the issue with AI chatbots is that they should NEVER be your first choice if you are building something to handle easily automated forms.... consider an algorithmic "choose your own adventure" style chatbot first
it really seems to me that the air canada chatbot was intended to be smth that could automatically handle customer service issues but honestly... if you do not need any sort of "human touch" then i would recommend a "fancier google form"... like a more advanced flowchart of issues. If you NEED AI to be part of your chatbot I would incorporate it as part of the input parsing - you should not be using it to generate new information!

what do you think are the most important things to utilize if someone wanted to learn to amplify their tech-literacy/tech-using experience?
We all know about add-block and anti-tracker add-ons, I'm thinking things like using github for various things, downloading youtube vids using yt-dlp. etc. etc. Bonus points if you can drop guides/how-tos
Other examples are things you can do with word, like adding macros, etc.
Also, what are your favourite non-game programs and apps? This could be anything.
i'm hoping to get a list where lots of folks can add on so if you could reblog that would be awesome

i had such a good and interesting characterisation thought re. TK in the context of replying to this ask but i don't remember what it was very clearly and so i'm just. sitting here. trying to trigger the same thought
#something something tk would believe/deny it blind. because the idea that a team (even a sub-sub-sub-team) could be betrayed that badly#just wouldn't enter his vocabulary of allowable events#it would not Occur to him that someone might have left the boys for dead like that#marjan would believe it. it would occur to her. she especially has the media literacy for it but also she is not a. cis white man#right? right? but i don't remember exactly how i wanted that point to come up in the newspaper thing and i don't know how i decided#the others were going to fall on that line and anyway#tk would not be UNWILLING to see it he just would miss it the first few times someone said it bc he would not#be expecting to see it. he Would Not be expecting to see it.#'vocabulary of allowable events' is a good way to put it good work me#who would do that? who would just Set Them Up?#that's not even. those details wouldn't be In. there's like Steps to this characterisation even appearing at all#it would not be a direct one-to-one conversation about it just a. note somewhere abstractly that even if it DID come up he wouldn't have#the tools to believe it. .... i am getting lost.#i know the thought is in there i just keep sitting down to write it and going ahhhhhh!#''aster could this not be a direct message'' yeah but i wasn't planning it to be a whole talking it out in the tags#and now they're all in the tags#and now u get this. love u squid#tbd#when i actually write the thing instead of sitting here. contemplating#plus also it . does not require a response im just out louding. cause it's neat!#it's about tk!#it's about who he is at his core including the messy and a little bit mean (accidentally) bits!#sighs sighs sighs sighs. i love him

Why comics and graphic novels like ‘Maus’ are effective teaching tools
Tumblr media
by Ian Thomsen
“I started making comics as a way to try to help my students grasp the difficult concepts,” Landherr said at the Boston Kids Comics Fest, which drew about 1,000 visitors Saturday to Northeastern’s Curry Student Center. He was selling copies of his comic series, “PhD Unknown,” at an exhibitor’s table promoting his engineering education research group, Science The World, which is home to dozens of comics covering data analysis, gene therapy, refrigeration cycles, momentum transfer and other complex topics.  “I’ve seen exam grades go from 62 to 80,” Landherr says of the effectiveness of the comics as a university teaching tool. “Over the course of a couple of semesters I’ve had students make their own comics as an assignment in the class, even though it’s an engineering class.”

ok I wanna talk about these posts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now I don't wanna say these posts are wrong or that I disagree with them, but they are only two of many that I see in a similar vein and my general take is: We need to change the way we have this conversation.
Because yes. It is true that young people get indoctrinated on TikTok (and other platforms including tumblr!) in the same way older generations get indoctrinated through FOX News or Facebook.
But we can't let these conversations always start and stop with "these groups are gullible and THIS vague entity is responsible for it and I am so smart for realising this and they're stupid for not realising it".
We need to finally start solution-oriented conversations. We need people who don't just point at the problem but actually talk about how we can fix it.
TikTok has an issue with misinformation that users don't have the tools to recognise?
Well here's a list of only a few of the TikTok accounts that fight this issue right on the platform where they can get these users' attention.
MediaWise
Abbie Richards
Aslan Pahari
Astro Alexandra
Professor Casey
Hank Green
Adam Conover
All of these, to varying degrees, correct misinformation and/or provide tools to promote media literacy. Some even want to help change the platform altogether.
I know not everyone who wants to help can do things like this, but a good place to start helping change things would be to support these accounts and all the other people out there doing what they do. Most of them are on other platforms or have websites (or Patreon/Ko-Fi/etc bc monetary support for these efforts is important too) if you don't wanna get a TikTok account to help them get more attention.
And here is a Masterpost where I collect resources for how to improve your own media literacy and how to help others do the same (and I promise you, no matter how smart or skilled or media-literate you think you are, you will learn something new from these). This masterpost is updated regularly and includes a longer list of TikTok users to follow as well.
So next time you see a post like this about how stupid TikTok users are for falling for conspiracies or how Facebook is nothing but fake news or whatever, think about whether the post is actually helping in some way or only trying to make tumblr users feel superior over others, and maybe try to share something you learned here instead.

im way more afraid of the long term effects of hormonal birth control+IUDs than i am medical or herbal abortions
like ovulation is actually really important for your long term bone density! so id like to keep that goin yfm??
im glad hormonal bc is out there for other people for health or sex but after i learned my own fertility patterns, practice FAM, and became and herbalist im not worried about pregnacy or pregnacy scares.
FAM/fertility autonomy its freeing bc youre actually DIRECTLY incharge of if or when you actually wanna have a child or not, gives u the power to prevent egg implantion or to go ahead with an abortion, or helps you track your PCOS or transition into menopause, and helps you have body literacy in other areas too!
wish more ppl knew theres other options besides standardized birth control bc if were gonna be honest, all of them are very sucky.... and for me getting nutted in isnt worth that hassle of birth control
