eggson au metal!! he's built by robotnik when sonic is about 9 to be a protector and companion, so he's basically sonic's little brother

more doodles and notes below the cut :]

he has two of sonic's quills set into his forehead which are used as a secondary power source. they also grant him sonic's electricity powers (which is when his lights turn blue), but if he uses this too much it literally breaks him :') sonic thought this was v funny when it first happened. otherwise he pretty much has the same abilities as regular metal sonic, along with his "mind" essentially being stored in robotnik's cloud, so that even if his body is completely destroyed, he's fine. i'm sure everything is stored correctly and nothing corrupts. don't worry about it.

even though sonic and metal consider each other brothers their relationship is... strained to say the least kdjhkfg. while they would fight viciously to protect each other, they each hold a lot of resentment for the other. sonic has always felt he had to fight for his dad's attention over the other robots, so he thought he was being replaced when metal was created. on the flipside, metal started out content, but eventually grew to feel that his abilities were being wasted just protecting sonic. despite this, they do grow close and sonic helps convince robotnik that metal should have more freedom in his programming, and metal will happily go along with whatever bullshit sonic likes to come up with. so. they're basically just normal siblings LOL. they have each other's back but will throw the other through a wall when they're angry. y'know how it is.
