Life has taught me so much about love over the past decade. I used to think love looked like always trying to convince someone that you were good enough for them. Love meant playing games and hiding your hand; never showing your true feelings for fear that you would lose somebody's respect. Engaging in an emotionally-draining rollercoaster ride of hot and cold mixed signals. Love entailed expecting everyone to walk all over you and having to protect yourself from that. Love was acting like you couldn't care less, when really you couldn't care more. Over the past year, that has all changed for me. I have seen that love can be having someone who is sure about you, without needing any convincing. Love can look like telling someone your deepest secrets, without being terrified that they will run. Love can be gaining respect by showing your weaknesses, rather than losing it. Love can be pouring your heart out about how much someone means to you and seeing that you expressing it has meant the world to them. Of course, I can't paint love to be perfect. It can definitely mean disagreements, trouble and tears at times. But now I know that, even after an argument, real love is saying sorry, cuddling close and talking things through. For the longest time I was jaded, thinking I had to act like someone else to get anybody to stay interested in me. But experiencing honest, vulnerable, stable love like this firsthand is the most beautiful gift the past decade has given me. U Want Me 2 What?) is an unreleased track recorded in September or October 1990, at Larrabee Sound Studios in North Hollywood, California during recording sessions for the New Power Generation maxi-single (during the same set of sessions as the N.P.G. (Funky Weapon Remix), T.C.'s Rap, Tony’s Iggnant Mix, Get Off, The Lubricated Lady, Loveleft, Loveright, a segue later included in the N.P.G. (Funky Weapon Remix), Oobey Doop, Heaven Is Keeping Score, and additional recording on My Tree and A Positive Place). The song about kissing opens with Robin Power saying "you want me to what?" (also used in Number One and New Power Generation (Pt. II)), as sort of a segue connecting it to a previous song on an earlier configuration of the New Power Generation maxi-single. It then starts with an acoustic one-chord guitar vamp and has Prince almost begging: Can you come outside and... play?. It was included as the eleventh track (tenth song) on an October 1990 configuration of the New Power Generation maxi-single. It was included (as U Want Me 2 What?) as the seventh song on another October 1990, configuration, but the track was removed from the final release, and the track remains unreleased.
