thank you to the three people that tagged me in the twst author spotlight ^^ irene, siren, and sapphy, thank you. i read what you said about me and i was very touched. i didnt think i would gain so many friends in such a short period of time, and you all deserve to be recognized for your contributions to the twst community!! :D

@tinyletterz, who has a beautiful soul and amazing writing. i've known her since my baby days on quotev writing for a fandom which shall not be named, and it's so such a pleasure being her friend. she writes twst x reader content and has a gorgeous series about flower languages that i think about a lot. thank you remy for helping me get accustomed to tumblr, you're the og!!

@shkrmpp, who was my first mutual that i'd never met before here. thank you for asking about jellyfish and being such a bubbly presence on my dash. shrimpy writes x reader content and creates adorable art!! their hair dye series with the leech twins is super cute and i find myself thinking about teh floyd part in particular very often ^^

@fukashiin, with the prettiest themes and the gorgeous art style. winou CONSISTENTLY writes absolute bangers that make me so giddy. this one in particular is one of my favorites, and her writing style reminds me of a soft summer breeze. she's such a bubbly person and its so fun talking to her, even if we don't talk often. ^^ she's one of the three people that keeps my deuce content afloat.

one could say many things about the beloved @hisui-dreamer!! from the way she adores her friends to teh way she writes, rinna is always soft and sweet. she radiates comfort and is such a soothing person, i feel so safe around her. she writes x reader content and every single piece is its own masterpiece. she's one of my closest friends on here and i wish nothing but the best for her every day.

@merotwst, who has a bucnh of adorable oc content (on @meromessy !!) and writes x readers!! ellie in on haitus right now takinga well deserved break. <3 but she writing is amazing and i am FLOORED whenever i see her art!!! it's literally so gorgeous and i don't understand how she does it. its crazy. how is so much talent in one person.

@siren-serenity is not only a lovely author of x reader content, but also a lovely friend. ^^ siren also has an oc named melody who is so cool!!!! she was the pastor at my wedding and fought TOOTH AND NAIL for that position LMAO love u renren!!! she really writes azul SUPER WELL and im so happy to have met someone so calm and soothing to talk to.

@officialdaydreamer00, aka nutmeg, is a rascal. an absolutely rascal but they're really the best. they have a yuusona with LORE and a bunch of really creative & cute events!! seriously nutmeg, nobody does it like you. if you want to see our favorite twst boys in strawberry dresses or recieve a pair of cute earrings, irene's blog is the place for you!!!

@the-v-lociraptor has STELLAR art. she was one of my firts mutuals on twst tumblr and i was terrified of talking to people but her vibes were very much "i am nice you dont need to be afraid" and sniffling scared me was like "OKAY I CAN TALK TO YOU" LMAO but yeah. she draws people so,,, full. thats the only word i can use to describe it. they just look s soft and alive and its really so amazing. i love her art so much!!

@siphoklansan is another artist!! i think about the art she drew from loona's heart attack with twst character weekly basically. it has been stuck in my brain since i started following her. sippy, its trully beautiful how you mix your culture and your art together. i remember you talking about it when you were drawing fairy gala stuff and it was just stunning. please keep doing what you're doing!! i hope your hiatus proves restful <3

@ceruleancattail is one of THE most creative writers i have ever met on this platform. every time i check out their account theyre talking about a new au or doing something different. they write x reader stuff and ar ethe biggest cater kisser ever (even if they wont admit it hehe!!) their writing is so refreshing, if that makes sense. their butler au is so goofy whaahwwahwah

@moonlit-midnight has the prettiest writing style :((( hannah is literally so sweet and it shows in everything you can find on this blog. THIS BLOG HAS PLATONIC FICS TOO!!!! DID YOU KNOW THAT?????? and even better, they're inspired by hannah's own friendships :((( literally the most wholesome thing. you can find x reader's here!!!

@iseethatimicy is an x reader writer and fellow azul kisser!!! she writes some really cute stuff for oour favorite silly little cephalopod AND AND AND AND HAS SOME OCS!!! THATA ARE SUPER COOL!!!!! shimiko and icy are both so cool and interesting 9EVEN THOUGH IM VERY SHIMIKO BIASED AAAAA I LOEV SIREN TROPES !!!!!)

@ryker-writes IS SO KIND. he gave me the sweetest set of flowers for his garden event :(( i still think about them and aaaaa i havent forgotten when he fought me over me being cool LMAO so goofy wahhwaawh!! @totallymem3 draws occasionally and omgggg meme's art is gorgeous. @z3llous is SO TALENTED!!!! another mutual that im liek WOW how do you exist??? he creates the most stunning twst fanart :((( THE OCTAVINELLE BIAS IIS SO REAL AND SO SO OBVIOUS BUT WOW.....WOW IS IT GOOD. zell is also a game developer and if you like cute little kitties and adventure games you should totally try it out here!!!

@cecilebutcher MAKES THE BEST OCS. creator of igor and saver of the universe. im not kidding igor saved the universe IDC WHAT YOU SAY ITS CANON TO ME. cece i sliterally the sweetest and soososososo creative i am eating up every crumb of igor content i get fed. OM NOM NOM. ofc junto is nice too and hes so sweet!!! GAHH you just put so much love and care into yoru ocs its so admirable :((((

@ang33333333l is another azul kisser that i became mutuals with a while ago!!! dolls love for sebek and azul is very sweet to see and her yuusona fauna is adorable too!! she also draws her yuu and characters sometimes!! :D she doesn't have a lot of oc content up on dolls blog yet but im looking forward to seeing more!! >:D

@leonistic deserves the most underrated writer of the year award. soru writes x reader content and is another super sweet mutual of mien (I KNOW IM SAYING THAT A LOT OKAY.) she writes aroace content and its literally feeds me. seriously. their aroace azul content makes me giggle and kick my feet and GAHHHHH !!! plus they have the patient to do matchups which is crazy and i love them for that ^^

@rains-asleep is the nickname master because he calls me straubs and thats such an adorable nickname :(((( HIS WRITING IS SUPER CUTE AND IT GIVE SME SO MUCH SEROTONIN (they write x readers btw!!!!!) they recently hit 500 followers (CONGRATS AGAIN!!!!!) and they also write for haikyuu, mha, genshin impact, and obey me!!!

@shinysparklesapphires is an artists that has a lot of cool ocs!! i believe navi was the first one i was introduced to and he's such an icon ^^ sapphy is also really into precure and produces a lot of content for the fandom!! i have yet to finish the precure series she recommended to me but its good so far and laura is the best so true!!

@datboredpencil has THE most STUNNING art. if you want idia x cater content this is DEFINITELY THE BLOG FOR YOU!!! each piece has so much love poured into it and i swear. YOURE ALWAYS LIEK "its a work in progress" BUT IT STILL LOTS SO LOVELY :((( YOUR USE OF COLOR IS JUST SO MUAH!!! CHEFS KISS!!!!!!! I ADORE IT

@twistwonderlanddevotee makes really pretty backgrounds!!! i actually used the isaac one she made for my private account AND ITS SO CUTE I LOVE IT I WANT TO EAT IT SWALLOW IT WHOLE MUNCH ON IT SHAKE IT AROUND LIEK A DOG TOY ANYWAYS. i am very normal about sofia's backgrounds. PLEASE GO CHECK THEM OUT its literally so unique?? like who else makes backgroudns liek sofia. Nobody.

@dove-da-birb IS SUCH A GENIUS. they're one of my closests friends and their writing is SO BEAUTIFUL. they're also kidn of a little shit though so watch out /aff tehy write x reader content and draw sometimes, although i dont think theyve posted any of them. ^^ dove is SUCH a delight i promise you'll have fun every single time you talk to them. their energy is infectious and im genuinely really glad im the main target for their chaos. i would not have it any otehr way.

@ashipiko has such delicious art!!! the colors are always so vibrant and the way she draws is so unique. truly, a staple of both the twisted wonderland and as3! fandoms!! her energy is always upbeat and cheery, its hard not to smile when youre talking to her!! truly the biggest ace kisser on thsi platform (probably in the world too hehe)

@shyhaya writes for a myriad of fandoms!!!!!! hayami writes an azul thing for me that made me lose my mind IT WAS SO GOOD. @thehollowwriter has so many gems. quinn writes every character in twst so well, teh writing is so immersive and just ughhhh MUAH!!!!! every piece with azul in it is such a banger and it makes me giggle and kick my feet :3 LITERALLY THERE IS SO MUCH X READER FLUFF AND ITS ALL GOOD ITS A CRIME I DIDNT FIND THIS BLOG SOONER.

@cyath, who has some of the PRETTIEST art i have EVER seen. they draw stuff based on my fics all of the time and i adore it so much. examples of their art can be found here, here, here, and here. do you understand what i mean. do you get it. their art style is SUPERIOR and i ADORE IT!!!!!! they truly have so much talent like damn save some for the rest of us hello!!!!!

Still in 2010 (July)

Merlin sat on the floor by his bed, a notebook balanced on his knees and a pen clutched in his hand. The soft glow of a bedside lamp cast a warm light over the pages filled with his neat, precise handwriting. He was lost in his thoughts, completely absorbed in the words flowing from his pen. The silence of his small apartment was punctuated only by the occasional scratch of the pen against paper.

Suddenly, a voice broke through the quiet, startling him. "Have you lost your damn mind!?"

Merlin jerked. The pen stilled in his hand as he lifted his head up, his wide eyes meeting the gaze of the speaker. His breath caught in his throat, a mixture of shock and confusion playing across his face.

It was Morgana, standing in the doorway, her eyes blazing with anger. Her sudden, furious question had shattered his focus entirely. Merlin felt his pulse quicken, his mind scrambling to process her words and her presence.

Should he be happy that, unlike their usual pattern of years apart, it hadn't taken an eternity for them to meet again this time?

Mere months instead of half centuries.

He needed to focus, he could be happy later for now needed to know why she was angry.

"I—uh, what?" he stammered, blinking rapidly. He took a moment to push himself up from the floor. "What are you talking about?"

Morgana’s eyes narrowed, her hands clenched into fists at her sides. "You know exactly what I'm talking about," she said, her tone icy. "You’re delving into black magic. You know how dangerous that it…"

His eyes widened further, “How did you know?”

The moment he uttered the words, he instinctively grasped the answer.

It was Aithusa. He should have known better especially after what Morgana had told him last time they had seen each other.

The dragon cared too much about him.

How much did the dragon share?

Morgana took a deep breath, her anger giving way to a deeper hurt. “Why would you do this? Why would you care?”

Everything, it seemed.

Merlin’s shoulders sagged, the weight of the truth pressing down on him. “You know why. I just want to find a way to keep you safe…” He felt a lump form in his throat, “Even if your magic is what’s keeping you alive and preventing your body from aging, you can still get hurt, you can still…”

He gained extensive knowledge about the rituals Aithusa had conducted to save Morgana’s life and he came to the realization that without magic, Morgana was constantly at risk.

It was truly miraculous that she had survived all these years.

Morgana took a deep breath, her anger giving way to a deeper hurt. “…die.” She finished for him. “I didn’t ask you to do this.”

He opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out. He just nodded his head. It was all that he could do.

Though she hadn't explicitly requested it, given the immense pain he had caused her and the suffering he had subjected her to over the years, he felt compelled to do everything in his power to keep her safe.

It seemed like the least he could offer—protecting her.

It might not have been much, but if it meant using black magic to restore her abilities, wasn't it justified?

Tears welled in her eyes as she shook her head, the pain evident in her expression. Once again, he was causing her anguish, unintentionally inflicting hurt even when he didn't intend to.

“How do you think that makes me feel, Merlin?” She asked, then she was quiet for a few seconds before adding, “If this is about you being alone...We have talked about this, Merlin. Forget about the past. You need to move on. Go out, make new friends and get a job,find a girl, and ask her on a date-”

“It’s not about that.” He gently interjected to redirect the conversation. He didn’t know why Aithusa had sought Morgana yet again despite his orders.

He sympathized with the dragon's concern, but it was becoming excessive, particularly considering Morgana's reluctance to meet with him. He didn’t want to force her to do something she was uncomfortable with.

She had made it clear to him that his mere presence was enough to upset her and he was determined to respect her wishes of staying away.

Morgana shot him a sceptical glance, silently conveying her disbelief in his words.

“I am not. Truly.” He insisted, feeling unease discussing this with Morgana, “In fact, I have a date tomorrow. She wanted…We’re going to see a film.”

In the blink of an eye, her expression transformed from one of hurt to a playful grin, leaving him bewildered by the rapidity of her emotional shift. She sensed the subtle tension in the air when he corrected himself.

“A film? What is it called?”

He shouldn’t tell her. Or better yet, he should just lie.

“Twilight something. She said it was the third one.”

Despite her best efforts to conceal it, a mischievous sparkle danced in her eyes, betraying the amusement she was desperately trying to suppress. Her grin grew wider.

He should not have told her. And most importantly, why were they deflecting?

They had an imperative matter to discuss other than this.

“How old is she?”

He gave up, “Old enough to know better.”

Morgana burst into laughter, the sound echoing through the room. However, Merlin, though trying to maintain his composure, couldn't hide his annoyance, his eyes narrowing slightly as he attempted to stifle his own smile.

He missed that sound.

He pondered whether she shared the same sense of isolation as he did, but he understood he could never broach that topic with her. She had made it clear she didn't want him to delve into her inner world. Even the prospect of rekindling their friendship felt like an insurmountable barrier for her.

At the moment, he resigned himself to her playful teasing, hoping to persuade her to explore alternative methods for freeing her magic at a later time. “You clearly heard of them, so don’t be like that!”

“Have you watched the first two?”

“No…” He shook his head. Did he have to?

“Well, you need to be prepared. We’re going to watch the first two tonight.”

Inspired by @mail-me-a-snail's silvervance playlist, i wanted to yell about lil v's playlist!

First up we have: Sleeping On The Ceiling - Friday Pilots Club

there's a lot of lines from this song that fits really well with lil V's outlook, his manic energy, his willingness to crash and burn and his tendency to cut people off for it. he's even trying to convince others it's better to just leave him to his own devices ("Don't you feel just like you're floating now? When you cut me off and let me go.") it's an effort to feel okay about his situation that works 90% of the time. the song's also insanely short, like his lifespan!

Steal from the Rich, Give to Myself - Simon Viklund // Destruction - Joywave

Lil V's a merc and he doesn't mind all the blood on his hands or his career choice in general. He does, however, mind it when people try to guilt him about it and say he could 'be better'. Takemura, Hellman and Arasaka's attempts of trying to steer him--be it to give his life up to restore some so-called honor or to give his head full of data up for so-called science-- were met with his knee-jerk reaction of 'FUCK CORPOS!' so naturally by the end when he realized Hanako can't do jackshit for him either, he's pretty down with torching Arasaka Tower. Then again, this might be because he's already influenced by Johnny which brings us to the next section:

There was a point where Lil V's not sure about what Johnny's trying to do, what to think of him (ghost? man? terrorist? friend? enemy??). there's the obvious instinctual fear that Johnny's just puppeteering him from the inside out. Eventually Lil V decides that even if Johnny is influencing him to do stuff it doesn't count as Johnny manipulating him if he agreed to it. Johnny might be a storm but V's the sigh on a hurricane etc etc. Chippin' In is there cus out of all the SAMURAI songs we get to listen to, that's Lil V's favorite.

Used to be My Girl - TLSP

this, to me, is THE song to describe Johnny and V. Two way mirror, one-way street? Good cop, bad cop routine? Johnny being a liar and a leech, V who cheated death and is a thief? Alt mentioning that for all of Johnny's bark, he's just code as an engram and therefore 'nothing underneath'? The way if you do dont fear the reaper, V gives up his chances at love and does a spite-fueled-solo attack that Johnny wholeheartedly endorse?? The way both of them are dead already? woowee!

Mr. Sunshine - Ynxgxr1 // mr. sunshine - Arden Jones

inside you are two wolves moment. sometimes being everyone's ray of sunshine doesn't work out for lil v. "All jokes til' I start feeling like the punchline." is the key line here (and also in his personality in general)

Cha Cha Cha (Electronic Metal Remix) - Elxctro Drxgon, Käärijä

i made this playlist around the same time this song was makin the rounds. I liked the whole fast-paced sort of edgy facade fading away on the bridge for a bit when the 'narrator' starts getting drunk and becomes himself, which I think is a lot like how after his first death by Dexter DeShawn, Lil V was much more comfortable in his own skin. Also, metal remix version cus I think it fits his vibes more than the original one. Lil V's a pop-punk sort of guy!

Miracle Aligner - TLSP // Dangerous - Big Data, Joywave

i call this part 'Little V is inherently kind and gets a little scared of being loved, but doubles down and loves people harder about it'. Johnny is his best victim, considering even in canon Johnny's said how he's surprised with how V's stuck with him for 24/7 and he's still a friend.

Baby Boy - Mother Mother // Johnny - American Murder Song // Pumped Up Kicks - Foster The People

this part is more Johnny than lil V, but it does work as how lil V views him. sure ol' Robert John's got some issues, but wouldn't you be upset too if you died angry and alone, and nobody even bothered to dig a grave for you? lil V genuinely thinks Johnny's fun to be around with, just got to power through his cigs and his shittalking is all. it's why he lets johnny get away with A Lot.

Rome Falls - Panicland // All I Have is My Smile - LIL DUSTY G

by the end of their run, lil v has accepted that he'd be dead trying to do the solo raid and he's made peace with it which makes the next part a big Yikes

A Kiss - THE DRIVER ERA // The Edge - Panicland

he dug himself a too perfect of a grave with Johnny, one that he can't use once he climbed out of Mikoshi alone. and nobody gets why he's upset that he didn't get his ending that night because isn't it great that you're alive, V? that Johnny's gone now? that you have a second chance again? eventually he just cuts his ties and distances himself, basically surviving for the sake of it while hoping he'll actually find a better lead that changes his mind

This Must Be the Place - Talking Heads

lil v at his core's just a streetkid desperate for a home, one that he keeps finding and losing in certain intervals. i like to think that even though he doesn't survive for very long after Mikoshi, he'll find something that change his mind and he finds his way back home in the end :)

There's a couple songs i didn't put in this essay, mainly there on the playlist for the cyberpunk-ish lyric vibes or because they were part of the OST that i imagine lil v actually listens to on the radio. (or also cus i made a fic/edit with them in mind) In Cold Blood's opening with binary for example, feels very cyberpunk-y so i stuck it in. other songs like Jealous Guy is put in as a SilverV-ish song cus even though Johnny and lil V aren't romantic, Johnny still hates sharing. but anw ive rambled enough so woe. OC LORE ESSAY BE UPON YE.
