Ruggie: *opens door* Hey Leona, you here? Vil needs... you... uhm...

Ghostmon: *whisper* Dunno, but honestly wouldn’t mind it. That man needs ALOT of support.
[ Takes place during Magicam Monsters event ]
Fangmon: Hey Ruggie, look what I got.
Ruggie: What is it Fangmon?
Ruggie: ... Are those, wallets?
Fangmon: Yeah, they fell off when we scared them, there’s enough cash here to last us at least two months for lunch.
Ruggie: Fangmon, as much as that would help us we can’t steal the Magicam Monsters’ money.
Fangmon: But-
Ruggie: Now if they lost half of their money, there’s nothing we could do about except take it to the police. But if nobody claims it, we can get it in just a few weeks.
Fangmon: Ohhh, gotcha!
Mob Student 1: Should, should we do something?
Mob Student 2: Nah, damn Monsters deserve it.
Gaomon: Come on Deuce! Are you really going to be defeated that easily!?
Deuce: No!

i enjoyed it more then the revice summer movie, shame like pretty much all mid series sentai movies its basically just an ep with a bigger budget
2. Ultraman Decker
MUCH IMPROVED OVER TRIGGER IN LIKE EVERY AREA, INCLUDING ITS USE OF KENGO. only real complaint i have is them revealing the Spheres motivations minutes before they are destroyed but thats a fairly minor thing looking at the show as a whole
3.ultraman: mystery of ultraseven
great stuff continuing the momentum of the last mini series, i do have issues with the ultra comic verse that dont get addressed, but regardless it was a great read, interested to see ma boi ace show up in whatever is next
4.kingdom hearts dark road
one of my fav KH stories, elevating xehanort alot, giving insight into how his beliefs formed and i absolutely need this freed from its mobile prison and given the back cover treatment

it was pretty good, if the main series is a 10 this is like an 8, pretty fun time.
7.Avataro Sentai Donbrothers
i was sceptical as FUCK when this was announced, and inoue and the producer were saying how they wanted to make a sentai season that was a comedy drama aimed at 20somethings, but fuck did they land it. top 3 sentai seasons for sure. taro is my boi somethings like how under written murasame is, alot of the stuff with kijino and the zenkai gears turning into avataro gears plotline that was seemingly dropped ( if the Vs movie addresses this i take back the last one) bothered me, but as a whole i really liked this season

this series goes hard. i love the cast and i think more people should read this.
9. Agents of mayhem - dropped got about 8/27 missions thought this.

the cars feel awful, esthetical it wants to be overwatch soo bad. in the 4hrs 40mins i played enemies became spongy as shit and the second gat mission bugged turning 3 waves into infante

no "which ones the real one" plot is good. i screamed when they revealed the twist.

its pretty good when all is said and done, 90% of this show is very solid MOTW/horror mystery stories with all the cryptic build up they have been seeding since ep 1 being all burned thought in the last 3eps.defo feels like they were trying to set up a movie with that last second alien reveal too. since most of its stand alone mysteries, the humans done really feel like they grow much over the course of the show its still a very fun time like an 8/10 id say love gammamon, they baby

very fun movie, seeker really is that bitch in fortnite that builds a replica tadj mahall the second a fight starts. yeah a good ass time.

it was alright, pretty fun moments with one line in particular that kinda took me out, the Drive cameos and call backs were great and honestly out of all the over demons/vail retools i think i like orteca's rider form the most out them
24. netflix Ultraman season 3 the final:
kinda mixed on it if im honest, i dont think theres ever really been a great "shapeshifters turn the publics opinion on it" and i wasnt super impressed with aspects of how Rena was written
that said the last 2 episodes really were peak.

Digi-partner: Abayomis
So Digimon are weird there are official lines, but in lore usually in theory any digimon has the potential to become anyone. Which means it can be really fun, similar to building a Pokemon team that represents you. You can try to stick to an important theme or can use each stage to represent another different aspect of you. I'm gonna create a line that I think is fun, has some thematic connections and color cohesion. And Since each digimon doesn't necessarily stick to one through-line, i'm gonna pick one child/rookie and then give two distinct lines that go in a different direction.
ROOKIE! Junkmon
Junkmon I feel like has a lot of potential as a partner digimon. He evokes plushie qualities which means there is an immediate connection to a child partner. But it has a frankly scrappy and mischievous quality, then again the helmet also gives me a protective quality and makes me think of a dependable blue collar worker Has a lot of potential. He also makes me think of the friends we would make exploring the Junk in our Aunts basement as we did laundry. It's also a fun mixture of animal and inanimate objects. That nature, and its plushie nature also is a reason why I think it would be a good representation of us. ( also can you imagine a cute little Butch Junkmon anthro.)
FIRST DIGIVOLUTION LINE:
CHAMPION/ADULT: Komondomon
Komondomon builds on a lot of fun aspects its very animalistic kind of like agiant dog creature, but built into it is more inanimate objects, it's a whole vehicle now. Very friendly, very useful and reliable.
ULTIMATE/PERFECT
Locomon
Locomon will be a brief yet important shift to reach the final cohesion of the line. AT this point our body has shifted hard into inanimate, but the sides of Locomon are evocative of the claws of Junkmon, and it keeps the transportation vehicle nature of Komondomon
MEGA/ULTIMATE:
Heavyleomon
Heavyleomon brings alot of the strong colors of Junkmon back, at this point they are mostly object with only a small animal theme for an aesthetic, it has wheels and other aspects that call back to the previous two stages. Very buly, very strong complete robot. It is delightful.
BUT We have another direction, a softer aspect to explore.
DIGIVLUTION LINE 2
CHAMPION/ADULT
Nohemon
Nohemon focusing on keeping the Plushie part but moves away from the more animaly specific vibe of its counterpart Komondomon. Or astleast at face value. The crow is the actual true form, noe beaver to crow is a big deal but I think the stuffed creature/fabric aspect keeps the vibes going. The fun hat is also a nice little callback
ULTIMATE/PERFECT
Monzaemon (with honorary mention of Monzaemon x)
Monzaemon is a creature that exists in a plushie suit, and thats a perfect representation of me. Monzaemon x Antibody, makes the creature some sort of perfect love goo creature, and it is the literal embodiment of me. Maybe a form or slide evolution based onit could be a aprt of the line. If I was a digimon that stayed in one form it would be Monzaemon x antibody. A slime and a plushie.
MEGA/PERFECT
Pinochimon
Pinochiomon is a toy themed mega. It would be the perfect choice for me. It is also a neat because it brings a bunch of callbacks, it also have a hat like Junkmon and Nohemon. It mainly being made of wood is a call-back to the straw of Nohemon and the beaver elements of Junkmon being associated with wood. It is also a toy that brings up the conection to Monzaemon and some of Junkmon.
I couldn't find anything for the clay vibes for me that felt like it fit into the lines. But i'm pretty happy

Plot to Digimon AU
Just realised i need to write the plot out or the characters wont make sense xd. I cant write stories in detail so this will be like a extended summary i guess. Will write KH AU and the combined AU in another post.
Digital World and Real World are separate. Lucemon decides to create Chimeramon which goes rogue and evolves to Millleniummon. Yggdrasil orders the Royal Knights to kill Milleniummon. Lucemon wants the Demon Lords to stop the Knights. Big fight happens and the barrier between worlds are broken. Digimons gets yeeted to the Real World incluing some of the Royal Knights and Demon Lords. Due to some reason (aka plot magic) Beelzemon and Alphamon gets turned into humans. They try to survive in the Real World while trying to send Digimons back to the Digital World. Gets human partners along the way. Meets Yura and finds out even other servers in the Digital World are affected. Belle shows up and wants to kill Ryou cuz revenge. Eventually they have to go back to the Digital World cuz things are getting worse. They meet the Royal Knights and find out they managed to kill Milleniummon but the Digital World is still becoming more unstable. Eventually they find MoonMilleniummon corrupting the Digital World, the Demon Lords stops them from killing MoonMilleniummon, Lucemon wants to use MoonMilleniummon as a weapon to invade and rule the Real World. They fight the Demon Lords and Lucemon nearly kills Chizuru. Beelzemon gets The Big Mad and becomes The Beast of the Apocalyse. Lucemon steals the sins of the Demon Lords to transform into his Shadowlord Mode and kills The Beast of the Apocalyse. The kids + Alphamon and Dianamon retreat, they think Beelzemon is dead. He actually lost his powers and devolved to Impmon since Lucemon took his sin. MoonMilleniummon manages to Digivolve into ZeedMilleniummon and starts destroying the Digital World. The Royal Knights tries to stop ZeedMilleniummon but fails. BelleStarrmon finds Impmon but instead of killing him she brings him back to Chizuru. Impmon manages to convince Lucemon to stop ZeedMilleniummon and give him his sin back. Final battle against ZeedMilleniummon happens and they defeat him (idk how, with the power of love and friendship?) but the Digital Worlds been too damaged that its going to crash and shut down. Beelzemon, Alphamon and Dianamon manage to send Chizuru, Makoto and Sayu back to the Real World before the shutdown, trapping themselves in the Digital World. The kids are sad and try to go back to the Digital World but are unable to and they move on.
You can tell which parts I've thought on alot xd. I'll come back and update/edit once ive figured out more plot points.

What are the headcanons for the leaders on the fanfic?
Putting this under a readmore since its a bit spoilery ;)
Alrigyty Angsty first:
Taichi from adventure and Taichi from Vtamer are the same person. His memories were altered since he was needed as the chosen of courage and he wouldnt have been able to do his job as a chosen if he still remembered everything else. His partner Zero is still there calling for him after all this time but Taichi cant recall. He dreams about flying sometimes but hes never sure why.
Manga Taiki amd Anime Taiki are also the same. ZeedMilleniumon in the Manga tore the timestream apart and in an effort to fix it Taikis first travel and Kotone Amano got erased. He went through the Xros Wars twice but doesnt remember. A few remnants of the first timeline survived but well, who knows if Taiki will remember at all.
Takuya and Agnimon parted but Agnimons powers are still intact within Takuya. Hes flame and heat resistent. Since he spend alot of time as a Digimon he adapted to their way of life and suddenly being back in the human world messed with his head. His classmates call him weird but Takuya doesnt care.
Daisuke and his power of Miracles is the light that makes evolutions possible. Callumon shares this gift but cant use it offensively. Daisuke doesnt know this of course but well, evolution is a miracle no matter how it is achieved in the digiworld.
Takato has the full capacity to destroy Digimon in their entiret. If he snaps the digital hazard will destroy the entire Digiworld. Dreaper but in 100 times as deadly. Takato is aware of Guilmons power but not his own. He is afraid of losing himself tho, Megidramon is one of his biggest nightmares.
Tagiru feels like he still isnt worthy of the goggles. He wasnt the first choice, he didnt see the betrayal coming and he feels a deep rooted resentment in his heart against Ryouma. In his eyes he is nothing lije the Superstar he looked up to.
(Tagiru doesnt know that Taiki still has pain in his chest where the wespon hit, he doesnt heal like a digimon. The less Tagiru knows the better)
And now fluff:
Masaru has higher endurance and more energy due to his digisoul. Hes incapable of sitting still for more than a minute and eating is necessary or he collapses like taiki does alot. Extremely good at languages, learnt the digimon language after 2 weeks of staying in the digiworld permanently. He enjoys fighting for that reason: it burns the energy he has to much of (adhd masaru lets go) Masaru can and will pick people up without warning. No one is safe.
Taichi and Taiki are the defacto leaders of the group. They often push themselves to make sure everyone stays safe which results in collapsing(Taiki) and suddenly sleeping while standing(Taichi).
Takuya has a fever base heat. He never feels cold anymore ;) Daisuke clings to him whenever its cold haha
Takato has an entire sketchbook dedicated to drawing things the others tell him. Oh a town made entirely out of cake? Describe it so i can draw it. Its a beautifull keepsake thats filled with every good memory they can find.
Taiki is a worrywart. As a general he has to make sure everyone is safe so he frets over them like a hen. Additionaly hes a very good musician, but he cant sing to save his life.
Tagiru is extremely athletic! Climbing is one of his hobbies and he isnt afraid of heights. Managed to get Masaru to teach him how to fight and enjoys it greatly. Loves reading but is afeaid of getting teased so he doesn't talk about it, has a huge stack of books tho.

I finished binging Frontier and it felt so bittersweet. I like that it focused alot on the friendship with the kids, but it kind of felt empty they didn't have partner Digimon. Also ngl, it sucked how the Royal Knights had been destroying everything and how they couldn't help those Digimon.
I really wish they had focused a biit on the spirits and how they used to be their own people(digimon) maybe showing us their friendship dynamic as being similar
I'm personally okay with the lack of partners in this season since each kid Did have a bonding moment with a digimon on their own time
Zoe with the Floramon, Kouji had Gottsumon, JP had the Tsunomon (can't remember the other two off the top of my head I am very hungry at the moment lol)
Like especially at the end when they get to speak to their spirits for a few brief moments it really would've been nice and impactful
I love frontier to pieces it's my second favorite season, it's concept and it's settings I think were and still are incredibly fun. It just really needs a re-imagining. I've read a bunch of people's ideas for an AU/re-write/reboot of Frontier and a lot are really great

I’ve found the interview! Or parts of it
Other fun points beyond Claude’s real name.
A lot of my headcanons have been confirmed!
Silver Snow was the first route written (maybe that’s why it’s the weakest? It took them a while to find their Mojo)
El wasn’t just a driving figure in the plot but also in the writing process, ie, the other lords were then developed as contrasts.
Dimitri’s eyepatch was also improv apparently one person just randomly suggested it halfway through, the original model was then used for CF. It was intended to show that he had a hard life in the last 5 years
They say they took some influence from “Romance of the Three Kingdoms”
CF was indeed intended as a “secret” hidden route holding a distinct place - it was originally supposed to be harder to unlock - they also underestimated how many players would always go explore on the first day (apparently the option is only open in the first day - which makes sense, later she’s already departed)
Edelgard is indeed Byleth’s foil/ counterpart / rival / contrast as someone with roughly equal power
So developement wise you might draw some parallels to Elsa (the developers gradually realized this character had more potential as a hero than a villain/ was actually pretty sympathetic - part of why they made joining her easier) and also Rika from Digimon Tamers (they realized the figurines of the girl characters didn’t sell, so they made the primary girl the ‘rival character’ which always sells. Rika was indeed hugely popular, probably because your average anime ‘rival character’ tends to be complex, cool, and one of the most powerful chars in the setting)
Lysithea was indeed just a prototype, Edelgard had a much more advanced procedure done on her (hence why she generally seems a lot more “super”)
They originally planned for her to be able to stop/interfere with divine pulse but that didn’t end up making it into the final game
You have to consider that a game is not a book or a movie - something might be a cool concept on its own but if its implementation is annoying to the player it’s worthless
However I will take this as confirmation to my headcanon that she has some mild timewarping going on, and that this is what happens when she can attack multiple times (as per ‘raging storm’ or in her Hegemon form)
That really IS Sothis on the mural
An aspect that I didn’t personally consider but adds to my observations of how Rhea is a really interesting take on the concept of a demigod: They stress that to her Sothis doesn’t just represent her mother but also the creator/ her god. She very much does worship her and has goals beyong just wanting back a family member
(Indeed she does tell Byleth that she can’t wait until “Our creator rules this wayward land once more”)
And here’s yet another account of the war of heroes. In this i must admit defeat because others called this and I didn’t:
The Nabateans were in fact ruling over humans, and people were in fact resisting/standing up to that
The Agarthans having their own sinister motives, invented the methods to make crests/ relics
At this point you DO get greed and powerlust involved - people like Nemesis started trying to kill dragons to gain their power left and right and the balance of power shifted
Rhea didn’t so much “make” the Elites into heroes - The (human) people really did see them as liberators and that was too big to change, so Seiros kept the broad strokes manipulating the details so that all tied back to the goddess.
So they replaced an aristocracy of Nabateans by an aristocracy of people with Nabatean-like powers. There’s an interesting dynamic here
So Edelgard was almost completely right.

That said I still get the impression that Nemesis was definitely in it for the power and still massacred civilians. He’s like the Ten Elites’ secretly evil teammate.
So on the one hand, Rhea didn’t do this unscrupulous act of making people she hates into heroes just for control, on the other hand the war of Heroes was alot more muddy
On the other hand this makes Silver Snow a bad end in my book. “Happiness in Slavery”.
I did talk about how SS didn’t have Byleth growing out of their character flaws the ways the other routes, but now... wow they were a tool until the end
I still can’t believe that Sothis, Seteth or Flayn are evil though, Sothis seems compassionate and disliked Rhea’s methods - but was she even around then, actually? Because she was asleep for a long time after the war with the Agarthans. So the Nabateans, perhaps already under Rhea’s leadership, were already semi-corrupt.
(That obviously doesn’t justify slaughtering them all down to the last child - Zanado was the civilian population)
Seteth might have been as much of a tool now as then. Though I still hold to my opinion that he’s the last one to hold to Sothis’ “real” mission - which was guard not rule
Of course Rhea believed almost to the last that guarding was precisely what she was doing
Heavens this has so many layers and complexities I love it I want to make a full drawn out novel based on a similar premise
That said they specify very clearly that Seiros and co really did just want to keep the peace. They are benevolent/ paternalistic overlords basically
Almyra seems to have an “Ottoman Harem” situation going on where the King has multiple wives and the heir is whoever is worthiest/strongest rather than the eldest. So from the beginning Claude had many rivals as if the bullying he experienced wasn’t bad enough
So Claude/Khalid is different from Dimitri who was always the rightful crown prince, and Edelgard who never expected to inherit and suddenly found herself catapulted up the line of succession. For him it was always a “maybe”.
This is an interesting contrast to Edelgard. Her father also had many concubines but it seems she had a good relationship with her siblings regardless.
“He won’t hesitate to plea for his life and considers survival as the ultimate victory. That’s also why Claude is the character who survives in every route. “
The original plan was to slip up and have Nader call him the wrong name. i see why they cut it, it would make everyone involved look like they don’t take the situation seriously
The moment in non-GD routes where he couldn’t predict that Hilda and Judith would sacrifice themselves is ascribed to him “having different values than the people in fodlan”. Ouch. So good at reading people but the cultural difference still bit him in the ass at the worst possible moment.
If you see the Church as Seiros as an analogue to a corrupt medieval church, this certainly fits with the common observation by ppl of different backgrounds that christian countries tend to have an undercurrent of glorifying suffering and self-sacrifice in ways that seem masochistic to ppl from other backgrounds or even local non-believers
The beard was supposed to make him look “adventurous”

Oh this one’s so good.
12. the timeline in which they had a person in their life when they needed one the most
There are a couple places that would change everything so drastically, but I the one I’m going to go with is: Takeru grows up with Yamato.
Takeru Ishida is still little, and even if both of his parents work and come home tired he doesn’t mind because Yamato is there so he’s never really alone.
Version 1: They hang out and have a good relationship, and he grows up generally happy.
Summer Camp’s in Japan are grade based as opposed to age based like they are in the US, but let’s say for the sake of argument and to give Yamato a break from being a responsible older brother their parents arrange for Takeru to stay with his Grandma in Shimane instead so he’ll have his own awesome adventure stories to tell Yamato when they come home. He misses the first half of the Digital Adventure entirely. Assuming everything else stays the same, Tokomon is still with the other 6 kids and knows that Takeru is his partner. Maybe Tokomon is able to evolve naturally over time, like how Gatomon does. The 6 could probably defeat Devimon with a little more prep time, and Etemon is still defeated with the Ultimate evolutions so we’re all good.
Things get harder to figure out once the kids come back to Tokyo. If Angemon evolved naturally like Gatomon, the ‘stuffed animal’ ploy by the kids doesn’t work. Plus we just have an angel flying around Tokyo and just hanging at Yamato’s apartment when his parents get home. We’ve got 2 kids missing, one known one unknown. The Digidestined in all likelihood have Takeru’s tag/crest and digimon and Myotismon has Hikari’s. It’s a race to not only find the 8th child, but also to get Takeru back in town (assuming after everything that’s happened in the Digiworld Yamato even wants to go get him. He’d be the only one who actually knows where Takeru is after all he could just. leave him). Shimane is 7 hours away from Tokyo by train, 8.5 hours by car, 3 hours by plane. How are we gonna get an 11 year old that far and back? There’s a 3 day window from the time they get back to Japan through the Tokyo attack. If we only send Yamato, Gabu and Pata/Angemon to get Takeru, they’re going to show back up after Hikari has been revealed as the 8th child and Wizardmon has died. Literally the whole crew has been traumatized at this point by the adventure except Takeru. The rest of the adventure would happen basically as expected regarding major plot points.
But if Yamato chooses to leave Takeru in Shimane, they’re boned. The only reason they beat Piedmon in the series is because of MagnaAngemon. It’s at this point that I think we’d have to just, throw the original timeline out and do something different. This version of Takeru would absolutely never punch Ken, so he can’t be used to show Iori about how the world isn’t just black and white.
Version 2: Yamato and Takeru fight. Alot.
Takeru is already a bit of a bratty kid in that way that younger siblings can be. Yamato would be expected to watch him while their parents work all day, and that’s exhausting. If his mom were just a stay at home mom like most Japanese mom’s are expected to be she’d be able to be there and Yamato could be a kid. But she’s not so now he’s growing up resenting his mom and arguing with his little brother who cries whenever he doesn’t get his way. Takeru goes to summer camp, to Yamato’s annoyance, and the whole digital adventure happens basically on time, but with Yamato fighting Takeru almost as much as the rest of the team. We get to see that Takeru is an emotionally manipulative little shit way earlier in the series, and the other kid’s don’t understand why they don’t get along. Their arc is still about figuring out what being family really is, but just shifted slightly to the left. Takeru grows up, Yamato chills out. Does that resentment ever really go away though? No idea.

RE that zim/anpanman post - while Anpanman doesn't get as dark in tone, Baikinman regularly tries to kill people and has done things like tear pages out of an anthropomorphic book and make food-based characters spoil and rot. Not as gruesome as doing it to "real people" characters but that's not the point really; the idea behind it is still there, so Japanese kids are just very accustomed to an alien being that sadistic within the context of their series
First of all, I should point out I agree that Japanese kids are probably used to seeing more intense stuff on TV than american ones. Alot of shows like Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece, Digimon and even Pokemon occasionally are known for having stuff edited out of the english dub. A pretty decent number of shonen series just flat out get marketed to an older audience in the states (stuff for kids in japan being aimed at middle schoolers here, stuff for teens being aimed at adults etc.)
Hell, I’m fairly certain Dragon Ball Z and Tenchi Muyo probably would have been marketed to adults in the US if it came out today too (Former for the violence, latter for the sexual stuff) and only got away with as much they did because they were on cable, and the idea that kids anime could appeal to adults simply hadn’t occurred to most western producers at that point.
I just…. Dont really think Anpanman is a good example of this? I also dont agree with the original poster’s Zim comparison. Granted, I suppose I probably should watch the show, but from everything I have seen of it, such as discussions on Bogleech’s website, it doesn’t seem that much edgier than standard kids show? Definitely a bit weirder and more violent than most preschool shows in the states, but overall, I doesn’t sound like Baikinman is much worse the your average kids cartoon villain.
I mean for starters, its pretty standard in kids media for killing and mutilating for non-human characters to be allowed, especially if said characters don’t have blood or flesh.
The obvious example is robots. Star Wars, Transformers, Doctor Who, Superman, Green Lantern, Teen Titans, Xiaolin Showdown, Age of Ultron, - There are way too many shows, comics and movies to list that eithor aimed at kids or families, that have robots and cyborgs being torn apart in ways that would be pretty graphic if it happened to humans or animals.
Digimon is a related example - The only reason the franchise is allowed to have as much death as it does is because 99% of the fatalities happen to digital lifeforms that dissolve into pixels upon death.
Hell one of my favorite movies as a child was the original Toy Story, and all the scenes where Sid was mutilating and blowing up his toys would have gotten a hard R rating if he was doing it to people. I’ve heard a lot of people compare Sid to Dr. Frankenstein, but with toys, but at least Dr. Frankenstein used parts that were already dead (as opposed to tearing/cutting apart still living people) and put them together in a shape roughly resembling a human. Really, Sid’s toys are less Frankenstein and more human centipede.
I also remember Fosters Home for Imaginary friends having a similar reoccuring theme of “food friends” meeting a worse fate than Anpanman. This included half eaten, traumatized anthropomorphic food dreamed up by kids in stuck in fat camp, or a talking pizza dreamed up by the bully character and eaten and killed just seconds after being “born”
So, although obviously dark comedy, Baikinman doing those things isn’t really anything new for childrens media. Neither, is trying to kill someone, since a lot of cartoon villains have made serious attempts to kill people, they just never succeed.
But Zim successfully mutilating and removing the organs and body parts of human children is definitely not normal for a kids show.
Another issue I took with Revretch’s post was that she wasn’t just talking about Zim the character, she seemed to me to be claiming that “Invader Zim” the TV series wouldn’t be seen as edgy just because the main character is similar to Baikenman… but thats not really how it works? You can’t necessarily tell the tone of a show, just from the nature of its protagnist.
Like, by that logic, Courage the Cowardly Dog should be one of the most light hearted and kid friendly shows out there, but in actuality the world he inhabits is much, much darker, scarier and more surreal than Courage himself is.
Its true that, though the writers/network let Zim do much worse stuff on screen, there are plenty of other childrens cartoon characters whose personality is pretty similar to Zim, or whom are a lot creepier and more threatening. Mojo Jojo and HIM from the powerpuff girls are good examples of both of these, respectively.
In fact, Powerpuff Girls, Xiaolin Showdown, Codename: Kids Next Door, Danny Phantom and plenty of other childrens cartoons all have both villains that are similar to Zim, and villains that are considerably more evil, creepy or serious than Zim ever was, but the tone of these shows, overall, is a relatively more optimistic one, where the main protagonists have more or less happy lives and good always triumphs over evil in the end.
Hell, even Gravity Falls, with its use of creepy horror imagery, occasional forays into adult humor, and having one of the most infamous big bads in childrens animation (and easily my favorite from the last 10 years) remains a fairly optimistic show at its core, about family and summer adventures.
This is not the case with Invader Zim, which is a show where humans as a species are portrayed as so comically stupid and mean spirited that, even if Zim somehow successfully killed or enslaved them all, it probably wouldn’t come across as a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
A show where the Irkens are depicted both commiting genocide, and electrocuting a disobedient slave on screen, and whose society is such a dystopia they are forced to udergo intense military training from birth and generally assigned roles for life based on genetics.
A show where the elementary skool is portrayed as a collection of all the absolute worst aspects of public school, both in terms of how its run, and how the kids treat each other, exaggerated to an absurd degree.
A show where a reoccurring joke character is a homeless man, who got taken advantage by a fast food chain, paid in free pizza and a room in the back of a resturant, became morbidly obese (Yes, this is Bloaty’s canon origin story) and was last seen in the original show sobbing uncontrollably because he hates his life.
Also, although this was obviously changed significantly in the comics and the Enter the Florpus special, in regards to what was portrayed in the original show, its really not difficult to make the argument Dib’s own dad and sister don’t give a shit whether or not he lives or dies.
Of course, this was all done for very dark laughs, as well as to create a setting that was just the right balance of humor and nihilism that the viewer could choose to either root for, laugh at or sympathize with either Zim or Dib without really worrying about the actual moral implications of either sides goals.
I’m not saying Zim is the edgiest show out there, comedic or otherwise. With stuff like Warhammer, Berserk, Venture Bros, Metalocalypse and all manner of gritty 90s anihero comics, Zims pretty light hearted and goofy in comparison.
But for childrens animation? Aside from some of the 90’s “grossout” cartoons like Ren & Stimpy and Cow & Chicken (which varied a lot in quality, imo) I can’t really think of any others that come close (Maaaaybe Billy & Mandy, but I think its too tonally inconsistant, with a lot of episodes being pretty standard cartoon slapstick.)
Wow, I sure did type a lot. Sorry about that. But Invader Zim is one of my all time favorite shows, and fictional villains one of my favorite topics, so I feel like I have a lot to say about them.

Dream job: I’ve had alot of dream jobs...but I feel like cause I really like helping people of all ages..like..I wanted to be an anime artist when I was a teen...then wanted to be a florist...a counselor...actually started a course on it until I couldn’t do it and had to quit because lots of stuff went down..bad stuff..and a whole bunch of other things throughout the years til I became a carer for my grandmother for 24/7 literally. And as exhausting it was for those 5 years (I had to stop cause mental health reasons that I still to this day have) I’ve decided I like helping people and went and got my Cert 3 in Individual Support for the elderly and am now wanting to do Cert 4 in Disability. I want to learn more because my youngest sister has Autism and I find that and Dementia just so fascinating despite how it not pretty it is.
Dream trip: Japan mainly and take my boo there for his anime pleasures LOL And just learn about the culture I’d love to see Ireland and Scotland and other places but beech I’m a broke woman

Books: The Lord Of The Rings, Z for Zachariah, Waterfire, Vampire Academy Books.. SO MANY BOOKS LOL I mean I even love to nowdays just read Fanfiction of my fave shows anime and tv alike! Like its amazing how creative people can be!
Films/Movies: Well I gotta say classics like Jaws, Deep Blue Sea, The Alien franchise, Predator (Even the AVP stuff) Tau, Marvel, there’s alot of movies I like too LOL but the genre is mainly rom comedy, thriller scary stuff. I watched the latest It movies and I liked the first one more then Chapter 2 but I was happy Ben finally got his girl in the end lol I’m looking forward to watching Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. And then I love like Disney films like Moana, Tangled and the classics that I grew up with like Little Mermaid etc Frozen 2 looks interestingly better then the first so yeah lol
Shows: Hmm... I’m currently watching Supernatural, American Horror Story and Dr Who lol But I love Buffy the vampire series and Friends...Stargate...Orange is the New Black..and then I like fail cooking shows like Nail it lol And then I have all my anime I watch LOL
Games: I grew up like alot of older simmers round my age and older the Sims 1 and Sim City, Mario Bro 2 on Nintendo 64 , Resident Evil 1, 2 3 and Outbreak File #2 on Ps1 and 2 (Love Resident Evil) Final Fantasy 7 on Ps1, Parasite Eve 2 on Ps1 ... I also loved to play Pokemon on the gameboy that my cousin owned lol I remember playing a Digimon game on I think ps1? Oh I played Alien Isolation that was such fun...I played Grand Theft Auto throughout my childhood on Ps2 and then GTA5 I mainly though played Sims 1 and then later on Sims 2 and 3 til Sims 4 came out.
Play any instruments? I used to play keyboard in Music class that was like part of an assessment in highschool but mainly I just like to sing however bad/good I am LOL

Part 1/2
ENFP
One of my best friend from second grade onwards. Knows basically everyone and their cats. Drove 2 hours in the middle of night to see me because I was crying on the phone. Tells amazing stories of love and life, and oh boy she has lived. Has made mistakes, but takes them as experiences. Brave, but fragile. Once walked through a mass of people easily by just shouting "Make way, Jesus is coming" out loud, people obeyed.
INFP
An amazing guy I met during my university years. I always forget he's an introvert when we hang out in a small, very familiar group of people. Ready to do deep meaningful personality analysis with me anytime. Or just "which digimon are you" -tests. Lived in a house without much furniture just by using cardboard box as a table, because "it didn't seem important at that time". Sickest burns and a professional smiley user. Flirts with AI on his free time.
ENTP
A crazy turkish guy I met at a club activity. His first words for me were "you're not the sharpest pen in the pencil case, are you now?". Ended up being a sweet, environmentally woke guy who just happens to be sharp in everything he says. Once stole my shoe while in a nightclub, I ran behind him like a madman and laughed so much. Sometimes says little mean things, but tells me how amazing I am and how much love I deserve after he realizes. Without admitting his mistakes. Obeys everything while drunk.

One of my best friends I met when I was 15 years old. Sat next to me in most art classes, was brutally honest back then. Really into mbti, and has learned to understand people with it and to be softer with opinions. Seems like a calm, intelligent person although truthfully is a silly goofball from inside. Helps everytime I'm in a difficult place in my mind. Dies of happiness when somebody shows pictures of hamsters doing something stupid.

First impression
What a BAMF!
( I was a child and very tiny and kinda fairly very bullied and Seto was...well he broke into his own house and jumped out a window. And he could fight. I was sold. I wanted to be like him.) I also sided with him over Yugi on most things...including friendship and speeches.
Impression now
Maaaaaaaaac freakin dork ass curt ass dramatic af child with anger issues and trauma someone help him someone help him Now.
I also ( obviously) now side with Yugi over Seto on the whole friendship deal. (But I get Seto’s reaction on an almost instinctive level and still love him a lot.)
( Like..dont get it wrong. I poke fun at him because of how much he reminds of me as a kid but...I adore him and I’ll defend him from near anyone. Okay no I won’t because im a coward who goes into fight-or-flight at the mere thought of char-disc-0urse but like still

hmm. I haven’t seen him since the show was new so its foggy but..Imma say any time he either shares screen time with Mokuba or snarks at Joey. ( at Joey specifically because oh lord “Mokuba make sure Wheeler’s late” still sends me into a laughing spell. ( mind you I adore Joey too but uh..yeah. Snarking Seto is best Seto)
Idea for a story
Right now the one I have is a crossover with xmen where Laura Kinney becomes his and Mokuba’s bodyguard. It has ended up becoming 3 separate verses because i couldn’t decide between comic!book Laura and Logan!Laura and also at what time in both their stories I wanted them because I am the opposite of competent and know no hubris.
It’s eking along kinda slow-like tho. Because writing Seto’s hard for me. I feel like a lot of people have done it better already. So I don’t know that it’ll get done.
Also I don’t know how to keep her from killing Pegasus.
I also had an idea for him and Tea becoming friends in like therapy or something but that never kicked off. Although it’s worth mentioning I’d like to explore the concept of what it would take for them to get along.
Unpopular opinion
He’s a good person I guess? I’ve heard that’s unpopular but haven’t seen it. He deserves a shot at a happy life. He’s a good person? He has never ( to my knowledge) been unkind to Mokuba and even if he was being angry in one moment in your life isn’t some kinda morality indicator especially when it comes to children. Especially traumatized to high heaven children who just keep getting traumatized so no Mokuba didn’t “deserve a better brother” or w/e both Seto and Mokuba deserved better period and can people just enjoy the show which is about forgiveness and friendship anyways good golly.
I mean..yeah I guess I got a few.
Another one that I think might be unpopular but I don’t know due to not really publicizing it is that Seto and Yugi....actually aren’t that different at the core? Like if you took Seto away from a lot of the Tragic Backstory stuff he might end up..not exactly like Yugi but not that different either. They’d have a lot in common.

Favorite headcanon
Ohshoot do i even have one hm. This ask covers a lot of the headcanons I have for him..but I guess my favorite is him liking children followed by the one that he does math equations and formulas when he’s bored.
I also share a lot of the ones @iced-blood has posted due to most of my exposure to the character coming from his fic after I stopped watching the show so a lot of his headcanons are up there too.

Idea for a story
I have a couple drabbles based on @kintatsujo‘s age swap AU...and her In The Back Of My Brain AU, alot of her AUS give me ideas actually ( which of course id ask for permission before pursuing) but nothing concrete.
Oh and the xmen crossover mentioned above. Mokuba’s a fair share of that since in one of them Laura’s his bodyguard rather than Seto’s. ( in another Gozaburo gets Laura as protection for Seto while still being abusive and they both shake him off. Like I said it’s..it’s splintered into a lot)

I guess I’m a fan of the shared headcanon that Mokuba wears heelys. I like the idea that he’s not a genius like his brother and maybe he doesn’t get HIgh HIGH grades and maybe that’s okay ( as someone who has a complex relationship with academics I guess thats something I wish i saw more often yknow) because he’s smart in different ways.
I like the idea of Mokuba being athletically inclined like skate boarding or parkour or being involved in some sport at school I mean he roped climbed out a window in his intro episode so its not that outlandish.
I actually don’t have that many headcanons for this kid. I should fix that.
Noah Kaiba
First impression
Yikes. What a freakin loon. ( first episode) Oh no..he’s lonely and abandoned. Oh no oh no oh no. ( later episodes in the arc) Okay but he’s still a mean dude ( when he turns ppl to stone) Oh no...he died...and he turned around at the last minute WHAT DO YOU MEAN I DONT GET TO SEE HIM AGAIN. ( at the end)

I guess-no I know a lot of people have done it better but I like the idea of a canondivergence where he’s spared and/or rescued by Seto.
I also like the idea of crossovers with shows like Digimon or Code Lyoko where you have digital worlds.
I just don’t want to be alone and i want him to have nice things okay. That’s..that’s all i want..from life.

Probs that he was an actual smol child and got a raw deal and Deserved Better. ( tm) ( you’ll find thats..my beat with a lot of characters ^-^:)

He...doesnt have any? In fics where he gets brought back like Paved With Good Intentions ( specifically Blue Eyes Violet Eyes) I like seeing his relationships with the other Kaibas. But as far as Canon goes...yeah there’s none.
Favorite headcanon
He’s very tactile. He liked running his hands through his dog’s fur and it always got to him that digitized it..wasn’t the same.
Following that he used to be very physically affectionate before Gozaburo started discouraging it.
Following that if he was to be brought out of the digital place/rescued I think he’d be pretty clingy. I mean because of the tactile thing and because..he’d need to reassure himself the world around him is real.
If he had been allowed to live he’d probably think he didn’t deserve it/that he has to Atone for the stuff he’s done.
His whole world was his father and even when he hated him he loved him. He wanted nothing more than to be held by him again. That’s why the abandonment stung so much, there’s nothing like hating and being hurt by someone you love...and still having a part of you love them. A part of him still wonders what he did to get left behind. That’s a big part of what drove him to the deep end.

What's your favorite anime?
I would like to say “an anime titled “Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood”” BUT that is my favorite STORY in general! EVERY single part of it can speak to me, which FEW stories can get close for me. It’s also something I pretty much grew up on in one shape form or fashion. ME and my best IRL friend bonded over it in like our first long conversation. I can go back to it at almost any time. I have (and am) written ALOT of personal essays related to it. And it is the rare work with kid/teen leads, but pretty much EVERY OTHER character being appropriately aged adults. And it uses several of my favorite tropes including “These kids are shaking the plot and that’s IMPORTANT.” There is a surprising amount of horror, but it’s the exact kind I like. The world is fleshed out. Pretty much any character who is there for more than a chapter/episode gets a full character arc. It blends humor and seriousness better than just about anything.
Now for my favorite anime (that is not FMA), that’s a bit harder. This is something I’m passionate about, if that’s not obvious. Grew up on anime, despite my parent’s wishes. (they’re supportive now.) I enjoy One Piece alot (but that’s mainly the manga/comic), Monster is something I REALLY enjoy when I like it but I gotta be in the mood (REALLY dark and is a realistic thriller aimed at adults), I got pulled into Mob Psycho 100 (blaming my best friend) recently and really enjoy it and its sister? series, One Punch Man. I used to LOVE Baccano!!, but kinda grew out of my gore phrase. VERY grew out of it. I grew up on Dragon Ball and Naruto, so those have honorable mentions. Avatar the Last Airbender and the Legend of Korra is a franchise I LOVE but mentioning them here is controversial. I never watched the anime, but Rurouni Kenshin is a manga/comic that HEAVILY influenced who I became as a person. It’s anime isn’t out yet, but a manga called Dr. Stone is another I LOVE. And Boy am I glad “anime” is one of those “single or plural” words. Also, I grew up on Digimon. And Digimon Tamers and Digimon Savers were the ones I love, HEAVILY influencing the types monsters and horror I like.
Um, now that I rambled this far may as well bumble forward. Generally everyone I mentioned that is complete has “bad things happen, there’s still a happy ending” at the end, and generally my favorite anime or stories are those that have that. Where the characters have to “earn their happy ending.”

About:
Lare is a bossy girl who just loves attention and getting her own way. But that doesn't necessary mean she's mean or anything, she's just kinda self-centred.
She is a very determined person and always sticks to her ideas and speaks her mind. She is also very stubborn and can't be pushed around easily.
Lare tends to clash alot with her Digimon partner Sunemon, mainly because their personalitys are so alike (stubborn, bossy, proud, always wanting to get the last word...) But her and Sunemon are very close anyway.
Sunemon helps steer Lare's determination onto the right path, where it can be useful to the team. He also helps her become a little less self-centered and give a little more consideration to others.
Apperance:
Lare is tallish, has light brown hair with a spiky fringe and blue eyes. She wears a light purple T-shirt, black pants, blue and purple shoes and brown gloves.
History:
Lare didn't go to the Digiworld with the others because she and her brother went to visit their Aunt Amiee who lives in Highton View Terrace. They came back just as the Digidestines went back to the Digiworld.
