Summary: request: "If you're up for it I'd love to see a small lil fic of Sebastian sending his child off to Hogwarts for the very first time! Like maybe Sebastian is telling them about his adventures with Ominis and MC to make the child less nervous or just letting them know how exciting things will be for them :)"

Sebastian sets her down and rests a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Not too good, alright? It’s worth breaking a few rules every now and then to make a friend, or do what’s right.” “Like how you met Uncle Ominis and he showed you the Undercroft?” she says eagerly. A few feet away, you look up sharply from where you’re hugging Simon goodbye. “Did she just say ‘Undercroft?’” “No,” Sebastian and Anne-Marie say in unison.

September 1, 1910

Suspended overhead in the bustling terminal of King’s Cross Station is a massive clock. Every morning, hundreds of thousands of Londoners – both Muggles and wizards alike, though more often the former – pass underneath the clock as they hurry to catch their trains. Many will casually glance up to ensure they’re still on time as they make their way to work, school, or even the lucky few off on holiday.

As it happens, the first day of September brings countless students to the station on their way to boarding schools all over the U.K., meaning the station stays especially crowded well into the late morning. Worried mums and impatient dads all turn their eyes toward that clock, hoping their sprogs won’t be left on the platform on their very first day of school.

Just as the minute hand slides into place at the very bottom of the clock, a handsome young family emerges from a tiny waiting room positioned at the far end of the terminal.

Hundreds of Muggle men in their funny, black suits and odd little bowler hats have already walked right past the waiting room without sparing it a second glance. In fact, had any of them paused to do so, they would have read a small sign affixed to the door that simply read, “Out of Order.”

But inside that waiting room is a grand fireplace. Not just any fireplace, mind you – one that roared brilliantly twenty-four hours a day, never needs stoking, and, perhaps most importantly, spews out bright green flames.

Sebastian Sallow first exits the waiting room with a precarious cart loaded up with trunks, birdcages, and even some broomsticks of all things. If the Muggles passing by thought anything of the man’s rather odd collection of travel items, no one said a word.

He glances up at the clock and grins.

“Ten thirty,” he says confidently over his shoulder. “See? I told you we wouldn’t be late.”

Beside him is his young wife. Their smallest child, a boy just a few months shy of his fifth birthday, is dozing in her arms. Behind them are their oldest children, a pair of twins, chatting excitedly as they follow their parents toward the barricade between platforms nine and ten.

“Doesn’t it seem a bit redundant to Floo all the way down to London just to put the children on a train back to Scotland?” Sebastian mumbles as your family weaves its way through the flowing crowds.

“Perhaps, but all the children love riding the train,” you remind him fondly. “It’s a Hogwarts tradition, especially for the little ones.”

Having never had the chance to take the Hogwarts Express yourself, you find yourself mildly envious of your eldest children, both of whom will soon be taking their very first journey on the school’s scarlet red steamer train.

“Besides,” you add teasingly. “If I recall, you and Anne met Ominis on your first train ride to Hogwarts, correct?”

“Fine, I suppose you’ve got me there,” Sebastian relents with a soft smile. “I rather think this whole journey will have been worth it if the twins happen to make lifelong friends who save their lives several times over.”

“Do we have to?” your son Simon pipes up, sounding wary. “Because I packed a book I wanted to read.”

Sebastian raises an eyebrow at you and gives you a look that reads, He is your son through and through.

“Trying to prove you’re a Ravenclaw already, are you?” Sebastian teases him. “Just like your mum, you are.”

“I’m going to be a Slytherin like you, Daddy!” your daughter Anne-Marie chimes in proudly. “Even Auntie Anne said so!”

You and Sebastian exchange a fond, albeit exasperated look. Ever since Anne (and eventually Sebastian) had accepted the life-limiting curse placed upon her by Rookwood, she’d instead focused on honing types of magic that don’t drain her of her energy or cause her any more pain. She’d found comfort in Divination and has grown into a very powerful Seer, though she often uses her gift to rile up your children with premonitions of being spoiled rotten on their birthday or soundly beating the other village children in their broomstick races.

However, predicting that your mischievous little girl will end up in Slytherin is a fairly safe bet, you imagine.

“I won’t be the least bit surprised if that’s true,” Sebastian says warmly. “But just know your mother and I will love you all the same no matter which house you end up in.”

“Even Hufflepuff?” Simon asks nervously. “Ernest from the village says Hufflepuffs are boring.”

“Don’t forget your Auntie Poppy is a Hufflepuff,” you tease him. “She’s anything but boring!”

That seems to cheer Simon up a bit, but your sweet, slightly shy boy falls back beside you as you get closer to the platform barricade.

“Alright, my love?” you ask him softly.

He reaches for your free hand and squirms up tightly against your side. “It’s really big…”

You size up the high brick archway before you. To the naked eye, it appears as solid as rock, and despite Sebastian’s reassurances that it’s perfectly safe to run straight at it, you imagine you’d be intimidated as well if you were only eleven years old.

“Don’t worry, darling,” you reassure him. “Your father and I will come with you to the platform, you won’t have to go through alone.”

He nods wordlessly and you squeeze his hand. Ever her father’s girl, Anne-Marie takes Sebastian’s arm and the two of them push the wobbly luggage cart straight at the archway, and in the blink of an eye, they’ve vanished.

“See?” you murmur to Simon. “Not so scary, is it?”

With your youngest still propped against your hip, you and Simon walk toward the barricade at a slower pace. You glance around to make sure no Muggles are watching as you slip through the magical brick facade, and then in the blink of an eye you’re on a pack platform surrounded by wizarding families and children in bright, colorful robes.

“Over here!” Sebastian calls out, and you see that he’s pulled the cart right up to the train.

“Help each other with your trunks, just like that,” Sebastian says as Simon and Anne-Marie first carry the trunk marked with an “S.S.” aboard the carriage and then return for the other marked with an “A.M.S.”

Then they carry in their owls – both young tawny birds raised from hatchlings, a gift from their Aunt Poppy. Finally, they return for their brooms, which Sebastian knows for a fact they ought not to have as first years, but he hopes he can talk Headmaster Weasley into looking the other way once they arrive with the intent of trying out for their house Quidditch teams.

(Raising your children in a wizarding village had been quite an eye-opening experience for you. Your twins have been on broomsticks since they could walk, and over the years their godfather Ominis has insisted on making sure they always have the latest model – one for each, so they won’t squabble over sharing.)

You pull Anne-Marie in for a tight hug once the children finish unloading their cart.

“You’ve got everything you need?” you ask her, pretending your voice hasn’t gone thick with tears. “I’ve packed you both some sweets for the ride, remember to share with your new friends, and write to us as soon as you get back to your dormitories please–”

“Yes, Mum,” she says, somewhat impatiently. “We promise we will.”

Anne-Marie kisses her littlest brother goodbye on his chubby cheek, fondly brushing back some of those messy brown curls your husband had given him.

“Why don’t you let your father give you a hug goodbye, sweetheart?” you gently prompt her.

You expect you’re the only one who’s noticed that Sebastian’s eyes have gotten a bit wet as he’d watched his children load up their belongings on the train. Even though he’d likely try to deny it if you prodded him, he sincerely looks like he could use a hug.

As soon as Anne-Marie approaches him with her arms out, Sebastian scoops her up against his chest like he’d often done when she was much smaller – only now her legs nearly touch the floor, and soon he’ll only be able to sway her like this with her feet firmly planted on the ground.

“Have a great term, sweetheart,” he tells her softly. “I can’t wait to hear all about it – even the parts that’ll exasperate your mother.”

“I promise I’ll be good,” she says ruefully.

Sebastian sets her down and rests a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Not too good, alright? It’s worth breaking a few rules every now and then to make a friend, or do what’s right.”

“Like how you met Uncle Ominis and he showed you the Undercroft?” she says eagerly.

A few feet away, you look up sharply from where you’re hugging Simon goodbye. “Did she just say ‘Undercroft?’”

“No,” Sebastian and Anne-Marie say in unison.

You narrow your eyes suspiciously and decide to leave it be for now, but as soon as you turn away, Sebastian leans down and whispers, “Write to Uncle Ominis and ask him where to find it. It’s a Sallow’s rite of passage.”

“I will,” she says excitedly. “And I’ll bring Simon.”

“Good girl,” he says proudly.

Anne-Marie manages to free Simon from your weepy grasp so that Sebastian can also pull him in for one last hug, reassuring his son he’ll be proud of him no matter which house he eventually calls home. Then the two link arms as they make their way toward the train, climbing up the stairs behind a gaggle of redheaded children (whose surname you could likely guess on the first try).

They settle into a compartment halfway down the carriage. Anne-Marie eagerly presses her face against the glass and makes a silly face at Sebastian, which he delightedly returns. Simon waves goodbye as well and holds up the book he’d packed, showing it off as if to say, “See Mum? We’ll be just fine.”

With your groggy son in your arms and Sebastian’s arm around your shoulders, you watch as the train slowly starts to rumble down the tracks and into the brilliant September sunshine. It’s carrying your children ever closer to your home, and yet further away from you than they’ve ever been.

You hide a few tears against the lapel of Sebastian’s robes; he kindly wipes away the rest with a handkerchief and kisses the redness on your cheeks and nose until you’re smiling once more.

“They’re going to have an incredible year,” he whispers to you. “It’s Hogwarts.”

You simply nod, not trusting yourself to answer without a stray sob slipping out.

Dozens of parents begin to Apparate away from the tracks as soon as the train rounds the corner, but with your youngest, you’ll need to make your way back to the station’s Floo flames to get home safely. This time pushing an empty cart, the three of you slip back through the brick barricade.

“It sure will feel quiet when we get home,” Sebastian says a little sadly.

“We’ve still got the littlest one,” you say softly, cradling your sleeping boy’s cheek as he clings to you through his nap. “He’ll keep us on our toes enough as he gets older.”

“I suppose,” Sebastian sighs, still sounding morose even as he reaches over and gently strokes the back of his fingers down your singleton’s back.

Then he perks up and raises an eyebrow at you. “Or perhaps we could try for a fourth?”

You shoot him a withering glare. “Not on your life, Sebastian Sallow. We’ve just sent the twins off to school, I think that means we should actually get to enjoy some peace and quiet for once.”

(Though when your twins come home for the winter holidays with countless tales of their adventures with new friends and their pockets stuffed full of Zonko’s products, Sebastian gets to be the one to tell them they’ll have a new baby sister the following summer.)

Roland "Roland King" LMS Kitson 0-3-0ST

Roland is a hard worker since day one! Despite him being a small shunter, never underestimate his size! He might not be as strong as the other engines but he has a heart of a lion. He is not afraid of picking fight with anyone who have conflict with him or his friends. But being tougher than your real strength can have it downfall sometime. Losing his peers to modernization and dieselization, having Madeleine and Archibald being the few still standing by his sides. Roland is highly protective of them. He's willing to ignore and look past all of their flaws and throw hands with anyone who disagree.

Honeybee and Cooper are the first diesels he fully open up with, eventually becoming friends outside of his own little circle.

He's that one aggressive short friend

100% will help you bury a body and tell no one

Dandy "Dalan 'Dandy' Robinson" BR Class 52

A goody two shoes one might say. Dandy is a perfectionist. He absolutely want things to go smoothly always. Unlike Shepherd who do it out of his own bossiness, Dandy do it out of pure fear, the fear of getting scrap like his sibilings and other engines. This boy feel the NEED the impress people, he need to show his worthiness to stay, He want the others to thing he's perfect both mentally and mechanically and there's nothing that could go wrong with him!(Oh how wrong he was) Leading him to often push himself beyond his limit. This combinded with the flaws of the class 52 caused him to breakdown sometime, leaving him distressed.

He have sight problem, His old crews somehow managed to convinced the higher up to install glasses on him

Point out any of his flaws and he'll think about it for the next 3 weeks

Madeleine "Mary Rosalie Sabilline" L&YR Hughes 4-6-4T

The most sensible and open minded of the steam trio. She's often one of the few voices of reason on their railway beside Hila, the first diesel she fully open up to(YURI ALERT!!!) The only thing that hold her back from solving the conflict is her insecurity. She's very wary of how the others think of her, especially her best mates, Roland and Archibald. Because of this she's very careful with her usage of words and how she spoke with the other engines, she doesn't want to upset anyone afterall!

Want to keep Roland and Archibald from doing stupid shit but scared it might damage their friendships

Hila helped her become more confidence

Asta

- If there's one person on this list of suitors who just straight up does not care about size, it's this one right here

- You're strong, you're a great cook, and he has fun with you- that's all this one cares about, really

- Unfortunately, he's not the brightest bulb and he doesn't exactly get it when he's being approached romantically, so they're gonna have to spell it out in some way shape or form

- It is only after you two are together that he realizes 'You know what? I think I've had a crush on you for a while now'

- Such a cute dork

Magna

- Not gonna lie, he's gonna want someone whom he can lift so he can fLEX on everyone-

- That said if you're cute and sassy enough, man is hitting the workout sessions HARD, just to be able to carry all that gorgeous around town- basically the ultimate flex

- He obviously is the first to confess albeit extremely flustered and surprisingly full of self doubt

- He's actually kind of insecure, especially about his looks - go easy on him

Luck

- Honestly? Very into someone on the plusher side and for completely selfish reasons at that - huge, HUGE cuddler once you get him down long enough (plz wrestle him he wants it so bad)

-Also be wary, randomly grabs you just... all the time, consciously and unconsciously. You've become his single yet constant source of comfort

Vanessa

- Forgive her she means well, but may or may not unintentionally offend by offering up diets and routines and walks around town together - I SWEAR she's only trying to be kind

- If you're honest about your feelings on it though, she feels just AWFUL and apologetic and buys you many, many gifts to try and make up for it

- Truthfully, you guys just kinda ended up becoming an item one day - rumors of a drunken kiss still floating around town, unconfirmed

- Doesn't mind it too much all in all, especially if you spoil her

Finral

- He's a little apprehensive about it at first, his mind barreling back into the teasing of how scrawny and weak he is and he's not entirely confident in his ability to shall we say satisfy -

- Buuuut quickly says 'Screw it' when he realizes how amazing you are, on and off the battlefield

- When I say this man cannot WAIT for the end of every night just to hold you??? I MEAN IT

- Very soft for his soft s/o, would give them the moon

Charmy

- You already know she doesn't care like come on

- And honestly, she may try to pressure you into many, many impromptu snacking sessions. Food is cooked by her 97% of the time, always.

- However if you have any personal health or fitness goals, Charmy is more than capable of curtailing menus to be healthy AND tasty so that's a plus for sure - but you will have to drag her along if you want her to walk with you

- Again, the relationship just sort of happened - even you two aren't quite sure when

Gauche

- Sorry lovelies but this man's first ever comment may be about your weight, granted he was already upset about Asta and Marie earlier but STILL - no bueno

- It's only after he starts getting to know you that he realizes what complete ASS he was during that first meeting. Will eventually apologize for that, it's said very softly and he sounds kind of annoyed but he's more annoyed with himself than anything

- It's gonna take quite some time to worm much of anything that isn't full of sarcasm out of him, let alone a confession, unless you decide to take that first step

- Hope you're ready for the slowest of burns -

Gordon

- If you think this awkward bean would EVER judge you on your weight, or anything for that matter, think again!

- Absolutely adores you for you; all your dimples and folds, all your past trauma, every facet of you is something he wants to learn more of and explore - absolutely all of it

- He develops a crush pretty early on but good luck getting that confession out of him

- Absolutely will nOT confess until you do because he needs to be 1000% sure he's not gonna scare you off like he did the others...

- Hand holding is must, it comforts him so

- Truthfully anything more than light sweet touches will send him to the moon, so be wary of feinting if you go in for a smooch

Grey

- So very, very shy this one is

- Doesn't actually care about your size, only about how you treat others and most importantly yourself - won't stand for negative talk and bombards you with "T-that's not true at all...!" followed closely by an entire assortment of things that make you so great in her eyes

- Just... so damn sweet

- You'll definitely be the one initiating anything and everything romantic, to include a confession so uh yea

- Just LOVES holding onto your arm once she's comfortable enough, both for support and as something of physical affection

Zora

- Yeeeea dubs you something akin to 'Chubs' upon meeting you, there's like...no way around that. He's mostly harmless tho...mostly

- Truthfully tho he's actually really attracted to curves - not that he's ever gonna tell you that (not without a teasing smirk and remark, anyway)

- He's gonna be dropping the most subtle hints that he's interested in you and the harmless flirting is eventually gonna turn into legitimately pining on both sides so you just flat out tell him one day "If we're gonna keep going like this, we should at least be official..."

- He was content with a situationship of sorts, but a relationship certainly has it perks - ones he could get behind given time

Henry

- This sweetheart is just ecstatic he's found someone with such a plethora of mana (or no mana at all, your choice), someone he can actually be around for more than a few seconds - he does NOT care

- Helps if you're nice, but won't shun you away if you have a mean streak- he's not that type of guy

- Believe it or not, he's actually the first to cave and confess his undying love - and no that is not an exaggeration he genuinely falls very hard and very fast

- His biggest dream is to be able to hold you in his admittedly frail arms, caress your hair, and whisper sweet nothings to you as you drift to sleep

- He'll keep that dream close to his heart until he can make it a reality

Secre

- Not one for judgment, but also not one for romance so this one might be tough

- She's a sucker for people who are upbeat and positive though so if you've got that going for you, you stand a really good chance of at least grabbing her attention

- Slowest of slow burns here, folks

- You'll be the one administering the confession , as well as many complements, to a very adorably flustered Secre and boy is that priceless

- She very much enjoys pockets, will constantly have her hands in yours for comfort - a little weird but very cute

Noelle

- Yes absolutely she has a preference and it's definitely not chubby- no offense (please do not take offense I for one think you're amazing)

- It's gonna take someone with a strong backbone to handle the condescending frowns and holier-than-thou attitude that comes along with crushing on this one, you've been warned

- It'll take a while of chipping away at her steely exterior before she's ready to give way to the fact that yea, you're pretty darn cute

- You confess several different times before she gives it a real go - hang in there

Nacht

- May come as a surprise, but he doesn't really care about size - just about the character of your person

- So yes he's all for someone on the curvy side, actually one of the few that compliments you outright upon meeting you

- Probably puts you through a serious of subtle tests to see how suitable you really are and how compatible you may be with him (cause let's face it, he plays for keeps) but he's very honest about the fact that he's interested in pursuing you romantically

SHE'S BACK AGAIN!

And with Coven headcannons! Yay, who cheered?

No one asked for that one specifically, but in my mind it sounded like a really great idea, so... Hope you liked it!

The Coven and Kyle at The Seven Wonders Test (Young!Reader, just for the record!)

Cordelia Goode, Fiona Goode, Zoe Benson, Madison Montgomery, Misty Day, Nan, Queenie, Myrtle Snow, Mallory, Marie Laveau and Kyle Spencer!

Cordelia Goode

I've spoken countless times about how naturally good Cordelia is.

So, it's not news that she will fully support you as long as you decide to even take the test.

But, of course, she's afraid that something will go wrong along the way (trauma from Misty's not-returning scene in Coven, perhaps?)

I mean, if she's the Supreme, she has enough reasons and memories to be scared for you.

Cordelia is the type of person who will practice day after day with you, every spell, every gift, whatever you need her to do, she will do it.

But she'll also make sure to give you a few good seconds of rest, distracting you from the tension and madness of using your powers at full range.

"It's okay honey, you know you're capable of passing the test, and I trust you for that either."

Fiona Goode

Fiona will never admit it, but she's all for you testing the Seven Wonders.

Sure, it means she'll probably fall and be replaced by you, but she really doesn't care.

I completely see a chaotic scenario where Fiona cheats on the test just so you can win.

And then, in her selfless little way, she tries her hardest to convince the others that you deserved the victory on your own merits.

She'll probably just be watching you in the training phase, watching your attempts to do well in one Wonder or another, giggling and pondering over the perfect cheat.

Fiona is clearly so excited for you to try that she'll end up celebrating too loudly when you make it past the first try.

And, again, she will pretend that nothing happened.

"Ah, come on, don't be silly, (Y\N). You're dating the Supreme, of course you'll win that stupid test."

Zoe Benson

I think Zoe would be a lot like Cordelia in that sort of way.

But she would also be very demanding so that you could better train your skills.

Zoe would stay by your side the entire time, relieving all the insecurities of you. She has to make sure you are mentally prepared for this.

When she sees that you feel down about failing, she will try to distract you.

And she will definitely celebrate every achievement you have during the test.

And she would certainly tend to all your wounds, refusing to let you die.

"You can do it, my love. I trust you."

Madison Montgomery

Just as Zoe would behave like Cordelia, I think Madison would behave like Fiona.

She would definitely do anything for you to win.

Anything at all.

But be prepared for a lot of tireless training, daily use of magic to be able to displace your other competitors and, of course, a lot of orders coming from Madison.

I don't think she would cheat for you to win.

I mean, not if it's not strictly necessary.

And if you fail any of the tests, she'll get tough until she's away from the audience.

Madison would never admit it out loud, but there's no way she'd let you die.

"Come on, (Y\N), we have to win this fucking test!"

Misty Day

I'm sure Misty would be a little wary of you deciding to test the Seven Wonders.

But she would equally trust you and use every resource to cheer you up.

Words of affirmation when you feel down and unsure of your potential.

She making you rest as much as possible, especially when the test day is close.

She knows how difficult it can be to prepare for this kind of thing.

You can be sure that she would immediately offer to Concilium.

And that she would take care of you if you were injured, no matter how serious it was.

"Ya can do it, (Y\N), my dear, ya just need confidence."

Nan

Nan is the purest soul possible.

And she puts so much effort into cheering you up that it gets even better.

She's afraid you'll end up failing the test, but she tries to hide it as much as she can so you don't notice.

She will DEFINITELY cheat at Concilium by helping you better control people's minds.

Of course, she's so good at it that nobody notices, after all.

I see her totally getting into trouble with people who try to cheat you to lose on purpose.

"Concentrate, love. Remember what I taught you, right? You can do it!"

Queenie

Okay, Queenie would probably be totally opposed to you taking the Seven Wonders test.

She's been there, she knows how dangerous it can get.

And honestly, she'd rather you join her in voodoo, which is less dangerous.

But even so, I think she would consider the fact that the test would make you happy, so why not?

Ultimately, Queenie would be one of the most present people when it comes to rooting for you.

She would encourage you so much that Cordelia would have to ask her not to break your concentration halfway through.

I see her calling your opponents all the ugliest names possible, just for the pleasure of knowing you're competing.

I don't think she would cheat, she would just protect you from the risks of dying in the middle of the test, and that's not necessarily cheating.

"Come on, love! You can do it! Show them how badass you can be!"

Myrtle Snow

Just the fact that you agree to take the test is a headache for Myrtle.

Like, she knows you're capable, but with all the experience and knowledge she's gained about witches on the Council, is enough to worry her for weeks.

However, she is not opposed to your wanting to take the test.

She will do her best to maintain a neutral posture.

But this is Myrtle Snow we're talking about, so... I don't guarantee she'd hold out until the end.

She would definitely ask you to stop when she sees you are about to get hurt.

And, of course, she would take care of you when she saw that your injuries and your disappointment at not passing the test took the reins of the situation.

"Don't worry, my dear, you did what you could. I still think you'd make a great Supreme, no test necessary."

Mallory

Time to clarify that Mallory is an overprotective girlfriend.

But at the same time, she would support you to the fullest.

She would do anything to help you train for the test, that includes spells, gifts, potions, whatever.

Proud girlfriend on the way!

I also see Cordelia or one of the girls having to ask her to let you focus and stop cheering too loudly.

And when you get hurt, she'll probably take care of you and go back in time countless times just so you don't die.

"It's okay, my love. It's okay, you're okay. And I'm proud of you, so proud."

Marie Laveau

Marie would also be totally opposed to the idea of you trying on the test.

Her rivalry with witches kind of plays into that at first.

But I think your self-assurance and the trust she feels for you changes that idea in a short time.

Marie hates to admit it, but she is proud to see you blossoming new powers.

She will DEFINITELY try her hardest to cheat, on the sly of course.

All for you, in the end, it's worth it.

She will use all of her powers to heal your wounds and keep you from dying.

And without admitting it, too, she'd learn to like the Coven witches better.

"Not to brag, but you're the hottest of the contestants, you're sure to win..."

Kyle Spencer

Kyle was definitely going to be one of your biggest supporters.

Okay, okay, he can't do much, for obvious reasons.

But just having his company there is enough.

He'll be watching you train the entire time, fascinated by your skills.

And he'll give you kisses and cuddles to show that he's proud of you.

The test was going to go well because you made him promise to hold on.

And he did it solely for you.

Sure, some meltdowns and some excessive screaming because he really can't contain himself sometimes, but that's okay.

At least, he did his best.

Okay okay okay a PJO Marauders AU

James is a Son of Apollo because ??? who else could father this man. His conception was a kind of a favour to Effie and Monty - bc they were desperate for a child but couldn’t conceive without help, and Artemis elbowed Apollo and was like ‘bitch I can’t do it?’ so he made James for them - and James is very much in the camp of ‘thank you for the demigod stuff, still not my dad’ every time he crosses paths with his father.

Remus is the Son of Diana - Roman version of Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt and the Moon - and she Actually raised him for a little while, but he’s at Camp Half Blood for ~safety reasons~. He stays in the Athena cabin (because Artemis doesn’t have one, virgin goddess and all that) with:

Lily! Daughter of Athena. The Annabeth Chase parallels are too many to list. Can we really blame James for being obsessed with her? No, we cannot.

Peter is a Son of Demeter. He is very aware of how all of his friends are inclined toward chaos and heroics while he Literally Just Wants To Grow His Tomatoes Please. Pray for Peter, he is #suffering.

Sirius and Regulus, when they first arrive at Camp, don’t tell anyone who their parent is - Sirius talks whoever asks in circles until they’re laughing about something else, while Regulus just stares the askers down until they go away - and there’s a lot of discussion and debate, until it eventually - probably courtesy of a not-so-accidental slip of the tongue from Dumbledore - comes out that they’re the Sons of Nyx.

Being sons to the primordial Goddess of Night is complicated, even without all their personal trauma - Nyx was never widely worshipped, but the Blacks have worshipped her for generations, and when the decree went out that the Gods were no longer permitted to raise their own children, she put her sons in the care of Walburga and Orion thinking they’d treasure them. Walburga didn’t react well to figuring out that demigods or not, the children she’d been granted guardianship of were still, y’know, children - and Nyx is one of the only Gods Zeus is actually afraid of, so people knowing is a bit complicated.

Especially with the way many of Zeus’ grandkids rally around Sirius post-revelation, and his best friendship with James - Night and the Sun, how apt - while the kids of the less popular Gods circle Regulus, identifying with the more closed off little brother who takes his heritage a little more seriously and still calls Nyx mother in his prayers.

Extra points:

-In the midst of heroic such and such they all meet the Gods, and Regulus calls Zeus ‘nephew’ to his fucking face and James almost passes out from laughing so hard.

-Mary is a Daughter of Aphrodite; Marlene is a Daughter of Nike, Goddess of Victory; Dorcas is a Daughter of Ares; Pandora is a Daughter of Eris (and Regulus calls her niece, and she calls him uncle right back); Barty is a Son of Hermes: Evan is a Son of Hephaestus.

-James only figures out he’s got a special talent for healing when Remus is hurt by one of the Things That Hunt Him. Would it be cute if it was Starchaser? Yes. But it’s my AU and James Potter would move mountains for his friends.

-Regulus and Lily are gently wary of each other, to start, but quickly grow close, finding solidarity in Younger Sibling Trauma - Petunia is not a demigod, and her jealousy is cruel and sharp-edged - and being some of the only sane people in the whole Camp.

-Pandora is a chaos gremlin. Her mother is so proud.

-Nyx loves her sons. It tore her apart to give them up, and she’s still very angry about it. Regulus’ prayers keep her going. When she finds out what Walburga did to her kids, her revenge is nothing to be scoffed at.

Heaven edition

Emily is super excited to see everything you can do. she tries to learn some of the things you do whether this be cooking, flying tricks, or even playing dress up. she loves hanging out with you and learning about the things you can do and if she can do them too.

Sara would try to be compassionate towards you but still remain indifferent, acting like the perfect leader. people like you are the reason why there is an extermination, what if the demons do manage to rebel against Haven and you get hurt/fall from grace in the cross fire.

Adam would be irritated that he would be shown up by a chick. he would probably be chill when it was just sparing or cooking bombass dishes, but you’re also amazing at the bass? and keys? and every instrument? and just, everything? he would build a little resentment and feel slightly insecure, being reminded of Lucifer. bringing up a fear or being replaced again, having everything he’s gotten himself in this afterlife ripped away from him by another person.

Lute would probably be wary of you at first, realizing that you could be a threat, especially with how Adam acts towards you. she would over time grow close with you, coming to you when she wants a real challenge with sparing or needing help sewing/cleaning her uniform

Molly would love to hang out with you, i think she would act a lot like Emily but to not such an extreme degree. she looks like she would love trying new recipes with you and buying/sewing new outfits with you

the 'just watch me drive' bit gets me every time and I can't stop giggling but then it made my mind remember that movie I saw 'babydriver' and now I'm just thinking of au jordan in those scenes as a getaway driver for their wild group of friends who are all linked in some way to criminal activity with each using their powers and skillsets to get the group as a whole rich beyond belief and now I have a mighty need for this au and the chaotic adventures.

Jordan didn't outwardly complain when Brink brought new people into the fold, but they were never pleased about it either. The more people in the know, the more possible problems down the line.

At this point in the game, the others picked up on their wariness about newcomers and would not stop teasing them about it. Andre had actually created a bingo sheet of 'Jordan fucks with the newbie'. When Emma was brought on, they got a bingo in under three hours.

So when Brink told the team that he found a new recruit, Jordan ensured they kept their eyes forward, ignoring the reactions of their friends behind them.

"Alright, alright. Look - her power is weird but it's especially critical to this upcoming mission so please, don't scare her away."

Jordan forced themself not to roll their eyes - they never scared anyone away. People just couldn't handle them. There's a difference. But then Brink gave Sam a very pointed look, and they had to stifle a smile. They had forgotten about that... incident.

The metal door creaked open and in walked probably one of the most gorgeous people Jordan had ever seen. Big brown eyes, full lips, gorgeous deep skin, and long locs pulled back into a ponytail.

"Everyone, this is Marie."

Fuck. Jordan was fucked.

Marie was skeptical when Victoria told her about this new job. Multiple missions, little-to-no information about the group or the jobs. Just - do what these people tell you for the next few weeks, months, or even years, and then her and her sister would be set for life. To be fair, that is the deal that Victoria gave her initially when she caught her stealing on the job, but still. At least she had known Victoria for a few months beforehand. She's never met any of these people, and now she has to play nice? She just had to stay focused on Annabeth. If she could find them a good, stable place to stay...

So she went, pocketknife in tow, trench coat on, prepared for pretty much anyone when she walked into the cold conference room. Sitting around a large table were six people about her age, and the only other person in the room was a much older man with white hair and a beard. Marie presumed he was the head of whatever kind of ragtag criminal organization this was. This was confirmed when he introduced her.

"Everyone, this is Marie." She gave a small wave and the others introduced themselves. Andre, a black man with short hair and a relaxed posture, Luke, a tan blond man who looked like he had walked out of a Gap catalog, Cate, a thin and pale preppy blonde girl with piercing blue eyes, Emma, a bubbly white girl with short blonde hair, Sam, a pale muscular man with curly brown hair and puppy dog eyes, and Jordan, a small Asian girl with headphones in who seemed to have a permanent frown on her admittedly very pretty face. The leader went by "Brink", and she was sure there were a plethora of shitty puns she could come up with if he wasn't her boss. She took a seat in between Jordan and Sam, knowing Brink would likely want to begin quickly.

Taking in the group, it was clear whatever they were doing paid well. She wasn't well-versed in designer brands but the few she did recognize were scattered throughout the group.

The mission seemed simple enough, once Brink explained the details, but it was clear he was holding things back. Mainly because he hadn't mentioned the newbie's powers or why they needed her. I mean she was unassuming, but weren't they all? Jordan was halfway tempted to corner Brink and demand answers, but they knew they wouldn't get any information out of him he didn't want to give.

I'm curious and making a seperate post about the forgotten and older Captain Marvel characters from the past comics, but what are your thoughts on them? A bunch of them aren't even used anymore, but have so much potential to them if they're ever brought back.

Like Joane Jameson, apparently she was Billy and Captain Marvel's secretary at Whiz Radio, who knew of both of his identities and helped them. I really like this idea and think it would really be useful for a Billy Batson that's a street kid and constantly wary of adults who might want to turn him back in to the foster system, she provides a safe example for Billy to look up to and actually trust. Not just that, but she could also provide assistance for Billy/Captain Marvel on missions, things he may lack insight on or informing him of villainous attacks/incidents.

Are there any characters you wish to see be brought back to the present day comics or see them be included in fanfictions more? I also really like the idea of Dr. Sivana's children be brought back into the action more, especially Beautia, since she's actually a good person (from what I remember) and on good terms with the Captain

So it's taken me literally forever to answer this because every time I do I go down a mini research rabbit hole about older/unused characters because there are SO many that I would like to see more of.

My thoughts under the cut because it got long.

This isn't even everyone, but it's a lot of cool underutilized characters I'd love to see brought back.

Because of the number of characters, I'm splitting them into categories for ease of reading:

Civilians

Cissie Sommerly: Billy's girlfriend and the niece of his boss Sterling Morris (who also needs to used more tbh) She is a sweetheart who loves her little brother (Pete) and is very kind hearted. She didn’t get much development in the older comics, but she often had to deal with Billy and Cap’s shenanigans. I would love to see more of her!

The Sivana kids Beautia, Georgia, Thad Jr, and Magnificus: we recently got an adult Georgia in the New Champion of Shazam but I want to see the whole family together! And exploring their family dynamics with only half of them being supervillains would be so fun! They love each other but it's complicated. Georgia and Thad jr were basically parallels to Mary and Captain Marvel Jr and that was a fun balance. Meanwhile Beautia and Magnificus weren't really interested in their father's evil scheme though they gkt roped into them sometimes. And of course Beautia's crush on Captain Marvel causes problems but she's still awesome and even tutors Billy for school.

Sunny Sparkle: basically he was so universally beloved by everyone who met him that they just gave him things. Bank robbers would just hand him their stolen cash. Car jackers would give him the keys. He was gifted so much stuff every day that Billy had to help him donate and sell stuff regularly. In modern comics, I think it'd be cool if he was unknowingly a metahuman whose power was being hypnotically charming.

Freckles Marvel: she was Uncle Dudley's niece and despite not having powers, liked to tag along on adventures especially with Mary. She's a lot like Darla with her upbeat little sister energy. I can see them being friends in modern comics (or maybe even related since they both have the last name Dudley)

Dexter Knox: a child prodigy and inventor who was good friends with Billy. He's basically the smartest person in Fawcett and he loves showcasing his inventions to Billy.

Villains

Arson Fiend: an insurance salesman that uses extortion and threats of arson to meet his sales quota. He drinks a potion that gives him fire powers which he uses to commit arson against people who didn’t buy insurance from him. We've talked a bit about his connection to other Captain Marvel villains like Lady Blaze who healed him and gave him his powers back when he lost them. He's such a simply evil character that works really well for comics.

Chain Lightning: a teenager with multiple personalities and the power to control lightning. She has 4 personalities: Amy (the "main" alter), Amber (the more angry/volatile alter who protects the system), the Inner Child (no name besides that but encapsulates their child like wonder), and ID (the embodiment of their id, thus more impulsive than the others). She actually absorbs some of the Marvel’s magic lightning which allows her alters to temporarily have their own bodies. Amy is in love with Captain Marvel Jr because he saved her life, but the other alters are more wary of him, especially Amber. While any adaptation of Chain Lightning needs to be conscious of the ableism that happens when depicting a system, I think there's a lot of great potential with this character.

Sabina: she is technically from the Trials of Shazam not Fawcett comics, but I think she's cool. Basically she was raised by a cult called the Council of Merlin. She was destined to be 10th in line to receive the powers of Shazam so she starts killing those ahead of her in the order to ensure that once Billy was mo longer the Champion the powers would go to her. But when Billy was transitioning to become the Wizard he chose Freddy as his Champion, bypassing Sabina and the predestined order of things. So Sabina decides to kill Freddy AND the gods he was going to get his powers from. She's so evil and cool and I really like her design. I definitely think there's a way to bring her back.

Fawcett Heroes: there are a ton of fun characters that weren’t necessarily Captain Marvel characters but were part of the same world before he was a DC property.

Bulletman and Bulletgirl: literally Billy’s favorite superheros! He reads their comics and everything! They were very popular at the time, Whiz comics second most popular characters behind the Marvels. They are a husband and wife duo that gave themselves superpowers (strength, durability etc) which they use to fight crime, particularly supernatural villains.

Mr Scarlet and Pinky: Brian and Pinky Butler are a father-son vigilante duo. They were so good at their jobs that Brian barely had any work as a district attorney because of such low crime rates. They were basically a working class version of Batman and Robin. They're good friends with the Marvel family and when Mary got her first solo series, part of the advertising was having Pinky send her pen pal letters inviting her to have new adventures with him and the other Fawcett characters.

Ibis the Invincible: an Egyptian prince whose mummy was uncovered and brought back to life (by Shazam). He uses the Ibistick, an extremely powerful magical wand, to help people as he adjusts to modern life. He can do just about anything as long as he has his wand and often gets thrown in the middle of conflicts between gods.

Kid Eternity: aka Kit Freeman, Freddy’s long lost little brother with ghost powers! After dying in a boating accident when he wasn’t supposed to, he was brought back and given powers as compensation. He can summon spirits, turn invisible, and become intangible, though his powers shifted over time. He's such a cool character and he deserves more love!

Whew that was a lot! If anyone else has characters to add (and I know there are many) I would love to hear about it! And if any of these characters intrigue you I encourage you to check them out and sneak them into your fics!

I know a lot of people love the Self-Aware Au.

But I can’t help imagining the Hisui residents being in another universe that playing PLA gives us access to. They are unable to see us but can feel us looking over the MC’s shoulder.

Most of them brushed it off during the first few days. There were enough things to worry about before Ward (and wasn’t that just the oddest name for a young girl) fell from the Rift... Until they started noticing something following the sky-faller. It seemed to have some control over the girl if all the inhuman feats she pulled off were any indication. Not to mention everyone could feel it looking at them from behind her.

The first few signs were hard to miss. Ward was able to stay up for several days and nights going on surveys. Except she started sleeping through entire days, getting up at specific times, went out to catch, and repeat. Her throw accuracy topped even that of Captain Cyllene, though according to the Professor she would occasionally break a ball on a tree. Secondly—Ward never seemed to get dirty despite being in the wilds for so long. How ironic dirtiness would be more normal than her spotless ness.

Pokemon caught by the corps member would rarely if not ever misbehave. She tamed them in some unseen ways but even too-powerful ones who ignored her commands never grew hostile. They were too frightened to tell her off for sending out Pokemon inside Jubilife Village.

(Marie seemed to be affected when she didn’t mind how peculiar the Pokemon were. How did a wooden fence stop them from rampaging???)

It could also predict what their requests were going to be. Ward spent many weeks religiously catching Buizel before taking Dorian’s request. His new Buizel was the exact size he had been looking for to aid his original one. Beauregard got three new Wurmples with the being saying something about Beautifly being impossible to get with one. And wasn’t that a shock! The non-human thing would make rare comments on issues—it seemed to have selective hearing...

A rather startling surprise came when it left Ward standing in place. She didn’t talk but they heard her hum, saw her fidget, even stretch.

Never did the being get truly mad. Frustrated over losing the chance to catch a rare Pokemon was the closest. But a poor Agriculture corps man was left shaking after Ward listened to him talk about his Cherrim request. Kichi described the absolute hate directed at him for half hour from it. First, he felt its gaze focus on him more intently than a casual glance over. Then he could feel the thing glaring at him and its voice complained so much about how stupid Cherrim was! He just wanted to see the complete entry!

It got mad enough to leave Ward stuck for a few minutes in front of Kichi. So. The entity didn’t like all Pokemon as its dedication to the Pokedex project indicated...............

Otherwise, us playing through Day and Night cycles. Sleeping at camp. Getting through requests as quickly as possible. And hearing about the dreaded Cherrim quest yet not knowing who exactly gave it to us.

Idk, just the idea of characters being wary of a ‘vessel’ is pretty neat.

To everyone, it’s just weird. No one really knows how to react to the hero, seeing as they are just… only somewhat there? Just a puppet to whoever is really in control. It makes conversations… tense.

And seeing everything they do… being able to sleep like a rock without moving a muscle, as much as needed, at any time. It has people on edge. Especially since despite how the hero may sleep in the weirdest places at the weirdest times, pokemon don’t attack the camp.

Sometimes the hero will just stare in the fields at nothing, standing there for hours. Sometimes even days.

If you watch them long enough, you start to notice how often they repeat thing. The same exact stretch, the same exact look around, the exact same hum.

It’s unnerving.

Sometimes the people think it’s better if they leave the hero alone…

Best not to poke the beast behind the hero. The one they cannot see.

Okay soo I’m procrastinating like five other things I should be doing right now- mostly school work- but I’ve been having many thoughts about a grishaverse/aftg crossover au and I needed to get them all out so

Tada

mandatory spoiler warning for shadow and bone trilogy

-Neil as Alina, obviously. Non-negotiable. He would be the overpowered MC if there was magic in aftg and we all know it

-obviously in the books, alina does not have a family that we know of, but in my little au, Nathan works for the Ravka gov and Mary gives up Neil bc she can tell he’s gonna be a powerful grisha I guess? I don’t care that that’s not really a thing, it is now

-anyway- Andrew is Mal. I’ve talked extensively about how similar I think Mal and Andrew are as characters, especially in the way that they are both so protective over the people they care about, to the point of being self-sacrificial but they cannot cope with someone doing the same for them, in fact both of them get angry with their significant others for attempting to ‘save’ them. I also think for both of them, this behaviour stems from seeing themselves as less than the people around the, we see it more obviously with Mal but I think Andrew is the same

-so in this au Andrew and neil are childhood friends, they grow up together in the orphanage and stuff. I haven’t thought much about fitting aaron and nicky into this so they may just be not related in the au tbh

-the two of them join the second army as we know- Andrew as a tracker and Neil as a junior cartographer- and during an attempted crossing of the fold, neil’s summoner powers reveal themselves

-in the books, prior to using her powers, alina is described as pale, sallow, sickly-looking, generally unattractive, and we discover that this sick appearance is caused by her suppressing her powers. Anyway, I think that prior to using his powers, neil has very dull blue eyes and his hair is more brown than auburn but afterwards we get the bright blue eyes and auburn hair Andrew is obsessed with

-the darkling is kevin btw- originally I had him as Ichirou but wrote myself into a whole I couldn’t get out of so evil kevin it is

-ichirou is Vasily, and riko is nikolai, the king is kengo and annoyingly in aftg riko’s mother is not named so we’re sticking with Tatiana

-back to kevin- I debated between abi and Kaleigh for a while but I’m gonna go with Kaleigh as Baghra just because I love her and I get more creative freedom with her personality. Wymack is ilya so he’s dead, soz

-we also get the absolute joy of Andrew, kevin, riko, and Ichirou fighting over neil despite neil being madly in love with Andrew and not even realising it

-even though alina was somewhat reckless about the amplifiers she was still wary of the risks and such, I think neil would be far more reckless, I don’t think he would has hesitated as much to kill the stag or the water serpent and instead the issue would be kevin’s men being closer behind them than they’d thought and catching up at the last second

-I don’t think anything would have slowed neil down once he’d set his sights on the goal of collect all three amplifiers and destroy the fold, he would have been non stop going and dragging Andrew along with him, up until he realises he has to kill Andrew at which point everything comes to a crashing halt

-neil would be much less willing to believe it, he would be convinced Andrew had made a mistake and there was still a firebird out there somewhere, just denying it and denying it and denying it until he physically can’t anymore, and once he’d accepted Andrew was the amplifiers he’d be helplessly looking for other ways that didn’t involve him dying up until the last second. Even then, I think Andrew would be doing the majority of the work towards neil killing him.

-the last battle of siege and storm would just be neil in a haze of rage and grief, absolutely merciless because Andrew was always the voice of reason, the one to stop him from going too far, but he can’t anymore because andrews Dead

-I think the aftermath, where neil finds out that andrew’s been brought back to life would a haze as well. He doesn’t quite believe it’s real but also it has to be because he doesn’t know what he’d do with himself if it wasn’t. it’s neil’s idea to fake his death, not to protect his egacy but to keep Andrew safe, to start again somewhere knew

-if you thought they were codependent and attached at the hip in aftg, it is nothing compared to how they act post andrew’s resurrection

-yeah, sometimes neil misses his power, missing the feeling of being invincible, but he’d rather never have that again then even risk losing andrew’s presence by his side

-I still have not read rule of wolves/king of scars so pls don’t talk to me abt that

-I will maybe add more in the future, especially of the middle of the trilogy because I mostly just hit the beginning and end

tbh a lot of the ways jack’s infantilization pops up is in discourse around him and dean and their relationship , especially after Mary’s death in game night. because everyone’s relentlessly clinging to the idea of jack as a pwecious widdle baby who can do no wrong, there’s this unanimous refusal to give him any accountability whatsoever for anything he does, particularly with killing mary and hurting dean so severely in the process. instead, everyone decides that dean is the bad guy for reacting to his childhood trauma unfolding again after he’d finally healed from it and got her back.

I mean spn fans fundamentally do not see jack as an autonomous person so it only makes sense that nobody can put him on equal footing in any of his relationship dynamics, but to vilify dean for having a very justified reaction to his fucking mother dying again is just an insane thing to do in the name of woobifying jack. yes, it was entirely accidental and yes, Jack is equally as traumatized by it, but that does not take away from the fact that what he did directly emotionally damaged sam and dean.

not only would a lot of fandom discourse benefit from realizing these are literally not normal functional healthy people dealing with normal situations that give them the liberty to approach said situations in normal functional healthy ways (dean promising to kill jack if he needed to in 13x02, & shooting jack in 13x23), but it would also benefit from realizing that jack is a grown ass invulnerable demigod with the capacity to cause a lot of major damage if he spins out of control, and he bears full responsibility for that damage (which is why it is actually so fucking stupid whej I see ppl say that jack becoming a baby would magically fix their conflict. no it fucking wouldn’t, you just don’t see jack as a full person with direct responsibility in said conflict and you don’t care about their relationship actually being healed mutually).

on the other hand, dean was reacting to a presumed threat almost immediately after losing two of his loved ones in a situation directly related to jack. he has every right to be wary and cautious, and given that he is actively traumatized and already an emotionally dysfunctional person from being abused by John, he isn’t exactly going to outlet his trauma healthily or behave in a way that miraculously breaks the cycle John created. I’m getting tired but lastly, ppl should also realize that jack is a grown ass adult with the emotional maturity to understand and forgive dean for the way he acted before—even while Dean actively struggles to forgive himself and tries to be as good a father as possible to make up for it.

Because again, their situation is not normal and they have no way of treating it or reacting to it normally. as far as jack knows and has seen of his powers, he is dangerous and is able to reach a point where he’s too much of a threat to keep alive. the tragedy of it is that he doesn’t want to be a threat, he doesn’t want people to fear or hate him and he doesn’t want to hurt anyone. that’s why he says “you were right all along” in moriah. between dean and jack, a huge facet in their relationship is the question of whether or not dean is right, and by the time they’ve reached a point of mutually seeing each other as father and son that question is up in the air as something neither of them want. jack never wanted dean to be right, and now that dean knows jack as a person and as his own kid he especially doesn’t want to be right anymore.

just. Please start thinking of Jack as an actual autonomous person. That is literally all it comes down to. It will open up your world

Does Saeran believe in God?

I don't think there's any evidence in canon that would confirm that he believes in God. Even as I'm racking my brain for answers, I just can't think of a single moment where he says he believes in God. You may think he would given the fact that he was helped by the church, but I don't think that aligns with Saeran as a person.

Much like how he's so clear with Rika when he says, "I didn't see you or V as parents. You're no different than the people at the church to me. You helped me, but I wasn't close to any of you like you think. I was indifferent to all of you."

Why would he put faith in God if he's so willing to admit that even though everyone was helping him, he was always wary and afraid of their intentions? How can he have faith in people, much less God, if he's afraid? Better yet, for a kid like him who would wonder so hard why God would put him into an abusive home... put yourself in his shoes.

Why believe in that God if that God allows cruelty?

Why let him believe in someone who thinks it's okay to torture a child like that? He wouldn't feel good about God... even more so after he'd gone through Mint Eye. Can you imagine being in recovery after going through Mint Eye? Do you think you would ever trust a faith-based group ever again? Even if it's an "accepted" religion? Especially if it's a brand of Christianity since Rika based everything on her trauma from Catholicism?

Rika put herself in the position of a speaker for God as if the crass words of salvation and prosperity she spoke were a way to survive on this planet "the right way". That's why Ray lived in fear of screwing up! He was afraid of being damned.

Not only because he would be denied his eternal happiness in 'paradise' if he failed his Savior since her selling point is how the Eternal Party will never end, but because he knew the earthly torture for his sins was sickening. The basement was no better for him than Hell would be. The idea that salvation will always shift and change according to Rika, not stay the same, is no good for him. How can he stay on a path of righteousness if what he knows isn't going to be the same the next day?

The cleansing ceremony is like a twisted version of praying and counting your Hail Marys. Repent, beg for forgiveness, and cry like you mean it. Religion in general would be traumatizing for Saeran Choi, but once you start to consider the weight of all the tiny details that go beyond just believing in a God?

It's personal.

Being in Mint Eye wouldn't have done anything for Saeran in the way of believing in organized religion. If anything, it's going to sway him a long way away from it. I say one thing, when he talks about living and dying in his After Ending, it's not about Heaven and Hell. It's more in line with living with the person who loved you in your heart.

Like... his memory lives on in you, and maybe he lingers with you, but he's not sure what he believes about life and death. He mentions believing in the idea of guardian angels and love keeping someone alive.

I think Saeran's feelings about religion are incredibly complicated and hard to pin down for a reason. So, we can only navigate the things Saeran's mentioned here and there to gauge what faith looks like to him. His faith is about life and love. He needs more time to navigate life before he decides what feels right for him. For now, he needs to live an average life to enjoy himself. Religion might not be part of his life now, but who knows? The future isn't set in stone but I can't say that I expect him to believe in things anytime soon.

He isn't faithful to Christianity like Saeyoung, but he might be better considered as agnostic if we need to use a label for him for the sake of convenience. He can't deny something without being able to have the facts but he isn't going to put his blind faith into something, either.

Not again.

Got some Ted Lasso thoughts

Keeping in mind I've only watched a few s1 episodes, even fewer s2 episodes, and now 6 or 7 s3 episodes in total and totally at random:

The show seems to be hinting at Ted/Rebecca, what with its lack of subtlety when it comes to those psychic-predicted cues (it's like an anvil falling from the ceiling every time Rebecca comes across a green matchbook, lemme tell you) but I still have to squint to find even a hint of romantic interest between them onscreen, like they're La Croix personified. You know, lacking any real flavor. More the suggestion of a otp than an actual otp. But!! I also wouldn't be surprised if Ted and Rebecca have some very last minute revelations about the other, considering how often this show seems to like to pull the move of having very important moments happen offscreen. Like the team's winning streak, after losing so long and so hard. Like Nate quitting. Like Roy and Keeley getting back together. Etc. Anyway, I'm incredibly indifferent to Ted and Rebecca as a ship, they literally are as bland as🧍‍♂️🧍‍♀️ to me, but I already told @dollsome-does-tumblr I will suppress my feelings and hope she gets some hail mary endgame so! That's what I'm doing! Here I go!

Speaking of Roy and Keeley getting back together. They're great, I do like them, but I'm also curious what the point of having Keeley clock Jamie's character growth in earlier episodes was if theyyy weren't the ones who were getting back together. Just another instance of lack of subtlety? Like the character growth isn't real if it's not being blatantly addressed?

I can be one of 3 people on tumblr.com who like Sam and Rebecca together, that's fine!! I found their awkward run-in quite delightful. It gave vibes of Jeff and Annie, forcibly platonic pats and all. I gotta say, this show makes no sense, though, because I thought for sure that scene, plus the appearance of Edwin Akufo, would lead to Rebecca intervening on Sam's behalf somehow. But, no. The dude really showed up to mock Sam, just because. And Rebecca got pulled into a meeting with him without ever connecting any dots about how cruel he was to him. So that means the moment between her and Sam was there just to... I don't know, remind the audience they used to bone? For no reason????

I skipped past most of the Nate stuff. I didn't watch his descent into villainy so I don't care about this redemption arc. I also don't care about his thing with Jade, who comes off more like a prop than a person.

Trent sitting in with Ted and Rebecca for girl talk was a highlight. I just like him so much. All he does is stare adoringly at the players (slash mostly Ted) and I think that's swell. This show doesn't have a Jim Halpert stare into the camera, it has a Trent Crimm reaction gaze.

The storyline I laughed over most was Dani inventing an intense rivalry between himself and Van Damme simply because they were playing opposite each other. To have the most darling guy on the team so ruthlessly switch to maliciously competitive? Soooo hilarious, especially played against Van Damme, who went from friendly, to wary and confused, to fearful 🤣🤣

I'm dead serious I need more professional doctors that will analyze all this fucked up show together with us the yellowjackets (btw why don't we have a fan fandom name for ourselves? Maybe because we're not 16 ) Now discuss

We kind of have a fandom name! The official TikTok has been saying the hive, but in the discord server I'm in we call ourselves the book club.

I would love to see queer psychologists/psychiatrists weigh in, especially women, but I'd be slightly wary mostly bc my thoughts on the institution are that it's an exploitative, bias-ridden educational system that unfortunately is only just now working on undoing the sexism/racism/ableism/classism/etc baked into it. (Gets off soapbox.)

But yeah! I talk about the show with my therapist and since I've been receiving professional mental health services since I was a kid (and at some point decided to take a couple of classes in college) I like to pretend I'm well-versed in enough to provide some insights with a critical enough lens. I think the way the show is handling trauma in women is honestly so incredible and unbelievably respectful given how traumatized women in media are almost instantly villainized by the narrative and audiences.

I am, of course, wary that the only women whose mental health issues exist beyond the trauma of The Wilderness and Misty's pre-crash bullying are women of color - that seems to be something the showrunners wrote unintentionally, then cast Lottie as a woc, and didnt revise post-casting. I hope they deal with these sensitively as it moves forward and we see more of the other girls, but since the surviving/named supporting cast is mostly woc (Gen, Crystal, Akilah, Mari compared with iirc just Melissa) I'm not entirely sure how they could remedy this. Natalie has pre-crash trauma that looks to have developed into PTSD and is an abuse survivor, so she's likely dealing with CPTSD but we don't see that much in her teen years storyline beyond substance abuse (which stopped in the forest) and the one flash of her dad as the plane was going down. We see Shauna grieving but it's only been two months - she's having a trauma response on top of the existing trauma of the wilderness. That's not mental illness (yet) that's just being constantly traumatized.

Character ask: Esmeralda (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

This answer is for the Disney version, not for the original novel character, whom I'm not really familiar with.

Favorite thing about them: She's one of my favorite Disney heroines. She's tough, witty, and smart, yet kind, selfless, and idealistic, she's lively and full of fire, yet dignified too, she knows when to be fierce, when to be gentle, and when to be funny, and she's a brave, outspoken champion of the underdog.

I also like that she's sensual and sexy yet never slut-shamed by the narrative, just by the villainous Frollo (though I'll admit that portraying a Romani woman that way does have unfortunate implications; see below), and that she's allowed to not return Quasimodo's romantic feelings without being portrayed as clueless or ungrateful to him.

Least favorite thing about them: That in some ways she's a stereotype of a Romani woman. I wish that the filmmakers had taken more pains to portray the culture accurately, and not sexualized Esmeralda quite so much.

Though I appreciate that in-universe, "sexy Romani dancer" is a role she plays because it earns money (she tells Quasimodo that she wouldn't be a street dancer if she had his talent as a woodcarver). And I'm glad that at least she is a sympathetic, heroic Romani character, unlike in the original novel where she's a white girl who was kidnapped by the Romani as a baby. (Ugh!)

Three things I have in common with them:

*I have dark hair.

*I care very much about social justice and standing up for outcasts.

*I like to wear purple.

Three things I don't have in common with them:

*I'm not stunningly beautiful and desired by multiple men.

*I doubt I could survive on the streets or as a fugitive from the law.

*I'm not Romani.

Favorite line:

In crossover fics, I also enjoy seeing her interact with other heroines from '90s animated film, especially Belle, Megara, and Anastasia. They all have a lot in common, but striking differences too that could make them interesting foils for each other.

OTP: Phoebus.

nOTP: Frollo.

Random headcanon: Her parents were killed when she was very young, and Clopin has effectively been her father figure ever since.

Unpopular opinion: I don't think her lack of romantic interest in Quasimodo is because he idolizes her too much. She just doesn't have romantic feelings for him, and it's nobody's fault. She loves him as a friend, but Phoebus – whose maturity, humor, rugged edge, and fighting spirit more closely match her own – is the type of man she wants as a romantic partner. I agree that she and Quasi wouldn't have been right for each other even if she had been interested, in part because he idolizes her too much, but also because she pities him too much. (Why does the fandom criticize him for calling her an "angel" but not her for calling him "this poor creature"?) But I don't think that's the reason why she chooses Phoebus instead.

Also, contrary to what Disney Wiki says, I don't think she and Phoebus are about to kiss in the cathedral when Frollo bursts in to have her arrested. Staring into each other's eyes and feeling drawn to each other doesn't always mean "about to kiss." I think it's important that her feelings for Phoebus don't fully cross from wary attraction into love until he proves that he's a true ally, by (a) saving her with the lie to Frollo that she claimed sanctuary, and (b) rescuing the miller's family at the cost of his career and potentially his life.
