hi! i've been following you for quite a while now, since chaconne was still being updated (i miss the good times 😭), and now getting to read your new lawyer!agatha au (new good times!!) made me curious about something.
have you always wanted to go to law school? especially being a trained, professional musician, it just makes me very curious as to why you want to go to law. asking as someone starting law school soon but seriously considering a major in music, and as an enormous fan of your written work. there is so much love and passion for music in your works, it is heart-touching.
with love,
- law school anon 🥹
Hi law school anon! ✨ (this is going to be a long reply, I apologize)
Oh wow you’ve been here for a while haha, thank you for sticking with me for the past few years!! I do miss writing Chaconne, but I’m excited to be posting the sequel soon (I’m 2 chapters in right now, I think). And I do love Lawyer!Agatha, she’s growing on me. (she is the best time haha)
This is such a great question! I considered law school right after I graduated. I thought about becoming an entertainment attorney- a lot of the alums from my school who were music majors & went to law school ended up pursuing it, and I find the music & entertainment world to be so fascinating. I took the LSAT in 2021 and did pretty well, but I was scared I was only applying because I was struggling to find a job. I couldn’t justify applying and paying so much money if i wasn’t 100% certain I wanted to do it, if that makes sense?
But I’ve been thinking about it more and more, and now I’m more interested in pursuing something with disability law or human rights law (potentially, lol). One of my younger siblings has special needs, and I’ve spent the past couple of years acting as a caregiver for him. He’s my best friend, and I really love him so much. While I’m so thankful that he has such a strong support system, I know that there are so many individuals with both physical & intellectual disabilities who don’t necessarily have that. The world has really, truly failed them, especially the country that I live in, and it makes me so angry.
I think everyone has a driving force in their life, something or someone that motivates them to want to do better. That’s always been my brother. I want to be able to help people who don’t have someone looking out for them the way that I try to do for him. I also might not end up getting in or wanting to practice what I’m talking about, but it’s definitely been the reason why I want to go to law school.
I wish you the best of luck since you’ll be starting law school soon, (which yay, that is so so exciting and I know you’ll do great!!!) and if you’d like to share any learned wisdom or advice with me I would be very grateful haha.
Also thank you for the kind words about my fic 😭 I love writing, and I love music, and I’m so glad that it resonated with you. That’s also very interesting that you almost majored in music, what instrument(s) do you play?
Thank you for the ask!

this is like 6 months late but i just saw you mention that you wanted to become a lawyer and the idea of me getting arrested for attempted murder only to find out my attorney is the honourable Katie Klanced Herself is so surreal. get that education queen i can't wait to live in a world where everytime i see a lawyer named katie i have to genuinely consider the fact that they might run the only voltron blog that every mattered.
the chances of katie klanced being your lawyer are low... but never zero.

Hiiii I've been reading your blog for so long it's about time I sent some whump thoughts, feel free to ignore them tho.
Curious what you think about like debt? In the context of like a whumpee indebted to whumper, a whumpee whose main prison isn't a psychical one but a mental or moral tie. How far whumpee is willing to justify whumpers actions in the name of I owe them this. Or worse justifying their suffering in I deserve this. Idk just thinking some thoughts.
Also gonna dub myself 🐋 see ya :)
i fucking love it. moral ties not so much, i love a good old fashioned sneaky sly disgusting expoitative contract <3333 but moral ties can be very fun sometimes!!! and when whumpee cant even TALK abt the tie?? and the debt?? and the contract?? mmmmmmm..

Hey! I’m a 1L going into my second semester of law school and I just wanted your opinion on briefing cases? Do you think briefing cases is worth the time? I tried briefing all of my cases, but I couldn’t keep up so I stopped half way through to make more time for outlining. I haven’t gotten my first semester grades yet so I don’t know if this hurt or helped me.
Honestly this really depends on if your teacher has a bullshit in class participation component to your grade and already effectively expects you to have taught yourself the material (in which case - why the fuck am I paying for this class, sir?)
I usually set up my notes for class in advance with the case name, my usual outline setup (conclusion; issue; brief answer; analysis) and fill it in as the teacher taught. But I also had good teachers who went over each case they assigned.
ALSO, and this is important, as a 1L you have no idea what the fuck is important so how are you achieving anything in briefing cases in advance of class except wasting your time and giving yourself a stress breakout
Be free, Anon. Do the least amount of work for the grade you want as possible.

What I love about Miles' outburst on Adrian, is that Phoenix afterwards points out that it's not like him at all, like it's not his usual rudeness at court. And Miles using the exact same phrasing with her, abt choosing death, which is also uhh, points out to their similarities
Thank you for answering!
I also wanted to ask you what you think about Phoenix's life before the events of the game? I mean even before Dahlia, how lonely he should've been to always care abt and then chase after this one guy who stood up for him in 4th grade? Where his first motivation (to save Miles) coming from, I think this question is a bit unexplored in the fandom, besides the idea that Phoenix is just that altruistic and kind person. I mean he is kind, but there's gotta be roots in his childhood maybe
Oooh good point; I hadn't thought about that! Lmao Miles "I faked my death and came back After Winning Mental Health Because I Attended A Single Therapy Session" just saying the most unhinged things sir please. Also, you're right that it does feel a lot more personal than most of his other outbursts b/c of the language mirroring his own note...ough man is not okay during that whole trial huh...
Haha I think Phoenix's life before the games was completely unremarkable? I'm p sure the creators at some point said something to that effect and tbh I think it's the best interpretation for him. Because it would make more sense if he had some sort of trauma/big event but nope he's just Like That. Man is just Deranged and it's so funny honestly love that for him.
Also I love the idea of him being A Normal Guy through childhood - law school. He had a decent social circle and keeps moderately in touch with his friends after graduation through text/group chats. His law school/college group chats aren't really active but the people in it will text each other once every few months or whenever something big happens to someone. It's low-key and normal and all his friends are like yeah Phoenix. He's just a Nice Guy.
Then ofc one day he's all over the news for fucking CX'ing a bird in court and publicly exposing one of the top prosecutors in the district. All his friends are stunned. They start following his legal career and they're all slowly coming to the same conclusion that Phoenix was Actually That Crazy the entire time. And the worst part about all of this is, looking back, they're also realizing that there were definitely hints. For example, in law school he was a p mediocre student except when he Aggressively Wasn't and would just seemingly wander off and book a class. Or in college there was that time he got REALLY into that girl and then disappeared for a weekish and never mentioned her again. (His college friends thought it was a rocky break up. They are now realizing it was b/c he was on trial for murder what the fuck Phoenix.) Or in high school he got weirdly into Legally Blonde but everyone just thought he was being a theater kid and was excited that the musical had come out. But Phoenix always seemed like such a normal guy that none of his friends thought that deeply about it and now they are and well fuck.
So they DM him in their group chats and his response is completely normal too. Phoenix sees nothing weird about what he's been doing oh and how are the children Susie? He's perfectly friendly, just like they remember, and seems to think nothing of how off the rails his legal career's gone. That's when everyone finally acknowledges he is really the craziest person they know (and maybe make a separate GC to discuss What The Fuck Is Phoenix Doing Now).
Hope that made sense! I do like thinking about how "normal" Phoenix was for years - it makes the unhinged shit he does later so much funnier and I think really fits with his character? And thanks for all the asks (also sorry it takes me so long to get to these; I've just been kinda busy)!! Lmao love any opportunity to talk about how Unwell Phoenix actually is. <3

doodle, "your dog/cat keeps digging up my garden and I swear I came here to yell at you again but why did you answer the door in a towel?", Gran Torino
Tumblr media
Sorahiko, inspecting the trouble-making Great Dane’s collar: Giganto? What kinda name is that? [proceeds to walk the dog over and bang his fist on the neighbor’s front door]
Tumblr media
Sorahiko: Hey, jackass! Stop leaving your dog off-leash when it can jump the backyard walls - [door swings open; Sorahiko is stunned silent, and the Great Dane’s hangdog face nevertheless communicates great contentment upon seeing its owner]
Tumblr media
All for One, still wet from the shower, wearing only a towel tied around his waist: Hello!
Sorahiko: Your - your dog - put a leash on m - on him, geez.
All for One: Mmhm.
//
thought process behind this was ‘whose relationship most resembles a dog and its owner? oh yeah gigantomachia exists.’ probably a no powers AU, but most likely All for One is still in a business where he ‘helps’ people & Sorahiko... idk maybe gardening is his hobby and he’s still a high school teacher

immigration act of 1965
in 1965, the immigration and nationality act was passed in the U.S. to end the discrimination against immigrants who entered the states by creating a new category system. the new act allowed for many to gain better access to visas and live in the U.S. legally. because of the act, there was a massive influx of immigrants from around the world who came to the states for the “american dream”. of course, americans were upset by this act because it means there would be more foreigners and they would lose their jobs because it’s not america if there’s no racism 😍

feeling uncooperative with the prompts in the meme. between cheech and old pat which one would survive a joint venture into a thrift store? and which of them would you convert into a minor league baseball player if you had a magic wand
God yeah I reblogged that list and then read the questions and was like...this list is wack lol. Anyway THANK YOU these questions are much more important and gets really into the Hearts and Minds of these men.
Who survives a joint venture to the thrift store: Old Pat. It's Old Pat. Man has looked 40 years old since he hit puberty and has just kept growing older. Old man is in his element with the real senior citizens. However it is very important to me to mention that they're going to a bespoke thrift store for like farm and cowboy shit. Cheech could handle normal thrifting. Cheech would be great at normal thrifting. But take him to a store where it's JUST vintage farming equipment and cowboy leather shit and that city boy is going to panic. Old Pat is having a blast looking at pieces of metal that clearly spark joy in his construction worker heart but make NO sense to Cheech, son of academics, WHL overager. Cheech agreed to come to the store to push the cart but now he is manfully deep breathing while Old Pat examines a metal thing with rings. Is it for horses? Is it for wearing? Is it a BDSM thing? Do you put it on a tractor? Cheech is scared. (It is literally just a beval bit.) These stores don't exist in the Bay Area but maybe they do in idk Manitoba or Michigan or whatever. Or Gilroy, where all our dreams come true.
Minor league baseball player: the thing is, we're on Sieloff Watch (KING. ANNOUNCE YOUR RETIREMENT OR SIGN SOMEWHERE BEFORE I THROW UP) and Cheech is having his hot girl summer. So I'm inclined to say Cheech, just bc I think he has a shot in hell of making it OUT of minor league baseball. Also he is handsome like a baseball player. He has the looks for it. Not that you have to be handsome to be a baseball player but it helps. Can you imagine that man in the humid outfield of some nameless town in the San Joaquin Valley, fighting for his life in the game, the top three buttons of his jersey are undone, his curls are wilting, the uhhhh idk Fresno Nightcrawlers, AA for some cursed af West Coast team, are down 9-7 in the 8th, when the skies open up and it starts pouring...the stands, already two-thirds empty on a Tuesday night clear, while the teams run for cover under the downpour. Nick stands in the outfield and tilts his head toward the sky, feeling, for a moment, relief and peace.
#this was soooo fun thank you#i unpacked 21 boxes of books. i need to organize since the categorization is loose but at least there are no longer 24 boxes in that room#there is a box of comics i don't want and two boxes of cookbooks for the kitchen#idk what to do with the comics. the part of my life where i was an issue by issue reader of comics is over#tempted to loosely inventory and sell on ebay like here for $50 all these doa indies can be YOUR problem#i'm also missing a whole chunk of my tkams but my mom says she saw a box of them in another room#which is good bc i would literally go insane if i were truly missing any of my intl copies of tkam some of that shit was SO hard to aquire#anyway i just remembered what i was going to say which is that in the cuda frontier town au in my shower thoughts#siels is the washer woman. he runs a laundry. employs robbie (too small to ride horses) and weather (doesn't want to be a cowboy)#cheech comes from way out of town bc he's on the run from the LAW (shot a man in manitoba but the other guy had it coming)#he lives in old pat's house above the laundry. shares a bedroom with robbie. siels teaches him how to get the blood off of leather#siels falls in love but the LAW catches up with cheech and he has to run further west and old washerwoman pat and his boys stonewall the LA#siels thinks of him still on cold nights. when he can hear his boarders laughing through the walls as they play cards#what life must be like to be young and in love..... (he is literally 28)#also henry is the one room school teacher#cage replies#anon#i love this ask lol thank you so much 🙏😌

when you starting law school?
I go back and forth… I know so many attorneys who are so stressed out I’ve tabled the thought of joining that. For now, I’m trying to stay content because I have a bad habit of getting restless. I really enjoy being a paralegal and it’s a great career without all the responsibility which is right up my alley. We’ll see what happens in the future 😌

I wasn't aware that, because I consume a certain media and am part of a "fandom" I have an obligation to voice my opinion about every atrocity happening in the world. There are about 30 military conflicts happening in the world atm, with 10K+ casualties. Am I, and/or every content creator, artist and what have you, obligated to voice my 2 cents regarding every single one of these conflicts? Will whatever my opinion is, going to stop these conflicts?
it's such a good thing then that the world revolves around you 💕 you're so sure of yourself and how right you are but still sent me this message on anon, thats funny.
hey just in case someone else isn't aware either: this is not *just* about cr, but my dissappointment with them has been great BECAUSE critical role has a very large fanbase, of mostly white americans, that they could use to bring awareness to a conflict that has killed 16,000-20,000 people in only TWO MONTHS, but instead they decided to be silent about it, unlike of when they had their fundraiser for ukraine, and other political conflicts worldwide.
this on top of profiting off of SWANA culture, and a white american man using palestine as inspiration for the map of his campaign. and their slogan is "remember to love each other". how cute.
so yes, you and i and all other small artists with barely a platform at all could be silent or could be in favour or against this conflict. but the way some of yall bend backwards to excuse wrong things people on the other side of a screen do is hysterical to say the least.
i'm not even asking anyone to attack them or send them hate, i'm just asking y'all to learn to hold people accountable.
i try not to be rude to messages, but since you haven't given me the courtesy of politeness i don't have to do the same to you. that's how your reasoning seems to work anyways.

I'm not watching ROP (Amazon boycott where I can, although AWS is half the internet so) so I'm only following distantly, but THANK YOU for you Aragorn and kingship post. It's one thing where even if I can buy into the high fantasy narrative of kingship by rights, I can never forget its real-life implications. I know the last book is literally named The Return of the King, but it's really worth questioning it and not forget that Gondor was actually fine without a king for generations.
Honestly, I can respect an Amazon media boycott when it's not blatantly about fandom shit more than anything else. So more power to you on that.
With regard to the post, thanks, and no problem! Tolkien walks a narrow and complicated path with Aragorn and kingship in LOTR, which is part of the reason it doesn't bother me more. But I can't deny that it does bother me, and all the more because Tolkien is so insistent on the Stewards' virtues and competence (very much including Denethor's) right up to the last ... two days? of their 969-year reign. In a way, that only makes the royalist reasoning more pronounced.
It took awhile for me to figure out why deposing a long-standing dynasty and instituting a different one for reasons of blood bothers me so much more than having dynastic rule in the first place. But yeah, "we're going to keep having basically autocratic rule because we always have" requires a very different sort of buy-in than actively changing a long-established government to the same sort of government but with a different guy in charge for legalistic primogeniture reasons.
Aragorn is only able to get away with this because of his personal qualities, heroism, popularity, etc, but he's only in the running at all because of firmly royalist (and patriarchal) rationales, and you have to accept those at some level for the mystique to work. And there are reasons that some of us can't do it!

whispering ''kiss me'' to your lover for duo holders please, please🙏
a/n: oh man okay. this is a nebulous Modern/No Quirks!Verse, but whatever plot you might perceive, it's super unimportant. for names, it's Hisashi (AfO), Kenji (2nd), and Sanjuro (3rd). wc: 773
//
For a birthday party dedicated to Yoichi turning twenty-four, it certainly seemed more like an excuse for Hisashi to hold court with his shadier friends. Already, his older brother had excused himself from the courtyard three times, leaving Yoichi to linger uselessly at the edge of conversations that turned awkward and quiet when he came into proximity.
Same situation, new year, he thought.
And then a warm presence brushed past him, followed by a second. Yoichi held back the instinct to apologize; he blinked upon seeing the back of his boyfriend’s head--russet-brown hair, sticking up in ruffled tufts--and also the back of Sanjuro’s spiky ponytail.
Had Hisashi actually agreed to invite them? Yoichi blinked several times, just to make sure it was Kenji and Sanjuro, dressed in similar-looking suits and doing their utmost not to draw attention.
Sanjuro turned his head to catch Yoichi’s eye, lifted an expectant eyebrow, and followed his friend away from the party to the front gates.
Well!
Yoichi muttered something like, “Excuse me, I have to be a good host,” and gladly withdrew from the latest group chatting around the subject of a pyramid scheme. Fading into the background was easier said than done, though. It wasn’t enough to hide in the shadows. Not with a crowd so accustomed to keeping watch in the dark.
So he pulled a trick from Hisashi’s playbook and wandered, weaving his way forward on a less-than straightforward path. Yoichi pretended to be the ignorant younger brother to the point that one asshole had dismissed him, saying, “Run along, boy, the adults are talking.”
He was definitely remembering that guy’s face. But Yoichi took the excuse, huffing exaggeratedly at the slight, and stalked outside the courtyard.
“Happy birthday,” called Sanjuro, smirking at the abrupt beeline Yoichi made for his direction. “Your brother kicked us out of the party before we could deliver the goods.”
“The ‘goods’?”
“Your present,” he clarified. “Mine’s a little less tangible, but Kenji’s got yours all prepped for the taking.”
“No one appreciates euphemisms,” said Yoichi pointedly. He came to a stop in front of Sanjuro and, sighing, bumped the offered fist with one of his own. “Where is he, anyway?”
“Little further down. There’s an alcove out of sight from the cameras. I’ll signal if it turns out your brother has a sixth sense for your location.”
“Count on it,” he said, and wiggled his fingers in a goodbye before skipping down the pavement to find Kenji. It was probably the first time Yoichi appreciated the architect who designed the walls; there were alcoves carved into the sandstone, deep enough to provide refuge for anyone caught in a downpour, or two lovers trying to have a private moment.
Kenji was leaning against the wall, hands tucked in his pockets. The light fixtures studding the space in-between the alcoves cast a yellow light on him; Yoichi grinned when they caught sight of each other, and saw his smile mirrored.
“Kenji-san,” Yoichi greeted, side-stepping into the alcove and leaning against the opposite wall. He held his hands behind his back, fingers curled around a wrist. “I didn’t know you were coming.”
“Surprise,” said Kenji. “We knew it’d be testing your older brother’s patience if we showed up last minute, but we also thought it’d be better to ask forgiveness than permission.”
“Nii-san definitely threw you out.”
“Yeah. Would you, uh, would you believe that this is all according to plan?”
Yoichi’s grin widened. “I would. You two didn’t seem like your tails were tucked between your legs, and Sanjuro already gave me a hint about my birthday present.”
“Ah, he’s spoiled it. The magic’s ruined. Wait for next year, I’ll give it to you then.”
“Hey!”
He pushed off the wall and went toe to toe with Kenji, hands flying up to both sides of Kenji’s head. The angle was too high for a good pin. Begrudgingly, Yoichi rested his wrists on his boyfriend’s shoulders instead and tipped his chin up.
“Hey,” Kenji echoed. His hands stayed politely on the outside of Yoichi’s blazer. “Happy birthday, Yoichi-san. How was your party?”
“Very boring.”
“A lot of people means a lot of presents.”
“More like tributes for nii-san,” Yoichi corrected. “Not to sound like a spoiled young master, Kenji-san, but…?”
“KENJI, THEY’RE ONTO US!” hollered Sanjuro.
“Goddamnit,” his lover muttered. Rubber-soled footsteps slapped against the pavement, louder with every second. It was too dark to see the color in Kenji’s eyes, but the intent focus and underlying frustration was clear enough.
Yoichi knew what the present was. Inexpensive, priceless--plentiful, unique--he tilted his head helpfully and whispered, “Kiss me.”
And Kenji obliged.
