Y/n POV

"Damn, Chaewon is breathing quite heavily there," I said as I look from afar as Chaewon and the host of the show 'Fearless Kkura' Sakura filming along with the animals we don't see every day.

"I kinda feel like she is not breathing anymore," Noona said as I look at Chaewon who froze as the man who takes care of the reptiles put the snake on her arm.

I snickered at Noona just being the savage manager she is. Chaewon's manager has just nothing on her list to be scared of, but the girl she is managing has a lot on her list.

"Say, today's episode is about reptiles right?" I asked and Noona hummed in response.

"Yes, why? Want to get scales and poison?" Noona asked.

"Sheesh, calm your nerves down noona. I think I know why Chaewon is getting bratty these days," I said and noona just looked at me with a death glare.

"Shut up kid. See that snake? I think it needs a year's worth of food," I can feel the venom in noona's words as she gives me shivers.

"Damn, I'm sorry ok?" I just stopped as my thinking said that noona is not in a great mood today.

"Good to see that you know that I woke up on the wrong side of the bed kid," Noona said and crossed her arms.

I just chuckled and thanked my thoughts for preventing a disaster with Chaewon's manager.

"20 Minutes break everyone!" The producer of the show shouted granting a smile from the two members of Le Sserafim.

The two girls skips their way in my direction and Sakura went to her manager while Chaewon

"Y/nnie!"

Went to me, crushing me in her big hug.

"Chaechae, how is the filming so far?" I asked as I wrapped my arms around her small frame.

"It was scary! It was my first time seeing those types of animals," Chaewon said in a shaky voice.

"Don't worry Chae, at least you faced your fears right?" I said to brighten her mood.

"I mean yeah? I did face my fears," Chaewon muttered in realization.

"Well, you are already fearless. I mean you are already Fearless since you sang your debut song," I joked which made Chaewon punch my side softly.

"Aish, are you old? Stop making jokes like that ahjussi," Chaewon said and parted herself from me. I then see her smirking as I rolled my eyes.

"Shut it radish! Don't call me an-," I was about to answer Chaewon when my phone rang.

I excused myself and I accepted the call. The person who was calling me was Eunchae, Le Sserafim's youngest member.

"Oppa! Music Bank duties!"

"Is it time already?"

"Yup! Stop being lovey-dovey with Chaewon unnie! Look at me, a child who is working hard but being neglected by her manager. Huhuhu~,"

"Aigoo, look at you being overdramatic again,"

I put my phone in my pocket and suddenly, an arm wraps around me. Looking at the person, a radish girl buries her head into my arm.

"Sup Chae," I said and stroked her hair.

"Who called?" Chaewon asked.

"Our maknae calling me to fetch her and bring her to her job," I said and Chaewon looked at me with her fluffy cheeks.

"Oh right, Music Bank," Chaewon said as I nod.

"Yep, got that one right. Anyways, see you later love," I said and pecked Chaewon's lips.

"Are you going to the dorms later?" Chaewon asked me.

"Yep, I think I will also bring y'all dinner," I said and grabbed my coat.

"Ok then, bye Y/nnie~," Chaewon said and waved.

"Love you too cheese ball," I said and left the building to get back to my managerial duties.

The filming of Music Bank is now over and as always, Eunchae is looking cute as ever. As I am outside of Eunchae's room, a girl ran into me and greeted me.

"Hey hey hey," Bae from Nmixx greeted me.

"Would you look at that, it's the Bae Jinsol~," I said as Bae just giggled at me.

"How are you cousin?" I asked and Bae just shrugged.

"Nothing new, going in promotions," Bae answered.

"Love me like this huh?" I said.

"Yup! Say, you want to dance?" Bae suddenly said which made me flinch.

"Oh hell nah! The song of y'all is good, no question about that, but me? Dancing? No thank you," I said which made Bae giggle.

"Yeah laugh all you want, anyways, where are your members?" I asked and Bae just shrugged again.

"In our room," Bae said.

"And you're here because?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Because you said you are managing Eunchae and she is the host of this show. Figures that you are here so here we are!" Bae said to which I nodded.

"Well okay," I just answered.

"Now that's that, you want some tea?" Bae asked.

"Shoot. I want some topics," I said.

"Did you know that our Sullyoon has a crush on you?" Bae said which made me choke on my saliva.

"*cough* Yah! How is that a tea?" I asked.

"Dunno, just want to say that to you," Bae said which made me sigh.

"Yah, you know that I'm dating Chaewon right? Tell her that friends would be okay. I have the love of my life," I said to Bae.

"Gosh, you are such a wimp for love cousin, anyways message relayed! I will go now!" Bae said.

"Alright! Come here," I said and Bae and I hugged shortly.

"Good luck with your group okay?" I said.

"Yep! Bye Y/n-ah!" Bae said as she walks away.

I just looked at her and suddenly, the door to Eunchae's room unlocked and a potato girl pops her head out.

"Who you talking to oppa?" Eunchae asked.

"Bae," I answered and Eunchae nodded.

"Your cousin right?" Eunchae asked and again, I nodded.

"Yup! Are you finished changing?" My turn to ask her and she nodded.

"It's all in the bag oppa!" Eunchae said with her hyper energy.

"Then cool. What do you want for dinner?"

Y/n POV

Right now, the girls and I are huddled inside their dorm, around the variety of food that I bought them. The girls are casually munching while I'm looking at my laptop to arrange paperwork.

Just as I thought that the girls will mind their own business eating, a certain radish was looking at me while chewing kimchi inside her mouth.

Looking at my laptop, I felt a tap making me look at the one who grabbed my attention and suddenly, an egg roll is on par with my mouth.

"What is it, Chae?" I asked and Chaewon just moved the chopsticks in front of my face.

"Eat," Chaewon said.

I opened my mouth and let the savory taste of the egg cover my taste buds. I hummed and looked at Chaewon whose smile is getting bigger as seconds pass by.

"Is it delicious?" Chaewon asked as she begins to poke my inflated cheeks.

I nodded and Chaewon giggled and continued to eat with occasionally feeding me.

I just let her be as I know that Chaewon was just looking for me, one thing about Chaewon is, she is thoughtful of the people she loves.

Also, fighting Chaewon is a big no-no. She can be lovely and cute with her smile, but it's the opposite when she is angry.

The girls finished their food and now, they are just talking about random things, until Eunchae tells something for the group.

"Chaewon unnie," Eunchae called her unnie as Chaewon looked at the younger girl happily.

"Yes, Manchae? What is it?" Chaewon answered.

"Did you know that Sullyoon unnie has a crush on Y/n?" Eunchae said which made me widen my eyes at the cheeky maknae.

"Sullyoon? Where did you get that?" Chaewon asked.

"I heard Y/n oppa and Bae unnie talking," Eunchae grinned at me.

"Don't be nosy maknae," Chaewon said to Eunchae before looking at me.

"And you mister! Don't dare to love another girl besides me. Got it?" Chaewon said as I put my laptop aside and scooted closer to the girl.

"Got it, Chae got it," I giggled as Chaewon leans her head on my shoulder.

"So that's how Chaewon unnie gets jealous," Kazuha suddenly said

"You have only seen it once Zuha, wait for more," Kkura noona warned the younger girl which made me laugh.

"Are you all seriously going to talk about me? I'm here," Chaewon said.

"Nah~ we won't stop," Yunjin said in her mighty loud voice.

"Yah yah yah. I'm the leader and-,"

"You should listen to me blah blah," Kkura noona cuts Chaewon which made me giggle inside.

As I'm hugging Chaewon, I can feel her fists shaking up making me chuckle a little more.

"Don't be angry babe, I'm here," I whispered to Chaewon which seems to work as she begins to calm down.

I pecked Chaewon's fluffy cheeks as she snuggled at me.

"What do you think about Sullyoon then Y/n?" Yunjin asked.

"Sullyoon? Well, I think she's nice and friendly. That's about it," I said and Chaewon looked at me sternly this time.

"So is she cute?" Chaewon asked me.

"What?"

"Is. She. Cute?" Chaewon asked again.

"Yes?" I said nervously.

"Dumb ways to die~," Kkura noona sang as I glare at the older girl.

"So many dumb ways to die~," Yunjin followed while stifling her laugh.

I glared at them and then looked at my girlfriend who is already pouting at me.

"Hey hey, I was just telling about Sullyoon being cute alright? That doesn't mean that I like her the same way I love you," I said and Chaewon nodded and buried her head into my chest.

I caressed the back of Chaewon's head and the other girls in the room just silently laughed at me as I squinted my eyes at them.

"You will not leave me right?" Chaewon muttered in our hug.

"Of course baby. You are precious to me and you will be my forever," I said to Chaewon making the girl squeal.

The other girls begin to gawk at Chaewon and me, making my eyes roll at them but suddenly, Chaewon freed herself from my hug.

"I'm keeping this anger of mine but thanks to Y/n, I'm calm. Now let your leader-nim punish you all. Shall we start?" Chaewon sad and suddenly, the other members shuffled and left the room immediately.

I engulf Chaewon in a big hug again to restrain the angered radish girl, to calm her down, again.

But it seems like Chaewon has superhuman strength today as she pecked my lips and went to chase her members.

I just shook my head and stifled a laugh.

Sighing, I stand up and dusted my clothes and as soon as I opened the door, squealing and screaming greeted me as Chaewon hunts them like a prey.

Going to Chaewon, I dragged her to her room making the other Fimmies celebrate.

Making her seat on her bed, Chaewon pouted and again, her squishy cheeks is seen again.

Sitting beside her, Chaewon leaned her head to my shoulder, but I faced her and gives her kisses, making her giggle cutely.

"Calm down babe," I said and giggled and Chaewon just smiles widely and lay down on the softness of her bed.

I soon followed her actions and immediately, Chaewon latched at me making me hum as she snuggle.

Staying in our position, a few minutes later, a soft snore can be heard and I looked at my Chaewon knocked out in a wind. Giggling at Chaewon, I then caressed her cheeks and soon, following her to dreamland.

Nah but it's the way every time a story features or is about women or a woman's story, people always want to try to make it about men or say "what if there were men instead?"

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Six: the Musical both have parts of their fanbase(although thankfully in Six it's not the majority) saying that there should be a version with all men or going "what if this female main cast had a male main cast instead"? Even though the point of both is to provide representation for women, MLP is about how there's no wrong way to be a girl and changing the way girls'/girly shows are seen as shallow and less good, and giving girls multiple strong female characters to see themselves in instead of just one token/cookie cutter archetype, while Six is all about REAL-LIFE women whose lives were destroyed because of misogyny, it is all about girl power(same as mlp) and women getting to reclaim their stories from a patriarchal society that shortchanged and silenced their voices throughout history, but no let's make it about men lol.

The same is true for Sailor Moon, I have seen some people say that it's sexist or "misandrist"(as if that's even a thing lol) because it's all about women and the women are more powerful and how Tuxedo Mask "always needs to be saved" like goddamn let the girls be the heroes who save the world for once.

And for that matter PRECURE. Unpopular opinion that will surely get my head bitten off by fans but I don't think Precure NEEDS male Cures and it's not "erasing" feminine boys or saying boys can't be feminine or "reinforcing gender roles" to point that out. Precure is a franchise about female characters being the heroes and main characters who are powerful while also being feminine, it's supposed to place the women center stage and give them the spotlight when most media doesn't do that, trying to fit boys in it is just ruining that message imo. Tbh I would be happy if there were no male Cures at all, idgaf about your "but let boys be feminine" shit cuz I mean yeah but like go watch Cute High Earth Defense Club Love or something, that show seems more your speed(@ sexist Precure fans who say this, not you). I once got my comments removed TWICE for trying to point this out to someone, to the point where I just blocked them lol. One person even went so far as to make a petition for Toei Animation to make an all-male Precure season, again, just go watch Cute High, bc clearly that's what you're looking for.

I also saw some people complaining about Project MC^2 being "sexist" against boys and making them out to be stupid just because it's about girls being smart spies and good at math/art/science, one review even said "teach girls that boys matter too!" oh rly like they don't know already??? Like the world doesn't already tell them that each and every single day??????? The second girls get the spotlight everybody acts like boys are being attacked, but when boys get the spotlight it's all crickets and shit bc boys are supposed to take center stage like no one cares about girls getting attention. Your seven-year-old son isn't going to enter a self-hating misandrist crisis because one wee show said "women do run the world!" we still live in a patriarchy ffs.

Also in Cardcaptor Sakura the main character is a girl and the story has many female characters and is very empowering to women in general(while also having a great deal of powerful men and even a canon m/m couple), and yet I still saw this one annoying guy write an entire screed about how Sakura sucks as a character and should never have been Cardcaptor, the cherry on top was them saying that Syaoran should be the Master of the Clow Cards instead...because it's not enough that this show has multiple representations of positive men/masculinity in addition to women/femininity, it's still not good enough if it's a girl power fantasy, it MUST make a boy the hero!

I also saw someone say that Touhou, which has an all-female cast, needs more men. Wonder if they'd say the reverse if it had an all-male cast(correct answer: they wouldn't).

And then there's the Encanto fandom's entire can of worms where they went through that phase of wanting the female-dominated cast to be all about Camilo and Bruno, sidelining the women in the process. Like bruh. 😕

I really do wish that people would stop this shit, female-centric media is really never allowed to exist without people wanting men to be prioritized in it and take away from the female representation even though men have enough representation already lol, people can't handle when not everything is about men. It's why I will never listen to or take anyone seriously when they complain about shows like these being "sexist against men" and say that anything I write is too female-centric. Like. GOOD. The world needs more female-centric casts to shake up the status quo! You guys love complaining about shows being gendered and wanting gender equality in fiction only towards female-centric works, because you don't want to see women playing central roles without men also being there. Sucks to be on the other side of the playing field now, huh?

Anyway, I was inspired to write this to you rather than make it an original post because of your comment about people wanting Jennifer's Body to be about men(with Miguel as Jennifer) and yeah that is so disgusting and irritating. 🤢 I didn't even know that was happening but I'm not surprised because nobody ever lets shows about girls just center girls first and foremost. It truly is everywhere and I'm sick of it. Not everything needs to be about men, just let the women have something. Please.

When I read the first few chapters of Naruto, it occurred to me. If Sakura is a not female character of Naruto, would she successfully land Sasuke in that manga?

Well, it depends on the person she pursues.

There is one successful shoujo manga called Mirmo de Pon!, giving some vibes of the whole dynamic.

As you can see, it’s an anime about the bond building of human and muglox (like fairies with no winds). The love story of Kaede Minami and Setsu Yuuki is the start of everything.

The anime takes four seasons for Setsu Yuuki to fall in love with Kaede. Of course, most of the stories are about Kaede and her fairy, Mirmo, bonding and saving the world. Yeah, that’s shoujo manga. The canon Manga is not that ambitious but I like anime better. Manga is too shoujo.

The Anime tries to make the love between them realistic. Setsu wants to be a novelist and he reads everyday to broaden his views. He also studies well and is good at sports.(Sound like someone we know in Naruto, right?)

Kaede is not smart. She is not good at schools and she is shy, liking Setsu for a year without saying a word to him. Although she is nice to his classmates, that’s it. No other good qualities could be found.

In the first episode, her rival, Azumi Hidaka, is beautiful, bold and brave. She likes Setsu in the first sight and starts to pursue him boldly.

Kaede feels small but then Mirumo comes to her world. The fairy inspires her to stop being lazy and fantasizing her loved one. She needs to do things on her own or it’s meaningless.

Then, she starts to change. She starts to make moves, understand Setsu’s dream and support him in her ways, which include her trying to read the books he likes. During the process, she does anger him for some times, but as a future novelist, this boy has seen her true nature and starts to fall for her.

In the final season, Kaede experiences heartbreak from loving Setsu, but she realizes that she just wants him to be happy. If he is happy, then everything is fine. Heartbreak is a part of loving him and she doesn’t want to let the memories with him to go.

That’s how you writes Shoujo anime. (Hn…)

I love this series very much. It makes it realistic. If women don’t have big dreams and just want to be with her men, that’s okay. They could support them to pursue their dreams with full hearts and try to understand them in their ways. They could care for them whenever they need love and passions.

For Sakura, I think she is more like Azumi Hidaka. She just likes Setsu for some qualities he has and igores bad sides. If she can have him, she doesn’t care whether he is happy or not at that moment. She focuses on herself more and she really is more book-smart than Kaede. She is a model from times to times.

It’s two kinds of love and that’s totally fine. I do root for Kaede but if Azumi wins, I am fine. She is an elite in the real world and there is some men who do like that kind of dynamic. Unfortunately, Setsu isn’t and he wants someone who cares for him and others, who puts everyone before herself and devote to others’ happiness like it’s her own.

Does it sound familiar? If I am not wrong, I think Kishmoto is planning something. The dynamic in Mirumo de Pon! Is common in shoujo manga from 1990 to 2010.

Although I don't dislike Sasuke, I just don't care that much about discussions involving him.

I still like, you know, looking at fan art of him and all. But people strangely lose all sense of proportion with this character and it irritates me (though, once again, I don't hold negative feelings about Sasuke).

But besides "least favorite to discuss," I don't have a "least favorite character," as in a character I actively dislike.

favorite thing about them: I love a lot of things about her! But for now I'll be a bit general and say her arc of continuing to get back up and prove people wrong. I wanna call it perseverance or strength, but it's more like stubbornness lmao. In the early episodes she's prone to defeatism and that's such a far cry from who she is now. She gained hope and belief in herself and leant into the righteous anger she felt watching people she loves be treated like dirt! AUGH I love her

least favorite thing about them: ooh not sure. Maybe that early episode defeatism? Both in an encouraging way where I want her to get back up but also in the sense of "GIRL THIS ISN'T YOUR FAULT NOR THE END OF THE WORLD. TALK TO SOMEONE ABT THINGS!!!" You can see it a bit in for the future too where she interprets hunters ambiguous response ("I don't know") as negative. It's the warped self perception for me /j

favorite line: GRRR THAT'S HARD!! I'm not in encyclopedia mode rn but rn I'm thinking of some lines from Understanding Willow ("you said I was hurting Willow? I was just finishing what you started!" And "it's...a start"). uhh there's also "not if I never look down!" and "it'll be 52 weeks before Caleb's next day off"

She takes care of people more often now, while still having learned her lesson about respect and boundaries from labyrinth runners. Also her design/aesthetic

least favorite thing about them: bit wishy washy but a lot of the early season 1 scenes of her bullying Willow, Luz and Co are like. Hard for me to watch sometimes lol. Same with her and Willow in labyrinth runners. Mean girls just hit too close to home sometimes lol.

But when she committed to abominations her mom cut her off of her lessons and pushed her away from it since there was no "practical use" for it anymore, not like Amity was going into the bard track. She gets back into it post-canon though :] would also like to jump off that starting point and play bass

unpopular opinion: hhh okay. While I think they could've made things more explicit/dwelled upon/whatever in order to communicate more clearly to the audience, I'm overall fine with the direction they took in Amity's "redemption arc". Bc like. She's just a highschool bully who's already being punished by her family when the audience can't see her. The solution to this would not be to punish her more. Maybe she should've gotten to talk things out more, somebody once pointed out that, in the main big redemption arcs in TOH, nobody really says sorry (ON SCREEN. Apologies are very much implied), just makes a gesture and does better, which I understand but also I like apologies they give closure. But overall I prefer them just giving her the chance to follow through on her promises.

Chapter 72 (Final chapter)

There will still be an extra, but this is the end of the story!

The chapter starts with us greeted with a sight of Misono with a baby carrier, and a baby with him. The baby is babbling and Misono is cooing, "What's the matter, Nao? Are you still sleepy after all? (Hush, hush.)". Someone calls out to him, "Jun!"

It's Urara, dressed up cutely to meet Misono.

U: Thank you for waiting! M: We just arrived, too. Nao: making baby noises U (looking at Nao): Oh? Are you unhappy? M (referring to Nao): Yeah, he seems a little sleepy.

A couple of elderly women pass by and see Misono and Urara with the baby. They cheerily remark, "Awww~ what an adorable husband and wife~" "Having a child at such a young age, how impressive~"

Misono and Urara sweatdrop and laugh awkwardly, while Misono mutters, "…This is my little brother."

Urara narrates that last autumn, Misono's family safely delivered a new member into their family, and his name is Nao. Misono and Urara are mesmerized by cherryblossom petals dancing in the wind around them.

M: Look, Nao. It's sakura. U: Nao-kun, the sakura petals are dancing~ It's pretty~ M: Sa-ku-ra. Nao: baby noises U: Haha, he still doesn't understand, huh.

Urara narrates: The seasons are slowly progressing. This is the second spring that Misono and I are welcoming together.

In the next scene, we see Aiji, who's greeting them, "Jun! Andou-san!" Greeting the baby as well, Aiji goes, "Nao came as well, eh~~"

M: You were the one who requested for me to bring him, Aiji. A: Well, that's because I won't be able to see him for a while after this. U: Senpai, this is a farewell gift for you. A: Awww, you didn't have to. Thank you both.

Urara's narration explains that Aiji is about to enter college and will be living on his own starting this spring. He is moving out today.

M: Aiji, are you able to cook for yourself? A: Eh? (Of course I can't <3) Jun, come over and cook for me <3 M: Hah--? Why me? Shouldn't you ask your girlfriend instead? A: Ah--… Ugh, um, well… we're still not officially together. M: HAH?! Are you two still not dating?! U: Is that true?!

Aiji shrinks away and whimpers in fear at Misono and Urara's shock.

M (judging look): Oi oi, what's wrong with you? That's really lame. (How is this even possible?) U (judging look): Senpai, I'm honestly kind of disappointed in you… (How is this even possible?) A (looking back at them): Really, do you guys have to say that--

Aiji indignantly explains, "You two don't even know the slightest bit how difficult that person is to deal with, that's why you're able to say such things! (Even if I make the smallest error in judgment, she immediately withdraws away and puts distance between us!)"

We see a small panel of someone who looks like Arisaka Maaya, growling from behind a brick wall that's labelled as "emotional barrier".

Misono and Urara remain indifferent, while Aiji continues explaining (looking somewhat proud of himself), "But it's precisely because I'm sincere with her, that she's become so cautious…"

Urara whispers to Misono, "With senpai's qualities, all of the world's ladies are at his disposal. Why is he choosing to take the thorny path?"

Misono whispers back, "Who knows? Maybe because he's a M?"

Aside, Aiji cries, "Will you two please stop bullying me already?! (I can hear you, you know!)"

Aiji's father calls for Aiji to set off. Aiji then says to Misono and Urara, "Alright then, I'll be going now. Thank you both for coming to see me off."

M: Remember to properly eat nutritious food, got it? Also, don't let your dirty laundry pile up; don't forget to take out the trash, and ah, be careful using the stove; remember to lock your doors- A: I know, I know~

Aside, Urara chuckles.

Waving and smiling, Aiji bids goodbye: "You guys should come over to hang out too, alright? See you!"

The narration reads: Spring is a season of departures.

Later, we see Urara and Misono hand-in-hand, crossing an overhead bridge. Urara says, "Nao-kun fell asleep immediately after he was handed to your mother, eh."

Misono replies, "He was already very tired. I was the one who forcibly brought him over. (I've been cruel.)"

U: That said, now that Aiji-senpai has moved away, won't you be lonely, Jun? M (blushing): Huh?! I'm not lonely at all! U (teasing): There you go again~ Putting up a strong front~ M: I'm telling the truth!

Someone sees the couple chatting happily from under the bridge. It's Obi. He pauses and goes, "Eh."

Obi's friend, Maki, notices Obi pause and asks, "Hm? Obi, what's wrong?"

O: …Earlier, I saw Andou-san and her boyfriend together. M: Eh?! (For real?) …Then…you…are you okay…? O: Yup. I felt a sting in my heart, but surprisingly I'm fine. M: …Really? You're not pushing yourself? O: It's true, because Andou-san was smiling very happily-- With that, I feel reassured that I was not mistaken back then. So it's fine.

Patting Obi's shoulder, Maki says, "Obi, you're a great guy indeed."

However, Maki squirms and continues, "Ah- I've really been worried about you, you know, because after that, you were confessed to by so many people, but you rejected all of them~ (I thought that you hadn't gotten over it.)"

Obi explains, "I turned them down simply because I didn't have feelings for them. If we started dating just like that, it would be too disrespectful to the other party."

Smiling contentedly, Maki replies, "Then, it seems that even after today, many things will still happen. It's spring, after all. It's a new season."

Obi looks at his friend, then breaks into a small smile. He says, "Anyway, we have to prepare for college entrance exams this year-- (do we even have leisure time--?)"

Covering his ears, Maki whines, "Ahhh, I didn't hear that--".

Going back to Urara and Misono, we now see them under a large tree, having a picnic. Urara remarks that the weather is warm and comfortable.

Misono asks, "Your birthday request was a 'picnic'. Is this really good enough?"

Urara is busy chewing her food and quickly swallows to answer, "Eh? Yes! Why do you ask?"

M: That's because I felt that we should have… gone to a fancier place… or something. Furthermore, we didn't even celebrate your birthday last year. I wanted to make up for it with this year's… U (whining): Under those circumstances last year, I couldn't care less about my birthday! I already told you not to be bothered by it~

A box explains that during Urara's birthday last year, she was preoccupied with Misono's going-to-New York crisis, so even she forgot about her own birthday.

Urara smiles and continues, "Moreover, my boyfriend has prepared such a delicious spread for me. There's nothing more blissful than this."

Misono skeptically goes, "Blissful… That's got to be an exaggeration, right…?"

Urara replies, "I'm not exaggerating at all. The weather is great; the food is so yummy, and the person I love is next to me. This is bliss, isn't it? It's not an exaggeration at all."

Misono looks at Urara's happy, smiling face. He then says, "…Urara, could you hold your hands out for a bit?" while he looks for something in his bag.

Putting her hands out, palms up, Urara goes, "Eh? My hands? (Like this?)"

Misono places a small gift box into Urara's hands. He says, "This is for you… a birthday gift."

U (surprised): Eh… eh?! A gift?! But you already promised me a picnic…! M: I wanted to give you something that you could keep… U: Th-thank you…! Can I open it?! M: Yup. U: …A necklace? It's a horseshoe… M: Ah, Urara, you know about it? The name of this shape. U: Eh, ah, yeah, I think I heard about it somewhere before, so I knew. M (blushing): I didn't know about it myself…

We then see a flashback of Misono's shopping process.

Misono spots the horseshoe necklace in the display and is instantly interested. He thinks, 'Ah! That shape! It's the U in Urara!' and nervously asks the staff, "Excuse me! Please let me have a closer look at that necklace with the letter U on it!"

The staff answers, "Certainly… however, I'm really sorry, this isn't an alphabet character. This was designed after the shape of the horseshoe…"

Embarrassedly, Misono goes, "Ah… (I see…)".

The staff continues explaining, "Nevertheless, this shape has historically been regarded as an amulet for bringing good luck. It's well-loved by people and is a timeless design. The U-shaped part-"

Misono continues the explanation to Urara, "I heard that the U-shaped part is where it 'receives happiness', so I chose this as a gift…"

Urara looks at the horseshoe necklace and thinks to herself, 'I'm already very thankful to receive a birthday gift, but I never imagined that this gift also had such a meaning to it. I'm just so happy.'

Blushing with gratitude and delight, Urara says, "I feel like I'm always receiving things from you."

Misono answers, "That's not the case." He continues while looking up at the cherryblossoms, "I've… never really liked spring, because when I was young, it was spring when my mother left for America. My granny also passed away in spring, when the sakura were blooming… However, when I think about the fact that spring is the season when Urara was born, I become able to like it."

Smiling gently while looking into Urara's eyes, Misono says, "If I'm with you, the world seems to become filled with more and more things for me to love. Urara, I'm really glad that you were born into this world. Happy birthday."

Urara tears up with joy while gazing back at Misono, and they share a kiss.

The narration reads: Whenever you gift me with something, I will always return you a larger portion. With that, you will also always return an even larger portion back to me. This lovely repetition cannot be accomplished with just one person. It's only possible because there's two of us. It's only possible because I'm with you. I want to be in love with you forever, until the end of our lives.

Urara and Misono break the kiss and gaze lovingly into each other's eyes, then both of them break into happy smiles.

U: Say! Can I put on the necklace right now? M: Shall I put it on for you? U: I'm never taking this off! M: (Never, you say…) But school is almost starting again, you know. (Uniform inspection and all.) U: Ah---!! (cries) M: Hahaha!

the first character i ever fell in love with: Scarlet. As soon as I saw her, that was it, game over, everyone else step aside

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: Saizo. I liked the idea of him and Kaze working as a parallel to Corrin and their sibs on opposite sides (at least if you do Conquest), but ultimately he fizzled for me

a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: Kagero/Orochi. I still like them, but I guess I like the memory of liking them? The fandom never really gave me the dynamic I craved, and I wasn't put together enough to ever write anything for them myself.

my ultimate favorite character™: Mozu. I know the Donnel archetype annoys a lot of people but I love her for it. Get big and strong, my daughter. Kill god. Rebuild your village. You deserve the world.

prettiest character: a ridiculously hard question when the whole cast is pretty (at minimum in the generic way) but I'd have to say Reina. That's just a pretty lady right there.

my most hated character: there is competition for this one because the characters I hate I really hate, but I think the winner for Tokyo's Most Hated is Laslow. I hate his stupid face. Why are you even here. Go bother someone who likes your trope.

my OTP: oh god this one is also hard if only because none of the ships really make OTP status for me. If I had to pick, I'd say probably Charlotte/money just kidding mostly Sakura/Hana

my NOTP: Camilla/anyone.

favorite episode: gonna pretend this means "favorite map"; my favorite Birthright map was the Woods of the Forlorn where you fight Leo because it had fantastic vibes; for Conquest, definitely the Great Bridge of Suzanoh where you fight Takumi, again for the vibes

saddest death: if we're talking canonical/inevitable deaths, then Oboro and Hinata at the aforementioned Great Bridge of Suzanoh. I Care Them Much.

favorite season: again, gonna pretend this means "favorite route". Also preparing for the ghosts of FE fans past to gang up on me as a fake fan because my favorite route was Birthright. Conquest made me angry with dumb decisions, and Revelations was what it was.

least favorite season: Conquest. Fuck Garon and playing his silly little games.

"Go home" and "Die soon". TBH I sometimes hear those comments to me. Indeed, it is not real. Just phantom. Now no one says that kind of thing to me. But once I was hated terribly and blamed a lot because of my existence. It has been still left in me. Once I remembered this trauma and was haunted by hate, and even imagined I would revenge them. I would hit them, set fire to their homes... I had a huge rage and was soaked in alcohol. I did nothing wrong then why did I have to see such terrible things? Hate was an intimate friend to me at that period... but now I have never imagined that. Life goes on and seasons change.

This afternoon I ate lunchbox with Kaseki Cider's music, who is a Japanese hip-hop artist. I heard that he is influenced by Motojiro Kajii, a Japanese legendary writer. I was impressed by his great tunes quoting Kajii's sentences and said fluent lyrics. Motojiro Kajii... great. I have Kajii's paperback I once bought cheaply from a used bookstore. I read it once and was deeply impressed. Reading his "Under Sakura trees", I remembered that I had been also impressed by Sakura's blooming because it seemed that Sakura's great vitality. I always think that it must be sublime so I can't stand close to it. Kajii writes that the blooming's beauty is because of the body under those trees. I can see that... this kind of idea might be the reason why I have been bullied.

Recently heavy snow affected my life, therefore, I can't ride my bike. So I go to the workplace on foot. It takes only 10 minutes to go but it makes me tired because of my fat body. Returning to my group home, I slept well. Just I slept, and also read Hitoshi Nagai's "Philosophical Investigations". I am this person and no one else. In short, this person who is writing this diary, watches weird videos, reads Hitoshi Nagai, and listens to Fujifabric. That's me. I have to be surprised at these activities. That confusion is in me... and this myself is also a single person for others. Other people have other personalities, and they are in this world. That makes me impressed. What a rich world it is.

In the 50s, I start thinking "how many Sakura I would be able to watch in this life?"... once I just believed without any sentimental emotion. "This life is over", "I don't care about my future, I would die alone so I decided to enjoy it now"... and I drank a lot. Now I feel a different opinion. "I just quit alcohol today. Just today". I can't see what this life would be like. I just do what I can do, and live every moment preciously to tomorrow. I believe that tomorrow would be a nice day. I enjoy Motojiro Kanjii, and also enjoy amazing music. Fujifabric, Spitz, and Sunny Day Service. Reading Ango also would be nice... my imagination increases.

Liking Misunderstood Characters

It’s weird liking misunderstood characters. On one hand, we’re so excited to find people that also like this character, but then we have to deal with people liking characters for the wrong reasons.

No, I don’t want Gray with Juvia, not because I dislike her alone, but because it’s toxic. I don’t want people hating him for choosing to not be with her if he doesn’t want to. I want to hear about how great of a friend he is, how willing he is to sacrifice everything for the people he loves, how he has relationships with so many different characters.

No, I'm not happy with people reducing Dick to only his body and being overly emotional. He is a seasoned, intelligent hero with very clear goals and a leader in his own right. I want his talents and accomplishments to be recognized as his own instead of constantly taking things away from him and giving it to others to raise them up in status.

No, I don’t want Loki to have redemption. I want his family to apologize and own up to how they neglected and emotionally abused him for centuries. I want it to be established as fact that Loki was in no way a villain in the first movie because he did what they were taught to believe growing up and what Thor just tried doing which was why he was banished in the first place. That his mother isn’t blameless at all and that Thor’s treatment to him in the first movie was messed up. And also that Ragnarok was horrible and shouldn’t be used as a baseline for any character

I want Loki to be seen as intelligent and powerful as he’s meant to be. I want him to stand on his own and be able to exist without Thor there. I want him to get stuff done and find it in himself to believe he isn’t a monster and I want him to not be guilty over things that weren’t all his fault.

No, I don’t want Jet to be demonized for trying to expose Zuko and Iroh. I don’t want him to be written as emotionally abusive when he used Katara for a reason. He didn’t do it to hurt her. He did it to save his own people. And I want people to see that he does morally gray things and knows it but accepts it because no one else will protect the ones he cares about. I want him to be seen as an incredibly talented fighter and someone who cares too much about others.

No, I don’t want fics where Sasuke learns why Itachi killed the clan and then immediately sides with him. He wouldn’t. There were other options. It doesn’t excuse the many other ways Itachi harmed him. It doesn’t excuse that Itachi didn’t try another way. It doesn’t erase that Itachi hated his own clan and loved the village and the village hailed him a hero, not for killing the clan, but for obeying the village. Sasuke should not forgive Konoha. Sasuke doesn’t owe them anything.

Also Team 7 isn’t healthy. Team 7 is toxic in every way, so please stop comparing Yuuji, Nobora, and Megumi to them. One actually cares about each other, and the other only cares about their selfish needs to be fullfilled. Sakura was willing to turn her back on the whole village to be with Sasuke, including Naruto by the way, so I don’t know where people get the idea that Sasuke was the bad friend. And Naruto never tried helping Sasuke, never tried understanding him. He just wanted him back at all costs, even when Sasuke cut them off. Sasuke didn’t owe them anything after that.

Probably this time my questions would seem Silly because as a Kakashi fan, you might have faced this question a million times before and if so, please link your Arguments.

My questions are

1. What do you think about people saying "Kakashi is Over-Rated in real life as well as Narutoverse"?? Like that time Naruto right after Time Skip said, "Kakashi Sensei is inept at handling Sharingan than Sasuke, Cleverer than Shikamaru, Keener sense to smell than Kiba"... Like Rikkudou Sennin complimenting Kakashi as a good sensei when in reality he did nothing for them as a Sensei in that Battle.

2. How do you argue against people who say "Kakashi is not the person who is capable of understanding anyone because everytime he says something... The opposite happens" Like that time Kakashi said "Sakura is not the person to brag about her talents" but later she proved his own words wrong. He said he could bring back Old Team 7 days but again, he ended up being wrong.

The reason I am asking this to you is because, I get a lot of Kakashi and Obito asks these days (it's a season, kind of)... While for Obito, I am very well aware of the purpose he serves to the over arching theme of this series... Probably because of too much of my time spending to debunk Uchiha apologists... And because of that, I ignored Kakashi (a person with strong moral compass). Blame my complacency.

To me, Obito is a Character who was designed to be an Harbinger of Disaster for both Naruto and Sasuke's lives whereas Kakashi became a Sensei for them.

Another purpose is, Obito as an Uchiha had every chance to become an Hokage... He was encouraged to have such dreams by his very own sensei... But he was prevented from becoming one... Due to the manipulation of his life from his very own Clan Member... And he ended up doing the same to his other clan member (Sigh). Uchiha is the best example of Big Fish eats Small Fish...

For starter, I don’t care for power scaling. Fanboys can yap about Kakashi being the weakest Hokage or this person stomps him etc for all I care and I still celebrate the fact that Kakashi is the Hokage who led Konoha toward massive technological and infrastructure developments and there are no major crisis or stain in his reign (Orochimaru is a stain for me but at least he never harmed Konoha or the world on Kakashi’s reign). In fact, I can handle Kakashi being called the weakest Hokage more than Tsunade being called the weakest Hokage. Tsunade is the gal who receive Madara’s Susanoo’s sword point blank and swung it back at him, those misogynist bunch grrr. Looks like my gender bias is stronger than my love for Kakashi haha. I wander in Reddit sometimes and always ignore when there are posts about “vs battle”, especially something ridiculous like DMS (dual mangekyou sharingan) Kakashi vs Healthy Itachi, like what the heck? First, Kakashi has both Mangekyou with him just one time and at that time Itachi is already long gone, including his Edo Tensei version. Second, till this day we don’t know what is Itachi’s illness so from where they get ”healthy Itachi” to make comparison? That’s all simply pointless discussions for me.

Anyway, since I never interested in power battle, I have no clue how overrated Kakashi among casual Naruto viewers in general. I mean, sure, I’ve seen Kakashi fans in my circle talks about his strength, but I’ve never see statement like “Kakashi will defeat Madara” or something like that. In fact, when it comes to Kakashi, most Kakashi fans don’t think much about his strength. In Chinese Naruto community however, Kakashi is called “five-to-five” means that on the screen battle regardless the strength of Kakashi’s opponents (except Zabuza and Demon Brother), Kakashi faces them evenly, neither winning nor losing badly. This puts him in such an awkward place, but by logic it makes sense. Why?

Because Kakashi is an adult character in a kid show, so his role is mostly to stall the opponent before finally they were defeated by the true MC, a.k.a his students. His canon high reputation is also used to emphasis that the enemy of the day is indeed A Big Deal so when the MC finally defeats them, it will make them looks more impressive. So just like MC is destined to win, Sensei role like Kakashi is destined unable to take down MC’s enemies. I believe that in fiction literature world, this phenomenon is called “Worf Effect.”

I am not being overly pessimistic here. Kishimoto himself already made it clear what is Kakashi’s role in his world.

So yeah, Kishimoto saw him as a link between the other main characters, and in harsher word, he puts Kakashi on the background while his students (the MCs) are the focus. It’s indeed harsh to use Kakashi as a tool to uplifted MCs’ stories, but also makes total sense. All in all Naruto is a show about kids and mostly has kids as their demographic intended audiences. The 3 protagonists are being made that way to make the kids as viewers easily insert themselves into either one of protagonists. You can insert yourself in Naruto if you feel like the dumbest person among your peer but want to find hope that you were destined to do something great. You can insert yourself in Sasuke if you think that the world is unfair to you and interested on doing rebel scenario. You can insert yourself in Sakura if you are ordinary girl (I never find boys ever SI to Sakura, cmiiw) who seek romance but also has little confidence and wants to be strong. By his role design, Kakashi is not suitable to be used as self-insert at all, so developing his strength is not the priority in narrative standpoint. Heck, Kakashi doesn’t even have a dream or goal except perhaps protecting the people besides him, so he has no specific reason to “be strong”. Of course, fans are not forbidden to self-insert as Kakashi, but Kishimoto and the concept of the anime itself designed Naruto franchise with the kids are the focus.

(Humain note : I myself sees Naruto franchise in Kakashi’s P.O.V, because somehow I’ve never been fond of inserting myself in the MC. I like to see fictional worlds in neutral third party standpoint without the character’s emotion affecting my own feeling about the situations. So Kakashi character is ideal for me because he always presents on important situations but mostly he becomes an observer and there’s almost no focus on his emotion)

Although, in Kishimoto’s credit, while he gave Kakashi massive “Worf Effect” more than any other characters as the consequences of always stays and exists besides MCs, he still puts a quite effort to paint Kakashi’s strength on a bright light, plus although Pierrot is not always a good studio but I think they genuinely love to make Kakashi’s fights as cool as possible. That way audiences still can enjoy Kakashi’s fights and don’t see him as “jobber” despite his role as enemy’s punching bag before the MCs arrived. He made sure that the enemies Kakashi faced acknowledge his strength and admit that Kakashi does a good job on fighting them, from Itachi to Pain. Even Madara praised him once. It sends a message toward viewers that indeed Kakashi is losing, but he’s still a strong character. That’s why although his winning count is low, it’s totally understandable that general audiences still rate him highly. Why Kishimoto doesn’t do the same toward poor Konohamaru in Boruto, I have no idea. I only pity him so much now, he already became butt-monkey among fanboys. Well, that’s the fate of adult character especially teacher in kids show, even there are popular memes about Sasuke’s low chakra in Boruto community, ironically similar with Kishimoto’s way to nerf Kakashi.

(Humain note : I don’t follow Boruto and I don’t read Boruto manga so I just slightly know about its storyline and community from Reddit. I don’t hate Boruto like most Naruto fans I know, but I don’t like Boruto’s art style. Art style is, uh, kinda big deal for me, I don’t follow One Piece for the same reason. Plus there’s no side character in Boruto manages to hook me into the series, and as I say I have no interest in MC. So CMIIW about any of my Boruto statements)

On the other hand, the strength of Naruto’s enemies are wildly inconsistent, resulted in Kakashi having unbalanced power scale, hence why he gets the awkward “five-to-five” nickname. Personally I think that discussion about power scale of any fictional characters is pointless, after all how strong or how weak a character depends on plot demands and author’s writing. It’s not like if you defend Naruto or Sasuke or others as the strongest being till your neck turn red you will get their power or even a glimpse of it. For me it’s better to discuss about characterization like why and how they react to different difficult situations, what is character’s philosophy and standpoint, and gained life lessons from them, something that we can actually get.

As for in Narutoverse...

Kakashi is stated outright as an elite. An experienced veteran. Not as legendary as The Sannin trio but his famous too. it made him the only person in Narutoverse probably that was chosen to be Hokage not only by Konoha people, but by 4 Kages from different countries with their difference and disagreement.

So yeah, he was rated highly by people in Narutoverse. But since I’ve never see people in Naruto rated him high and be disappointed later, or thought that Kakashi is weaker than his reputation, I don’t think that Kakashi is overrated by Narutoverse standard. He always does his role well as Konoha defender and was mostly tasked with the strongest enemies that any other men can’t handle so dunno if Kakashi is ever getting overestimated.

If I remember correctly on Bell Test after Timeskip Naruto has not yet met Kiba, Shikamaru, or Sasuke in action, right? When we looked at the context, they’re in a hide and seek game to grab Kakashi’s bell, right?

Naruto and Sakura did that conversation to find out Kakashi’s weakness on their version of tag game. With that context, personally I think that the panel are purposed to tell the audience that Kakashi is all-rounder. Most characters have a specialty in one certain aspect like Shikamaru with his intelligence but weak at taijutsu and Rock Lee with his taijutsu but weak at strategizing, Kakashi looks like he excels all of them. His ninjutsu, taijutsu, strategizing, and sensing by smell are above average, making him apparently has no weakness especially since they want to sneak at him and grab his bells. Well, except low chakra. And novel spoiler apparently.

(Humain note : Funny thing is, when I first saw that scene, I immediately thought that Naruto will use his Sexy Jutsu because, well, Kakashi is a “pervert” character and all adults around Naruto are being taken down by that technique. Perhaps because I saw that scene on anime and the segment when Konohamaru used Sexy Jutsu in front of Kakashi, Tsunade, Naruto, Sakura, and Jiraiya are changed. In anime, only Naruto, Sakura, and Jiraiya who’ve seen Konohamaru’s sexy Jutsu so the scene of Kakashi is more interested in his novel that the real NSFW content in front of him are not shown in anime. So yeah, in my understanding, Naruto just stated that Kakashi is “jack of all trades” while using his peers’ specialty to emphasis his point. Is it too hyperbolic of him, surely he doesn’t need to say that Kakashi is better than all of them, right? Perhaps, but in the end Naruto is Kakashi’s student and it’s not weird for a proud boy like him to say that his Sensei is better than his peers.

Is Naruto’s statement born from him putting Kakashi on a high pedestal? Most likely.

Is Naruto the only one who does it? Not really.

Now I understand why Kakashi said that he missed his cute students. At a certain point on their life, Team 7 genuinely believe that their sensei is the strongest ninja in existence, the innocent assumption that is of course untrue and Kakashi never ever claimed himself as that anyway. I once babysat my nephew who genuinely thought that I am the smartest human being on Earth and that’s endearing. Unlike Kakashi I shamelessly indulged his assumption.

Now he knows better and yes, I miss the time when he was still my cute duckling XD

I had to look at the manga again because I don’t remember Hagoromo ever praise Kakashi to be a good Sensei, and indeed Hagoromo praised Kakashi for doing well at leading the team to seal Kaguya.

Which is ya know, things that legit happens in reality. Kakashi is the one who devised strategy to seal Kaguya and led Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura to their respective place in the role of sealing Kaguya. Since Naruto and Sasuke’s attempts are failed at that time, it’s not weird that Hagoromo crediting Kakashi with the plan to seal Kaguya.

Plus,

And here Hagoromo made his praise clear by pointing that although Kakashi is losing his way (mayoi, can be translated as confused, bewildered) he remains Team 7′s teacher and Obito’s friend. As Hagoromo said, that’s a big deal. Kakashi is someone who is certainly getting thrown in a fight that was way out of his league. Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura surpass him on certain extend, Naruto and Sasuke overwhelmingly so. After what Obito did, forgive him is one thing but he saved his life from Kaguya’s lava and guard his body on goddess dimension. Just like Shinobi alliance when Edo Madara went rampage, he felt that the situation he faced in Kaguya dimension was overwhelmingly big for a tired un-godlike shinobi like him. Even Kakashi admitted that

Yet, he found his determination back after hearing Naruto’s declaration, He saw that his students and his friend are fighting so he must do his best too. That resulted in Kakashi tried to protect Sasuke from Kaguya’s Bone Ash, and then conveyed a plan to take down Kaguya just after seeing his friend’s death for a second time (and apparently receives his temporary eyes? I can’t even think straight after that bizarre event).

Kaguya’s take down is also partly happened because he didn’t lose his role as Team 7′s teacher and Obito’s friend. Yes, he passed his leadership to Sasuke and then the latter failed to seal Kaguya with Naruto, but when Kakashi said “he had a plan” all Team 7 members listened to him. Also he reconciled with Obito and was trusted by Obito to handle his Mangekyou + Rikudo power for a last time, and he used them efficiently.

That was admirable, at least for Hagoromo (and me).

I made this post when people said that Kakashi is “emotionally incompetent”. Yes, Kakashi was always calm, elusive, and somewhat distant downright looks emotionless. But most of time he was the one who can say the right thing when the opponent has emotional trouble. So despite his aloof personally, I never see him having problem with understanding emotion, although it’s a somewhat popular opinion even among Kakashi fans.

Ahaha now this is funny, because while misunderstanding and taking too light of serious situations is also a common trait of adult characters in kids media, that becomes hilariously bizarre when it comes from Kakashi. Why? Because looking at his whole life, that man is downright cursed XD

For example, this scene :

When I see this for the first time, my reaction is “ah this is just the usual adult character doesn’t think better than to put Harry Potter’s detention on Forbidden Forest.” Because as I stated above, this is a show with kids as prominent focus, meaning that as per plot rule the kids will actually experience some crisis with adults let it happen in one way or another. At least in Naruto Kishimoto had decency to make the adults actually busy to tend the kids.

But on my re-read, I wanna shake Kakashi hard like “dude, my man, the love of my life, remember when you fought desperately because there has to be another way to save Rin? Naruto’s birth with the risk of Kyuubi getting loose? First C-rank mission turned into A rank mission? Chuunin Exam with murderous Orochimaru gang and Suna gang? Your life is compiled by THE WORST POSSIBLE SCENARIOS HAPPEN WHY THE HECK ARE YOU SO CAREFREE DON’T LET YOUR GUARD DOWN!”

Seriously! In all the clusterfuck of his life, somehow he has a weirdly positive assumption about future matters. Even McGonagall knows better and has this resigned acceptance.

I start to think that Kakashi is in denial about how bad his luck is before finally he deduced that his hero for 18 years is the Harbinger of Disaster XD.

Like that time Kakashi said "Sakura is not the person to brag about her talents" but later she proved his own words wrong.

Although in my opinion Kakashi is capable at understanding emotion, I am not saying that Kakashi always right in his assessment. Kakashi’s role as mouth-piece made fandom sometimes treat his word as absolute truth, but in the end he’s still an independent character who has his own mindset. That mindset can be wrong, just like normal human being who has no telepathic or premonition power. Of course, Kakashi is not an exception, neither is the only one.

For example, let’s look at Hashirama. Unlike Itachi who knows founders era from legends, or Obito who narrates such a biased story about Madara to Sasuke, Hashirama as first-hand witness is more or less in same place as Kakashi regarding credibility of his words, at least about founders era, Konoha, and Madara. Of all Naruto character, only Hashirama who understand Madara emotionally, whereas from Tobirama to Itachi saw him as madman villain. So is that mean Hashirama never wrong about Madara?

Sadly, no, and the poor poor Sasuke paid dearly for it.

Our pure boy believed in Hashirama’s words and charged straight toward Madara, resulted in...

*facepalm* Hashirama...

That doesn’t mean what Hashirama said is utterly wrong. Madara was indeed originally a kind man. Madara indeed loved his brother dearly. And Sasuke indeed has uncanny resemblance with Izuna. It’s wholly understandable that by Hashirama logic Sasuke has a chance to sway Madara’s heart. But seconds later Madara does the opposite of what Hashirama said. Does that mean Hashirama is not capable at understanding Madara? While Hashirama is the only one who take a thought on Madara at emotional level?

My point is Kakashi’s assessment is not absolute. No one is, not even Naruto’s. Kakashi is right about Chiyo who indeed still has a thing to do. He directly pointed out Sai’s emotion when the latter is unable too. But there are some situation when conditionally he’s just incapable to understand or predict, something that Kakashi himself admitted later.

Btw, many people jokingly dubbed that scene as “Hashirama’s rose-tinted opinion of Madara led Sasuke to his death”. I am not exactly disagree with them. Many fans also think that Kakashi also has rose-tinted thought of Sakura, albeit those fans are mainly Sakura haters. I admit that Sakura is indeed Kakashi’s little princess and he adores Sakura like a teacher adores their kid student, so I will not deny that Kakashi maybe has a bias toward Sakura. But is it still count as bias when on other occasion he is “pro” toward his other students? Apparently so, since till this day we still can see opinions like “Kakashi is biased toward Sasuke, he praised Sasuke’s C rank jutsu Katon but not Naruto’s S rank jutsu Kagebunshin in bell test”, or “Kakashi is biased toward Naruto, he tolerated Naruto’s bratty tantrum everytime but immediately confined Sasuke when he rightly lashed out from trauma”. I’ve seen my fair share of Sasuke haters called Kakashi Sasuke wanker and Naruto haters called Kakashi Naruto wanker (-_-)

Well, as we can see, his assessments are either right or wrong depending on the situations (and mostly the plot). I personally think that Kakashi is right about Sakura at some conditions and is wrong about Sakura at another conditions, same case with his other students. I will not elaborate it on this post to avoid it getting longer, maybe another time.

(Humain note : another proof that Kakashi’s design is not suitable to be self insert. Of course there are so many other media MCs with kids in their care but mostly they’re low-maintenance kids who follow and sometimes downright worship the MC like little ducklings. Example, Konohamaru toward Naruto, that’s how you write kid characters for the MC. But Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura are definitely not the type of kid characters that an author wants to saddle to their self-insert character. Even as Kakashi fan who sees Naruto’s world in Kakashi P.O.V, every time I see Naruto, Sasuke, or Sakura hard fans who can just demand and critic, only see their fav’s struggle, and completely ignoring everything else, it strengthen my resolve to never ever have children. Or at least multiple children at one time.

Oh right, just to clear my standing in case anyone wondering, I am neutral-pro about Sakura. I am also neutral-pro about Sasuke, Naruto, and characters that Kakashi cares about. Neutral period or straight don’t care with NaruHina, SaiIno and other romance in general except MinaKushi and ShikaTema. Anti Sasusaku, just thinking about them gave me headache. For me, Kakashi is a neutral character who assess both allies and enemies equally. It’s not like he is bias-free, but he seldom let his emotion affect his judgement.

Of all Naruto characters, I only hate Orochimaru, Danzo, and Kabuto in that exact particular order).

He said he could bring back Old Team 7 days but again, he ended up being wrong.

I believe he said that “soon things will go back to old days”. The “soon” he’s talking about is after Kakashi lectured Sasuke and Jiraiya did the same to Naruto. An assessment that was spoken first by Jiraiya and Kakashi agreed with him. They believed that they can fix the situation after they gave both Naruto and Sasuke a few lectures and that’s why Kakashi assured Sakura.

Suffice to say that they both underestimate the severity of Naruto and Sasuke’s feud, something that Kakashi himself admitted later.

I spoke about Kakashi’s possible thought about that scene in this post. Basically the summary of that post is :

I think before Kakashi quite based Naruto and Sasuke’s rivalry with his and Obito’s rivalry in the past, and despite how dysfunctional Team Minato has become, their past selves in Naruto and Sasuke’s age never ever think of pointing deadly weapon toward their own teammates. Jiraiya based Naruto and Sasuke’s rivalry with his rivalry with Orochimaru, but even they as far as I know never go all out because of rivalry. Also, in the end Kakashi and Obito’s ceased their argument and work together when Rin is in danger, whereas Naruto and Sasuke are incapable to stop themselves even when Sakura is at the tip of their attack. Perhaps for Kakashi the possibility of himself and Obito pointed deadly attack in front their teammate and actively tried to kill each other and is unthinkable so he unconsciously held the same standard toward Naruto and Sasuke’s fight.

The reason of that discrepancy is because the intense emotion and determination on Naruto and Sasuke’s feud is more serious than kid Kakashi vs Obito ever been, even when the latter is in the middle of 3rd Ninja War. I don’t think no one can perfectly understand them except Hashirama and Madara who are their predecessor.

So, What purpose does Kakashi serves to the over arching theme of the story??

Kakashi’s purpose on Naruto story is :

- As a Sensei.

You are right, Kakashi’s most prominent role since his early design is as Naruto and Team 7’s sensei.

(the order of character’s creation. The scan is blur so I can’t read the Chinese character. Perhaps someone has the clearer version?)

What is Kakashi’s role as Sensei? To teach the audience (in Naruto POV) about truth about ninja world. The gritty part, the sad part, the happy part, the fun part, Kakashi’s role was to teach and accompany MCs while they were learning all of that.

- Reasonable enabler adult

This role was shown ever since Land of Waves arc, but it truly shines in Kage Summit arc, when everything became so wild and everyone apparently lose their basic skill of self-control.

Minutes later he was orchestrating the whole plan so Naruto can safely meet Raikage.

This is also shown in Part 1 when Kakashi allowed Sasuke fought while having Cursed Seal on a certain condition.

I think that’s why although Kakashi is an adult character, he doesn’t feel like a “boomer” who disrupt the fun in fear of danger toward his kids, while still looks as a caring character who is certainly concerned about his students.

- As mouthpiece about Naruto and other connecting characters.

I don’t think I have to explain about this. From Land of Waves when he told Inari about Naruto’s condition till his last talk with Hagoromo, he spent his dialogue bubbles filled with his observation about his students.

- Emphasis the tragedy of Obito’s downfall.

Yes, Obito is the Harbinger of Disaster in Naruto franchise, but he’s also a very nice and bright boy in the past. The best way to feel the full extent of Obito’s tragic change of heart is by looking at Kakashi’s p.o.v, because Kakashi is the only one in Naruto world who ever saw Obito at his brightest. Naruto is absolutely clueless, Gai didn’t think much about Obito, I remember Shikaku was like “So the fake Madara is Uchiha Obito that was supposed to be dead, well that was surprising. Anyway the plan is..” and Minato mostly felt sadness and regret because he was failed at protecting his student, but Kakashi.... Kakashi is downright heartbroken. In front of his own eyes his hero turned into an unrecognizable monster who brought suffering toward his students. His promise to protect Rin? He killed her with his own hand, and that brought immense suffering to Obito, resulted in the horrendous chain of event. His promise to see the future as Obito’s eye? What’s the point of that, turns out Obito is alive the whole time and tried to destroy the said future.

The poignant sense when the source of determination and life lesson that the Sensei role tried to teach the MC is actually the Big Bad brought different interesting sides of the Big Bad plus the Sensei role. At the same time, the plot was also used to develop Kakashi’s character so he finally let go of his past and lived for himself. Those all make the Tobito plot twist as one of a masterpiece in Naruto, at least for me. Now, you can say that I am biased because it gave me more exploration of Kakashi, and I am not denying it. It’s the first time I’ve seen the always calm Kakashi completely thrown out and since I see Naruto in Kakashi’s p.o.v, the sudden exposure of his intense feeling caught me out of guard and I just can’t help but to be hearbroken as well. Not just me, apparently many authors saw the beauty of that plot twist and made their own version of “Obito” to their own version of “Kakashi” character.

Example no. 1. Gintoki and Shoyo.

(Gintama fans, Spoiler warning!)

Yes, Gintoki is an MC, but there are many similarity with Gintoki’s character with Kakashi’s character, like lazy eyes, aloof personally, in surface is a massive dork and troll, loves porn mags...

And of course, hard past.

Just as Shoyo’s supposedly last moment is so bright in Gintoki’s eyes, turns out he was alive and becomes Big Bad.

Resulted in Gintama fans having mixed feeling about him (I think, I haven’t pick up Gintama till the end because I was too saddened by the Shogun’s death).

Example no. 2, Aizawa, the Sensei of Class A and his late best friend Shirakumo

(BNHA fans, Spoiler warning!)

Well, turns out the “white cloud” (Shirakumo) turned into “black fog” (Kurogiri) although in Shirakumo’s case is by brainwashing.

(Anyway KakaGai and ObiKaka fans can check out about BNHA rooftop gang contents, it’s kinda similar with Gai/Kakashi/Obito dynamic)

For example no.3, I know that you watched Jujutsu Kaisen @captnjacksparrow so I will not spoiler anything other than Gojo-sensei has his own “Obito” as well.

Coincidence? Perhaps. But nice details nonetheless.

As for over-aching theme of the series for me...

Naruto part 1 theme : get stronger to protect important person

Naruto shippuden theme : Break the cycle of hatred

Naruto theme in general : mutual recognition and understanding

(This is strictly my interpretation so you guys can agree or disagree)

Those themes are things that Naruto as MC must learn through the length of anime. But adult characters like Kakashi? In surface, looks like he has learned all of them. He tried to get stronger to protect important people in his life and when his important people left him one by one he’s just stop...developing. But he still kept the lesson to protect precious comrades at all cost, something that becomes one of Naruto’s lesson in life as well.

Kakashi’s character as veteran shinobi plus his nature to not held a grudge made him well-known and accept the hard truth of shinobi’s life, so he bore no hatred toward anyone for his misfortune, as I already discussed in this post. He tried to break the hatred in Sasuke although didn’t succeed because of the little detail about Kakashi character that I will explain below.

For the last theme, mutual recognition and understanding...

This is when Kakashi’s getting tricky.

See, we know that mutual understanding is a big deal in Naruto. That’s how you form bond, that’s how you break the cycle of hatred, that’s how you get stronger in the process. In Pain arc, it pointed straight how can you achieve mutual understanding from this panel.

“I am in pain, so I understand your pain, You know my pain so let me hear yours”.

This mutual understanding are supposed to happen both way. Both sides let go their defenses, bare their souls open, and show each other pain while at the same time listen to each other. In Naruto world, and even in our real world, the act of mutual understanding is often failed because each individuals are more inclined to talk about their own pain while ignoring other party’s pain, or in the worst case, when they already hear it, they pulled a Pain and said “yes you are in pain, BUT MY PAIN IS GREATER THAN YOURS!”

(Humain note : considering my distaste toward Pain Olympic, plus the fact that scene is animated badly, I hate Pain for like a whole week and cheered for every blow he received, more than any villain I’ve ever seen. Yes, even Orochimaru)

Iruka, with his de facto role as person who acknowledge Naruto, fulfills his role and did it perfectly) since the first chapter.

Iruka admitted his own pain. He told Naruto about it, while making it clear how painful the loneliness is felt for Iruka himself. He empathized with Naruto, and at the same time, make Naruto can see Iruka’s pain as well and realizing that yes, he’s not alone.

Whereas Kakashi is...

As Kakashi fans, I will say that the conversation managed to sway Sasuke’s hard determination and making him reconsider his revenge mindset. But also as Kakashi fans I had to admit that it honestly sucks compared to the talk Iruka gave to Naruto. Yes, Kakashi told Sasuke a liittlllee about his pain, but just to say that he understands the pain from losing. He doesn’t elaborate about how painful the loss of precious people for himself, and behind that awkward smile he tried to hide his pain from Sasuke.

There’s no way Sasuke can empathize with that. I found a comment in Reddit that said Kakashi should talk more with Sasuke, should explain everything and elaborate his point in the conversation, and I somewhat agree (although they said it in a not nice manner and I just wonder since when Kakashi is a therapist). Just like in Naruto’s case, empathy is important so the recipient doesn’t feel alone in the “Hurt” land and achieve mutual understanding. Kakashi is absolutely justified to keep his painful past as private matter and doesn’t talk about it to his mere kid student, but still, that’s why Kakashi’s talk no jutsu toward Sasuke is always failed, also his talk to Obito in Kamui land. Also that’s why Naruto told Sasuke about his pain because of losing Jiraiya toward Sasuke in the Land of Iron.

That’s Kakashi’s problem. When usually the failure of mutual understanding is because of the person involved just want to talk about his own pain without hearing the other, Kakashi is content to hear the other’s pain and provide support, while completely clam up about his own pain. That was sometimes enough to emotionally help others, but with that he can’t unlock the hidden rare S rank jutsu, “talk no jutsu” XD.

As far as I know, there are only 2 time in the whole 700 chapters manga when Kakashi laid bare his soul and tell the other party that, yes, “I am hurting”. And no, his “the situation went shit because of me” lament doesn’t count, because it’s his self-deprecation, not acknowledgement of his suffering.

The said 2 times are when he conversed with Sakumo and Obito, his Heroes who have the highest place in Kakashi’s heart.

First is Sakumo. In a weird way, Kakashi’s death is the kindest thing Kishimoto did to him, because that’s his chance to reconcile with his father without any interruption. Kakashi is highly secretive person, so when Sakumo said “please tell me your tale” and Kakashi agreed, I know that Kakashi will do something that he will not do in other people’s presence.

In anime, they add a scene when Kakashi admits how painful Sakumo’s suicide to him, and it’s a nice touch. Regardless, he already told everything to Sakumo (sad that we didn’t see the storytime on screen, Kishimoto is too stingy T_T) and finally said that he understood his father just did everything he could have, just like him. And although it ended badly, he also understood the pain of already did your best but everything went to shit anyway, because he already told his tale and, considering him, complete with his failures to Sakumo. For some reason he wore mask in Purgatory, but still unlike with Sasuke he didn’t hide his emotion at all in front of Sakumo, solemnly said that he understood Sakumo and proud of him.

At that time, I, who saw Naruto in Kakashi’s P.O.V, felt a rare intense emotion from Kakashi for a long time after Kakashi Gaiden (damn that shit broke me good).

Then, Obito. Oh god, Obito. Not many Kakashi fans can’t handle Tobito reveal without going manic, I assure you that. Because in the dry land of Kakashi shipping so the most popular pairing is Kakashi with a guy whom he talks like 3 times in manga canon, Obito is undoubtedly a huge deal for Kakashi. And of course, his reveal managed to pull a glimpse of Kakashi’s plain emotion, something that I sadisticly appreciate XD. I love when character’s emotion affect me, but only rarely. I am weird like that.

Anyway, on their talk in Kamui land, Kakashi still tried to push the focus away from himself. Obito, you are this, Rin is this, Naruto is that. Even when Obito tried to talk about Kakashi’s guilt and suffering and how he doesn’t have to suffer anymore, he still didn’t talk about his own pain and just said that the Infinite Tsukuyomi plan can’t heal broken heart and how a heart can only be healed by people around you. And yes, saying that he was a trash is a form of self-deprecation so it doesn’t count.

Well, the talk was failed but thankfully Minato gave him a second chance. So Obito and Kakashi talk happened again with Obito started about how painful the loss of Rin for him and how bleak the world without Rin’s existence. Then, Kakashi did something that utterly surprised me.

“It might not have been a mistake, actually”

This is certified as the most illogical statement Kakashi even said in the whole franchise. Why? Because minutes before Obito practically tried to brainwash the whole world, killed people left and right while taunting that the world has no future, and whatever other hullaballo he caused toward Shinobi world. To say that Obito’s action might be right is as insensitive as Naruto declared that Sasuke’s action is understandable when minutes before he tried to kill Kakashi and Sakura. Thanks that only Minato can hear it, he was already dead anyway and surely he doesn’t mind that Obito’s action that resulted in his death might be not wrong in Kakashi’s opinion XD

But really, I bet that Minato understand. It’s not coincidence that he compared Obito and Kakashi with Naruto and Sasuke.

So Kakashi talks, properly this time. Kakashi opened up his soul and actually admit that, “you know, I understand your standpoint because damn, it hurts me so much so you must feel hurt like me too”. No sugar coating, no attempt to hide it with smile, Kakashi shows his plain sadness in front of Obito, to make Obito empathize with him. Thus, the mutual understanding is conveyed between Obito and Kakashi, and that’s probably one of the reason why Hagoromo praised Kakashi. Because in his attempt to stay as Obito’s friend, he got out from his comfort zone and did something that he has never done before, a.k.a, sigh, actually acknowledging his own emotion.

You have no idea how proud I am of him at that time. That’s also perhaps why he suddenly said “I love you” to Team 7 in Kaguya dimension. Still doesn’t mean that it didn’t shock me though, and considering the meltdown happened after that chapter, I am not the only one.

Tl:dr = I firmly believed that Kakashi is the example of how to write good adult character in kids media. Yes I am biased. Yes I don’t care, my point still stand.

Saiki takes a small spoon and starts eating his coffee jelly, he enjoys spending his time with you.

Going to an arcade with Kaidou after school. Kaidou’s naturally competitive, but we all know he kinda sucks at a lot of stuff. You laugh at his very angry attempt to get back to first place, only for him to stay in 2nd place behind you. You smiled at him, it’s just so funny when he has that cute lil focused face of his. Admiring your boyfriend you seem to have forgotten all about the game, Kaidou shouted a small “Yahoo!!!” when he realized he was ahead. “Woah! Hey that’s not fair!”, you giggled and put your attention back on the game, anyways you ended up winning. Kaidou whined and leaned back on the plastic car seat, crossing his arms and putting on a cute pout. Kaidou won’t admit it, or maybe he will, but he craves your attention. Your gaze, he wants it all. He’s greedy for your love, and your affections. No matter what you do to him, no matter what happens, he’ll still end up craving you.

Imagine:

Late night cuddles with Teruhashi. Her legs and arms tangled around you and you find yourself trapped inside her arms. You can feel her heart beating, the feeling of her chest rising up and down. Hearing her soft snores, you can even feel her breathe. This would be such a majestic moment, but you were used to this. Used to being her lover, but she still amazed you nonetheless. Her beauty only doubled how you felt for her, she shifted in her sleep and you jumped a bit. Opening her eyes, she gave you a sleepy smile, “Y/N? It’s a bit late don’t you think?”. You laughed a bit, “I can’t sleep, plus I’m tangled up here so...”, she giggled a bit. Though she didn’t let go, in fact she only pulled you closer. “Too bad, you’re mine now!”, she laughed and hugged you close. You chuckled and hugged her back. You loved these nights, when she finally exposed her true self. When she wasn’t always obsessed with making herself look cute and lovable, she was vulnerable around you. She trusted you to see her ugly days, but really she was never truly ugly once. You loved her no matter how much makeup she put on, you loved who she was behind her facade.

Imagine:

A nice family dinner with Nendo. The smell of pork broth filled the kitchen as you sat on the counter, watching Nendo and his mom chopping the last bit of carrots they were putting into the broth. You sighed happily, loving the times you had with Nendo and his mama. He loved it too, having you over and his mom adored you. Which was the best part. You swung your legs in glee, “Woah Miss Nendou, whats your secret? That already smells so good!”, she only smiled and looked at you. “My secret is love of course! Nothing is tastier then true love itself!”, you smiled and laughed a bit. You truly enjoyed seeing how Nendo completely changed to how he is in school, a complete soft spoken mama’s boy. And you had nothing to complain about, you loved your big softie.

Imagine:

Walking around the park with Imu. Hands intertwined and chatting as if you both didn’t have a care in the world. Though Imu loved to hang out with you, she always knew the reason why she fell for you in the first place. The grass was soft, and it smelled nice too. She saw a colorful array of flowers and it was sakura season. It only made the moment twice as special to her. She knew you liked her looks, hell she’s adorable! You loved her for other reasons too. You loved her jokes, her style, her voice, how competitive she was, to how embarrassed she gets when you kiss her hand. You noticed her for more then what she presented and she was interested, not once did she look back after she asked you out on that day.

Imagine:

Watching a movie, cuddled up in Kusuke’s arms. His hand around your waist as he lazily put his head on your own. He chuckled softly at one of the many cringey moments, you never understood why he liked romcoms so much. He always said it was because of how stupid they are but the fact that he cried during every sad moment only proved him wrong. Though you never complained, finding yourself consoling him while he rested his head on your lap, it was paradise. He was always so stressed, it was a constant need to have to upper hand against his brother that moments like these rarely happen. Seeing him carefree and happy was your only wish, and he was glad he spent these moment with you.
