Mozzie's day to shine

Next month will mark what would have been Willie Garson's 60th birthday. It will also mark our celebration of Willie's special day in the form of our third annual Mozzie Mania.

As with our other creative events, this one is open to any type of fan creation, and the only requirement is that Mozzie is a major focus of the work. Oh, and if you're playing bingo with us, you're free to use one of your card prompts to make something about Moz. (And if you're not playing bingo, would you like to?) There will be an AO3 collection (Mozzie Mania 2024, unrevealed until Feb. 20th) where you can post most types of work, and please remember to tag us when you share via socials.

Also, as we've done the past couple of years, we'll also be using this event as a way to help continue Willie's legacy by supporting You Gotta Believe, a foster care organization that was near and dear to his heart. For each of the first 25 Mozzie Mania entries, we'll be donating $5 to the Willie Garson Fund at YGB, which was established after his passing. And though we know money's tight all over these days, if you've got even a couple of bucks to spare, we'd encourage you to donate whatever you can on February 20th. We should see how many individual donations we could generate on Willie's birthday!

And that's it, simple as pie. It's our annual day to have lots of Mozzie fun!

For the Lestat Birthday Bingo event held by @vampirefest I posted the third chapter of my fic Anatomy of a Love Seen. This is for prompt The Performer/Actor/Rockstar. The first day of reshoots is not going well. Louis seeks refuge on a balcony, overhears a conversation, and has a sighting that makes him think of the good times with Lestat. Armand spirals into mania.

Writing Reflection

Finding JBB was a revelation, and very much accounted for our absolute mania in July. We now have a delightful collection of 700+ bingo prompts spread across too many boards to remember, and it's giving us so much motivation! We've started foraying into works written more for us, though, so we 100% expect less engagement over the next twleve months... But that's okay, because writing them has been an absolute delight.

The goal of this year is to finish the current four WIPS mentioned above! And hoooooopefully hit 500,000 words again... Though there's also a novel we should start. Oops.

There's something important to be said, though. The most important thing, for us, that came out of this year wasn't the words. It was the very specific, 'pretty prevelant' commenter that found Multitudes a third of the way through after looking for something different. This... Amazing, beautiful person, making great statements of philosophy and shrewd insights through a computer screen at three am (leading us to wonder "Are you okay or do you need therapy-"). This person who Lia adorably demanded become our friend, and subsequently, we fell head over heels in love with. What's 153 miles (or ~207, given I'm not a crow) when you find the person - or rather, people - you've been looking for? @unfortunatebeetleandfriends Our Bug, our beloved... We can't wait to see you again. We will love you as long as we live. Lieutenant, Yoshitsune - y'all were unexpected, but just as much as a goddamn blessing, and we'll see you in 16 days and 22 hours. All of our love, forever and always, infinitely and endlessly. Thank you for deciding to backscroll.

Ok @bimbomcgee prepare for my rambling as well xD (YOU SUMMONED THIS!!)

Man, I really just turned him into an OC, didn’t I? His in-game lore implications are great, but let’s be real, we have no clue what his character is and the wide fandom interpretation of him being a blood-drunk Annalise simp is probably the closest thing we’ll get to a somewhat canonical character.

But omg I love him. I love his design, his potential…his unnatural strength in the game and his possible links to other characters. I love characterizing and writing him despite his mystery.

Though I’ll admit, sometimes I feel like my design for him is just like:

LOL. Could this be the secret formula??? Hear me out!

He has the classic silver-haired, green-eyed, katana-wielding, anime villain with the black wing (s) vibe all over him + he is simping for a powerful inhuman queen/goddess and he’s…also completely out of his mind?? This one isn’t entirely my fault though because I’m sorry but Miyazaki is about as subtle as a brick with his external references.

But Jinx from Arcane is, oddly enough, a huge bit of inspo for me personally. I love her. She is a modern video game character that very accurately depicts psychosis and mania in a way that makes perfect sense, and when I decided that Luther was gonna be someone that descended into insanity…I found Jinx to be a fabulous reference. Plus, we have the sibling drama, the adoptive parent drama, and the unhinged gunslinging thing going on so…yeah.

Luther is also just his own character at this point too though. I can’t control the bastard. He just keeps getting weirder and gaining layers. I get to develop him by exploring his relationship with Maria, sometimes with Eileen more-so, and with Annalise as well….but my boi just keeps turning into this crazily overwhelming character in my head.

Just trying to plan out his transformation from a sweet, sensitive kid that is eager to please and looks up to certain people in his life with massive affection to someone that is manic, unbridled and hateful towards humanity in general is incredibly daunting, but I love the challenge.

I have to dig through the layers of his twisted psyche and make. it. make. sense. His downfall has to be perfectly woven into the canon territory and something that would actually fit with FromSoft’s style of writing. It has to be an absolute gut-punch, but also I want his Bloody Crow persona to be so villainous and cruel that we know he is truly long gone by that point.

It’s so fun and dramatic. No wonder he rots my brain 24/7. I am studying a villain arc with some pretty serious dedication.

And I wish, I wish, I wish the fandom would not just focus on how much they hate his fight all the time or characterize him as a petulant loser or a cliche vampire villain shnjdhnjs but hey, he did piss everyone off quite a bit and I get it. I just love heartfelt takes on him when I find them and I need moreeee.

I guess in the mean time, I’ll just keep screaming about him from my corner xD

But Bim!!! The fact that you like him and my propaganda for the stabby lil guy makes me so happy!! YOU ARE A REAL ONE M8!

walked my dog

ran an errand to get my medicine (another black girl told my my hair is beautiful 😭 feeling highly blessed bc i was convinced it was a mess today)

ran an errand to give my dad a belated present

talked to my dad for 2 hours and didnt have a meltdown

ran to dunkin for a drink

ran to the grocery store to pick up a few things

read a book to cross off an item on owned TBR list challenge from The Server - hated it but i read it

sewed in lining partially for my friend's bag that i made

listened to an audiobook that just happens to be on the book bingo challenge sheet i made for myself

listened to Media Club Plus

made breakfast

made dinner

made the snack i posted earlier

filled out interview questions

this was the most ive been out on errands in almost 2 years. maybe 2 full years. the most ive driven my car in almost 2 years. possibly tbe most ive been on my feet. and i feel okay. i still dont want to hope im getting better. im scared this is just feeling okay for now. im scared ill go back to how i was. that i'll regress. im scared that this isnt progress at all that its a fluke. and thats the thing is: my CFS isnt going away. even if im going into remission something could trigger it years down the line and i could get sick again. i have to live my life constantly cautious from now on.

i wanted to do work today but seeing my dad took a lot out of me mentally. we talked about some heavy topics (my mental illness, my chronic illnesses, scratched the surface of my financial trauma that he partially inflicted on me) and like. idk. i dont think my dad knows how crazy i am. he had like an expression of fear??? almost??? when i told him (only slightly!!!) what mania is like and wbhat psychosis is like and that i still get delusions like that time this january i cut myself off from almost everyone for a week because i was convinced i was being shunned by everyone. or that time several years back i was up til 4am tearing apart the apartment and ranting trying to find the source of a smell that didnt exist in the space (burning cinnamon). like im delulu. ive made my peace with it and look at my irrationality with a fondness now. but im delulu. and always will be.

anyway i dont think he ever bothered trying to understand what bipolar disorder and chronic illness was until now, when he retired. idk something changed after his first year of retirement, its like he actually listens to me talk aboht my experiences instead of like reminding me over snd over that my birth parents gave me up and didnt want me and constantly bringing up my childhood instead of talking about my life now. hes less exhausting now is what im saying. still get flashbacks from seeing him tho.

tldr: i djd a lot. idk how to feel abt it. im scared to hope. today was mentally draining.

ship bingo, worfzia and/or kiradax

oooo ships I have nuanced opinions on ok so Worfzia:

I love both characters So Much and their relationship is So Adorable but I'm also at least 70% sure they'd have a really messy divorce or at least come very close to it over issues such as parenting styles, how much of Jadzia's Klingon interest is a Curzon holdover, adherence to religion and general tradition, and the concept of monogamy.

Their personal growth has been headed in different directions - Worf from anger -> stoic repression -> calm, Jadzia from stoic repression -> playful mania -> repressing it in Different ways to adapt to Worf's repression.

They could absolutely work all those issues out, or they could just piss each other off intensely. Or one of them could die tragically and leave the other wondering why this keeps happening. I guess.

Anyway!

Kiradax:

So I used to really dislike Kiradax (mostly just cause I didn't get it), but now I Do like it but in a character insight sort of way where it is reciprocated but nothing is done about it.

Actually similar to Worfzia, they're just going in different directions. Kira starts off constantly in fight or flight (occupation trauma response, can't quite accept that there's now the possibility of a "post" to her lifelong traumatic stress), then realises that she fought because she had to but prefers diplomacy and peace. Jadzia is very self assured and pretty mentally stable throughout her own journey, but then Ezri is an anxious mess (affectionate) with strong opinions and less than complete certainty whose those are. Ezri and early seasons Kira would Absolutely have been able to have a good relationship. But by the time Ezri comes along, Kira has her life together and wouldn't benefit from that - and I think she'd feel weird about whether or not that's respecting Jadzia's memory.

Also I don't think early seasons Kira would date an alien, and that's So valid of her. Embracing her own culture has been (at least) borderline illegal her entire life, she really needed someone both challenging of her worldview and also Bajoran, like Bareil.

So yeah. Somewhat bittersweet, I don't think they could/should get together, but their chemistry is so lovely I wish they could have met at the right time :(

Eee! Thank you!

Dang, closest I got to BINGO was a few 3s.

I cannot even tell you the insane prednisone-fueled mania I felt in my body waking up from a half-remembered fever dream in college and having to write this down. The first two chapters ripped their way out of me. 20k words in 2 days. Pure insanity. And honestly, I just really wanted the EVIL.
