One of the funny things I’ve recently realized after browsing old TOH posts is that the whole idea of the ‘Luz and Hunter are siblings’ dynamic feels like almost entirely a creation of the fandom. Not only that, but a dynamic that was created basically by accident.
Consider for a moment just when and WHY fans actually started the ‘Luz and Hunter are siblings’ idea: It wasn’t in the wake of King’s Tide or after Hollow Mind when Luz and Hunter start really becoming friends, it was following Hunting Palismans. AKA, the episode where the mysterious ‘Golden Guard’ is revealed to be the show’s resident ‘edgy bad-boy with a sad backstory’ named Hunter, and also established that despite what he may think at the time, him and Luz are definitely going to be friends sooner or later.
In other words, the fandom’s idea that ‘Luz and Hunter are siblings’ started mainly as pushback against shipping those two and more notably, any theories/claims that Luz and Hunter might end up together in the show. As in, right after Hunting Palismans released, you can find a ton of posts that amount to ‘THEY’RE LIKE SIBLINGS DAMMIT!’ as fans try to get ahead of any ideas people might start getting that Luz and Hunter might be some endgame couple.
Now of course, in should have been pretty clear even when Hunting Palismans released that ‘Lunter’ was NEVER going to be an actual thing in the show. Like I’ve always commended the foresight of Dana Terrace and her crew for making sure that Amity was FIRMLY locked-in as Luz’s love-interest before they let Luz anywhere near the show’s resident ‘edgy bad-boi with a sad backstory in need of a redemption-arc’.
But for me, the funny this looking back on all this in hindsight; this presenting that Luz and Hunter are going to be like siblings as pushback against any theories that they were going to end up together romantically nonetheless made the same underlying assumption about where Hunter’s character was going:
That he’d end up being this super-close friend and ally to Luz and that she’d be the one facilitating his redemption arc, ala Aang to Zuko or any other case of ‘hero(ine) redeems rival and they become best friends’.
And of course what makes that so funny is the fact that this DIDN’T actually happen, at least not in the way most of us were expecting. Yes, Hunter did end up being A close friend and ally to Luz, but the people who he’s actually closest to and the one who really drove and facilitated his redemption arc wound up being Willow and Gus!
In conclusion, the whole idea of ‘Luz and Hunter are siblings’ dynamic feels like one of those cases of a fandom coming up with an assumption about where characters might be going, and then forgetting that they were the ones who originally came up with it while the show itself does something else.
And also, Hunter is WAY more of an older brother to GUS than he is to Luz, and frankly I think we need more recognition of that fact XD

Was arguing with a lunter anti and they said it’s a gross ship bc Camila adopted Hunter, which she didn’t, and I said, going by your logic, lumity is gross too bc Camila said that she’s a mother of six. Their reply was that Amity had another family and Hunter didn’t, like?? What does Hunter not having a family have to do with anything? Camila treated everyone like her kids and Hunter only stayed with her temporarily. It’s not like she raised him and it’s not like he called her his mom.
I’m tired of the mental gymnastics these antis engage in to justify their biphobia and puritanism, and in this case it was in the comment section of a lunter animation too. These people just don’t have basic etiquette! What happened to seeing art for a ship you don’t like, ignoring it, and moving on?? I hope this fandom fizzles out soon bc this shit is unbearable.
Yeah, they really like just making up stuff and then, when you answer them with the same logic, gaslight you into thinking It's "different" bc of different stupid arguments, It's just funny, yeah
Also, since it's heavily implied that Hunter was adopted by Darius and even many of them do think Aladarius is canon, they just say themselves that Hunter is Amity's and Luz's "adoptive brother" at the same time, which would make Luz and Amity adoptive siblings themselves, but they just ignore it, like they ignore everything they don't like. And when you call this out, they suddenly change their words and then say stuff like "well, actually Luz and Hunter aren't really siblings, It's not canon, we just have made it up yeah... BUT YOU STILL CANT SHIP IT BC WE DON'T LIKE IT SO WE WILL CALL THEM ACTUAL ADOPTIVE SIBLING WHEN WE NEED THIS" I laugh every time

On the topic of How Do You Handle XYZ Comment, I've always wondered how you handle terrible responses on your toh takes. Like I know the toh fandom doesn't lack piss on the poor reading comprehension and they also really enjoy wildly out of touch takes, but I've never seen any comments on your princess luz stuff of that nature. I'm sure they must be there but maybe I'm too early? But anyway, how do you tend to deal with the "acktually shipping luz and Hunter is incest" and the "ur not a real lesbian because putting amity in a poly ship is lesbian erasure" and the "as a white person kinda sus you make the poc woman an empress" kind of responses? Ones that are technically not hate and maybe if you squint could be from people who aren't inherently trying to do bad but just lack the maturity needed to engage with the internet at large?
this ask made me giggle. honestly, i haven't received as much pushback as you might expect! way less pushback than i expected. in the princess AU, i've gotten a LOT more "this is actually too grotesque for me to stomach" comments than "this is problematic" comments, which is fine. horror-thriller isn't for everyone, those comments do not upset me.
i have had a Few run-ins with bad faith people, whom i mostly block. there's one prolific commenter in toh tumblr fandom who would repeatedly write angry essays on my humor meta posts -- essays that were all about how belos is too evil to be sympathetic and/or about how hunter is a soft gentle boy who shouldn't be jokingly referred to as evil. then they'd go "i can't help my active and conscious decision to type a bunch of rude fucking words and then my active and conscious decision to send those rude fucking words because i'm autistic :(((" around the fourth or fifth time this happened, i was fucking done with that nonsense and finally blocked them. shoulda done it after the first comment tbh!! no more autism exceptions.
as for the rest of it, my main management strategy is to simply.... preempt the bad faith comments?
i had a LOT more unpleasant and conflict-filled fandom experiences when i was in the raven cycle fandom. that was my first exposure to "you can't ship multi-gender polycules if anyone involved is gay" and "queerplatonic het relationships are just heteronormativity shipping that you're trying to get away with." having dealt with those takes before, i've found a few different ways to disarm bad faith readers before they get started.
first is to be super open and honest about my interests. i talk about what i find compelling in different relationships All The Damn Time. it's really hard for anyone to accuse me of only wanting hunter to fuck amity if they've seen, like.... anything i've said about hunter and amity.
same with hunter and luz. the only negative reactions i've really gotten to how they're written in the princess AU is like.... two people being squicked by camila thinking they're romantically involved. i REALLY expected more pushback on the touchyfeely bed sharing stuff, but from what i remember, there's never been Any....? not even from people who consider them siblings.
i expected a lot of pushback on how mean hunter and amity are to each other, since it's taken So much farther than the canon. but it turns out that there's a very large overlap between people who like dark horror AUs and people who like hunter and amity murdering each other. (in a fluffy fic i don't think this characterization would fly Nearly as easily.)
i find that being funny really disarms people, too. when you look at any of my toh meta posts that could be controversial, they're basically all funny. people are a lot more willing to listen to what you have to say if you make them laugh, and it's harder for them to get angry at you.
and then the last thing is that i think i'm in sort of a privileged position in toh fandom. i've written a lot of controversial subjects and relationships and characterizations.... but i've also written some WILDLY popular mainstream fic. and people who like the mainstream fic don't really want to beef with me about differing niche opinions, bc there's a level of respect there. which they might not have for a writer they don't like.
but anyway. when things Do happen, i almost always just block and move on. there are so many people here who get what i'm talking about that there's no need for me to try to convert people who don't, you know??
#also the 'making a character of color an empress is problematic' thing made me laugh aloud#as for THAT... i don't think i've ever been accused of racism in how i write luz (or camila or raine or darius or hennessy for that matter)#i'm obviously imperfect and have blind spots as a white writer. but i also like to think i do my due diligence#at the Very Least i have Black and latine friends willing to sensitivity read for me & i've gone to native spanish speakers for camila's#dialogue. etc. if anyone has a take that's THAT bad faith about how i write women of color i'm just gonna uh.....#assume that what they really mean is that they want me to write white boys exclusively.#and well. i will not be doing that!#replies#toh#princess luz au#long post#if there are typos in this i apologize. i was out again all day and i am Le Tired

What's Bronwyn's relationship/dynamic with Hunter and Vee like? It just popped into my head and now I can't stop thinking about it.
Cause, like, her and Luz are sisters, but that's through Eda, and Hunter and Vee aren't her kids like Luz is. They're still Luz's siblings, though, so are they Bronwyn's too? I think that'd be really cute. Idk, I'm just so curious about it now
They all love her!! She’s the first baby so they all have a close relationship with her haha

I think the main issue with "proshipping" as a term is that the lines blur. Ships that counter canon ships (AKA, Lunter or Amillow or Boschlow) aren't proships, but they get so much hate. I'll see a Lunter fanart on pintrest and even though I don't personally like the ship, I will feel compelled to compliment the art because every single comment will be OMG NO LUZ IS DATING AMITY YOU HATE GAY PEOPLE HOW DARE YOU and it really pisses me off. "Ship and let ship" is about shipping whoever you want as long as it's legal. You're allowed to ship Hunter and Luz, if you want. You're not allowed to ship Hunter and Belos, or Luz and King. The only "legal" ship I don't allow/like is ships with Amity and a guy, or with Lilith and anyone, because Amity is a confirmed lesbian and Lilith is confirmed to be aroace and it erases their sexualities.
So, basically:
Ships you guys just need to leave the fuck alone because they didn't do anything wrong:
Ships that go against canon ships (Lunter, Skarlow, Camileda etc)
Ships that don't make narrative sense (Edalia, Boschlow, Boschluz, pretty much any ship with Boscha without a substantial age gap etc)
Ships you should not, under any circumstances, endorse:
Ships between a minor and an adult, or a young child and an older person (Eda and Luz, Belos and Hunter, Skara and King etc)
Ships between siblings (Eda and Lilith, Edric and Emira etc)
Ships that go against canon sexualities (Amity and Hunter, Lilith and anyone etc)
No, putting it in an age up/down work does not make it okay, and no, changing the sexuality in an au does not make it okay. If you are romanticizing these ships and making out that both parties are happy and healthy, you are a proshipper and need to rethink how you enjoy fandoms.

[Chapter Four: I'm Back]

“Y/n? Yoo-hoo! You can come out now. Well, it's okay, she just broke, so I'll fix her.” The Collector says, he snaps his fingers but the spell dissipates
“What? Why isn't it working? The Archivists aren't here, they couldn't have taken her.” Belos aims another beat at the Collector. King suddenly roars and defends the Collector, conjuring a round shield with glyph patterns on it. His eyes have become purple and extra fangs have appeared in his jaw. A blue light glows in his mouth and tears flow down his face as he roars again.
“Owl Lady, you know where my Y/n is, right?” He asks, looking at Eda, having only known [Y/n], for such a short amount of time already seemed to care for the young girl. But seeing, how upset Luz was, “Back up, kid. I don't think I can control myself right now.” Eda roars and grows in size and reverts to her original Owl Beast form. Her eyes have become orange and has extra sets of wings. Roaring again, she joins King and they attack Belos. King releases his power and they avoid the blasts. Terrified, The Collector trips, causing him to let go the star.
“She's really gone.” The Collector says, looking down at the necklace in his hands, his sister was gone.
A star floats into the In-Between Realm and settles into the water. From it, Y/n’s body reappears adn she sinks into the water. “I hope he’ll forgive me,” She thought, a hand grabs her arm and pulls her before she goes any further.
“King?” She said, looking up at him, and he chuckles, “No. But he does get his good looks from me.” Papa Titan says, and she looks at him in shock. “Oh, Titan.” She says, sadly and he looks at her, “Oh, me. Nice to meet you, Y/n the Collector.” He says, looking at her and she looks at him.
“Haven’t seen you since you trapped my brother and I here,” She said, looking up at him. “Dead-looking?” He said, and she looks at him, “Does that mean I'm also—” She asks, and he looks at her, “Ah, no, nope, no. Don't wanna do that. If you go under without a portal, you really will be dead-looking.” He says, and she looks down.
“So you’re King's dad!” She says, looking at him, “I think King said it best once. "I am both King and Queen, best of both things." He says, and she smiled softly, as he chuckles, “But Dad works fine.” He says.
“Even though I’m dead this is the last place I wanted to end up back in.” She said, sadly looking down. “About that.. Sorry.” He said, and she looked over at him and smiled, “It’s okay, you were protecting your child..But to be honest. I knew what my siblings were doing.” She said, looking down.
“That’s why they sent me down here with my sibling, and-” She shook her head, “Looking back if anyone deserved to be trapped here its me and not him.” She said, shaking her head.
“Despite that, even though I want to mend my relationship with him. When I saw him fly up to Belos, I hoped with all my heart I would see them blast him away, and—” She sighs, looking down at her hands. She couldn’t believe what she was saying.
Papa Titan looked at her sadly, “Hey, I can relate. I was willing to do anything to keep my kid safe. But I attacked the wrong people.” He said, and she looked at him, “Dragged you and the Collector down here for nothing.” He said, and she looked at him.
“Does that make us as bad as Belos?” She asked, looking at him.
“What? Have you been drinking Eda's homemade Apple Blood?” He said, and she looked away, “Well, Belos says he's trying to save humanity. And we are saying we want to save our families. So isn't that the same thing? Don't—Don't these feelings come from the same place?” She asked, looking at him.
“You assume Belos's goal comes from a genuine place. But that man doesn't care about about anything but his need to be the hero in his own delusion. And because of that, he fears what he can't control.” He says, looking at her. “And now that fear is going to win.” She says,
“Ah, dang.” He says, and she gaps as she sees Papa Titan’s chest is being affected by Belos’ possession. “I thought I had more time left. But Belos will have full control soon. You ready to stop him?” He asks, looking at her and she raises her eyebrow, “What? What can I do?” She askes, looking at him.
“Think of it as an apology. So let me use my last bit of life to help you.” He says, as he extends his hand. On it, varius glyphs appear. “But if you do you’ll no longer be a collector.” he said.
“Are you sure you wanna give this power to me?” She asks, looking at him, “Well, you're the one here, and you seem like a Collector.” He says, and she looks at him, “But I can't give you anything unless you choose to accept it. So the question is, will you choose yourself?” He asks, and she thinks for a moment, she’d be sacrificing her being a Collector living forever. But did she want that, to watch as the ones she’s grown to love fade away Hunter, she sees him more than a friend? She didn’t want to lose him again.
She takes his hand and a golden orb surrounds her. She starts to float up. “Now, Belos will be able to control everything, so you have to defeat him fast.” He says, and she looks down at him. She knew, King always wanted to learn about his father, “But-” She says, and looks down at him.
“My power won't last forever, so use your time wisely.” He says, and she keeps floating up, “Oh, but what about -” She says, looking at him, “Eda the Owl Lady?’ He says, and salutes, “Send her my regards, big fan.” He says.
She reaches out and holds on to Papa Titan’s claw to keep from being sent further upward, “No, King, what about King? Don't you wanna say something to him?” She asks, and he thinks for a moment, then whispers something in her ear. She’s excited by what she hears, “Oh. He'll love that.” She says, and chuckles, Papa Titan takes on his larger form and starts to sink into the water his body slowly sinks until it finally disappears.
“Goodbye, Y/n.” He says.
The Collector Room in the Archive, Camila begins to wake when Gus holds a light spell above her. Gus deactivates the light spell. He gasps, “She's waking up!” She says, and the others look at Camila. Gus helps her get to a sitting position as she repositions her glasses. “Wha—what's happening? Where's Luz and Y/n?” She asks, and everyone's facial all drop as she asks this.
“Uh—” Gus says, Camila is now nervous. Meanwhile, everyone hears rumbling not far from them, and they all look to see the walls and ceiling begin to collapse. Amity tries to shield themself with abomination matter, but it does not take form and falls on top of her.
“What's wrong with my magic?” Amity says, and Camila stands up and walks to Amity, “Can't you tell? You're exhausted. You all are! None of you have gotten rest in days.” Camilas says, and Willow looks at her.
“But what can we do? We can't leave everyone like this.” Willow says, looking at everyone, “And what about Luz?” Hunter says, and Amity’s face saddens, “and Y//n?” Willow says, and Hunter’s face saddens as well.
“Luz is a Noceda. You know what that means? It means she's way too stubborn to let any of this get her down.” Camila says, and puts her arm around Amity who blouses at the mention of Luz.
Camila notices Hunter’s sad and worried expression, “Same for Y/n,” She says, looking at Hunter. Everyone looks at each other and smiles, knowing Camila is right. “They'll be okay.” She says, tears had welled up in her eyes.
“In the meantime,” She wipes away her tears, “I think I know how we can help, even without your magic.” She says, smiling.
Eda and King fight Belos’ monster form. They are still in a state of rage. As Eda and King, fight and Belos fires, The Collector hides alongside Luz. [Y/n]’s necklace is sent flying near them. He attempts to desolate the battle. “No, please stop! Run away!” He pleads, snapping his fingers but nothing happens.
“Why isn't anything working?” He says, and notices the moss growing onto his hands. “I don't want anyone else to go away. I don't want anyone else to go missing! I'm sorry for everything!” He starts crying and feels his face, noticing the tears.
Luz looked at him sadly, “What is this stuff? Why-why won't it stop?” He cries, and then he notices the moss growing onto Eda’s claws, and he and Luz. Desperately brushes it off
“No! No, no, no, no! Get off of her!” He cried, and the Collector gets scared, when Belos prepares to crush them with his hand. He brings is hand down, but the beam of purple light deflects it. When the light clears, there is a gaping hole in Belos’ hand. A star shines through. A figure can be seen with an appearance similar to a titan.
The fog clears revealing that it is [Y/n]. Eda, King, Luz, and The Collector are all in shock.“Huh? It can't be—” The Collector says, in shock, [Y/n] looks up at Belos in her new Titan Collector form, “I'm back!” She shouted, grinning. Eda, King, Luz, and The Collector all stare at her in awe and shock.
She glares at Titan Belos, “Now, Belos..” She said, grinning mischievously, “Lets play a game!” She shouted, and Belos roars in anger. Causing everything to shake, inclusive the Archives. [Y/n] creates a glowing orb around her, King, Eda, Luz, and the Collector. It shoots up suddenly in erratic motions. “Oops, never had this much power before.” She said, sheepishly.
Belos roars and the Archives shake precariously, “Oh no, everyone's still in the Archives.” Eda says, and The Collector looks up at her, “Leave them to me.” He says, he jumps onto his blue star and flies off. He notices the mold progressively getting worse.
“Come on, you can at least do this.” He says, to himself.
Eda, Luz, King, and [Y/n] travel to the stage below the Archives. The mold approaches quickly and takes form of monstrous faces. [Y/n] starts a spell, but struggles to make it. She’s never held this much power before especially not the Titan’s since his would always cancel her powers out since she was a collector. But Eda and Luz’s hand guides her. “Concentrate, think of what you want and—” Eda says, and the spell manifests into a large shield. The moss bounces off of it and curls upward. Luz, Eda, and [Y/n], push it forward and it eradicates the moss. Red grass takes over and shines the arena/
“Yes!” Luz chuckles, the moss appears on multiple sides, Y/n! On three! One—” King says, and she smiles. “Two!” [Y/n] says. “Weh!” [Y/n] and King shouted, they are able to get rid of most of the moss. The rest of it starts to engulf the roof of the arena. [Y/n] and King smile at each other.
“Eda!” Luz shouts, and flies upwards on Stringbean with King in tow and indicates Eda to follow her and [Y/n]. [Y/n] smiles, and she spins creating a giant star that clears the entire area. THey notice a looming shadow adn realize the left arm of the Titan is rising.
“Hold on.” [Y/n] says, and she flies up.
In the Archives, Amity rescues Cat using a plant glyph as a giant rock falls above her, which Willow destroys with a fire glyph. Amity and Willow smile at each other. Camila continuously draws various glyphs and hands some off to Hunter. Gus is on his staff holding Amelia over hsi shoulder before a stray rock hits him and he falls. Gus uses a safety spell to gently fall and Hunter saves Gus’s palisman by using an ice glyph.
Hunter carries Amelia away as Gus flies off with more glyphs in hand. Everything violently shoes again, causing the castle to lose its support at the Titan’s horn. They panic as they plummet, but pink strings manifest and hold it up. The Collector is seen straining to hold the structure up. The gang stares in shock as he smiles down at them.
“The Collector?” Hunter says, and his heart sinks for a moment seeing the Collector wearing [Y/n]’s necklace. “Is he—?” Willow says, looking up at him, “He's helping!” Gus says.
[Y/n] looks down and sees where the magic is coming from, she flies down toward the heart of Titan. Rainewhispers caught in the moss. They are whistling their version of Eda’s Requiem in order to halt the moss’s growth. Their glasses have fallen off, and a purple beam of light can be seen. “Who's there? Stay away!” They struggles in the moss’s hold a hand and puts their glasses back on.
“It's okay Raine, I got ya.” Eda says, she pulls Raine out of the moss and hugs them.
“I am— still not used to this new look, but it doesn't matter.” They said, as she kisses Raine while they embrace, “I'm just happy you're here.” They said, noticing [Y/n] standing next to Luz’ “How long was I out for?” They said, and [Y/n] looks down notices the Titan’s power starting to fade.
“We don't have much time. Let's end this.” Luz says.
“Finally,” Raine says they clear a path to the throne room in the castle. They see Belos’ form in the heart and prepare for an onslaught. Luz and [Y/n], launch spells that destroy the upcoming branches of mold, then summon a set of ice stars and climb to the heart. They both grab Belos’ ribcage and start pulling.
“You can't defeat me!” Belos shouted, a large number of hands manifest and attempt to hurt Luz and [Y/n]. Eda slices them up with her harpy magic. Raine whistles at the moss causing it to retreat. King releases his powers and helps to protect, Luz and [Y/n].
“Do not underestimate me, Belos. For I am the Good Witch Luz, Child of the Human Realm, Student of the Demon Realm, and Warrior of Peace!” Luz Shouted,
“Do not underestimate me, Belos. For I am the Collector Y/n, Child of the Stars,” Y/n shouted, her eyes glowing orange and various glyphs manifest around her hands. The Titan yells in agony and everything shakes again. The Collector struggles to hold up the Archives. Eda, Raine, and King continuously attack.
“NOW EAT THIS, SUCKA!” [Y/n] and Luz shouted, as they successfully tore Belos out of the heart and everything falls silent as their screams echo into the silence. The monster Belos outside the heart screams in agony as its heart emits a flash of purple and blue and black lights and it explodes. The Titan’s hand is stabilized as a rush of energy runs through it.
The Titan’s eyes lose color and turn off. Back in the castle, the monster turns to stone and eventually turns into dust. And is blown away along with the mold. Thus restoring the red grass across the isles. The Archives building is slowly lowered down to the Titan’s head. The pink strings disappear and a tired Collector flies to where Camila and the others are. The blue stars disappear as the moss around his hands slowly begins to fade away.
Amity steps closer as the Collector recoils in fear. Amity then offers her hand out to him. He takes it, and small tears form in his eyes. They all rush to the balcony as they stare in awe as the moss slowly clears up. Back at the castle, the molds also start to clear up one by one. Raine, Eda, and King burst out of the moss. King gasps for air as Rain and Eda look at each other as she smiles.
[Y/n] is then standing in front of Belos’ goo form, which slowly turns into Philip. “Y/n— Y/n, I'm- I'm free. Thank goodness you saved me from-” Phillip pauses his speech as he sweats nervously, “From that horrible curse.” He says nervously. She just stared at him, with blankly stare.
“Yes, I-I was cursed with a terrible, terrible sickness, by— by dark magic,” He says, as he speaks, the sky slowly turns dark, signaling the fall of boiling rain.
“It forced me to do all those horrible things, but-but now, I'm free.” He says, a drop of boiling rain falls and he screams in pain, the part where the rain touched him on the hand becoming green. Boiling ran starts to fall from the sky.
“AH! Qui-Quickly, now!” he says, nervously she just stared at him as he crawls towards her begging, for his help. “Don't- Don't you want- to make peace - Y/n?” He asks, and she stares at him, she’d never forgive him never. Betraying her brother, manipulating others, possessing her, and hurting Hunter and her friends.
He slowly reverts back to his goo form due to the boiling rain. Her expression remains unfazed, the rain turning to sparkles in her hair as the boiling rain does not affect her. “Don't just stand there!” He shouts, his body decomposing fully, she crawls towards her, “You'll be just as bad, just as conniving, just as evil, and just as unforgivable as those Archivists!” He says, and she stares at him as he holds onto her leg.
“We're human. We're better than this!” He says, and she takes a step back. A scowling Rain, King, and Eda step in front of her as they handle Belos, the trio under the protection of the magical lead Raine had conjured.
“Well, we ain't!” Eda says, angrily. The tri raise their feet and stimp Belos repeatedly, bringing him to his end. “That was extremely satisfying.” Raine says, looking over at Eda. “Ew, it's on my claws!” King groaned, Raine feels the sun outside and they shut down their leaf. A glowing light comes from behind them as [Y/n] glows adn floats, her power from the Titan finally released. The energy manifests into the form of the Titan, Rain, King, Luz, and Eda stare in shock.
“Is that—” Raine says.
“I think it is.” Eda says, and looks to King, “Dang kid, you do have tall genes.” She says, to him.
King’s eyes sparkle in wonder as the manifestation of his father flies’s away. [Y/n] returned to her wolf costume. She opens her eyes, but realizing she doesn’t have powers anymore, she falls and screams. Eda and King, run up to catch her as the three lay on the ground side by side, panting. The clouds slowly start to reveal the sun shining as the three look on, their faces steady.
“Oh! Your dad had a message for you.” She says, and whispers to King. “I— loaf you? I loaf you.” He chuckles, “Bread pun!” He exclaims, and everyone laughs. [Y/n] sits up and smiles looking at Luz, “Isn't it amazing? We did it. After everything, after all that— we stuck together.” Luz says, and [Y/n] looks at her and smiles, “Yup, we did alright.” Eda says.
“I'll say.” King says.

Honestly at this point I’m waiting for a private talk between siblings on Hunters experience with the Owl Lady. I have to think he thinks of her strange but not in a bad way. When her curse went out of control she apologized to HIM when it wasn’t technically her fault. But she owned up to her own failings in regards to the situation and even expected HIM to chew HER out.
Hunter doesn’t want to think ill of his uncle but it really makes him wonder. Why is Belos satisfied with the way things are if they end up hurting the people he cares about? King didn’t even know about the curse until recently which shows how on top of it all she really was and she didn’t have any help. What does that say about Belos?
(Lol, I know how things really are. These updates really just make me anxious since clearly there might be a divide between Luz and Hunter. Then again maybe Luz can learn a few things also on how she deserves to be treated.)
The next few Hunter-centric episodes are really going to get into this. I think one of the more interesting things about the dynamic the siblings bring is that they're a feedback loop of justifying Belos's behavior – they feel obligated to him because he took both of them in when he didn't have to, and it's not like he can control the outbursts (from their perspective). Hunter being away from Luz breaks that dynamic, and he's getting different perspectives on family that makes him think things aren't... great with Belos.
The contrast between Eda who puts effort into making sure King doesn't have to worry about her, and Belos who makes his outbursts the GG's problem is VERY purposeful. Plus, it's fun knowing Luz isn't getting this same crash-course in character development that Hunter is getting.

In half siblings AU right now, do Hunter and Luz realize how different their guardians are? Like, does Luz realize that Hunter’s guardian (whether or not she realizes it’s Belos in his personal capacity) would hurt him for perceived disloyalty or interest in “wild magic”? Does Hunter realize Eda isn’t dangerous to Luz and could relatively easily be brought around to at least tolerating Hunter?
On Luz's side of things, she does know that Belos is Hunter's 'Uncle' and only family, and that Wild Magic is, to Hunters knowledge, what killed the rest of their family. She doesn't know for sure that Belos is physically abusive, since Hunter still wants to believe that Belos is the Good Guy and as such downplays all of that to Belos being 'strict' and 'overprotective'.
If Luz ever got proof that her suspicions are true, she already has a plan on how to get into the castle and kidnap Hunter ready to go. She really, really hopes that things between Hunter and Belos aren't as bad as she fears. Luz always makes a point to 'subtly' let Hunter know he can come over to the Owl House whenever he needs.
She really hopes he trusts her enough to take her up on that offer someday.

For Hunter, he's doing some Olympic level mental gymnastics to reconcile everything Belos had spent his whole life teaching him with everything he's learned and observed from being Luz's friend, and from having so many interactions with the Owls.
He's noticed how similar his and Luz's family situations are. They both lost their whole family to a mysterious force, they've been raised by a powerful witch who has been dealing with a curse that's been slowly sapping away their health, neither of them are naturally able to do magic on their own so they've had to learn and adapt in ways no-one else has, etc.
Hunter has also noticed how differently he and Luz are treated by their respective guardians. He's at the point where he's kinda blaming himself for this; obviously Luz is doing something correctly that he hadn't figured out yet, otherwise her very loving guardian would be treating her the same way Belos treats Hunter, bc thats a very normal and very healthy way to treat the child you're raising.
Right?
But this is mostly from Hunter being more in denial about Belos being evil than anything. He's learned a lot about Wild Magic from Luz as well as from his own research, and he's realized that there isn't anything more dangerous about it than Coven magic.
He's refusing to admit this to himself. Bc if Wild Magic isn't bad? If getting smacked around isn't a normal way to be disciplined? If Belos is the true villain?
Where does that leave him?
(With three siblings and like, at least five parental figures who all actually care about him while Belos is rotting in hell, but how would he know that?)

In honor of the anniversary of Yesterday's Lie (August 14th), here are two old Vee-centric fics of mine:
If he were an escaped creation of the Emperor (aren't you, though? a little voice whispered), then he certainly wouldn't want to be around the Emperor's nephew and right-hand man (current status notwithstanding). He needs to tell Vee that he is was the Golden Guard. Before she accidentally hears it from someone else.

Ok so I have a in progress owl house AU with the bat family. Now they don't really easily paste into the existing roles so there has to be a bit of editing and small changes. Here is the current role swap list.
Luz: Duke Thomas
Amity: Tim Drake (THIS IS A PLATONIC RELATIONSHIP!!!!)
Gus: Cass?? Maybe?? May give her a more dramatic backstory that Gus and that she left the "Emperors Coven" a while ago???? And she'd be older making Steph the younger one of the 2.
Willow: Steph??? Bc of the relationship between Willow and Amity?? Not quite accurate to Tim and Steph but drama?? Maybe?? Post breakup??
King: IDK YET LMAO
Hooty: Alfred...? Posh hooty....
Hunter: Damian
Golden Guard: Jason Todd
Ok so that needs some explaining, I kinda had to split that character into two because Jason could "die" and then come back as the crimson guard, but Damian fulfills the role of having been related to the Emperor. It'll be weird but kinda work?? I think??
I'm also not sure if I'll make Damian a grimwalker. I may be able to make him one that Talia may have raised?? In replacement of her old child she had with Bruce before they split??

Robin is a palisman that transfers around, Dick Grayson had it first, it being a palisman of one of his parents before they passed. When Jason started to hang around him and Bruce at the bathouse it eventually transfered over to him, and then transferred to Tim afterwards.
Dick Grayson did get a new palisman eventually though!! And it's reminiscent of Nightwing.
Jason does die and gets brought over to the Emperor and becomes the Crimson Knight and is stationed with Damian a lot. So missions Damian goes on, he is there as back up (As per request of Talia). He's a lot like the Young Justice Redhood at this point and my design is also reminiscent of that.
Tim's got the mid parents, may lean into the way Amity's parents are. He also doesn't have older siblings there to help out until Duke shows up and convinces him to go stay at bathouse permanently or something. (Dick and Babs do have a friendship with him though at school and try to get him to go to Dicks house more often but he doesn't)
Haven't thought about Stephs situation enough so if anyone has any ideas!!
As for covens, (I haven't thought about them enough RIP, will be added to as I get my act together)
Dick: Illusionist (Bruce doesn't have as bad of a relationship with the school as Eda did, though it did get worse after Dick started going!!"
My thought process was Illusionist is a very performative coven and he is a performer at heart <3

Since you think Owl House could have been better if they combined Amity and Hunter as the redemption teen with bad parent and Willow and Gus as Luz's first Hexside friend, do you think Amphibia also could be better off if they combined Sprig and Polly as Anne's frog sibling that's reckless (since Sprig's too static and Polly barely gets many focus episodes) and Sasha and Marcy as Anne's toxic and redeemed friend (since Marcy kinda got the short end of the stick in season 3)?

'Static' characters aren't necessarily a bad thing so long as their interiority is explored (how they think and feel about a variety of things that are important to them). Because Anne's frog family is small, I know in depth what Polly and Sprig's personalities are like, how they behave, etc. They're part of the core cast and they always feel like it.
The main issue I have with TOH isn't that Gus and Willow aren't main characters, it's that they don't even feel like main side characters. I feel like I know more about Amity's twin siblings than I know about Luz's best friends. Which again, wouldn't be as Noticeable if they didn't put such an emphasis on Luz's main human world problem being that she had a hard time making friends.
Overall: TOH has a LOT of characters and, because it's always set in the same place, doesn't have a good justification for a lack of focus on them. Whereas in Amphibia, Anne and the Plantars travelling, and the girls are purposefully separated (narratively) and have to travel to reunite, so there's an in-universe reason they're not always having the opportunity to be around each other. For Luz, it's just because she didn't feel like shooting her best friends who live two streets over a text (for whatever reason).
Amphibia also can't combine Sasha and Marcy because those characters represent different themes and different complications in the girls' layered friendship. The main reason I posited combining Amity and Hunter is that they're basically the exact same character and character arc Theme Wise, just with differing personalities and stakes.
I also rarely post about Amphibia so idk why you thought I'd like... want to Improve it in this manner? Is it because they're 'sister shows'? But yeah Amphibia has the worldbuilding, pacing, and good distribution of its ensemble cast (Marcy was introduced later than both Anne and Sasha and ultimately was less effected by Amphibia, even if it was still really meaningful for her; she was never meant to have the same narrative weight) that TOH never quite managed for me, even in S1 and S2.
TLDR; if you're gonna 'merge' characters, you gotta make sure that would strengthen the themes they embody. TOH isn't a very thematic series in terms of like, Deeper meaning (what you see is what you get, and what you get is meaningful just not like, Drawing on much, if that makes any sense?) and that's okay. Amphibia just has significantly more to say theme wise, partially because it lets its main leads all be significantly more flawed as people.

So as an impromptu follow-up to my rambling little TOH post on how Luz and Hunter aren't really the 'siblings' that the fandom likes to paint them as and how it's really Hunter's friendships with Willow and Gus that are the more meaningful/consequential...
Consider this:
Luz and Hunter are more cousins than they are siblings.
They're good friends and sort of related thematically but also aren't as close as they are with their found/adoptive family; Luz with King, Amity or Eda, Hunter with Gus, Willow or Darius.

The phrase "the fact that you need to make up justifications for Lunter only proves the fact that it's problematic" really makes me wanna kill.
If I wanted to, I could make up hundreds of reason, why Lumity or Huntlow are "problematic" as well and they would sound the same as Lunter's ones. The thing is that Im sane enought not to want make things look problematic just bc there are "questionable" (not even really) things about that.
Like I could say without any rubber smth like
"Eda is basically Luz's mother and Lilith is Amity's mother figure, so Lumity are causins"
"If Lunter are siblings, Darius adopted Hunter and married Alador, so Lumity are sisters"
"Amity tried to kill Luz, so it's toxic"
"Luz doesn't trust Amity, so it's toxic"
"Luz and Amity have clearest parallels with Eda and Lilith, so they are sisters too"
And
"Hunter likes Willow, cause she's an authority figure to him, who doesn't give him a choice and make him do only what she wanted to, without asking Hunter, just like Belos, so it's depensive relationship"
"Willow has a low low self-esteem and Hunter who admires everything Willow does and who does only what she wants to and acts weak with her makes her feel worth, so she just uses him to rise her self-esteem and it makes, so it's co-depensive relationship"

hunter noceda is a headcannon. a very popular one, but a headcannon nonetheless. imo it's more likely that dadrius is canon, but that's an entire separate debate.
luz calling him family can be interpreted in many different ways. while in canon it is certainly in a more sibling like way, people wanting it to be in a more romantic way aren't being gross.
where did dana confirm their family dynamic? genuinely curious on this one, ive never seen anything about this (im guessing it might've been on twitter which i don't use)
while hunter and luz could be seen as parallels to philip and caleb, there are several different parallels you can draw between luz and the wittbane bros. heck, in the context of lunter, you can compare them to caleb and evelyn!
a bit more unrelated to your post and more related to the shipping side of the fandom as a whole, i feel like this fandom needs to learn the difference between found family and biological family. found family is supposed to have unconventional dynamics. lunter, in some interpretations, can be a part of that. so can ships like willuz. or lavender winter. heck, even camilraeda fits in here too.
point is, the shippers in this fandom need to learn that not all headcannons are universal, and people are gonna ship stuff you won't like. that's fine! you don't have to like everything! but the key to getting around it is to block and move on, not call it proshipping in an attempt to demonize it.
i don't really know where i was going with this in the end, but im sick of the shipping discourse. this is some of ya'lls first fandom and it SHOWS.

What do you think of swap aus that have Luz and Belos in each other roles, only Luz wants to exterminate humanity instead of witchkind?
This feels like bait cause there's been discourse surrounding this but alright, I'll bite.
First of all the way you phrased it is so funny cause you went straight for "what if luz wants to kill humans" and idk how that would even work? Was she raised on the BI or sth? But no matter cause the whole premise just sucks. AUs are AUs but genocide isn't something that your average person will do if you just place them in some specific circumstances. Cause the specific conditions that made Belos aren't sth very repeatable for us to be able to put anyone in his role and call it a day. Like,,,how many people would choose to go on a genocide mission instead of accepting the loss and the fact that your sibling needed space and even if you think they're going to hell? You end up letting them go. Ppl who have gone through similar things, could end up very diff and the show even reflects that in Caleb and Philip.
So what I'm saying is, just cause a character is placed in Philips circumstances, doesn't mean they gonna jump straight to genocide. His situation was dependent on personality, actions, circumstances and some swaps are harder to justify. You just end up with the same character but with diff appearance and that is shitty writing.
Plus Luz is a poc, this is sth that can be ignored for her to be written as someone who would go and commit genocide against whoever, humans or witches. Like, that's sth that has to be taken into account but even beside this, like I said most in Philips circumstances won't do what he did, your writing just can't justify it and you end with a contrived AU. Yeah you can swap, but is it gonna be good? Not really 🫤
(idk swap AUs treat genocide like its a common man's crime that everyone will commit if they were in Philips situation and it's no common man's crime at all; you don't just go and commit genocide if your circumstances are shit or hunter would have been going on a rampage by now, with no desire to reflect at all but he ain't his uncle so it's yet another representation of "ppl in the same circumstances will react differently to things")

Its like. To luz, most of her friends/family have someone else in their lives that would lessen the impact if she were to, say, dramatically sacrifice herself for her friends. Perhaps in the events of the finale? This isnt true. She isnt replaceable. But luz is as close to suicidal as they can make her if they want to keep the shows rating and i can see her thinking that.
Her mom has vee now, another daughter in case her first daughter dies. Gus and willow, her best friends, are close with hunter. Maybe closer than they are with luz now, since shes been avoiding them. By the time they get back, eda will probably have gotten together with raine. King may have even befriended the collector. (though based on danas art hes probably just in a perpetual state of "mom pick me up im scared") and no matter what, eda and king will have each other like they did before luz. we dont know what luz was planning to do with her palisman when she decided to permanently stay in the human realm, but hunter is now conveniently without a palisman, so she could just let him use hers.
Hunter definitely has a family in camila but we dont really know if his relationship with vee is anything like his relationship with luz. If luz were to sacrifice herself, hed lose a sister. Or at least a trauma bestie. Or whatever found family niche he considers luz to be in. And amity? There is nothing luz could do to convince herself that amity would be fine being left behind. But luz already toyed with ending that relationship when she decided to stay in the human realm. It hurts, but i can see luz justifying to herself that whatever dramatic sacrifice shes planning is for the good of everyone and its worth breaking amitys heart.
And ofc by the power of good storytelling, good rep, and disneys s&p department theres no way luz and her friends aren't going to get a happy ending. She'll try to dramatically sacrifice herself as the climax of her character arc but her loved ones will save her. And then theyll finally get it through her head that she has value as a person, actually. And then lumity will kiss and the animation will get all smooth and the framerate will get high enough for them to do sick spells and defeat belos. And camila will adopt the collector and make him the powerful last of their kind noceda-clawthorne sibling #4. And the show will end with luz going to therapy or smth.
