Leona’s birthday is next week- and I want you and your followers thoughts on something I’ve seen in discords, Reddit posts, and chat rooms. In the first bday card- which would be the one English players can expect, also can’t wait to see who pies Leona on the JPN version he mentions his father brother, sister in law and Cheka… but not his mom. I’ve seen translations for the original Japanese version, and he still doesn’t mention his mom.
When asked about his family he mentions his sister in law, Cheka, Farena, and a sickly father. But nothing from his mother…
I’ve seen theories that range from she was incredibly distant to him since he was the second born, that she’s like Leona and wouldn’t be the kind to say happy birthday. And the one I think is sadly the most plausible is that she died shortly after Leona was born/ during his birth.
One point for this theory is that Leona and Farena have a huge age gap. Farena is older by ten years. One Reddit user mention that this might be why Queen Kingscholar died since she was much older then when she had her first born. I think it’s more likely that the first Queen had developed some kind of illness that got life threatening after she gave birth. And died shortly there after.
Leona was 15 when Cheka was born and who was there to scold him for missing the ceremony? Farena… it seems Like at some point during his life his dad stop caring about youngest child and being the big brother Farena picked up.
Another reason this might be true is the way he was treated when he was young. Assuming Leona/ Vil/ Jack/ Jamil got their UM when they were roughly 11/10 ish? Azul seem to prefect his by middle school and he studied very hard to do so. All four have what could be consider dangerous and deadly unique magic. Vil can poison anyone, Jack can turn into an apex predator, and Jamil can use mind control- Turing things to sand doesn’t seem that deadly, or that bad consider in canon people can track, brainwash, forcibly put people into comas- sand doesn’t seem that bad? but if he was already associated with death and pain then turning anything to sand just solidified how servants treated him as the bad or unworthy prince.
Idk if this makes sense? I don’t speak English as my first language and I’ve mostly been playing JPN twst and have only recently started playing the English version. Seeing your post about Leona make me happy and you seem to have a wonderful following and am curious to see what you and others think.
Best wishes
-a Leona lover🦁💛🤎🧡
That actually makes a lot of sense. I've kinda assumed that, in true Disney fashion, a parent who is not present is usually dead. So if Leonas father is sickly, and there is no mention of his mother, then she must not have been around since he was young for her to never be mentioned at all. (Also is his brothers name Farena in Japanese? I feel I see a few of variations in the spelling so I'm never sure. idk. I’m gonna go with Falena, because I play the English version, and the spelling I'm familiar with.)
So her dying from childbirth would be an obvious reason for resentment. Or it could be a case of Falena just being the golden child. He was the crowned prince. The only child. A bright and cheerful boy that everyone loved. Leona was the unplanned one. The one who was more serious and "moody". No one in the palace, be it servant or family seemed to know how to connect with Leona. So they shifted all their attention and energy onto Falena. I don’t think anyone quite knew what to do with Leona. If I'm being honest, I don’t think Leona was planned. In my experience, most people I've known who have large gaps between children, usually didn’t plan it. Not all. But most. (This is assuming the king and queen weren’t trying for another and had trouble conceiving all that time. It’s possible. But considering how ignored and cast aside Leona was, I doubt that. That doesn’t feel like how you would treat the baby you’ve been wanting and trying for roughly a decade to have.)
I think in a way Leonas situation is similar to Jamils. Jamil was taught that he will always have to play second fiddle to Kalim. That for every game he won, he had to let Kalim win twice. Jamil is smart and powerful, but purposely kept his grades average so as not to outshine Kalim. Leona is smart. He is powerful, but no one has ever praised him for anything. He feels like no matter what he does, he will never surpass Falena in any meaningful way. He will always be second to his brother the same way Jamil had to be second to Kalim. The main difference is that Kalim and Jamil are learning how to equals, where as Leona doesn't see any way for him and Falena to have equal footing.
And I say all this as someone who has a similar age gap with their younger sibling: Falena probably did have to take over for their father at some point. Sure they had servants and nannies and tutors. There was no trouble finding people to take care of Leona. But who was there to raise him? The servants are gossiping about him. Their father is running a country, presumably by himself. And we don’t know when or for how long their father got sick. So he may not even be in good health at this point to have the energy for a small child. Who does that leave? Falena. I don’t think Falena is malicious or anything. I do think he loves Leona and cares about his well being. But I don’t think he knows how to connect or talk to him a way that isn’t that of an authority figure. Yes they're brothers, but its hard to form that relationship and connection when you're so used to being a parent rather than a sibling. When Leona misses Chekas ceremony, he isn’t talking like a brother, he’s talking like a parent scolding their child.
This, coupled with the fact that the servants we see talking about Leona is an hushed tones, “Be quiet, someone will hear you!” Type deal. I don’t think Falena truly grasps the root of the issue. He’s the golden child, the one everyone praises, no one would ever talk about what they think of Leona to his face. So I don’t think he realizes how deep the resentment goes and why. I think to him, it just looks like Leona is mad he won’t ever be king. But Leona has never been shown he can do anything else, his efforts were never rewarded, while Falena can do thing if he wanted and still have everything. The Heir and Spare deal.
As for his unique magic, I think it’s a more simple reason. Again, bringing the Scarabia into this. But it’s the polar opposite of Kalims magic. Kalim says even though summoning water isn’t that impressive in the grand scheme of things, back where hes from it was once a big deal. Before they got running water, spells like Kalims were incredibly important out there in the desert where drinking water was scarce. I’d say the perception of Leonas magic is in that same vein, but on the opposite side. The Savanna is grass lands, full of all sorts of plants and animals. The last thing it needs is to be dried out. So I can easily picture magic like Leonas that does just that would not be viewed in the best light in his country. Just in general.
Yeah, on paper, turning things to sand doesn't sound that bad. But I think were forgetting one key detail:
Leona can straight up mummify a person alive if he wanted. That is horrifying all on it’s own. Even without cultural/ historical perception. Just going to put that one out there.

the thing is there's like, a point of oversaturation for everything, and it's why so many things get dropped after a few minutes. and we act like millennials or gen z kids "have short attention spans" but... that's not quite it. it's more like - we did like it. you just ruined it.
capitalism sees product A having moderate success, and then everything has to come out with their "own version" of product A (which is often exactly the same). and they dump extreme amounts of money and environmental waste into each horrible simulacrum they trot out each season.
now it's not just tiktokkers making videos; it's that instagram and even fucking tumblr both think you want live feeds and video-first programming. and it helps them, because videos are easier to sneak native ads into. the books coming out all have to have 78 buzzwords in them for SEO, or otherwise they don't get published. they are making a live-action remake of moana. i haven't googled it, but there's probably another marvel or starwars something coming out, no matter when you're reading this post.
and we are like "hi, this clone of project A completely misses the point of the original. it is soulless and colorless and miserable." and the company nods and says "yes totally. here is a different clone, but special." and we look at clone 2 and we say "nope, this one is still flat and bad, y'all" and they're like "no, totally, we hear you," and then they make another clone but this time it's, like, a joyless prequel. and by the time they've successfully rolled out "clone 89", the market is incredibly oversaturated, and the consumer is blamed because the company isn't turning a profit.
and like - take even something digital like the tumblr "live streaming" function i just mentioned. that has to take up server space and some amount of carbon footprint; just so this brokenass blue hellsite can roll out a feature that literally none of its userbase actually wants. the thing that's the kicker here: even something that doesn't have a physical production plant still impacts the environment.
and it all just feels like it's rolling out of control because like, you watch companies pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into a remake of a remake of something nobody wants anymore and you're like, not able to afford eggs anymore. and you tell the company that really what you want is a good story about survival and they say "okay so you mean a YA white protagonist has some kind of 'spicy' love triangle" and you're like - hey man i think you're misunderstanding the point of storytelling but they've already printed 76 versions of "city of blood and magic" and "queen of diamond rule" and spent literally millions of dollars on the movie "Candy Crush Killer: Coming to Eat You".
it's like being stuck in a room with a clown that keeps telling the same joke over and over but it's worse every time. and that would be fine but he keeps fucking charging you 6.99. and you keep being like "no, i know it made me laugh the first time, but that's because it was different and new" and the clown is just aggressively sitting there saying "well! plenty of people like my jokes! the reason you're bored of this is because maybe there's something wrong with you!"

I want. Four to get appreciation. Because
Four gave a ton of unnoticed help when Twilight was injured
The fight with Wild was difficult, and I know we're all concerned about his negative view of the shadow crystal
But Four did something that no one else really thought of to help- He took care of Twi's stuff
From the beginning he told Twilight to not worry about them
So Four took care of pretty much everything but the others (that Sky and Wars handled)
He took care of Epona
Which is so very important- he took care of Twilight's horse. After her arrival at the stable Four followed up on her
And for Epona, a horse so attached to her human, having some company can help so much for reassurance
He took care of Twilight's stuff
He got Twi's shield- his bags and equipment, and organized it into one place
And he was worried. He obviously found the shadow crystal while handling Twi's stuff, but his negative reactions to it were out of concern.
Also- because of his placement in this scene
I'm fairly convinced Four was ready to start cooking before Wild showed up (since he's beside the counter with food supplies). At the very least he had the basket of fruit out for everyone -but he was literally standing with food behind him- he thought of everything
And he did housekeeping!
Wars payed for the inn, so Four took care of the inn
Realistically these boys were probably not too concerned with tidyness. Four got all of Twi's things on one table, and took care of the room they stayed in
Organizing tables and Twi's things, having food supplies ready, and opening the curtains- overall he was the one tidying up the inn
Four helped in a huge way! He took care of Twi's horse (Epona is so important), his equipment and shield and bag, as well as the other rooms in the inn
Four filled in all the little tasks that others didn't think of. He helped in ways that were needed, but not obvious
There's a lot of problems with the shadow crystal and with Wild, and I don't know what's gonna happen in the future
But don't forget this- don't forget that Four was one who stepped up in an almost unnoticeable way
Don't forget that when everyone was barely holding it together, Four visited Twilight's horse and took care of his things
No matter what develops in the future- this amount of care shown is important ya know?
