So, I saw your cool fan made Wukong parents post, but I was wondering about the canonical origins of the Monkey King. What does it say in the actual text(s) about his birth? Where did his magic rock come from?
Chapter one of Journey to the West (1592) states the following:

Egotober 2023 Day 2: Faerie Stone
Summary: Marvin’s magical interests are sometimes more hazardous than they need to be.
Prompt: Stone

Three Septics: J.J, Marvin, and Jackieboy Man, were all standing around a large moss-covered stone in the middle of a forest in Athlone. None of them were in costume and trying not to get spotted by anyone.
Marvin had a huge book that he was flipping through in his hands.
“Okay, Jackieboy, touch it,” Marvin said, looking at Séan.
“Not a fucking chance,” Séan said. “You saw what that thing did to Chase.”
“He’s fine,” Marvin said. “Got wards all over the place this time.”
“Not enough,” J.J signed.
Marvin looked over at J.J who repeated it for him. He laughed. “No, it’s enough, I got this. Watch.”
J.J shrugged, pulled out his pocket watch and clicked the button at the top. Then he walked over and sat down.
And then he disappeared.
Marvin and Séan just stood there in shocked silence.
Then Marvin flipped through a couple pages. “Huh, that wasn’t supposed to happen.”
“Ye fucking think‽” Séan said, spit flying at Marvin a bit.
“Eww,” Marvin brushed off his book. “I got this, don’t worry.”
Séan gestured with his arms to the rock. “Chase is with Henrik, J.J is gone. Henrik is going to kill you, and then me, and I might kill you next.”
“No, if he’s anywhere, he’s between worlds, very easy to get him back,” Marvin insisted.
“Then fucking do it,” Séan said.
“I’m trying, let me work,” Marvin shot back, angling his book away. “Fuck, it’s like you want me to rip him apart when I bring him back.
Before Marvin could start setting up sigils and assorted focusing, J.J reappeared on the rock. Sitting just like he had before. Looking exactly like he had before, but looking very tired.
“Oh,” Marvin said in surprise before snapping the spellbook shut and smiling at Séan. “See? No harm, no foul. Right Jay?”
J.J waited until Marvin looked back at him to fuck him off.
“See?” Marvin’s smile got even more chipper. “He’s got all ten fingers. He looks fine.”
J.J walked over to hold up a middle finger closer to Marvin’s face and stomped off.
“I’m surprised he didn’t punch you,” Séan said.
Marvin was looking at J.J, “Did he have a hickey?”
“You know what, after today, I don’t care what he was up to, I care what you’re up to,” Séan said.
Marvin shrugged, looking smug. “Pretty sure it was. I’m glad he got some time to himself.”
J.J turned back to throw a wadded up piece of cloth from his pocket at Marvin before continuing to walk off.
The magician turned to look at the rock, confident in his test, but he gasped. “No! The rock’s gone!”
Séan was alarmed at first, but saw that there was no more dangerous rock. “Good. Now you can go experiment with something less dangerous than a rock that takes you off to faerie world.”
“Would have been a nice vacation.” Marvin got really disappointed at the disappearance of his new favorite fixation.
J.J continued to head back to the car and just sat in the car. He waited for Séan and Marvin to come back. They’d head off to Séan’s place and pick up Chase from Henrik’s.
But for now J.J sat in the backseat, looking at his new pocket watch. It was different from the one he usually used to work his magic through and take care of people. This one had a stone casing and almost a crystalline clock face.
It felt like he’d been where he was for ages, but it had only been a couple minutes.
For the best, perhaps.

Chapter 2: Crystal Ball’s Dream
Narrated by no one.
Narrator: Officials line up in two rows in the Meeting Hall and show the Queen the steps they’ve been practicing all night.
Gray-Bearded Minister: As the snow dances, for 6 months the ski race around the city has pranced; it’s kicking up wind and dust in a blast, an historical record in its own class...
Gray-Bearded Minister: Under the eyes of the masses, who will come out ahead in the final laps?
White Hat Minister: The crochet color dance, is an art of ours most advanced; capturing all in our snowy expanse, not a single repeat can be glanced...
White Hat Minister: As new applications arrive in sacks, who shall join the Crochet Society, perchance?
White Coat Minister: The curtains are drawn for our festival of cants, 224 times blessed by the god of romance; reading poetry requires going into a trance, giving the perfect gift with a perfect chant...
White Coat Minister: Please play the Rime, the second waltz from Noddley’s Winter.
Narrator: The official waves for a sheepskin carpet to roll out all the way to the door. As if on cue, the royal band begins to play. The combinations of rhythm and recital continue until noon.
Narrator: After all officials have departed, the queen calls the crystal ball forward as usual in her search for clues to the missing magic stone.
Erika: From spring to wood, to horizon and the heart of snow... All-seeing eye, help me find the lost magic stone.
Narrator: The soft singing caresses the ball. It glows faintly with images of desolate locations.
Narrator: Just like every other day, there is no response from the magic stone.
Narrator: The crystal ball hears the queen’s quiet sigh and stops glowing to reflect her beautiful but sorrowful face.
Narrator: There are only a few pieces scattered on the chessboard nearby. The White Queen returns them to their proper place one by one, but cannot recall where the missing pieces have gone.
Erika: Why do I always lose the important things...?
Narrator: She recalls when the Red Queen would play her in chess regularly, years ago, though it was actually Red’s Servant of the Void that moved the pieces.
Erinka: How long until the game is over? I’m bored.
Narrator: The Red Queen urged on the velvet sofa, tapping her red heels on the marble floor.
Narrator: The White Queen was slow with her moves, but each one was meticulously planned. The Servant of the Void found itself on the losing end and tugged its master’s red dress for help.
Erinka: Losing again? Fine. I see that only I can beat my clever little sister!
Erika: You’re not going to do that again, are you?
Erinka: “The Queen’s Waltz!”
Narrator: The Red Queen picked up the black queen and moved it around the board at will. Soon, the white queen piece is taken for a ride around the board.
Erinka: I have ensnared your queen! I win!
Erika: Quit it! That’s against the rules. You’re cheating.
Narrator: The Red Queen dropped the piece, grabbed the White Queen, and spun her once around.
Erinka: Fine, no more playing. Queen don’t show up at balls solo. Are you just going to keep me cooped up in a room now that I’m finally here?
Erika: You’re right. Let’s go practice dancing then.
Narrator: That Starsnow, Red Castle was filled with the scent of all sorts of desserts. Gingerbread queens are sold in pairs in shops along the street.
Narrator: Jingles rang in the square of White Castle. It was the ice chipper, carving ice sculptures of the two queens.
Narrator: While the Red Castle craftsmen and White Castle vendors kept busy, they happily hummed...

The wind, fire, and grass
Can’t hold a candle to Erinka’s steps.
Snowballs, plaster, and glass
Are leagues from Erika’s melodies.
The girls foretold embrace the magic stones
And bind the cities on either shore.
We crown them with gold
And laud them day and night.
The queen dances to music of her own
And the queen’s hymns can be sung by all.
