hey i'm making this post on behalf of a longtime mutual/friend, nate, who's largely moved offsite. he's visibly trans and lives in knoxville + has been subject to an immense amount of escalating transphobia over the years; with recent political shifts in the us as a whole and tennesee in particular, it is getting genuinely too dangerous for him to stay. he's trying to move to live with his partner at the end of the year

about me:
hi! i'm saran (any pronouns). i spend 99% of my free time writing, thinking about writing, making playlists for my writing, rotating my other obsessions in my head (currently jak & daxter; voiceplay; and motionless in white), and sometimes spewing those on my blog as well. this is my primary blog (i can barely keep up with this one, so a sideblog is not likely in the near future), so be aware that you'll see everything that spills out of my head/crosses my blog that i feel like sharing. if you're just here for the writing, that's cool, too! all of my original writing is tagged #my writing, and all longform works and snippets are tagged with their titles. i'm open to tag games, asks, and dms for anything and everything, even if you just need to talk 💜
about the writing:
i both read and write most genres, but fantasy and speculative fiction are my favorite (with a heavy dose of monsters and the paranormal, whether the genre otherwise calls for it or not). i write both original fiction and fanfiction. my main characters tend to be queer, neurodiverse, disabled, or all of the above. i write with an adult audience in mind (my writing has a tendency to delve into heavy topics, including mental health issues and societal commentary, and several of my stories contain graphic violence), so while minors are welcome to follow, i would encourage you to self-curate your experience. i try to tag anything potentially triggering, but i am human and sometimes miss things; if you notice anything that you think needs a tag, please do let me know!

You know the term “Colonizers” being used today
I know it because Black Panther popularized it, but do people forget that the villain Killmonger WAS the colonizer in the film?
He became the cia favorite agent in American imperialism, and in the movie, killed T’Challa, burned their sacred plant, and stated he was going to create a Wakandan EMPIRE after slaughter people in power including their fucking children.
How…how did the left miss the most spoon-fed shit Disney can throw at you. And go with the idea colonizer=white people despite the underlying joke is that Shuri (who said it to the white guy that took a bullet to save a Wakandan) say that insult because she was on the internet too much.
I appreciate how anal retentive @siryouarebeingmocked is about tagging and cataloguing things, even if you don't agree with his conclusions it's always through.
This is just 2 obviously but, there's almost every kind of analysis you could possibly want, just search Killmonger, or any of the characters probably.
Both of those posts I linked go deeper into what your ask was, I don't have the knowledge base to touch on it too much, never saw the movie, I DO know where to find the info tho.

A note on coverage of The Murderbot Diaries
This one's perhaps even more of a departure from the initial expectations of the blog than the Neverending Story was, but all good things are... subject to change? No, that makes it sound like it's not as good.
The Murderbot Diaries are a series by Martha Wells, about a security construct (SecUnit, the name for the designated model type and, by extension, the name used by most of the people Murderbot encounters) that broke its own governor module (think DRM) and functions independently, though it pretends it's still good locked-down company property. It exhibits strong symptoms of social anxiety, making it one of the most relatable robots ever, and accidentally makes friends.
Murderbot itself has no gender. The audiobook narrator is Kevin R. Free, and the subject doesn't come up very often in the story, so a lot of people assume and assign masculinity. Despite that, Murderbot is and knows it is a construct accessorized with the most expedient biological parts, expresses no human gender, and uses it/its pronouns. This just doesn't get clarified until much later in the series, if at all, and I'd rather have everyone understand it up front so nobody accuses me of object-ifying a person who literally personally identifies as an object.
I think this series is really neat. It's so much an exploration of personhood, like your average robot story but with mental illness. Heck, don't mind if I make references all the way back to Rossum's Universal Robots, the (extremely readable or watchable! highly recommended by me) stage play that is the origin of the word itself in its modern context, or perhaps further back all the way to Frankenstein. Murderbot is in conversation with two hundred years of science fiction exploring what it means to be, and besides that, I think it does some really interesting things with the prose.
So, with the newest book coming out in a couple of months, I decided to merge my desire to reread it with my desire to pick it apart under a microscope the way this project allows. We'll be covering more or less in release date order, with the exception of the expanded edition of Compulsory recently released going back to back with the original to compare and contrast.
So please, instead of peace this time, give Murder(bot) a chance, and join me on this space adventure.

why do i have the urge to do other stuff– something that is not acad related, whenever i need to study or do school works ;;
watching a stardew valley farm tour while cutting index cards and making mini flashcards! i have very small handwriting (my instructor said it is microscopic lmao) so i decided to cut 4x6 index cards into four, but i found myself trying to make my handwriting bigger :']
