I know it's not BLACKblack once cooked, but if you really need to have some dark colored foods during the spooky season, consider black rice. It has a lovely dark purplish color when cooked and can be used in any dish you would use rice for. Black rice ramen also exists. For that matter so does black bean pasta, which turns out more of a dark grayish color when cooked (hey, a source of protein!)

man, it's been so fun having kise staying with him! it's been awesome to meet up with his old friends and introduce them to him, too, because here's this guy who is prodigally famous for his basketball talent. look who i found! he doesn't remember the weeks before moving to japan very well, but he'd been miserable and he'd even quit basketball for a little while. obviously it doesn't last, and boy, is he glad for that. but it's extra nice that the people who saw him so sad, get to see how well things are going now for kagami to not only be playing basketball still, but to have improved like he has, and to have found his rivals.

call him sentimental, but it's just nice. and it's been great to hang out with kise so much outside of basketball, too. he's a cool guy, however annoying he can be! don't tell anyone this, but the moments where kagami is bothered by kise's teasing are slowly becoming less frequent. he must have been building up an immunity to it or something, because he's actually started liking it? even when it's a little embarrassing? there's just something about having kise's attention that kagami can't get enough of. he hasn't got so far as to realise anything, or even, really, that he likes to be near him at all, but it's all subconscious.

and so, when kise announces that he's going to the store, kagami raises from his seat at the breakfast bar as if to follow along. of course he's going with him, why wouldn't he? then kise asks if he wants anything?!? kagami snorts.

"i'm coming too," he says like it's obvious, scooping up the basketball he keeps by the door. he delivers a cheeky grin. "stop off by the courts on the way back?" PLEASE? it isn't said, but kise would be able to see it in his eyes.

it’s very easy to tell the good satires and pastiches from the bad ones because the bad ones are too afraid to live within the form. like if you are doing work with fairy tales and you are refusing to look closer at the underlying logic and unspoken rules of what can seem at first to be a senseless form, you are not going to create meaningful work. to borrow a turn of phrase originally used by maria tatar, if you refuse to enter “the house of fairy tale” as anything more than a gawking tourist, you will miss the particular order to the way the table is set, the rooms that are locked vs the rooms that are simply difficult to enter, the set of the floorboards and the position of the furniture. whatever you build will then be a gilded imitation of how you believe the house of fairy tale ought to look, the table set according to your educated specifications and every door open. there can be no interrogation of themes from a writer who views the form as beneath them!
