Found new hyperfixation, which is apparently adaptation of the oldest ship in human history. Read the epic overnight and holy did I just read the original soulmate story? My "soulmate lover" ass have been blessed 😭😭 Prophetic dream, made for other, instant connection, seriously why did I just know this story now?
Glad to know that I am not the only one who thought "Kimi no Nawa!" when Gil and Enkidu sensed each other presence from miles away and process to make crate that became everyone's problem. Yeah "a beautiful view indeed" (sorry Faldeus but your suffering has just begun, and somehow that crater is the least hazard one). Looking forward for FSF anime (and Narita goddamnit first Izaya then I have to wait for one more update from you T_T)

Remember when Kakashi made someone who was essentially his father's mortal enemy laugh? Or when quite instantly worked together with Kurama and even joked with him? Or the very reassuring conversation between Kakashi and Gaara on their first mission together?
I'll be forever amazed by the amount of kindness that Kakashi has as someone who holds so much pain inside his heart
Kakashi’s understanding of friendship is fascinating to me. His man looks at someone, thinks they’re nice and immidiatly catagorizes them into the ‘friends’ category.
Like most people around him would get to know a person a bit better and create a decent amount if familiarity before placing someone into the ‘friend’ category
But Kakashi does it almost instantly and it makes it so he really struggles to understand anyone who doesn’t do that, like Sasuke or Tenzo.
Like this man barely knows Zabuza yet as soon as they stop fighting and get along for 2.2 seconds Kakashi has in some ways already started to consider him ‘friend’ because he openly tells him about Naruto the next time they see each other. Without hesitation or thought.
He could be like Sasuke and try to sever his bonds to block away his emotions. Given what has happened in his life it would be totally understandable for him to want to protect his heart and thus never really consider a person a friend until they know each other deeply (like Sasuke does with Naruto)
But instead he’s so desperate to ‘fill the hole in his heart’ (as he says) that instead of closing his heart he kicked it open so hard he almost splintered the damn thing.
Even when he’s at his darkest he connects with Yamato so deeply that he calls him his friend after two meetings. Even when Yamato’s trying to kill him. They have worked together and fought in the past so in their line of work it would be smart to have some sense of caution around someone who you have clashed with due to who they work for. But he calls Tenzo his friend without hesitation.
I love it

I admittedly didn’t pay through attention toward all Naruto novels and materials (except if it’s related to Kakashi hehe), but my number one rule is materials that were personally written and/or even drawn by Kihimoto is the prime undisputed canon. So okay, Sarada and Boruto is roughly at the same age. This is 5-6 years old Sarada in Naruto Gaiden :
Tumblr media
Compare her size in that panel with her panel in The Day Naruto Became Hokage :
Tumblr media
It’s obvious that in the below panel Sarada is way older and bigger than her appearance in the first panel. Sakura didn’t have to crouch down anymore for Sarada to be as tall as her chest. And hello there Iruka who was in the same panel, wtf happened to 33 years old Iruka in the span of mere 5-6 years?
Like, I know Kishimoto can be inconsistent with character age measure (like 6 years old Chuunin Kakashi) but in The Day Naruto Became Hokage clearly he tried to show that massive time skip happen before Naruto became Hokage with his art. In conclusion, Kakashi’s Hokage reign is definitely longer than 5-6 years
Dear Professor, do you know if there is a light novel version of "The Day Naruto became Hokage"? I'm asking because a fan on youtube is saying that Kakashi was only Hokage for 5 to 6 years because Naruto became Hokage at 25 years old and they're using as one of their argument the "fact" that, in this novel, Boruto and Himawari are stated to be 5 and 3 years old by the narrator. But I can't find anything about this novel (including its existence) online. Any thoughts?
I am sorry this took me a minute to respond to, Anon! Sadly, I do not know the answer, but I will tag the resident Kakashi experts @skykashi and @huskymaine to weigh in, as well as invite anyone else who might know more to lmk in the ask box or on replies to this post.
AFAIK, "The Day Naruto Became Hokage" is an omake manga chapter / animated short on a Boruto DVD, and there isn't a light novel version but I haven't watched or read either one, because I have a general principle to eschew almost all things Boruto, which is why i tagged skykashi and huskymaine who are much better informed than i am. I just double-checked my stack of Naruto light novels just to make sure I hadn't forgotten one, but only found Naruto Family Day and a japanese language novelisation of The Last.
Maybe a novelisation does exist, but my guess is that this youtube fan is pulling "facts" from their own mind, rather than from a canon source. In general, I usually take any and all fan timelines and chronologies with a grain of salt anyway though, mostly because Kishimoto and his team seem incapable of making the canon ones consistent in the first place.... But then again I'm notoriously bad at remembering what month we're in, so I'm not one to talk.

I love how in this arrangement Kakashi looks like Naruto's older brother. In kinder world Kakashi and Itachi would be the "ANBU Older Brother" duo for Naruto and Sasuke.

Guess who just finished watching Boku no Hero Academia Season 6! Hehe, I got hooked by Hawks instantly on the past season and mildly intrigued by Dabi before but them on this season, wow...
Me, watching Hawks killed Twice and Dabi deranged dance while collected their footages like a coffee-induced Skeptic : You are doing amazing, sweeties...
2 things I have in mind while watching their chaotic shenanigans :
1. They’re at the same age as me and readily get burned left and right for their goals while I can’t even gather enough motivation to finish my thesis wtf
2. Why are they side characters of side characters each of them are enough to lead their own series
The youtube version : https://youtu.be/KE0vYC1rahg
Please enjoy, feedbacks are appreciated!

In a kinder universe, it would have been nice to have Kakashi and Obito successfully rescue Rin, and then have all three of them gather up the pieces of the tanto for repair back at home.
I know that we already discussed about this but please don't tempt me to finish my "Kakashi got his dad's tanto fragments back" WIP fic 😭😭😭
I do think it's possible and probable that Kishimoto just forgot to write some follow-up here, both with regards to what happened to the tanto after Kannabi Bridge (whether it was repaired, as in the anime, or left behind), and why Kakashi (and Sakumo) have the ability to use white chakra to begin with.
Based on this panel about Shisui's personal chakra color (interestingly I have yet to find a non-game source that says Shisui's chakra color is green),
Tumblr media
And the fact that Naruto's normal chakra color is supposed to be yellow (Kyuubi influenced's chakra color is red),
Tumblr media
I think chakra colors are supposed to be different from person to person. Since Minato has Yellow Flash as his nickname it's possible that his chakra color is yellow too and chakra color is hereditary from parent to child, thus Kakashi got his white chakra from Sakumo.
(I know that anime says otherwise but this particular detail is one of the most inconsistent trivia in Naruto, not helped by the fact that Kishimoto himself gave up on correcting them about this and followed their idea instead, unless his drawings are colored by someone else)
Tumblr media
Which to me implies that Sakumo did teach Kakashi some amount of kenjutsu before he passed, even though Kakashi tends not to use it often in the years following. More's the goddamn pity :( he looks so cool when he's wielding sharp objects. I think from a character standpoint, Kakashi himself decided to steer away from becoming a renowned kenjutsu expert. For one thing, he has such a natural affinity for ninjutsu that it was probably calling his name from the get-go, and for another, he probably wanted to distance himself from "Dad's Thing," either before or after Sakumo's doomed mission, or both. Small Kakashi seemed pretty determined to do things his own way, and might not have wanted training in kenjutsu in the first place, not even from his "Legendary" parent.
Don't forget, ANBU Kakashi is a kenjutsu master and he has no qualms to show it
Tumblr media
Small Kakashi also pulled some kenjutsu feats that I don't think can be achieved from years of abandoned training (I mean Kakashi is talented and strong but he is still a preteen kid facing a dual-wielder grown ass adult).
Tumblr media
Only when he entered his jounin sensei era that he apparently abandoned swords altogether and stick on tiny kunai to fight the big ass Execution Swords.
Tumblr media
Although of course his kenjutsu skill is not disappeared in his adulthood (at this point I think he has amazingly strong arms to pull both tiny kunai and big sword with the same fluid and stern grace).
Tumblr media
So while I'd love to entertain myself on more angsty potential, I wonder if the reason why he never carried any sharp objects sans kunai anymore is because he thought that carrying swords everywhere is too much of a bother for him when he can achieve what top swords wielders do with a tiny, easily stored kunai of his😂😂😂
Which really is a damn shame, because that White Light Chakra Sabre seems like a pretty cool and unique ninja weapon. The thing about a streak of white chakra is that it’s presumably controllable by the person wielding the blade. Which would indeed put Sakumo at a huge advantage in a close-range fight, since he would be able to control and alter the length of and breadth of his blade without his opponents being any the wiser until it was too late to counter. The idea of wielding an ‘invisible’ blade, or in other words, a longsword/broadsword that appears to be only the size of a tanto knife, is pretty formidable.
This is a nice hc, I accept!!👏👏👏
Hii,
I was curious if you ever thought about why Sakumo’s tanto broke during Kakashi’s fight. I guess there could be a symbolic sense: relieving the burden of his father thanks to Obito. Or it could be something completely different like their chakra nature not matching (I always thought the father and son would share a doton since they are a Hatake and maybe Sakumo would have an inherent wind release complementing his blade) Of course, none of this is supported by canon.
Thank you for your time!
You’re very welcome! It’s a wonderful question!
I love the idea of the tanto (or White Light Chakra Sabre) being both symbolically and narratively important.
When I first watched this scene, I thought perhaps the reason it broke was to add to the tension. Murphy's Law and all. One of those situations heroes get themselves into where everything that could go wrong does go wrong.
I think the symbolic transfer you mentioned is a pretty great reason too, though. @huskymaineaine and I have had some discussion about this subject in the past. The idea that Kakashi had (or was pretending to have) about his father, that Sakumo had chosen wrongly by choosing to prioritize his friends over the mission, did get shattered by Obito's words. So it makes sense in a sort of "letting go of the past" way, seeing those shards of his father's legacy falling all over the forest floor, only to discover that it's time for Kakashi to begin leaning on Obito perspective - literally (through the Sharingan) and figuratively (through his never abandon your friends ideals). In a kinder universe, it would have been nice to have Kakashi and Obito successfully rescue Rin, and then have all three of them gather up the pieces of the tanto for repair back at home.
Unfortunately, Team Minato did not live in a very kind universe.
@skykashi also has some good thoughts on this subject!
As for me, from what I could tell, it appears that the tanto releases white chakra after it’s swung, and since we only ever see Kakashi using it, it may well only do that for the Hatake-wielders. Would love to know what might have happened if Obito had ever “borrowed” the tanto off of Small Kakashi and given it a swing. I’m assuming it probably wouldn’t have worked. Not without a certain amount of both kenjutsu and ninjutsu skill, anyway.

Uchiha with Sharingan could probably counter it well enough, since they can see chakra movements, but other doujutsu users like the Hyuga probably would have been at a loss, since the chakra isn't extended through the body of the tanto-wielder, but instead through an object.
So yeah, Sakumo was probably a complete badass with this thing. We know Sakumo was a kenjutsu master with all-around shinobi skills on par with Tsunade, Orochimaru, Jiraiya, Hiruzen, and Minato. He may have had a summons, like all of them did, but that’s not confirmed. So I’m guessing the bulk of his reputation was built on his ability to mow down enemies in a close-range fight, and get the upper hand on highly skilled opponents by throwing their expectations and ability to make mid-battle calculations into a state of chaos.
As to father and son sharing a doton release, that's definitely possible! We see (in an Obito flashback) that Smol Kakashi was capable of a pretty damn fine mudwall when he was just a little tyke. I always had sort of assumed that the white chakra release was related to lightning nature chakra release, because Kakashi’s chidori is whitish-blue. But that’s only a visual similarity. It could be a wind release, or even perhaps a lick of white fire, or it could be that the tanto’s chakra can be created by any of the chakra nature releases. Or none of them, if it’s somehow inherently shaped into the nature of the blade itself, rather than dependent on the wielder.
One personal theory I quite like is the idea that the blade (and the white chakra itself) is activated only by those who have learned to use all five chakra nature elements. Kakashi, for example. As far as I know, Sakumo's chakra nature types is not confirmed anywhere in canon, but I think it would be pretty cool if he were a user of all five types as well. Just a possibility.
Great question, anon, and please anyone else with thoughts, please feel free to weigh in!

(This is after he impaled Obito's heart. I don't know if he had panic attack at that time but his breathing is very heavy-labored so he must be in so much pain, physically and emotionally)
kakashi has what appears to be multiple panic attacks throughout the show, and he takes the same stance every single time, and i only recently noticed this, so i wanted to point it out bc idk if anyone else has noticed this. you can visbily see his shoulders quickly rising and falling, meaning he is breathing quite heavily.

1st screenshot: After Gai uses the 8th gate, and Kakashi presumes he did not survive the action
2nd screenshot: Kakashi choking up while using Chidori soon after the incident with Rin
3rd screenshot: Obito takes Kaguya's rod to the stomach and begins to fall apart
4th screenshot: Soon after Kakashi exited the 72 hour genjutsu from Itachi
(in the second screenshot, that was a canon panic attack, as we see his eyesight get blurry and stuff, but the other three are me simply implying with context clues such as his heavy breathing.)
