It was rare to see you two apart from each other. Wherever you went, he always seemed to be by your side. A few feet behind, watching your back. A few feet ahead watching your path. To your left and to your right. Always within eyesight. Always within reach. And you can’t say you hated having a knight by your side, ready for any and everything around you.

Granted, he was the type of knight that would be too small for armor. So he wore the clothes of Ordon, just like you did. And granted, he was the type of knight that would be too tiny to hold both a metal sword and a heavy shield. So he used a slingshot and his wits instead. And yet, he was the perfect size for spotting dangerous bullies over the horizon. The perfect size for taking care of the scary bugs that managed to crawl real close before you noticed them. The perfect size for holding an umbrella over your head as it rained.

The perfect size for taking your hand in his whenever you asked.

That’s all you can think about, with warm cheeks as he leads you further into the village with your fingers wrapped around his. As the sun rose this morning, you met with him, as you always did. Over the hill by your house, he would wait for you to push open your door and say goodbye to your parents for the day. And by the time you were finished with your “I love you toos”, he was already by your side, blue eyes filled with both life and mischief as he scooped up your hand and pulled you to his side.

Today was a day unplanned. No adventures mediated on from the night before. No quests drawn up and designed throughout the weeks. A day with no chores. With no responsibilities. A day for just you and him until the sun disappeared into the sky and the moon reawoke from its sleep. So when you asked if he knew how he wanted to spend the day, you didn’t expect him to say yes. Then again, your knight always did have a funny way of surprising you.

Like always, he carried himself silently throughout the village. No words passed between the two of you as your stories about the dream you had last night have been exhausted with the walk to this point. Only small glances over his shoulder. Only eyes that watched to see if you stumbled and stuttered as he took the lead for once. Letting his actions speak louder than any word you’ve ever heard him utter. But truth be told, you didn’t need pretty words from your knight. Nor did you need beautiful poems from your hero. You just needed him. Your knight. Your best friend.

Your Link.

But as your booths brush against the dirt roads of your home, your eyes are caught on the figure of the boy in front of you. Was he getting taller? The thought crossed your mind once or twice in the past, but you couldn’t be too sure. But one thing was certain- his strides were getting longer, and his shoulders were getting broader. His hand was getting larger, and his eyes were getting older. Your knight is growing up. And deep down inside, you know you are too.

Sure, he’s still about the same size as you are now. His voice may be the same pitch as yours, and you’re coming closer and closer to beating him at a race every time you try again. But you know that’s soon to change. You heard the voices of the village talk and talk and talk about you two. About how you’re going to grow up to be such a beautiful addition to the village. About How link is going to grow into such a handsome young man. About how you’re destined to take over your family’s business. About how he’s about to start his job as a ranch hand sooner than you may realize.

But Link doesn’t talk about that. He doesn’t talk about how your hands no longer wrap around his as much. He doesn’t talk about how you take one and a half steps to keep in time with just one of his. He doesn’t talk about that. The changes. The growth. The future. So you don’t either. Because for some reason you have a feeling that for you and for your knight- it will always be okay.

So you walk through the village in a welcomed silence between you and your best friend. You smile back at him as he glances over his shoulder to check on you. You smile at your neighbors as coo over you. And you smile at yourself because by the goddesses- you can’t help but smile when you’re happy too.

Because you’ll always have these moments. You’ll always have the moments where he steps in the water just to help you cross the wobbly stones. You’ll have the moments where you lose the afternoon to cleaning the treehouse and racing home before your mother says she can see the moon. The moments where you cheer on his slingshot tricks and the moments where he encourages you to join him on his fishing trips. You’ll have the moments when your parents finally agree to the sleepover you’ve both been begging for. And you’ll have the moments when you both fall asleep hand in hand, right before the sun peaks through the window in your living room.

But most of all, you’ll have the moments where you chase him in the woods, always just a few steps away from that mess of blonde hair and blue eyes. A few feet ahead of you. A few feet behind you. To your left and to your right. He’s always been there.

Because while you and your knight may be growing up now. You have a feeling you’re not growing apart any time soon. And you can’t say you hated it. After all…

It’s hard to hate growing up with your best friend, right beside you.

is there any particularly reasoning in league of legends ability to suck even the strongest among us into its hole

I don't know much about League of Legends, but had a roommate once who played it. He was in grad school for programming and I never saw him go to a class, nor do anything on his computer other than play League of Legends. He slept regularly but i never saw him eat. He often had a couple bananas on his desk, despite never leaving to shop as far as I ever saw. He never ate the bananas. They always rotted away and were then replaced with fresh ones, which would then rot as he sat there for hours, days, months playing League of Legends. Whatever was going on, it does indeed seem to have quite a hold on people who lack a strong will of their own.

Unrelated, I will be away from the blog for the foreseeable future as Zelda needs my help and I can't stop trying to build the perfect log-tank to rescue her. I gave it canons and lasers and 16 wheels but I'm still trying to get it to fly. After that I need some molduga bone weapons because I have lots of gnarled sticks and some armor that gives a 180% buff to bone weapons, so I had to unlock the house building mechanic to store them and accidentally walked into a cutscene for a major regional phenomenon quest and have to explore the last few lightroots there before I can get the device machine that gives control sticks.
