 😳
george i feel is harder to pinpoint but there’s definitely tea instead of coffee because that dude is posh AND british. gets you a cab and is probably a little cocky because he got a (hopefully) good fuck, saw you off shirtless and is in an overall good mood the morning after. merc george will especially be a cocky asshole but still nice somehow? like he’s Trying to be cool and it’s so obvious
carlos doesn’t even offer you to stay the night. gives you a bro pat on the back as if saying ’good job’ lmao
fernando is someone you might think is a bit of an ass but turns out being a whole cutie offering to sleep on the couch in his own house and you’re just ???? sir it’s fine i can just leave and he’s like in the middle of the night?! no way. you stay here i’ll drive you home in the morning
don’t know much about gio but nice enough? idk might prioritize washing his hair the morning after so you’re like ’i’ll just see myself out lol’. confused when you’ve left after he’s done
yuki doesn’t even make it to the next morning, passed out like a light like less than a minute after cumming so you just get dressed and leave him to sleep (gets clowned for this by pierre because this kid is dumb enough to tell his teammate)
checo is probably pretty nice but doesn’t know how to act really so he just makes it weirder than it had to be but he calls a cab for you! so that’s something i guess??
lance could either be his very sweet self and asks if you want to shower before you leave or half kicks you out so he doesn’t have to deal with morning after etiquette. gives you a hoodie to leave in if you do end up staying the night but doesn’t go out of his way to make things nice like bitch this isn’t a hotel you can help yourself to breakfast if you want but like i said could very well be a sweetheart and attempt scrambled eggs or something before you leave
i think that’s the entire grid?? wow 😮‍💨
Tumblr media
Yessssss rounding out the grid!! Of course, as exactly as I'd expected, these are all just as on point as the previous set (which you can find here if you're interested!) and more than a few of these 110% fit the way I feel about some drivers to the letter lmaooooo 💀 I couldn't have said it better myself!
Mick's is dead on, like it'd the exact vibe of how I'm writing him in the one shot I'm working on (he's a touch dominant because no matter what way I look at it I can't imagine him being anything other than kind and patience and gentle but get him in the right place, right time and you have yourself an unparalleled experience waiting for you ✋😩)
Also yes, Carlos in my head is encaptured perfectly by the singular sentence you allocated him 💀as you should, honestly the handful of words speaks volumes lmaooo.
And I have a really specific slightly off topic theory about Lance but like hear me out... Sara did the hard work, she taught him, but between how much he clearly worships her, how sweet and genuine their relationship seems, and his golden retriever boy energy...you cannot convince me that he doesn't give great fucking head... what he lacks in technique, he more than makes up for in dedication and the drive to make his woman happyyyy

In my Heart is a Christmas Tree Farm
Day 6 of @captaincanary-week! Prompt: Undercover
Read on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/35761735
Sara balls her gloved fists tighter in the pockets of her puffy winter vest. After a manhunt through time – them being the hunted, of course – they pulled off into December 2009 and now they’re hiding around in a small town. They’ve split up over the town to make it harder for Druce and his surviving minions. Originally her group consisted of herself, Leonard, Mick, and Amaya, but somewhere along the way they lost the last two so now she and Leonard are hiding out by walking the fields of a busy Christmas tree farm alone.
A very cold Christmas tree farm.
“What do you think the look on Hunter’s face would be if we brought a tree back to the ship?” Len asks, and the mental image is enough to make her laugh.
“I think Ray would make it a tradition.”
Somewhat to her surprise, Leonard scrunches his eyebrows at her answer.
“Isn’t Raymond Jewish?”
“Yeah.” She answers with a stiff shrug. “It’s still something he could cover in twinkling lights.”
“Touché.”
They walk in silence for another few minutes, looking out among the tress both for their adversaries and… well she can’t speak for Leonard, but looking around at potential Christmas tress holds a nostalgia for her. She can’t imagine it would for him, that his father would’ve-
“Wait a minute.” She cuts off her own thoughts, “Aren’t you Jewish?”
He smirks at her delayed observation, his eyes still scanning along the rows of trees.
“On my mother’s side, which is the only side I care about. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to see Hunter’s face when we drag a seven-foot tree onto his precious ship.”
Seven-foot. Of course, Leonard Snart can’t do anything half way, especially not when the intent is to piss someone off.
“You celebrate Christmas, right?” He asks, “I know you’re not religious.”
“Yeah.” She confirms. “The whole dying thing pretty much ruined religion for me, not that I was practicing before but, you know.”
He nods, and it’s one of those things where they’ve never really gone deep into this, but he gets it. He has his darkness’s, his demons; things that have a way of driving a person deep either to or away from faith.
She shivers as a wind blows by, and she notes Len glancing at her.
“Cold?” He asks,
“You aren’t?” She counters. They’re both dressed for the weather; he’s in his parka and his usual jeans, while she’s got a long-sleeved fleece and a puffy winter vest. They’d both opted for gloves and a beanie, though she’s wishing she’d picked thicker ones.
He shrugs, apparently indifferent.
“Doesn’t bother me.”
She rolls her eyes, and she has a remark on her tongue about Captain Cold and he’s only saying that to keep up his image. But before she can fully put the words together he nods over to the start of the fields. Specifically, to the grey barn located there and decked out with wreaths and twinkling lights around its entrance.
She follows along, blending into the heavier crowd of people surrounding the barn, paying for their trees at the little booth right outside it. It looks like at one point the booth might have been an outhouse, a long time ago.
The barn itself is crowded, though not so much as the outside. It’s been converted from a functional barn into a small country store. There are shelves that boast local crafts and pottery, and a counter with a line for hot cider, cocoa, and baked goods. A small radio in the corner next to the space heater fills the barn with the sound of Christmas music.
“Close quarters.” Sara remarks as she and Len kick the snow from her boots on the welcome mat. “If Druce and his goons come in here, not a lot of escape routes.”
“No.” Len drawlingly agrees. “But plenty of witnesses, and we broke they’re memory flasher.”
True, and they left it with no chance of repair.
“Besides.” Len continues, “I want some cider.”
Sara snickers as he abandons her for the line.
“Get me one.” She calls after him, and he merely waves her off, a message that he was already planning on it.
She chuckles to herself and begins to walk around the shop. She’s drawn to the wrack of knit hats, gloves, and slippers first. They might be in this time period for a few more days, and the weather is only projected to get colder. Gideon’s fabricator is great for one-time items, but they never seem to hold warmth in the way you would desire with winter clothes.
Her mind made up; she selects a blue hat with a white fur pom-pom at the top to replace her black beanie.
Continuing to look around she moves to a table overrun by wreaths, candles, plastic snowmen, and other seasonal odds and ends. She smiles to herself as she thinks about bringing a tree back to the ship, and picks up a snowman figurine to check the price sticker. Maybe Leonard’s right, the ship could use some holiday spirit. Seeing the look on Rip’s face would be enough reason to do it, but also the ship isn’t just a “trip” anymore. It’s their life. They should celebrate things like holidays.
Her thoughts are interrupted by a presence beside her and a paper cup of hot cider being slipped into her hands.
“Thanks.” She says, smiling up at Leonard.
When she looks up, he isn’t looking at her.
She follows his gaze; her shoulders squaring and her mind ready to slip into battle mode. He has that look on his face. She tracks his line of sight over to the entrance, yep, definitely need to have battle mode on standby.
It isn’t even one of Druce’s lackeys who’s walked in; it’s Druce.
She takes a step to the side, putting herself firmly behind Leonard.
“Druce located us.” She murmurs into her earpiece while Len turns so that Druce won’t catch him looking. “Don’t think we’ve been seen yet.”
At her words she already feels Len’s hand coming to rest on her side, and she does her best to ignore the warm feeling it instills inside her. It’s part of blending in, nothing more.
“Copy that Miss Lance.” Rip’s voice returns. “We’re on our way.”
“Great.” Snart mumbles behind her, and she allows herself a grin.
“What do you think?” She says, her voice low, and Snart glances to the side, sizing up the left side of the room while she takes the right.
“He’s definitely looking for us.” He says, “He might ask, say we’re his friends.”
She hums, “Ten feet from here to the door, good crowd for cover.”
“What about your hat?”
It’s such an obscure comment that for half a second it jolts her out of the mindset of the mission. She glances to the new beanie still clutched in her hand, her mind catching back up and of course Len hadn’t forgotten she’s holding a new hat she’d been intending to buy. He doesn’t forget details, no matter how small. She has a comment on her tongue about him being a thief, but this isn’t the time to voice it. Even he has standards. Yes, he’s a – unofficially reformed – crook, but he wouldn’t steal from some small-time local crafter.
“No time.” She decides, placing the hat back on the table, only for him to pick it back up.
“Only one other person in line.” He observes, “And like I said, plenty of witnesses if he tries something.”
He steps away towards the register before she can make any kind of an argument, and of course she follows him because hey, safety in numbers.
The cashier is just finishing up with the other customer by the time she catches up, so she keeps her eye on Druce while Leonard makes small talk and pays for the hat. So far Druce is proving he is about as inconspicuous out in the world as Rip; which is not very. He’s making a round of the barn, looking behind support beams decorated in white Christmas lights and smaller trees that have been brought inside and decorated. At this rate it’s only a matter of time before someone takes pity on him and asks if he’s ok, or before he sees them.
The click of the register drawer opening lets her know it’s almost safe for them to get out of here, and she smiles at the cashier as Len accepts his change and receipt and she grabs the new hat off the counter. They wish the cashier a Merry Christmas and turn for the door just like any other customer who has finished their shopping.
“Thanks.” She says as she swaps out her old beanie for the new one. It’s unspoken that she’ll either give him cash later or buy him a drink, depends where the day goes.
He smirks, and looks over his shoulder, then turns his head back quick; very quick.
She knows what that means; he caught Druce’s eye.
They’re right at the door, almost home free, but not quite. She looks around, they can’t very well bolt right out the door at break-neck speed. But it won’t take Druce long to get across the barn, and being so close to the door it will be easy for him to get those stupid future handcuffs on them; the only Snart-proof cuffs ever invented.
Then, she notices a recognizable green bundle tied up in a red bow and hanging above the doorframe, and an idea falls into place in her head.
“Mistletoe.” She says, nodding towards the door and what she’s seen, and Snart’s hand at her waist is answer enough.
Being the one who is closer to the doorjamb he takes the lead, using his hand to guide her over with him until she can spin in front of him with a dirty smile. She frames his face with her hands and eagerly rises up to meet his lips. Her back against the jamb, they look like a perfectly ordinary happy couple taking full advantage of the mistle toe. More importantly, they draw enough attention that Druce can’t make a move.
Sara knows she has to be the one to move, to get them out of here, but dammit she wants to enjoy this for five seconds. So she keeps kissing Leonard, his breath warm and welcoming on her lips. That breath hitches when she slides her hands back, looping them behind his head, and she’s supposed to step back and drag him out of the barn with her, but instead she pulls. She pulls him forward, closer, and then she steps back and around to the barns outside wall, mouth still attached to his like a fish on a hook.
When they break apart she takes in a gasping breath. They have to move, they both know this, before Druce catches up with them.
“Been awhile since we did that.” Snart says after he’s caught his breath.
It has.
They’ve been in this odd in-between place ever since The Oculus six months ago. They never talked about what happened there, but things between them aren’t entirely the same as before. The changes are subtle, but they’re there. They touch more openly, communicate with little or no words more freely. If the cover calls for it she’ll easily fall into his side, much like today. Sometimes they spend the night together after a game of cards or a movie, but it’s just sleeping. He’ll kiss her head; she’ll kiss his cheek, or his shoulder if she’s inclined but it isn’t the place to be reaching up on her toes. There have even been a handful of pecks on the lips. But a kiss like that? Long and gratuitous? They haven’t kissed like that since that day they refuse to acknowledge.
“Yeah.” She agrees, her voice flat and embarrassed. She isn’t naive. She knows the reason they haven’t discussed it is… well, it isn’t her fault, but it is because of her.
They were going to talk, when Rip tried abandoning them all after they lost Savage to history. They were going to talk after they’d each had time to think and check in on their sisters.
Then Laurel was dead.
Laurel was dead, and how do you start a conversation about building a future in the wake of something like that?
Leonard weaves his gloved hand through hers, interrupting her thoughts and leading her behind the barn, off to disappear into the rows of trees once again. They walk quickly, the need to make up for precious seconds lost spent standing there catching their breath starting to gnaw at them both. They cut in-between some skinnier trees, trying to get farther ahead, and once she thinks they’ve gone far enough Sara weaves between two more trees into the next row and then chances a look back over her shoulder.
No Druce in sight.
“I think we’re clear.” She says, her breath coming out in a cloudy puff in front of her as Len comes between two trees, pine needles snagging on his jacket.
“Good.” He huffs, and the next thing she knows he’s got his hand tipping her chin up and he’s kissing her again. It happens so fast she yelps in surprise, but she kisses him back eagerly, happily.
His hands find her waist and he pulls her closer, and she takes it as an invitation to kiss him harder. Her tongue knocks at his mouth, asking for entrance. He obliges, his grip on her waist tightening and by either his sheer instinct or hers they start to rock on their feet, her taking a clumsy step back.
She squeals as her ankles rolls over the stump left behind by someone’s choice of Christmas tree. She falls back and crosses her other leg in an attempt to catch herself but Leonard, also taken by surprise, doesn’t realize what’s happened fast enough and topples down on top of her.
They land with a crunch and a thud in the thin layer of icy snow covering the ground. It hurts, but Sara is laughing too hard to care. And besides, she doesn’t exactly mind the view of Leonard looming over her as he picks himself up.
He’s smiling at her, that smile spreading when he sees she’s laughing and thus not exceptionally hurt.
He gets up, and offers her a hand, which she accepts. After he’s hauled her to her feet they look around.
“The team will be here soon.” He reminds her, and maybe himself too.
Then he looks at her with that mischievous glint in his eye.
“Finish this back on the ship?”
She grins, brushing herself off.
“I’ll bring the scotch.”

I was reading Norman's biography of Mick Jagger the other day and at some point I realized that good old Mick had it BAD for John. They hung out a lot in the Lost Weekend and Mick seemed heartbroken when May told him John had gone back to Yoko. He was so upset that he talked to the press about it multiple times, whining about not having any access to John and that he was hiding behind Sean. Mick wasn't wrong, though. I was just very entertained by his reaction. Then there is this:
"Mick, as a result, had found himself in the—for him—highly unusual position of wanting to see someone but having his every friendly overture rebuffed.
From his sitting room window, he could see the Gothic rooftops of Lennon’s home, and would sometimes act out the part of a spurned girlfriend: “[John’s] right over there. Does he ever call me? Does he ever go out? No. Changes his phone number about every ten minutes. I’ve given up . . .” But there was no disguising how much this apparent indifference really hurt. Once or twice, he put aside the Tyranny of Cool sufficiently to leave Lennon a note with his own current phone number at the Dakota concierges’ desk, but no response ever came."
LOL "John is right over there. IS HE THINKING OF ME?" The thirst was real, you guys. I don't remember Mick being this sad about any of his women leaving him. Me thinks Johnny hit and quit it but someone fell in love, you see.
I agree, Mick sounds like a jilted lover/girlfriend here who just wants to be at least acknowledged. He was seriously upset about the fact that, when John went back to Yoko he knew that she didn’t like him. She thought he wasn’t worth John’s time and was a bad influence. Gotta remember, Mick and John had been friends since the sixties-- Mick was much closer to John then Paul, even.
Also talk about the gall because she was completely fine with John hanging out with the likes of Klein, Phil Spector, and Magic Alex... Like, talk about bad influences-- Phil fucking pointed a gun at John because he liked to freak John out and upset him. She liked these people. She approved of them for John. Yoko isn’t fully to blame, John also holds blame for how he’d treat people and just cut them off [even if he personally didn’t want too] but she encouraged John to cut ties with family and close, old friends just, like that.
I feel for Mick. I honestly feel for anyone who loved John, it did seem trying at times. I mean, sometimes it’s not always easy for me to love John just as some crazed groupie... I could only imagine how intense and, confusing and exciting and, memorable it would have been to know him, personally, and get to love him personally.
I personally don’t think anything serious happened between John and Mick. Kind of like how I believe nothing deeper then just, solid friendship was between John and Stu-- someone he could confide in, who wasn’t just Paul.
Was there flirting between the two? Absolutely, though I find it to be a partially playful joking sort of flirting between friends, and partially with a serious edge to it. Libra’s are natural flirters, they often to do it unintentionally because it’s just, part of their personality. John most likely both an unintentional and intentional flirt, and his male friends weren’t left out on his teasing’s and naughty, playful behavior [specifically moreso open and direct about it in the 70s]
But, I do think you’re right that Mick had it bad. Most male friends of John seemed to have it bad for him, in some way or another. Women and men loved John-- he was rather easy to love, despite how he’s painted and the sort of front he put up. As Paul said-- John was a loveable guy, everyone loved him, and he was right [though Paul usually only mentions everyone else when talking about loving John, deflects onto others at the same time but I digress]
Even men who apparently thought of him a poky bastard seemed to inevitably be drawn to him, and like him [like David Bailey]
He was loved, so, so much.
“The theory is that when John went off to Spain on holiday with Brian, that’s what it was all about - John trying to get his position clear as the leader of the group. Also, I’m sure Brian was in love with John. We were all in love with John, but Brian was gay so that added an edge.” Paul McCartney - Anthology
PAUL: “Well, I’m sure Brian was in love with John, I’m sure that’s absolutely right. I mean, everyone was in love with John; John was lovable, John was a very lovable guy.” [x]
“What did John Lennon see in me? I think outrageousness and being true to myself and not giving a fuck. We hit it off straight away, even though I was in complete awe of him. He was nothing else but kind to me. I never saw the other side of John, the Harry Nilsson drinking side of John, where he turned on a sixpence. I only saw the gentle, gorgeous side of John, and he was gentle not only to me but my parents, my band members, and I just fell in love with him.”
— Elton John [x]
“Nowhere can the caring side of John Lennon be documented more accurately than in his relationship with Malcolm Evans, the very tall and bespectacled man who became a regular as a road manager, along with Neil Aspinall, on the Beatles’ tours. Evans had a magnetic personality and was a favorite with reporters and the women who tagged along. His smile and charm could be deceptive; he would have done anything to protect the Beatles. At one point on the touring aircraft, while traveling from Jacksonville to Boston in 1964, a tired Mal Evans sat next to me in the rear of the aircraft with tears trickling down his face. I asked, “What’s the matter?” Mal answered, “John got kind of cross with me … just said I should go f— off. No reason, ya’ know. But I love the man. John is a powerful force. Sometimes he’s rough, if you know what I mean, man. But there’s no greater person that I know.” I never learned what the dispute was about, but I do know that a few minutes later, a sullen Lennon walked by and embraced Evans.” — Larry Kane [x]
“Sharing a twisted sense of humour and a penchant for mischief, Nilsson and Lennon were natural buddies. It was perhaps inevitable that the LA-dwelling singer would gravitate towards Lennon. Lennon clearly appreciated Nilsson’s edginess and was very likely looking for a male soulmate to fill the hole left by McCartney. For his part, Nilsson’s feelings for Lennon ran even deeper: ‘I really fell in love with him. He was all those things you wanted somebody to be.”
Man On The Run: Paul McCartney in the 1970s by Tom Doyle [x]
“But the acerbic John is the one we know and love, you know, because he was clever with it, so it was very attractive. But, for me, I have more than a slight affection for the John that I knew then, when we were first writing songs, when we would try and do things the old songwriters had done. I slightly regret the way John’s image has formed, and because he died so tragically it has become set in concrete. The acerbic side was there but it was only part of him. He was also such a sweet, lovely man – a really sweet guy. ””
— Paul McCartney, discussing John Lennon [x]
John was a charming man in his own right, charismatic, and funny. Having a good sense of humor is always attractive, and draws people to you. As Paul says, and Elton, John was kind, he was sweet and friendly. He wasn’t always this, Mr. Tough and aggressive, ripping into people with his sharp tongue. He was gentle, he could be gentle, in his own way. Warm, and loving.
He had this ability to just... make you feel like you’ve known him longer then you actually have. Like you have some sort of, special relationship or connection with him-- that you were the only one who was close enough to see underneath his armor, to know him as intimately as anyone else ever could.
Course, this was simply how many felt and wanted to be the reality[specifically men], when it wasn’t, not exactly. They didn't really know the real John, they didn't get to see him at his most sincere, when his beautiful armor was chipped away and he was standing naked and scared. He described himself like a chameleon when it came to social settings, when interacting with different individuals [friends], which honestly makes sense as a Libra [Gemini’s are just as guilty of this]
They got to know a facet of John... Maybe they did get a glimpse of John here and there, but it’s just reality that John didn’t just, open up so easily to people like that. He didn’t like feeling vulnerable, and he had a habit of testing people’s loyalty and love for him [whether it had been consciously or not, I’m not always sure] because of the insecurities and doubt that one day, they’d turn on him or abandon him.
Again, he had this way in making people [other men] feel as if they had an intimate and special connection with him. And maybe they did to varying degrees. John had a way to act open with others, without actually being open and vulnerable, or at least not fully. I’m not sure if I’m making sense lol
Only ones who I think ever got to know the real John, were Mimi(of course she raised him), Pete (friends since they were just peanuts), Cynthia somewhat, May got glimpses and wanted John to be himself and independent... Yoko to a degree (though she focuses on entirely pushing and talking about Brand John Lennon™)
And who I know for a fact did, and does know John the most intimately, deeply, unabashedly, is Paul.
But anyway, speaking of being so very attractive, John was attractive. Like, many women and men found him exceedingly attractive, like this one male photographer who believed John was the most handsome out of the band;
“I think John was the best looking, actually. The refined nose.  He never went out of his way to be a disagreeable person.  He would be the one to go over and just sit and sign some little girl’s book...”
Harry Benson, photographer who took the photo of the iconic pillow fight and other well known Beatle photos, talks about John. [x]
Then we have David Bailey, who described Paul, Ringo, and George as rather pleasant-- while describing John as being a fucker, a bit poky.
And yet, it was John who David Bailey claimed to like, out of all of them.
“I didn’t like the Beatles – I liked John ... John was a fucker. Paul was always the nicest guy in the world. George, he always seemed full of angst. Ringo always seemed Mr Nice Guy. But John was a bit poky; I liked him.”
-- David Bailey Originally; published in the March 2014 issue of British GO magazine.
That’s honestly the only parts of the interview worth reading, Bailey is sort of a dickhead and clearly seems biased against Paul, and just The Beatles as a band in general, so [which is fascinating. Considering he might’ve been peeved towards Paul ever since John brought his partner along for that photoshoot because he didn’t want to go in alone lol]
Mick did love John, though in what way or in what varying degree, is up for discussion and personal conclusion. Just like how it’s up to interpretation and discussion how much and in what way David Bowie, Elton John, Harry Nilsson, Mal Evans, Billy Preston, and Brian Epstein loved John.
But it’s clear as day that, in my opinion, they almost all seemed to have some sort of man-crush on him. A serious admiration. Harry Nilsson sounded like he was in a bro-mance with John [or at least he wanted to be in one with him]
Course we can’t forget Paul, but we all know that Paul loved John in such varying degrees, it’s truly impossible to label it. They’re soulmates, can’t really categorize the love between soulmates so easily.
Anyway, point of this all; Mick definitely had it bad for John, but then again who didn’t?

CLARE !! thank you for reblogging the directors cut post. I'd like to ask how you came up with this absolute work of ART from invictus . It stays in my mind rent free . I've literally sent a screenshot of this to 3 of my close friends and we have obsessed over it several times !!!!! To the point where we say 'let's take the James approach to this situation' when we are dealing with some bullshit life has thrown at us. LOVE UUUU QUEEN 💗♥️
The exercpt -
When hope left Pandora’s box, it must have idled in the breeze for thousands of years, waiting for the day James Potter was born. It is stitched into every muscle in his body.
“Alright?” He prompts once more, and after a moment, she nods. Someone switches the record again, and Mick Jagger’s voice fills the space between them.
James isn’t a realist—she’s always occupied that space in their relationship. But he’s sitting in front of her, real and flesh and blood and breathing, and to believe him is a choice. She will choose the life he’s envisioned, and if nothing else, if the world falls apart around them, that at least will have been in her power.
ok! first of all, this question made me actually squeal out loud. like, full "EEEEEEEE!" in a public place when I read it an hour ago, which was unfortunate because I was on my way to the gym and could not answer quite yet. but I need you to know how much I am honored and flattered that you have sent passages from my work to your friends!???!? omfg?!?!??!?
but to actually get into the meat of the (wonderful) question, here we go:
I find Greek mythology to be so metaphorically rich and beautiful, and the way that the Classical Greek poets and writers personify emotion and human experience is so enchanting. I catch myself referencing it quite a bit in my fics, and I even have an unpublished/unfinished draft on AO3 called theogony which tells Jily's story through the lenses of different minor Greek gods.
the Pandora's box passage came after a few minutes of sitting with my James in my head - what are his key traits? what do I want to get across in this specific story? and I knew that his unyielding optimism was the main one, so I really tried to create an image that would convey the magnitude of its presence in his personality. I remembered the story of Pandora's box, and how Hope was left behind while the plagues of the world were released; and I thought, what if it was waiting for someone? and then there we go!
--
the second passage is really an example of me trying to balance action and description, which I do with varying levels of success from story to story. but I love writing scenes with music - it adds such a layer to the ambience, and it is such an easy way to subtly give voice to emotion, even if the characters themselves aren't speaking or moving. in invictus, I wanted the music to move and shift with Lily - she's having a quiet, withdrawn moment, and then when James approaches and really digs deep into her emotions, the entire mood of the room shifts for her, music included.
--
the third passage is where I muscle into the title of the story, the poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley, which is one of my favorite poems of all time. Lily is sitting here, forced to be more jaded than James because of her life experiences and her upbringing, and she has two options: rebuff what he's saying and sink further into the melancholy of the war, or choose to let some of his light in - and one of the great things about how I envision their relationship is that he never pushes one or another on her, and will accept her either way, but just the knowledge of his presence encourages her to accept some of his optimism. I wanted to play around with the concept of personal/emotional agency in invictus, that one thing the war could never take away from these kids - because, honestly, they were kids - is their choice to participate and to believe in a better world, and for Lily especially, this is so grounded in her interpersonal relationships.
a good friend of mine wrote a piece in memoriam for someone we went to high school with who passed away this past year, and there's one line in it that haunts me to this day, part of which I shamelessly threw into Bond and Free because it's just aching and beautiful, and I think it summarizes invictus really well:
"Human connection is such a shallow, finicky thing and yet it’s oxygen."
thank you again for this question. invictus is really, really special to me, so it really warms my heart to know it's impacted other people too. xx

what do you think are some iconic/memorable schumi moments? i just got into f1 and would like to know more about him bc somehow i can’t really find anything like that about him.... just stats which are incredibly impressive but i can’t find anything about how he behaved or just anything about his personality..... thanks <3
:) Hi anon, thank you for unleashing the beast.
Ok I love you for asking me this thank you SO MUCH. Welcome to the circus I’m glad you’re here! Also yeah, Schumi is often talked about in terms of statistics and not as a human, Which is a shame bc like! Schumi is fascinating and the dynamics on the grid in late 90s F1 is so much fun! Also, this is mainly going to be late 90s -> early 2010s stuff bc I was born in 98 so uhhh I didn’t properly witness ANY 90s stuff and had to learn about it.
OK so I got super carried away but I’ve divided this into 3 sections: Drives/races that I think showcase some of his talents, human moments we need to talk about more, and Chaotic Little Bitch moments. The key thing to remember w/ Schumi is that he personally tends to be nice but as soon as you put him in a competition, Bastard Mode activates like a cat’s pupils going wide.
I am so sorry for the following short essay. Also some crashes are briefly mentioned but only ones with absolutely no injuries and there’s no details.
Chaotic Little Bitch Moments
Schumi debuted as a SUBSTITUTE driver for Jordan when one of their drivers was in police custody (yes. really.) The highest a Jordan had qualified all year was 10th and in his DEBUT at SPA, one of the toughest tracks, in the middle of the season, Schumi qualified that Jordan 7th! THEN his clutch failed before the first lap was even complete, but Benetton and Jordan WENT TO COURT to fight each other to sign him for their team before the next race in Monza. He couldn’t debut normally he HAD to cause a scene and set the tone.
The Red Strings of Fate: He qualified 7th, his iconic 7 starred helmet, his first victory next year was ALSO at Spa - his first complete race would be at Monza, Ferrari Holy Ground, and he finished 5th which 👀 1) he was immediately racing with The Greats. 2) Mr 5 Championships With Ferrari.
Winning a race by taking a stop and go penalty on the last lap, crossing the finish line in the pits, and making such a complicated argument about said penalty that in a hearing that was SUPPOSED to be Mclaren protesting the race result the stewards scrapped the entire penalty and the 3 who awarded it handed in their licenses??? Iconic.
Austria 2002 where Rubens was ordered to give the win to Michael. And then Michael fucking made him stand on the top step on the podium like “oh no no no RUBENS deserves this” and made a big SHOW out of it and its like “Michael stop you’re not making it heartwarming you’re making it WORSE Michael STOP” The Tension of germany 2010 podium VS the theatricality of THIS podium.
Team orders were banned because of this which also makes this indirectly responsible for Fernando Is Faster Than You having to be a coded message. You can’t escape him,
Blocking Alonso in Monaco qualifying and then, years later in 2010, overtaking Alonso technically illegally at Monaco (the race was ending under safety car, but the safety car doesn’t lead them over the line it pits and they’d crossed the safety car line and the regulations were NOT specific about the rules) and getting a 20 second penalty bc Damon Hill was a steward. Haunting FERNANDO specifically at Monaco like the ghost of christmas past? Getting a harsh penalty because ANOTHER driver he’d fucked over was a steward? Forcing the FIA to rewrite the rulebook to account for his nonsense when he was in his FOURTIES? I don’t know another chaos king.
Winning the 1995 championship by crashing into Damon Hill, getting AWAY with it for some reason, and then trying to do the same thing in 1997 to Villeneuve, failing to do so and simply rebounding off of him harmlessly, almost COMICALLY, and beaching his own car in a gravel trap at which point the FIA said “I have had ENOUGH of you Wacky Races Man!” and disqualified him from the entire championship
Forcing Mika off the track so bad at Spa 2000 that Mika realized the only way he was gonna be able to get past him was to re-invent the overtake and go for it whilst they were passing a backmarker. (The overtake itself is at 2:05 in the video but the build up to it is Important bc the key part it’s not just badass, it only happened bc Mika knew who he was dealing with.)
Spa 1998 was a Ridiculously Chaotic race it truly was the Mugello 2020 of its year, and after a crash at the start that took out almost the entire grid Schumi accidentally collided with Coulthard later in the race. (The teams used to have a spare car at every race then, so the race was able to continue after a restart.) This wasn’t a racing thing, Coulthard was getting lapped. So something in Schumi SNAPS, and he storms down the pitlane and tries to fight Coulthard while the mclaren and ferrari mechanics both hold him back and finally drag him away. He projected into the future, saw Coulthard was gonna talk non-stop shit about Seb, and acted accordingly.
Monaco 2012 Pole don’t talk to me about this I still can’t believe the audacity of this man to get the only pole of his comeback, at MONACO, at the ONE RACE where he had a 5 place grid penalty to take!!
In general, I know Cheating Bad but. I HAVE to admire the brainpower it must take to have the rulebook so memorized that whilst driving an F1 car Schumi could spot a loophole the size of the eye of a needle and then dance through it, forcing the FIA to add ANOTHER page to the rule book specially for him bc nobody else even REALISED that loophole existed.
Tumblr media
Human Moments
A quick rant about Mika and Schumi’s entire friendship. After Spa 2000 Mika goes up to Michael, says something like “Don’t ever do that again” then they’re friends again. They had this mutual understanding that Racing was not Reality. This goes all the way back to their F3 days they were rivals AND friends for their entire career. They truly were the Sewis of the era if Sebastian was like 50% more evil. Their entire dynamic is “You’re the only motherfucker in this pit lane who can handle me”. Schumi would do some bullshit and every other driver would throw up their hands in frustration and Mika would just go “Okay” and drive better to put him in his place bc he was the only one who could keep up, and Schumi very visibly LOVED that he’s grinning after Mika owns his entire ass with that overtake at Spa. They were unstoppable force meets immovable object and I’m so sad their rivalry isn’t more talked about bc the way Mika is the only driver who can get him to behave like a normal human being is SO entertaining.
This is a sad one so I won’t link it but he started crying in the 2000 Monza press-conference with his brother and Mika when he equaled one of Senna’s records. The press kept trying to ask questions about it and Mika just has this death grip on his shoulder and tries to get them to stop or let them take a break and it’s so sad but also important to know about.
Once said he didn’t want Mick to race in F1 bc the pressure of his name would put Mick under so much stress and he wanted his son to be happy. (He fully supported Mick in his endeavors! But only after making absolutely sure it was what Mick wanted, and making sure he knew he could just race for fun if he wanted and it didn’t have to be F1)
This whole interview just after Mick was born with the Schumacher family. Special shout out to Gina on his head the entire video and also Corinna talking to the press while Michael is captivated by Mick. Me too Michael.
Once allegedly pleaded to take a stray kitten home from the track?
I reblogged this yesterday but. Sticking like glue to Sebastian at an F1 test and immediately being like “This is my new son he’s gonna go far”. There’s a lot of pictures out there also of Michael being a guest at the karting races Seb went to as a kid and baby Seb visibly losing his fucking mind at being given a trophy by his idol. Every day of my life I think about him trying to ruffle Seb’s hair through his helmet at Brazil 2012
WInning the championship in 2000. Him thanking the entire team individually and pausing mid-celebration to kiss his wife Corinna so tenderly it’s in the F1 opening. Also, the way it literally cuts from the rest of McLaren looking like they’re attending a funeral to Mika grinning at him and hugging him fucking SENDSSSSS me.
Schumi was a little shit in all the 2010-12 press conferences like, lowering Lewis’ chair, playing with a microphone wire, but ESPECIALLY corrupting baby Seb and getting him to mess with Nico Rosberg.
He’s just GOOFY! Like I refuse to let him be remembered as a terrifying force of nature he was so goofy kind of similarly to Seb. PLEASE watch this incredibly awkward interview he did with Coulthard on a golf buggy where they both had to pretend they hadn’t thought about murdering each other at least once. I think Sky F1 should force Brocedes to do this when covid’s over. “Do you mind if I drive?” “Yes.”
EDIT: I CANNOT BELIEVE I forgot the 1999 Canada press conference where Eddie Irvine and Mika Hakkinen get into a water fight and Schumi immediately grabs a towel and hides behind it and is like “I had NOTHING to do with it” 🥺 adorable, actually
A lot of people at Ferrari, including Rob Smedley (who was on the other side of the garage with Felipe Massa so not in his inner circle) have said that a lot of the success of the team came from Schumi’s LEADERSHIP more than anything, that he’d make the team get together to bond all the time. When Schumi moved to Ferrari in 1996 they were NOT dominant. He did the same thing Lewis did - went to a team that everybody said would be a huge mistake and helped build them up behind the scenes.
THIS bit of the Canada 2011 Rewind where his engineer gives him the strategy and he’s like “... OkaAaAaAay?” and then when it turns out to be the wrong strategy he cheerfully tells them it’s too late. Little shit.
Speaking of Mercedes I also wanna say that like. They were a MESS in 2012 and his car DNF’d because of a failing on their part MULTIPLE times. (In Canada qualifying his DRS was stuck open and they couldn’t close it.) He did not say a single bad word about them EVER even though the press used this to attack him non-stop as washed-up and bad without Ferrari to cheat for him. At Ferrari he was the exact same with the team, any bastard antics Schumi had for his rivals did not extend to the engineers and crew.
OK this one is soured bc Top Gear is trash BUT if you were like, a kid in England who followed motorsports? Schumi’s fake reveal as The Stig on Top Gear was like the coolest, sickest thing,
Please view this image of Schumi and Mika when they were young and stupid

Iconic Races
ok so I have limited myself to a few races that show off some of his key strengths!
Hungary 1998 / France 2004 - STRATEGY/SPEED - Schumi switched to a 3 stop strategy in 98 and a FOUR STOP strategy in 04 and won both races. In order for the strategy call to work he’d have to basically make every single lap a qualifying style ‘flying lap’ and you best fucking believe he DID THAT. God I fucking miss when Ferrari was the king of strategy.
Argentina 1998 -  has it all. Talent, battling Mika, pit lane mind games with mclaren, and bullying coulthard xxx
Spain 1996 / a majority of the wet races - RAIN - One of Schumi’s nicknames was Rain Master bc he was so fucking good in the wet. If it started raining and you were a Schumi stan you were cackling evilly before the red lights even went out. I single out 1996 bc it was his first win for Ferrari and it was unexpected but in most wet races, even Canada 2011 post comeback, you can see Schumi thriving.
Malaysia 1999 - Schumi missed pretty much the entire second half of the season with a broken leg, came back for the last 2 races with everybody murmuring about whether he would struggle, and immediately put the Ferrari on pole. Also worth noting is that he was the number 2 driver for these 2 races bc his teammate Irvine was fighting Mika for the championship and he went along with that without complaint, allowing Ferrari to win the constructor’s championship if not the driver’s.
Monza 2002, 03, 04, or 06 just because it has the energy of the tifosi kneeling at the feet of an idol to their red god.
Brazil 2006 - Fuck All Y’all - Schumi’s last race for Ferrari. He got a puncture and ended up almost lapped, and then drove his way back from that to 4th bc he couldn’t go out without reminding us he’s a bad bitch.
Monza 2012 - Defending - Don’t tell F1 Twitter that there’s actual footage of Lewis and Michael having a genuine lengthy battle on track but DO watch Michael defending like a motherfucker and Lewis breathing down his neck for half the race we need to talk about this more.
Valencia 2012 - This isn’t necessarily anything special but I cried in my living room over the only podium of his comeback so it goes on here. It doesn’t have the same impact if you haven’t been watching him struggle with the car for years, DNF-ing from car failure most of 2012, and having BBC F1 telling you he’s washed up every single weekend, but you can just enjoy one of the best drives of FERNANDO’S entire career as he DRAGS that Ferrari by its hair to a home grand prix win and then watch the crowds embrace him like jesus and also Schumi being happy on the podium. Also, the very start of this clip from the press conference: him forgetting what language he’s supposed to be speaking
Basically, Schumi was a hyper-competitive ambitious bitch who turned into a goofball as soon as he switched the engine off. This is by NO MEANS everything if I was making an exhaustive best races guide I’d do more research and another post but I hope this is what you were looking for?? THANK YOU SO MUCH for letting me go MAXIMUM SPECIAL INTEREST and I apologize.

Meg Masters
-First impression: she looks like she's going to wreck havoc. I like her.
-Impression now: MOST WASTED CHARACTER IN SPN. AND AGAIN. THAT'S SAYING SOMETHING. LOL. I luv her and feel unexpectedly ~soft for her. What shipping does to a mf, I guess.
-Favorite moment: her speech in 7x21.
"Look, I'm simpler than you think. I've figured one thing out about this world –just one, pretty much. You find a cause, and you serve it. Give yourself over, and it orders your life. Lucifer and Yellow Eyes – their mission was it for me. [...] I'm talking "cause," douchebag, as in reason to get up in the morning. Obviously, these things shift over time. We learn, we grow. Now, for me currently, the cause is bringing down the King. And I know we'll need help to do it. [...] When are you gonna get it? Crowley's always the problem. He's just waiting for the right moment to strike. I know what I'm supposed to do. And it isn't screw with Sam and Dean, or lose the only angel who'd go to bat for me." (after that last sentence Castiel smiles all flustered asñdlfkajsdf).
-Idea for a story: again, like with Bela just now, these are the WIPs in my list with Meg in a central role.
Megstiel Role Reversal series.
Megstiel in the Endverse.
Megstiel s7 missing scenes.
Meg s9 recovery AU.
Megstiel time travel (idk what I want to do with it exactly but I'd like it to somehow explore Meg in her pre-demon days AND include 1901!Castiel in a female vessel. Maybe I'll write two stories xDDD).
I want to write some Castiel/Meg/Sam ot3 fic at some point.
And thanks to the fandom I have a very specific plotbunny/itch for Castiel/Meg/Mick.
Megstiel Orpheus & Eurydice post-series.
She'll also feature in the Belastiel AU (shortly), the Ruby Lives Series, and the Ruby's Terror Twins Series. At the least xD
-Unpopular opinion: my otp is Megstiel, that's unpopular enough xDD. Oh, and I don't think she and Ruby are similar or would like each other (respect some of their abilities, yes. Think the other is insufferable and goes against what they stand for? Also yes xD). AND, Dean and her have so little in common I always roll my eyes when I see her included in the list of Dean "mirror" characters.
-Favorite relationship: Megstiel. Shocker, I know xD.
-Favorite headcanon: I think her crossroads deal was made remarkably young and on behalf of somebody else.

Cousin Trap
Can read on Ao3 here
Anne Boleyn and Catalina Aragon have a lot of things in common. Among those, they are both smart, accomplished women, they both dated the same man, Henry Tudor, and they absolutely loathe each other. These are all things they are both aware of. But there is another matter that connects them and that they don’t know anything about: they both love to death their younger cousins....and said cousins are dating.
For months Katherine Howard and Catherine Parr had been unaware of the fact themselves.
How was Cathy supposed to even start to suspect that the Annie her girlfriend always talked about with nothing but pure love was ‘that Boleyn girl’ - and yes, she hears it in her mind in the same tone Catalina usually spits it out?
How was Kat supposed to connect Cathy’s Lina, the cousin who used to teach her Spanish swearwords when she was a kid and is now almost a maternal figure to her, with ‘Catherine, that massive *insert chosen insult of the day*’ Anne still complains about, even if it has been years since they have last seen each other?
‘And you know, it’s funny. Because her surname is literally Aragon and she is from there.’
Kat abruptly stops laughing along with Cathy. ‘Aragon? Your...Lina is Catherine Aragon?’
‘Catalina.’ Cathy corrects her. ‘It annoys her when people use the English version. That’s not her name.’ She stops. She heard it so many times that she could repeat Lina’s spiel word by word, but that’s probably not the point. ‘But yes? Why?’
‘Annie. My cousin,’ Cathy nods to show she is following. Of course she knows who Annie is. She met her. Scarily smart and scarily funny, once you get over her being scarily protective of Kat. Not that Cathy faults her for it. ‘Anne Boleyn.’
‘What?’
‘My cousin is Anne Boleyn.’ Kat repeats, much to Cathy’s horror, who had been hoping she had misunderstood.
---
‘So, let me see if I got it right.’ Anna looks at her two friends. ‘Your cousins, the ones who are basically your big sisters slash mother figures and would totally kill for you, hate each other.’
Cathy and Kat nod.
‘And they don’t know you are dating? Even if you have been together for…what is it? Four years?’
‘Yes.’
‘How is that even possible?’ That’s the part Anna is most confused about.
‘Well, they never met.’
‘Yes, but they met you!’ Anna gestures to them. She remembers Kat stressing out about meeting Cathy’s Lina for the first time, worrying that she would not make a good impression on someone who was so important for her girlfriend. And she also remembers Cathy telling her about her meeting with Anne and the shovel talk she got. Hell, Anna has met Anne herself!
‘Yes. And they know about Annie and Lina.’
‘Not about that Boleyn girl and Catherine Aragon.’ Cathy picks up Kat's explanation.
‘What about photos?’ Just from her armchair Anna can see at least four pictures on the shelves with Anne and Kat, Cathy and Catalina, and even one of both her friends with Anne.
‘We hide them.’ That had not been a problem until they had moved in together, but once they took that step and they had their first visit...that’s what they did.
‘And you don’t plan to tell them?’
‘Nope.’
‘How is this even going to work? Won't they meet at a certain point?’
‘We alternate for the holidays and stuff. One time at Lina’s, one at Anne’s. Or with them, anyway. No reason for them to meet.’
‘So what? You’re going to wait until your wedding day and have them see each other there?’
‘We discussed it and we feel no need to get married, so...’
Anna shakes her head. Unbelievable.
---
‘You!’ A twin exclamation. Had their hands not been loaded with bags, they would have totally pointed the finger at each other.
‘What are you doing here?’
‘What are you doing here?
‘I asked first.’
If Anne wants to do this in the middle of the street, Catalina will not back down. ‘Visiting family, not that you’d know anything about that.’
Anne ignores the low blow. Her fraught relationship with her family has always been a sore spot, and Catalina knows it very well.
‘What do you think you’re doing?’ Catalina stops her from ringing the bell, covering it with her hand.
‘Old age getting to you?’ Anne hits back, Catalina’s age – specifically her being older than Henry and consequently also than Anne – being one of the excuses he had used to dump her for Anne. ‘What do you think?’ before adding, ‘Hoping to be saved from having to breath the same air as you for much longer.’
‘You got the wrong house.’
‘And how do you know that?’
‘This is where I’m going.’
‘Impossible. This is where I am going.’
’My cousin lives here.’
‘My cousin lives here.’
They glare at each other.
‘Let’s settle it.’ Anne rings the doorbell.
‘Eager to be proven wrong, aren’t you?’ Catalina scoffs. ‘Let's hear it.  What would your cousin’s name be?’
‘What’s yours?’
They stare at each other silently as if challenging the other to speak first. Tension builds as the standoff continues.
‘Catherine.’
‘Katherine.’
They say at the same time, then stiffen. Is it all a big joke for the other? Is she taking the mick? They look ready to attack when they have a light-bulb moment. Realisation dawns.
‘No!’
‘Sorry, it took me so long, I’m not feeling my best-’ the door opens fully, ‘What are you doing here?’
‘Oh querida,’ Catalina breaths out. Cathy looks...rough. ‘Let me in, don’t stand there in the cold.’ She gently pushes her way in, ignoring how Anne follows her and focusing on Cathy. ‘Have you been to the doctor? Have you been eating? Let me whip up something for you.’ She doesn’t really wait for a reply, moving towards the living room, Cathy trailing behind her wordlessly, shocked and exhausted. ‘How is Kat?’
Right then a scratchy voice calls out. ‘Cathy?’
That seems to jolt Anne out of whatever trance she was in. In three quick steps she is by Catalina’s side and trying to enter the room first.
‘Who was at the door?’ The question is barely finished when the coughing starts, the cocoon on the couch from where the voice came from convulsing. Then a pale face with flushed cheeks from the effort emerges.
‘Katie!’ Anne is immediately by her side.
‘What are you doing here?’
‘That seems to be the question of the hour.’ Catalina mutters while watching, almost captivated, Anne taking Kat’s face in her hands, tilting it up, and resting her cheek on her forehead. ‘Still got a fever. Have you been throwing up? Have you taken anything? Do you want me to run to the pharmacy? Cathy, you need anything?’
‘Annie.’ Kat blinks up at her. ‘Slow down.’
‘Right. Sorry.’ Anne sits back on her haunches.
Cathy joins Kat on the couch, Kat wordlessly lifting the blanket and wrapping Cathy in.
‘That would look adorable if you both didn’t look so terrible.’
‘I haven’t looked at a mirror in forever, but if I look half as bad as I feel...I have no doubts.’ Kat comments.
‘Why are you here?’ Cathy is too tired and sick to care about politeness. Besides, that’s the good thing about close family, isn’t it? No need to sugar-coat and maintain a polite façade when you feel like crap.
‘You call, telling me that you’re both violently sick and you expect what? For me to just stay home knowing there is no one to help you here because all your friends left for the break and you’re in no state to help each other?’
‘As much as I hate to agree with her,’ Anne reaches up to brush some hair away from Kat’s clammy face. ‘You know I’d drop anything if you needed me. And in this case, I already had the days off anyway...’
‘You’re going to get sick too.’
Anne smiles at her cousin’s thoughtfulness. ‘That’s a risk I’m willing to run.’
Catalina clearly agrees, as she puts on the kettle and puts together some light sandwiches after Cathy mentions it’s time for them to take their medicines.
As they are all sitting down having tea, Anne broaches the subject. ‘When were you thinking of telling me about...her?’ She sends a dirty look towards Catalina, who doesn’t hesitate to return it.
Still, they don’t miss the look Cathy and Kat exchange. And the silence is telling enough.
‘So, what? What was the plan? Wait until your wedding day for me to see her showing up at the reception?’
‘I will totally walk Kat down the aisle or whatever they decide to do.’
‘Marriage is not really in the plans, so...not really?’ Cathy says at the same time.
Anne turns to her, hard look in her eyes. ‘Why not? Kat not good enough for you?’
‘Because we talked about it and marriage is not a thing we see in our future.’ Kat stops her before she can get riled up on her behalf…absolutely unnecessarily.
Anne gives a begrudging nod. Overprotectiveness aside, it's not completely surprising considering their family’s history. Still, they will be revisiting the topic, once Kat is better.
‘Don’t get me wrong,’ Cathy hesitantly starts after they had been sitting for a while, ‘I’m not kicking you out or anything. You can stay as long as you want. Both of you. But before we get too dozy from the medicine...where are you staying?’ They have learned the hard way that what they are taking hit them both quite strongly. They found stuff in weird places they didn’t remember having put them in. Which is way better that waking up on the bathroom floor, presumably after one of them threw up but without remembering who was the one who got sick, bodies hurting even more from sleeping in a weird position on a cold, hard floor.
‘Here?’ Anne and Catalina look at each other as they say the same thing at the same time. They narrow their eyes in challenge.
‘You know we’re always happy to have you here,’ both had stayed over before, ‘but do you remember that there is just one guest room, right?’
‘She can sleep on the couch.’ Anne beats Catalina to the punch.
‘You can sleep on the couch!’ Catalina rebuts.
‘Why? Your old back can’t take it?’ Anne snipes. ‘If you admit so, I might be generous enough to leave you the bed.’
Kat’s coughing fit, albeit involuntarily, comes at the perfect moment.
‘Actually,’ Cathy takes advantage of the interruption as she rubs Kat's back, ‘you can’t use the couch, I’m afraid.’ She grimaces, whether it is because of what she is saying or because her girlfriend is currently trying to hack up a lung not clear. ‘If one of us is up at night, to avoid waking the other, we move out here. But if one of you is sleeping here...’
‘Of course.’ ‘You don’t have to apologise.’ Both women reassure her.
‘So either one of you stays and the other stays at a hotel-’
‘Her.’
‘Not me.’
They glare at each other.
‘Or you can share the room. It’s a queen size bed, as you know.’
---
‘Cathy?’
They had retired to their room, medicine having its predicted effect, leaving the older women to settle down in the guest room. And probably take over the house and everything else, if their bickering about groceries and cleaning is any indication.
‘We don’t really use the couch.’ Kat points out. They are out cold at night, the power of drugs. So far they have only woke up for coughing fits or to throw up… which tends to wake the other, and they would not have it any other way. And at that point they prefer to stay together, cuddling in bed and waiting for sleep to come...they are both sick anyway, not like it can get any worse.
‘I know.’
‘Then why?’ Kat looks adorably confused in her drowsiness.
‘So they’ll be forced to get along.’
‘Or kill each other.’
‘But that would make us sad, and they know it, so they won’t.’
Kat nods. That sounds reasonable. Then she squints at Cathy. ‘Are you...cousin trapping them? You know, like The Parent Trap movie but with cousin because they are our cousins?’
Cathy smiles dopily at the over explanation. Kat tends to ramble when she is tired.
‘Or trope-ing them.’
‘What?’
‘You know, there was only one bed. Or,’ Kat’s scrunched up face lets her know she is not following her, so Cathy continues, ‘and they were roommates.’
The response is automatic, no need to even engage the brain. ‘Oh my God! They were roommates!’
