Machete has parents?? I'm not familiar with their actual lore, so I've been imagining Machete as a desolate victorian orphan boy
Everyone has parents, he didn't materialize out of thin air (or evolve from a crumpled napkin).
But he lost contact with them early on and doesn't remember much of anything about them. Machete was a sickly kid and his family was going through a rough patch at the time, they were constantly struggling to find the time and funds to care for him. Child mortality was high and it was starting to look increasingly likely that he wouldn't make it. He was around three or four when they left him at the closest monastery that accepted foundlings and he hasn't heard of them since.

💘 for the writing game!
Hello! I definitely have to thank you for this prompt because I think it might be my favorite of all the fills I got to write for this meme (although I maybe got a little carried away) <3
Call this one a modern AU, probably. CW: emotional abuse, briefly mentioned homophobia, Steve just has a shitty family
💘 fake relationship / mutual pining / dared to kiss
Prompt from this list
-
So Eddie’s maybe been laying it on a little thick.
That’s his excuse, anyway.
It’s just – it’s possible he’s gotten a little carried away; while the idea had been for him to accompany Steve for moral support to the annual three days of torture that are his visits home for Christmas, Eddie’s priorities had shifted a little with the last phone call he’d overheard Steve taking from his mom.
Something-something-I hope you’ve found someone to bring home with you, Steven-something-something-your cousin already has a baby on the way-something-something-such a disappointment to see you alone, Steven-something-something.
Steve had looked so small and sad after talking to her, the way he always does after talking to her, and Eddie wishes his parents’ approval (or lack thereof) didn’t hold such a sway over Steve, not when they don’t deserve that kind of respect, but he also gets it – family is complicated. So instead, Eddie offers Steve a way to shove his parents’ faces in it.
Instead of showing up in a strictly platonic, friendly-like capacity, he offers to play Steve’s boyfriend for the holiday.
And since Steve is the same brand of crazy as Eddie (even if he buries it better), he accepts.
So from the moment they pull up in front of the Harrington house the morning of December twenty-fourth, Eddie plays the doting boyfriend to a tee. He holds Steve’s hand, he kisses him on the cheek, he snuggles up to him on the sofa; he plays nice with Steve’s homophobic grandfather, and is only a little snarky with Steve’s patronizing uncle, and talks Steve up every chance he gets.
So yes, he’s laying it on a little thick, but Steve’s family should think he has a partner who adores him.
Because Steve deserves a partner who adores him.
(Because Eddie does adore him. Which is – well, that’s probably part of the problem.)
It doesn’t work as well as Eddie had hoped it would, in the end. Steve’s family can’t fault him for being “pathetically single” anymore, but they can pick him apart in literally every other respect – and they do.
He takes it like a pro, letting the nasty, pointed comments roll off him, smooth and brittle as glass, never causing a scene or biting back, because it’s Christmas and apparently this is just how they celebrate.
(They mostly ignore Eddie, acting like he’s beneath them, which has Steve sending apologetic glances his way the whole day, like Eddie is the one who needs an apology when Steve is the one being vivisected by his family.)
Steve just holds in whatever he’s feeling until they’ve retired for the night, up in the guest room that used to be his room, that his mom had apparently barely waited until he’d moved out to start converting.
He holds it in and holds it in until the door shuts behind them and he all but collapses on the edge of the bed, crumpling in on himself like the ugly plaid duvet is crumpling underneath him, with his shoulders curved in and his face covered and his chest heaving with what are maybe supposed to be calming, deep breaths but are definitely not working, because the stress is still coming off him in waves.
And like Eddie said: he’s maybe gotten a little carried away with his role, but it just feels completely normal to go right to Steve, to curl his arms around him and pull him in close and remind him that his family’s opinions aren’t worth shit and that Steve is so good, and–
And when Steve uncovers his face, a little blotchy and pulling tight with the effort not to let any tears flow free, it just feels completely normal to press a kiss to his cheek, and another to the corner of his mouth, and another to his lips, all in quick succession, all soft and reverent and reassuring.
Eddie freezes the moment he’s pulled back. The moment he realizes what he’s just done.
“Eddie,” Steve murmurs into the still air between them, “there’s… no one watching right now.”
You don’t have to do this, he means.
“I–” Eddie’s voice gets caught up in his throat, because his brain is screaming at him to play it off, to tell Steve that he just got carried away, got too into the role – but his heart, noisy fucker that it is, has different ideas. “I… maybe haven’t been faking as much as I said I was. Or, like– at all.”
“Oh, thank god,” Steve breathes, and then he’s pushing back in for another kiss, his mouth eager and warm and perfect against Eddie’s.
And the next two days aren’t going to be any less stressful, spent around a flock of hungry vultures masquerading as people, but Eddie figures that if nothing else, at least one good thing will have come from the holiday.
He tilts his head to deepen the kiss and Steve opens up beneath him, anticipating him like they’ve been doing this for ages, and – yeah, Eddie decides.
One very, very good thing.

(can’t handle change). he’s a decent father, like worse than arthur but he’s ok.
— he works at some like shitty dead end job. he’s trying to get his life 2gether but. it’s hard. he feels like he’s progressing slower than everyone else and is maybe beginning to regret not going to college. he’s down in the dumps, guys. also. he’s in a band.. yeah.. a shitty little band that sounds A LOT… like nirvana, i wonder why

— he is well liked within the community. his employees will genuinely look to him for advice which he finds sweet. he has a close relationship with arthur still and calls him when he can. he and dutch are currently in an argument about the john situation bc hosea figures that dutch coddled john too much. dutch disagrees. dutch sleeps on the couch.

ok hello i have found that i have no choice but to introduce you to my "divorced zukka but slightly to the left" headcanon for a modern au. basically, a pre-transitioned zuko and sokka have a one night stand at the end of their senior year of high school, and never speak again. roughly six years later, sokka is starting his job at an elementary school (not a classroom teacher, like technology or something) and meets izumi, who is so sweet and cute and i swear thats the face katara makes when she's annoyed, and one day happens to see her dad pick up and huh he looks and AWFUL lot like that person i went to high school with and OH GOD some quick math brings an idea to mind.
So sokka attempts to confront zuko who is very much NOPE DO NOT TALK TO ME, but finally breaks down after a series of shenanigans that def do not involve mild stalking. but only to admit that yes, izumi is sokka's biological daughter, and would like to leave their interactions at that, except sokka has NO interest in SIMPLY leaving it at that because!!! he has a kid!!! that he knew nothing about!!! for six years!!!
zuko very much would like to continue living his life without sokka bc being a single young parent is hard enough but he has a good routine and good relationship with his daughter and he doesnt need this, this, SPERM DONOR to just come in here and mess everything up! the guy hasnt been there the last six years, there is absolutely no reason for his to get involved now!! BUT sokka absolutely would have been there if zuko had only TOLD HIM, but how was ZUKO supposed to know that, and did zuko really think so little of him?? except it was a one night stand and zuko didnt even realize he was a boy until right after and he originally wasnt even planning to keep izumi, and HOW could he have just given up their CHILD without ever even telling sokka about her and given him a CHANCE to take her, and WE WERE JUST KIDS AND HE WAS SCARED-
its complicated. and involves a lot of trying not to shout around izumi, who is just over the moon that her dad and her favorite teacher know each other outside of school. and there's a lot of heartache over sokka having to come to terms with the fact that yeah, hes not izumis parent, and there's only so much he can do without stepping on zuko's toes, and he only wants what is best for izumi, and zuko seeing that maybe sokka really does want to be all in for izumi even if zuko thinks sokka really doesnt fully understand what that means, and would it be such a bad thing? not that either of them are going to admit this to the other.
so it starts with small things, like sokka being allowed to pay child support (which hes been begging to do since day one), and maybe it turns out that zukos new coworker is sokkas friend and they end up at the same party where they can really see each other interact with izumi, and a chunk zuko's summer child care plans for the summer fall apart so sokka offers to babysit since his summer job is remote which feels BIG but also reallyyyyy too convenient to reject,
and then something bigger happens where izumi gets hurt at school and while sokka is blaming himself he's also panicking bc the hospital wont let him stay with her bc hes not an emergency contact so he steels himself and later tells zuko he wants to make his relationship to izumi legal. hes not going to have a custody fight, he would never ask for that, but he wants his name on her birth certificate and wants his name on her list of emergency contacts, and its the first time zuko understand that sokka 100% knows what he's getting into here and is willing to be in this 100%.
So maybe sokka moves into this "uncle sokka" role, because zuko still refuses to tell izumi that sokka is her other dad, and yeah that hurts, but sokka would rather have part of izumi's life if he can't have all of it. and sokka gets a better look inside their lives and discovers that its HARD being a young single parent, why would zuko have risked everything he worked for to mix in some guy he barely knew who might decide that zuko wasn't good enough and take izumi away? and zuko sees the pain sokka has from missing out on so many key moments of izumi's young life, and the more sokka is proving himself as a second parent, the more guilty zuko feels. they go through some shit together and its more and more evident that sokka doesnt just want to be that fun uncle, but he's ready more than willing to be a PARENT even when it means being the bad guy.
and maybe they start falling for each other a little, because they are starting to have this LIFE together and its not just about izumi anymore its the way zuko rolls his eyes and gets the new fancy ice pack out of the freezer when a limping sokka brings izumi back from the park, and its the way sokka makes zuko genuinely laugh after a long day at work, and its like their lives are getting fully intertwined-
except that they arent. and they couldn't. because if sokka decides its too much. because if zukos good favor runs out. if it didnt work out between them. they couldnt do that to izumi. what they have is good, its fine, (even if its not enough) they dont want to risk anything that could disrupt izumi's life. shes the priority. and sure, she's already asking questions about the two of them, but what if they don't work right in a real relationship? the way things are now, either of them could back out, and everyone would eventually be ok. maybe. except every time they think about the possibility, it seems like they are already too intertwined, and either of them trying to untangle would just be a disaster, so imagine if they HAD to untangle, and-
so they just end up in an awkward stage of sad pining. because theres no way it would actually work out. because it would hurt all of them. and their life has never been better, but it's never hurt this much either.
ok so i didnt realize i could still write this long in an ask, but essentially i am not a masochist like you, and they do figure it out in the end. this could happen a number of ways, such as izumi just announcing that yeah this is my dad and his boyfriend, or zukka doing the "pining make outs that we never talk about until one of us snaps and we decide to let ourselves be fucking happy", or a very funny "we both snap and bone for one wonderful night to get it out of our system and then we dont talk about it" which leads to an accidental second baby where sokka and zuko both laugh and say whelp it must be fate lets do this the right way this time.
the most important thing is that they both forget to tell izumi that sokka is her biological father, so teenage izumi is very shocked and upset that shes just had to learn this from something totally mundane like applying for a passport, and sokka and zuko do the spider man finger pointing of "i thought you told her" "no, you were supposed to tell her" "did we really not tell her?" and its absolutely disgusting how cute they are
thanks for coming to my tedtalk
i love every single thing about this! sokka wanting to be a part of izumi's life and help zuko out....zuko being reluctant to accept but eventually seeing how sokka is proving himself.....the limbo period where they are both afraid it could end any moment....TOO GOOD! i love every single option for how they could get together for real like this is my favorite take on modern au divorced zukka by far!!!! <3 <3

Could you talk about one of those Doctor Who aus?
Hello! Thank you anon for the ask :) I have a few AUs that I'm currently rotating in my head but my favourite at the moment is the one I just call The Modern AU - it's official name is The Doctor Project but that's not what I call it. This took me a hot minute to write up because it is a lot.
(Also if you wanted to hear about any of my other AUs, I put some brief descriptions in the tags :D)
The basic premise is that the Doctors are all human and a team that worked together for their variety of expertise during the early 2000s to repel an alien invasion and the effect it has on each of them and their general lives. Also the Tardis is there as the only sensible one of the lot.
Some doctors do have more story fleshed out than others, mostly due to the fact that I'm still quite new to a lot of the eu stuff like Big Finish and the books and certain Doctors I would feel better about having engaged with some more of it before getting some proper stories fledged out (mostly because I hope it will give me some more inspiration lol)
I'll put some more general outline below the cut for anyone interested :)
[Warnings: mentions of abuse, discussions of war and the aftermath, complicated relationships to disability, implied torture ]
First Doctor
So the First Doctor is the oldest of the bunch, a retired surgeon and medical doctor (he used to work at Royal Hope Hospital) who was brought into the Doctor project for his research into medicine.
He spent most of the War in London due to his old age making it difficult to run around cities infested with alien invaders but he does get sent out periodically (mostly when one of the others gets too injured to be moved from their current location which happens a few times).
He had a daughter, Gillian, when he was quite young but he and his wife split up, and his daughter spent most of her time with her mother instead. However, he was the one to gain custody of his daughter's daughter (Susan) when Gillian died as his ex-wife had also died.
When the Doctor was conscripted, Susan was about 15 and stayed with their neighbour Steven over the course of the war, and Vicki and Dodo, two girls he fostered as well while their parents were off fighting.
Due to the secure nature of the work that the Doctor Project was doing, she and her grandfather only exchanged a few letters over the course of each year, and they were always heavily edited, and she found herself finding a lot of the emotional support she was lacking from her two teachers at Cole Hill, Barbara and Ian.
When she left Cole Hill Sixth Form, a year before the war ended, she moved back into her grandfather's house but kept in contact with Barbara and Ian who helped her with finding a job and advice on living alone, etc. This would break GDPR and a host of other protection laws these days but it's the middle of an alien invasion, let's pretend that doesn't exist. They didn't know the Doctor at all until after the war when he returns and it's a bit weird for everyone.
Especially since Ian is completely furious at him for leaving his granddaughter alone, mostly because people meet Susan and get the immediate urge to protect her; they do mostly get over that particular hurdle though as more comes out about how the war ended, although the Doctor doesn't help matters much by being his usual grouchy self.
His usual grouchy self made worse by the fact that everything has changed a lot since he had left home. Susan is in training to be a nurse and has these faux-parental figures she trusts so implicitly, and is decidedly more wary around him; he has also been fundamentally changed by living four years in various bunkers while working against an invisible clock to defeat a foe more technologically advanced that they are.
Eventually things do settle down: Ian and the Doctor apologise to each other, Susan and the Doctor have enough heart-to-hearts that it clears the air between them, that sort of thing.
There's not a whole lot of plot to any of the First Doctor's stuff but the vibes and the setting are pretty much in place.
Second Doctor
The second doctor is probably about forty when he's conscripted and he was a physics lecturer at St. Andrews university, specialising in sound and acoustics and waves, that sort of thing. He invented several new versions of sound systems which is what got him noticed for the Project.
St. Andrews is where he meets Jamie, actually, who was working as a guard; they bonded over a mutual love of music, Jamie in particular on the bagpipes, and then over other mutual interests.
I'm imagining they got married before the war (as this is an alternate history anyway, I'm making gay marriage legal earlier because no-one can stop me) when Jamie went on to fight in the army and the Doctor got conscripted into the project. Both of them being in different deployments so regularly meant letter writing was even more difficult.
After the war, the Doctor gives up the whole lecturing thing, as the project had left him with a bad taste in his mouth over the work he had been doing. Instead, he takes his knowledge of music and goes into conducting an orchestra, as well as giving music lessons on the side.
In like...any instrument; he's not even very good at playing a lot of them but he has the technical know-how to make someone else very good at playing them, if they can get past his eccentricities.
Zoe is the first violin in the orchestra who he gives personal tutoring too in a vague attempt to get her to put some feeling into her music. She's technically very brilliant and knows her way around most string instruments with almost military precision, but she was taught in a very wooden way and the Doctor is attempting to bring that out of her.
Victoria, on the other hand, takes piano lessons from him except she's around like four times a week and barely ever actually plays the piano and they always give her supper because her home life is...not the greatest. Her father's very absent and her mother's dead. It's all a bit iffy.
Eventually, Jamie probably calls Social Services who are overstretched in the aftermath of the war as it is, but she manages to find herself to a very nice foster family (the Harris') who make sure she keeps having her piano lessons. Although they continue not to really be piano lessons.
[I feel that I should put a note on Ben and Polly here; they are sort of known to both One and Two as Polly is Barbara's niece (and quite close to her aunt) and Ben is Two's half brother (but not that close all things considered) - they are the sort of people who come around for birthdays and Christmas and the one off weekend, and give you very thoughtful advice and presents, but that's sort of the limit of your relationship with them.]
Third Doctor
The Third Doctor studied chemistry at university, trying out multiple different branches, and had managed to get noticed for a variety of things such as creating a few new medications, discovering the compounds of some rarer chemicals, that sort of thing (I will admit, I don't know what makes a chemist famous).
Sarah Jane is his younger sister by about twenty years: when she was younger, she had a bit of a hero worship of him going on but nowadays she's much more sensible.
He worked at Cambridge with Liz before the war, and a lot of the breakthroughs they made together; they (and by they I mean the Doctor has while Liz is facepalming in the background) have a bitter rivalry with the Oxford researcher Emil Masters (the Delgado Master).
They are married but they keep that out of their professional rivalries.
After the war, however, the Doctor stays with UNIT. He's the only one of the doctors to do this and it's mostly because he doesn't trust that unit won't make terrible decisions with the research the Doctor Project produced, so he stays as a Scientific Advisor and pokes his nose into everyone's business to keep his conscience clean.
Jo is his assistant as per canon, only now she is being invited around for supper four times a week at his house and is probably inheriting everything that both the Master and the Doctor own when they eventually die.
They turn up to her wedding to Cliff when her parents don't.
Once again, this is incredibly vibes based rather than very much plot; there's probably going to be something to do with Jo falling out with her family, but that's about as far as I got with it. It's mostly fluff at this point lol.
[Also a note about the incarnations of the Master: while the doctors aren't actually related, the incarnations of the Master are because I find that entertaining, and also there are less of them]
Fourth Doctor
The Fourth Doctor is an environmental activist before the war! He got a PhD in ecology and then proceeded to throw away a promising career in academia (his parents' words) to gallivant around the planet doomsday prophesying.
What he's actually doing is blackmailing people into implementing climate saving machines, etc. so that he isn't Doomsday prophesying; he actually meets Sarah doing this because they both get thrown in prison for getting nosy around a nuclear power plant and thus is the start of a beautiful friendship/relationship, it's really unclear to everyone else.
He has two sisters; Winifred (although everyone calls her Fred) who is Romana I, and Romana who is Romana II. Romana turns 18 just before the war and Fred turns 25 around the same time, while the Doctor is 30ish.
Romana immediately joins MI6 (she had always wanted to be in the secret service) and the Doctor gets roped into the Doctor project, which means that when Fred dies during the war, neither of them get informed for months due to the lack of proper communication channels.
This is something they both feel very guilty about, especially considering the fact that they have two nephews who got immediately lost in the overworked system without any other relative around who could look after them.
Anyway, also during the war, the Doctor gets captured by the aliens, and held for a good few months; he barely ever acknowledges that this ever happened to anyone, even when he is literally hospitalised after rescue. He just...pretends that everything is fine and dandy actually.
His doctor is actually Harry who then gets roped into the whole Very Secret Doctor Project thing for like a month until the Doctor was determined to no longer need constant observation etc and then he's just sent back to his ship.
However, Harry has better communication with home than the Doctor, and also shore leave, so he's sent to basically tell Sarah Jane that the Doctor is alive and alright - they immediately hit it off and so after the war, Harry and she hang out a lot until he's also living in the house with her, the Doctor and their gaggle of foster children (their are a lot of orphans after the war and so the three of them foster).
The actual content of their relationship is debateable - they could be a throuple, it could be that two of them are a couple and the other is third wheeling like a boss, it could be that none of them are romantically involved at all - but they do care for each other a lot.
Also the children are Luke and Sky from SJA and Leela, who's probably about 16. They have a dog, too, called K9 because the Doctor has called every dog he has ever owned since he wasa child K9, and just added a MK on the end; currently they're on Mk IV.
After the war, they just sort of settle back into what they were doing before; Sarah Jane writes for her newspapers and magazines, Harry takes up a civilian doctor's position again at New Hope and the Doctor returns to blackmailing people into Doing Better, only none of them are all that alright after the war and hiding it affects how well they are with other people.
There are some arguments had, mostly with the Doctor and Sarah Jane as Harry is much more mild mannered - with each other, with various siblings, with annoying work colleagues - until they at least admit that something is wrong, and then they go from there.
Fifth Doctor
The Fifth Doctor is the computer guy. He studied computer science at university and as well as developing quite a lot of high level software, he also developed cheaper hardware storage stuff.
With a lack of people I wanted to make him related to, I made him a Cranleigh - I think this was so he could go to boarding school and hate literally everything about it apart from cricket. His notes say that he cuts most communication with his family after going to university so they're not that important to the story.
During the war, he gets caught under a collapsing building at one point which causes nerve damage to his spine which affects the communication between his legs and his brain, periodically causing the connection to short out and his legs to collapse; the collapsed building also means that he can get quite a lot of pain in his legs, and should really be using crutches (only he forgets to bring them with him a lot).
Before the war, he works for some sort of big tech company who fund a lot of his research but after the war he doesn't particularly want to do research any more - nor work for a big tech company - and goes on to lead the IT department at Royal Hope. Which consists of Turlough (who is there because he needs a job after school and he heard that IT jobs were really easy actually) and possibly a few other characters (I've heard of some that exist in audio format, so when I get there, I may edit this).
He also fosters two kids in the aftermath of the war: Adric, who's mother was Fred and who's older brother died in the time that they were lost in the foster system, and Nyssa, who's father Tremas Masters (the Ainley Master) got imprisoned for murdering both of his wives and very sweetly asked his old university roommate if he might very kindly look after her for him.
Tegan is Nyssa's girlfriend and is subsequently always around at their house, to the point that the Doctor just gave her a key and makes supper expecting that she'll be there.
As for Peri, she and the Doctor meet at the local garden centre, and now she comes around to help look after his garden because her apartment is too small for a proper one (she and Six keep saying that they're saving up for an actual house but that might be a commitment too far).
There are the inklings of an actual plot idea I had here? In my head, somehow the Master escapes prison and intends on escaping the country with his daughter, only the Doctor is like no??? You can't do that to Nyssa??? And someone gets hospitalised.
[A note about Royal Hope, and also Cole Hill, and other reoccurring places: occasionally, the characters coincidentally working at these places is an actual coincidence, but the rest of the time it's because the Tardis has a lot of sway with people and she is always pushing the doctors and their friends to work in similar places so that they actually talk to each other again.
Or something like that. Honestly it's just plot contrivance because I like putting them in the same working environment, it makes it easier for me]
Sixth Doctor
The Sixth Doctor studies law and philosophy, being a lawyer both before and after the war. He's a really good one too, just really obnoxious.
I don't have a lot for the Sixth Doctor yet because I know he has a few audios that I want to listen to for some ideas, but I am very fond of the two seasons we got of him so here's what I have:
Peri meets the Doctor because he represents her in court when she's fighting her stepfather over something; after the court case (which they win) they go out for a few dates, and even though he's obnoxious and incredibly big-headed, he's also weirdly sweet and gentlemanly and so they get together officially.
Then the war starts and the idle talk they had of getting married/getting a house gets pushed aside while the Doctor joins the project and Peri helps with farm work by using her botany to develop crop something or other.
The war really did affect the Doctor. When he was younger, he suffered from Bipolar Depression but got it under control with medication and therapy, but the war and it's aftermath dragged that out of the depths which definitely put an extra strain on his and Peri's relationship.
When it's really bad, he did try to strangle her (like in the show) which did cause her to leave; but she does come back eventually, after the Doctor calls to apologise, and he does get it back under control.
At some points, it's really not the healthiest relationship, but it doesn't stay like that forever; it's something I really want to get into with my writing and I have the outlines of a fic over the period that he and Peri spend sort of separated.
On a lighter note, some of the other characters of the era! The Master keeps appearing on his doorstep after escaping prison looking for help and the Doctor keeps refusing to give it because he did try to kill Five; he once is a prosecutor against the Rani for unethical experimentation and she straight up sends a hit out against him; the Valeyard is his coworker who hates the Doctor a lot more than the Doctor hates him; and Mel is straight up just his personal trainer at the gym who got WAY too invested in his life.
Seventh Doctor
The seventh doctor is a high level tactician for the MOD before the war, and is actually one of the ones to help collect the other doctors together. He actually continues to do his MOD job while doing the Doctor Project which means he's the only doctor to really have a good understanding of what's happening around the world in real time.
However, he doesn't really have anyone to write home about. He grew up in foster care and it took a lot of effort to get to where he was at the outbreak of war, and so he didn't exactly have that many friends about.
The exception to that is Mel who he grew up with in part and so he does send her the odd letter.
After the war, he gets made redundant by the MOD and goes on to become a PE teacher at Cole Hill; he always dresses like he might be lecturing on politics or history, and stands on the sidelines while watching the students. Or he actually lectures on history or politics; honestly the amount of PE that's done is reliant on the mood.
He also ends up living with Ace; officially, she's his foster daughter, but she's so fiercely independent that she insists that they're roommates and he was willing to accept that.
I wish I did have more for him but I'm hoping that as I get through the Audios and books and such like, I'll get a better understanding of his era and the characters around it to make something a bit more developed.
Eighth Doctor
I'm only eight or so audios into this doctor's travels with Charley, and I have yet to read the Eighth Doctor Adventures (although I am looking to) so this isn't at all a complete section.
The Doctor is an expert in psychiatry and neuroscience, specifically in memory, mostly due to his own issues with memory throughout his childhood.
I'm still debating what the actual cause of the memory issues are, but I'm thinking that it might be because he had epilepsy as a child that was believed to have gone as he grew into adolescence but returned due to one (or multiple) head injuries during the war. I know there are certain types of epilepsy that can really affect the memory.
Either way, the Doctor also seems to be a bit of a romantic and very easily swept up in someone else's life; I see him, before the war, having a disastrous marriage to Grace Holloway which breaks down over four years of not seeing each other and ends in divorce as Grace returns to the states.
After the war, I think that he rents out the rooms in his house which is how he meets Charley, but that's about as far as I can really go with other relationships in his life because I haven't seen anything else of his stuff.
Ninth Doctor
The Ninth Doctor is an expert in mechanical engineering and is the one who does the main body of creating the Moment (the thing that takes out the alien invader's mothership).
He is the son of the War Doctor who's the General who Seven went to with his idea of creating a project to end the war, and the one who officially leads them. He mostly raised the Doctor single-handedly but was not exactly the most caring man in the universe.
The Doctor has a lot of very complicated feelings about his father which don't really get resolved because he (the War Doctor) sacrifices himself to set off the Moment.
Anyway, the Doctor never really wanted to get into Academics and become some sort of fantastic mechanical engineer but his father really pushed it (especially when it became clear the Doctor would never join the army); so after the war, he becomes a sort of freelance mechanic and works with Mickey.
Which is where he meets Rose. Rose often comes to visit Mickey at the end of his shifts because they're friends and live close together, and so she and the Doctor meet regularly there until they are both like...want to go travelling?
Rose was 19 when the war started, and runs the Bad Wolf magazine which she basically created at the beginning as a sort fo morale booster and also because she didn't like how the newspapers were reporting and wanted to make something that wasn't filtered through a hundred government filters; Sarah Jane actually writes for it during the war and on occasion afterwards, and is quite a good friend of Rose's for all that they don't see each other face-to-face all that often.
Still, after the war, sales of Bad Wolf kinda drops off a bit but Rose really loves the magazine and so wants to try something different: she wants to travel so she can see the world, and show people how people are rebuilding and getting their lives back in the aftermath (and help out where she can). She tells the Doctor this and then he offers her his van, and they start travelling together.
They live out the back of his van for years and they're quite happy to do it; they get married in Paris, periodically come back to visit Jackie (who is naturally rather displeased about this life choice they've made - although it's fine because they paid for her to come to Paris for the wedding), and just generally having a good time. They're like van lifers except not obnoxious about it, and when they eventually have Mia, they move back to the UK somewhat permanently (they still travel on holidays) so that she is living somewhere steady and permanent in her upbringing.
We also can't forget about Jack - he was a pilot during the war who also wrote for Bad Wolf, usually entertaining and slightly flirty pieces, and after the war, Rose and the Doctor invited him to travel with them after a few years. When they settle down in London, he moves to Cardiff for a bit on a 'journey of self discovery' where he meets the various Torchwood team (I have to admit I haven't got around to watching Torchwood yet).
He is Mia's godfather (so is Mickey, and Shareen is her godmother) and he dotes on her like no-one's business.
Tenth Doctor
The Tenth Doctor is an expert in anthropology and archaeology. He's Donna's little brother although there isn't much of an age difference between the two of them.
Of all the doctors, he's probably the one I've had the hardest time with.
I know he has a wife who died during the war (I'm thinking that this might be Astrid, for lack of someone better), and that Donna's boyfriend Lee died during the war as well - a lot of people did, during bombings and attacks and that sort of thing - and that with his wife he had a daughter (Jenny) (although I'm also playing around with the idea that he also had a younger daughter, that being Sally - as in Sally from Blink).
In the aftermath of the war, then, he and Donna move in together to help each other out, and eventually their mother and grandfather join them as old age arrives.
Donna meets Shawn in the aftermath and they get on well, and have a very healthy relationship and marriage. On the other hand, we have the Doctor who has the worst situationship ever with Martha.
In the aftermath of his wife's death, he meets Martha who got her medical licence during the war and has been working at Royal Hope since then, and I know that they probably hook up a few times in what is absolutely not recommended.
This is where I get a bit stuck on how things develop from here. I've been getting fonder and fonder of Tenmartha as I think on it more (although Martha does not deserve him) but I do quite like the idea of the two of them coming out of trying to force a relationship and being like...oh we're much better and healthier as friends.
Also, although that epilogue for them came out of nowhere, I do think that Mickey and Martha have a lot of potential as a couple.
There's a lot more I would like to develop here but I shall see what happens as I start writing some more of this.
Eleventh Doctor
The Eleventh Doctor was chosen for his mathematical skill. He's also the youngest of all of them, having just finished his PhD at age 20 as the war broke out.
He's the adopted son of Brian, so Rory's younger brother by a few years, and used to follow him and Amy around like a duckling that had imprinted on the closest moving thing. He did end up going to university quite young (honestly like most of the rest of the doctors) and it's there that he met Strax, Vastra and Jenny who took him under their wing as they were older students.
The war happens before he can really start a job and after the war, he struggles for a bit to find his place, but eventually ends up working with his old university friends in the Paternoster Detective Agency.
Amy and Rory get married after the war - Rory is a nurse at Royal Hope, which he was training for before the war, and Amy is a painter. She always intended on being a model or something like a fashion reporter, but during the war she found painting brought her (and others) the joy that could sometimes be very lacking in such a desperate time.
Her favourite artist is Vincent van Gogh.
They have Melody, although her birth is rife with complications, and so they decide to settle very happily with just the one daughter. She is doted on so completely by everyone, especially her uncle; there's a period when she's like four or five when she is convinced that the Doctor is a secret agent of some sort and gets really into all the spy sort of things.
She makes him play dress up with her and she calls herself River Song because it sounds cool and secret-agenty and the Doctor is her quirky sidekick.
[I debated with putting River Song in as a separate character but I wasn't quite sure what I would do with her? There's potential there for an AU of sorts where she is there, but I unfortunately never quite vibed fully enough with River for her to be a major player in the Main AU]
He lives with the Ponds for a bit after the war, and then moves in with Craig, but when Craig moves out with Sophie, he mopes about it and moves back in with the Ponds.
It's around this time that he meets Clara; she's an English teacher at Cole Hill and her mother went missing nearly five years ago. After trying to get the police to do anything at all, and then saving up the money, she hires the Paternoster gang to find out what happened.
What actually happened is still a bit of a mystery, but she definitely isn't still alive, which the Doctor is the one to tell her the news.
I don't think I'm going to do anything romantic with them but I do think they're quite cute together, so I might dabble. But also I quite like the Doctor being aro and I can see him just living with the Ponds and never leaving.
Twelfth Doctor
The Twelfth Doctor is an astrophysicist. He's spent a lot of his life developing telescopes and astral bodies, but after the war, he mostly just lectures. He's such a longstanding part of St Luke's university that they probably couldn't fire him for anything short of murder.
He's married to Missy quite young, actually, although they never had children; she has spent like half of their marriage in prison though, and now spends most of her time hanging around the Doctor's office being annoying to all his students.
During the war, he did get blinded. It's something he has a complicated relationship with, and does not like it when people mention it around him. He uses a cane when he moves around and wears sunglasses because it hides that his eyes aren't necessarily looking at the person he's talking to.
Again, he has a complicated relationship with it.
Nardole is his teaching assistant, only he's massively overbearing about every aspect of the Doctor's life (only he just manages to be endearing enough that the Doctor doesn't just fire him on the spot).
Bill is, like in canon, someone the Doctor tutors, only now instead of getting to see the galaxy, she has he, Missy and Nardole giving her wildly different yet equally terrible dating advice, which somehow works to get her with Heather.
As for Clara, I genuinely don't know what to do with her; she's such a big part of the Twelfth Doctor's story that I do really want to have her be an important character, but I don't know how. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them!
Thirteenth Doctor
The Thirteenth Doctor is an expert in microbiology. She's a government researcher into disease for the few years before the war, but after the war, she becomes an A&E nurse. She found that she preferred chaos and wanted something that was less science based but still within her interests.
She's fostered by Graham as a child, which is how she knows him, and subsequently how she comes to know Ryan and Grace, when Graham meets them. Her mother was Tecteun who she was taken away from when she was twelve due to the fact that Tecteun was a piece of shit (as in canon).
She wrote a lot to all of them during the war; out of all the Doctors, she probably spent the most writing letters (apart from maybe Six who wrote to Peri...so much, he spent so much time agonising over writing letters to her).
She knew Yaz from school and they both moved to London after the war - they met up again when they both returned from the war, and they decided that a change of scenery from the place they grew up might do them good.
London was one of the main targets during the war so there was a lot of practical work and training to do in both the police force and in nursing (which is what the Doctor wants to go into); they stay in shared accomodation and volunteer to help with the rebuilding effort in some of their free time.
When the rebuilding is mostly finished and everything has started to even out again, they stay in London; the Doctor has a job at Royal Hope and Yaz has found her footing in the local police force. They visit Sheffield a lot though, and invite Ryan to stay with them a lot, so he can get away from all the Old People.
Fourteenth Doctor
The Fourteenth Doctor technically doesn't exist. The Doylist reasoning for this is because there was far too little that separated the Fourteenth Doctor out to make him his own character in a modern AU; the Watsonian is because there was meant to be a Fourteenth member of the Doctor Project but he died in transit to the first meeting. Out of respect, the rest skip over the number that was meant to be his.
I've played around with the idea that the Fourteenth and the Tenth Doctor were siblings/related/possibly twins but I think this might be more of an AU sort of thing.
Fifteenth Doctor
Obviously we haven't had the Fifteenth Doctor's actual first season yet or much of anything for him (very excited for it though) so this is very much a work in progress - I'll make more decisions about his story after the season has come out and I've watched it; from vibes alone though, I think he'd be possibly an expert in sociology, and after the war he would own a club or something similar, where Ruby would get herself a job.
Notes and Stuff
Congratulations for getting this far lol! This AU is very precious to me and gets bigger every time I watch a new episode/listen to a new drama/rewatch/relisten/etc.
There are a few general things I'd probably note: all the Doctors have like...actual names (mostly John or a variation there of) but I refer to them all as the Doctor because that's what rolls off the tongue more easily.
Another thing is Idris/the Tardis - on one hand, the original idea was that she would die and her funeral would be the thing to get the Doctors back together so to say, but the more I think about it, the more I would like her to live.
I'm planning on writing some fic for this AU and posting it to AO3 - there's a Sixperi fic I really want to write, and I'm a sucker for some family fluff with various Doctors - and I might draw some stuff, so stick around if you're interested :)
I've only been really into Doctor who for four or five months, and with such an expansive EU (and frankly, such a lot of main content), there's a lot I don't know (although I very much intend to know it one day). If you got this far, I would honestly love to hear your general thoughts and ideas on the AU, a lot of the Eleventh Doctor stuff I worked out was developed from conversation I had with a friend!
Anyway, thank you for getting this far! And thank you for the ask to let me ramble, it took me a while to get all the rambling together but now I've finished, I'm really pleased I got here.

The Vagueness of an idea for a modern AU based on my Links:
Ages (these are literally the same as in regular Margin Canon):
Paladin: 19
Dawnbringer: 18
Engineer: 18
Forger: 18
Orpheus: 17
Luminary: 17
Fractal: 17
Odysseus: 16
Genesis: 16
Graffiti: 15
Awakener: 12
Familial Relationships:
All the boys grew up in the same neighborhood and that's how they know each other; their community was very tight-knit and so they- along with their Zeldas- grew up together and have all been friends from a very young age. But a few of the boys are more closely related:
Odysseus and Graffiti are brothers, and Genesis is their cousin
Ravio is Graffiti's best friend and they happen to share a birthday
Engineer and Awakener are NOT related but people outside of the group tend to think they are because they look very similar
Awakener (and Aryll), Orpheus, and Paladin are all adopted brothers (and sister in Aryll's case). They live with Grandma (AKA Mrs MacIrvine- it means "Son of Green Water" and is the last name I picked for Awakener and his family since my interpretation of the Great Sea is very influenced by Scotland), who is Awakener and Aryll's biological grandmother. (Paladin and Orpheus were foster children she was taking care of for many years, and when Awakener and Aryll's parents died and she took custody of them, she was like, "Eh, why not officially adopt all of them". At the time, Paladin was 11, Orpheus was 9, Awakener was 4, and Aryll was a newborn)
Transportation:
Paladin can drive, is the designated driver, and runs the group carpool out of his big blue 15-passenger van
Dawnbringer can drive, is the backup driver, and drives his family's ranch's beat-up, rusty pick up truck. How and why it still drives is a mystery and a miracle.
Forger can drive, is the backup-backup driver, and owns a little red Volkswagen Beetle, which he loves very much. No one else can drive it because he won't let them. It also smells very nice because he is addicted to those little clippy Febreze car things.
Engineer can drive but is not often asked to on account of his disregard for any and all traffic laws and speed limits. He does have a car, though: a strange, monster hybrid-car he built himself during his free time Niko and Alfonzo's mechanic shop.
Luminary can, in theory, drive (i.e. he has a license) but does not have a car. He doesn't like driving very much.
Orpheus could, in theory, drive, but he doesn't have a license. This is for two reasons: first of all, both Paladin and Grandma can drive, as can most of his friends, so if he needs to go somewhere far far away he can just ask one of them. Secondly, while he's not extreme about it, he is the most environmentally-minded of the boys and prefers to ride his bike to cut down on carbon emissions.
Fractal has his permit but not his license, as does Odysseus.
Genesis is eligible for his permit but hasn't gone in to get it yet.
Graffiti and Awakener are too young to drive.
Relationships/Relationships to their Respective Zeldas:
Paladin and Valkyrie, who is a little under a year older, have been dating since Junior Year of high school and love each other very much. He plans to propose when he turns 21.
Dawnbringer is good friends with Eos. However, he is still processing that his girlfriend of 3 years, Midna (who was also a close friend of Eos) moved to another city far away about a year prior and, because she didn't want a long-distance relationship to fall apart, thought it better for them to break up.
Engineer is so so in love with Phantasma (who likes him back just as much) but hasn't yet officially started dating her.
Forger and Goddess have been a thing since they were like. 10. and have been officially dating since Sophomore Year of high school. Everyone agrees they are the cutest thing ever.
Orpheus's romantic life is... complicated. He's been inseparable friends with Sonata ever since he moved in with Mrs MacIrvine, and has had a crush on her for many years, but is also slightly attracted to his good friend Malon. He hasn't figured it out yet. But he will, don't worry. Just... give him some time.
Luminary and Sunshine used to not get along, for several reasons that I haven't fully fleshed out yet, but she immediately warmed up to him after he got himself beat up and nearly killed by a gang (the Yiga Clan) while trying to stop them from harassing her as she was walking home from school one day. They've been joined at the hip ever since, even two years later, and she clearly has a thing for him. He's pretty sure he likes her back, but needs to figure out his complicated relationship with his childhood friend Mipha first.
Fractal has been besties with Radiance since they were practically babies. Even during his mental health crisis a few years back, she was always by his side taking care of him. He hasn't yet officially asked her out, but at this point it's a matter of when, not if.
Odysseus and Visionary are in a similar situation to Dawnbringer and Eos, however, tragically, the girl who previously held Odysseus's affections (Marin) didn't just move away, she died in a terrible accident. He's still mourning her and Visionary doesn't want to be insensitve.
Genesis and Dawn have been so so close since they were 10. They have been dating for a little over a year, as they officially started a relationship at 15. Things got a little complicated for a while when Dawn's sister Somnia entertained a brief crush on Genesis, but that ended up resolving itself with no ill-feelings between anyone.
Graffiti has a small but blossoming crush on Iconography, but would never admit it. He's too busy helping Ravio and his girl troubles with Hilda.
Awakener is best friends with Tetra and has a massive crush on her, but will deny it until he's blue in the face. Tetra knows, however, and finds it hilarious, but never picks on him about it. She's still trying to process her feelings about him as well.
A Fun Little Mini-Trivia Tidbit I Wrote
Once, on a weekend trip to Death Mountain National Park, the boys made the mistake of passing the Aux. Here are their music choices, ranked:
Luminary: Vine Audio. Everyone loves this and quotes it in unison, but Paladin had to ban it on account of the number of times he almost crashed the van from laughing so hard he lost focus on the road.
Odysseus: Classical music of all genres. His favorite composer is Tchaikovsky. No one really understands his love for it, but they all appreciate it.
Fractal: Depends on his mood (aka which Color is fronting). Generalizations are Indie Rock, Classic Rock, Video Game Scores, Screamo Metal, and/or Early 2000s Emo and/or Scene Music (shadow). Everyone can appreciate at least one genre, so it's always a safe bet to let Fractal pick the music.
Engineer: Podcasts, usually about Mechanical Engineering or the Industrial Revolution. While it might not be the first choice, the others like it because they're good to nap to.
Forger: Indie Pop, usually love songs. Orpheus finds this sweet, and the rest of them simply tolerate it.
Genesis: Everything under the umbrella of "80s Music". Everyone is indifferent.
Graffiti: Punk. He gives punk-y vibes in this AU, okay. Everyone is indifferent except Paladin, who can't stand it.
Dawnbringer: Country. Everyone but Graffiti dreads it.
Paladin: Silence. The others find it insufferable, but there are two options that are even worse...
Orpheus: He prefers not to listen to music, but rather to attempt to play it on his Ocarina. Notice I say attempt. Everyone- and I do mean everyone- DREADS this.
Awakener: Sea Shanties, full volume, bass boosted, and singing along. Though his singing voice is quite good, when you have been on the road for 3 hours and just want some peace and quiet, this is a horrible combination of factors, and Paladin even went so far as to angrily snap that he'd rather listen to Orpheus play the Ocarina than another round of "Roll Northumbria".

Modern!Ei is not a bad mom and here's why
Her relationship with Scaramouche is complicated and not necessarily black and white. While in Scara's POV, he thinks that she despises him and loves his sister (Raiden) more, it's just misunderstood
Parents will always have a high expectation for their children. I believe that it is in Ei's best interest that she has an good predecessor to her family name, which is why she pushes both her children to be better
As the story in my AU is told in Scara's POV, it seems like she hated him for having emotions like a normal child. However, in reality, Ei was not yet mature enough to raise a child - much less an emotional one - and rushed too hard to adopt one
After losing Makoto, Ei was worried that she would not be a good enough person to follow the family name, so that pressured her into adopting Scara when she was still young
Which is why she panicked, and thought that instead of disciplining Scara, she went the easy way out and had his sister who she thought was easier to raise
She had Raiden through in vitro fertilization and since Raiden was born with her genes, she thought that she would be an easier child to raise
In Ei's eyes, her neglect for Scara was her giving him "freedom" to raise himself and become who he wanted to be. She didn't know that a parents should be the one raising and taking care of the child throughout their adolescence, and thus, essentially abandoned him in her own household
This is essentially the plot of my AU (if I ever chose to continue it) but yeah, I'm scared of the Ei stans eating my colon so I wanted to discuss how parent-child relationships are, while not always justifiable, are complicated

"Remember me", I ask; "remember me", I sing - Yennskier Modern!AU
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Yennefer goes to one of Jaskier's concerts and the two end up opening up about how they feel about Geralt and how they feel about each other.
Warnings: angst, mention of vision issues, mention of parental abandonment.
Shipps: Yennskier are the protagonists, but this is sort of a Geraskefer story too.
Notes: This just popped in my head and I couldn't do anything but write it. Ofc you'll find some TAD references.
Tumblr media
The pub was full, but despite that there was an atmosphere of comfort completely opposite to the way Yennefer felt in such places. She shook her head in response to a few nods from strangers as she looked for a place to sit and enjoy the show. A familiar face appeared on stage and, as made eye contact with her, gained a twinkle in his eye and ran towards her.
"Yennefer!" Jaskier tucked his hair behind the ear after they hugged. "Why didn't you let me know you were coming? I could've saved you a seat..."
"Don't worry about it!" she lightly touched his arm to make him stop looking around for a vacant seat. "I didn't even know I was coming, actually."
Jaskier caught a shadow in her eyes.
"Did you decide last minute or someone decided for you?"
The sad expression on Yennefer's face was answer enough.
"Where is he?"
"Watching a movie with Ciri." the mention of the girl brought the smile back to Yennefer's face. "Some nonsense with cars and explosions, just the way they like it."
"Good. We know Ciri is the only one capable of getting him to open up about his feelings."
Jaskier led Yennefer by the hand to a table by the window, unoccupied by a couple who had joined some friends at another table. She sat in one of the chairs as he set the other aside and crouched in front of her.
"Well, we can talk about it later. For now, I'll be happy if you forget about your problems and enjoy the concert."
"What can I expect?" she had never seen Jaskier and his band perform.
"Not much." he smirked and blinked at her. "Just the unexpected."
He kissed her hand and got up to go to the stage. She remained feeling the cold and softness of his lips for minutes long.
They were... stunning, for lack of a better word. In addition to Jaskier leading vocals and guitar, the band also had backing vocals by Essi, who played violin and cello, and Priscilla on bass. Valdo - whose feuds with Jaskier she had grown tired of hearing about - rounded out the harmony on drums and percussion.
Fret not, dear heart
Let not them hear the mutterings of all your fears
The flatterings of all your wings
Their music given, at the same time, sadness and joy. The lyrics were pure poetry, catching the most hidden human feeling and transforming it in words beautifully cadenced. She fight against some tears that tried to come up while listening her heart being ripped from the ribcage in that pub, or at last it seemed. The song ended without her noticed and they started another one, this time with just Jaskier and Essi remaining on stage. He strummed the guitar and a smooth melody filled place.
Dear heart, it's me
It's me
You don't need to pretend to be someone you're not
'Cause it's not like I've never heard you fart and snort
Despite her melancholy, Yennefer giggled at the lyrics. It were so Jaskier - finish a sentence capable to make the old poets envy with a ordinary joke. The song has make her think of Geralt, of herself and of Jaskier. The singer and she loved Geralt so much, and he surely loved them back. Why was it all so complicated, then? They never named their relationship for some specific reasons - don't put feeling into boxes, Ciri maybe were still too young to comprehend, and people definitely would talk. But was the price worth it? Yennefer feared that if they keep acting that way, they would end up killing that love so pure cultivated between them.
The concert passed in a blur. Lost in her own thoughts, Yennefer only came to her senses when Jaskier touched her gently on the shoulder.
"Are you okay?" he looked really worried.
"Yeah, I just... The concert was amazing, your songs made me think of so many things..."
Jaskier understood. Her look was the same that appeared on his bandmates' faces when he came up with new compositions and, he suspected, on his own face when he wrote it.
"You know what we need? A good drink. There's a little garden on the roof and, well, I can exercise my musician privileges and get us a few hours of conversation there." he held out his hand to her. "What do you say?"
The scent of night flowers plus Jaskier's presence made her feel safe enough to share the whirlwind of feelings that had swept over her. He listened patiently between sips of whiskey, muttering occasionally to punctuate his agreement.
"I know the love we feel for each other is immense, and it scares me." Yennefer sniffed, giving up trying to hide her tears. "The last time I was so scared was around the time of my surgery."
Jaskier's arm around her grew stronger.
"I wish I could take that fear away from you or at least say I don't share it." he sighed. "I wonder if it wasn't a mistake that we started all this."
"Definitely not. Of that I'm sure, you know why? Because when I got the diagnosis that I might go blind, I knew that what I would miss the most would be seeing you both and Ciri."
Now Jaskier was crying too, but not bothering to try to hide it.
"Sorry. Maybe thinking that was a reflex, since that's how I've felt all my life: like a mistake, a weight in the life of the ones I loved." he shrugged with a tired expression. "That's the big problem with being abandoned by your parents, I think."
They remained silent for a while, looking at the stars like all the answers for their problems were hidden in the sky.
"We should give a fuck and assume our relationship." Jaskier whispered.
"What?" Yennefer turned her head to face him. "What about Ciri? How she would react?"
"I think she wouldn't bother have a mother." he waited for her reaction. "And you certainly would love to have her as your daughter. Geralt wouldn't opposite to it, too."
Yennefer's face was a rock. Jaskier wondered if he passed through the limits, but she just sighed.
"We're drunk, what means that your idea doesn't sound bad. But we should talk with Geralt first, obviously. Ciri might haven't worry, but people at her school could use this against her."
"I doubt that children could be that cruel."
"Not the children, but their parents."
"You know what? Fuck them!" Jaskier stood up. "Fuck this weird society incapable to accept love in all it's ways. Can you listen to me? Fuck you all!"
"Jaskier, your slutty bard! Stop screaming! For God's sake, it's past midnight!"
Yennefer started laughing while Jaskier sat and cursed the pub's owner. They spend the rest of the night drinking and talking about their own feelings, about Geralt and Ciri too. They ended up sleeping curled into each other, dreaming about fight the world's rage for their loved one's.

Owl House AU: Protagonist Swap
Hey there everyone! Not sure if this will ever turn into a story, but it’s been something that has been rattling around in my brain since I was reading Hollow Mind AU: The Empress and the Boy by TheSealer on Archive of Our Own. Here’s the link if you want to check it out https://archiveofourown.org/works/39244665/chapters/98197797.
So, this is mainly just my notes on how I would do Philip in this kind of an AU as well as a couple of other notes on some other details.
Philip Wittebane: Modern Version
He grew up in foster care with his older brother Caleb. His parents died before he could really remember them. Caleb does though and Philip is really attached to him. Part of Phillip’s character growth will be him acknowledging his brother as his own person and accepting they may end up on different paths in life. Has been through quite a few foster homes, generally the less liked of the siblings.
He has some serious anger issues as well as a hard time admitting when he’s wrong. Might also be the autism spectrum. Generally, works better alone despite others’ attempts to get him to socialize. His current foster parents happily jumped at the social worker’s recommendation to send him to a facility to help with those issues. This will lead into his journey into the Boiling Isles.
He loves history and science, like Luz part of his disconnect with his peers is that most kids aren’t interested in what he is. Gives him quite a lot of interesting trivia. He actually doesn’t like fantasy, doesn’t understand why Caleb loves it so much. While Luz’s journey in canon was about going too far into fantasy into escapism, Philip’s journey will have him realize the importance of fantasy and how the two realms are equally horrific and wonderful.
In terms of sexuality and romance, Philip is still trying to figure himself out. Might be something the Isles gives him a hand with.
Coming to the Isles was far from consensual and Philip will be spending his time trying to find a way back to the Human Realm. This is complicated by the fact the Empress is a human hater whose philosophy is well spread on the Isles and is planning on invasion and genocide. He probably wouldn’t have lasted 24 hours had he not been taken in by his mentor.
The Mentor: Kasarana Clawthorne
A mysterious witch and a powerful Oracle, she saves Philip and takes him. Their relationship starts off seemingly transactional (you clean my house and do chores, I let you stay, and you’ll be protected) eventually shifts into a genuine bond. However, unlike Eda being a Reluctant Mentor, Kasarana is a Mentor with an Agenda and is guiding Philip to eventually stand against the Empress. She does grow to care for him, despite her attempts to keep some distance between them.
In spite of all that, Philip would probably say she is the best foster parent he has ever had. Which says a lot about his past foster parents.
She has periods of ill health that she has to take medication for. This is due to a curse she has which she refuses to discuss with anyone save the house demon.
Her appearance is that of a slender pale witch in her late thirties/early forties though she’s implied to be a quite a bit older than that. She has long dark blue wavy hair and light crystal blue eyes. She mostly dresses in cool colors: blues, purples, and greens.
She is probably one of the few witches Empress Luzura seems hesitant to deal with. The Empress seems to hold her in great respect and care, a feeling which is not mutual with Kasarana feeling nothing but hatred and contempt. However, the Oracle seems to go to great lengths to not confront her directly. They share a history and Kasarana is the only one other than The Collector to know about the Empress’ true identity, plans, and motivations.
She is quite the bibliophile, having an extensive library. She especially has a lot of books from the human world. The selection ranges from Dante’s Inferno to a Harry Potter expy (the latter of which Philip definitely judges her for).
There are other Clawthornes on the Isles, but she isn’t in regular contact with them as they are on the side of the Empress.
Her palisman is a white Dove named Desdemona.
Miscellaneous
There will be a House Demon that helps Kasarana in guiding Philip though I don’t have a clear picture of them yet.
Terra Snapdragon will be around Philip’s age and will be his first true friendship. Might also develop romantic feelings later down the line.
In an interesting twist, Philip actually meets Caleb’s canon witch lover before he does, who will be a Clawthorne in this story. The two don’t get along first, Philip due to his issues and her due to buying into the Empress’ propaganda on humans. She considers them horrible inferior creatures and suffice to say both of them have quite a bit of growing up to do. They do eventually develop an older sister/younger brother dynamic.
Much like Luz, Philip will also eventually carve his own Palisman though unlike her, he will figure out his own goal.
Empress Luzura thinks that being The Collector’s friend means she has a degree of control over him, and she can get him to do what she wants. Spoiler Alert: She is wrong. VERY WRONG.
Well, that’s what I’ve got so far! If you have any suggestions or think I should pursue this further, hit me up.

SW Suddenly-Omegaverse AU: Surrogacy, Worldbuilding, Obi-Mom
Truly the main irony of all this is that everyone considers Obi-Wan the Better Omega but Anakin is the one who's actually 👀👀👀 about pregnancy
Obi-Wan: I have the deepest respect for those who do it, but the idea of growing another person inside of me is weird and gross, no, thank you.
Meanwhile Anakin is like. Immediate baby fever. Someone actually approaches him like "hey... there are forms you can fill out to request an exception for pregnancy, and like... regulations" because he's that obvious about it.
I assume that if they've got safety nets for accidental pregnancies, then they're probably aware that there are people who want to do it on purpose? I feel like in an omegaverse where 'biological imperative to procreate' can be so much more intense, then maybe there's old precedent that stuck around even after suppressants got most of those hormones under better control.
Bit torn. Just know I want Anakin to Make Baby.
"Anakin, what are you--" "Do you think offering to be someone's surrogate would be acceptable to the council as a way to be pregnant without getting attached." "...what." "They'd probably accept that as a way to practice not getting attached, right?" "N...no, that's not... what?"
Anakin approaching Bail and Breha and being like “Do you... still want a kid? I would provide a kid. Do you want one here*?”
* in this dimension
Great way to give up the baby as a parent because he'd still be able to see them once in a while but also like... it's not HIS kid, technically. He can be a cool uncle who happened to give birth, which is distant enough to not be 'attached,' but close enough that his Tatooine-raised 'must ensure family is safe whenever possible' background doesn't flip out. It helps that 'Core World Royalty' is like... a top-tier family to be raised in.
(It would have to be post-war because he probably shouldn’t be risking his life while very pregnant. He needs to be reminded of that sometimes.)
Bail/Breha is an alpha/alpha relationship and while a pregnancy is still possible,* it’s a whole lot more difficult, and that's on top of Breha's canon medical issues that resulted in her heart and lungs getting replaced.
* AFAB alphas can get pregnant, and AMAB omegas can inseminate, but the success rate on that angle is much lower than the 'traditional' alpha/omega roles, as is any attempt at reproduction outside rut/heat. They're low-fertility overall for the non-dominant aspect of their reproductive system, which... ha, Anakin and Obi-Wan try to get explanations for why the senary system works the way it does, but it's a very longform history lesson that comes down to 'idk this got cemented so long ago that nobody really knows why anymore.'
AKA "why do you title these roles male omega and female alpha instead of intersex omega and intersex alpha since both parties have both genitals."
ANYWAY
Anakin: I want to make babies. But I don't want to get kicked out of the order. But I don't want to give up my own babies for adoption. But I can't keep my own babies if I want to stay a Jedi. So basically I want to have someone else's babies? Anakin: ...wait shit that's just surrogacy.
Anakin, calling up Obi-Wan: Hey are the Organas still struggling to have a kid? Obi-Wan: ...not really your business. Anakin: You're friends with Bail again though, right? Obi-Wan: I am, but-- Anakin: Do you think they'd want me to be a surrogate? Obi-Wan: What.
I can't decide if it's funnier for the Order to be like "I mean... technically there's no rules against this?" or if this is a precedent set by at least three omegas every generation because that's just how a/b/o manifested for omegas in a biological and cultural sense.
Bail: Wait, your former apprentice is... volunteering... to be our surrogate. Obi-Wan, exhausted: Yes. Bail: He barely knows us. Obi-Wan: He respects you and you're the closest people he knows that want a child and would be good parents. Bail: And he's just... volunteering? Obi-Wan: Yes. Also, you did say your primary worry was that a surrogate might be targeted for assassination and you couldn't ask someone to risk that, right? Anakin is very much able to avoid assassins, and would be staying primarily in the Temple anyway. Very safe, and not particularly scared of assassins in the first place. Bail: Your words say you approve, but your tone says otherwise. Obi-Wan: Anakin considers me his father. I'm not old enough to be a grandparent. Bail: Ah.
Anakin is a surrogate and enjoys it and everything is fine and then like a year later he's accidentally pregnant with his own and Rex's kid, and nobody knows how to ask if it's actually an accident.
A suggestion from @gelpenss:
OH MAN i.... have to drive home. But I just had a thought about like. I always want to poke at Betas in A/B/O like are they “normal” or different from our standard or.... but ANYWAY assuming they have a pheromonal thing I just think it would be neat if betas had the ability to be the Bucket of Cold Water. Like if caught early enough, and with the caveat it’s not permanent, a beta could arrest a rut or heat in its tracks until a more ideal time. Like. They aren’t birth control. But they are the remind me later button.
Okay done driving I am Returned to bring up why I brought up betas and it’s this: well okay 1. It plays nice with a popular but inaccurate dog breeding urban legend that female dogs will like, delay heat cycles? so that the bitches above them in pack hierarchy have first choice of mate selection. And I think in omegaverse it would be cool if that was a Bio Fact, and also historically enforced by the third designation. 2. It gives me an excuse to have betas have the Most Sensitive sense of smell because it’s their “job” to pick up on things before they go too far to be put on pause. 3. I’m just thinkin ‘bout a beta clone [...] just hovering around Obi-Wan because they found out how much stress his heat cycle causes and they’re like “okay cool I will help make sure it does Not”
I want to like a/b/o verses but betas niggle at me. I want to give them a hat and a Function that woulda helped before modern medicine.
I'm not sure how I feel about betas being able to delay heats, but I do like the idea of them having a more sensitive sense of pheromone smell than most. Most aliens assume it's omegas with the best sense of smell, and betas with the worst, but it's more complicated than that because they all specialize: Alphas are actually less attuned to pheromone smells, but more attuned to things that were useful back when humans were still a hunter-gatherer species. Omegas tend to be heightened towards danger smells like fire or aggression, and pheromones relating to children/care. Betas, as suggested above, are very sensitive to pheromone changes relating to mood and behavior of the community around them.
I like the idea that betas were historically the ones that ended up taking care children, unmated omegas, and so on during people's heats and ruts, because they kept their heads about themselves long enough to do things like cook and clean while someone was reeking of hormones. The checks and balances work out that betas may have lower fertility, but it makes them better able to support the network around them.
It works in with humanity's general collective history of thriving the most when working as a community.
Given that I decided that this is Jangobi, the clones might all subconsciously view Obi-Wan as Mom. Not intentionally, but, you know... Obi-Wan the not-evil stepmother. He doesn't know how he got into this situation, but he sure is here, and he sure as hell doesn't know how to get out.
Obi-Wan "I don't need to get pregnant, I have three million stepchildren" Kenobi
I definitely love "clones all want to make Obi-Wan's heats less stressful" but like in a different way from Whatever The Fuck Anakin's Got Going On.
Obi-Wan using the force to dull the pain in a Shiny's broken leg while the medic works on it and the Shiny just mumbles "Thanks mom" and everyone gets very embarrassed and pretends it didn't happen.
But then it happens again. And again.
Obi-Wan asks for an explanation from Cody and gets a halting response that, since Jango is technically their father, and his scent has been all over Obi-Wan recently... and Obi-Wan puts in a lot of effort to take care of them all.......
Anakin overhears the clones calling Obi-Wan "mom" and just. The most judgmental eyebrow raise.... Mostly in the sense of "You never let me call you dad" "Thought you said you weren't anyone's parent." "Hey, hey, Obi-Wan. What the fuck."
BOBA. BOBA ABSOLUTELY CALLS OBI-WAN MOM WHENEVER POSSIBLE. IT'S DEEPLY FRUSTRATING.
Obi-Wan eventually manages to admit that he's uncomfortable with it at minimum because of the gendering the word has for him, can they at least use the neutral 'buir' instead?
Word spreads like fire, takes like two days max for everyone to switch.
(Anakin demands cuddles as compensation for not getting to call Obi-Wan any true parental term for years.)

Invisible String (6/?)
Pairing:  Bucky Barnes x Female reader (Modern AU)
Description: James Buchanan Barnes, the owner of the most expensive-looking club in town and your new apartment. He was a dick and you hated him. What could possibly go wrong when you, the new girl in town, start bartending at his club to pursue your dreams?
Word Count: 2.1k words
Tumblr media
Bucky couldn't recall the last time he had a genuine conversation with someone who wasn't his best mates, Sam and Steve. He enjoyed your company and as much as he hated to let his guard down, he wanted to do just that with you. You were everything that Bucky thought he would find repulsive, but he couldn’t help but be attracted towards you. And for the first time he wanted more, he didn't want a one-night stand or a fling with you, he wanted to know you. He admired your courage and bravery, but mostly he admired you. You, with all your stupid yet funny jokes and spontaneity; he liked you more than he would like to admit.
But there was this thing that you were his employee and one meal doesn't count as a date. It was just a meal. But yet, Bucky wanted it to be more. He had never been so intrigued by another person, but it was also clear that you didn't reciprocate his interest. And Bucky would have all of his 206 bones crushed out rather than giving his heart to someone only for it to be not requited.
So, when you walked into the club the next day, pretending as if nothing had changed, Bucky knew where your relationship lay with him, and he was content with it. Okay, he wasn't content with it, but he knew he couldn't force something that wasn't there. He would choose to be in your life as your boss, acquaintance, or maybe even a friend if he's lucky enough than to not be in your life at all.
***
When you got settled behind the counter, your mood wasn't that great. It could be because you weren't drunk this time, or maybe because you enjoyed your meal with your boss a little too much for your liking. You wouldn't call it a date, but it sure as hell was a lot better than all the dates or meals you've had with people.
Your good mood was definitely not because of the fact that your mother called only to inform you that this family friend's son is not going to wait around long, and you should at least find a stable job if you can't find a suitable boyfriend. Then she started boasting about your sister and her amazing profession and how she and her husband save lives every day. And you might have had enough of her bullshit and lied that you indeed have a stable job and relationship. None of which is true.
Bartending only pays the bills, and you haven't had a relationship in years and none of them were serious. You always ran away from any sort of commitment because you knew you would eventually have to introduce your partner to your family and nobody deserves to see that circus, and you told yourself that you're doing a favor to those previous partners by leaving them or as your friends like to call ghosting them. In your defense, dealing with you and your family is more horrific than any scary movie.
Well, until now because tomorrow your sister and her family are coming to meet your partner and take you back to your parents' place for the weekend. The only problem is that you lied to them about your job and your partner. The worst part is that both of them are pretty non-existent.
"Hey, How are you feeling? " Peter asked you, noticing how you still weren't paying attention to the customer in front of you.
“Great, not drunk, if that's what you're wondering.”
“I'm fine," you retorted, glancing at the concerned look Peter was giving you. You quickly took the customer's order and proceeded to make the drink.
"The last time you said you were fine, you threatened to kill a dude," Pietro interjected, enjoying the faux disbelief that landed on your face. You looked over to Wanda for help, but she just chuckled at her brother's antics.
The rest of the night at work went by as it usually did. Pietro making a sarcastic remark here and there, Wanda countering her brother with a snarky response, you were laughing your ass off watching the duo and Peter awkwardly tried to suppress his amusement. In a weird custom, these three coworkers were the only thing that felt normal.
By the time you were done, it was mostly you left like always, with the addition of security guards that James added since Rumlow. You wanted to talk to him, especially after the wonderful not date you had, but the situation with him was not under your control anymore and it released from your grasp which scared the shit out of you. If James and you had met under different circumstances, then you would have tried to date him, but with him being your boss and the whole Rumlow thing made everything so complicated, and you didn't have time for any sort of relationship complication in your life. At least that's what you kept telling yourself.
When you were done with your shift and were about to leave, a very familiar voice called for you. You've been trying to ignore him all day and just when you thought you've succeeded, he catches up to you.
The thing that scared you with James was that you felt safe, too safe with him. You were scared that you were going to become dependent on him for your security, and you hated that. You always despised women who weren't anything except their husband's wife, as if their whole identity was being a man's property. Furthermore, you knew the only thing to be blamed here was patriarchy and men, but you decided that you weren't going to be someone's property, you were going to be your own person.
And you rebelled a lot to reach here, dyed your hair blue just because your mom told you not to, pursued your dream just because your dad told you to follow a secure nine to four job, left ex-partners because they told you what to and what not to wear. And some part of you knew that James wasn't like that. He wouldn't exploit you and your weaknesses.
But what you didn't realize was that these were merely excuses that your brain mustered up because you were too scared to be dumped. A long time ago, you decided that it is better to leave than be left. And James — well, James made you feel things that you didn't want to chase. You feared commitment and abandonment too much to go after a guy.
Your thoughts were brought to a halt when he held your wrist gently and called your name again. Reluctantly, you turned around, pretending to be surprised as if you didn't see him.
He obviously caught on to you. "Why are you ignoring me?"
"What?" You scoffed in feign disbelief, taking your hand away from his grasp and setting it on his shoulder. "Why would I ignore you, bud?"
Bud? What the fuck? , both of you thought at the same time.
Carefully, he eyed your hand and then you, "Okay, come on, I'll drop you home."
"No, James, it's fine, I can go on my own."
"Yes, yes, you are an independent, strong woman but come on," He teased, but you didn't seem to pick up the glint of mischief in his eyes.
You heard that as a taunt, a taunt your father has told you an ample number of times, that you indeed can never be anything on your own if you don't have a man beside you. While you were lost in your thoughts, James was moving towards his car, assuming that you were following him.
 "But I am," you argued.
Your voice sounded distant to him, he turned around and walked towards you. "You are what?"
"I am strong and independent."
"Yes, you are," he agreed as a matter of factly because it was the truth. He had never met someone so strong who would leave behind their whole life to pursue their dreams. He, being the mob boss, and filthy rich couldn't do the same, and he may not tell you this, but he admired you so much.
Once you got the assurance you needed, you started walking towards his car. "Are you coming or not?" and he followed you.
Of course, you knew you were strong, but your life had not been going as smoothly as you anticipated. You're stuck in writer's block, your family interference and lack of trust in you hurts like a bitch. You were somewhat crushing on your boss, and you blurted random embarrassing stuff in front of him without thinking. You know, normal crush things.
When you reached the apartment, he insisted on dropping you to your floor. The car ride was spent in peaceful silence, but the time spent in the elevator was everything but that. No, the fifteen seconds were spent in James fidgeting beside you because he wanted to say something but didn't know how to.
After you unlocked your door, he finally spoke up. "Um, I was just wondering whether, you know, - I had fun last night and I don't have smooth conversations with people - um, I don't know, I'd like to go out with you again," he didn't finish, but your eyebrows shot up to your forehead and he quickly backpedaled. " Not as a date, if that's what you want. It could be a meal shared between you and your boss. Not that I'm implying that you are obligated to go with me just because I'm your boss. I'm asking this as a stranger, well, not as a stranger but as a friend, I think."
"James,” you spoke softly, and he could feel the denial coming his way.” I had fun too, but you're my boss. This is highly unprofessional."
He signed in defeat and looked at you one last time. There was so much he wanted to say, he wanted to tell you that he enjoyed your company more than he should. He wanted to tell you that he liked you. He wanted to tell you that he wanted to see where this thing would lead with you, but he knew better than that. At the end of the day, you were his employee and if you were to get involved with him in any form, it would only end in your tarnished reputation. So, he nodded, not trusting himself enough to speak much after the clear rejection. "I understand."
"Y/N! “
Both of you turned towards the source of the voice and frowned. He frowned because he was confused, whereas you, oh, you weren't confused, you were furious at the person standing there and at yourself for forgetting about their arrival.
"Hi, Carol. I thought you were coming tomorrow," you stated, faking a smile, and everyone in the area could see your distressed attempt at looking excited.
Well, everyone except your sister because she shrieked with happiness and ran towards you to throw her arms around you. Her husband followed behind and gave you and James an awkward smile.
"I just couldn't wait to meet my baby sister and we'll take you guys back for the weekend."
You guys, James and you thought at the same time. James looked at the side of your face for an explanation, and you kept looking forward at your sister, avoiding his gaze.
Fuck, you forgot about that. How can you forget about that? You mentally cursed yourself and didn't say anything because you didn't know what to do.
Your sister picked your silence as her cue to talk and pointed her index finger at James, who was standing beside you now. "Is this him?"
Your sister looked at you, expecting an answer, your brother-in-law looked at you with something called, please hurry up, I just want to go back to the hotel. James looked at you with bewilderment.
You sighed and took your boss's hand in yours, who also happens to be the most dangerous person in the town. He complied, holding on to you tightly, running his thumb on the back of your hand in a soothing manner. It felt like the most obvious thing as if your hand was made to be held by him. The thought sent a pleasant shiver down your spine, but you were too stubborn to accept it.
"Yes," you finalized. "This is James, my boyfriend."

Hobbit Fic Rec List!
MODERN AU!
Hello! I always wanted to share a gigantic list of awesome works in Hobbit fanfic, but realized they are too many. So let's start small. A few modern AU that everybody has to read!
.......*.......
How to fall in love in 100 days by Kytanna
As their lives intertwine, Thorin, Bilbo, and their nephews learn the meaning of finding a family, love and the hard path towards healing. All, over the course of a hundred days.
A lovely piece with all the cuteness and fluff.
Softer Strokes by autisticalistair
Thorin is a well-known artist living a secluded life in the Swiss Alps. Bilbo is a former history professor living in a trauma rehabilitation centre after a devastating accident that took his parents lives. Through a mutual friend, Bilbo finds himself in Switzerland, and Thorin finds himself with company for the next few months, and neither of them are prepared for what that will bring.
I'll never say 'I love you' by JustReadingMaybeWriting
Bilbo is a veterinary student who one night saves the life a handsome but wounded man. Bilbo should have called an ambulance. If he had called an ambulance, he wouldn't be in this weird mess. He certainly wouldn't be falling in love with the man he saved, who can't seem to leave him alone.
This one's a bit dark, but I love it.
painted blind by nasri
The last time Bilbo stepped foot in Aberdeen it was with a broken heart and a bachelor’s degree. All things considered, this time isn’t so different.
Plan B by Drenagon
Plan B: an alternative strategy; a contingency plan, devised for an outcome other than the expected plan.
Or, sending an unqualified temp to act as Thorin Oakenshield's PA because no one qualified can put up with him.
(He'd say they can't meet his standards. Of course he would.)
Meet Bilbo Baggins. He just became Plan B.
One Modern!AU I always wanted to read and this is just it! It's amazing!! And the whole COmpany is there!!
A Land Far Away by Prollyaghost (Callmerin)
"If we were in a different time or place, this story may have begun with ‘once upon a time’, or even ‘In a hole in the ground, there lived…’ But as it so happens, we are in this time and place, in the outskirts of London, where there are no ‘once upon a times’ and the only holes in grounds lead to sewage tunnels. There does happen to be, however, a man who has dedicated a great deal of his life studying these ‘once upon a time’s. He is an English teacher, enjoys afternoon teas with homemade raisin scones, and he most certainly does not believe in fairy-tales.
His name is Bilbo Baggins, and that last bit about him is about to change."
Bilbo Baggins, an English teacher who has never been outside of England, suddenly finds himself thrust into an adventure when a strange man named Thorin Oakenshield requires his help to fulfil his father’s dying wish. Turns out studying the niche topic of the ancient, fictional society of dwarves was more useful than his parents could have imagined. Plunged into a forgotten land, Thorin and Bilbo must find the mythical Arkenstone, before the legends of the past come back to haunt modern society.
Okay, this one's a WIP, but damn the premise is super interesting and honestly can't wait for the next update!
Nothing Gold Can Stay by perkynurples
Bilbo Baggins led a rather peaceful life, thank you very much, until an old acquaintance decided to turn it upside down, and he found himself agreeing to take a job that’s… let’s say not exactly up his alley, and might eventually cost him a little more than his treasured cozy lifestyle. Who would have thought tutoring a slightly menacing monarch’s more than slightly overbearing nephew could prove to be such an adventure?
This is one of the fics that does not need an introduction. No matter how many times you read this, it isn't enough. And we all love Fili and Kili here.
What to do When Your Cat is an Asshole by lily_winterwood
“You have a cat?” asks the face on the screen. “Yes. His name’s Smaug, he’s orange, and he’s an asshole. Aren’t you, Smaug?” Surly Food Provider glowers at me, which, of course, I am immune to. “Aren’t you a little asshole?” I don’t see why he needs to call me that. My butthole is perfectly licked, and it smells wonderful.
The AU where Smaug is Thorin's asshole cat. Written for the Bagginshield Unexpected Anniversary.
This one's small, and hilarious and even better if you imagine Benedryl Cucumbersnatch narrating the whole thing
No Ordinary Love by badskippy
Bilbo and Ori have been best friends since they were ten years old and tragedy brought them together. Now, a new job, a sudden rainstorm, a chance meeting and budding romance with a burly, handsome stranger will not only alter their lives, but set in motion events that will change everyone around them, and reveal how lies, deceit and assumptions can leave deeper scars than the ones that can be seen.
WIP, unfinished, but damn was this an interesting tale. For anybody who loves angst, go give it a read!
Remember Me by thehistorygeek
Bilbo Baggins and Thorin Oakenshield are destined to suffer. In every life they live, in every age, in every era, they meet, and this meeting brings back all the memories of the lives that have come before. But every meeting serves also as a death sentence, for once they have met, one of them is doomed to die soon after, usually tragically and prematurely. They remember nothing of their past lives until they meet, and once they have there is nothing that can be done to stop their fate.
For anyone obsessed with Reincarnation and/or History, this is it.
A Remover of Obstacles by MistakenMagic
"Dis often chided her older brother for being a misanthropist. She did it so often it had become a term of endearment. It was true that Thorin struggled with people; he struggled to form and maintain relationships. Dr. Grey had diagnosed him with this and Thorin hadn’t the heart to tell him this wasn’t a symptom of his PTSD, it was a symptom of his personality. He exercised a sense of apathy with almost everyone he met… But Bilbo was different. Thorin actually found himself wanting to know more about him."
Another fic that DOES NOT need an introduction. I have read it thrice and every time the emotions are still the same. Trigger Warnings, but damn this is all worth it.
An Unexpected Meeting by what_am_i_even_doing_tho
This is the chronicling of the modern day shenanigans of Bilbo Baggins, who is an absolute gay disaster, and Thorin Oakenshield, who is unashamedly enamored. Aka, the modern Bagginshield AU that no one ever asked for but they're getting anyway.
green and gilded by nasri
The next time he visits his parents there are flowers left in the grass, pressed back against the gravestone. They are yellow and white daffodils, plain and wilting.
“Who’s been to see you?” He asks, taking a single photo of the flowers with their drooping stems and curled petals and the wet winter grass that surrounds them. His mother would call it kind, his father might say it's curious, and Bilbo takes another petal to tuck into his pocket.
You know those stories that you read once and then they never leave your head? And somehow your whole life begins to revolve around that one story? Yeah, this is it. Spoilers in tag and I would suggest you read before advancing cause many people do not like it, but even if you are not in that group, just give it a read. This story deserves all the reads.
Bran' New Suit by pibroch (littleblackdog)
Andrew's description had been sufficient to recognize him— a riot of honey brown curls, short in stature, a well-favoured face with expressive features— but it hadn't quite been enough to prepare Tom for the sharp, almost painful tug in his gut at the sight of the man. They had never met before, to the best of Tom's recollection, but there was something eerily and inexplicably familiar about him all the same.
One of the first Modern AU I read and dauym...you won't get it until the end but then...it's fun.
Under New Management by frostyjack
Fili's life is pretty good -- he's doing well at university, he gets on well with his uncle and guardian Thorin, and he's never likely to know what it's like to be poor or unwanted. Then Thorin takes in a foster child -- Kili Oakenshield, a long-lost relative whose past is a total mystery. Suddenly, Fili's life gets a whole lot more complicated. But maybe it gets better, too.
Lots of trigger warning for this one, but when the end comes, you'll know it's all been worth it.
One-Sided Conversations by northerntrash
"Thank you for listening," Thorin said, getting to his feet. "I hope to be able to return the favour, one day."
The man on the bed didn't respond, but since he'd been in a coma for longer than Thorin had known him, that wasn't entirely surprising.
(Not Quite) Prince Charming by manic_intent
The problem, Bilbo would later tell Gandalf in aggrieved irritation, was not so much the unannounced visitors, oh no, but the fact that due to the lateness of the hour and sheer merciless fate, it came to be that at the respectable age of forty, Bilbo was being introduced to a real, live king while wearing striped pyjamas and fluffy slippers.
The Making of a Story by northerntrash
When Bilbo finds a case of old family photographs, he becomes determined to find the original owners: what he does not expect is to become quite so involved in their lives, or that those photographs should prove quite so important.
Misunderstandings and other obstacles for love by ylc
This series dammit! It's amazing, and the dynamics you would ask from a Modern AU.
Candle Glow and Mistletoe by euseevius
Bilbo and Thorin have been married for six months now. The thing is, Thorin’s family doesn’t know this. And because pretending to be just friends for the three weeks you’re going to spend at the family cabin is so much easier than telling the truth, that is what they will do.
(Of course Bilbo has his own ideas of how believable it is for a grown man to bring a friend to spend Christmas with his family. That’s why they make a bet out of it.)
For days you need to just laugh at these two idiots.
The Lost Kingdom of Erebor by Twisted_Barbie
AU. The Lost Kingdom of Erebor is shrouded in myth, likened to the heavens and compared to Atlantis. Until an archaeological discovery unearths that which was lost and awakens the Mad King from his cursed eternal rest.
Not a happy ending, and mysterious and you need to give it a read. Just, do it. It will all be worth it.
Of Palaces and Ruins by livelongandgetiton
Slow burn. Bilbo Baggins is a half-baked archaeologist who has put his dreams of adventure on hold to teach secondary school. Thorin is the grandson of a politically powerful figure in the historically rich and deeply isolationist country of Erebor. When he flees conflict and corruption in Erebor to settle in London, he finds his hands full with two young boys. Gandalf meddles, and Bilbo signs on as a personal tutor for the boys in hopes of getting a foot in the door to archaeological work in Erebor. He soon discovers that Thorin is a tough nut to crack. As Bilbo takes care of the boys he and Thorin grow closer, and secrets about not just the brooding stranger, but the mysterious country and politics of Erebor begin to unravel. It turns out that Bilbo isn't leaving adventure behind, after all.
WIP, updating. JUST READ IT!!!
Write Me Down Easy by lucyraebrown
Bilbo Baggins, a simple man with a wish for something more than his life teaching high school English, is obsessed with a famous author by the pen-name Oakenshield. Although he knows the future is dim for his chances of finding out about the man behind his favorite book, it's reassuring to know someone has the same thoughts about the world.
WIP, updating. It's mostly fuff and happiness, so yesss...feed your inner Bagginshield!
Show Me My Silver Lining by BiSquared
Three years after the hostile takeover of his grandfather's record label by one DJ Smaug, lead singer Thorin Oakenshield is ready to give up on his dreams, even if his band isn't ready to give up on him. If Thorin can convince talent scout Bilbo Baggins to sign them, they might just have a fighting chance. Of course, this is the night when Thorin gets stage fright.
The music industry AU no one asked for.
Love-In-Idleness by perkynurples
Taking Bilbo Baggins, a successful movie actor who is only just getting used to the perks and intricacies of becoming A Face People Want To See, and putting him together with Thorin Oakenshield, with his very traditional (read: slightly backwards) ideas about what constitutes Real Art and Real Talent, might very well be viewed as just some clothead’s idea of a joke. But there are jokes, and then there are carefully calculated risks the size of controversial reproductions of classic Shakespearean plays - for Bilbo, it is the chance of a lifetime to prove himself to all those who have ever deemed him too one-dimensional to even attempt stage, while Thorin has the opportunity to get out of the rut that’s been hindering his career for so long now, and shine in a role worthy of his talent once again. That is if the two learn how to share the same space for more than ten minutes without wanting to tear each other’s hair out. The course of true love never did run smooth, after all…
Did I read this in one go? Yes I did. Did I fall in love with Bagginshiled all over again? Yes I did.
.......*.......
And that's the list folks! I hope you guys have fun reading all of these nice fics! (And all the bagginshield angst/fuff)

I enjoy learning from your blog sm—ty for all you share. Especially since I’ve found there’s very few sources. Sry if you’ve talked about this before, but if you’re still open to answering questions I was wondering what the culture surrounding lgbt+ identities? You talked a bit about gender roles and co-husbands, but is homophobia still prevalent? (Would it be less so in-universe versus a modern au?) Also, if you’re willing to share any terminology (whether two-spirit is used?) used?
Alright, here's where things get a little tricky.
It's hard to really talk about queerness in other cultures because the idea that sexuality and attraction is an inherent part of your identity is not in any way universal. This is where you get a lot of people claiming certain historians and anthropologists are homophobic (and that's not to say some of them aren't but people tend to make really harsh assumptions without reading into what's actually being said) for saying that x or y doesn't mean this person was gay as we understand it. In a lot of cultures, the people you persue personal relationships with isn't a part of who you are, just something you do. So a man who prefered the companionship of other men, say in medieval England, would likely still marry a woman and have children to help him with work as he ages and take care of him when he's old. Does that mean he couldn't have a loving relationship with his wife, just because she wasn't a man and he wasn't attracted to her? No. Is it wrong if he wouldn't consider this not being himself, because he grew up in a world where attraction and sexuality is what you do rather than who you are? I can't really answer that.
And so you take this idea that romantic relationships are something you do rather than an ingrained part of your identity, and you add to that this concept practically unheard of nowadays that romance really isn't important. That doesn't mean that people never had romantic feelings or acted on them, just that this idea of courtly love, that being in love makes you a better person and thus is inherently righteous, was never a part of the culture. You got together with someone because you weren't related and they were someone you didn't mind surviving and having kids with, not strictly because you were in love with them. And then, unlike medieval England, sex was not something to be considered shameful or sinful, and definitely didn't have to be exclusive between spouses.
There was a bit off accidental accuracy in Kya saying that sort of thing isn't talked about in the comics. You wouldn't hear stories about a romantic love between two men or two women, but you also wouldn't really hear about romantic love between a woman and a man; not unless that was your parents' or grandparents' experience and they shared that with you. The important loves are considered to be between family members. You'll notice in Inuit stories a lot that if a girl is kidnapped and force into a marriage, it's her brother who rescues her, not her sweetheart.
I'm sure there would be some prejudiced people, because let's face it, you can't please them all. But I think the main reason you wouldn't see many gay couples as we understand them to be would have more to do with needing children without access to artificial insemination, as well as very different and comparatively irreverent attitudes toward sex and romance. (In fact, I'm reminded of a story this elder woman shared when my class went to learn a bit about Native cultures back in elementary school. She and her friend left their village and started living among white people. They were still learning English and these two white men, friends themselves, were friendly with them and helped them out, not just that first day, but over the course of, I wanna say some months? Anyway, one of them proposed to the lady telling us this story and the other to her friend. The men had fallen in love and already considered themselves in romantic relationships with these women. The women got a good laugh out of this because they hadn't realized that being so personal and familiar and generally happy to be around someone could be interpreted as romantic interest. Their response to these guys was basically "sure, why not" because romantic feelings or no, they genuinely enjoyed their company.)
If we wanna talk gender, the cultural understanding there is a little different there too. Sipiniq is Inuktittut for "baby that changed its sex at birth" which, as far as I understand, has been used for both intersex and trans people. I can't find anything on the way they specifically were seen by the community, let alone regional specifics but to speak on gender as a whole the cultures are interesting for a few reasons. Inupiat names and third person pronouns aren't gendered. You are named after a person to carry on their soul, and this person is not guaranteed to be your gender. So if you're afab, no one is calling you "she" as opposed to "he" because that's not how the language works and a few people might actually call you "grandpa" or "uncle" because that's who you were named after and that's whose soul is kept in your body. You might be seen as having the body of a man or woman, and the limitations that come with it, but that which makes you yourself is not a gendered thing. King Islanders even had a Messenger Feast tradition where women would dress as men and men would dress as women. They had masks for it and everything.
Queerness is such a nebulous thing and so often we approach it with such a limited understanding, insisting ours is the only right way to treat it. Sometimes the answer to "well were they gay/trans?" can only be "it's complicated" and we all have to be more okay with that. Not every culture has the same concept of or places the same importance on sexuality, romance, or gender.

Fanfics masterpost
The “I throw a bunch of links alongside the recs, because I wanna keep that as my pinned and not exchange it”-post
Commission me with knitted and crocheted stuff as well as writing on Buy Me A Coffee.
My policy for transformative works of my writing.
Just a link collection for different stuff, mine and other people’s writing. (All links go to ao3 unless otherwise stated, my German original texts are all on StoryHub, English translations linked below), the generall tag for my writing on this blog is here.
I also have a queer friendly discord server for talking about Naruto (and other fandoms), sharing fanfics and fanarts and posting full spoiler updates on my texts.
Fandom events I (co)host (too many): @polyam-naruto, @tobiizuweek, @hashimitoweek, @teamminatoweek, @minakushiweek, @foundersweek
My writing tag
My art tag
Fanfics I highly recommend in no particular order
What it means to be a king by Arinariel (Tolkien, finished) and the second part Gold Rings and Green Woods (ongoing): intriguing, awesome writing and super cool characterization
Jailbird by JazTheBard (Tolkien, finished): Lord of the Rings but add Maglor, because Maglor is always good
Lords of Amon Ereb by JazTheBard (Tolkien, finished): c’mon do you really need a reason for kidnapdoption? Also wonderfull, heartwarming twist and some highly entertaining pranks ^^ (Eonwe gets what he deserves)
Breathless by PaddyChan (Naruto, ongoing): AU (but really, better than the canon, so this is canon now), founding of Konoha and quite a few nice jokes.
Tobirama kicks some sense into Konoha by allseer15 (Naruto, finished): the title speaks for itself. Very wholesome, best uncle Tobirama, everyone get what they deserve (as in Danzo gets his ass kicked and Naruto a home, family and friends)
My longfics (I definitely won’t link every oneshot here, because it’s simply too much)
Wanderer in the Mist of Time (Tolkien, finished), AU, what if Lindir is secretly Maglor and the Arkenstone a Silmaril? But don’t fear, it has a happy ending
Childhood memories (Tolkien, ongoing): kidnapdoption, simple as that. After the Third Kinslaying Maglor takes with him the little twin sons of Elwing and takes care of them. First their relationship is complicated at best, but slowly they grow fond of each other
Tide’s change (Tolkien, ongoing), complete rework of my very first fanfic about Legolas starting with how his parents met and ending with him going to Valinor with Gimli
Into the Void (Tolkien, ongoing): My little Angbang series with the first part The Spring of Arda marred complete, first part about the seduction of Mairon and how he became a Maia of Melkor
Earenis (Tolkien, technically complete): what once started as a not really serious persiflage of Mary Sues became much more serious very quickly. Technically complete, because the German text is complete (except for a few chapters in the third part), but I have to finish translating it. Earenis is half elf, half orc and the chosen one to stop a new enemy, a servant of Sauron (as I said, she should have been a Mary Sue, lol). However, thing don’t turn out quite as expected. Plus dragons. Always put dragons in it.
Fae barad - Foreign soul (Tolkien, complete): Legolas lands in modern day London and needs to find a way back in his time
Elrond’s diaries (Tolkien, ongoing, open end), simply as the title says. Currently in a state of reworking, I post as I go, won’t have a definite end
The right hand of death (The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivlion, technically complete): life and work of Lucien Lachance and how he started as a street urching and ended as one of the Dark Brotherhood’s most talented assassins; technically complete because the German text is long finished, I just have to continue translating it. If I may say so I still think this is my best text
Roots (Naruto, complete): founding of Konoha with focus on Hashirama’s and Madara’s relationship (because HashiMada is canon, you can’t convince me otherwise) and the problems they have to face in realization of their shared dream. Not all things go as smoothly as they wish for.
Adamantine (Naruto, finished): The AU, in which the Uzumaki women solve every problem Konoha ever had, simply because Uzumaki supremacy. Kabuto summons Mito and Kushina with Edo Tensei, but Mito breaks out of his control and together with Kushina take on the Juubi. The war is won, Madara never goes full on crazy and my OT3 HashiMadaMito finally gets some time together. Zetsu gets yeeted into the abyss where he belongs.
Krigsgaldr (Naruto, finished): the AU where cute little murder bean Izuna is allowed to live. Only three years after they got separated Hashirama and Madara meet again and plan to end the war. Because you just can't separate them! Heavily influenced by the aesthetics of Heilung (hence the title, which translates to war chant in Old Norse). Bonus for queer teenagers and nonbinary Izuna (Izuna, the character who’s completely made of anger and the rest is awesome projection surface, because Kishimoto tells us literally nothing about him). First part of my Butterfly Verse.
Butterfly Effect (Naruto, finished): Once Tobirama spared Izuna's life. Now it's Izuna's time to save Tobirama. As in the Kinkaku force gets their asses kicked by ferral Izuna. Part of the Butterfly Verse.
Until Eternity (Naruto, finished): Ghost AU, where Naruto ends up with the ghost of Madara (spice it up with Kurama), Sasuke with the ghost of Hashirama and Sakura with the ghost of Mito. Edo Tensei Tobirama is in there as well for some obscure reason because I write this.
Underneath the Silence (Naruto, ongoing): TobiMina timetravel fix-it, where Tobirama escapes the Kinkaku Force, but lands in modern day Konoha where Minato is currently Hokage. Nearly everyone he knows is dead and he struggles to find his place in this new world. And then Kyubi attacks, hupsi 😇
水の音 (mizu no oto): Sound of Water (Naruto, finished): Transmasc Tobirama invents transition and ends the war with it.
Unpublished stuff I’m currently working on
War in Eregion (Tolkien), this is probably not the final title. Technically the third part of my Angbang series, but can be read separately. It’s about Elrond trying to establish his spot in the politics of Lindon, Gil-galad trying his best as (not so) new king and Sauron worming his way into his enemies’ ranks
The Bliss of Valinor (Tolkien): second Angbang text about Mairon further establishing himself as new Lieutnant of Angband and spy for Melkor in Valinor
Ghost of Uchiha (Naruto), modern AU, Madara has a habbit of adopting little lost Uchiha kids (as in Obito, Itachi and Sasuke) and accidentially starts a collection (will be a bit more serious, than this description sounds, lol), OT3 HashiMadaMito, I’m throwing all my queer headcanons for them in this. Also cockatiels. Just because. And nobody can stop me from writing my own tiels into this!
Mirrors: The AU where Tsunade has to learn that her Grandpa maybe was not the person who she thinks he was. Aka suddenly she has to deal with a Sharingan. (Aka that's what's happening when I bullshit around)
Neon Dream: Cyberpunk AU of Team Minato, imagine a meshup between Cyberpunk 2077 and Horizon
Akatsuki!Minato: He defects from Konoha together with Kushina and his team and Akatuski happens. Just in a slightly different way.
Stuff I haven’t started yet but have (vague) ideas for
What if Maedhros found Eluréd and Elurín, because more kidnapdoption is always good, but add even more drama and hurt and angst. Will turn out a bit more bittersweet than Childhood memories. Will be multi chaptered and is in fact already fully plotted (wow, what’s wrong with me o.0)
Maedhros lives and goes with Elros to Númenor. The Lords of Númenor think their King an inexperienced kid despite the fact that Elros is much older than most of them. Maedhros teaches them otherwise. Plus some cultural differences, because Elros is, after all, raised as Noldo. Problably an oneshot (but who knows).
A long oneshot or a short longfic about Cicero and how he became the jester of the Dark Brotherhood and Keeper of the Night Mother. (You’re just a mean cutthroat if you betray his trust in his Listener and kill him! 😤) Based on his diaries.
A spin off to The right hand of death with the backstory of Vicente Valtieri and how he becase a vampire and ended up with the Dark Brotherhood. Definitely multi chaptered
Born to Live, second part of Roots, currently in a state of ploting, Mito will be focus character.
Implementing my hc, that Tobirama is Kakashi’s grandpa, into my Butterfly Verse, but I need a plot D: Why do I need a plot! T.T
AU in which Kushina and Naruto die, but Minato survives by sealing Kurama inside him. From there on everything gets a slightly darker turn, unhinged psycho Minato and deeply traumatized young adult Kakashi do a lot of fucked up shit, MinaKaka
