i saw you mention some ocs in that tag-the-oc that’s always on your mind. i’d love to hear a little bit about them!
Oooo yes I believe I mentioned Haven in that one. She is one of my favorite OCs and she lives rent free in my head constantly.
There's an old ask where i rambled about her on my blog somewhere but I'm banished to mobile and can't search for it right now, so I'll just ramble away again lmao. One day she'll get a proper character introduction, but I'm waiting to do that for Reasons.
The short version is that she got involved in some crazy stuff when she was in her mid-20's because her dad had gone missing, and when his body was found, there was a bunch of weird stuff with him. It all ended with Haven being tormented by an eldritch monstrosity that turned her into something less than human, an immortal being with black scleras and fractured sanity.
After that, she became a bit of an interdimensional bounty hunter and started hunting down people associated with the entity. She didn't want them to continue to harm people.
Along the way, she ended up accidentally adopting two different children (moreso she tried to get them to someone who could actually take care of them but they got extremely attached to her and refused to leave) and she befriended a phoenix named Fenris. She also had a significant other named Liam at one point, but tragic circumstances left him permanently incapacitated, which really did not help her fragile mental state.
Haven isn't her real name and is just one in a long line of aliases she's used over the centuries, and by the time she started using that name she'd almost completely forgotten her real name.
She's a very grumpy and sarcastic person and tends to come off as excessively violent, aggressive, and hard to work with, but she does have a softer side. It's hard to get to, but it's there.
She appears in a lot of my WIPs (Rot and Ruin and Kiriska's Story being the main ones, but she cameos in a lot of other places) and she does have her own thing I'm planning that isn't really a writing thing so it's never really talked about here, but it goes through her backstory and what happened to her that led to her being turned.

Her metal hand is a prosthetic, and the heterochromia was also a physical side effect of being turned. Originally, both of her eyes were hazel. The dog tags she's wearing belonged to Liam.

6. are your projects driven more by character or plot?
Oh absolutely by the characters! My plots are basic at most as I enjoy just writing the characters (which could be a good or bad thing haha)
22. how much of your own self/experiences do you believe pours into your projects? if this differs per project, which projects have the most and least of you?
So much. I've talked about it briefly before but I tend to use writing and my stories as a way to cope with my own trauma so more often than not, there are plenty of pieces of me in my projects. In fact, Nite & Daye deals with my own mommy issues, and my character Orion was a pretty idealized version of myself in some of his earlier renditions.

Tiffany and Nick are the mains in my (as yet untitled) western wip — she is a former ‘holy healer’ who is pretty aimless when the story starts, and he is a very recent escapee from a cult with ever-increasing power. they’re my little guys and i love them so so much, i devote every waking thought to them
Alessia and Zoya are both guardians from destiny! alessia is a multi-talented woman (primarily a designer, researcher, artist, and museum curator) who is bright and gold and way super hot; zoya is an angry little thing who is made out of blood and fire (not literally) and she is so fun to think about — these two don’t really hang out or interact at all but i love them both very very much c:

Hiiii
I always describe Trishe Horton as a methodical plant enthusiast who's real intense about gardening and farming, bullet journaling/studying, and cooking for her loved ones. She's pan. She has a real soft earthy aesthetic that contrasts so well with her resting bitch face, firm tone, and dark humor.
I attach music genres to my ocs. It's how I make sense of them. Trishe isn't much of a music person (really my only oc where that's the case, pretty wild) but she's in the lofi beats, alt rock and folk rock, international jazz realms with a hint of r&b courtesy of her best friend, Di, another one of my ocs.
Trishe is hilarious to me. Her dialogue is so much fun, especially since her voice is in the lower register and the tone doesn't change too drastically when she speaks. Some examples of dialogue/Trishie actions:
"If I had the grim reaper’s number, I’d send him my location like three times a day. Just in case he wants to make his week a little more spicy. Perhaps break a few rules."
"Gender doesn’t create Haku. Haku creates gender,” Trishe explains. “That’s my claim. Furthermore, Haku is a dragon who disguises himself as an alleged human boy. So, that’s even more evidence that he doesn’t play by the rules of the straights. So, really, he’s genderless. Not androgynous at all if you look at the bigger picture. I can write a whole dissertation on this.”
Trishe would do these tedious dares like “Go outside and pick exactly 40 blades of grass with a pair of tweezers.” Everyone is like “We don’t have a lawn.” Trishe is like, “I’m aware,” with a dead serious face on.
She's very responsible despite how indifferent she is to hearing people describe her as such. She can't deny that she enjoys leading or facilitating things. Her tendency to be straightforward can get her in trouble, but she can and will provide cushion for loved ones whenever someone confronts her about it. Big reveal: She's actually one of my mushiest ocs.
If you ask her, she'll say she values honesty, spirituality and sour cream and onion chips.
Nadji White. This is my baby boy. He's been with me since I was like 13/14, and actually started out as a side character that I used to nurture one of my other characters for a bit, but as Nadj usually does he was like, "Naaaah, I'm stayin lol" and that he did.
Best way I can describe him is goofy new york nigga. Like, for real. He's always been that, but definitely has had some major development this year. Astronomical.
Lets start off with some random facts that come to mind. He's the eldest of four. He's heavy into comics (mainly Marvel) and viddy games. The genres of music I associate him with are (mainly...bc damn, he has so many playlists) diff kinds of rap but especially Chicago rap, funk - most of his music has funk elements, and alt r&b in the steve lacy/frank ocean arena. He also loves trap beats made from gaming music and old cartoon theme songs.
Also, he's very intense about cereal. Ask me to explain his theory about Kix. I dare you.
Nadji draws! Ask him and he'll say he's a graffiti artist first. Started out doing caricature art in high school, then moved to comics and graffiti and street art on both wall and canvas. He has an art collective that he puts together over the years, starting in high school (that I still haven't named lol). They too are my faves.
All of them brought together because of art but they like to think of themselves as a "we do whatever the fuck we feel" kind of crew so there are musicians, actors, and models. There's a photographer/filmmaker, someone crochets and makes rugs, someone does hair, they do comedy sketches, there's a fashion designers, someone paints. another dances. And so on.
Nadj is definitely a problematic fave. He can be a sweetie, but he's so damn mean when he wants to be. As well as selfish. Stupid lol. His growth as a character is one that even surprises me. Oh also should mention he is indeed a part of the alphabet mafia.

From Stars, Bits, and Bytes, "Episode One: Discovery of the Titania":
Lyric jumped in excitement. “We’re getting nearer! Now all we need to do is get past the construction workers.”
Ottava was confused. “How do you suppose we’re gonna do–”
Lyric bounded ahead and stealthily slipped down the rockface.
Ottava sighed. “...that.” She followed after him and eventually they approached the construction site where the spacecraft was.
20. What is a favorite description so far?
Also from the same Stars, Bits, and Bytes chapter:
"After sneaking by relatively unnoticed, they found the spacecraft, once a dot in the distance, but it was now fully visible from its landing platform. The Titania, which was the spacecraft’s given name, stood there boldly, like a valiant warrior posing. The sunlight reflected off the steel blue metal which acted as a barrier to gunfire and laser fire, which further presented the ship’s stature as marvelously momentous. The craft surely was a sight to behold.
The kids seemed to stare into the black abyss which was the cockpit windows spanning across from left to right, getting a slight glimpse at a rainbow of buttons inside the spacecraft. They were taunted by its height; it was like they were standing beneath a titan. Both of them being below average height for a child didn’t help matters in quelling the silent terror of laying their eyes on Titania’s seemingly massive stature as a spacecraft."

The basics:
Working title: The Sun is a Coin, a fairyless tale.
Type: short story, 6.8k words
Status: first draft finished, editing
Genres: fairytale-esque, existential, experimental, hell if I know
The pitch:
The Sun is missing, stolen by a magpie that mistook it for a coin. The Earth still makes her rotation around the dwarf star, but the Sun doesn't rise, not in the right way.
Who notices the difference, and how do they react? What happened to the Coin? How furious is the Moon, and what will he do about all this?
And what in the world happens when a girl tosses the Coin into an unmysterious wishing well?
Themes and such: a story about stories and the power in them, about the wonderous little things and the things that only try to seem big when they aren't and how silly they are, about the joys of being lost and the excitement of finding, about a little bit of everyone and a little bit of everything. Also I've been asked to tell you that an old priest from Connecticut, ex-hippie and retired drag queen, might in fact be God in some endearingly human sense of the word.
What to expect:
As I am not, in fact, drafting, but already procrastinating on editing the draft, I shall post experts of the story and make updates more regularly than I do so for other WIPs, or so I hope.

In Tumblr's continued war against self-advocacy and common sense, they have added "community labels" that automatically filter out mature content from you. Furthermore, even if I don't mark my posts as mature, other people can flag them to have moderators do it for me. I wouldn't have an issue with this if not for the fact that they have everyone's mature content as "invisible" for all users by default.
So, if you want to continue seeing my work, you're going to have to go in your settings and do what I've done here:
"Blur" also works. But it's on "hide" by default, which is extraordinarily absurd.
I'm going to have to start flagging my stuff as mature myself I think because I'm not eager to get banned for random nonsense, so yeah. Set it to at least "blur" or otherwise you won't be able to read my stuff.

wip intro: Shattered Earth
On an alternate Earth full of strange and bizarre horrors, nothing is as it seems. An enemy might be a friend and that stranger with amnesia might be someone you knew all along...

The current date is February 8th 2005; a not so distant past split off from our reality, where the effects of an anomalous comet, superpowered beings, a brief nuclear exchange, a supervolcano eruption, and an alien invasion have the world in a constant state of uncertainty that its only now starting to adjust to. The entire American midwest is a desolate nuclear wasteland. Europe was annihilated and is now completely abandoned. Corporations control every aspect of people’s lives. Global weather systems have been destroyed and the aftermath has left earth in a new ice age. Entire continents have been infected with invasive, man-eating alien wildlife. Humanity is still in the process of recovering from these events, with the help of some not-so-truly empathetic Martian peacekeepers.
Now is a time of monsters.
So what is SE truly about? SE is, ultimately, a sci-fi fantasy, dark comedy, horror action story about killing the monsters. More importantly however, SE is a story about two teenagers having to grow up way too fast in a world that stubbornly refuses to end, in order to survive everything it throws at them.
Status: Almost entirely planned (Arc 1 is at least); Outlining, scripting

Format: I’m planning for SE to be a webcomic, so I’ll mostly be posting scripts, sketches, and from time to time some practice comic pages :3

NAME: Desmond Oswald Arkady
DOB: November 30th, 1991; 14 years of age
HISTORY: Son of rancher Sloane Arkady and medical nurse Ed Arkady, and unknowing grandnephew of the famous superscientist Lupe Altena. Has two older siblings and one younger sister. Throughout grade school Desmond was noted for having poor social skills and having a severe temper; he was bullied and very much alone during this time. His mother was emotionally and physically absent while his father became emotionally and verbally abusive as he grew older. Eventually his parents split, Ed taking Desmond and his brother Jerome, with Sloane (under legal definition) ‘kidnapping’ their younger sister Zuri. Oldest sibling “Happy”’s whereabouts are unknown. In 2003 abnormal brain wave activity was reported, benign; his temper somewhat subsided. The remnants of the family moved to the NEC in late 2004.
Desmond’s above-average school grades have currently led to him attending the Promethean School of Science under the tutelage of one infamous Dr. Maya Fontaine. He seems to have an interest in all things biomedical and mechanical.
OCCUPATION: Officially listed as a part-time bowling alley attendant at Crimson Head Lanes. Unofficially: errand boy and lookout for the criminal body behind the bowling alley.
ORIGIN: A small black earth town in former Kentucky known only as “Carbonville” that no longer exists.
Last Known Whereabouts: Lives in NEC, DUSA.
Identifying Characteristics: African-American, mole on left cheekbone, shaved dark brown hair, late bloomer in terms of height at just 5 feet tall, noticeably overweight and stocky. Known to almost constantly fiddle with his hands due to reported hypersensitive dermis and nerve damage stemming from contact with a wildfire some years before.
PSYCH: Annoyingly positive attitude that hides a deep, festering rage. An overbearing people pleaser almost to the point of submission. Desperate for validation and a sense of belonging. Chronically low self-esteem. Extreme levels of anxiety. Is repressing serious anger issues to the point of migraines and blackouts. Possible case of undiagnosed autism. Easy to intimidate and manipulate.
NAME: Francis T. Mueller
DOB: August 1990; 15 years of age
History: One of the many thousands of Chimera children of the Martian King Azelfafage, Francis was raised by her human mother Roxanne Mueller. Her mother being a drug addict and abusive, Francis from an early age found herself doing any odd job she could to simply feed herself, which soon escalated to working for the assassins guild, Antumbra for a short time at the young age of 10, and working as a bodyguard and gunner for various drug dealers up until the age of 12.
At 9 years old she experienced a medical “accident” that resulted in a severe case of dissociative amnesia.
Police records in 2003 indicate that after her release from brief juvenile custody, Francis worked her way up from petty thug to where she is now working for Crimson Head Lanes. Conflicting reports state that Francis was “handed over” to CHL and is working for them unwillingly by use of either force or threat.
Occupation: Officially listed as a bowling alley attendant at Crimson Head Lanes. Unofficially: hitman thought to be employed by CHL owner Carmine Keller, as well as gunner, enforcer, and more recently the bodyguard of fellow coworker Desmond Arkady.
Origin: NEC, DUSA.
Last Known Whereabouts: NEC, DUSA.
Identifying Characteristics: Curly red hair and freckled dark brown skin like all Chimera. Crimson red teeth. Androgynous/masculine facial and body structure, usually mistaken for a male. Magenta eyes on yellow that in a highly unusual case shift to white on black in low-light settings, a possible case of intersexism or a mutation. Identifies as a transgender female. Over 6 feet tall and malnourished for a half-alien child.
Psych: Mentally and emotionally unstable, a possible case of borderline personality disorder and even sociopathy. Possibly suffers from a panic or anxiety disorder as well. A loner, dangerous, known for violent mood swings and outbursts. Suffers from dissociative amnesia, PTSD, and alcoholism.

**Unfortunately, in the world this comic’s set in (the world ‘ended’ in the 1960s), people aren’t very accepting or understanding of different sexual orientations. Actually, peeps aren’t very accepting in general. It’s a distrust of foreign cultures and ideas, mostly, mixed with good old fashioned repressed victorian standards and ideals.
The only worse thing worse for your career/life in this universe is to be labelled a stinkin’ commie.

Hello! I hope you're having a great day <3
I honestly had quite a few that fit the bill but I think I'll go with Mercy!
Basically Mercy is from a cyberpunk-esque story with child/teen gangs and secret organizations. The story is pretty underdeveloped and the character himself is overly developed so I don't have much to say haha. But Mercy is one of two people who manage an area of the city that's deemed a neutral space where no fighting is allowed. Mainly because of Mercy's counterpart but even Mercy has a name for himself. There's a reason he's called Mercy (since no one knows his real name). He rarely speaks and always wears a gas mask that covers half his face. He also has a head of white hair that has been the cause of many rumors but was pretty much brought up from a Marie Antoinette Syndrome sort of deal. I'm not sure what to say other than he's a quiet kid who can be absolutely terrifying but also caring too.

I saw a post going around by @maguayans about making a year-in-review post, and it looked too fun for me to resist!
It hasn’t quite been an entire year for me. I started this account on January 18th, but the time has flown right by! I think it’s good to reflect, and this is the time of year for it, that’s for sure. I didn’t want to do it Spotify-style, so here we are. Just the bare bones.
On Writing
This year really marks the start of my taking my work as a writer much more seriously. It was also the first time I was paid for my writing (!!!). I opened commissions, although I only sold any to people I knew. I only published one piece of fanfiction this year, in January--just a little study of Silco and Jinx from Arcane. But I have a couple others that I’ve been fiddling with to keep me loose that I might even finish one day.
In April, my husband and I launched our Patreon, and as of this month, we’ve released nine volumes of The Bishop of Black with a 10th on the way! We managed to put out a new volume every month, along with bonus side-stories. I’m very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish together.
In the summer, I came down with some terrible Gorr the Butcher brainrot, but the fic isn’t finished. It is, if I do say so myself, rather good, though. I also immediately became obsessed with Alchemy of Souls, but that fic isn’t finished either. I haven’t had an awful lot of free time, just in general, this year. I’ve struggled to make dedicated time for my projects.
This blog has also begun to grow quite well! I reached my first major milestone in October, did a very fun giveaway, and then smashed that milestone to absolute bits. This, I attribute chiefly to the miraculous accident of a post that I made at 2am escaping containment.
I did make an attempt at pushing out a few more words in November, but came away with a little more than 5 000 on RAVENOT, which is more progress than I’ve made in some time. I also released a polished first chapter, which stands as a sort of pilot for the project. Some folx were even kind enough to drop a little tip in my jar for it, which was lovely.
I did get some little drabbles out, too. So I think I’ve been sneaking out the words fairly well this year.
And that’s about it for 2022, as far as my writing goes. I wasn’t able to really get back to my bookmaking, but I’m getting pretty handy with Affinity Publisher and that’s got to count for something.
On the Future
I’d like to try to commit to a few things for 2023. Here’s the list:
+ complete a draft of one WIP for 2023 (spoiler alert: it’s going to be RAVENOT)
+ read every day
+ dedicate time to writing every week (collaboratively, and solo)
+ consistently include IDs for images in original posts
+ get back to bookmaking! I’ve been making nothing but x-folds and pamphlet stitches and it’s making me wilt
