do secular people who didn't grow up with religion even know how many gay academics studying religion there are
"my academic study of christian apocrypha makes me anathema to all other gay men" have you tried meeting ex-catholics, or current episcopalians. maybe hanging out around seminaries. come on man it's like you're not even trying

Have you ever done an au where the boys are farmers? :]
I did once before, but hey. Nothing wrong with more farm. And as a certified country bumpkin who has lived/worked on many a farm in her life, I feel I'm uniquely qualified for this au ;)
It makes sense that all three boys would work on the same self-sustaning farm. 'Cousins' taking care of the same land, and everything. Maybe Mc is the cute girl who lives nearby and finds herself taking up odd jobs for them every now and then, for some spare cash...?
Sans: ... Mc bumps into him a lot, whether she's helping out on the farm or just passing by their fields on her way to somewhere else. He's always friendly, always greets her- always smiling up at her from under his goofy straw hat and telling terrible farm-related jokes so he can grin at her laughter. She can usually spot him napping in a field somewhere; when she asks what he's doing he always says he's 'working'.
To be fair to him, what he's 'working' on is always complete to perfection. All the hay around him has been baled despite no machines in sight, all the vegetables have been pulled and packed into their boxes, all the dirt has been tilled in perfect straight lines. She's got no clue how he does it.
If she's ever working with him (say, they're packing fruit together) he's always trying to encourage her to flunk it and nap with him. He knows all the best resting spots in a mile radius... and when she does crack and nap with him, it's the best rest she's had in a long time.
Red: He's a fieldhand who doubles as a pretty decent handyman. It's not unusual to catch him moving around in oil-stained dungarees with a toolbox tucked under one arm and a cigarette between his teeth, repairing any machinery that needs a loving touch. Other farms occasionally hire him out to repair whatever busted old thing they're not ready to let go of yet, and he's picked up a reputation for being able to repair anything.
... That's not the only thing he's picked up a reputation for, though. Red's got a good relationship with most of the other farms... mostly because he's banged a decent percentage of all the nearby fieldhands. He's famously good with his hands, after all.
Mc likes him, he's charming and somehow manages to smell good despite always being covered in motor oil. He likes to show off to her by helping her with her chores and lifting heavy shit with his big arms... she's flattered by his obvious interest in her. But she's also aware of his reputation, and isn't super keen to get cuddly just yet.
Skull: He mostly handles animals. He's got that quiet, strong demeanour that they like. He doesn't talk to people, or go out much, he's a bit of an urban legend in the area. He's much more comfortable around animals than people; animals don't judge him for how he looks, or expect him to talk, or care that he smells like hide all the time.
Mega crush on Mc from the first moment he sees her, which only exacerbates his usual anxieties around people and makes him super shy. Even though she makes him nervous, he really likes when she drops by the barns to help him with the animals. She's the only one who regularly visits. Silently feeding the chickens while he listens to her talk is one of his favourite activities in the whole world.
While Red's showing off is intentional, Skull tends to show off completely accidentally. He often lifts up stupidly heavy things without thinking; effortlessly slinging several bags of feed onto his shoulders, despite each bag individually being so heavy she couldn't even push one across the floor. He doesn't understand why her face flushes so much when he lifts big bales. Maybe she's been out in the sun too long?

So what’s Argyros’ personality like?? And what’s her backstory, if you don’t mind sharing? I know I’m pretty late to this but man the design is SO cool and I’m invested
Tumblr media
Here's a fresh Argy doodle to go with the answers!
The personality: They're carefree, highly social, sometimes a bit too direct, and quite flirty. She craves human (in a broad sense) connection and she's highly social. Which means Argy is absolutely thriving right now as they're just studying medicine at the moment.
They came with quite a lot of medical knowledge and studying is an attempt to try to know why did they even have that in their database and personality. It's almost a bit of an obsession: She feels the need to study every little bit that makes up flesh-based lifeforms, because she feels they're far too fragile. Argyros is caring to an uncomfortable degree at times, but it comes from their need to ensure everyone is in perfect condition.
They're more than happy to help heal a wound and maybe study you a bit on the way. And their skills as a healer are quite good, even if having a dozen eyes and a giant halo on you can be a bit overwhelming.
Despite his fairly open attitude, he speaks little of his concerns or worries, and does rarely share any detail about his more personal thoughts. There's definitely something wrong with them, but there's just one person they've talked about this. Despite how much Argyros love putting others back together, they keep themselves quite private.
The backstory: I can't really share all that much since it's spoilery for my fellow players (as she's gonna be a NPC in a Pathfinder 2e game), but she basically has not much of an idea about it herself. She was suddenly aware of existing one day, and had some memories and knowledge, but no exact idea of where were they made, and for. Trying to find a place to fit in was hard, and trying to search for answers was even harder: It seems there is something actively trying to not let them do so.
They're not entirely sure where does their divinity come from either. It's not unusual for people to be born with extraplanar influences, but Argyros was either created or infused with that divinity. But she doesn't know who or why, and isn't too willing to admit that they just have no clue. One of the main party members is gonna be a proper celestial, and I'm sure they'll be a bit of at odds about this!

Matchmaker - pt. 4 (Rolan x Tav)
Today you were going to meet Rolan at Ramazith's Tower as he had asked you to. You were unsure how you were supposed to be in front of his siblings, probably you were expected to hold his hand, but should you kiss him?
Maybe you should have talked about this some more, but you honestly had been too stunned to ask more questions. You had never expected such an unusual request from him. He probably would have a few people at hand he could date? He was good looking and if he tried to leave his snarky attitude at home, you could even consider him nice. He was smart too and studied a lot lately so his skills with magic should've improved as well.
But after all you had agreed, so questioning it now was kind of pointless.
When you arrived at Ramazith's Tower you went through the portal to get to the upper floors, where you expected Rolan and his siblings.
Lia greeted you the second you stepped through the portal, seems like she was already expecting you.
"It's so good to see you! You look amazing.", she said.
You thanked her as she pointed to where Rolan was sitting and started walking over to where he was studying.
When you were nearly there you heard Lia call over Cal to watch you two. There weren't even trying to be subtle about it, both watching you curiously.
Rolan was sitting at a desk nearby, focused on his book. He looked deep in thought as it seemed he didn't even hear you and Lia talk a few seconds ago, his eyes scanning over the pages, eyebrows furrowed.
When you stood beside him you wrapped your arms around his shoulders, your chin resting on one of them and he was startled at the sudden hug, but relaxed once he realized it is you.
"Your siblings are staring at us.", you whispered into his ear.
"I thought so.", he said quietly, his head turned to you slightly as he tried to look into your face.
"I'm pretty sure they expect you to kiss me.", you told him. Your heart was beating quickly just when you thought about it and you hoped he wouldn't notice the blush on your cheeks.
"Are you okay with that?", he asked, his tone sounded kind of shocked, like he wasn't expecting you to even consider kissing him.
"Well.. they are supposed to think we are dating and I agreed to that already."
"You're right."
His eyes were on your lips and he looked back to your eyes like he was still expecting you to pull away or to refuse. Quickly he placed a short kiss on your lips, too short to even give you a chance to notice how his lips felt. He avoided his gaze from you quickly and focused back on his book, to hide the fact how flustered he was.
You still saw the blush on his cheeks and you couldn't help but smile. At least you weren't the only one blushing.
"Aww, are you blushing?", you said. You couldn't resist on teasing him a little, like your heart wasn't beating like crazy just for the short moment you had felt his lips on yours.
"Shush, I am busy studying.", he said like he wasn't aware that you could see the blush even on his skintone.
"Of course, my bad.", you responded and chuckled as you loosened your embrace.
You started looking around, taking a book out of the shelves and looking through it to see if it's something you would enjoy reading. The high bookshelves offering an overwhelming amount of books, holding as much wisdom about magic as you could ever imagine.
You feel his eyes on you while you looked around and turned towards him.
"You are distracting me.", he said.
"What am I supposed to do? Sit and do nothing while you study? Let me at least find something to read."
"Fine, hurry up."
You rolled your eyes and looked at him while he tried to look at his books. His gaze drifted to you many times while he was trying to focus on the book before him.
You grabbed a random book from the shelves, that caught your interest and sat down nearby, a few meters away from him.
"No, come sit here.", he said, pointing to the chair by his side, his tone telling you something was off about him. He acted like the day when Lia and Cal were imprisoned and you talked to him at Last Light. All bitchy and like he was sick of your presence alone.
"Did someone step on your tail today?", you asked him.
"What?"
"Your mood is exceptionally bad today."
"I-.. ugh I am just busy and everyone is getting on my nerves. So please just sit and let me study.", he said, avoiding your gaze.
"Fine."
You sat down next to him, putting your legs over his lap to sit comfortably. He didn't comment on it but you swore the tips of his ears, peaking out from his hair, were definitely a darker shade of red than usual.
After a while his hand rested on your leg, right above your knee, while he was focused on his book. His thumb moving in circles over the fabric of your clothes, caressing you absently.
Your gaze was on his hands, long nails gently moving across your leg while the other one was on his book, turning the pages from time to time.
"This was a bad idea, you are distracing.", he said again.
"Rolan, I'm literally just sitting here.", you responded. Was he being serious?
"I can feel you staring at me."
"So? I'm your girlfriend, I should be looking at you after all.", you said and he knew you were right.
"It's still distracting me."
"Why am I here then?"
"Can you just read and not stare?", he asked of you with a sigh. You had no idea why he was acting like that, but you weren't going to question it. If he didn't want to tell you what's wrong, then that's fine too.
Your eyes focussing back on the book, trying to keep them from wandering off to watch Rolan again.
"Rolan? Tav? Are you hungry? We plan on going to eat something, do you want to join?", Lia called from the portal a few moments later.
"No, I am bus-", he started saying but you interrupted him before he could continue.
"Of course, we would love to!"
"Are you out of your mind?", he hissed at you.
"I'm pretty sure you didn't eat anything yet and you could use a break from studying. Maybe your mood will be better then.", you said and while he looked like he was going to say something, he closed his mouth when he noticed you are right.
"Ugh, you were supposed to be on my side, not on Lia and Cals."
"You asked me to date you, not to be someone to always agree with you. Now lets go eat, darling.", you said teasingly.
You took his hand and pulled him away from the book and joined Lia and Cal.
"Did you fight?", Cal asked when he saw Rolan's face.
"No, he just thought he would get away with not eating.", you said and rubbed your thumb over his hand in yours.
"I'm glad you care for him, when he doesn't do so himself.", Lia said.
"Pff, lets get going then so I can get back to studying soon.", he said, avoiding to look at anyone and pulling you with him through the portal.
Lia and Cal smiled at each other like they were going to tease him about it again.
Rolan really thought he would get away with dating you, expecting the teasing he got from his siblings to just disappear. It wasn't one of his brightest moments.

Ichigo and Rukia in Memories in The Rain are two frustrating idiots
You just can't take them seriously.
Tumblr media
For the first time, since his mother's death, Ichigo forgot about the upcoming anniversarry of his ultimate trauma.
You can pretty much guess by that simple fact how meeting Rukia brought joy to his life and "changed his world"
When she asked him why he became sad, he answered "nothing " and he could had stopped there. However, this is drama queen Ichigo we're talking about.
He had to add loudly "I see ... it's soon " keeping the suspense for Rukia (and us). He made her aware that something was indeed wrong.
Basically, "I'm acting as If I'm shutting myself off from you but not really I want you to know that something is really bothering me"
....
let's move on
Tumblr media
Then later, Ichigo could have stopped at just informing Rukia what it was the anniversary of his mother's death but he had to add that she was killed dramatically under the moonlight.
Ichigo basically gave Rukia the greenlight to talk about his personal life. But when she pushed her luck and wanted to know more, he denied everything.
...
Local tsundere teen sending mixed signals to 200 year old emotionally constipated clueless as hell ghost.
Wonder what will happen
Tumblr media
She was so worried that she eavesdropped on Tatsuki and Orihim's little chat at class. A behaviour that was totally unusual coming from her.
She couldn't hold back her worry when Ichigo told her he was taking his shinigami job off. She even revealed she had been stalking watching him all day long.
However, when Ichigo asked her, why she followed him to the cemetery, she said she was only there for her shinigami duties ...
Of course it is, why would anyone think of any other reason ...
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Then Rukia came out as insensitive telling him maybe a hollow killed her.
Ichigo was pissed off mostly (I think) out of frustration that people were finding excuses instead of blaming him.
Their conversations ended shortly on a tense conclusion : Ichigo saw the girl he wanted to save the day the mother died, fell on his knees baring his heart to Rukia admitting his sin
When you think about it, there is no reason for Ichigo not to avoid talking to Rukia after so much tension, yet...
He slightly smiled greeting her and genuinely asked her if she wanted to continue where they left off
This proves something extremely important which is how lonely Ichigo was and how much he was yearning for someone to support him mentally
and he chose that person to be Rukia....
....
...
The person he met one month ago !!!
over any one of his friends, classmates family members. ??
(what's wrong with him ?!!)
Tumblr media
And his prediction were correct
Rukia who knows about loneliness more than anyone. She tried to try to help Ichigo the best she could.
However, she could only offer him what she herself yearned for the most : not be alone
They both longed for someone they can trust and who won't give up on them.
Ichigo didn't feel surprised by her thoughtful words. It was like he was expecting her to say what he needed the most despite her previous bluntness
When Rukia promised she will be there for him as long as it takes, all Ichigo said was "yeah"...
Kubo being Kubo knows what he's doing, knows how those loser are being soft for each other and will die before admitting it
He basically self inserted himself/ the readers in Kon's place " stop acting so cool. I can't keep up with you guys!"
Remember when kubo was enjoying himself creating this manga and slandering Rukia and Ichigo ? Good times good times
Tumblr media
I guess panels speak for themselves.
Rukia was begging Ichigo to stay alive, screaming at him to stop fighting, being so happy he survived and used all what remained of her power to heal him.
Yet when he thanked her for healing him, she acted as if it was nothing...
Last round,
it turns out Ichigo is the honest one between the two
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ichigo told Rukia he had to go and eventually had an emotional conversation with his father where he confessed his frustrations
Yet he isn't even bothered that Rukia was listening (without his consent )to his private talk.
That's because he wants her to be there
When Rukia offered to be there for him, he really embraced that offer. He wants her to know about every messed up part of him because he knows she would never give up on him.
...
..
Also I guess he doesn't mind Rukia being a shameless stalker
( that was the second time you're stalking him the same day Rukia wth !! At least be more subtle or feel a bit ashamed)

May I please request poly yandere total drama cody and Noah throughout the seasons? Or just a general story when/how they kidnapped their darling and when the darling wakes up?
of course! <3 thanks so much for requesting ! not too proud of this, i really hope you liked it though! i'm so sorry if it isn't exactly what you asked for :(
yandere poly!noco x reader . .
song⤹˚ ; pretty boy by tv girl
cw : un-consensual drug use, kidnapping, gaslighting, manipulation, guilt-tripping, basic yandere behaviour.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
cody and noah are kind of different as yanderes, noah gaslights you, and cody guilt-trips you. they do argue like an old married couple about you though, cody thinks you need space, and noah thinks that'd just give you a chance to run off.
cody's paranoid, but noah is much more paranoid than he'd like to admit.
but they love eachother, and their love for you is stronger than any other feeling they've had. you're a need to them.
and they'd do anything to keep you close by them.
୭ 🧷 ✧ ˚. ᵎᵎ 🎀
geoff had been hosting a reunion party for the contestants, and noah and cody thought this was the perfect chance! you were a sweetheart, of course you were gonna attend. even if you didn't have too.
you looked amazing as usual.
noah and cody were the only few people that you really talked with after the show, so you immediately went to them. you three talked for a bit, well you mainly talked. the two boys looked at you with dreamy stares the entire time along with occasional nods to make it seem like they were listening.
''oh, watch my drink for a sec?'' you handed noah the red solo cup, before turning to lindsay who was waving you over.
it was just too easy, the pill he slipped in wasn't harmful, you were just gonna pass out for a bit, and land directly into their arms..
after lindsay, bless her heart, talked your ear off for a little bit, you walked back to the boys with that smile they've grown too fond of. almost immediately, you took a sip of your now dosed drink.
of course it took a few moments to kick in, you started to see black spots surround your vision after maybe, five minutes? and before you knew it, you dropped. thankfully, cody catching you.
''oh my god, are they okay?'' bridgette spoke worriedly, ''probably just had a bit too much to drink, right, noah?'' cody slightly stumbled over his words, looking at noah for help.
''yeah. don't worry, we'll drive them home.'' noah reassured, putting your limp arm around his shoulder. ''are you two sober enough, though?'' bridgette felt a weird stir in her stomach, something about this wasn't right.
''we're fine.'' cody said with a bit of harshness in his tone.
''..okay.'' she sighed defeatedly.
after what felt like hours, you started to wake up, your vision starting to unblur as you looked around your unfamiliar surroundings, were you dosed? god, who could've done such a thing? were you gonna get murdered?
panicked thoughts ran through your mind as you became more aware.
the more you started to get conscious, the more you realized how much your wrists were hurting.
you blinked a few times trying to see clearer before realizing your wrists were bound by a zip-tie, digging painfully into your skin, it'll probably leave a mark.
''oh, they're finally awake! cody!'' you recognized that montoned voice. it was unusually cheery and you didn't expect to hear that voice at all.
cody had fallen asleep against noah's shoulder waiting for you to wake up, the two were sitting on the floor infront of you.
cody rubbed the sleep away from his eyes before looking at you with a bright smile.
''took you long enough.'' noah smirked, ''noah? cody?'' you were dumbfounded. these were your friends, the two people you trusted with your life.
you grimaced as your head started to pound, ''um, sorry, one of the side effects were headaches..'' cody apologized with a sheepish grin. ''should go away soon, though!'' he said quickly afterwards.
''god, i'm so glad you're here though! my two favorite people in the same room, wow.'' he beamed, hugging you and noah close. you stood completely still in shock, not know how to respond, it was moving so fast. so many things you were questioning in your head, going over habits you looked past with them.
''you should get comfy though, you're probably gonna be here for a bit..'' noah reminded.
''it'll be easy though, three lovebirds finally all together.''

I'm not sure if what I want to confess is more about a-spectrum or neurodivergent maybe but it's about feeling things in a different way than the rest of your surroundings - so maybe some other Aro and Aces would relate?
My memories of reacting "different than normal" begin early:
- as a preschool kid when I was told that I "look pretty" - my reaction was: cry. Maybe I was just a bashfull child not knowing how to deal with a compliment but my mom always thought it was unusual.
- in my primaly school whenever I've been called "brave" after having a shot, vaccine or blood sample taken - my reaction was: feeling confused and kind of humiliated. It got to be clear: the feeling was not caused by having injection itself - but by those words that were meant to be a compliment. Why? At that time I was one of the very few children never crying of fear before vaccination but I thought that everyone else was reacting stupidly (what was the point of crying? they could not avoid the vaccine anyway!). But in my head it was them who were weird, I was normal, obviously: a mature and reasonable little person among those unrationally behaving kids. And now adults talking down to me and making a fuss over my "bravery" when I was just being normal - felt like rejecting my rationality and maturity! By them I was assumed to be just another unreasonable child who only exceptionally behaved the right way. Also if I was told "it won't hurt at all" before injection - it felt wrong as well: I took really a lot of shots (treating my otitis as 3 yo) and I've been perfectly aware of that it DOES hurt but in bearable way - so why must you lie to me?! Just do what you have to and let me go, don't treat me like an idiot!
- years later, in my early 20's - when I noticed my peers getting excited about hot stuff and sex topic I felt the same as with injections: I am that rare reasonable, grown up and seriously behaving person surrounded by overreacting immature youth. I got interested in sexual stuff myself too,  but unlike others - I felt like it's nothing to joke at and like nothing I ever wanted to talk about with anyone. My interest in sex gradually became some kind of passion - but it was strictly theoretical and never attached to any particular person around me. Now I already studied scientific stuff about it as well as movies and pictures for years - and whenever I hear anyone using a word "virgin" or insinuations that someone who never had sex therefore is naive and unexperienced - I get that feeling of being humilated: like rejecting my knowledge and maturity all over again! Just because I never done it myself doesn't mean others know more about it than me!
- I know I'm aro-ace cause I never enjoyed anyone touching me in the sexual way or using too much diminutives when talking to me. Just thinking about it makes me feel confused again - as if I was mistaken for somebody else. Sorry, I am independent adult person, not to be used as a sex toy nor be treated like a child - talk to me, treat my body serious, don't underestimate me!
- I feel less uncomfortable thinking about pain. Like when I use electric depilator to remove my legs hairs - it feels satisfying and almost pleasurous. When I went to the spa once with my friend - I could not force myself to take a massage (I hate being tickled so much I might reflexively hit someone in defence). Yet I enjoyed having a body peeling very much. I guess I'd rather like to be scratched than caressed. I sometimes wonder if maybe I would potentially enjoy BDSM instead of sex?
Is anyone else of you Aro and Ace people feeling so confused about others misinterpreting your attitude? Like about diminishing your actions as exeptional and not treating you, your words and your knowledge seriously enough?

Imma done with duskwood lmao 😂 Too long waiting, I wrote my own ending and now I lost interest in duskwood xD I know they are a small group of developers but they must realize their fandom is slowly dying :( It's sad but it is the truth 🥺 I see so many duskwood writer going quiet or writing OG works....
Well, that's very sad. But I don't think the fandom is dying. Not at all. First of all, it's January, trust me when I tell you, it's always very quiet in January. It's a stressful time. While December for example is more way more active. People have more time and winter makes more people to stay at home etc. It's not unusual for this time. Nevertheless, I do understand a bit what you mean. Of course we're waiting for Moonvale for a longer time now, but I think it's understandable. At least, I was expecting a long time for it to come out.
And I'm pretty sure they're aware of it... I see enough people starting to hate on them, leaving mean comments on Instagram etc. They know we're all waiting and they also know people become more and more inpatient. And I guess it's for them as hard as it is for us. I don't know what is going on there at Everbyte, but I'm very sure if they could they would work faster. But I think they already use every possible second to work on it. I mean, for them it's their income, their way to earn money, I don’t think they can just put Moonvale aside and chill, haha. Maybe they even have a second job, I don’t know, we don't know about the circumstances. I'm repeating myself, but I am convinced that this situation is difficult for Everbyte as well. And I don’t think they themselves expected it to take that long.
Still, I understand what you’re saying and how you mean it, but now, I think losing interest in things is normal. It happens all the time. And especially since Duskwood has been finished for quite some time now, the hype disappears at some point, but with luck it comes back. I mean, have you ever watched a movie you really liked but then you had to wait 3 or 4 or even more years for the second part? You’re not as excited about the movie every single day as you were the first time. You wait, maybe you lose interest in time, as I said, it’s normal. When the film is released, when it is finally ready, the joy often comes back. The movie was released and then you can decide if you want to watch it anyway, if it is worth trying, or if you are not interested anymore. Both is possible. Of course it's sad if you're absolutely done with it but it's simply normal and I don't think you can do anything about it.
And whether there is a connection between Moonvale and the more frequent occurrence of original works that I can not judge. I rather think it's simply because it's way easier to reach people with writing fanfiction. So, you can write fanfiction, write things you enjoy a lot and then you're interested in writing something made by yourself from top to bottom. You already reached some people so if you're lucky, maybe they will also be interested in an original work. I know many writers who simply never dared to publish original stories. But if one persons starts to publish their work other might get the missing courage to do it as well.
And yes, it’s also true that many Duskwood writers don’t post that much anymore. Of course, it will also be due to the fact that everyone’s joy and the excitement decreases a little after a while. Just like it happened with you. And that's okay as well. But I can also tell you that some people don’t read as many Duskwood fanfictions as before, which can be very demotivating for writer. But it’s also that the time we live in is nothing but hectic and exhausting. So much is going on. Everyone has so much stress. Health problems became much more present. Time is simply the enemy for many, the exhaustion does not allow people to write because something else is always going on. But in every other fandom it is no different, absolutely not. But because the Duskwood fandom is so much smaller it just stands out much faster. It's much more visible.
It's just a hard time in general. :/
Please don’t get my words wrong. I don't want to sound mean or rude or anything. Really. And I do understand what you mean and sometimes I even feel similar. It's a pity you're feeling this way by now but as I said, it's nothing unusual. It's sad when you lose things that used to bring you happiness but I think you can do nothing about it. I just hope at some point your excitement will be back and maybe you're even going to play Moonvale. I think it is not good to force yourself to like something if you have really lost interest. And instead of Duskwood and moonvale, I hope you find something else to enjoy. 💚
Still, thank you a lot for sending this ask and especially for sharing your thoughts with me/us. It means a lot to me. And I hope the 'situation' will improve for you again. I hope you're doing good so far. Please take always care of yourself and stay healthy and safe. Have a good day/evening/night. 💚💚

August 2023 Books
The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion Vol. 1-6 by Beth Brower
Although I had to fight myself a bit to ignore anachronisms, I did enjoy these! The earlier ones more than the later ones, but I will definitely be continuing this series as more come out.
And I know it's setting us up to ship, but am I horrible for thinking that none of Emma's potential suitors are a good fit
Towers in the Mist by Elizabeth Goudge
I normally like most of Goudge's books, but I regret I had a hard time getting through this one. As ever, the prose was lovely, but I struggled to get invested in the characters.
Deep Secret by Diana Wynne Jones
I liked this one on the whole, but it took me forever to finish for some reason! I've started the sequel and am finding that it's more approachable, or maybe I'm just reading it at a better time.
Father's Arcane Daughter by E. L. Konigsburg (reread)
This is a bizarre book, but I love it and keep coming back to it. The characters may not be easy to like, but what's behind it is evident, and the emotion very poignant. There's also a TV film adaptation (titled Caroline? and it's free to stream in a few places) that's pretty close to the book and well-done.
Beyond Authority and Submission: Women and Men in Marriage, Church, and Society by Rachel Green Miller
I don't read a lot of books like this, but someone around here recommended it, and I've been struggling for a while with this issue, so I picked it up. Miller makes a lot of good points and I really appreciated what she had to say (and wish I could share this perspective with some churches I'm familiar with).
The Aviary by Kathleen O'Dell (reread)
The initial setup and atmosphere of the book are great, but I regret that I didn't enjoy this one as much on the reread and probably won't be visiting it again.
The Edge of In Between by Lorelai Savaryn (reread)
I reread this one as a refresher while researching the TSG paper and was able to put more of a finger on why this one doesn't work for me, either as a story or as a retelling. It's not just that Savaryn completely changes the themes and focus of the story she's retelling, but the result is heavy-handedly allegorical. Reminders that This Is A Metaphor For Grief are everywhere. Characters feel less like living humans than representations of things. They're oddly self-aware of their problems and all their causes and there's a lot of talking like a grief counseling session rather than ordinary people. It feels like A Message that happens to have a story rather than the other way around. Even in a middle-grade book, there should still be room for the reader to independently think about and analyze the themes rather than have everything spelled out, and I didn't get much of that here.
Wintle's Wonders, Circus Shoes, and White Boots by Noel Streatfeild (reread)
I was in a shoes reread mood, and a bit curious if the British editions (as two of these are) differed significantly from the American editions. White Boots seemed pretty similar to Skating Shoes, but Wintle's Wonders has a noticeable amount of material that's cut from Dancing Shoes. Mostly details that flesh out the world and characters a bit more, but there's also a conversation between Rachel and her uncle about her late father (his brother) that furthers their bond and should have been left in.
I love Streatfeild's protagonists. A lot. Even though most of them are unusually talented in the arts or a sport, they feel very real. Rachel Lennox is important to me because she's a very rare thing: a quiet, shy, bookish fictional heroine who isn't also perfectly nice and sweet but angry and frustrated and understandable for it even when she's mistaken and it's relatable. I want to protect poor exploited child-celebrity-in-the-making Lalla, despite her occasional obnoxiousness. And Peter and Santa's weird isolated upbringing that leaves them unequipped to handle the real world...strikes a chord, even if the way Streatfeild plays out their arcs doesn't always work for me.
Also apparently circuses in the late 1930s did have whole families of performers who lived and traveled with the shows, if the portrait that Streatfeild offers of that life is accurate. It lends a bit of surprising plausibility to the background of a certain famous fictional circus child who debuted in 1940.
Speaking of which...I've read a lot of comics in the last few weeks.
Damage (1994)
A rather obscure series that didn't get to live up to its potential because of an early cancellation. It's got its share of clichés (like a girl whose personality is basically "love interest" and who gets fridged) and dated stuff, but Grant is a compelling character who's worth reading the series for.
Various issues of New Titans
I was just here for pre-Alabama Bart and Grant. No idea what's going on with anyone else, but these boys were robbed of a promising friendship.
Titans (1999) #1-19 plus a few others
I was mostly here for a continuation of Grant's story after he got stuck in canceled-book limbo, but I also got sucked into all the Drama with the five original Titans, who are all on the team when the book begins. There's not a lot of Grant, but what's there is well done. Some weird elements in this series, and some plotlines I didn't love, but I appreciate the overall character-focused approach.
Jason's (re)introduction in Batman, A Death in the Family, and Under the Hood
I knew the gist of all this already but actually reading it all...yikes. Sad about this forever.
Superman: Last Son and The Third Kryptonian
I want to be familiar with all the kids in the superfam, which means I need to meet Chris. More of these to come. So far there hasn't been much done with his character. But he meets Tim at one point and they have some cute interactions, which I appreciated.
The stories that focus on the action aren't so much my thing, but I like that sometimes the series slows down to allow the characters to take a breather and bond. There's an issue that's just the family going to a beautiful other world/dimension to have a picnic and chat...and that's basically all that happens, and it's refreshing.
The Life Story of the Flash
Silver Age comics were wild. What even were some of those storylines. But the narrative does its best to ground the mythos's established ridiculousness in the humanity of the characters, which works.
Why don't we have any adaptations that give us this book's characterization of Barry? He's analytical, methodical, scientifically-minded, and a neat freak. He proudly wears bow ties, a crew cut, and a pocket protector. He's a certified Iowa boy and a comics nerd. He doesn't want a reporter to take his picture after he solves a case at his civilian job because he isn't the story. He considers himself boring and when his girlfriend tells him she finds his analytical mind attractive he coughs an entire lemonade through his nose. He's late to everything except the time he shows up five minutes early to a date because he's going to propose (on top of a Ferris wheel, no less). Bless his heart. Very different from the reckless, hyperactive speedsters who would succeed him, and the tension between his temperament and his powers is a fascinating contrast. The recent TV series was sleeping on some excellent material to work with.

I made a fan kid!
Tumblr media
So this is Takahiko, my Arukenimon/Mummymon fan kid at about 7 years old. He's pretty sulky and doesn't smile much with people he doesn't know. This boy is much happier reading in a quiet room than dealing with new people. He's not a bad kid though; if he cares about someone, like his parents, he gets pretty attached to the point that it can be considered by some to be clingy. If he befriends someone he will help them out any way he can. His emotional empathy is also surprisingly high, so if someone he cares about is sad he'll do his best to cheer them up in his own way. Plus he has an extremely warm smile that can be disarming to people that aren't familiar with him! (I purposely didn't draw it so his default personality with strangers comes through more. Maybe another time!)
Takahiko's a really musical boy. He plays the recorder really well and, if necessary, can use it to obtain some level of control over insect digimon like his mother. He also can make spirit needles, from the darker hair surprisingly, but since there aren't any more control spires he has no idea what they're for. He occasionally just makes them, looks at them a bit, then leaves them on the table and heads away. (Honestly though even if the control spires were still around; this kid would only use them to make a dog to play with.) He also has the entirely unique ability to communicate with the Oikawa butterflies to some extent, to the point that he's aware that they used to be a single man. He calls him the nice butterfly man. Other than music, he loves the stars since his dad loves horoscopes so much and spends time looking at constellations. He is absolutely terrified of bats though and vampires of any kind, even cartoon ones, leave him in floods of tears. This is probably a subconscious response to the trauma his parents experienced in a certain dream world that got imprinted on his dna somehow.
His darker patch of hair is where Mummymon's data is more prevalent. That area of his face, his right arm and left leg are a similar shade of grey. He also has only the one eye but, unlike Mummymon, the other eye is kinda there just permanently closed. This doesn't bother him though. He can see just fine and he thinks his grey patches and weird eye are really cool! Plus he's so well wrapped up clothing wise, that it isn't really apparent. He is ambidextrous and can summon a sickle, which is connected to his digimon form, but he usually isn't in a position to need one. Also he loves his purple scarf. Seriously, don't try and take it away from him.
Takahiko is unusual in that he picked out his own human name. He couldn't actually turn into a human until he was around 4. Until then his parents just called him by his digimon name(s)/pet names etc; but then one morning they get up and the kid is just standing there in human form asking Mummymon what's for breakfast. (Yes he was originally an egg, but it's more complicated than that and I won't get into it here.) Anyway, once he realises, he decides his human form needs a name too because all his evolutions have specific names. So he looks through his books and picks one he really likes, and is pretty determined to use it. Arukenimon takes a look and sees that it can be written with the kanji for 'resolute prince' and decides 'Yes, that's a suitable name for my son' so she agrees to it. Mummymon gets no say in the matter but is too proud to care.
I know there are other well established fan kids for the pair; but I'm so happy to finally have one of my own that I just had to talk about him at least once! Seriously, I have had no idea what their kid would look like for years, to the point that I was semi-convinced that a child was impossible for them and to have this cute little guy just come flying at me makes me so happy! I'll leave it at that because I could write a lot more about him. (This is a *severely* cut back version of the full bio I wrote for him.) I might put some more stuff in the tags though. If anyone is curious about him feel free to ask. I know a bizarre amount about this kid!

jen hey! tell me about the time you went on the radio to talk about asexuality!
So I would link you to it in this message except that I'm introduced as "Jen from place-near-me" and I like holding some anonimity online. Joys of having what was the MOST popular girls name for pretty much all of the 80s.
I am the Olivia of yesteryear.
And while it is a pretty big place and Jen is not exactly an unusual name, not sure I want to narrow down where I am in the UK. "Oop North" does me just fine.
ANYWAY
It was my lunch break and I turned on the radio and the presenter is talking about asexuality. And it literally makes me stop because no one talks about this. The presenter is explaining what it is, how under represented it is, and how there's a storm on Twitter (what else is new) about the Asexuality Day Of Awareness.
I'm calling before I realise it and I'm put on air and I talk about how this is so important because I didn't hear this growing up. We knew about gay and lesbian and bisexuality. We knew about trans people. But that was kinda it? And so not fitting in any of those made me feel like I was broken and wrong and different all through my teen years when my friends were exploring fun times with people they fancied.
And then, when I was approaching my 30s, the internet in a rare good moment told me that there is an A in the initialism and it stands for asexual and when I say it was a cloud parting, angels singing, beam of light moment I'm not kidding. And so I talked about finally finding something that worked for me and explained things and made me realise how I wasn't broken or wrong or weird.
We talked about what it's like being Ace in a world where Sex Sells! is the default (basically I like the aesthetic but sure isn't he cold without a shirt on?) and how people think this means we're lonely and will never have relationships (I have two good Ace friends: both married, one has a kid).
I said how important it was that the teens coming after me have what I didn't - something that helps them understand there is nothing wrong with them. And maybe it will mean I won't be so damn exhausted being someone's Google (I dont mind answering questions and I will talk about it but jfc you can do the basics yourself) and how more people knowing about it will help.
I explain a bit about the spectrum using the cake analogy: some Ace people won't have any cake at all. Some Ace people will share a cake with their loved one because it's a nice thing to do but they're not going to having it with anyone. I vaguely hinted at some Ace people who just make cake for themselves! But the idea is basically we're not going "I want cake!", we're on a spectrum of no cake (simplistically put as sex-repulsed) to "will have cake for the occasion" (sex indifferent, usually within a relationship).
I also think(?) I said that being Ace doesn't require a kind of "coming out" that other orientations/identities might need. Me being happily single and having no interest in sex doesn't mean anything or give you an any clues to my identity. And that's a good thing (because fuck this concept of having to know everyone's identity) but also a bad thing (because we also need visibility). I was not as eloquent as this because I was nervous and speaking on a national radio station on the most popular slot that they have. But I hope that came across.
Anyway, if any mutuals I have known for a while want to hear it I clipped up my part so you can listen. Drop me a message and I'll send over the link!

❝The Ferocious Monster From Another Dimension❞
❝In The Cosmos❞
Tumblr media
Lee(s): astronomer! witch! yangyang
Ler(s): tickle monster! Choi San
Small Synopsis: YangYang likes to have his head in the clouds... or... rather... the stars. It isn't until a friendly, perhaps too friendly, creature stumbles into his workplace that he's pulled back down to earth.
cw/ contains mafia themes since it's loosely linked with the previous episode.
By the way, I don't know anything about astronomy I'm just making up some magical shenanigans - don't take what this tickle fic says as fact dhxjjems
Tumblr media
Sometimes, when the day turns to night, you can see stars twinkling and glistening in the clear inky sky. These stars foretell your future, your destiny, they tell you what is to become of you in the end. Yet nobody gazes their eyes up long enough to see the truth, too blinded by the presence of the past or today. Only a few care to look up and become enraptured by the beauty and the disgrace of the future. YangYang was one of these people. A witch under the wing of a mafia. He didn't work in the main building like Lee Haechan or their leader: Lee Taeyong, nor did he work in the other location like his good friend Huang Renjun. He worked in a silent area, reading the stars for the future of their kinds. The future of the Supernatural Mafia. He was well aware that his job was one of the more important ones out of all of them, the fate of their organization practically rests on his shoulders.
Pretty easy, right?
Well tonight was different from most other nights. There was a chill about the air. Nothing scary, just unusual. He sits atop the flat roof of the small home he resides in nearer the suburbs of the city. His telescope is all set up and since it's a particularly cold night, he's wrapped up in a blanket overtop his linen pajamas. He nurses a mug of herbal tea in his hands to keep him awake and a small pile of spellbooks are nearby for just in case any creatures of the night attempt to sneak up on him. That would be less than ideal since his previous predictions suggested something was changing today.
He leans forward from his small den of pillows, that his Kun-gēge had insisted that he needed, so he could peer through the lens of the telescope. The stars were aligned tonight as they were on many other nights, a bit boringly to start with. He adjusts the knob on the side of the telescope to get a closer look at the configurations of constellations. He jolts at a swift and cheeky poke to his side. What was that? Was it Hendery again? He turns around to check but frowns. The little hatch that pulled down a ladder to get up to this portion of the roof was still shut, per his request. There was nobody up here beside him.
"Maybe it was just the wind..." he murmurs to himself as he shifts in his place, trying to get comfortable again so he can continue his work. The next strange occurrence he notices is that the blanket wrapped around him is pulled tight and flush against his body and his sides are squeezed through it. "Mnnhehhheeha! Hey, whatever you are,, stop it! I have charms!" he protests with a small huff. A light, airy voice giggles. "Stop it? But we're already having so much fun... aren't we, Yang?~" the voice teases him and he immediately tries to piece together who it was. Who does he know that would be teasing him at this hour? Not Haechan,, he doesn't sound like that. Not Renjun, he wouldn't be over at this time. "Oh, I wouldn't say we've met before.." the voice chirps.
So it's not anybody he knew... strange. Before he can do much in the way of defense, two feather-like sensations brush over his sensitive sides and he starts to giggle heartily. His upper torso was particularly sensitive, so these ghost sensations made him twitch and squirm a little. "St-Stohohohohop it..! Just show yourself already!" he whines, being a little childish because he was well aware that this wasn't anybody he knew at this point. Kun woukd scold him for it, but Kun wasn't awake right now. None of his coworkers were, as far as he knew.
The voice lets out a small string of soft laughter. "Alright, alright.." he sighs out almost like he had been defeated. Before him, appears a pink haired male with a long, exceptionally fluffy tail. "Oh... a tickle monster?" YangYang asks with a tilt of his head and San, the friendly new face, tilts his in the same direction - the new appearance of fluffy cat-like ears on his head tilting along with his hair. "Congratulations, Liu YangYang~ you are the first creature I've come across here who has correctly identified me!" San grins "How'd you know?" he asks. YangYang hums for a moment "One of my gēs... he studies creatures, you're not from around here, are you?" he queries, voice having shifted from annoyance to intrigue. San shakes his head, sitting down cross-legged across from YangYang. "Nope, I'm from another dimension... I came here in the hopes of growing more powerful.. and i came here," he gestures to the home they were sat atop of. "Because I tickled one of your coworkers, I've been looking for a witch!"
YangYang leans back slightly, eyes twinkling like the stars above them. "Ah, that's what you need... right," he mumbles. He can't say that he's particularly excited by the prospect that the other was obviously here with the intentions of tickling him. And very few things could stop such a creature when they were becoming more powerful. Thus, YangYang decides then and there that he'll give in to San's desire, considering he doesn't have much choice in the matter. "Alright, you can. But not for too long, please, I am working right now, after all,"
San looks surprised, but a deighted grin crosses over his features almost immediately. "Really? You're the first one to do that, you know," he says. "Do what?" the witch replies with a query. The tickle monster just huffs out a small laugh. No time to waste, YangYang said so himself. "Nothing, just lie on your back for me? Try to get comfortable," the creature guides and YangYang nods obediently; this would be over with quickly, he thought. He lays back against the blankets, his head against one of the multiple cushions he had up there. "Is this alright?" he shivers slightly, his linen pajamas were quite thin and it wasn't exactly warm this evening.
San merely nods, this was the first lee he didn't have to completely immobilize. Slightly strange and new, but he wasn't all that bothered. "Are you gonna.... tell me where you're ticklish?~" it's a tease, but it's worded very lightly. YangYang shakes his head, he's embarrassed enough to be on his back accepting tickles of all things. Who knows, maybe it will resemble the same joy he got when he was tickled as a child by family.
He feels it nearly immediately, San wasn't playing around - apparently. It's a light, fluffy sensation that worms its way up his stomach. "Pfft- nyahahahahaa!" YangYang emits a surprised peel of giggles, what did San have that was fluffy?! Oh... That dreaded tail. "Whahahahahaat thehehe heheheheck?!" the witch snorts. "Ah~ had a hunch you were feather ticklish.. how's it feel?~ like a thooousand feathers brushing all over that poor tummy?~" San coos, grinning more so in an evil manner. The tip of his tail gently pokes at YangYang's belly button and the witch finds himself in a small amount of hysterics already. "Wahahahahahhehee! Ohohohoho my gohohosh!!"
"Hey.. Yang-di,, whatever you're doing could you keep it do- oh," the hatch to the roof finds itself open and a very smug Ten has popped out much like a cat might. "I see you're... busy..." he chuckles. San's attention turns to Ten immediately and he smirks. "Oh, new friend! Wanna join?~" the tickle monster asks. "Dohohohohon't dohohoho ihit!! Ihihit's a trap!" the younger witch below the tickle monster squeaks out. Ten, not as naive as either of the other two were making him out to be, shakes his head and hums. "I'm alright, thanks. He's all yours! Although.."
The youngest witch's head falls back, a giggly gasp leaving his lips as he realizes Ten was about to out him. "The underarms are a bad spot, that'll knock him out quick... I'll come collect him when you're finished," and nearly as quick as he came, Ten vanishes back into the house. YangYang's eyes widen slightly, the way San looks down at him is a sight that makes him squirm. The creature coos "Excited?" he asks as he finds himself slipping his hands beneath the witch's underarms. "N-No I'm no- noooOHOhOhohot!! Ahahahahahaha! Fuhuhuhuck!" the witch curses and San gasps. "Oh, no!! We can't have you saying bad words..." the pink haired male grins mischievously, tail wrapping around YangYang's torso to furiously feather him all over. "N-NoHOHOohO OHOHohoh my gohohohod!"
San smiles, it's almost a smile too sweet for such a creature. It unnerves the lee a little, he's already in hysterics and he's sure he can barely take anymore of this. It hasn't even been that long but San's tickling was intense, far more intense than those times his gēges would tickle him. The feathering of his torso and the fingers wiggling under his arms were enough to drive him positvely mad. "Wahahahhahahahahahh!! Plehehehehehheease!! P-Plehehehease hahahave mehercy!" YangYang pleads. Despite him wanting it in the first place, San laughs at how quickly his tune has changed. How sweet, the monster thought, so easily driven into hysterics.
The sensation is sudden to stop, and YangYang finally catches his breath more or less. He still feels the soft sensations all over his upper body, making him quietly giggly. "Eehehehe.. ahaha thahat was bahad.." he gasps for air. San titters "Oh, silly little witch," he muses, confusing the younger male quite a bit. What on earth was that supposed to mean? "I'm not done with you yet! If i recall, I was given permission to tickle you until you pass out!" he sings, looking all too pleased. "Oh, no! I don't think that's what Ten-gē meant!"
"Oho, are you sure?~ prepare yourself, little witch, I see a tickling of a lifetime for you in the cosmos,"

My conspiracy theory--a conspiracy theory that I'll never be able to prove--is that corporate advertising firms probably are way more active on Tumblr than most people would like to believe. Like yeah sure, maybe not every single movie is getting its own ad on the sidebar or anything, but I'd be shocked if there aren't people being paid to spread memes of whatever new movie is coming out or whatever.
It's not like this would be a particularly unusual thing to happen. On Reddit--don't hate me; I migrated here before it was cool--it isn't so unusual for companies to try and do marketing disguised as regular comments. It's common enough that r/hailcorporate was once dedicated to posts that looked like they could have been made by a company's PR department. (It's since been watered down to just being posts that mention a brand on the site, though a lot of them could still be attempts at soft advertising.)
The other thing that happens on Reddit is that people will occasionally sell their accounts. How much they'll get varies, but for a year-old account with average karma, they might get between $5 and $50 for it. Sometimes people will just buy an account because they don't want to fuck around for a few weeks trying to get enough karma on their accounts to post on the subreddits they're actually interested in, but a lot of the time it's probably also just so they can go straight to marketing mode.
Plus, y'know, it's been a bit of a meme for a while that half the people on subs like r/selfie are people who are trying to advertise their OnlyFans content. (No shame if that's a thing for you, by the way; but this is a real thing a lot of people on Reddit actively try to do.) Basically, the entire site is filled with soft advertisements that are trying to pretend to not be that.
My other piece of evidence stems from something that came up in a Swell Entertainment video a couple of years ago. I don't have an exact time stamp for this because, like any good conspiracy theorist and true to my brand overall, I haven't proofread this post at all before I posted it. Anyway, at one point in that linked video, she shows a screenshot of a sponsorship deal that basically amounted to the company asking that she have a poster in the background for a certain number of videos and not mention that it's meant as an advert. Basically, just sell it off as a background decoration she was trying out for a bit.
I wouldn't be too surprised if this kind of thing also happens on Tumblr. The major companies are clearly of the opinion that user-generated content can work as an advertisement. I think it'd also be a lot easier on Tumblr in some ways because people are kinda used to Tumblr being the fandom website, so seeing posts for an upcoming movie or show isn't going to trip any alarms the same way they might on some other website.
I think also, on Reddit people were generally much more aware of this being a thing, so they were a bit more vigilant for it. There were definitely a couple of times when I got a reply to one of my comments where I wondered if it wasn't a celebrity's PR team trying to counteract negative opinions, for example.
There's definitely a few things that have come out somewhat recently that have made me wonder if there hasn't been an active effort to do some grassroots-style advertising for the movie on Tumblr. (Yes, I'm thinking of Barbie specifically.) Sure, it's not unusual for a big budget movie to get a lot of hype, especially if it's part of an ongoing franchise, but usually that level of hype doesn't start until the movie's already out.
I feel like the hard part of this style of advertising on Tumblr is that this site isn't really as easily monetised as some other social media sites. Some of this is because Tumblr has traditionally been pretty resistant to any kind of social media-fication of the site in general, so there isn't really an algorithm that can be gamed the same way you can game the algorithm on Reddit, YouTube, or Instagram.
Because of that, a lot of the ways you'd advertise on Tumblr are very dependent on you being able to "breach containment". Maybe you'd have to buy an account with x number of followers to get the chance of a certain gifset reaching a larger audience, or find a way of convincing some larger accounts to follow you.
This is really the area where I feel like I'm not ever going to be able to prove it definitively. On other sites, especially ones with a fairly well developed influencer culture, you'd just have to pay off a few people to start the trend. Even on Reddit, where there isn't really an influencer culture the same way there is on Instagram or YouTube, you just have to know how to work the site's algorithms a little bit.
I don't really know what the beginning stages of doing that kind of soft advertising on Tumblr would look like. At least in my corner of the site, there's an active rejection of that kind of culture, so someone who'd try that would probably get rightfully shunned. Maybe a newer account could follow however many other people who are posting about a certain thing, show off some gifsets based on a trailer, and that'd be the starting point, but it'd be a slow start; not the kind of thing you'd necessarily want for an advertisement where you want as many eyeballs as possible.
Still, in some ways, that might actually make it work even better. Because it's coming from some nobody from a very specific corner of the site, nobody would be expecting it to be a corporate account.

Oh my god! I know he was the traitor! I felt smart now. For now I call CC Robin because of his deceit and ways of preventing the hurt reminded me Robin Hood. So hello there, Robin. I felt always suspicious about you.
Oh my god.. Mika and Valerie's relationship is way more tragic than Ishimondo in a way.. Do they have feelings for eachother or just Mika have one sided crush on her? Because I think Mika seems bit.. lovesick.
And fuck I didnt expect her to be culprit in chapter 3 but chapter 3 is always the key part of the story to resolve other secrets, isnt it?
Bob killing Aiden made me ship them. I'm a mess for killer x victim ships!
And oh my fucking god? Mika's life was horrible and only thing who makes her sane taken away from her like that? This is.. cruel!
I adore it!
What happened to the amnesiac boy?
Honestly, thats up for debate since Val was all "I've never thought about romance before due to only living for my SHSL, but now that I've gonna die maybe I should kiss someone". I don't think she was interested in Tom much as a person, but that could change.
As for Mika, I don't think she's self aware enough to understand if she's feeling romantic feelings or platonic feelings or familial feelings. She just feels something positive, and goes "hmm. thats unusual." Her parents told her that Val would start looking down on her if she told the truth, while Val was insecure when she measured herself up against the "nothing bothers me and I do not fail" image Mika presents. Val asked Mika to be more open about his plans, but when Mika did that in Ch2 she was shocked and thought him heartless for having a hand in the death of his own dad.
I don't think he's a good character morally, but he turned out a lot better than his parents, and some of his "wtf" behavior makes slightly more sense. He doesn't get why they're complaining, since for him this is just a Tuesday. His mom treats human life like a puzzle, so he tries to too, but gets mad upset when its a person she knows. And, of course, she was never really in it for herself.
As for Bob x Aiden, Aiden totally told Mika to lay off Bob a couple of times, for shipping crumbs. And Aiden is the sort thats nice to everyone, (he wants to make friends) while Bob was a semi-harmless Cukolander until he snapped.
As for Mika, in Ch4 she does a Reverse Taka and puts on a pretty impressive mask of sanity and "nothing bothers me", as she does. This causes more people to target her (as is her plan >:)) Val told her to save everyone (well, she said to try to save everyone, but same thing) so she will.
The amnesiac is still quite attached to Celene, and trying to figure out what kind of life he lives. He hit it off with the male figure skater, due to them having similar personalities, and plan to learn skating when they escape. (the skaters are a mirror to Val and Mika, if they had slightly better communication. They learn to be less codependent, while Val and Mika just imploded, almost taking everyone down with them.) He had one of the lower murder idea counts in Ch3, which he shrugs off as not being affected by the motive. To an extent, he's a somewhat neutral party.
He becomes highly relevant in Ch4, actually! Alas, he dies.

ah... my old dragon quest 8 guide got destroyed due to floodwater, but i'm having a really great time looking through its old stuff. maybe it's time to play again! i feel a lot better about jessica nowadays (like if you heard about the complaining that she dresses too slutty i mean unfeministly). for me post-transition and being okay with my flat chest now, and knowing what chests can look like what you want them to helped stall that oh no panic urge when thinking about chests, which lol thanks anxiety related mental illnesses for giving me that. my experience is probably unique, though - trans people are rare, and most of the people that are policing bodies and fashion don't have the self-awareness of your gender that comes in when you're trans. (if you hate certain clothes, don't wear them! you never have to wear things you don't like! this should be true for children too but it's definitely true when you are considered a full person.)
i think i want to do a kink themed run with whips and fisticuffs and maybe charisma or magic. everyone dresses to look nice instead of stats lol. the game itself, i don't remember being too hard, so there's plenty of space for 'creative' runs.
also i just love how the characters have their possible growth paths without being EVERYTHING POSSIBLE like fe3h. (fe3h's gender re-locking of paths frustates me so much. part of the 'progressivism is lame' brigade, let's do religious royalty angst all over again. yuck. i guess it was a mistake to think it was time related and not cool like how fire emblem fates was amazing, and got fucked over with its release.) why does jessica prefer magic, whips, daggers, and seduction? perhaps it is unusual that she has so many talents in different things, or is it that those things a common path in the world?
yes there is royalty in this game but... it doesn't have to end that way, in my reality!
i'll have to see what i can do tomorrow.
i'm feeling pretty good about all of this.

eugh and I am STILL struggling with what to do with fandoms on this tumblr
I know that everyone reblogs that post about how if your moot changes fandoms that's a-okay and you'll either accept or block this new spamming of some random character you've never heard of before. But I can't help feeling a bit bad about it.
TBH secretly, and I feel rly bad about it, but... I actually don't like it when people spam stuff I don't know anything about on tumblr. (Or reblogging the same post 5 times. Sorry.) It's just... empty clutter on my dash, which I too often use as a sorta dopamine IV for if I'm in desperate need of brain stimulation. (Not as much as I used to but still.)
But maybe that's just because I'm too hesitant to block tags. I'm finally starting to block fandom tags now and like at first I felt really bad like 'of all the fandoms you chose to block, that one?!' but now that I've done a few it's easier. It's not that I hate to see it it's just it interrupts my dashboard's flow.
But also just. I really do think that compared to most people the fandoms I go between tend to vary REALLY widely. Most people will go from e.g. fantasy video game fandom 1 to fantasy video game fandom 2 or whatever and there's a good chance fans of one will like the latter. And I know this sounds very 'I'm so quirky lolz' but just. objectively. I am pretty sure that Star Trek TOS -> Homestuck -> Little Busters! -> Supernatural -> American Revolution RPF -> Ensemble Stars! -> Fire Emblem (especially Genealogy of the Holy War) is. an unusual list of Main Fandoms.
And partly that is my brain's inherent craving for novelty. I *need* a certain level of Different Things, vaguely defined. Which explains why I tend to gravitate towards fandoms with a lot of different quirky characters (like Homestuck, Ensemble Stars! etc.) or Visual Novels, where each route registers as a Different Story in my brain so it's like I get five Different Things for one.
So I'll have, like. ONE fantasy game I play. But then I need to mix it up with other really different things. So I can get a multitude of vibes. Same thing with my fanfic: I'm constantly trying new things, and can't really get motivated to write something unless I feel like I couldn't easily read it somewhere (thus my total lack of creative motivation while I was into Supernatural).
Anyway the point of it is. I'm just too aware that my followers are real people, who presumably followed me for something they enjoy seeing on their dash. Probably just agreeing with my opinions in general. And in general I like to reblog things that I think people will. Like. Not in a 'This'll Do Numbers' way but in a 'I like contributing positively to a community' sort of way I guess.
But it's also a matter of post type. I mind much less when people write heaps of text posts or whatever about their stuff; sometimes it's fun to see analyses even of things I know nothing about, and I can feel their passion shining through. It's much more cluttery when people do heaps of e.g. fanart reblogs without commentary.
But then that's what sends me into stasis whenever I see a post I like and want to reblog but I feel like I have to Write Something Good Enough in the tags. Which is an inherently very very silly idea I know lmao. But it was honestly a bit freeing several months (years????? timye.) ago when I allowed myself to just hit reblog with no tags at all.
IDK like look I want to just be free and make my blog filled with nice things that I like but just like with masking I can't divorce myself from the context that these are things I'm sharing with real people. And maybe it's just a loneliness in me that because my tastes are so absurdly specific and radically Different it's hard to find other people who'll really relate to more than one or two of them.
Anyway thanks for coming to my TED Talk, this one's called 'thoughts about this blog I've had variously for the last five years or so which is funny because at some point that'll be more than half the life of my presence on tumblr lmao'
