A Little bit Broken- Vanessa Ives

A/N: Hey, I hope this is close enough to what you wanted, there wasn’t much to go off of aside from the angst so I took some creative liberties.

Warning(s): Alluding to smut.

I hadn’t wanted to believe that Vanessa had fallen so quickly and irreversibly into despair but when the proofs staring right back at you, there’s not much of an argument you can muster to try and convince yourself otherwise.

I’d tried to leave her be, to give her time and space. Even though my heart and mind kept fighting against my decision, I loved her and I would do anything for her even if it meant leaving her for some time.

Yet when I’d received a private letter from Mr Lyles and he’d told me of the state of Vanessa, I couldn’t believe, I didn’t want to believe it but deep I knew what the letter contained was true and it had broken me leaving me in tears.

I’d only received the letter an hour ago in the late evening, it was now terribly late and dark but I couldn’t wait until the morning to see her and to hold and make sure she was safe.

I had to force my way through the back door the kitchen, it had been stuck and the handle would barely move. At the time I couldn’t tell whether the door had been locked or whether it had some how sealed itself shut in the two weeks that I’d left Vanessa to herself.

Now I stood bare the stairwell, I’d just walked through the living room that had letters and papers scattered across floor and dust had seemed to be as common in the as oxygen.

Looking at the hallway and the grand stairs, things didn’t look anymore promising. The floor no longer held a clean sheen of polish or its dark mahogany colour, instead it was almost black with some sort of dirt and dust, everything seemed to be in a desperate need of care.

But that was all beside the point, I wasn’t hear to worry about the state of the house or it’s decor, my mine and only concern was the woman that I knew would be hiding upstairs in her room, hiding herself away from the world.

It took me a minute to gather the strength I knew I would need to be able to face her. What had become in the weeks I’d left her alone, had she been eating? Drinking? Sleeping? I knew I wasn’t going to get the answers to any of those questions, until I braved the stairs upwards.

And so I did, lifting the skirts of my dress I took one step at a time, not to certain of the security of the stairs, considering the state of the rest of the house, I knew it wouldn’t hurt to be cautious.

Once I’d made it to the top of the stairs I began to walk down the darkened hallway that I’d mesmerised by heart, my final destination being the last room at the end of it.

At first I walked at a somewhat cautious and silent pace, not wanting to alarm the ravenette I knew was here.

“Vanessa!” I called out to the silence of the corridor, a few seconds past and no reply came but then I heard a loud bang and then crash and sound of shattered glass penetrated my senses and I didn’t even have to think twice before break out into a sprint to her room.

It didn’t even take me ten seconds to reach the end of the corridor and into Vanessa room, to where I heard the shattered glass. My eyes darted quickly around the room and then they landed on their target.

She was there, disheveled but alive and suddenly a wave of relief washed over me, and as my face broke out into a wide smile and my eyes began to water with tears, I took a step forward to run to her and embrace her.

But then I stopped myself, my eyes quickly caught the glimpse of shattered glass that was lying on the floor next to the writing desk Vanessa was sat at.

I might have scared her when I called and she must have accidentally knocked the gas lamp off her desk and it must have smashed upon impact.

“Vanessa I…” I began to say but then I stopped myself when she looked at me, her eyes locking with mine and their usual bright blue that always seemed as if they were sapphires, were now a dull version of what they once were, clouded and glassed over and I almost struggled to read her expression.

“What are you doing here?” She’d spoken to me but her voice was almost lifeless, almost bleak sounding and my heart broke at not only the tone of her voice but also the question she’d asked me.

It was so blatant and sharp, did she not want me here? Had I don’t something wrong? My mind began to reel with all these questions and suddenly an anger I didn’t know I had began to let itself loose.

“What am I doing here? What do you mean what am I doing here? I’m here for you!” I started to shout, I didn’t want and I’m not sure where it came from but suddenly I was angry and upset all at once.

“I didn’t ask you to be here,” she responded back, her voice colder than before, louder and almost steel like.

She continued to stare at me, only now she was getting up from her seat at her writing desk. She wasn’t wearing an awful lot, just a simple black, almost sleeveless dress. And then some of questions began to be answered.

I could quickly see she hadn’t been eating properly, she hadn’t been starving herself, from what I can see but she’d certainly lost some weight. Her face was a little more hollowed and her hair didn’t seem to have been brushed in several days and suddenly that anger I had was stunning into a rage but it was a caring rage.

“You didn’t have to, I got a letter of Lyles and ran out of my home as quickly as I could.” I began to explain the bite was still in my voice. “I was hoping what he said wasn’t true, that you weren’t letting your self perish in a hellhole, it seems my hope was stupid.”

I stood closer to her, now only a foot or two away. There were so many things I wanted to do, I wanted to scream and shout her for what she’d done to herself, I wanted to take her downstairs and make her eat a proper meal but then I wanted to pour her an nice bath and sit with her and wash her hair and just take of her.

“What did you expect!” She shouted and screamed at me and suddenly I wanted to jump out of my skin and walk away. I’d never heard her about like this before and it scared me, more so than the demons and witches that had plagued us for so long.

“Everyone’s gone, Ethan’s off to the American gallows, Malcolm’s burying his dead children and you were tortured and almost killed and it’s all my fault!” She screamed again and suddenly tears were falling quickly down her cheeks and she began to shake in her spot standing on the floor.

All of it was true, Ethan had been shipped, Malcolm was burying his dead sun and I had almost died but none of that was Vanessa’s fault. We’d all made our own choices and we new that going into this, she couldn’t and shouldn’t blame herself.

“How is any of it your fault? We all made our choices Van and we chose to stand by you, at least I did, I love you!” She knew I loved and she exactly how much and the. Suddenly the tears became less and her eyes darkened and suddenly she was running towards me.

Her lips crashed upon mine and suddenly I was kissing her back. Her normally soft lips were now harsh and rough and I couldn’t tell whether this was out of passion, anger, lust or a mix of all three.

Then before I could understand it, I had accepted it and soon we were pulling each other free of the clothes that confined us both.

Though as Vanessa was trying to get my corset off, I stopped her movements and looked at her. “Why now?”

“I’ve missed you and I can’t bare the thought of not being near you for a moment longer.” It was a simple answer but it was good enough for me and as such I allowed her to continue unlacing my corset and soon we were spending the rest of the night together entertained in each others bodies, enjoying the intimacy of one another.

The urban legend that Marisa Tomei didn't "really" win her Oscar for My Cousin Vinny is bad for lots of reasons. I mean it was made up entirely by Rex Reed, who you may remember from saying The Shape of Water was directed by Benicio del Toro and claiming Get Out is about black men being turned into robots, so that's reason #1 right there

But also if you look at the category, it...actually makes sense that she won

Only one film up for Best Picture (Howards End) was nominated here & typically the legend is that Vanessa Redgrave "really" won, but she already won before in this category and her film won Best Actress. Oscar voters don't commonly select the same film for two acting categories and are stingy about giving someone a second award. This leaves us with another costume drama, a Woody Allen film, a film with no other nominations, and...

A extremely memorable, widely praised, comedic performance that was already one of the most famous of the year, and has remained famous thirty years later. More famous than any of these other performances. Heck, just the fact that a comedy performance was nominated made her likely to win, since that showed a lot of support outside the Prestige Cage of Oscar votedom

This was the year Al Pacino's "whoops, sorry for snubbing you for your good movies, here's your Oscar for a worse one" Oscar was won, over Denzel Washington for Malcolm X, and they focus on...this?

Like of all the forgotten roles to get Oscars, this is the one to get hit with rumors? All out of people livid that a comedy won an award? On the word of someone who uses his reviews to bash actresses for their weight and who scorns disabled actors playing disabled characters as "not really acting"? Okay.

Lincoln High football players read to kids at Malcolm X Library

Day II Day Foundation and Reading Legacies teamed up for the youth reading sessions.

Two nonprofit organizations teamed up to give high school athletes the opportunity to highlight their skills from the classroom while contributing to the community.

As ABC 10News continues to highlight the importance of literacy, our team introduces you to the new role models for kids at the Malcolm X Library.

"I took my python to the library, but she shed her skin all over the pictures books... Do you like snakes? I don't like snakes!" a high school athlete said to the children.

The books Lincoln High School football payers read aloud to kids at the library are fictional, but the excitement and joy of reading hour is real.

"Being able to build a relationship with kids away from football, being part of these kids' life, it's something they'll remember forever," Lincoln High student Jerome Roberts said.

Roberts and his fellow teammates have been reading to kids at the Malcolm X Library since January.

"There's this one kid — he's not here today — but he always enlightens my day, no matter how my day's going, he always enlightens my day and I love that," he said.

It's a chance for the students to disengage from day-to-day distractions, all while creating a bond between kids in two different age groups.

"Some of these kids don't have people to look up to, so it's cool just being there for them and just have someone who cares about them," one of the players said…

"We get a chance to give back and I explain to our players that in our community, our numbers are low in reading and comprehension, and we want to help kids understand it's fun and cool to read and be involved," David Dunn, the head football coach at Lincoln High, said.

Coach Dunn created the Day II Day Foundation to inspire confidence and boost self-esteem of the youth in the area. Specifically, the foundation has a goal of reducing high school drop out rates and increasing college attendance.

Day II Day teamed up with nonprofit Reading Legacies to bring Youth Reading story sessions, led by Lincoln High football players, to the Malcolm X Library and Valencia Park. Betty Mohlenbrock is Reading Legacies' founder and president.

"It's about providing a foundation for kids to be successful in reading and relationships, self-esteem and ultimately in life," Mohlenbrock said.

Mohlenbrock used to be a teacher, but she left education to create a program to give adults the opportunity to read to kids in the community. She studied the impact of reading early to kids as she did research for her Master's degree.

"The single best predictor in their success in reading is if they've been read aloud to," she said.

She started Reading Legacies over 20 years ago as a way to connect kids with parents on deployment. The nonprofit has since expanded to libraries. schools and even correctional facilities.

"It's rewarding, honestly, because they're excited and it makes you excited as well," a Youth Reading participant told ABC 10News.

"Kids love repetition. If they find a book they like, they'll want to hear it over and over again. We make choices everyday and that has to be a choice, and we as adults are the role model and have to initiate it," Mohlenbrock said.

2003: Kitty breaks the code on the files given to her by Nathaniel Essex and reveals to Dazzler that they are government plans to create giant mutant-hunting robots; they go to the Professor about it.

2004: Moira's stomach aches grow worse. Asgard (plot): Alison is nearly burned as a witch; Manuel is taken in by Loki; Jubilee is pixified and ends up as pet to a Dark Elf.

2005: Nathan has lunch with his father in New York, learning his induction into Mistra was intentional, and he has an uncle, Gideon Faraday. Bad Blood: Remy discovers the effects of Sabretooth's attack on Alison.

2007: Bobby gives Terry an antique harp for an early birthday gift.

2008: Seven Minutes In Heaven: Nate's psimitar arrives by courier, sent by Tara Trask who took it back from Ilyas Saidullayev; Forge is less than impressed; Pete is even less impressed when he discovers Lense is now working for the Hellfire Club and smashes his laptop, to the consternation of his staff. Crystal wishes Terry an early happy birthday; Adrienne gives Terry an extra-special present. Sulaco: Amelia discovers the pills Jay has been taking as part of the drug trial and notifies Sam as Jay's family.

2009: Catseye brings ice cream to Nathan in the infirmary and the two discuss French lessons, as well as her joining the X-Men while Nathan contemplates his retirement from same. Catseye emails Kevin asking him for help with Yvette's birthday present. Kyle emails Dani to ask her to smack Jay, who is being belligerent in his own post about joining the X-Men. Dani posts about her resolve to finish college. Catseye seeks out books from Sam and discovers his attack on Kyle, which prompts a great deal of disapproval. Garrison sends a very poignant email to Jay, alluding to the funeral he is attending for his deceased teammates to make Jay understand what being part of a team means. Marius posts to the x-grads community about the maturity of the X-Men and Jay in particular, which yields quite a response from the graduates. Jay apologizes to the team for being an asshole and agrees to accept any trainee name he is given, though the apology has mixed results. Malibu Madness: Julian's father visits and informs his son that should he be able to go three weeks without exceeding a spending limit of $500, he will be given leave to visit - with his friends - the family's summer home in Malibu for a week; Julian posts to x-kids inviting his classmates to the house in Malibu, confident he can win his father's challenge. Jay emails Kyle telling him he is not apologizing for what he said to Kyle on the x-team comm. Nathan announces his retirement from active duty on the x-team comm, informing the team he will be staying on as a reserve member and taking an active role in the training of new members. The Beaubier twins discuss Alpha Flight and Jake. Jay goes to the medlab for a checkup and encounters Nathan, remaining belligerent despite Nathan's patience; Kyle arrives to visit Nathan bearing a pretzel and Jay retreats without further confrontation. Jean-Paul runs into a slightly inebriated Scott at Harry's and discuss the situation in Canada, Nathan's retirement, and Jay's addition to the X-Men. Late at night, an insomniac Lex encounters an overcharged Nori and is very intrigued by her powers. Home and Native Land: The five Alpha members who were killed are buried and Malcolm Colcord reveals not only is Walter Langkowski suspected of accidentally revealing the location of the team in a private email, but the entire Alpha Flight program is being shut down.

2010: Kevin is released from the medlab but can't stay put in his suite. He runs into Laura on his way to the rec room. Butterflies and Hurricanes: Vanessa confronts Haven at her clinic in District X and asks about the missing people. Yvette sends out birthday invitations to her friends. Crystal makes a post commemorating the third anniversary of Atillan's return to the world.

2011: Wade leaves a variety of gifts for people on his return. He chats with Molly and is briefly afraid she's drowned in the pool. Meggan thanks Wade for her gift and mentions self defence training with him. Doug thanks Wade on the journals for his gift; A kegger is proposed with Amanda's keg of Guinness. Matt thanks Wade for his gift. Molly discovers a website of cats wearing hats. Wade sms's Kyle about hangovers.

2012: Scott finds Artie practicing his powers in an empty classroom.

2013: Matt and Hope cook together in the kitchen and discuss about him getting a haircut. Matt crashes at Amanda's after aerial class and the two discuss their different teams, among other things, over Chinese food.

2014: Darkness Within: Jubilee emails Haller, asking him why Molly would hesitate in combat, which nearly caused casualties; Scott emails Namor to tell him that his parents are very unhappy about his abduction and wanted to remove him from Xavier’s. Jean shows Scott Ororo’s old attic apartment, and suggests they move in.PHASE 2

2015: Cruelty is Bitter Bane: Garrison e-mails Logan, Kitty, and Julian for help out in St. Louis; the three mutants arrive in St.Louis to help; Julian and Kane meet with the family; Logan and Kitty break into the morgue. Bobby and Amara meet and are cute while discussing their respective powers.

2016: Gabriel invites the adults of the mansion to join him watching the Olympics and getting drunk on cachaça and eating pizza. Alison posts to say that she’s in front of a huge TV watching the Olympic Games and people should join her. Darcy lets people know that women’s Rugby 7s might be her new favorite sport ever.

2017: Rogue posts up the 2017 Extreme Eating Challenge results complaining she wants to eat everything up there apart from the pasta.

2018: Amanda casually moves in with a reluctant Topaz. Tandy texts Topaz to apologize for missing dinner.

2021: Returning to the mansion, Felicia finds North already there and talks with him. As discussed, Darcy and Terry go axe-throwing.

2022: Maya shares some music she likes.

Things I’d change about Penny Dreadful

Season 4

After her lover and family’s presence help Vanessa to find her value again and the strength to fight Dracula, the path travels to Egypt to uncover Vanessa’s godly origin and fight the forces of darkness in a final battle that will decide the fate of humanity and monsters alike.

Season 2

Dorian doesn’t date Angelique nor Brona. Instead, he becomes obsessed with Vanessa and her rejection. In pursuing her, he approaches the closed circle of her household and unfolds the mystery surrounding her. Being hedonist and indifferent to the world’s fate, he might only start to help her for futile reasons. So it is, Dorian has studied many subjects out of boredom through his immortal life. He may know more than we think.

The ugliness the Creature has outside, Brona has on the inside. She was brought back from death in perfect body conditions, but mentally disturbed. The worst side of her in life, the one who has been feed with hatred by abusive men, took completely over and she sees her other Brona as weak. She has no care for mankind and joins the rising forces of darkness, maybe with the promise that she will rule over men and have her own army of immortal women.

She convinces the Creature to follow her. He has been disappointed by humanity three times already: by his creator, by the theater people and by the Putney Family. He had resource to the bride Victor was preparing for him as his last hope of company, so he joins the ugly and unloved creatures of night, finally accepting this is where he belongs. However, there is one among the people he met who was kind to the bitter end: Vanessa Ives. When he learns she is the final goal of the dark forces, will he be compliant?

And will Brona once she finds out the only man who was ever decent to her is on the other side of the battlefield? What will Ethan do once he sees what his “brother” has done to the woman he once loved?

Season 3

After his disappointment with Brona, Victor relies on Vanessa, who has been both a mother and elder sister to him, and seeks to destroy his creations before they can cause anymore damage. Unlike Lily, Vanessa is a real woman. She is not a romantic ideal he made up as a boy, but she is strong, supportive, and she suppresses his maternal need - friendly reminder that Victor’s most traumatic events from childhood is the lost of his mother. However, Vanessa sees him as a little brother, and Ethan has stole her attention as he does with everyone with his rude appearance and quick trigger, something school boy Victor never had. This adds even more tension between the fake brothers.

Loss of Control

Penny Dreadful: Vanessa Ives, Sembene, Sir Malcolm, Ethan Chandler, Victor Frankenstein Word Count: 462 (T)W: possession, mentions of asylum and exorcism, violence Request: Yes "Vanessa Ives x reader light angst, and maybe some fluff? Please?” - Anon A/N: I really enjoyed writing this request and it's made me want to re-watch the series again

The night Van was possessed was the worst of your life. You knew she had been placed in an asylum before, but you had been out of the country for that. Standing in the library listening to the three men arguing about the best course of action was hard to hear. Eventually you had to say something. “Enough! All of you! I’m sick of listening to you argue over Van as if she isn’t a real person! Here’s what’s going to happen, Dr. Frankenstein, you have one week to try medicine, if that doesn’t work then we call a priest. A Doctor or asylum are our very last resorts. Am I clear gentlemen?” When all nodded in agreement (although Frankenstein’s appeared a little reluctant), you left the men to ensure that Vanessa was alright.

As promised, after a week of Frankenstein trying different procedures (on top of the prior 3 weeks he had before your delegating) and no difference in Vanessa, you called for a Priest from the church.

You were standing at the foot of the stairs with Frankenstein as Sir Malcolm opened the front door for the priest. Frankenstein looked at you as if to ask “why?”, you rolled your eyes at him and greeted the priest who was reluctant to perform an exorcism without permission from the Vatican.

When you entered Van’s room with the priest, Sir Malcolm, Mr Chandler, Dr. Frankenstein and Sembene, Van was laying in the bed, almost catatonic, you sat at the foot of her bed while the priest sat by Van’s side asking questions about her faith and trying his best to get a response from her. The last thing you expected was for Van to bite the priest’s ear when he leaned closer to her. In that moment the entire room sped up. You were thrown against the wall by an invisible force, hard enough for Van’s crucifix to fall with a thud, then you were dragged out of the room by Frankenstein and Sir Malcolm. The door to Van’s room slammed shut behind you and trapped Ethan (Chandler) and Van inside alone.

The next couple of minutes were stressful, Frankenstein tried his best to calm you and tend to your injuries before turning his attention to the Priest and his injuries. Sir Malcolm and Sembene watched the door. Just when you were all beginning to fear the worst, Van’s door opened, and Mr. Chandler left abruptly.

The next couple of days went by without much incident. The priest basically blocked out the events from his mind, thankfully. Van was becoming more like herself again. You two would go for walks, spend time reading in the library (books and fortunes), things you did before Van’s possession, it felt good, it felt … normal.

The Clairvoyant's White Witch

Summary: After witnessing the events of Mr Lyle's Friday evening party, a woman seeks out Vanessa Ive's and Sir Malcom to offer her assistance in finding Sir Malcom's missing daughter but at first she will only speak to the infamous Miss Ives and soon a fleeting feeling becomes so much more.

Warnings: (social anxiety, quick mention of death and demon possession)

After the events I'd witnessed at Mr Lyle's London establishment, I couldn't force the images out of my mind. I'd never seen a possession of such a magnitude before and the vile things that poor woman had been put through made my stomach churn. So after a quick conversation with another woman in attendance, I soon learned the woman's name and the name of the man she had accompanied and I knew I had to do something to help.

The streets of London were frigid the next night, as I walked through the aristocracy sector of the city. It hadn't taken me very long to learn of the address I required and now, with only the light from the gas lamps and the moon, I found myself standing before a grand manor house, with my hand coming up to knock at the door.

I gave two firm knocks before the door was opened by a man that I presumed worked for Sir Malcolm, who owned this home. Out of instinct upon realising my close proximity to the man in the entrance I took a step back and waited a moment before I spoke.

"Good evening, I'm here to see Sir Malcolm and Miss Ives," I spoke quickly and politely before being allowed to enter the home. Upon walking into the entrance hall, the man who had allowed me in asked for my shawl and coat though the request only made me pull the material of the shawl closer around my shoulders, though I soon relented and handed over my coat.

I was now standing in my blush pink and white gown with my shawl being in a secure place around my shoulders. "Ma'am if you'll follow me into the Drawing Room please," The gentlemen who welcomed me in requested and I began to walk towards what I believed to be the Drawing Room.

The door was then opened for me and I soon caught site of two people already occupying the room. Suddenly I felt terribly self conscious, perhaps it had been stupid to come, maybe I was being to impulsive or I'd had to much to drink the night before.

Yet when I actually thought about it I knew, deep down, that I still wanted to be here and I still wanted to offer my help.

"Hello Miss, I'm Sir Malcolm and this is Miss Ives," an older gentlemen introduced himself and then gestured to the woman who stood to his right. I knew he was the one who owned this establishment, I'd tried to do a little research before arriving tonight, if only to quell my anxiousness.

Then my blue eyes wondered and I found myself looking at the woman I'd seen last night. I thought she had been beautiful the night prior, regardless of what occurred but looking at her now, I could only attest that she was even more stunning. Her black hair was uncharacteristically down for a woman of her status and she wore a lovely yet simple black laced frock.

"Good Evening, I'm Lilian Damar and I um...." My sentence quickly broke off as Sir Malcolm began to walk over to me to presumably shake my hand in greeting and I could feel my palms begin to sweat and suddenly my hands needed something to do, so I unconsciously began to tug at the sleeve of my dress.

"A pleasure Miss Damar," Sir Malcolm began to announce as It seemed he hadn't seen my change in demeanour but before he could walk passed the couch that divided the room Miss Ives spoke up and halted him.

"Sir Malcom could you please excuse myself and the Lady Damar, I'd wish to enquire as to why she's here first." This had Sir Malcolm coming to halt and soon his back was facing me as I wondered if perhaps the two were now having a silent conversation.

It seemed it didn't matter as quickly after Miss Ives had spoken, the older gentlemen was leaving the Drawing Room, now leaving just myself and the ravenette.

The room's door soon closed and I was quickly looking back at the woman that stood on the opposite end of the room to me. She hadn't even met me yet and already I saw how her eyes looked at me with something more than interest and I could only hope it wasn't pity.

"I do hope I made the right judgement in sending Sir Malcolm out," She began to say walking over to the couch that sat close to the fireplace, with a gentle hand gesturing for me to sit with her.

As I waited for her to continue, I quickly took her up on her silent offer to sit down and soon found myself seated a mere foot away from this enchanting woman.

"When I saw how your hands tugged on your sleeve I thought it may be best for now." That's when I saw how she smiled at me and now I realised it wasn't pity in her eyes but understanding and suddenly I felt far more comfortable now, then when I had entered in before.

"You did Miss Ives," I reassured, struggling to loose my more upper class voice but perhaps my natural tongue would come through soon enough, once I became a little more comfortable here.

"That's good to hear, now down to business, why is it you have come here tonight?" Her tone only shifted slightly as she spoke and even then it only became more confident not sounding harsh at all.

"Well, you see Miss Ives," I began and then took a quick steadying breath before continuing, "I was in attendance at last nights festivities and I witnessed what happened so I've come here to tonight to offer my help."

That certainly wasn't as hard to say as I thought it was going to be and that only served to make my confidence grow. Then I looked at Miss Ives intently, as I watched the gears in her head turn and move as she thought over my words.

"And what is it you believe us in need of help with, if you don't my mind me asking?" Her tone was skeptical now and her brows furrowed together as her icy blue eyes narrowed soley on me.

"I heard that Sir Malcolm's daughter has gone missing and after last nights... ordeal, I believe that it is no common disappearance but instead apart of something that isn't within the control of the mortal realm." I was originally unsure how to refer to last nights events, I didn't want to upset the ravenette that sat across from me and I knew how hard it was to live with things inside you that could sometimes be outside of your control.

"And how is it you came to that conclusion?" She was a smart woman, I could feel it as soon as I stepped inside the room, her demeanour practically exuded intelligence and a knowledge stronger than most women of her age and status, she truly did seem to be the diamond within the rough.

"I don't commonly see women being possessed by the supernatural and certainly not to the extent that you were, which I truly am sorry I couldn't prevent but I believe that to be evidence enough to back up what I have said."

It was so tempting to place a comforting hand over her own paler one and perhaps I would have, maybe I did, I had started to at least but then I quickly retracted it. I knew, much like myself, she wouldn't want my pity and though that wasn't what I would've been trying to give her, I knew she wouldn't have seen that immediately.

A scoff then came before she shook her head in somewhat annoyance, "How could you have possibly prevented it?" She asked me almost mockingly.

"Perhaps I couldn't have prevented it but I could have maybe weakened it's effects, perhaps I could have even expelled the demon sooner than it had left. I'm not sure, I couldn't even guarantee such a thing." I had truly wanted to do something but everything seemed to happen so quickly and there were so many people, if I'd intervened then I probably would already be dead.

"There's nothing you could have done," Her tone had certainly lost the the gentleness of earlier but there was still a hint of kindness left. She probably thought I was lying, making something outlandish up just to gain attention but I knew my next words would put to rest such thoughts.

"Perhaps not but a White Witches job is to help those who need it Miss Ives and that's what intend to do. You can have Sir Malcolm come back in now."

She often bathed in the evening. It was easier for Vanessa; Malcolm tended to be strange about it. Not that it mattered— the man in question was not in at the moment. Nor was Sembene, and she admittedly wasn’t sure about Ethan.

She wasn’t sure, that is, until she ran into him on the way to her room. He caught her, steadying her with his hands on her arms. Even through the fabric of her robe separating them, it felt like his touch burned.

“Whoa there,” he finally said.

She didn’t respond, and the awkwardness of the moment melted into a different type of tension as their eyes finally met.

She couldn’t say who started it— but then his mouth was on hers, a hand on her waist pulling her body into his. They stumbled backwards a little until she hit the wall, breaking the kiss for a moment.

She laughed breathlessly, and let him continue kissing her, crushed between the solid length of him and the cool wall at her back. It was freeing.

A couple of years ago I posted this little thing thinking it would get a few likes and then vanish into the inter webs. Thank you all so much for the overwhelming support for this little piece! Also there are spoilers so don’t read if you haven’t seen it because many scenes in this fic come straight from the show baby!

“Y/N” Gil speaks as he walks into my laboratory with JT and Dani, “thanks for hustling on this. I know these homicides were-”

“Amazing!” I said finishing up the autopsy report, “I mean, I’ve only read about The Surgeon’s meathods in textbooks. To see them carried out in person, it’s a real thrill!” Gil just raised an eyebrow as I walked towards them.

“So, three victims... based on the tox report, each one was injected with a different cocktail of paralytic agents that shut their bodies down one system at a time.” I explained using hand gestures with a surgical knife in one hand, “It must have been agony”

“It was”

Everyone turned to the voice in the doorway. There stood a tall, thin, and exhausted looking man, who undoubtedly was quite attractive.

“I imagine” he said catching my gaze, making me blush, “I have a preliminary profile.”

“Damn, Bright, you sleep at all?” Gil said.

‘Huh Bright that’s an odd name.’ She thought to herself

“Wow” Bright said pulling her out of her thoughts, “this suture work is amazing. These Y-incisions. You’re like Picasso with formaldehyde.” He said looking at me with his breathtaking blue eyes.

“Thanks” I chuckled back getting flustered. “And you’re very... slender” I mentally face palmed at my response and awkwardly looked away.

“Yeah, well, most food makes me sick” he said winking at me.

“What’s happening?” JT whispered to Dani as she shrugged.

Bright, Gil, Dani, and JT all discuss Bright’s profile and the case, but for some reason, I just couldn’t keep my eyes of that boy. Something about him drew me to him, but I couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was. The subtle wickedness in his smile and I could from his eyes, that he held something in his mind that cut deep, something he wanted to say, something that eats him inside and out. But who knows, right? I’m probably just over examining this kid, he probably just has insomnia or something.

“They're also strangers.” Gil said drawing my attention yet again, “Nothing connects them.

“Except for these.” Bright says as he lifts up the corpse’s arm. I tilt my head, “All three victims had the same bruising on their wrists. This does not match The Surgeon's methods.” Bright explains making me smirk.

‘This boy really is observant. Wonder who taught him.’ I think to myself.

“Maybe our guy handcuffed Vanessa?” JT asks looking at the bodies.

“These aren't from metal. My guess is quarter-inch-thick Japanese-style bondage rope. Simple but effective.” Bright replies.

“Exactly!” I blurt excitedly, causing Bright to turn his gaze towards me, giving a small smile, “I mean... I agree about the rope and its effectiveness, and, and everything else that you said.” I say embarrassed as ever, words shifting to mutters after realizing that I’m rambling.

“Also, these bruises don't match the time of death. They're from earlier. Three days at least.” I say shifting my attention to Gil, “So, the women were all restrained, but not on the night that they were murdered.”

Bright gave me a smile smile as the four continued to discuss possible suspects. Within ten minutes, they were already out with a lead, leaving me alone with my bodies.

“What is going on in your head Mr. Bright?” I sigh leaning on one of the tables, looking at one of the bodies as if to find an answer.

“Damnit!” I yelled at my computer screen, seeing as I have only one move left on my game of Candy Crush, “fucking stupid game, only 40-year-old stay-at-home moms think you're fun!” I say as I wave my middle fingers around at the screen. Groaning, I start up a new game, when I hear someone running toward my lab.

“No one should be here this late...” I say to myself, walking towards my door. When Bright bursts in, nearly hitting my face with the door. He stumbles in holding a blue and white cooler.

“Bright? What are you doing here?” I say running to my computer to switch the screen to my emails, “if you're looking for the bodies, I already sent them out to another lab, but I mean if it’s importa-

“You really don’t need to hide the fact that you were playing games on your computer...” he interrupts, out of breath.

“Bright, what? Are you-whats going on? Did you run here?”

“Almost...” he says slouching over, “I tried catching up to the ambulance... they left without this”

He drops the blue cooler onto one of the tables. I notice blood spattered all over his clothes and face.

“Oh goodness! You have blood all over you! What the hell did you do? Are you okay?” I say running to him holding his shoulders.

“Yeah, yeah... I’m fine, uh I don’t know how to say this,” he says looking up at me with his bright blue eyes, “theres a severed hand in there.”

“What?!” I scream.

“We located Nico, turns out he was being held by our new suspect and there was a bomb, and, well, it was the only way.” he explained, still trying to regain his breath, “the ambulance left with Nico and I didn’t know what to do with this, so I brought it here to see if you could to any DNA tests?”

I stood speechless for a moment, “Bright, I don’t think I have any permission to do this, besides I don’t have any access to any very accurate tests, its not like i have FBI equipment.”

“Right, I’m sorry. I’m just not quite use to working like this” he says, confusing me.

“Well the least I can do is get you cleaned up.” I said looking at his blood spattered face. I take him to the sink room, where he washes his hands and face. I notice his shaking hands as he cleans himself.

“You’re shaking.” I say grabbing his hand. He looks down at me longingly, as I realize what I’m doing, and dropping his hand, “Sorry, I shouldn't have-”

“No. Its alright” He says grabbing my hand again. I look down to see his hand stopped shaking.

“Tremors” he says making me look up at him, “I know you were thinking about it. I’ve had them since I was young.” We look into each other’s eyes taking in the moment, until I realize the the faucet was still running. I snap out of my trance and turn to turn off the running water.

“Would you like a change of clothes?” I say trying to change the subject

“Do you have any?” he asks

“No.” I say getting caught in the lie. I rub my neck and slowly walk away.

“Well thank you Mr. Bright, I will take very good care of this hand and I will see you around... I guess” I say, going to get my jacket and bag.

“Y/N,” he says making stop fumbling around, “I also came to ask if you would like to maybe go and have a drink with me someday?”

I stand there, shocked at his words, “I uh, well um, I...” I stutter as he raises a brow, “Yes! I-I mean yeah... sure, sure”

He smiles, “Great! Well then its, there uh- I mean its a date!” he chuckles, “Would you like me to walk you home?”

“Oh no its okay, I have a ride.” I say giving an awkward smile

“Alright then, Ms. Y/L/N, I will see you very soon.” he says giving me a smile as he leaves. I watch him walk away smiling to myself.

‘What did I just get myself in to?’

A/N: Soooooo I'm very tired and i totally rushed the end sorryyyy. lol I have some plans for this fic, but like idk whats gonna actually happen in the show, so i kinda gotta wait till more happens idkkk i there may or may not be some dark stuff or maybe smutty stuff. let me know y'all if you like this and if u want a smutty or dark thing coming!
