concept: jake <> aradia?
ooh! ooooohh... oh that's a Thought right there hol on i'll grab me markers, this is a ship i have never thought about before but that won't stop me from breaking it down on live security feed
deadthingsduo... poking at corpses in forests together. aradia has a kind of openness that i think could encourage jake to be more honest with her, and they're both aaabsolutely feral. they're braiding dead rats into wreathes together. i like this! i think, for my personal taste, they'd be closer to just good friends than <>, but it's a sweet relationship !!
biggest fucking disclaimer my understanding of aradia is more limited than my understanding of jake. i gnaw on her considerably less even if i do chew her bones out so if anyone more versed in her disagrees please feel free to toss a pie in my face
in order for them to work imo, they'd have to spend a lot of time apart. jake needs personal space but has them people pleasin disease, so he wants to live up to the expectation of interaction but will fucking run if it's beyond a certain amount. aradia needs friends amidst the vastness of paradox space, but very few are able/willing to keep up, and jake certainly would not want to leave his secure place in the timeline.
aradia has an endless enthusiastic curiosity for events and people. she's always darting around the timeline, wanting to Experience everything! and if not that, she's flitting amongst different parts of her friend group. jake, well, doesn't like that. he doesn't like adventure, he wants to live a fantasy more than he wants to face actual danger.
if aradia offered to bring him along, i think he'd agree only because of people pleasing tendencies. and aradia is smart enough to note his unsureness. as much as she cares, i don't think she'd want to constantly think about how jake is doing, that amount of concern kind of takes the fun out of the journey y'know? and she definitely doesn't want to stay tied down forever. she wants to find out everything, she's so damn curious she's alive and she wants to live dammit!! that's an inherent disjoint that i think would harm them if they tried to connect their lives too much ):
at the same time, they're both so incredibly abnormal it's difficult for them to click with people, so the fact that they both would find a kinship in their shared enjoyment of corpse parties? bam. friendship. they wouldn't be extremely close, but they'd enjoy spending time together, albeit with longer gaps between. having security in the other always being there for them, to be able to just fuck around from time to time? emotional closeness in the candid kinship? that's what makes them work for me :D

Least Fave kid has got to be dave strider if i had the opportunity to meet him it would be at some club and we would stand around and he'd start going off and i'd think to myself "what the fuck is wrong with him". My BROTP has got to be.. davejade or johnkat? To be honest I don't think of many ships other than dirkjake. Here.. *slides you this*. They just have a nice thing going with them. Fave antag is DEFINITELY aranea she had some shit going down with her so fucking cool. I need to draw her at some point. So, the kids and trolls win the game, enter universe C, and find themselves back on their respective planets, with their respective guardians/lusii all alive again(with the human guardians being siblings. Which means jane’s dad and John’s dad were cousins, because nanna and poppop were siblings, so it would be weird if their son(s) was/were the same person. Fuck. I wanted them to be the same person.) and they all remember both lives(the players have the memories of their new lives too). Also they’re all gods now, even the ones who didn’t reach godtier in the game. And the ones who went insane and/or evil (if you even want to keep them going evil and not just change it so they didn’t go evil) have turned good again and had redemption arcs and whatnot (whether they went evil in the first place because of mind control/brainwashing/mind manipulation or not), and Gamzee is back to being moirails with Karkat (if they ever stopped in the first place)(cause dammit I really like gamzee and i love gam<>(and/or)<3kat. Also, creepy-but-good gamzee is just as cute as original-nice-kind gamzee, so you can have him be either one).
Anyways. They still have the ability to communicate with each other over the internet or whatever even though they’re, like, galaxies away from each other or something. Probably a reward from the game. And they still have their sylladice even though they don’t exist in the new universe. And they have the ability to shift between troll and human forms. They also have the ability to switch between the two planets. Probably via transportalizers, which they have the ability to create.
So. With all these abilities, and the Alternian empire still being fucking awful (though maybe not quite as awful as before? idk.), they decide to create a rebellion/revolution. Jade finds a space relatively near earth to place the planets she still has(maybe freaking out astronomers in the process, what with new planets suddenly appearing out of nowhere), and they become a safe haven for trolls that they rescue that would otherwise have been culled for some reason or another (of course, they’re only allowed on them after a thorough mind/soul search using godly and/or troll powers to determine that they’re not going to hurt the consorts, as well as informing them of the rules and laws that they have (they probably went through all the earth and Alternian laws they could find in order to figure out which laws they wanted)).
Also, if davekat (which is tied with gamkat as my favorite pairing, with johnkat coming second), you could maybe make it a three-way matespritship-Moiraillegiance-human boyfriends thing between Dave Karkat and gamzee (davegamkat?), because Dave and gamzee totally would have got on like a house on fire if Dave hadn’t accidentally ruined everything by (accidentally?) mocking gamzee’s religion when gamzee was in a delicate place, and I really want to see them learn to like each other. You don’t have to, of course, but it’s rare I find Dave and gamzee learning to get along post-sburb, especially as oftentimes gamzee tends to stay evil, or just doesn’t get the chance to enter into the new universe.

How would you rewrite the comic so that Cascade was the end, or close to it?
The idea that ending at A5A2 would have been better is a take you can still find in some corners of the Fandom; I'm wondering if you can think of a way for the story to wrap up around there. Imagine A5A1 is A5, A5A2 is A6, and either your reworked Cascade or whatever you put after it is A7.
The rules:
The Scratch, Alpha Kids, and Cherubs must be removed. Jake's EOA4 note is implicitly understood to be cut.
Doc Scratch must either serve himself or Bec Noir.
The Green Sun must be either removed or destroyed, not simply created with no end.
One Beta Kid can die, max.
You can remove any characters besides Jack Noir and the 16 Kids.
The new Universe must be created by the end.
At least one queer romantic pairing must get together; JohnKat, RoseMary, JohnDave, NepRezi, JadeKan, *something*.
My vague outline of an idea involves Scratch wanting to die, something that can only happen when everything in Paradox Space is destroyed and Vriska creating the Black Hole like in those BKEW theories.

Same JohnDave anon. In fact I feel like I’ll sign my asks with 🌸.
Anyway, it’s funny to me that despite the pairing being so popular when Homestuck was ongoing (yes, I’m that old), it had a falling out of popularity so drastic it’s considered a rare pair now. I don’t know if you remember the fact that Johnkat was the first slash ship to be popular, to a point that it was the collective fandom’s slash OTP before JD took over and then somehow DK with the whole meteor thing. It came out of left field, considering the fandom dwindled over the gigapause. Why is that that people ignore John so harshly? Shipping wise or not, he’s the protagonist and yet Dave and virtually everyone from the beta kids get more attention. Was it because of the yellow ship shenanigans and the fact that there were only three people there? His retcon powers? Projection from fans towards uwu dave cool guy (which is hilarious, they’re all nerds and to me Dave is arguably just behind John on dweebiness)?
Dave and Karkat being the fandom’s sweethearts is a poison IMO. Curious to hear your thoughts as to why John, despite being the protagonist, gets swept under the rock so badly, ignoring the fiasco from the epilogues and HS2 because there is no way in hell I am touching that. You’re a great blog and I enjoy reading your ‘spicy’ takes.

P.S: Fuck the nu-fandom.
If you don't count the bullshit from Epilogues and Homestuck^2, nu-fandom will claim that John is the most "boring" protag, even if he was the first guy we were introduced to the whole series. Some may think of him as a sort of blank slate for the audience. Which makes me think of years back, the old fandom (fangirls especially) had thought of themselves to be like Jade or Nepeta to be with Dave or Karkat. But now, it's bad to fans to say those girls would represent them and they are better off self inserting as KARKAT.
Some think of his moments in Act 6 make him an asshole, in contrast to how kind and goofy he was in the early acts. Not taking to account the whole being separated from his friends still and growing up like any other. They applied the same with Jade too, calling her a bitch right after her knowledge from Prospit was separated. Nu-fandom also dislikes John for being "straight". They will never live it down on John saying "i am not a homosexual". Modern fanbase take it too seriously that they can't ship him with Karkat, Dave, or any guys anymore. Despite how much fanon they are still able to apply with other characters.

3 Ships: JD/Veronica, Beatrice/Wirt, Conan/Ai
Right now i've gotten sort of back into Heathers, been wanting to watch the movie again but college is a bit more important to me right now lol.
Been reading jd/veronica fics recently though. Love me a "I can fix him", "i cant be fixed" dynamic.
And with beatrice/wirt I did like them when OTGW aired, but only recently have I really enjoyed them.
And Conan/Ai of Detective Conan, two highschoolers having to survive as kids. I love their banter and extended knowledge of everything.
First ship ever: ermm first thing that comes to mind is JohnKat from Homestuck.
Last Song: Had to look at my listening history and its video game soundtracks,,, so the last actual song is Here With Me by d4vd.
Last Movie: Watched The Adam Project with family a couple nights ago. Its a fun little time travel adventure.
Currently Reading: My financial accounting textbook. …as well as two fics right now. Always Room for the Living by Iced_Coffee_Please, and in the middle of If You're Lonely Press Play universe by @pixiestickers (who tagged me woo yeah!)
(I dont usually read books anymore. Last book i checked out from a library was more than a year ago…)
Currently Watching: wow like nothing. Last I watched was OTGW a few weeks ago. Oh yeah I'm watching The Office as well, but that's on hold for right now.

well i… finished act 5 act 2. gonna have to rewatch cascade a bunch of times and probably read the act summary on the wiki but i have officially reached the end of the act
still enjoying it a lot but it’s getting harder and harder to read. summing up a rant i gave my friend, i’m not super in love with the sense of predestined futility - or more accurately, i don’t feel that the narrative has properly addressed that yet and justified why i should be reading about these characters who were like 100x doomed from the start.
there are so many characters and so much happening that nothing is lingered upon, which is nice pacing-wise but not so nice emotional-impact-wise. i also think the “everybody dies a bajillion times and it’s fine until all of a sudden it’s not” thing works against it in a sense, especially when the narrative doesn’t stop to mourn anyone who’s actually dead, bc by the time you realize hey wait maybe like. vriska or dad or feferi/nepeta/equius etc are dead for real it’s been like 200+ pages and you’re like well ok. what do i do here exactly.
and i know that that’s an intentional choice hussie made for how he wanted to craft his narrative - im wishing for things that he deliberately chose not to give. im not trying to say that these choices are flaws in his writing, just that as an audience member i tend to prefer the tlt method of dealing with death, where one main character dies and then the entire next book is about another ripping herself apart because of it.
im not giving up by any means, or even saying that this is what’s dominating my reading experience. like i said im still enjoying myself and appreciate most of the creative decisions that hussie is making. it can just feel very draining i suppose, watching these characters i’ve come to care about - almost all of whom are literal children - fighting so hard so futilely, and so far, imo the narrative hasn’t paid that off. however, with that out of the way, here are (some of, bc this shit was long as hell) my thoughts on the act, more or less in order:
i have literally no interest in johnkat. probably partially bc my friend is so into davekat that ive been conditioned to just wait for that to happen but also bc they have no chemistry. sorry to any johnkat shippers out there but idc it’s boring
i have slightly more but still negligible interest in john/vriska. probably bc i… don’t really care about john. sorry to any john stans out there but idc he’s boring
