as a chinese person myself, something about the way sabine is portrayed kinda icks me abit. it’s all little little details so like, i’m just complaining my ass off

sabine’s cheongsam is right over left, which is not, it’s not accurate at all. it’s traditionally “右衽” (youren, left over right method), because “生右死左”, right represents life, while left represents death (related to how 阴yin阳yang is left and right). its a bit confusing, but basically sabine is dressing like how a corpse would.

okay sure, you could argue that it’s not a hanfu, and that “the traditional way doesn’t apply anymore”, but the concept still applies. to cheongsams. and isn’t sabine said to be very well connected to her chinese roots? like she should know this.

plus i could go into how ugly the cheongsam is and how it looks like cloth cut from an abstract art museum poster which is low key insulting to the embroidery art of chinese traditional outfits but 🤷‍♂️

okay then her as qilin. i don’t really know if it was intentional or if they just randomly pulled a chinese mythical creature that sounded cool, but they really butchered the representation of it nonetheless.

麒麟 qilin symbolises fortune and prosperity, and is super prominent in feng shui, so the choice of her villain design being the qilin makes little sense. what would make sense for her to be, is the 獬豸xiezhi, a goat looking creature which is a symbol of justice, known for piercing corrupt officials with its horn. this fits into the context of the episode, right? with the two mfs abusing their power and all.

in the wiki, it’s said that the outfit is of chinese armour. but how? what? this is what chinese armour looks like. i see some attempt? i guess? but this is not really important.

what’s more important is that why is her power wind????? when the qilin is commonly depicted with their bodies on fire with fire breathing abilities??? huh????? did astruc and the writers even did research into the designs?

ik the qilin is more popular but one google search would lead you to discover more chinese mythical creatures that fit her villain motive better. and the qilin is not one of them.

lastly, i feel like sabine’s entire character just screams: “hey look i’m chinese, being chinese is my only trait other than being the world’s most un-asian mom ever.”

there’s more to chinese culture than the obsession with feng shui, wearing cheongsams every day, eating dim sums, doing tai chi and other shit. and i agree that these are pretty prominent but… the way it’s portrayed makes it too clear that her actions are not written by a chinese person.

and her name. ik i’m whiny as hell but i don’t think any chinese person would give their child such a (lame) name. usually chinese people take much pride in their names, which are mostly related to values and traits. for example my own name is 懿捷, which means excellency and triumph. sabine’s name is 夏冰, meaning summer and ice. huh? if you’re a westerner and gave yourself this name, fine , it’s cool. but you’re telling me a china chinese person gave their child such a name? bullshit.

preface: i already have a very bad impression of tristamp. i literally have been into trigun for maybe a week now and i have seen most of 1998, but im trying to go into tristamp with a clear head and view it objectively, but i genuinely looked at the character designs and legatos redesign made me resent it immediately tbh...

Ik that sounds dramatic but it's how I feel :/ but also I'm super socially awkward &

You are definitely not weird, and this is far from parasocial! (trust me, I know parasocial-). I personally find your ask awesome and endearing. I see a lot of myself in this, and I’m warmed that you felt comfortable to share this with me! ❤️

I feel the biggest appeal of the Tumblr tickle community is that it is home to regular, day-to-day people, like you and me, that all share this one interest and are just looking for connection. It’s not play-focused, or sex-focused, or porn-focused. It’s about community, and sharing our love of tickling with one another!

This is not whiny, silly, or over dramatic- you’re allowed to feel this way, and it’s good to vent! I absolutely have felt similar, and still do spiral and feel that way some days! It is a defeating thought feeling like you won’t fit in or make the connections you desire. That is a very common feeling, I’m sure a lot of people in this community will relate to this in some way. Humans are social and connecting creatures; we thrive with love and company!

I don’t just want to say there’s hope for you, you already are worthy, deserving, and capable just by being you! And you have opportunities for getting involved and making connections! The first step is always the hardest, though stepping out of our comfort zone and putting in a little effort can go a long way! And branch into new opportunities! We don’t know the outcome until we try!

I 100% relate to being socially awkward and not easily connecting with people. And there’s nothing wrong with needing extra time or needing certain needs met to make connections. It can feel lonely and like something is wrong with you when your friends, even your own romantic partner, have play partners and/or are capable of pick up play. Though I’ve learned that it is best to continue connecting with the community and putting yourself out there. People meant for you will gravitate towards you and respect your needs. Those who aren’t meant for you will show pretty early why they aren’t. I’ve been struggling to find local play partners in Ontario, everyone I’ve connected with in a play partner way I’ve had a falling out with. Clay’s been the only local person I’ve played with. Though I recently had a dress-up scene with a local friend at a party they hosted! That gave me some hope! :)

What’s helped me make friends is recognizing what I need, what I don’t need, and my boundaries. For example, I love in-person group hang outs to make connections. One-on-one is for when a mutual connection is made. I enjoy people my age or older, patient, experienced with play, and have other relationships. The pandemic did not help anyone with peopling- it’s not just you and me! When you attend a munch or a play party, you’re going to meet awkward people and may have awkward conversations! My local friends are awkward and silly, and that’s what makes them fun and charming! Also I think anyone would much better prefer to have an awkward moment than to have an uncomfortable conversation with someone who doesn’t understand boundaries or kink.. I’ve unfortunately had plenty of those, online and in-person.

Sometimes I listen to Dan Savage’s Savage Lovecast, a kink and sex podcast. He had some advice about keeping your dating profile instead of deleting it when it doesn’t go your way, because people are constantly going to sign up for that app. And you may just make a connection with that new arrival! How I made connections and friends was that I stayed active online and in-person, by keeping my kink profiles, and attending munches and play parties. Presence attracts people, putting myself out there attracted people, especially in kink communities where safety is #1; people are looking for consistency and presence. And then naturally you start to interact with people. Overtime you build rapport and connections.

I hope you find something in my answer reassuring! You are definitely capable of making the connections you want and finding your place in the community! You just need to put in some effort, have some patience, and be true to you, that’s something I’m just learning too! :)

Sea, why do you think Harry/zayn/Niall fans say Louis can’t sing? I’ve recently decided to watch some clips of him singing (from recent shows) and I will admit I don’t actually know much about vocals but I’ve always been very like - picky w live vocals? I grew up listening to Michael Jackson and Celine dion who have great voices so it’s kinda hard for me to appreciate ppl who don’t have insane vocals.

But like when I listen to Louis, sometimes I don’t like his voice on the first listen. Like I’ll need to listen once to a vid of him singing and on the second time I think it’s beautiful and almost like - mesmerizing. Sometimes it sounds very like- pitchy and whiney to me. One music producer + vocalist I adore said he thinks that adds to a song though bc it makes it more emotional. And I kinda think that’s a strong point in louis’ voice- you feel that shit in your loins. But personally, for me, the whiney male voice has never been my absolute favorite.

But I do think his tone is v unique which means not everyone is gonna like it - yk? Idk if he does the whiney voice on purpose but I do think it sounds a lot more ?controlled? Than it did in 1d. Which I think is good bc I’m all about singers working on themselves instead of giving up like Selena Gomez has. I’m a solo zayn Stan who kinda has a soft spot for Louis so obviously I know he’ll never be on zayns level vocally(I mean not before years of practice and even then- who’s gonna outsing zayn? No one) but I still kinda like him. I just have mixed opinions on his voice w what I mentioned that I think it takes some getting used to. But I defo don’t think he’s bad. I think “can’t sing” is a stretch and if we’re being honest he’s stronger than like 80% of the industry. I kinda just wish he just did more w his voice but ig he’s just not there yet bc that takes time to develop from what ik

A few reasons.

Louis doesn’t have a traditionally masculine rock voice. His register is higher than usual, and is the highest in 1D (except for the falsettos that Zayn and Liam can do). A pure tenor masculine voice is not everyone’s taste— we are used to lower rock voices.

Louis also has had notable problems with pitch, mostly because of insecurity and nerves. Ironically, he had a lot better pitch control when he was younger. In 1D, Louis got to a point of worrying about every solo he had to sing, so that by WWA tour his solos either came out flat (too low in pitch) or poorly supported— thin and whiny. This was noticeable during the first live solo performances too. Through interval training and exercises in breath control, Louis has improved pitch control tremendously.

Louis is also singing in a more Britpop/ punk way, with his mouth close to the mic (sometimes on top of the mic), producing a nasally and closed sound. It’s not my favorite, to be honest, but Louis makes it work. Not everyone can sing like this and get away with it. In opera and Broadway, singers will use the resonance in their mouths and throats a lot more, to open up the sound.

Now if you listen to Louis at his highest range of his head voice, where he’s belting out the high notes, there’s a ease of delivery from a relaxed, full abdominal support that sounds like a soft boom. It’s not forced or strained, and his laryngeal muscles (vocal cords and strap muscles that control vocal tension) are relaxed, vibrating in a controlled, supple way. He doesn’t use much vibrato, so he has to hit the pitch right on. This is the kind of virtuoso belting that Louis is known for, because his voice is so pure in the higher registers.

The voice used to be purer. It sounds raspier and rougher now because of smoking and alcohol (which might help with a rockier sound). Still, if we compare Louis to some of the other high tenors in the business, we can hear strain in their live performances compared to Louis’ lives, which are powerful, controlled and supple.

You’re right. Louis’ voice has a unique timbre that not everyone likes. It’s a personal stamp that is hard to imitate. His voice can be a little grating and whiny, especially in speech, but in singing, it’s a captivating blend of pure tenor and raspy baritone that’s unique and magnetic. And the voice breaks in strategic places in the lyrics capture the emotions with such brilliant delicacy.

Brittany Pierce, Shelby Corcoran and Sebastian Smythe because there's literally nothing I find significantly redeemable about any of them, like other characters get on my tits but there's still some enjoyable aspects to them, but for these? I got nothing.

Santana in season 6 because what a fucking downgrade, her career storyline is down the toilet and her friendships are all thrown away just reduce her entire personality to br*ttany, even if I actually liked brittany/brittana that would still be a dog shit storyline, but I don't so it's worse than it already is.

my gal Rachel Berry, she's an interesting character and I find her actions so over the top that they swing around from annoying to ridiculous and entertaining

Nah but jokes aside, Jayce originally was inspired by both OG deku and Sally Face. He had blue hair and pale skin that made him look half dead.

I really wanted him to look like Sal Fisher, but blue hair wasn't doin too hot with his design. I didn't want him to be blond because i felt as if I was being lazy and giving up. But it turned out I really liked it! I wanted him to have a little spice/accent to him so there went his purple streak!

Tbh I have little to no creativity for male fashion, so I just slapped on what I wear when I'm masc.

I just made him look like a loser junkie. Muahhahaha

I actually considered purple eyes bc I have a weird love for characters with them, but it in the end it would fight for attention with the streak and necklace.

His fav color actually isn't purple despite it being the color that grabs your attention to his design at first! It's Rory's lol. Not a huge spoiler, but it's smth that connects them 🤧 Gosh do I love their secret lore that hasn't been revealed yet...

And don't ask me abt freckles. I forgot. All ik is that they are so satisfying to draw and that he is hella insecure abt it.

Rory came out bc I had an OC sugar rush and boy am i glad he is here 😭 Jayce's lore would be 10x more boring without him.

I wanted Rory to be an bad boy emo little whiny bitch, but ugh, it totally just didn't click out. The hair was a issue within itself, the jacket wasn't very special, his tight v-neck shirt felt forced, his accs were troubling, but his little officer hat was very loved. ^^

He is Valentine inspired now! (Monster high) ain't that funny? Since Rory's route does revolve around Valentines day lol

Elliot came after Rory's sketch. I was gonna scrap it and do this mafia guy i had drawn in 8th grade, but it just felt lazy and not him yk? I was in my Tokyo Revengers Bonten arc phase with that mafia guy... 😰 what an interesting hyperfixation heheha...

HM THATS A GOOD QUESTION...... i think day 21 [alt: soft pyjamas] is the answer to all questions of this nature though, it is a fic i have been trying to write for years but never had the right characters for it, but now i do!!!

maybe my day 12 [stress-induced illness / psychogenic fever] because manfred and franziska literally interact like twice in canon so every time i get to write them i just start running circles around my word doc like an excited dog

day 5 ['great, now i have your germs all over me'] easily because phoenix is canonically a plague rat and one time him and franziska did a whole investigation while he was not even close to being on the mend. i was just like oh i am going to make them SO irritating.

day 7 [a cry for attention] because it stumped me for SO long, i didnt know what to do because none of my muses are particularly whiny/attention-seeking, but then i figured out a way to flip the prompt on its head and was SO satisfied with it and it's one of my favourite fills to this day.

god i love them all so much. i think probably my day 10 ['blow your nose!'] tho because i like giving powerful women emphatic headcolds. it's kind of the reason i was put on earth i think.

tell me about some of your favorite individual scenes?

basically any time maya and franziska are doing their cute couple banter. they just work together so well, i love when they start going.

there's a scene in one fill where franziska stays home sick and gumshoe kicks down her door and tries to arrest maya cause he doesn't know theyre dating and thinks maya has her hostage

licherally ANYTHING with manfred makes me clutch at my heart and keel over but there's a scene where he carries franziska back to her room that i'm never gonna stop thinking about

in my day 4 fill miles brings teenage franziska cola to help her nausea and then in my day 18 fill franziska does the same to him (cola & pretzel sticks r like the german equivalent of saltines and 7 up. zwieback? even better)

at one point franziska says the words "they put their whole pussy in this ice cream"

which day(s) are you most looking forward to reading other peoples fics for?

if someone looked after me in any capacity i would black out from love. i have been shown basically no overt care of that manner in my life, if someone expressed even the slightest modicum of worry over my wellbeing i would start ugly crying like that one franziska sprite at the end of JFA. thats exactly the face i would make. i would eagerly live out all these prompts in real if there was even a 5% chance someone would express interest in looking after me or worrying about me in any capacity.

16 of my 30 fills are about franziska being cared for. that is not coincidental.
