boxing day sales? boxing day sales.
(boxing day, 26th december. for some ungodly reason it’s a crazy day for retail — my comparison for the USA/North American folks would be similar to Black Friday)
fun fact: B&Q never used to close for Boxing Day, that’s changed in recent years but I have worked boxing day before and it is hell on earth.
the boys working boxing day below:
simon hates it. refuses to leave the safety of the warehouse. won’t even leave through the doors to cut across the shop floor for a cigarette. man has nicotine patches up and down his arms. has shouted at four customers today for trying to get him to bring out stock they want. changed the sign hanging on the warehouse doors to “IF YOU’RE NOT JOHN PRICE YOU CAN FUCK OFF”. will be getting disciplined for his attitude as soon as the store manager can find him (it’s been 6 hours and simon is still successfully evading the man).
gaz is amazing. he’s sold 3 complete kitchens, 4 bathrooms and 1 bedroom already today. continues to charm the arse off of every client that he sees and poaches clients that are waiting for other members of the design team. the only sign that he’s getting fatigued is the constant mug of coffee by his computer and slight tightness around his eyes.
soap also hates it. far less successful with avoiding being disciplined and has been pulled up for groaning in the face of a particularly prickly customer. he doesn’t care. he hasn’t left the paint desk in three hours and he wants to go off for a walk. he’s frustrated that he can’t go off on his little jollies around the shop to bother his favourite people because everyone is too busy. will absolutely sulk in the staff room when he can.
price has a vein throbbing in his forehead. he’s spent the majority of his shift at the customer service desk backing up the team members that are being berated by arseholes wanting a refund on christmas decorations that have clearly been used. “listen, store policy is that used electricals get written off and the customer gets a credit note for the value of them. if they have a problem, i’ll deal with it.” jesus christ let this man outside for a cigarette before he strangles the next miserable twat with the fairy lights they’ve brought back.

Thinking abt Scara calling Arlecchino "a wolf in sheep's clothing" and then about how she actually presents herself to her children vs other people, mainly the harbingers, or at least how they perceive her.
Because Arle definitely loves her kids right, she loves them as much as she knows and is allowed to, what with the whole growing up in a hunger games child soldier death cult with human experimentation on the side and the curse that is triggered by strong emotions while ALSO having a whole ass organization under the watch of a God to run.
And while she's both intimidating to her kids and appears cold and distant, like a proper stoic father figure "that's not there to be your friend but discipline and teach you", she doesn't pretend to be a loving and doting "mother" while raising child soldiers and have them kill each other off. Instead, she gives it to them straight and prepares them for what that entails, no sugarcoating and no lies about what is going on, while genuinely trying to let them have good lives with the little freedom they're allowed as a part of the Fatui.
"Those that parade their virtues often do the most evil. We're not like them." She doesn't pretend to be something she isn't and I thinks that is in fact, very far from being "a wolf in sheep's clothing."
She's just a wolf, there's no mask and no lie in her attitude. All of that is crafted by others because of unanswered misconceptions based on lack of information she happily leaves out, because what is scarier than human imagination?
She doesn't show her "true insane self" because the situation rarely calls for when she can just silently intimidate or talk her way out of most things anyway.

Not to romanticise dream again but it really is so nice how we keep getting to see a little more of him since the face reveal like we knew he got bored and stir crazy when sapnap was gone or when everyone was busy because he'd tweet dumb things or do a drodcast or something but now we get That but also him messing around with dumb snapchat filters and silly selfies of his face and just tiny snapshots of his life and its just very cute and I love him

So will we be getting the moon, that starts out as partially covered by clouds, that can represent doubt and uncertainty, and maybe even sadness. They can also mean we don't see him fully, there are parts of him that are still covered up, not shown to us.
And then we have the rainbow coming out.

What do you need to create a rainbow?
You need the sun. Because without the sun there is no rainbow...

Oh no, I forgot I changed JM's birthday to February 13th, and I only remembered it a few minutes after midnight. 😅 Whoops, sorry JM. Happy belated birthday!

BROOO the URGE to write a little fic about lyla and miguel cuddling and overall lyla forcing miguel to relax for a bit. And he has little motivation to escape, melting into her touch.
And grrr the idea of her tickling him gently, teasing him and poking fun at how easily he could stop her, yet all miguel brings himself to do is gently gnaw and nip at her neck, which only eggs her on further, slipping her chilled metal fingers under his shirt
He would make a fuss, growling out small curses and telling lyla to knock it off but never once does he shy away from her fingers.

what would heal me personally is coming home flopping on the couch immediately for f/o to come over to greet me and notice that i’ve falllen asleep accidentally with how tired i am and change me into a nice comfy shirt, draping a blanket over me and moving the hair out of my face so it won’t bother me (but also to give a small kiss on the forehead too) and maybe settling beside my lying body, maybe placing my head on their lap on the couch to read a book and wait for me to wakee up nd talk about my day… personally i would do the same for them as well. goodnight

i’m so deeply sad at the moment that i’m surrounding myself in fluffy fluffy fics and just hoping for a soft landing for myself but when i try to write it’s just either a) minimal effort or b) so fucking sad
like i’m trying to write a retail hell au with the tf141 boys but yeah. anyway have some notes under the cut about where i’ve stuck the boys so far.
so imagine with me that for whatever reason tf141 end up working in B&Q (home depot for those of you over the pond)
gaz works in the kitchens, bathrooms and bedroom department as a designer/consultant. why? because he’s pretty and can charm anyone into an upsell. oh you came in to get a quote on cheap sanitary ware (toilet, sink, bathtub/shower)? suddenly the customer (“client, they’re always clients. sounds better y’know?”) walking out with a £2000 order containing new tiles, a waterfall shower head, walk in shower array, £120 basin taps, a new towel warmer and a beautiful mirrored cabinet. you love watching him work because he’s just so charming and personable. always shoots you a wink from behind the computer too.
simon works stockflow. he’s in the warehouse or yard exclusively. smashes through deliveries and stock at a rapid pace and then stands in the yard smoking. no he doesn’t need any help, fuck off. leave it alone you’re going to fuck up his system. incredibly territorial over the yard/warehouse and only lets john, soap, gaz in. has a hand written sign pinned by the doors “NO ENTRY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. ESPECIALLY FOR YOU.” the store a manager takes it down periodically. simon puts it back up. nods at you when you pass the entrance to the warehouse but doesn’t speak. coincidentally he seems to be by the entrance shuffling delivery notes or paperwork whenever you walk past.
soap technically works the interior decorating department. technically. he loves working on the paint mixing desk and flirting with all the women that come up looking for just the right shade of whatever trendy colour has been advertised in home and gardens this season but will absolutely wander off to go bother price/gaz/simon/you whenever he feels like it. constantly being called for on the tannoy system “this is a staff announcement could john mactavish please return to the paint desk, customers waiting. that’s john mactavish to the paint desk. thank you”. you’re positive he ignores the first tannoy call just so he can hear you get more exasperated on the second and third call you put out for him.
price is the hardware, electrical and plumbing supervisor and technically the stockflow supervisor. barely ever steps foot in the warehouse aside from a quick check in because he knows simon has it covered. hates management meetings and always finds himself something time critical/difficult to put down when he knows there’s one coming up. a constant presence on the shop floor. always the first supervisor to respond to the tannoy when a customer is kicking up a fuss at the customer service desk. always seems to know where you are, whether that’s on the customer service desk, serving customers on the checkouts or putting away go backs in various aisles. checks in frequently with a little smile and a “alright love?” before moving on to whatever task he can do to keep him out of the store manager’s sights. reminds everyone to take their breaks regardless of whether or not they’re technically part of his department.

I like to hc that he has trichotillomania, the smallest amount of stress or anxiety- even if he isn't openly affected by it- makes him pull at the soft hairs from his face to hairline.. it took a while for the others to understand, and the main way to stop him from pulling is by distracting his hand (why yes by holding them 24/7)
He won't realise he's doing it until he's got a pile of hair in his lap, and once he's conscious of it he can't control the urges to stopq
oh you’re so right
swiss just thought they had a shedding problem, makes sense for summer after all. everywhere he went he’d find strands of black and white hair, too dark to be aethers, too short to be cirrus’, too straight to be cumulus
until they’re at practice one day. copia and dew have been arguing over something ridiculous for an hour now and it’s holding all of them up, ant took a seat on swiss’ stage while he fiddled around with his guitar
he looks up and sees what looks like ant just scratching at the back of their neck, but behind them sits a pile of that familiar black hair
without even seeing their face swiss can tell somethings up, their shoulders sit by their ears, knees tucked to their chest. the hand on their neck seems frantic, swiss can’t see it’s exact movement behind their hair, sitting just past their shoulders and swiss can’t tell how much hair has been pulled out
he squats down quietly behind ant, taking the hand on their neck in his
“you alright?” he asks softly, “need some air?”
ant looks up at swiss, already big eyes slowly welling with tears as they nod silently
swiss places a gentle kiss on their hairline before standing up and clapping loudly
“ight i say all of us take 5 until you two can figure your shit out, sound good? great”
swiss is guiding ant off the stage and out of the room before copia is even able to register that he had said anything
by the time they’re outside ants hand is on their neck again, swiss slowly and gently removes it and cups their hands in his
“you good to talk?”
they shake their head softly, avoiding his eye
“that’s alright, bug.” he removes one of his hands and reaches towards the back of their neck, “can i?”
ant turns their head, revealing the purple bald patch
“oh baby,” swiss coos, rubbing a thumb over the patch, mustering up as much quintessence as he can to soothe the pain
ants shoulders relax as their skin returns to its usual inky black
“it got pretty tense in there didn’t it?” the question is rhetorical but ant nods anyway, “but it wasn’t your fault, dew and copia are just picky. you did so well in there, you hit everything perfectly, you should be really proud of yourself.”
a blush creeps onto their cheeks at swiss’ praise. his hand moves to cup the back of their neck softly and he gives them a quick peck
“i’m always here for you, you know? no matter what. i’m here and i’ll always try to help”
ant finally meets his eye, a grin creeping onto their face
“love you” they squeak”
“love you more, bug”

Won Top 4 at locals for the Age of Overlord Sneak Peek (this made me so happy I have to share it everywhere.)
Also, another person really liked the anime (specifically 5Ds) so now we're writing with one another and I don't think I've done anything harder than trying to act normal and allistic about Yugioh. Someone at Locals also said they liked how 'excited' I was about it, and I know it probably wasn't even meant in a mean way but I still felt a bit bad cause I don't even know how to be normal!!!!!

Things that I am tired of seeing in the Peter Pan fandom:
Dark, edgy retellings with Peter as the villain. Been there, done that. It’s not new anymore. Be more creative.
Hook being turned into some goth Jack Sparrow wannabe. OUAT isn’t the only version that has done this, but it’s definitely the most popular. To be entirely fair, I enjoy OUAT…but Killian is NOT James Hook anymore than Rumple is Prince Adam. Also, just…Hook can be attractive while still actually looking like Hook. Case in point: Jason Isaacs in the 2003 film.
Sexually explicit retellings and drawings. I know everyone’s entitled to make their own fics and drawings, but please at least tag your stuff that’s explicit and stop making me need eyeball bleach. It’s a children’s story, and my mind would like to maintain the innocence. Barrie would be rolling in his grave if he saw some of the stuff out there.
Turning Hook into a pedophile. This goes along with the above but is even worse because YIKES. Hook is a lot of things, but a pedo he is not. There is literally no hint in the book or play that he feels that way about ANYONE, much less a kid, and it’s super gross. Just…no. There’s a quote from Disney’s Straight on Til Morning (Twisted Tale series) from one of the pirates talking to Wendy about Hook that I think about sums it up: “He might slit your throat, but the rest of you is safe.”
And finally…Hook is a former Lost Boy trope. This one isn’t terrible. I don’t mind it all that much. It’s just been done so many times, and it isn’t really consistent with the book. Hook canonically attended Eton, and he couldn’t have realistically done so unless he either went to Neverland BEFORE he went to Eton or left Eton after having been there only very briefly. But most of the “Hook was a Lost Boy” retellings don’t allow any room for Eton at all and I feel like it’s a pretty essential part of who he is. It’s why he’s so hung up on “good form.” Expressing his loyalty to Eton is literally the last thing Barrie’s Hook says before he dies. (“Floreat Etona” - “May Eton flourish.”) You can’t take that part of his history away from him and have the same character.
Okay, rant over. I just needed to get that out.
