"Shit," you glanced at your watch before looking up and down the long hallway. You’d gotten turned around, still finding the campus confusing, despite the fact that it wasn’t huge. And now you were going to be late for class…again. You hiked your backpack higher onto your shoulder, letting out a long sigh, “damn it.”

“Heya,” from around the corner popped a tall, lithe figure that caused you to gasp in surprise. His smile turned sheepish as he awkwardly scratched the back of his neck. You’d seen him around before, in the two weeks you’d been at Hawkins, but hadn’t yet spoken to him. You were pretty sure his name was Eddie, “didn’t mean to scare you but I heard you…well, cursing to yourself and couldn’t help but wonder if you needed some help.”

“Y-yeah,” you admitted with a small huff, a flush already warming up your face, but you were unsure if that was due to your embarrassment or nerves, “I got turned around again and can’t find Mr. Morris’ classroom for calculus.”

“Calculus,” a little smirk tugged up the corner of his movie as you bit the inside of your cheek to keep from making more of a fool out of yourself, “smart girl. I can show you where the room is, if you’d like. But you’re going to be a little late.”

“Can’t really make much more of a fool out of myself than I already have,” you shrugged lightly, desperately trying to play off his little term of endearment, “wait - shouldn’t you be in class?”

“Study hall,” he murmured, although there was much less studying that happened than anything else. He’d been using the time recently to work on a new dnd campaign, “I guess that leaves you with two options: I can show you to the classroom, or you can rebel and come hang out with me.”

“That’s a bold assumption that I would even want to hang out with you,” there was a teasing lilt to voice that caused him to laugh lightly. You held out your hand and told him your name, “but either way it’s nice to meet you. It’s hard to meet new friends, especially when you’re fresh here as a senior.”

“Eddie,” aha, you had been correct after all, “and trust me - it’s hard to make friends with people, even if you’ve been here your whole life.”

“Fantastic,” your sarcasm caused both of you to laugh. You liked him, you quickly decided; he looked the complete opposite of you and yet you found it incredibly easy to talk to him. What was that old saying? Opposites attract or something like that.

“So, whaddya say?” he rocked back and forth on heels, as if it really was a question on what you wanted to do, “class? Or hanging out with your new friend Eddie?”

“New friend, huh?” you asked and he nodded eagerly, “alright then. What have you got in mind to pass the time?”

“Whatcha reading?” Eddie sat down across from you, a big, dopey smile on his face as you beamed at him. You could feel a few people turn to watch the two of you, but paid it no mind. You were well aware of the fact that the two of you presented a very clashing picture; you were soft and delicate while he was rough and hardened. But if you anyone gave him more than a five second chance, they would realize just how wonderful of a person he truly was.

“Nothing,” you snapped the book shut without even marking your page and tossed it face down on the bench next to you. He rested his elbow on the table and put his hand in his hand as he watched you with curiosity, “what’s up, Eddie?”

“Nothing,” he repeated as you nodded, “didn’t look like nothing, sweetheart. You looked pretty invested.”

“Nope,” you insisted, but he was already sneaking his arm under the table and snatched up the well worn paperback. You barely protested, instead trying to gauge his reaction. When you noticed that his face lit up, you visibly relaxed, “The Gunslinger? How very…unexpected.”

“I…” you worried your bottom lip as he tapped his fingers over the cover, “it’s a good series. I really like Stephen King.”

He leaned in and crooked his finger towards you. You couldn’t help the bit of nervous laughter that bubbled up, “you, sweetheart, are a nerd. A grade A, certified nerd. Who would have thought?”

“I am not!” you were giggling now and couldn’t help but gently put your hand on his cheek, leaning in further, “I am not a nerd, Eddie Munson.”

“You are,” he insisted with a cheeky laugh, “there’s nothing to be ashamed of. Nerds are the best, and sometimes they’re pretty cute. You don’t have to hide who you are. Not with me.”

“Fine,” you gave in and sat back down, missing the feeling of his soft skin under your hand. You were pretty sure that you were the one he was calling cute, but weren’t even going to delve into right now. Your mind was going haywire enough, “I am a nerd. What’s even more so, I’m probably a dork too.”

“Even better,” his smile was so easy and infectious, “I have an important question for you. Well, two really, but one is dependent on the other.”

“Go on…”

“Have you heard of Dungeons and Dragons?”

“Yes,” you answered without hesitation and he perked up immediately, “I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume you play.”

“I don’t just play,” he playfully scoffed before leaning in to whisper in your ear, “I’m the DM.”

“Consider me impressed,” you grinned, “now what’s the second question?”

“Want to come hang out with me…and my friends?”

“Yeah,” he handed your book back over, which you quickly slipped into your backpack, “I’d like that a lot.”

“Once you join, you can never leave,” he teased, “you’ll be tarnished forever - last opportunity to back out.”

“Not a chance, Munson,” you almost jumped as you followed, passing for a moment to press a kiss to cheek, which caused an immediate flush of pink to color his cheeks, “I think it’s you that’s stuck with me.”

“Eddie!” you’d knocked on his door and waited for a response, but nothing came. After a few minutes you grabbed the spare key from the spot where it was hidden and let yourself into his trailer. It was quiet, almost too quiet, and you knew he was home. A bit of worry prickled up and you wondered if something had happened in the time Wayne had left for the day and your arrival, “Eds?”

Nothing looked out of the place so you slowly walked back to his bedroom, softly knocking on the partially open door. When a heavy yawn met your years, you finally relaxed, “come in.”

“Hi,” you grinned when you stepped in and saw that he was still bundled in his blanket. He gave you a small smile as you went and sat on the edge of the bed, “look at you, sleepyhead. It’s almost noon.”

“Shit,” he groaned. You’d had plans to leave early for breakfast before going out to the lake, “I’m sorry, sweetheart. I-I wasn’t feeling too good last night and I thought I could sleep it off.”

You shook your head both in amusement and admonishment at him before reaching over and gently touching his face. He sounded a little raspy, and cheeks and forehead were warm, “you don’t have to apologize for getting sick, silly. I’m pretty sure you have a cold - how does your body feel?”

“Tired,” he admitted, “achy.”

“Well then,” your touch was gentle as you brushed a few roguish curls of his face, “breakfast and the lake will always be there another day. But today, you’re going to let me take care of you.”

“No,” he protested weakly; while he didn’t want you to potentially catch whatever he had, he also would give almost anything to spend time with you. The two of you had grown closer than he’d ever thought over the last couple of months. You still managed to make his heart skip a few beats whenever he saw you - what he didn’t know was that he did the same to you, “you’ll get it too.”

“If I’m going to get whatever you have, it’s already too late for that,” you insisted, “we spend all of our time together. And on top of that, I know you won’t take proper care of yourself, Eddie Munson. So you’re going to let me take care of you instead. Don’t even try and argue.”

“I like it when a woman takes charge,” his grin was cheeky, but he quickly came down with a small coughing spell which just caused you to give him that look.

“I’m going to get you some tea and make breakfast,” you stood up before he could say anything else, “you need to keep hydrated and eat something. After that you’re taking a hot shower and getting some clean clothes on. Yes?”

“Yeah,” his stomach flipped as he noticed the soft expression on your face, “you don’t have to do this, ya know.”

“I want to, Eddie,” you promised; he couldn’t remember the last time someone had given him this much attention and…love. You held his gaze for a moment, feeling like he could see straight through you. When you couldn’t take it any longer, you cleared your throat and looked away, “I’ll be back in a few.”

“Thanks, babe.”

Thanks babe. Those two simple words were ping-ponging around your head the entire time you shuffled around the small kitchen, throwing together some food for breakfast. Thanks babe. He had to know the effect that had over you - the effect he had over you. Maybe you were that obvious in your affections too, and just hadn’t realized it. But…no. You were friends - good friends - that was all.

By the time you had a cup of tea ready for him, topped off with a bit of honey, you walked back to his room and found him back asleep. You couldn’t help your smile as you set the steaming mug on his bedside table. His blanket had fallen down, exposed his naked torso and it became a herculean task not to stare. You allowed yourself a quick peek before tucking him in and smoothing his hair back. You definitely should not have been having these thoughts about your friend while he was there sick and sleeping.

You’d let him sleep for a little while, bringing him breakfast when he was awake. You were perched on the other side of the bed, making sure he had everything he needed, and he’d insisted on sharing the food with you, not taking no for an answer. He was just as stubborn as you were.

When he was done, you went and turned on the shower, trying to find the perfect temperature before going back to him.

“Do you have clean pajamas?” you held out your hand to help him up from bed, and he slid his hand into yours without hesitation. When he stood up, you saw that he was only wearing a pair of gray sweatpants, hanging low on his hips. Of course you immediately zoned in on that, staring at the dark patch of hair trailing down from his belly button and disappearing under the waistband.

“You alright?” There was a bit of teasing behind his question but you quickly recovered and just gave him a nod before gently pushing him in the direction of the bathroom.

“I’ll grab a clean towel and some clean clothes for you,” you were whispering, not trusting your own voice not to give you away, “I’ll lay them on the counter but I…I won’t look. Promise. I mean there’s the shower curtain so I wouldn’t see anything, but I, ugh - I’m not gonna watch you shower. That would be weird - n-not that I wouldn’t want to see, but I - wait. No, I mean-”

“Relax,” he laughed at your nervous stammering as your face warmed up. Would it be too much to ask for the floor to open up and swallow you whole? It would have been better than having to look at him again, “you’re cute when you’re nervous.”

“I’m not…” you waved your hand before stepping out of the bathroom and almost closing the door the whole way, “b-be right back.”

You could hear him giggling under his breath as you waited for him to get into the shower, listening for the swish of the curtain. You had to get a hold of yourself before you made a complete fool of yourself.

“Fuck,” you hissed as you dug into his dresser to grab some pants and a shirt. His drawers were surprisingly organized for what you’d expected from him, and it didn’t take long to gather the items. They were soft in your hands and you couldn’t stop yourself from bringing them to your face and inhaling the smell of the cheap detergent mixed with his scent. It was intoxicating and you were half tempted to steal a shirt for yourself to wear, “shit. Get it together.”

You rapped your knuckles against the door before quickly darting in to set everything on the counter and almost ran back out. While he was showering, you grabbed some clean linens out of the small closet that served as storage, and changed his sheets for him. It wasn’t much, but you hoped the feeling of being clean and sleeping in a clean bed would make him feel a little better.

Grabbing the dirty sheets, along with the discarded clothes laying on the floor, you started the washer. It wasn’t much, but it was one less thing for him or Wayne to worry about. When you heard the shower turn off and the curtain pull back again, your heart started racing. You were cleaning up the kitchen, unsure of what to do when he came back out. Should you pretend the moment never happened? Should you leave as soon as he was settled back in bed? Should you run out now? Should -

“Hey,” his voice was soft as he stood on the other side of the counter, a lazy smile on his features. He still looked pale and tired, but he did look better, and hopefully felt better, “thank you, for everything. You didn’t have to do any of this, sweetheart.”

“There’s nothing to thank me for,” you insisted gently, “you’d do the same for me.”

“Of course,” he motioned for you to follow him back to his room and dropped the tea towel in your hands without hesitation and padded after him. His entire face lit up when he noticed that you’d picked up around the room and he now had clean bedding, “holy shit, baby. You definitely didn’t have to do all of this.”

“Seeing your reaction made it worth it alone,” your smile was shy and couldn’t quite bring yourself to look at him, “being sick sucks so hopefully this makes it a little better.”

“More than a little,” he insisted with a small yawn before slowly crawling back under the blankets. You stood there, happy to see that he was feeling even minutely better, before deciding to leave so he could rest, “can I ask you for one more thing?”

“What is it?”

“Will you stay?” his question was so soft you weren’t even sure you’d heard him properly until he scooted over to make more room for you. You chewed on your bottom lip for a moment, knowing that you really wanted to join him, but also not wanting to push any more boundaries, “please?”

You answered his question by gently getting into the bed next him, the warmth from his body radiating onto you. He threw the blanket over you as you laid down next him, faces barely inches from each other. How was it possible that he was even more beautiful up close? You could see all of the long eyelashes around his pretty, honeyed eyes, and his full, pink lips. You spotted some faint freckles dusted along the top of cheeks and nose, a little detail you hadn’t noticed before.

“You’re staring,” he grinned as you just playfully scoffed, “don’t worry, I like staring at you too. You’re really fuckin’ pretty.”

“So are you, Eddie,” you couldn’t contain the nervous bit of laughter that bubbled up as you buried your face into the pillow. He reached a tentative hand over, tracing his fingers along your jaw before stroking your cheek. Despite the rough calloused fingertips, his touch was delicate and tender.

“Why’d you stay? When you realized I was sick?” you knew where his questioning was going, knowing you needed to tread lightly if you didn’t want to make a fool of yourself, “you didn’t have to.”

“I…I wanted to,” you whispered, “I…I wanted to make sure you’re taken care of. You’re always looking out for us, love, and you put yourself last. I want to make sure you know…how much you mean to me. I want to take care of you, Eddie. I…I care a lot about you. Like…a lot, a lot.”

“Yeah?” he asked softly as bit your lip and nodded. He touched your face again, tenderly running his thumb under your bottom lip, “I love you.”

“W-what?” your eyes widened in surprise as he laughed softly, “Eddie-”

“I’d kiss you right now,” and oh. If that wasn’t enough to make your heart practically melt and butterflies to flutter around in your tummy. He leaned in closer, so just the tip of his nose was brushing against yours, “but I don’t want to get you sick.”

“I think it’s a little late for that,” the smile on your face threatening to break it in half, “we’re in your bed, inches apart. If I’m going to get sick, I’m going to get sick.”

“My pretty girl,” he brushed his knuckle over your cheekbone, “my smart girl. If that’s the case, does that mean I can kiss you?”

“Yes,” you breathed nervously, “y-you can kiss me.”

He cupped your cheek in his hand and closed the little bit of remaining distance, pressing his lips softly to yours. It was a slow, soft little thing, and if he hadn’t been sick, you’d have grabbed him and kissed him harder. Instead, you melted into his sweet, saccharine touches, “when I’m not sick, I’m going to kiss you properly.”

“Oh yeah?” you leaned in and stole a few more pecks from him, “I look forward to that.”

“Promise baby,” he wrapped an arm around your waist and pulled you closer to his chest, “is this okay?”

“More than,” you rested your head on his chest before tangling your legs up with his, “will you do something for me now?”

“Hmm?”

“Rest,” you closed your eyes and held onto him tightly, “I’ll be right here when you wake up.”

“I can do that,” he kissed the top of your head before relaxing into the soft pillow and blankets.

“Oh and Eddie? One more thing,” he hummed under his breath, able to feel you smiling against him, “I love you too.”

been thinking abt the different dynamics and general relationships between the gang. so here's those thoughts summarized, with my more in-depth ones under the cut

chai and peppermint they have a very fun dynamic, with their bickering and bantering. the evolution of their relationship is fascinating and sweet, and i will forever love how peppermint starts caring about chai fairly early on and lies horribly about it to his face because she doesn't want to admit to anyone—least of all herself—that she's getting attached

chai and macaron their dynamic is just nice and sweet. chai helps macaron grow more confident and tries to help him relax. macaron helps chai by rooting for him and complimenting him when others won't. it's also rlly cute how they're the only ones to refer to each other with nicknames/terms of endearment (mac and little guy respectively)

peppermint and macaron endlessly fascinating to me how they both love roxanne and what she built so much that, despite not meeting due to her keeping them at arms length, they're ultimately brought together

macaron and cnmn their dynamic is so fun! cnmn's bluntness contrasts well with macaron's cautious nature. love how macaron built cnmn because he didn't want to be alone...and was self-aware enough that he needed help to also make them a therapy bot

cnmn and peppermint kind of a similar dynamic to cnmn and chai. she appreciates cnmn for his more analytical side than his goofiness

cnmn and korsica these two can be fun. korsica definitely appreciates how direct cnmn is. i think post-game, they probably bond a bit over how they both got pretty fucked up by kale physically.

chai and korsica their dynamic is just...truly fascinating to me. mostly bc of their parallels. i've made a post talking about that in the past, though, so i won't repeat myself. but i also really like their differences. the main one that i always think of is her drive to challenge herself and need to do more, which contrasts with his more lax nature

macaron and korsica these two have a lot of potential for a interesting dynamic. they both look up to and respect roxanne a lot, and knew that something was wrong with the company but did not act due to their own beliefs. her levelheadedness is a good counter for his anxiety.

chai and peppermint their relationship starts off the most strained out of all of them, with the exception of korsica for obvious reasons. something that i find interesting is how she starts to care about him fairly early on. despite being (understandably) mad at him for blowing her cover, she checks in on him and compliments him throughout the parry tutorial. later, when she shows up at macaron's lab, she runs in saying, "don't be dead!" and lies horribly about being worried about him when he asks.

the two of them both seek out loneliness and prefer to be on their own. but it's interesting how, despite being described as the "loner hacker girl," peppermint is actually far more inclined to seek help and companionship than chai. she clearly doesn't want to admit that, though, considering how, as i said earlier, she lies about being worried about him. she does sort of let it slip when she mentions how 808 provides companionship as well as being a spy drone, though

the two of them have a very fun dynamic. they bicker and banter. their interactions are often filled with a sort of confidence, if that makes sense. not really sure how to explain. all of the lines they say to each other when she gets called in are sort of assertive in some capacity; that same confidence. there's a growing trust there.

chai and macaron their relationship and dynamic is very nice. there isn't as much to say as the previous dynamic, but that's because they don't rlly have a whole lot of growth in terms of theirs. it stays basically the same the whole time. but that makes sense and works well, because macaron's growth is centered around him becoming more confident. which chai is great for, because he's probably the most confident member of the whole gang aside from peppermint and probably cnmn.

they're the only members of the gang to refer to each other with any sort of nicknames/terms of endearment (chai calls him mac; macaron calls him little guy), which is neat. also really cute.

also, to discuss the lines that they say when he's called in: they're actually fairly assertive and confident. they have no lines where they check-in on each other, but this time there are no exceptions. i honestly find this a little strange, i feel like out of all of them, macaron would want to check on chai the most.

peppermint and macaron something that i find so interesting about their relationship is how they both seemed to be very close to roxanne despite the ways she held them at arms length, yet they never met until recently-ish. it makes sense why. but it really does make me wonder if roxanne never even had pictures of her kids in her office or anything similar. i also find it fascinating how their love of roxanne, and what she built, is what eventually causes them to meet

we don't really get to see them interacting one-on-one much, but they seem to get along relatively well. they have a lot of similar interests and hobbies (stem stuff), which definitely helps with that. i can imagine them helping each other out with projects when one of them is struggling with a certain bit of code or figuring out a design or...other tech-y things

macaron and cnmn the bffs! i love them. it's really interesting to see sort of a reverse of peppermint and chai, who sought loneliness and preferred being on their own, with macaron, who was sort of forced in many ways to be on his own but chose to seek companionship by making cnmn. i also find it fascinating how he specifically chose to build them with the purpose of being a sort of therapist. it shows how self-aware he is. i also find it hilarious that he named him CRAP, most likely without meaning to

their dynamic is very fun! cnmn's bluntness has a nice contrast with macaron's more nervous nature. the way that macaron prefers peaceful options, whereas cnmn is totally down to fight, but simply can't due to macaron's preferences being reflected in their design. inaction vs action, but in a friendly and compassionate way

chai and cnmn such an interesting dynamic. the guy that supresses basically any and all negative feelings and hides his past and pains; the therapist robot that recognizes that, but is just tactful enough to not call him out on it...for the most part. i get the sense that chai is sort of wary of cnmn in some ways because of that. but he also respects them and enjoys their company. they have fun! they're both silly fellas! they enjoy puns!

i love how cnmn has his own sort of growth, and chai, while he doesn't fully know how to help them with it, does what he can: offer his support. it's very sweet. it's also interesting because it's the reverse of what you would expect. you'd think cnmn would be the one helping chai with his insecurities, but instead they're the one being offered comfort and support

cnmn and peppermint kind of a similar dynamic to cnmn and chai, but i don't think peppermint's really wary of cnmn. she enjoys his company more for his analytical side, rather than his goofy one. i think she appreciates his bluntness. she also appreciates that he knows when to and when to not share his thoughts and perceptions, for obvious reasons

i wish i had more to say about them, but similar to macaron and peppermint, we don't get to see the two of them interact one-on-one. and they don't have As much in common, aside from that cnmn knows how to hack. the two of them likely aren't particularly close, but that doesn't mean they don't care abt one another.

cnmn and korsica these two can be fun. korsica definitely appreciates how direct cnmn is. i think post-game, they probably bond a bit over how they both got pretty fucked up by kale physically. they would try to help her feel less self-conscious about her scars, and offer support on the whole in regards to some of her insecurities. in turn, she would teach them to fight and help them with their own insecurities in regards to how they feel like they don't do enough for the team

in terms of actual canon interactions, this is another one where we don't get to see very many, so i don't have much else to say. but i do think they'll become fairly close

chai and korsica these two are so interesting to me. they're the only ones with voice lines when she's called in where they ask one another if they're okay ("korsica, you got this?" "you alright, chai?"). she also actively compliments him, unlike the others ("good timing!" "very precise, chai!"). and, of course, she has her moment where she compliments him in the hideout after she joins the team. also special shoutout to him calling her "vandelay security's finest" (heard if you perform one of her jam combos)

their dynamic is just...truly fascinating to me. mostly because of their parallels. i've made a post talking abt that in the past, though, so i won't repeat myself. but i also really like their differences. the main one that i always think of is her drive to challenge herself and need to do more, which contrasts with his more lax nature

peppermint and korsica they're neat. they get along well because they're pretty similar. both assertive, tactical, and confident in their own skills; share a distaste for puns and a need to keep busy; total dorks. post-game i imagine they grow pretty close. peppermint helps korsica with her implants and things down in security; korsica helps peppermint with getting rid of some of kale's bullshittery that's still left

i'm viewing their dynamic here from a more platonic lens, but peppermint's crush is important to take into account. though i'm not sure how much it would really change up their dynamic, aside from peppermint's flustered-ness causing potential cute/silly moments

macaron and korsica these two have a lot of potential for an interesting dynamic. they both look up to and respect roxanne a lot, and knew that something was wrong with the company but did not act due to their own beliefs (macaron didn't want to fight; korsica pushed down her feelings because she had finally achieved her dream). they also both have arm implants, which i'm sure macaron helps her adjust to

her levelheadedness is a good counter for his anxiety. i imagine her presence, though perhaps intimidating at first, can actually be rather calming. especialy since she is known to offer reassurance to those that need it (her interactions with chai being the primary example). i see the two of them as pretty good friends

So, I dunno, thoughts about Witch from Mercury (including spoilers under readmore, so, y'know), because it seems like it's a cool thing to do, i guess. Maybe made more or less interesting because this is the first Gundam series I've actually paid full attention to.

In short, it's good! It's very good. But, I dunno, can't give it top marks as an alltime favorite. There are lots of superficial problems that probably mattered much more to me than they would to the average viewer, and like, you could argue that they just aren't even problems, I guess.

The biggest thing I can criticize without spoiling much of anything is that it dangles a lot over your head and then waits a long time to resolve almost any of it. It's tough for people who get anxiety, like me : ). No, that's not why I'm writing this post. This isn't a coping mechanism. Fuck off.

To reiterate, though, on the whole: good. Good show. Good stuff. Don't click "keep reading" unless you want to read a fucking novel, OK?

I have to say I think the strongest character of the show bar none is Prospera, but at the same time, she showcases the recurring problems I have with the show: firstly, that they spend way too long making Prospera sound sinister without you understanding at all why, and secondly, that it's a real shame we didn't get to learn more about her feelings and why (and how?) she'd gone to all of this trouble. I understand her goal in the abstract is to "create a world where Eri can exist", but it's not clear how exactly she intends to do that, and maybe it's just me, but those practical details can be really important in selling me on an idea.

Even so, I adore her. I adore the way she possesses so much influence over the plot despite having very little economic or political power herself - she just understands people, she understands what's at stake, and she understands how to manipulate things to get what she wants. I was so delighted to learn about her true motivation, imagine a girl kicking her feet and squealing as Prospera taunts Miorine about hearing the voices of her past that are urging her to seek vengeance. I wish she could have done more. I also wish she looked better. That helmet fucking sucked, dudes. C'mon.

I really want to say kind things about Suletta and Miorine, too - they had lovely character arcs in both seasons, Miorine in particular was a joy to have on screen at all times - but, ultimately, I also found them both very frustrating. The most engaging members of the cast by and large were side characters, my personal favorites being Chuchu, Nika, and Norea. (I guess Guel turned out pretty okay too.) It was a joy watching Norea go off the fucking deep end, even if her portrayal was a little shallow until it was a smidge too late; her final fight was beautiful and touching, especially the part where she went on a massive rampage and killed a lot of innocent people. I love me a hot girl who's a violent mass murderer.

Jokes aside; I found both of the main characters frustrating, but for different reasons. Suletta was the less frustrating of the two. Throughout season 1 I kept cringing at her total powerlessness within the narrative, which I know is kind of the point, but that doesn't mean I have to like it; at least in season 2 she develops a thin veneer of agency, and more to the point, the writers demonstrate that her lack of actual agency is in fact horrifying and not some kind of endearing country-bumpkin quirk, but it feels like it takes a long time before she can finally actually engage in the world she lives in.

To be clear, I don't just mean "she can decide for herself what she wants to do", that's her final arc, I know, I get it; more what I mean is, it feels like Suletta exists in a totally different show, an entirely different setting, for 75% of the show's runtime. She's not just clueless about all of the business politics and Earth vs Space racism; she's immune to it, it simply doesn't affect her, even when it badly hurts people she cares about, because she's unable to comprehend it, and can abstract away any threat behind Aerial's cockpit and duel herself to safety without ever understanding what was even at stake.

It's like Ender's Game but Ender himself never actually participates in any of the school politics, he just kinda is a prodigy in his own corner while the real story happens around him. If you're going to create a character who is powerless in the narrative, don't then shield her in the cockpit of a Gundam for the entire show, you know? If you're going to threaten me with her inability to understand what is going on, make good on that threat!! It just felt wasteful. She spent 16 episodes being a joke that we keep hoping will make Miorine smile, 2 episodes being depressed, and then the last 6 episodes being an actual character, and the tragedy is that I really liked that character and wish she'd been around for longer.

Miorine was much more fun, but also, much more frustrating. I wasn't especially into her character early in season 1, but she was at least a bitch in a fun (and highly sympathetic) way, and unlike Suletta she grew into a real character very fast, and got to spend the whole show actually having a meaningful impact on events around her. It was great! I have a few very small gripes about things she does - like the way she chooses to cut Suletta loose. I understand she's doing it for Suletta's safety, and I understand she's doing it because she believes Suletta won't be able to comprehend that reasoning - after all, their whole arc in season 1 was about depending on each other, and Miorine is being pressured into going back on her promise.

On the one hand, though, I feel like it was weird of her not even to try. At least try to explain to Suletta, listen, things are getting worse, you are going to get hurt, I don't want that, I need you to stop being Holder for your sake. You could even twist the knife further by having Suletta react with heartbreak but willingly agree when Prospera doubles down and tells her to do as Miorine says - imagine how betrayed and disgusted with herself Miorine would feel! For them to leave her completely in the dark, for her to fully betray Suletta with no warning and no attempted justification at all - and especially for Suletta to not question that - it just felt weird.

On the other hand, though, I'm really shocked and disappointed that Miorine didn't express more guilt over that decision. Given that her arc in season 1 revolves around recognizing that relying on Suletta is what makes Suletta happy, and she cares enough about Suletta to give her that kind of trust, you can't tell me that - even if she really believes it's necessary - she can just turn around and betray Suletta like she does and feel no remorse over it.

Overall this is a larger problem I have with Miorine; we don't get enough time with her feelings, so when everything finally collapses and she has a meltdown, it doesn't sell very well. I wanna be clear: I'll open the door myself is one of my favorite moments in the whole show, and that's why I'm sad. It could have been so much more, if we had had more time to see Miorine's heartache over what she did to her best friend, not to mention how tense and uncertain she must have been handing her full trust to Prospera, or leading a negotiation to Earth with the weight of Gundam's history resting squarely on her shoulders. I love cool, calm, reserved characters who can handle tense interpersonal conflict with a stern decisiveness. Miorine should be a slam dunk for me. But the best part about those characters is seeing behind the mask, even if only for little bits at a time, and there's just not enough.

Honestly, though, it's hard for me to hold anything against season 2 especially, because I think most of what frustrates me comes down to there not being enough time, and holy fuck, does that season go hard. I'm very ready to believe that there was all kinds of stuff cut from S2 because the sheer volume of things happening was so much. It's a shame to think that it's let down by its own density, that there was just too much happening to fit all of it into 12 episodes without a few things being left behind. There wasn't time for Miorine to introspect, there wasn't time for Miorine and Suletta to develop their relationship, there wasn't time for Prospera to get even more unhinged and weird, there wasn't time to examine how we could actually improve the world and its troubles, we just had too much to do. It's an unenviable position to be in, and I think it's fair to say the show does a great job with what it has.

Umm. Is there anything else? I could talk about the dudes. I could gush about Norea and Sophie, I guess, but I doubt I have anything particularly interesting to add there, I'm sure the takes "Norea is hot" and "I wish they could have been more toxic yuri on screen" are lukewarm at best. I could talk about Eri, I suppose, but I don't feel really strongly about her - I think she's weird, her presence as a character is very strange, the fact that she was a protagonist is weird, and just like with everything else, I think it comes down to a lack of time to be able to really get into understanding her. I can't say it's a mistake, really, so that'll just stay a mystery, and it's one I don't especially care to solve anyway. She can stay a weirdo for all I care.

Uh, I think that's kinda all? Oh, what, robot designs? Uh, Aerial over Calibarn, don't @ me. They're both sick tho.

What are some survive rarepairs you enjoy? Any dynamics you'd ever wanna explore in a shipping sense that you havent?

Uuuuh the main one was Ryo and Minoru but there are two others that I can say I don't necessarily ship (like I'm not actively playing the game and going "these two should kith maybe") but do think could be cute together

The first one is Saki and Miu, maybe not now, but when they're a little older. I like the idea of them post-game letting loose and doing all the things they were never able to before together and just growing closer and closer over time. I feel like they both have a similar quality of simultaneously being very blunt while also being afraid of being themselves too much, and they just kinda,,,get each other. They find each other's flaws endearing; it makes them feel better about their own hang ups. They could look at each other's ugliest sides and still smile and say "I think you're beautiful," and it helps them realize that "yeah, you're right, I am."

They would be super adventurous, going around trying everything from the latest food craze, to escape rooms, to camping, to just anything that catches their interest. They love to explore the world together. I also just like their opposing aesthetics. Cute n creepy. Opposites attract on the surface but actually they have a lot in common <3

They're both pretty perceptive also, so I think they'd both totally notice it if the other was feeling down and go out of their way to do something nice. Saki is good at telling exactly what's bugging Miu and how to fix it. Miu is a little worse at figuring out what'll make Saki happy (but in her defense, Saki is a little more fickle about what will and won't cheer her up), so instead she'll just ask "how can I help" and refuse to take "it's fine" for an answer.

Also think they'd play games and binge shows together. When they can't go outside, they'll just get lost in fantasy instead.

Plus you can't tell me it wouldn't be hilarious if like,,,

The other is Ryo and Kaito. I just like their vibes. I like them being happy spending time quietly together.

Ryo's still kind of a crybaby, but Kaito's surprisingly nice about it. Whatever it is he's whining about this time, he'll help him with it no questions asked. Kaito's still kind of a ✨fucking idiot ✨, just constantly hurting himself in some way or another + he's completely helpless in the kitchen, so now it's Ryo's turn to help him. Basically, they're just really good at taking care of each other!

Total enablers, the both of them. If one of them picks a fight, the other will NOT try to calm them down. If anything, they're more like

Except instead of a flower it'd be like "hold my earring"/"hold my kunemon"

Like Minoru's pretty bad too but I feel like the odds of him successfully talking their way out of it if Ryo picked a fight are pretty high. Kaito literally would not even try. "Let's talk about this" is a thought that would never cross his mind for a second. If Ryo wants someone to get punched in the face, someone is getting punched in the face; it's just a question of which one of them is gonna do it first.

Also the kinda couple that wouldn't even look like they're dating in public but are secretly kinda really sappy in private. Lotta leaning against each other and falling asleep on top of each other.

Ryo's a little extremely irritated that Kaito's taller than him even though he's younger. If they're hanging out at home, Ryo keeps making Kaito sit down so he gets to look down at him while they're talking for a change. Half the time he won't kiss him unless he's sitting down either. Kaito thinks it's stupid but goes along with it anyways. It's not his fault if Ryo's kinda cute when he's got that stupid smug smile on his face.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I remember Takuma mentioning that he thought Kaito looked older than he is at first, and I don't think Miu or Kaito ever actually said out loud to everyone else how old they are or what grades they're in...So now I'm thinking it would be really fuckin funny if Ryo thought Kaito was the same age/older than him at first and was devastated to find out he's 14 ladfjak

1.🫶 this one is a little tricky. I think that Elliot always loved Ryuga and never realized it, however I think the first one to fall would be Ryuga. Of course, he didn’t realize it at first. But I think as time went on and he started to become aware that there was a distinction in the safety he felt with Elliot compared to everyone else, he would (begrudgingly) start to have some inkling in his subconscious that he was in love with Elliot. I think that they would really REALIZE it though at the same time when they were talking their feelings out after some discourse, and they both finally come clean about their emotions, even if they don’t fully comprehend what they are.

2. 🦀 Elliot handled it very well, or, at least, as well as he could. He was nervous— maybe a little scared. But I think most of all he would be so happy. So overjoyed and giddy over the fact that Ryuga had fallen for him of all people. Ryuga, on the other hand, probably would’ve been terrified. I think he would be pretty scared of just thinking about him falling in love in general. But actually REALIZING he had fallen in love would hit him like a freight train. He doesn’t handle regular emotions well— what makes him think he can handle this? He’s powerless to stop it, and that’s what really scares him. He doesn’t want to hurt Elliot, and he fears what he might do if he dissociates or if he lashes out without meaning to. But at the same time, he knows Elliot is strong. And that Elliot knows Ryuga would never hurt him, and vice versa. I think that after the whole ordeal of confessing their feelings (without realizing there were feelings, and then after the fact get HIT with REALIZATION) Ryuga would go non verbal for a little while and take a couple days just trying to process what was going on. Elliot would never try to push him during that time, and would reassure him that whatever he chose to be with Elliot would be alright with him. His happiness would be her greatest concern. Eventually Ryuga would settle into his new feelings and slowly, VERY VERY slowly, start to open up.

3. 🐱 (LAZA YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I LIKE YOU SLY DOG HEHEHEHE)

PET NAMES. Yes. THIS is something I think about quite often when trying to flesh out the relationship of these two. Elliot would be VERY outwardly affectionate to nearly everyone, but he does take it a couple steps farther when in a relationship. He is very physically affectionate, but because of how overwhelmed Ryuga gets with physical contact sometimes, he has to dial it back and express his love in other ways. Elliot would definitely be the type to use a lot of words of endearment, mainly ones that use an adjective and the word ‘boy’ (ex: good boy, sweet boy, darling boy, ect.). Occasionally he will call Ryuga Norsk pet names like godgutten (good boy), elsking (my love), or min kjæreste (basically meaning my dearest). I imagine that when Ryuga asks for a translation of these for the first time he gets really blushy and quiet as he tries to process the sentimental praise.

Ryuga on the other hand struggles with pet names/ terms of endearment alot. He often goes nonverbal when he tries to express big emotions, so most of the time he won’t say anything. He will sign some words out like ‘love’ or ‘precious’, but for the most part he keeps it on the down low. I think that after a couple of months together he would finally feel settled enough in his emotions to call Elliot sweetheart, darling, or love—even longer to call Elliot a possessive nickname (ex: my perfect boy/girl/darling). Everytime that Ryuga calls Elliot this she gets UBER GIDDY. Blushing, giggling, arm flapping/happy stomping feets galore— Elliot would LOVE the affection. Ryuga would never admit it to anyone other than Elliot, but seeing them react that way to what he says always makes him feel confident. (Plus, he thinks the way Elliot reacts is super cute. He would definitely tease him on occasion is he’s feeling really comfortable)

apparently i have read seven books already this year, mostly because i have been too tired to do basically anything else (plus january is typically a strong reading month for me, for whatever reason). anyway that sounds like a little more than it is, since two were finishing up my locked tomb reread and two were under 100 pages (poems and essays by mary oliver and, uh, bunnicula, which i read while lying in the tub at 4 am trying to manage pain). the first non-locked tomb book i read was a far wilder magic, which is actually a book i have a LOT of thoughts on that i might get into eventually (still loved it tho! love allison saft’s prose!!) but mostly i wanted to tell you about the two romcoms i read!

i’m really so pleased with both of these books because they are apparently the first romance books i’ve ever given 5/5 stars too (unless you count kings rising, but that’s literally the only other one). i did notice that both of these are ya, which means there’s no sex in either, not even a fade to black, it just doesn’t happen over the course of the story, and i genuinely don’t know if that played a role. i kinda don’t think it did, bc my next-favorite romance book, all the feels, does have graphic sex scenes, but the reason i rated it a little below 5 had more to do with some of the writing choices in other places. SO i dunno! just something to ponder. onto the books!

the first is highly suspicious and unfairly cute by talia hibbert. this is actually my first talia hibbert, who has written a bunch of really well-loved adult romances. i’m looking forward to reading more from here because i loved her writing! it’s so full of charm and personality and literal lols. it doesn’t get boring because the narrative voice(s) are so engaging. the characters are so good in this. the main male character, brad, is also important to me because he’s very casually bisexual and also has OCD (i don’t have OCD but i have fifty other anxiety disorders in a trenchcoat and am somewhat OCD-adjacent, so a lot of his worries and intrusive thoughts really hit!). and our female lead, celine, is a fat girl, but that never ever ever comes up as a pejorative. brad constantly remarks on how beautiful she is and celine herself has a frankly enviable amount of self-confidence. and of course, both of them are black, as seen on the cover. this book truly is unfairly cute. i was rooting for the couple but i was also rooting for all the little friendships they made along the way. just a really good time.

the second one was the borrow-a-boyfriend club by page powars. this book is very ouran-coded, in that our main boy sort of accidentally joins what it is not called but very clearly is a high school host club. the boys are even sorted by Type with a capital T. more importantly this book is the purest definition of trans and queer joy. our boy noah is doing his best to “prove” he’s a boy at his new school to avoid all the little “accidents” and “slip-ups” that drove him from his last school, and it is sad to see him struggle to feel confident in his identity, but the more he’s affirmed the more his joy comes through. he’s got a very dogged personality that is so endearing. genuinely just a very lovable main character to follow. i would have liked to get to know the other characters in the club a little more but this is a pretty short book (under 300 pages) and i feel like for the length of the book we actually do get a pretty good amount of them. and they were lovable too! every time they were nice to noah and he became more embedded in this little friend group/family the happier i felt. our love interest is an absolute disaster but it was in such a quintessentially teenage boy way, especially given his upbringing. such a fun, funny (so many more literal lols) little story about male friendship and queerness and transness and boys and happiness. honestly if “ouran but in ann arbor and haruhi is actually a trans boy” sounds like a good time, do not hesitate!!

Rpg Anon: At this point, Natsumi will at least be 3-4 years older than Genji. I see he likes older woman. And humorously, you'd think I'd imagine Genji and Natsumi being together as more or less Hinazumi x Fuyupeko, but I kinda see it more as Hinazumi x Ibuki x Fuyupeko. Cuz you know, Natsumi totally gonna be a punk rock gal now. Akihiro is totally the one who gets scolded a lot by Mahiru, isn't he? Also, if he's a playboy, tell me about his escapades of charming gals and possibly even guys. If the typical anime trend is gonna follow, he's gonna end up with the tough gal. If Sayu has Mahiru's short temper, I can see her being a bit of salty rage quitter at times. Compared to Chiaki and Hajime, she's probably not on their level yet so I assume she gets really pissed when they kick her ass in games.

//First of all, WHAT!? 3-4 years is NOT that big of an age gap! That's about how far my parents are in age.

//But yeah, with Genji and Natsumi, their relationship is very interesting. On the one hand, Natsumi is absolutely the one who wears the pants between them. Like you said, she's very much a punk-rock party gal, wheras Genji is more like his mother in that they're both usually very quiet. I imagine that their relationship would very much end up being like Mahiru's and Ibuki's actually, in that they're very close friends who's personalities counteract, yet attract each other.

//What I also think would be pretty hilarious is, because Natsumi grows up to have Fuyuhiko's stubbornness and obviously his naivety as a kid, but her own brand of stubbornness is the same sort of quality that attracted Hajime to Mahiru in the first place; like being endeared to her strength and feistiness.

//And on the other end of that spectrum, even though Genji is a quiet, introspective, and intelligent youngster who lacks a strong sense of will and fighting spirit, his outbursts when he reaches the limit of his patience are similar to Mahiru's own short temper. Natsumi wouldn't expect the kind of personality gap that's shown, and it might even help to turn her on.

//Second question: Yes, Aki is the one who gets scolded the most, and he generally flirts or asks out the girls within his age group, which are usually whatever other fanchildren there are in this context, aside from his own siblings obviously.

//What I think would be funny is if his main "target" (I use the term lightly) is the Naegiri middle-child Nashio. I haven't really talked at length about the personalities of the Naegiri kids, but Nashio compared to her older sister Kuroba, has an extroverted, fun-loving personality, yet also possesses a stoic demeanor and intellect, less like that of her mother Kyoko, and more like that of Mukuro.

//Basically, she knows she's the shit, and that she's way out of Akihiro's league, and unlike most of the girls he hits on on the fly, she actually thinks he's cute and can't help toying with his feelings a little bit. But they have a genuine connection in that they both feel overly responsible despite being the middle-child, and can relate over that.

//And third and finally, yeah, Sayu takes a lot after Chiaki, but does not possess her calm and laid-back temperament 24/7. Sayu enjoys playing puzzle and fighting games as well as video games in general, but her specialty is usually ESports titles like League, Dota 2, and Valorant. She is glad to have something to bond with Hajime and Aunt Chiaki over, and she enjoys their company, but she has a mean competitive streak and detests losing to anyone. She has even threatened to doxx people before, though she doesn't think she would ever actually do that.

I just got back from seeing the movie adaptation of Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret (NO idea how it took this long to get one, the book is like 50 years old) and I spent most of the movie just grinning at the screen. Margaret is so endearing and I can’t for the life of me remember the name of the girl who plays her, but she did a great job and they cast her well. I don’t think Margaret’s parents get this much focus in the book, but you know what? I like it. Their relationship with each other and with Margaret is very sweet. Grandma Simon is also a highlight, the life expectancy line took me out.

The tug-of-war going on between both of Margaret’s sets of grandparents is painful. I do appreciate how they don’t present it as a “both sides are equally wrong” situation. Both sides are being pushy and not really asking Margaret what she wants, but they are not the same. Grandma Simon is pretty enthusiastic about the prospect of Margaret being Jewish, perhaps overly enthusiastic at times, but they also just like each other and she would obviously love Margaret regardless. The maternal grandparents, on the other hand, disowned their daughter just for marrying a Jewish guy, and the main reason they have the gall to show their faces in her house again is because they’re trying to convert Margaret to Christianity. It fucking hurts, dude. In a good way.

All of Margaret’s friends and classmates are also great, they really got the Vibes of... well, everyone, but special mention goes to Nancy Wheeler and Phillip Leeroy, who both suck in distinctly middle-schooler ways (well, they’re technically still in elementary, but they’re sixth graders, and sixth grade will always be middle school territory to me) and were portrayed perfectly. HUGE props to Nancy Wheeler’s actress for getting through that “practice kissing” scene with a straight face, I imagine it took a lot of takes. Also, she managed to make me feel legitimately sorry for Nancy when she starts crying (I could never really fully hate her because she’s Literally Twelve but she had been getting on my nerves with her... everything). Even though Nancy’s primary role in the story is to confidently spew bullshit that makes Margaret feel insecure, she is also, again, Literally Twelve and that comes through very clearly.

Whatever Moose and Margaret have going on is understated but cute. I hope they have fun hanging out after Margaret gets back from summer camp.

All in all, great movie, absolutely recommend. I loved it.

Shuya Komaki

He is super strict at school and like a big brother telling you what to do when your at his house. Gets a bit annoying but you can tell they grew up together he also has his softer sides along the way its just catching them. Like you can tell he cares from the moment he runs back into you after years not being in touch. He has some of the sweetest moments that make me want to cuddle him. Omg as things get closer between you and you talk about old times you find that both of you are like totally on the same page. Like its too damn cute... he really cherishes his sweet girl thats been part of his world and heart forever. Honestly I think I saw him being in love the moment he saves you that night soon as he saw you all his feelings flooded through. I will say this much though he is very attentive like even to the point of making sure your hair is dry, when your right out of the shower even gets the towel and dryer himself to do it for you. Its sweet and endearing in itself though.

I honestly wasn't sure I would like him but he grew on me with his sweet sentimental things he would do. Like when he would stare at you in class in the middle of the test or smile with his eyes as he walks past your desk. He takes forever to give into his feelings to tell you because he is worried about what others may think or that he could hurt you but when he finally tells you how he feels you know he is the only man in the world that matters from that point on. There is even a point where its a love triangle between him and your other best friend. This man really is wonderful and feels more real than the other two and I loved each story but he was the one I thought I would like the least and he won my heart over the most.

Ryota Mochizuki

This man took me by surprise for someone who seemed to be all prim and proper mr perfect teacher. He cared about his students but not too much until circumstances changed and then he would go through hell to save this one girls future as well as her life from a stalker. He even admits at one point because he let himself fall it made him a bad teacher and he failed his students however he would cook and take care of you any way he can. He was willing to even quit his job, and fight with the principal to keep it where you can have your dreams even if he has to give up his to do it. He never thought anyone could love him because although everyone sees the clean neat side of him at school he hates to clean and his room is a nasty mess. The moment he hears another person say they love him he is all in his heart is forever yours. I love that he loves to joke around often and honestly felt like the perfect non perfect guy if that makes sense. .

Like it was nice to see how he was so relaxed yet when he needed to be he was dominate and protective. He spoils you with your favorite meals, candy for a sweet tooth, and just love and care. He has a bit of a naughty side sadly you never get to see much of it even in the seductive side which sucks cause I feel like he might be pretty sexy in the bedroom. I would love to see more of him and plan to read more of his story. What I got of him was main story only but damn is this man sexy. He is also very caring like when someone tries to force their way on to you he stops them but then holds you like he has never hold you before. It doesn't take long to realize he has fallen in love as well. This guy is my favorite from the series and there is only 3 guys anyways.

Yohji Furuya

Oh my this man is sexy and sweet in all the right ways. He ends up being your lost love from 10 years before and that story makes this all the sweeter. He loves to joke around even with flirty jokes and even though you don't find out until the end that he called you kid and all and tried to divert you that he had no interest in you when all along he had been in love with you since he was a kid. Yes its a lot of lines crossed with him her teacher and her a student but if they have known each other before all that can that really even be counted anymore. Anyways you could tell he had a good heart from the start however was nice seeing him let you in all at once in the end.

I wish it had ended on a more seductive spot because between all the flirting he was dishing out over the time, even though he would say he was joking he really wasn't. The point being to get the seductive ending and he is your first kiss in the story. That being said never went past that when I expected like some heated up scene of they waited 10 years and couldn't wait to rip each others clothes off and make love all night. Instead I just got a simple kiss at the end of this. It is a good love story and love interest just hard to be my favorite due to that though.

favorite thing about them: I really like how calm and sweet Shuichi is. He's my favourite of all 3 main protags for this reason, he has an air of calm introvertedness that Makoto and Hajime don't, which I find really relatable and endearing. least favorite thing about them: Every protag does it, but the little somewhat rude quips he can have about the other students in his head. Be nice to them!! Youre just as weird of a guy as they are favorite line: My freaking BLOG HEADER!!!! "We stand with one foot in fiction, and one foot in reality…" This struck such a strong chord in me when I played the ending of v3. Just thinking about this line makes my heart flutter.

brOTP: Shuichi and Rantaro should've had more time to hang out together. I think they would've really gotten along

OTP: OH MAN... It has to be saimota!!! Close contenders are saigoku and saimatsu! (holding myself back from naming 5 more ships)

favorite thing about them: His earnestness!! I love the way Gonta is genuine whenever he speaks, be it about the things he loves or feels passionate about or the things that upset him. least favorite thing about them: The whole... reptites..... backstory thing. In general I'm not the biggest fan of a decent amount of his FTEs. Thankfully if I don't look at it it can't see me. Gonta was raised by wolves <3 favorite line: Gonta has some great ones but two that are standing out to me right now that Occasionally get stuck in my head are "Smile like Gonta! :D" from the bonus event with Himiko or "You make mistakes a lot... A WHOLE lot..." From a backroute towards Miu ghdsjkfsd.

brOTP: GONTA AND RANTARO OH MY GOD!!! I think they would get along so well!! Back in ch1, during big group discussions, its usually Rantaro responding when Gonta speaks to begin with. I think Rantaro would love to help Gonta look/talk about bugs and Gonta's energy would be really refreshing to him.

OTP: GOKUMOTA. On a surface level they are both athletic with science talents, who are loud and passionate about what they love, but on a deeper level I think they could really help each other and be a shoulder for the other to lean on. Gonta is extremely self deprecating, and if he got close to him there's no way Kaito would let that stand. Gonta is also very expressive, so I think he could help Kaito learn that its okay to not be okay, and to express that to the ones who care about him.

(I also like saigoku!!)

nOTP: I already talked about not liking Kokichi and Gonta, Im also not really into Romantic Miu and Gonta or romantic Kiyo and Gonta, though thats to a lesser extent. Im pretty picky about Gonta ships

random headcanon: This is one I go back and forth on, but I do have the headcanon that Gonta Might have a little sister. Her name is Tsugiko and she was either extremely young or hadn't been born when he got lost.

unpopular opinion: Not really an unpopular opinion, just something random I guess? Lots of people draw Gonta with blue butterflies, which look very pretty, but I never understood why it was always the same type of blue butterfly. I think Orange matches his colour scheme a bit better, so I'm wondering if there's any symbolism I'm missing here

this is the best infodump opportunity thank you

sam and max are two guys that are kind of detectives but not really, they solve strange cases and sometimes save the world. The franchise is about the two of them going through weird adventures, which is what you expect in a comedy cartoon series, but really what makes this franchise so fun is well, sam and max themselves

They are a very funny and endearing duo, they play off each other really well, max is the crazier one and while sam is more down to earth he shares a lot of that chaos too, they just get each other perfectly and they have been friends since forever. Sam tends to infodump and overexplain every situation they are in, Max just listens and forgets what they were talking about and immediately jumps into action without thinking, but he likes to listen to Sam :) Max tends to talk about very weird and scary things and Sam just laughs it off and thinks he's cute and says his catchphrase, which is 'you crack me up little buddy'. They are both extremely co-dependent of each other but it's cute, it's one of my favorite things about them, how much they need each other, even if this universe they live in is extremely absurd and you usually don't take things too seriously, the one thing that is always very real and very sincere is that these two care a lot about each other. There are multiple moments where you genuinely get really emotional over their relationship, I have cried about the funny dog and rabbit multiple times, trust me

This franchise has comics, a tv show and several games. Overall they are all good, but I do have a lot of criticisms for all of them, some stuff has aged really bad and it's important to acknowledge, let's not pretend it isn't there

Apart from sam and max there are a bunch of different side characters depending on the media, most of them are really fun and make the series better, i really like when sam and max have friends and i really like when sam and max hate someone together. They also even adopt several kids

I feel like the one thing this franchise is well-known for is that these two guys are gay (well sam is actually bi) and as a sam and max expert i have to say: this is very correct, they are indeed pretty gay. The thing about these two is that it's the rare case where it's not just the fandom shipping two guys that are next to each other, their relationship is the main core of this franchise and there are several moments of these two talking about being partners for life and making comments about being attracted to the other and they have been married multiple times and- *insanely big compilation of all their gay moments* there is actually way too much in this franchise that indicates these two might be a little gay. In fact Max is like, canonically gay, because another one of the catchphrases and running jokes of the franchise is that Max makes a comment about finding women attractive only for Sam to say 'max you dont even like girls' and max is like 'i forgot' (max has several moments where he forgets stuff, this is just one of them). I personally also see Max as aro, since he talks multiple times about disliking romance, and overall i think his relationship with sam doesn't have a specific label, they are just gay life partners and it's awesome

I could go on for hours, if anyone has questions about sam and max i'd be happy to answer, i love these two so much and i can talk about them for several weeks. Thank you so much for giving me an excuse to infodump about them

What's your thoughts about all this Nancy/Steve thing in S4? Not gonna lie, I'm kinda disappointed. I love Nancy/Jonathan relationship and how they built it though the show. And I think Steve had an incredible development to keep being trapped in this crush on Nancy forever. Get over it, writters. I want him to be happy.

I do not like Nancy/Steve. I didn't love it in S1, not because I didn't like Steve but because I didn't like Nancy. She's grown on me, but still.

In S4, the writers didn't seem to know what to do with Steve or Nancy. Nancy is now this big leader whose main thing is that she's a reporter and she shoots guns. Steve is now the babysitter, comedy relief, really cool and good against monsters. On paper, that would make a pretty good couple. But they don't.

We already saw Nancy/Steve in S1. We already saw what they're like. Yes, they've both grown up since then, but you'd think that would move them away from each other. Now it's like they're moving backwards. It's not character growth just because Steve explicitly says Nancy gave him character growth.

I think it's mildly realistic that Steve would be attracted to Nancy still. But that he just can't get over her? Like there aren't girls out there who are better for him? Like ROBIN? Yes, they made Robin a lesbian, but before that they planned on her getting with Steve. The entire bathroom scene in S3 was a misdirect, sure, but what Steve said was true. A girl like Robin was better for him than a girl like Nancy Wheeler. So who's to say there's not more than one girl like that out there for him? Why is this character trapped in this one trait? Which is that he has a crush on this one girl?

She already picked Jonathan. She shouldn't be giving him those eyes throughout S4. It's not fair to him. And it doesn't make her all that likeable, honestly.

No, of course Nancy is attracted to Steve. You can't blame her. But for them to continue to make Nancy flip-flop between these two guys is not relatable in a good way. It doesn't endear us to her.

It's only compelling if you love Steve and you ship him with happiness. Most people don't want it for Nancy, they want it for Steve, because we're told Steve wants it. But why does he want Nancy? It doesn't make sense. She dumped him. She picked someone else. Yes, she went through trauma, yes, there were extenuating circumstances that put a strain on her relationship with Steve, but that aside, she chose Jonathan. Steve faced down the demogorgon with her too, just like Jonathan did. Steve went back into that house to save them from the demogorgon, and he didn't have to. And in the end, she wanted Jonathan instead. From Steve's perspective, especially at the end of S2, it makes no sense for him to still want Nancy Wheeler. She hurt him. She lied about her feelings for him. She cast him off for someone else.

I'm not here to trash Nancy, I'm just saying what it must be like from Steve's perspective. Why does he want her? Wanting someone who did string you along, who can't make up her mind, who did all the things I mentioned up there to him? Yeah, that makes no sense. Especially for a character like Steve, who's supposed to be growing.

This isn't growing. It's relapsing.

And what about the six lil nuggets thing? That whole scene made no sense, and neither did its follow-up in the Upside Down. In S1 we're shown very clearly that Nancy does not want the suburban life. She doesn't want to get married and have a family like that. She even reiterates IN THE RV that while traveling and being married sounds nice, six kids does not sound nice to her.

And this is the girl Steve just has to be with? He can't picture anyone else? She doesn't even share what he wants most. He wants six kids. Does he seriously think Nancy Wheeler will be the smiling wife bearing him that pack of Harringtons? She won't. She's a feminist. She's very self-motivated and impulsive and wants what she wants for herself. Being a wife and a mother takes sacrifice. Nancy Wheeler doesn't sacrifice anything for anyone.

Wait this is becoming me trashing Nancy-

She is growing on me, I swear. Who among us was not her biggest fan when she shot the crap out of Vecna.

Anyway! Yeah, I think the Nancy/Steve thing was really stupid. Jonathan and Nancy were built very realistically together, if a little rushed. I'm not a big fan of two characters having a will-they-won't-they until some external character shows up and literally tells them all the character traits they have that would make them a good couple and urges them to become a couple. (*coughcough*Murray*coughcough*)

I just don't think the writers know what to do with these three characters anymore. They don't know what to do with Nancy besides "strong, independent woman with Barb trauma and heart eyes for Steve, no Jonathan, no Steve-". And they know we all love Steve, but they don't know what to do with him either. He's already been redeemed, what next? Make him the leader? No, that's Nancy's job now because Women. Even Steve himself knows he has no direction. Might as well drool after Nancy again.

Those are my thoughts. Sorry if they're unpopular! You'll see if you read my fic that I actually like Steve and Nancy separately. I do. But putting them in a love triangle was a mistake. Give Steve a girl that's good for him or don't give him a girl. Give Nancy a relationship that makes her a better person (good for her) or don't give her a boy.

If it was really just that Steve was immature when they were together and that's why it eventually didn't work, then maybe Nancy would like him nowadays. But that's still not a sustainable girlfriend. Someone who dumps you for another guy while you're figuring things out and then wants you back when you've been cooking a while longer? No thanks. Run, Steve.

oops i ended up rambling a lot so im putting this under a cut, basically its my trigun modern au thoughts for the main 4 (plus kuroneko) so yea. hi

modern au to me vash and meryl have been besties since middle school. when they first met meryl had a crush on him but then she got to know him more and was like he's kind of pathetic actually. and after her crush went away they developed more of a siblingy friendship vibe, always bickering and annoying eachother but still ready to throw down for the other at the drop of a hat. and milly and wolfwood dated in highschool and were eachother's first like everythings. and then they both realized they were gay and broke up amicably and stayed really good friends.

milly and meryl meet when they work at the same place ofcourse. coworkers to friends to lovers moment. at first meryl is kind of astonished at milly's... everything, and like she wants to not be endeared by her but like. its milly. everyone is endeared by her! meryl was doomed from the start to fall in love. and milly is equally head over heels but shes soooo much better at being casual about it than meryl is. meryl is chill most of the time but she very frequently gets flustered as fuck around milly and becomes kind of a mess. meanwhile milly just acts as sweet and silly as she always does, so meryl gets all in her head about it like ohh she probably doesnt feel the same way since shes always so calm. but in reality milly is like haha i would do anything for this small and loud pretty woman and she daydreams about their wedding all the time. and milly flirts with her all the time but meryl is always like "oh surely she didnt mean it that way! lots of things milly says come out the wrong way, she just doesnt realize how it sounded!" but milly was doing it on purpose and is getting increasingly distressed over how else she could make it obvious to meryl. eventually she just straight up tells her like meryl i have romantic feelings for you and have had them for a while now! ive been flirting with you for ages but you always brush me off! and meryl is like THAT WAS ALL ON PURPOSE? milly OF COURSE IT WAS ON PURPOSE! and the misunderstanding is resolved and they start dating. at this point in my head the main four already all live together so i think eventually millymeryl would just. silently combine their rooms. they dont tell vash and wolfwood when they do though because they dont want either of them to try and claim the now extra room, nor make it a shared space. they LIKE having two rooms thank you very much. they get caught at some point and vash gets all pouty about it but wolfwood is like thats fucking hilarious. i would do the same. great job girls. and the girls get to keep their extra room of course.

as for vashwood i think they meet by chance and have like. the opposite of a meetcute. at first theyre like oh this guys an asshole! and think thats it. but then milly and meryl start hanging out more and they introduce their respective besties, which oops surprise they already know eachother! because they were both dicks to eachother in public one time! and its awkward as fuck at first but they end up accidentally bonding over like. well knowing them they probably do something nice for some random kid and thats how they start to be like "hmm maybe i didnt give this guy enough credit, he does seem like a nice dude. ill be easier on him now i guess" and like they still love to annoy eachother. but they have found like a mutual comraderie over it. its all good natured bickering and ribbing. and they both find it entertaining to team up and annoy meryl as much as possible. i think at some point they would both just realized like, oh shit hes one of my best friends and also i think im in love with him? well we dont have time to unpack all that! and they both try to pretend theyre normal. and fail. i think they would end up hooking up after a party or something similar and freak out but then agree on like a fwb situation. and they still are refusing to confess to eachother or believe that their feelings could be reciprocated. meryl wants to hurt them but milly is like ohh meryl theyll figure it out, they just need time! so meryl tries her best to stay out of it and not kill them in their sleep. shes being so brave and strong and were all so proud of her. and idk what would end up making vashwood confess but i think it would be like, some kind of frightening event where theyre afraid of losing eachother. so they finally just go for it cause they dont wanna risk never telling the other how they feel and losing the chance to. and so they FINALLY get their shit together and kiss or whatever. all is well for them.

btw as previously stated all four of them would be roommates in my mind. and kuroneko is their shared cat that adopted them by force one day. milly is the best with kuro, shes very affectionate and sweet and spoils her, and kuro knows it and loves it. meryl sometimes gets frustrated with kuro and doesnt think kuro likes her that much, but they get along pretty well and dont have any issues. vash LOVES kuro and wants to pet her all the time but kuro is so cold to him and it breaks his heart so bad. every now and then she will show him a tiny spot of affection and it keeps him going for months. wolfwood would be like "dads with the cat they didnt want" he would act all annoyed by her and deny liking her but that is his baby and hes carrying her on his shoulders and cooking her fresh chicken to eat because its good for her health and it would be rude to cook chicken for everyone else's dinner and not include her. he buys her collars with cute bows and patterns but if any of the others asked him he would say someone else in the house is responsible. he isnt fooling anyone.
