MC stepped out of the police station, relieved to have finally finished the last report on the Hannah case, feeling the warmth of the sun on their face and the crisp spring air filling their lungs. They glanced at their watch, already mentally mapping out their route to the next town where their expertise was needed. But before they could take another step, a mysterious figure clad in black approached them, sunglasses hiding his eyes, a hood obscuring his features.
"Are you MC?" he asked, his voice low and gravelly.
They nodded cautiously as he handed them a sealed envelope without another word. Without waiting for a response, the enigmatic figure vanished into the bustling street. Intrigued and slightly unnerved, MC tore open the letter, their curiosity piqued by the unexpected delivery, despite already having a premonition about the sender of this letter..

𝘔𝘺 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘔𝘊,
I'm sending this letter to assure you of my safety.
As I sit here, penning these words to you, my heart races with both excitement and trepidation. The events that unfolded during our recent mission have left me both exhilarated and wounded, both physically and emotionally. But above all else, they've left me longing for your reassuring presence.
I write to you now, not from a place of despair, but from a place of hope and determination. Despite the close call and the injuries sustained, I want you to know that I am safe and on the path to recovery. The mine left me with several, light injuries. The burns may sting, but they are nothing compared to the ache in my heart from being away from you.
MC, our partnership has been nothing short of extraordinary. Together, we've faced challenges that most would shy away from, and emerged victorious against all odds. The way you fearlessly tackled every obstacle, with unwavering resolve, fills me with an indescribable pride. You are the true hero in this story.
Yet, amidst the chaos and danger, I can't shake the feeling of guilt for putting you in harm's way. Please know that it was never my intention to cause you worry or pain. If anything, I am in awe of your strength and resilience, and I am eternally grateful for your unwavering support.
As we embark on this temporary separation, I find solace in the knowledge that it is only a matter of time before we reunite. I've been informed about the City near Duskwood, where they requested your assistance. Moonvale awaits us with its mysteries and challenges, and I have no doubt that together, we will conquer whatever obstacles lie ahead.
Until then, my love, take comfort in the knowledge that I carry you with me always, in every beat of my heart and every thought that crosses my mind. Stay strong, stay safe, and know that I am counting down the moments until we can be together again.
I, too, will personally ensure your safety. Nymos and I are committed to clearing your path and doing whatever it takes to protect you. I've shared my vulnerability with you before, and in light of the recent events at Grim Rock, I find myself even more dependent and at your mercy.
I'm incredibly proud of you for cracking the case and saving my sister. The challenges you confronted, the horrors you endured, and the loss of Richy... I can only begin to fathom the emotional anguish you're experiencing, but I vow to be your unwavering support, concealed in the shadows, yet ever-present by your side, even if you cannot perceive me. I will never leave you alone.

He likes the idea of feeling safe and you being taller than him gives him some comfort
Marc is probably second
He doesn’t like feeling weaker than someone, but the longer you date the less he views everything like a fight
Instead of feeling weak or on edge he ends up feeling safer
Jake takes a while to warm up to you in the first place
He’s the one meant to protect them and well, being taller than them means you’re a threat
But like Marc he’ll warm up to you
That doesn’t mean you should expect him to like it though
Genuinely dislikes you pointing out that he’s shorter than you, so avoid that
Steven and Marc don’t mind, though Marc would prefer you don’t make fun of him too often
Steven will not hesitate to ask you to get him things
He thinks it’s cute
Marc and Jake will exhaust every possible option before finally asking you to grab something to high for them

Also unrelated but I like to imagine that both Tommy and Jake got good grades, just by different means. Tommy understood concepts with relative ease and enjoyed learning whereas Jake was too determined/stubborn to let himself fail, especially when Tommy was doing so well (sibling logic) and so he worked hard to keep up even if he wasn't all that academically inclined. He would definitely cut corners where he could though don't get me wrong.

-When they were in Hogwarts, pure of heart dumb of ass Jake Sully was trying his fucking hardest to send his brother to an early grave doing stupid Quidditch tricks every day. I think you're right, he is a hard worker and he does get good grades. Listen, if you get the grade it doesn't matter how you got there even if you cheated a bit. He loves to go on long jogs around the grounds before his accident.
-Our man is determined to be an auror, and he spends the summer in a program for young 17 year old wizards going into the program.
-Jake is held back a year when he looses a leg in an accident involving dark magic. He's lucky to be alive, some others weren't. He comes back really disillusioned about the fucking wizard cops, really sullen, and really lost. Tommy graduated in the year he was gone and Jake had a long year of nothing to recover. And he can't do his favorite thing anymore which is fly.
-Neytiri moved to the school the last year and is now in Jake's year. She moved there because her mom is the new healer. Jake meets her on his first weekly check in about his leg, as she is there helping her mother in the Hospital Wing.
-When they are walking out together she tells him she's sorry about his leg. He says he doesn't mind the leg as much, he just wishes he could still fly. Neytiri says he doesn't know why he couldn't.
-That weekend she takes him into the forbidden forest and shows him the thestral, creatures he's never seen before, but after the incident where he lost his leg, he can. Neytiri's sister died in front of her, and she can see them as well.
-Cue a year of intense thestral flying lol, thestral racing, jEYTIRI ALWAYS FALL IN LOVE VIA FLYING. God I guess there should be a Top Gun au for them. I gotta fit flying into the modern au.

omg the jake daniels news has made me so emotional 😭 to see he was inspired by josh cavallo was so heartwarming and it's amazing that he feels comfortable enough to come out, which also hopefully reflects the changing attitudes within the profession which was long overdue. i hope he has good people around him and that he is taking care of himself. he is only 17!!! what a huge thing for him to do. it makes me so happy that a young footballer like him is in an environment where he feels he doesn't have to hide a part of himself. sounds cheesy but it makes me hopeful for the future and i hope there are other footballers who are inspired by or take comfort in it

My beloved MC
I knew that you would come visit me in prison, even if I told you not to, I knew that you would be unaffected by it. But you were aware that it would still be a great deal of value to me to be able to enjoy your company for at least a few minutes.
But I regret that you had to see me like that, hands and feet tied up, anchored in the ground. A true miracle they didn’t stick my fingers together, I would not be surprised.
While I was being on the run, I visited many dangerous places where I witnessed terrible things. These dark truths revealed the sad world we live in once more.
The abyss of humanity, crime, drug victims, starving. But although the shadows had taken everything, and although I was hunted and could not take a step without planning everything specifically, I was free. I was at liberty.
This has now been taken from me. Now I am captured. Grey walls that seem to be suffocate me have been the only thing I see for 23 hours a day. But the very moment you were led through the door, my lonely world lit up for a moment as brightly as never before.
Everything around you looked like black and white painted but around you life shone. Looking into your eyes made me feel more hopeful than ever.
The moment you took my hand, I felt our hearts colliding again and again.
I had no idea I would ever experience such a deep feeling of happiness again, and I want to express my gratitude to you for it. Thank you with everything I have, even if this is not much at the moment.
I'm composing these words here because I couldn't express myself to you face-to-face. I'm uncertain as to why. I was lacking in confidence. Despite that, I still have a strong resistance to drag you into my dark world. But I know that you decide for yourself and I don’t have the right to decide about your life.
At least now you always know where I am, as it looks like I won’t be able to leave this place anytime soon.
But before I digress again – what I desired to tell you is that I love you. I love you more than anything in the world. I love you more than I’ve ever loved anyone.

Catie Edmondson and Carl Hulse in the New York Times yesterday noted that House speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) cannot bring his conference together behind a budget plan. He wanted to pass a bill demanding major concessions from President Biden before the Republicans would agree to raise the debt ceiling, both to prove that he could get his colleagues behind a bill and to put pressure on the Biden administration to restore the old Republican idea that the only way to make the economy work is to slash taxes, business regulation, and government spending.
McCarthy was pleased to have passed his measure with not a single vote to spare, but it appears he got the vote because everyone knew it was dead on arrival at the Senate. According to Edmonson and Hulse, McCarthy got the bill through only by begging his colleagues to ignore the provisions of the measure because it would never become law. He urged them to focus on the symbolic victory of showing Biden they could unite behind cuts.
But today at the Brookings Institution, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan outlined a very different vision of the global economy and American economic leadership. First of all, just the fact this happened is significant: Sullivan is a national security advisor, and he was talking about economics. He outlined how Biden’s “core commitment,” “his daily direction” is “to integrate domestic policy and foreign policy.”
Sullivan argued for a new economic approach to the challenges of the twenty-first century. The Biden administration is trying to establish “a fairer, more durable global economic order, for the benefit of ourselves and for people everywhere.”
The U.S. faces economic challenges, he noted, many of which have been created by the economic ideology that has shaped U.S. policy for the past 40 years. The idea that markets would spread capital to where it was most needed to create an efficient and effective economy has been proven wrong, Sullivan said. The U.S. cut taxes and slashed business regulations, privatized public projects, and pushed free trade on principle with the understanding that all growth was good growth and that if we lost infrastructure and manufacturing, we could make up those losses in finance, for example.
As countries lowered their economic barriers and became more closely integrated with each other, they would also become more open and peaceful.
But that’s not how it played out. Privileging finance over fundamental economic growth was a mistake. The U.S. lost supply chains and entire industries as jobs moved overseas, while countries like China discarded markets in favor of artificially subsidizing their economies. Rather than ushering in world peace, the market-based system saw an aggressive China and Russia both expanding their international power. At the same time, climate change accelerated without countries making much effort to address it. And, most of all, the unequal growth of the older system has undermined democracy.
Biden has attempted to counter the weaknesses of the previous economic system by focusing on building capacity to produce and innovate, resilience to withstand natural disasters and geopolitical shocks, and inclusiveness to rebuild the American middle class and greater opportunity for working people around the world.
After two years, the results have been “remarkable.”
Large-scale investment in semiconductor and clean energy production has jumped 20-fold since 2019, with private money following government seed money to mean about $3.5 trillion in public and private investment will flow into the economy in the next decade. Building domestic capacity will bring supply chains home and create jobs.
But this vision is not about isolating the United States from other countries. Indeed, much of the speech reinforced U.S. support for the positions of the European Union.
Instead, the U.S. is encouraging our allies—including developing nations—to build similarly to increase our united economic strengths and to enable the world to address climate change together, a field that offers huge potential for economic growth. The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework with 13 Indo-Pacific nations is designed to create international economic cooperation in that region, and the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity, which includes Barbados, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Uruguay, is designed to do the same here in the Americas. The U.S.-E.U. Trade and Technology Council and our trilateral coordination with Japan and Korea are part of the same economic program.
With this economic approach, the U.S. does not seek to cut ties to China, but rather aims to cut the risks associated with supply chains based in China by investing in our own capacities, and to push for a level playing field for our workers and companies. The U.S. has “a very substantial trade and investment relationship” with China that set a new record last year, and the U.S. is looking not to create conflict but to “manage competition responsibly” and “work together on global challenges like climate, like macroeconomic stability, health security, and food security.” “But,” he said, “China has to be willing to play its part.”
In today’s world, Sullivan said, trade policy is not just about the tariff deals that business leaders have criticized the administration for neglecting. It is about a larger economic strategy both at home and abroad to build economies that offer rising standards of living for working people.
The administration is now focusing on labor rights, climate change, and banking security in this larger picture. Through organizations like the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment the administration hopes to mobilize hundreds of billions of dollars in financing in the next seven years to build infrastructure in low- and middle-income countries and to relieve debt there.
“The world needs an international economic system that works for our wage-earners, works for our industries, works for our climate, works for our national security, and works for the world’s poorest and most vulnerable countries,” Sullivan said. That means replacing the idea of free markets alone with “targeted and necessary investments in places that private markets are ill-suited to address on their own.” Rather than simply adjusting tariff rates, it means international cooperation.
And, Sullivan said, “it means returning to the core belief we first championed 80 years ago: that America should be at the heart of a vibrant, international financial system that enables partners around the world to reduce poverty and enhance shared prosperity. And that a functioning social safety net for the world’s most vulnerable countries is essential to our own core interests.”
This strategy, he said, “is the surest path to restoring the middle class, to producing a just and effective clean-energy transition, to securing critical supply chains, and, through all of this, to repairing faith in democracy itself.” He called for bipartisan support for this approach to the global economy.
Sullivan noted that the phrase “a rising tide lifts all boats” came from President John F. Kennedy, not from later supply-side ideologues who used it to defend their tax cuts and business deregulation. “President Kennedy wasn’t saying what’s good for the wealthy is good for the working class,” Sullivan said, “He was saying we’re all in this together.”
Sullivan quoted Kennedy further: “If one section of the country is standing still, then sooner or later a dropping tide drops all the boats. That’s true for our country. That’s true for our world. [And] economically, over time, we’re going to rise—or fall—together.”
“And that goes for the strength of our democracies as well as for the strength of our economies.”
Foreign policy journalist Laura Rozen noted that David Wessel of Brookings asked Sullivan for a quick summary of this new economic vision. Sullivan answered: “We’re at a moment now where we need to build capacity to build the goods & invent the technologies of [the] future & we’re going to make the investments to do that—us, +everyone who wants to be in on [the] deal. & then we’re going to build the resilience we need…so that no natural disaster or geopolitical shock can stop us from getting things we need when we need them….”
