Whispers of destiny
Chapter 1
Wedding hells🔔
Bela's POV:
I'm a homebody, especially when it comes to avoiding weddings. People aren't really my scene. But hey, food? Now that's my jam. I rocked a pearl white dress with white scarf, and tauny brown khussa, feeling like my own version of Princess Jasmine. That's some serious self-love, right?
"Bit bright?" Aunty judged, rolling her eyes.
"Who?" I looked around innocently.
"Obviously, you, Bela!" She smirked firing back.
"Well, aunty pouring a white creamy sauce over brownie ever made brownie white? Or have you seen gulab jamun turning white upon pouring a sweet sauce? I fired back.
"You've got a point, but no one will marry you with that dark skin, beta," Aunty smirked, thinking she'd won.
"Thank God, I have dark skin, not a dark mind like them. So, that won't work out, Aunty. And please, don't worry about me." I laughed it off.
"No, beta, you're missing the point. White just doesn't suit you," Aunty persisted.
"I liked your 'Black Lives Matter' post on Facebook. Nice supporting black lives while bullying brown ones," I retorted, adjusting my hijab. Suddenly, aunty was saved by an imaginary caller - she vanished in seconds.
"Queenie, you dropped this," a teenage girl pretended to hand me a crown. We shared a laugh, that "don't-tell-us-what-to-do" kind. Meanwhile, the newlyweds exchanged glances while laughing.
Desi aunties, never letting up at weddings, always have something to say - weight, complexion, age, you name it. And don't get me started on their obsession with beauty remedies from YouTube channels predicting the world's end!
"Wait, let me guess, Samrina's daughter? All grown up!" Aunty excitedly guessed.
"Oh, Aunty, I remember you!" I tried to match her energy, figuring her out.
"Have you seen my mom?" I asked again.
"She was right there talking to a lady," she replied.
"Thank you so much!" I flashed a bright smile.
"Ammi," I grabbed her hand.
"Yes, beta? Is everything okay?" Ammi asked.
"Everything's fine, except me. I'm starving. When's the food?" I fake-cried.
Ammi chuckled. "What would people say? This girl's here only for food?"
"Exactly! You drag me to these events, and you know why I come." I narrowed my eyes playfully.
"What else can drag you out of your kingdom?" Ammi teased.
"Okay, let's eat something and go home," I suggested, heading to the buffet.
The spicy chicken tikka was so aromatic, blending perfectly with the environment. "Ready to go?" I wiped my mouth with a tissue.
"They'll say we were here just for food," Ammi joked.
"That's the truth. We were here for the food," I said, making an innocent face.
"Assalamualaikum, Aunty, how are you?" An unfamiliar voice interrupted.
"Wa alaikum assalam, Saad, beta," Ammi responded gently.
"Congratulations on your sister's wedding. They look good together," Ammi said, observing the couple.
"Jazakallah khayran, Aunty," he smiled.
I noticed some action that signaled a message between Ammi and me.
"Saad, uncle's looking for you," Hadeed interrupted.
As Saad hurried away, I couldn't help but notice his good sense of style, wearing white shalwar qameez, the classic Pakistani drama look. But I wasn't interested in checking him out. Whenever aunties ask me about what I look in a guy, I look away, i answer which always offends them.
As I adjusted my white embroidered dupatta, it got stuck somewhere. When I turned back, I saw him pulling away, and my dupatta got freed from his silver watch. My heart sank - what just happened? This was my choice of color today. How could someone with the same color scheme casually appear, and my dupatta get tangled in his stuff?
"Destiny?" I pondered. "Is this my Bollywood moment?"
"Haram, haram, haram," Mufti Menk's voice echoed. "Stop looking over there, stupid Bela."
"We gotta go," I grabbed Mom's hand, and we made our exit.

Tu Maan Meri Jaan
Jake Seresin x Desi!Reader Headcanon + The Dagger Squad and Maverick
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: Hey Guys! So, @girl-in-the-chairs-void and I sort of slipped into the topic of conversation of a Jake getting married to a Desi woman and we both were so in love with the idea that we came up with this. I want to thank you, Pav, for always helping me break out of creative blocks and always being there for me in general. And ofc, I also want to thank you for working with me to create something that can desi and brown girls in this fandom can relate to. To all you, We hope you love it! Now, even I sometimes forget some of the terms that are used for Indian wedding functions so I’ll try to drop a quick explanation in parenthesis after specific terms 😊 But if I miss anything or you’re confused, just let me know in a comment and I’ll be sure to explain it.
Also, A few months ago I saw a reel on Glen’s Instagram of him at Nick and Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ Diwali party so here’s that 😁
-------------------------------------------------------------
I completely melt at the thought of Jake getting married to a South Asian bride and they make the wedding half Western and half South Asian.
I feel like he’d already just love the parts of your culture that you share with him. When you go to plan your wedding, he’d already be down to do a multiple-function, multi-day wedding and his sisters and parents would be so excited.
When you first started dating, he didn’t understand the things you whisper to him in your language.
He makes it his mission to learn a little bit of your language without telling you. So, when you speak to your family or friends and it’s mostly them teasing you two, he knows but doesn’t mention it until later.
Like on the reception he just whispers “meri jaan” My life or something sweet in your ear as the Pandit (Priest) officiates it.
All the little kids calling him the various names for “uncle” and you’re feeling so proud and holding them all close to you, he looks at you so softly, getting the kids to leave the stage as they scurry off after hugging both of you.
Jake on a horse, riding his way to your house with the Baraat, and being a natural because he’s no stranger to horse riding.
Him seeing you in the wedding lehenga for the first time and just forgetting how to speak.
You are not expecting to be as speechless as you are when you see him in his wedding outfit. And he would tease the hell out of you about it.
His dirty blond hair glistening in the harsh light coming from the camera man and seeing the rest of the squad in traditional desi clothes is the cherry on top.
He had his hands in the air as the dhol and drums (a traditional drumset that plays live at weddings) echo loudly, mimicking some of the dance moves your father or brother may have taught him.
He gets down on one knee as he approaches the stage where you stand, a ring in hand, maybe saying a few sentences in your language that has you crying.
“Main aur kisi ke bare main kaise soch sakta hoon jab meri duniya mere samne hai?” Basically how can I think about someone else when my whole world is in front of me?
Also, I headcanon sometimes that Jake loves to dance and his whole family really enjoys dancing at the wedding. It usually take a glass of wine or so to get him loose but the man can dance.
They drag him onto the stage and what people don’t know is that he has been practicing his moves.
If a lot of Punjabi families are there, then we know we got the booze flowing and as soon as the songs come on, he is going at it.
You are laughing and giggling in your chair as you watch him do bhangra or any other type of dance that he has up his sleeve.
You’re just like, “Babe…. where did you learn to dance like that? When did you find the time to learn this?” “Well, I am a Seresin, Darlin’.”
The wedding vows go like this:
“The things I do for you my love, but today, I wanna dedicate this day, not to us; but to you. Because my heart has been so full of you that I simply cannot call it mine anymore. My soul has been bewitched and my mind has been taken over by every thought of you. I am a mere reflection- a shadow of you. There was a quote in this movie we watched on our third date: om shanti om (apologies for the pronunciation); you said it was your favorite movie growing up and you cried when shah rukh khan said; "Itni shiddat se maine tumhe paane ki koshish ki hai, ki har zarre ne mujhe tumse milane ki saazish ki hai. So today as our worlds gather around us to witness this beautiful moment, I want to say to you; mujhse shaadi karogi?”
To which you just laugh and say “We’re already married, dumbass” while tugging him up to kiss him and whisper, “A thousand times yes.”
The food, omg, okay. So, in your 5 year long relationship, you have never seen him enjoy pani-puri as much as you do at your own wedding. He happily ate them whenever you went out to eat at an Indian restaurant or made him eat Lamb Karahi (for my Pakistani girls out there), he ate it with a smile on his face, but usually, all he could feel was his mouth going numb at the spice.
But now, he is just gobbling them down. The shocking part? He’s eating them with the spicy water.
You’re shocked because he can handle more spice than you almost. And when you mention it he’s like “Baby you know I like it spicy”😉😉
Every daal or butter chicken or biryani that is brought to the table is just eaten, mostly by him.
When you taste the things yourself, the spice is there but he hasn’t picked up his glass
When you look at him, He just shrugs and says “I’m hungry.”
And you’re already reaching for water now and again.
Rooster and Javy are borderline crying.
And you keep giving them dahi (yogurt) to cut the spice because even you’re starting to
Even Phoenix can handle her spice, but Jake is surpassing that level and your mom is impressed to say the least.
Rooster watching hangman eat straight spicy biryani like 👁👄👁️
The Mehendi (a wedding function in which the bride, groom and guests’ hands and somethings feet are decorated with ethnic temporary tattoos” and Haldi rasam (a wedding function in which a yellow paste made from turmeric is applied to the bride’s and groom’s skin) has you thinking he looks absolutely adorable.
The yellow pastes make his skin glow and while everyone is admiring him all the young girls and aunties eyes are on him, he is just admiring you from the corner of the room as you get the haldi all over you.
You don't notice his eyes on you through the thin curtain until your mother whispers to you: “Everybody’s watching him, but he’s only been looking at you”
If there is haldi left after the ceremony you and Jake just attack Mav and the squad with it.
And the aunties probably have something to say about how he’s just completely all over you, but you two don’t even care. You’re already too far gone into the bliss of your wedding preparations and traditions that nothing seems to affect your mood.
He’d probably really enjoy the fact that your wedding outfits reveal the midriff if you wear a lehenga. For each function that you wear one or even a sari, he probably really likes being able to feel your skin on his when he puts his arm around your waist.
Maybe if you decide to have a destination wedding in the house you rented, he shows up late at night at your door in a beige or black kurta that your mum made him wear, a few buttons undone from the top, hair a little messy.
He was up with your male family members playing antakshari (a card game often played at celebratory occasions).
If it’s in India, he takes you to a late-night drive to eat ice cream. You introduce him to paan and chai, two common late nigh street foods.
You threaten him that if he ever calls chai, chai tea, you will divorce him.
When you get back it’s dark and late enough that no one else is awake, he quietly slips into your room as you both try to take in the last few days, barely having a moment to yourselves, as he just stays there and holds you until you drift off to sleep and when you do, he gives you a kiss on the forehead before slipping back into his room.
There’s a tradition where the brides name is written in the groom’s mehndi, and the groom’s name is written in the bride’s. When it comes to him trying to find his name in your hands, it takes him time, but he finds it hiding in the side of your pinky, because when you are nervous you hold onto each other’s pinky’s in a crowded room. It was a small thing you guys used to do before you had started dating.
If you've hidden his name as well, he finds it immediately but takes his name pretending like he didn’t see it just to play with your hands longer.
Yours is hidden in a kaleidoscope of stars and things he’s got on his palms and wrists, it’s in a moon shaped piece that has another thing written under it “mera chaand” My moon.
Phoenix shows up in the most stunning outfits and turns out she has dressed up every single one of the dagger boys.
It came as a surprise to you when she helps you with your jewelry, having known about many uncommon things about the certain things you were putting on.
She manages to take the boys away from you as you are getting ready for your main ceremony.
You both keep a Polaroid of the two of you getting ready, hair and makeup done, mehndi pristine, bangles on, jewelry pretty much all on and your outfits are on the hangers. Standing with arms around each other in tank tops and shorts and it’s the funniest sight. It's a memory you’ll cherish forever with your best friend.
Dude, can you just imagine Javy, Rooster, Mickey and Reuben all lifting the kids at the wedding in the air and pretending like they’re flying fighter jets. The kids are just like “I love Reuben uncle!” And “Jake maamaji is my favorite”.
After the wedding ceremony everyone’s making jokes about how y’all are probably going to get it on but you’re both so tired that you just fall asleep.
Before you do, Jake helps you take off your jewelry.
He counts the huge amount of bobby pins in your hair, the pile is bigger than your head. His eyes are wide by the time he is done taking out the last one.
“Do you have anything else hiding in your skull somewhere? How did your head not fall?”
“Yeah, now you know why I’m so tired, I’m carrying twice my head’s normal weight.”
You let your clothes just fall to the floor but being the neat freak that he is, he goes to pick them up and put them on the hanger. He groans at the weight of it because it is just so heavy.
“Babe, how were you walking in this? Are you a bodybuilder?”
“Damn, Jake, I thought you navy officers were strong. Can’t even carry a dress??” He glares at you playfully.
He will not stop referring to you as Mrs. Seresin for ages.
You both lay down and just take in the past few days.
He says “Goodnight Mrs. Seresin”. You both just let yourselves fall asleep in like oversized shirts and underwear because you’re too tired to find anything else.
The next day you choose to have a little Western wedding party reception.
And he didn’t know what you were going to wear so when he sees you in a white wedding dress, he loses his mind. Bonus points if it’s Jake’s Mom’s dress.
Mrs. Seresin loves you, and seeing you make her son so happy, just fulfills her life mission.
You look angelic in it.
You remember when he had teased you about how when he gets married he’d take the Garter off with his teeth like some people do and I feel like even if he didn’t, he’d tickle up your leg a little as he took it off with his hands.
He lets his hands roam around a little longer than needed, announcing that he can’t feel it until he disappears under your dress. He has is in his mouth as he reappears from under your dress, secretly giving it a sniff before tugging it into his pocket.
You get so flustered because your mother and his parents were there too.
Your father would be so mad, as most Asian dads would be in this situation.
Jake's mom might spontaneously combust; “Doesn’t this boy feel embarrassed?”
and the aunties will go feral. You don’t even care though because you’re way too in love with the man in front of you. But everyone had a good laugh over it, it was cute how in love you two are.
You cut cake and toss the bouquet.
Rooster just cuts through- like the diva he is and catches it.
Maybe giving it to your sister or a cousin of yours he’s been eyeing…
And everyone just tells stories from them about how you made naval aviators fall in love with the brown women in your family. Because it’s a common thing for a lot of matches to be made at desi weddings. They’re usually so big; friends and very extended family are invited from both sides and over the 3-7 days you all spend together, it’s not uncommon for some people to exchange numbers or so.
Like it all started there for everyone.
You and Jake take total credit for all the matches that were made.
Even phoenix, she saw your distant cousin that she got along with when your wedding ceremonies started and as she gets to know her; you stumble upon them on the rooftop on a late night, wrapped up in each other’s arms, a blanket around the two of them
Bonus points if you and Jake caught them there together and you all agree to just never mention it because you two weren’t supposed to be there either.
Imagine rooster giving the bouquet to your sister.
Like that man has been following her around the entire time the wedding ceremonies. It’s like a classic trope in a Bollywood movie.
One night, you’re looking for your earring which you’re convinced you sister took. And you walk into her room and he’s just there, minding his own business, chilling on his phone and he just jumps seeing you walk in, trying to explain.
Jake doesn’t even realize that rooster is involved with your sister until he sees them dancing. He just turns to you and is like “Are you seeing what I’m seeing?” And you’re just sitting there, smirking. *I know what you are dog meme*
According to Punjabi tradition, you have to wear a red set of bangles after the wedding as a sign of being a newlywed woman.
According to tradition you need to keep it on until you have kids or like at least for a year.
It’s not even a year after your marriage that Jake comes home to find your wrists empty of the beloved bangle set he’s so used to. Oh. Oh.
He knows what it means. The empty wrists have him staring, and he’s dying to ask whether you took it off because of discomfort or if there is bigger news behind it.
After an hour of pondering, he gives up his patience and asks you.
“Oh, I was waiting until later to tell you this but…”
You drag him to the nearest seat, sitting him down as you sit opposite, burying your hands into your cardigan pocket and around the plastic stick that felt  a little too heavy now that you were face to face with him. This is what you had been trying for, it's good news. The warmth in his eyes encourages you to let it be, that this was the right time.
You place the pregnancy test in front of him, he picks it up to inspect as his face lights up with joy that you had only seen the day you got married. In a flurry, he just picks you up and spins you around. You're screeching for him to put you down, but he refuses, burying his face into your stomach as you laugh.
When he does put you down, he makes you sit on the couch with him as he bends down to your stomach; “Hey there champ, you gonna give your ma trouble for the next few months huh?”

“Seungcheol one shot”
Pairing: Choi Seungcheol x female reader
Genre: fluff [desi setting]
Warnings: no warnings
Word count: 1.5 K
A/N: This is what happens if I get high on Seungcheol after midnight. This is my first time writing a desi au or one-shot. I can’t believe I finally did this, hope you’ll like it <3
desi imagine masterlist
I was checking the arrangements for the weddings. After talking with my cousins, I spotted Seungcheol, I wanted to go and talk to him. I didn’t get a chance to talk to him the whole day because of the arrangements, and now I was busy with family members. I wished at times, that I didn’t care about anyone and make it so obvious that I’m his and I want to spend time with him even in this busy situation. I was enjoying the wedding but looking at him talking with his friends, I was craving for his hugs and warmth, I was so excited to show my lehenga to him but I didn’t even get a chance to show him properly.
My cousin called me suddenly and I had to leave the place, even before Seungcheol could turn to look at me.
“Nishi, these are my close friends, and they wanted to meet you” I gave them a smile. After introducing themselves and talking a bit, I excused myself when my phone started ringing. My face lit up with a smile the moment I saw the caller id. I was about to pick up and then I spotted him.
If I could then I would've run into his arms because I missed him a lot. I was so busy because of this wedding, even thought being eachother’s neighbors I couldn’t even meet him even once the past two weeks.
We barely talked because of how busy I was.
I was walking towards him and saw him standing alone. Everything felt like it slowed down around me, I felt like I couldn’t even hear anything and only saw his dimples when he smiled. I couldn’t process anything when I saw him, wearing the  kurta, he looked so beautiful.
Soon I was standing infront of him, the urge to hug him tight was way too high, I was barely controlling myself from holding his hand in public. He suddenly leaned towards me, “come with me for a minute” his lips almost touching my ears, I was barely holding myself back from doing anything. He pulled himself back and gave me his beautiful smile.
We were walking together, wherever he was taking me. While walking I realized I was almost done for this night until all the rituals started, and I had to be present till then I could sneak out for some time and spend some time with him. I could do this for the very least.
How much I wanted to tell him that he looks so beautiful in this kurta and his dimples were making me fall in love over and over again with him.
I saw one of my cousin’s friend, Aditya coming towards us, I got almost nervous for a second and then realized Seungcheol held my dupatta and pulled me closer to him slowly, I were taken aback with this side of him. I looked at him in surprise, “why would you do that?”
“I saw the way he was looking at you when you were with your cousin, introducing yourself.” The smile and the small tug on my dupatta was everything to tell me, how he was feeling. He’s insane at times and I love him for this.
“You were watching me?”
“No, taking care of you from a distance.”
Soon, we reached the rooftop if the balcony, no one was there and it somehow felt peaceful with him. the stars, the lights which were used to decorate the whole place. knowing no one would come right now, because I locked the door after coming here. And it was just us in the rooftop under the beautiful moon.
We were standing infront of eachother and I could see the longing feelings in his eyes, I wished he could see that in my eyes as well. I took a step closer to him and he suddenly pulled me by my waist, his hands touching my bare skin, a quick shiver ran down my body while I was looking at him. He smiled at me, I just wanted to admire him so much right now. I slowly put my hands on his shoulder and smiled back at him. He looked so mesmerizing today, “I missed you”, “I missed you too Cheol.”
“You look breathtaking today love” I was so flustered, whenever he calls me ‘love’, “what? You look really breathtaking in this beautiful lehenga” and before I could reply him anything, he leaned towards me and gave a quick kiss.
I was taken aback. “Ch-Cheol”
“Yes Love?”
“You’re insane” he laughed softly, “You have no idea how much I missed you. It was so difficult now to pull you closer everytime I saw you tonight, I was just holding myself back from calling you. But the moment I saw I could help you sneak out a bit, I didn’t hesitate anymore” I smiled at him.
“This golden kurta suits you a lot, and you look beautiful” I finally told him, which was inside me.
“You like this kurta?” I nodded unable to look at him, I was shy and flustered. He slowly lifted my chin and made me look at him, “you’re so adorable Nishi” and kissed my cheeks.
I was about to say something but then realized the change in song, and the moment I recognized the song I couldn’t speak anything anymore; ‘Aashiqui (Theme Song)’ started playing. And if I could describe the moment, it couldn’t be more perfect. I was staring at him and our bodies started reacting to this music already and we were dancing slowly. I had no idea how we started dancing to this song automatically, maybe because it’s our favorite song and it holds a lot of memories.
Somehow, his chin was resting on top of my head at first and then automatically my head was resting on his chest, I could hear this heartbeat. There was a lovely rhythm in that and the way I feeling was something I couldn’t describe.
Everything felt so perfect, it felt like we were telling eachother a lot of things without using any words, and this was enough for us to communicate. We don’t need to say everything, sometimes our actions and silence is enough for the other other to understand what do we want to say. And by this, I was telling him, ‘if only time could stop here and we never had to go back downstairs and stay apart from eachother.’
I wanted to hold his hand forever and roam around this whole place, doesn’t matter even if it’s anyone’s wedding.
People say, you fall in love deeper with a person, without even realizing and when you realize it’s too late but for me, I think realizing was the best thing that I can’t stay away from him and leave him. Rather I stay with him till the end no matter what. That’s how much I love him.
“Cheol…” I felt like telling him. He didn’t say anything, his silence telling me to continue, “sometimes I feel, how will I be telling my mom, how much I love you and want to be with you?” his hugs tighten and I start feeling like home, “why are you worrying so much, eventually they will get to know about us, its not like we will hide this forever, we need to tell them one day or other and the day we decide to tell them I would be standing there holding your hand to support you.” A small smile broke on my face, I lifted my face and looked at him, I was wearing heels but I was still short infront of him, I tiptoed and gave him a quick kiss.
“It’s not like we are forbidden from loving eachother, it’s just that they don’t know and they will know one day. There’s no reason to be ashamed of our love; our love is something that made me strong. And I know, they will accept us.” He placed a kiss on my forehead.
“can’t you be mine already? I miss you every second” I looked at him in surprise, this guy is known for his flirting. “Cheol-
“I love you so much Cheol”
“I love you too”
He kissed me again and this time, he pulled me closer by my waist. And the song, playing in the background was telling me to fall in love with him more. I could feel all the emotions in his kiss, I pushed him back slightly because I was out of breath. I looked at him, his hands were touching my lips, “you know, how much I want to ruin your pretty lipstick but I can’t do that because it won’t look good on you specially when everyone’s around you and looking at you.”
“You’re insane.” He laughed again and placed a kiss on my forehead.
“My pretty lady looking gorgeous in this lehenga, I hope boys stop making moves on you tonight or else I really need to disclose that you’re mine”
“Stop, you know I don’t bother with other guys” he pulled me into a hug again.

You had found yourself dressed in an elaborate Westerosi gown, the red silk soft against your skin. The corset they had put you in was… strange, having your chest and waist squeezed into place. As for the hair,  your handmaiden, Kavita, had delicately fastened your gold tiara with a complex braid and the rest of your dark hair flowing. You felt like a bride, dressed in such fine red, for red is the colour of brides and married women in your culture.
“You will be the true beauty amongst these people, rajkumari,” Kavita said, her coppery complexion gleaming in the afternoon sun. “I am certain they’d have never seen a woman as exquisite as you,”
“I hope your words are true,” You sighed. Always being one to dress for yourself, it would be perhaps the first time you had dressed to impress. You had an audience to present yourself to - your nation’s reputation rested on your shoulders. You reminded yourself of their mannerisms and food styles, when to start eating and how to speak in their tongue. With your luck, this would be the time you’d forget all english and sit there making a fool of yourself.
“The carriage is here for you, rajkumari,” Your personal guard, Raman, said. He was a big man - tall and built of strong muscles. “The One-Eyed Prince is here for you.”
“Oh,” you said. Oh no, what am I supposed to do? I don’t think I can do this. “Tell him that I’ll be out in a few moments.”
You stood up, examining your appearance once again in the large mirror, twirling around. The boned corset was a bit uncomfortable, and the multiple layers of skirts you had put on before the bright red skirt and the bodice. The mass of this gown could rival your lehengas for your elder brother’s wedding.
Finally exhaling your nerves, you smiled at Kavita before you stepped out of your room. Your lovely handmaiden followed you, ensuring that your dress and hair remained intact, at least until you reached the carriage.
Aemond’s presence was like that of a phantom. You sensed his presence before you saw him - there was a buzz in your nerves and your heart pounded erratically at his burning gaze. And you knew, even though he was missing an eye, he saw more than everyone else. He was power, materialised. People rose from their seats or thrummed in their place, but he brought motion in everyone: they respected him and feared him - and you weren’t so different.
His powerful gaze seemed to burn your skin through the heavy gown, but you held your chin high, meeting his void gaze. You wanted to learn his art of masking his emotions well, because you weren’t too sure of your brows - they always gave you away.
The afternoon sun reflected the planes of his face, making it appear sharper than it was. His silver hair was impeccable as usual, and his leather eyepatch added to his odd charm. Adorning a long black coat over his usual black tunic, he looked much like the apparition of death as these people claimed. But Prince Aemond was ethereal to look at. And even if your parents denied the marriage proposal, you could pretend to be his for one evening.
“Princess Y/N,” He bowed, offering you his hand. His long, thin fingers shone with a wicked promise. He had the hands of an experienced blade yielder.
“Prince Aemond,” You curtseyed, placing your hand in his. He was surprisingly warm. Blood of the dragon had fire. A small gasp left your mouth when he gently kissed your hand, his soft lips leaving goosebumps in their wake. Even Kavita had her brows raised in shock, while Raman’s hand instantly grabbed his sword. You quickly collected yourself and motioned him to loosen up.
“I have come to take you to the Feast.” Aemond declared, his voice smooth like ghee. He hadn’t yet let go of your hand. “Your guard may accompany us on a horse. Arrangements have been made for your stay in the Red Keep, Your Highness.”
“That’s very thoughtful of you, my Prince.” You said, smiling. He opened the carriage door and helped you up, Kavita assisting with the multiple skirts. The coachman closed the door, and you waved “see you later” at Kavita.
“You look especially lovely this evening,” Aemond commented, once you were both in the privacy of the carriage. “The Westorsi clothing becomes you.”
“Thank you, my Prince.” You chuckled, heat rising up your cheeks. “It is good to know that my lovely handmaid's efforts have paid off.” Giving him a clear once over from the tip of his boots to the silky hair, you said with a shy smile, “And you look quite handsome.” Ethereal. Fallen from the Heavens.
The shadows through the windows cast a woeful charm on his beautiful face. “You mustn’t lie for my sake.” he said, looking down.
“I think you are too harsh on yourself.” You said.
“And I think you are too kind to me.” He softly muttered, looking up, straight into your soul. A shiver rose from the tip of your toes, but you forced it to stop. “The Red Keep is still far away,” he said.
“And I want to know what a prince of Westeros does to pass time,” you asked, holding his piercing gaze with equal fire. If he was trying to intimidate you, you were going to intimidate him just as fiercely. “With everyone at your command, I don’t think you need to work a day in your life.”
“Well, I like to train with the blade,” He said, raising his good brow. “And I like to read.”
“A well-read swordsman?” You prompted, smirking slightly. Aemond’s tense shoulders and eyebrow relaxed, subtly, but you had been staring too intently. His being consumed the entirety of your focus. “We seem to be more similar than I initially thought.”
“What similarity did you think we had, my Princess?” He asked, curious.
“You’ll find out,” You said, smiling sweetly. The more you spoke, the more confident you felt. “Eventually.”
“You are a dangerous woman,” He concluded, his lilac eye gleaming with something darker and deadlier than interest.
“And you are a dangerous man.” You stated, holding his steady gaze.
A spark had ignited in the carriage as the both of you fell silent, speaking without words with the setting sun and the cabin of the carriage as your audience.
Only when the coachman stopped at the entry to the Red Keep did Aemond finally look away, even then the bastard had a slight smirk on his face. He didn’t look at you, the absence of his lilac gaze leaving you with a strange chill. As the carriage came to a stop in front of the castle’s entrance, a servant opened the door and Aemond stepped out, holding his hand out to you.
The strange spark dancing between the two leaves as you exit the carriage, masks sliding back into place.
The touch of his large, calloused hand against your smaller one brought you much needed assurance as you stood upright, smoothing out your dress.
Aemond offers you his elbow, and you place your hand delicately on this long black coat, able to feel the warmth of his taut muscles. It was selfishly comforting to know that he was just as tense as you were. Your little mistakes would be easily forgiven.
The boisterous talking and music could be heard outside of the hall. King Aegon and his Queen Haelena were already there, and the lords and the ladies didn’t shy away from impressing themselves. The guards opened the gates on spotting Aemond, and the crowd fell silent as he entered with the beautiful woman in red.
All the eyes were focused on you, and the only thing you could feel was judgement and condescension from your observers. But you didn’t look at them, opting to look straight ahead at the Queen and her mother. You briefly let go of Aemond’s elbow as you curtseyed and he bowed.
“Welcome to the feast, Princess Y/N,” King Aegon said, smirking as he raised his glass. “Do take a seat, and let us entertain you.”
Two spots had been left empty at the table beside Haelena. Aemond pulled a chair out for you and then sat himself between you and his sister.
“You look lovely, the colour red becomes you,” Haelena commented. “I wished I could accompany Aemond and Mother to your festivities, but I had to take Dreamfyre out for her long flight, she was getting irksome.”
“No worries, Your Grace.” you said, smiling. “You can join us for other festivities.”
“I surely will, Mother said it was a lot of fun!” She laughed, and it was the purest sound ever. “When do you have your next festival?”
“In two months time,” you said. “Our next big festival will be Rath Yatra.”
Aemond is sat between the two of you, eye going back and forth as you speak. You explain to them the significance of the festival and how Lord Jagannath and his siblings go to their “holiday home” for about 20 days and the loud celebrations of that day. You didn’t have the temple privileges of Bharat here, but your craftsmen had made little statues of Lord Jagannath and his two siblings.
“You have a very different faith than ours.” Aemond noted. He had a slight smile on his face from hearing you talk so joyously: your cheeks were flushed with merry excitement as the food was served and the wine started to pour. The orchestra started to play upbeat music, and the conversations faded into the background.
The former Queen’s three children presently mingled with the crowd, greeting the noble lords and ladies of their land, assessing the traitors and the faithful. While the Dowager Queen Alicent was sitting beside you, admiring your appearance.
“You are the prettiest in this gown!” She said, making heat flush your cheeks. Perhaps it was the wine, but it made you a bit more prone to blushing.
“You look beautiful as always,” You loudly spoke over the music. She was dressed in a different green gown than the morning, looking no less stunning. “Green is your colour!”
“Thank you, my dear.” She said, eyes crinkling with a smile.
You had developed an ability of sensing his presence before he came into your vision, holding a rare, shy smile on his ethereal face. Aemond’s lilac eye gleamed with interest and you didn’t notice people going to the dance floor, your entire attention again captured by this enigmatic phantom of a prince. You felt yourself smiling at his presence, and asked, “What brings you here, my Prince?”
“May I have your first dance of the night, my Princess?” Aemond asked, bowing with his hand extended to you.
“But I don’t know this dance form,” you said, panic settling in your bones. This is how I am going to make a fool of myself aren’t I?
“I will lead you,” He promised. “You won’t fall.”
“Alright then,” you said, accepting his extended hand. He was just so warm.
Aemond’s walk was confident as he led you to the dance floor, but you had never felt so timid in your life as you did now. You quickly observed all the other pairs dancing on the floor, and their impeccable postures and how they moved gracefully with the music.
“Place your hand on my shoulder, like this,” He took your free hand and gently planted it on his shoulder. And all you could think was he had firm muscles disguised by his lean body. “And I place my hand on your waist.”
“Okay,” you mumbled, looking at his face. He was slightly flustered himself, so at odds with the stoic image of him that you had gotten used to in the few weeks he had spent visiting your camp. “You’re not used to this, are you?”
“Hmm?” Aemond asked. “Not really no, I have danced with my mother though.”
“Aren’t you just the sweetest,” You said, grinning cheekily.
“It’s not sweet, actually.” He sighed. “The ladies of the court are repulsed by me.”
“As a lady of another court, I’d like to disagree.” You boldly said, leaving him utterly speechless. His lilac eye was wide and almost searching for lies in yours, you firmly held his gaze as he wordlessly guided you through the motions of the dance. After fumbling your steps awfully for a few moments, you got the hang of it, passing decent levels. It all came down to the fact that the more you did something, the more confident you got.
It was now Aemond’s turn to be timid and shy. He avoided your gaze persistently, managing to look shy, solemn and disinterested all at the same time. If it weren’t for the pink tinge on his cheeks, you’d think he was bored.
“You never did tell me what you like to read,” you asked as a motion led you close to him. He was fairly tall, and you had to look up at him to see his face, but you were glad you did because you could clearly see the slight curve of his lips as he smiled.
“I like reading the history of Westeros and Old Valyria,” he said. “And I love philosophy, the questions of our existence and the purpose of it. Though, I am also fond of strategies and a mild sprinkle of fiction.”
You couldn’t stop the grin on your face at his response, eyes twinkling with excitement. “You were destined to be my friend, Aemond Targaryen,” you said. “Although I do prefer reading science over philosophy, I cannot deny that the subject piques my interest. Oftentimes I wonder why, but I don’t bother to search answers,”
“Maybe that’s something I can assist you with, Y/N L/N,” he said.
You learnt an interesting bit about him, conversations with him had to be initiated for this was a man who had lived in shadows away from the attention of the crows and didn’t need to speak much. His terrifying reputation and intimidating presence did it for him - how he was a phantom and a physical force, you did not know. You only knew that his silent presence allured you as much as it terrified the others.
And you weren’t certain if that was a good thing.
The thing about crowds is that they jump to conclusions based on the perspective of a few. Nothing the folks had told you about the prince had come to be true - but there hadn’t been much to say either way. He was a quiet man, but a fierce presence - rider of the largest dragon in the world and a great combatant.
But he was also a timid young man afraid to scare the ladies, someone who needed a push to start talking. You didn’t think he was capable of speaking so many words before this evening, but even so his eye spoke a thousand words more than his lips ever did. Understanding this man was more about picking up on the silent hints than waiting for his words. This might mean trouble.
Yet, you thought of the deep respect he held for his mother, the duty he felt for his family - always cleaning up his brother’s messes, you had gathered.
Perhaps it was this duty that he felt that made you believe that your father wouldn’t refuse the offer right away.

The next afternoon.
It was just the second day of the wedding week and everything was already beginning to change in Charles' mind.
The wedding reminded Charles of a side of Advika's personality that he had loved so much, looking ever so happy and joking around the people she was comfortable around and making sure his mom felt included by explaining all the customs in the wedding they were attending. He also saw her dancing without any care in the world with Naysha, Ria and their friends to Indian songs during the engagement party, which was a totally different side from the slow and enticing dance moves she had while performing her side. Lando, Oscar and him definitely couldn't get their eyes off their girls, earning a lot of teases from Pierre.
Charles wanted to slap his own head, what made him think that breaking up with Advika was a good idea? There was so much about her that he loved and that made him happy.
"Advi.....I thought you were on a break from work right now." Naysha reprimanded Advika, who rejoined the table after speaking on a phone call.
"I swear I am, Vini just calls me sometimes because there's still some work to do. Confirmations for projects and stuff like that." Advika explains, picking the food on her plate.
"I'll ask her to talk to you only if it's something very urgent. You've overworked the heck out of yourself, don't do any work that isn't important at least for a month or two out of the six month break." Naysha said sternly, making Advika let out a whine.
"Naysh-"
"She's right Advika, you overwork yourself too much. You were probably the only person who wasn't a doctor but was still overworking during pandemic while everybody was relaxing in their homes during the lockdown. And let me add that you started working even after the lockdown, caught yourself up with album promotions and then started with your year and a half long tour. How many breaks did you take in the midst of all that?" Ria went on, bringing in all the instances.
"Fine, I'll accept surrender." Advika huffed dramatically "But please, if it's anything important I will have to take my team's or the record company member's call."
"I wanted to ask y'all something, so the ceremony this morning had a lot of turmeric involved in it. Why is it done?" Lando asked curiously.
"The ceremony is called ‘Haldi’, literally meaning turmeric. Most people say that it's done to make the bride and groom glow before the wedding, considering turmeric powder is good for the skin and people who are rather superstitious believe that it's done to remove the effect of "the evil eye" cast on couple by people, out of jealousy or stuff like that." Ria explained.
"Nice hoodie by the way." Lando comments, referring to the Lewis Hamilton hoodie Ria was wearing.
"Oh thanks, these two have the same ones too." Ria pointed out to Naysha and Advika who were seated next to her.
"So, the three of you are Lewis Hamilton fans?" Oscar asked them and the nodded their heads in agreement.
"Very huge, he's the first on the list of our favourite drivers." Naysha said as she tore the Naan and wrapped it around the Shahi Paneer.
"Any other interesting names?" Lando asked her with a expectant look on his face.
"Oooh yes" Naysha drawled on "Sebastian Vettel. He is literally the love of my life."
"That's nice." Lando commented, mild disappointment on his face which made Advika want to chuckle. There was no way Naysha would give into his attempts so easily.
"I'll never get over the fact that you're on a first name basis with Sebastian Vettel, it's kinda crazy." Advika commented, giving Naysha a surprised smile.
"That's only because him and Lewis are great friends. He's really humble though, even gets along with the team members on the paddock." Naysha said "I really miss him though, wish he never chose retirement last year."
"We all do." Charles sighed "It's weird, not having him around us during the races."
“I feel like eating an omelette.” Advika groaned in hunger “I just had it today morning though so I’m not sure if eating it again is a good idea.”
“Don’t be ridiculous. Nothing wrong in having the same food again on the same day.” Naysha stated.
“And not to mention you barely ate a good amount of food during tour, you need good nutrition for you thyroid levels.” Ria added.
“Alright, does anybody else want to get anything to eat?” Advika asked and everybody at the table nodded their heads to say they didn't want anything, no response from Charles who was thinking about a certain moment from the past.
Charles blinked his eyes and let out a groggy whine, not expecting to wake up to an empty bed in the morning.
He lazily pulled the sheets away and stepped out of the bed after hearing a sound coming from the kitchen of his suite. Walking towards the source of the sound, he found Advika cooking in the kitchen, the sight bringing a smile to his face.
"Good morning chérie." he said as he walked towards her, his voice raspy.
"Good morning, love. Wait- you weren't supposed to see this, I wanted to surprise you." Advika turned back and frowned, the expression on her face making him chuckle.
"You've been giving me a lot of surprises this week baby, I'm quite happy." he said, wrapping his arms around her waist and placing a peck on her temple.
"Well, this is the last surprise for now okay? I just felt like the race winner deserves breakfast in bed after a long race on a Sunday afternoon." she said, giving him a small smile.
"And a long Sunday night too." he said, placing kisses on her neck,  the sensation of his lips on her neck and the memories of her and Charles from their celebration the previous night bringing out  giggles Advika’s lips "My shirt looks good on you by the way."
"It's my new favourite outfit now." she grinned at him "Is an omelette alright? I thought of making pancakes but I couldn't find the mix for it anywhere." she said, folding the omelette she cooked into half and placing on the plate.
"Omelette sounds good but I think I want to eat something else right now." he groaned, turning her back towards the kitchen island.
"The food will get cold- " she said, getting breathless because of the feeling of his hands which were going down her body.
"It's alright, I don't mind having it cold." he said, placing his lips hungrily on her. She hooked her arms around his neck, pulling him closer and he wrapped his arms around her thighs, lifting her up to make her sit on the counter and pushing himself between her legs, their food long forgotten by then.
Charles sighed in reminiscence, fiddling the food on his plate using a fork with a frown on his face.
“Que s'est-il passé mon pote?” Pierre whispered in his ear, moving closer after noticing that his best friend was clearly going through distressed thoughts. (What happened mate?)
“Rien, je pense juste à quel point je suis stupide” Charles sighed in response. (Nothing, just thinking about how stupid I am.)
“Eh bien, je ne peux pas être en désaccord avec ça.” Pierre shrugged, receiving a light hearted glare from the Monegasque. “You need go in detail though because you have done a lot of stupid things in your life.” (Well, I can't disagree with that.)
“I don’t know if I should be upset or happy that you’re so brutally honest with me.” he chuckled “Et parler en français parce que parce que je ne veux pas que les autres comprennent.” (and speak in French because because I don't want the others to understand)
“Ah, donc c'est à propos du chanteur avec nous. Ouais tu as vraiment merdé.” Pierre commented, passing a tight smile. (Ah, so it's about the singer with us. Yeah you really fucked it up)
“Je veux revenir avec elle mais et si ça ne marche pas?” Charles reflected on the thoughts he’d been going through for the past few days. (I want to get back with her but what if it doesn't work out?)
“Et si ça marche? Tu lui manques aussi, nous pouvons tous le voir. Vous avez juste peur tous les deux.” the French driver said, patting Charles’ back. (And if it works out? She misses you too, we can all see it. The both of you are just scared.)
“Nous voulons tous les deux éviter un chagrin. Mais ma mère me conseille de réessayer et je ne peux pas être en désaccord car je l'aime beaucoup très vite. Elle ne ressemble à personne avec qui je suis sorti auparavant, je suis tombé amoureux d'elle.” Charles rambled, a distant look on his face. (The both of us want to avoid a heartbreak. But my mum is advising to me to give it another try and I can't disagree becasue I've grown so fond of her very soon. She's not like anybody that I've dated before, I fell hard for her.)
“Alors vous devriez lui demander si elle veut essayer, mon ami. C'est mieux que de regretter de n'avoir rien fait. God, I’ve never seen you so whipped for anyone before.” Pierre scoffed, sending an eye roll towards Charles. (Then you should ask her if she wants to try, my friend. It's better than regretting not having done anything.)
“Yo Frenchies, what are you both whispering about?” Lando asked, breaking their serious conversation.
“Nothing important and Jesus, don’t call us like that mate it sounds so weird.” Pierre gave Lando a pointed look.
“And I’m Monegasque by the way, not French.” Charles adding on, taking a sip of water from his glass.
“So.... that’s half French.” Oscar stated which resulting in Charles rolling his eyes and muttering a ‘oh, fuck off’.
A few hours later.
The drivers arrived for the Mehandi ceremony which was as a joint one by the bride's and groom's family. They spotted Advika in one of the chairs in the outdoor area, exchanged greetings and compliments and joined her, sitting in the chairs close by.
“Your mum isn’t coming?” Advika asked Charles, noticing that she was neither with them nor anywhere else in the surrounding celebration.
“The ceremony in the morning made her kinda tired so she’s taking rest in the room.” Charles told her and she nodded her head in understanding.
“Well, this ceremony is called the Mehandi and they make designs out of our Henna paste on the hands and sometimes even on the feet. But any other questions about this can only be answered by Ria and Naysha. I’m actually from the Southern part of India and weddings there take place differently. Weddings in my native place only have the engagement, wedding and a reception, that’s it.” Advika mentioned. She was dressed up in a blush pink chudidar with a floral print of the dupatta. Charles had come to the conclusion that she looked more beautiful in traditional Indian clothing than any other outifts.
“Wait, so from your place there’s none of the functions that we had today?” Pierre asked curiously with an eyebrow raised.
“Nope, wedding festivities different in different cultures and regions. Like in South India, the wedding happens in the morning while in the North, they usually have it at night.” she went on to explain "and both Naysha and Ria are from the Northern side of India, so they'll know it since they've obviously been to more North Indian weddings than I have."
“Where are the both of them though?” Oscar asked, noticing that the two best friends weren't anywhere in the space.
“Ria and I were trying to get Naysha join us in applying some Mehandi on her hand, but she ran away because she can’t stand the smell of the henna.” Advika let out a snort and then apologized, her cheeks turning red in embarrassment “So Ria has gone to convince her to at least sit by our side while the both of us get it done.”
“I mean, if you’re worried about her alone I could give her some company.” Lando tried suggesting rather sheepishly.
“You've already spend a lot of time together at the room, I think we deserve some time with our friend too.” Advika teased Lando.
"Advika!" she heard Ria call from the back and turned to see that she was standing with Naysha next to the people who would be applying the Mehendi, gesturing her to come there.
"I've got to join them to get the Mehendi done." Advika tells the drivers and they agree, joining the girls so that they could have some company.
"Okay so what is the purpose of this ceremony?" Pierre asked Naysha and Ria after they joined them. Naysha had opted for a simple yet gorgeous red kurti with cream coloured palazzo pants while Ria had a cute blush pink Punjabi suit on.
"As far as I know Mehendi, that is the Henna paste is applied to relieve the bride and groom of all the wedding stress and the bride usually gets her fiance's name hidden in the Mehandi art." Naysha said.
"Mostly it's just for games, they try to get theie partner to find the name after they're done with the Mehandi. A rather traditional reason is that the palm contains some lines that decides our future and writing the name of the partner signifies that their name is on our palms is that they're accepted as their life partner and hiding the name is a superstition that means protecting them from the evil eyes of people." Ria added and the drivers nodded their heads, after receiving the unique piece of information.
“Planning on getting somebody’s name on your hand?” Oscar asked Ria with an eager look as he took a seat next to her.
“Not yet, maybe some other day.” Ria said as she sent a playful grin towards Oscar, making everybody send questioning looks towards them.
"Aren't you going to get my name on your hand?" Lando teased Naysha playfully.
"Joke’s on you Lando, I don't even like Mehandi."
"Why are you so mean to me?" he huffed, looking at her.
"I wasn't like that until you started flirting non-stop with me." "Look, I just want to keep it professional."
"C'mon you know Lewis quite well, he won't mind if anything happens with us. Look at Ria and Oscar, they're literally in the same team and nobody has an issue with their behaviour with each other." Lando added and Naysha just nodded her head, sighing in defeat.
"How do you even stand the smell of this, gosh." Naysha commented at her best friends, scrunching her face in disgusted.
"I can’t relate to that. I love the smell, it’s amazing." Advika said with a pleased grin which made Charles’ mind race.
"Well, I have a rather neutral opinion, I don't mind it." Ria added her point of view.
“Gross.” Naysha mumbled, making Ria let out a laugh and Advika give a playful eye roll.
After Ria and Advika got their Mehandi done they stepped over and joined the drivers and Naysha, who were sitting next to the food stalls, munching on some snacks.
"Oh damn." Ria groaned and the others gave her a questioning look.
“Misal Pav.” Ria said, referring to her favourite snack which was being offered at the food stalls “Damn it, I can’t even have it with this Mehandi on."
"I mean, I could get it for you." Oscar offered and her face brightened.
"Are you okay with doing that?" Ria asked him hesitantly.
"It's not a problem for me, don't worry about it. I'll be back in a minute." the Australian said, heading towards the food stall.
He was back in a few minutes, a plate with Misal Pav in it and he sat next to Ria. Feeding her the snack as they seemed to talk about something and laugh.
"Well, something's definitely going on between them." Advika commented.
"Right? I told you." Naysha said, giving her a pointed look.
"I think they might be together." Charles added his opinion.
"I just know that they're together." Lando scoffed "I've noticed them cosying a lot in the garage. Everybody in the team thinks they're with each other, if not they at least like each other but haven't confessed it yet because whatever they do sure as hell doesn't look platonic."
"Advi don't get me wrong but the smell of the henna is kinda grossing me out so I'll go on a walk." Naysha said, her nose scrunched in disgust.
"No offense taken." Advika said, giving her friend a small smile. The opinions about the smell of Henna was different among Desi people just like the opinions on the smell of Petrol among people in the world.
"Would it be alright if I joined you?" Lando asked Naysha, still not giving up on his attempts to get together with her.
"Yeah, sure." Naysha said, giving him a soft smile which made his face brighten up. As they left the place Advika gave Lando a thumbs up in encouragement, which made Charles chuckle.
"Wait- where's Pierre?" Advika asked, a confused look on her face after realising that the French man was nowhere around them.
"He found some girl around here quite cute and said he wanted to talk to her, I have no idea where he disappeared to after that." Charles explained, shaking his head at the antics of his best friend.
"I'm not surprised." Advika giggled "I think I'll go back to my room now." she added abruptly.
"Are you alright?" Charles asked Advika, who had an uncomfortable look of her face.
"Yeah, totally." she mumbled, the uneasy look still on her face.
"The way you said 'totally' and the look on your face is telling otherwise." Charles gave her a pointed look. "You look uncomfortable."
"Uh, it's just- my feet hurt a lot right now, especially the ankle and heel region." she said, letting out a painful breath.
"You should've put on something more comfortable today, you're not very fond of heels right?" he said, remembering how she used to complain about her feet hurting because she had to perform in heels for a long time.
"Yeah but I couldn't help it, I thought I'd look better with that on, can't get it off because of the mehandi on my hands" she grumbled, shifting her feet in painful discomfort.
"You look gorgeous with any type of footwear or even bare foot. Wait, let me help you." he said and got up from the seat and kneeling on the ground so as to remove the straps of heels.
"Charles-" she let a heavy breath out, the gesture making her melt in the inside.
"Shh, it's not a big deal Vika. Don't overthink it yeah?" he reminded her with a soft look, slipping out the straps "Here you go, get your feet out now."
"Feeling better?" he asked her after getting up, a look of concern on his face.
"A lot, thanks Charles." she said, eyes shutting in relief as she sunk the bottoms of her feet against the soft surface of the carpet.

hey can I get some advice, if you have any? my friend is getting married and im invited, but I have no ideia what to wear. I'm afab, non binary, and pretty much closeted in all the ways that matter; I've been wearing men's clothes exclusively for a few years, but I only ever get read as female. I'm 26 and have avoided all family weddings so far in huge part because of formal wear, bc I would die if I had to wear a dress but I (so far) have not been brave enough to try wearing a suit, but this friend is the first of the friend group to get married and she actually wants me there (as opposed to getting invited by cousins and such just bc we're related) and I want to be there to support her. do you have any experience in choosing formal wear? in my place, what would you wear? is it better to go to a shop and risk them refusing to give me a mens suit or try to get something online and risk a bad fit? help!
there’s great suiting for dfab people that u can get either online or in store, depending on where u live. i don’t think you’ll get smth that fits horribly as long as you take ur measurements beforehand, plus most places have size consultants. wildfang has cool suits, they’re a little less formal (which can be great!) but easy to dress up/down & in the future wear as separates. kirrin finch is a little pricier but they make beautiful clothes for masc dfab ppl. both have a p decent size range. sharpe suiting & bindle and keep both do like GORGEOUS custom suits, but they’re expensive & u have to book in advance, so that might not be the vibe for this outing.
in store stuff, i actually rly like theory & all saints; theory is expensive but they have all kinds of different womens cuts, so u don’t actually need a mens suit, although like… no one will rly care if u go try one on? for me, either dfab specific menswear or just andro womenswear fits better, so i’ve stopped worrying abt that & just gone for fit. for less formal, cos & oak+fort have some cool co-ord options that could be fun, esp for a summer wedding. bigger department stores like nordstrom will also have a ton of options across price points
i also think an amazing option is to go to a thrift store, especially if you have a queer one in ur area (out of the closet!). they’ll have lots of options that aren’t too expensive, & will be able to help you find stuff.
& then finally, tailor it! tailoring isn’t that expensive at all (tailoring a suit will probably be under $50) & it’s so easy to make ur clothes fit the way u want them to!
also i will say — i actually hate full suits for myself, they’re way too masc for me & i just. never in my life do i rly wanna wear one lol. i like a good tuxedo pant & an expensive tee & a cashmere cardigan or smth, & i also have a few semiformal & formal kurtas to wear to stuff bc my wife is desi, so sometimes those make more sense & are fun n cute. if a full suit feels like too much, u can wear rly nice stuff that isn’t quite as masc or quite as formal, & it’s (arguably) even more in fashion rn
so just yknow whatever ur vibes are, there rly are so many options. have fun w it! clothes are supposed to be fun! definitely don’t let being scared of formalwear have u miss a wedding u wanna go to, i swear literally nothing is that deep lol

🦇 Tastes Like Shakkar Book Review 🦇
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
❝ "As a wedding planner, I have learned to appreciate blunt honesty. I mean, what's sexier than that? Being completely transparent and straight with another person takes a kind of fearlessness, doesn't it?" ❞
❓ #QOTD What's your favorite Shakespeare play (or retelling)? ❓ 🦇 Bobbi Kaur is eager to plan a blow-out, unforgettable wedding for her best friend. Unfortunately, she's paired with Benjamin “Bunty” Padda to complete the task; the groom's best friend and man who derailed her career as a wedding planner. After Bunty refuses to cater a previous wedding for her, Bobbi's boss and uncle loses his faith in her ability to one day manage the business. The Kareena Mann and Prem Verma (#Vermann) wedding could be her chance to prove herself and win an account with one of the biggest venues around. To make matters worse, someone is trying to sabotage the wedding. Despite their constant bickering and the shaadi saboteur's best efforts, can Bobbi and Bunty call a truce and (with the help of a few sleuthing, meddling aunties) turn the Vermann wedding into a happily ever after?
💜 How do I bottle up all my love for Nisha Sharma, Bobbi, and Bunty in a concise review? Oh, let me count the ways... (whoops, wrong play). "There's a skirmish of wit between them" is far more accurate. Tastes Like Shakkar picks up from the scene we missed in Dating Dr. Dil, when Bobbi and Bunty speak alone at Kareena's birthday party. A moment of misunderstanding flares into hostility, even though Bobbi and Bunty have more in common than they realize. Sharma does a stunning job of pulling from Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing while staying true to her Punjabi-American characters. So many books are categorized as romcom more for the situational comedy than actual laugh-aloud moments, which Sharma brings in spades. Bobbi and Bunty have all the wit and sass of their Shakespearian counterparts, but they bring the heat, too. This sweet, sassy story has a flare of spice that's bound to get your blood pumping. Whether Bunty is cooking up a storm in the kitchen or not, there are plenty of mouthwatering moments to spare.
💜 Bobbi's independence and ferocity are inspiring, while Bunty's foodie notes, text, and willingness to SHOW he's falling first are heartwarming. The layers of similarity between them—taking on familial obligations while trying to prove themselves—bring Bobbi and Bunty together when internal and external forces try to drag them apart. The aunties are, as always, a hoot, and Bobbi's curvy representation (and better yet, PRIDE) warmed my heart.
🦇 As much as I loved the story's mystery element, I pegged the shaadi saboteur the moment Bobbi chooses her first suspect. Sharma leaves plenty of little breadcrumbs for readers to follow. Though there's a TON of sizzle and spice (I'm fanning myself at the thought of that throne scene), I do think it was rushed, almost entirely resolving the animosity between them with smut.
🦇 Recommended for fans of Shakespeare retellings, @sonali.dev / Sonali Dev's The Rajes series, or @saradesaiwrites / Sara Desai's The Marriage Game series! Any rom-com lover is bound to fall in love with Bobbi and Bunty!
✨ The Vibes ✨ 💞 Enemies to Lovers 🤏🏽 Forced Proximity 📜 Shakespeare Inspired 🔍 A Dash of Mystery 🪷 Desi/Punjabi RomCom 💐 Chef x Wedding Planner 👗 Plus-Sized Female Lead 📚 Second in a Series 💜 Contemporary Romance 😂 Banter & Humor
❝ "My body says 'let's go on an expedition!' while my brain is shouting 'evacuate mission!'" ❞
🦇 Major thanks to the author Nisha Sharma and publisher Avon Books/ Harper Voyager US for providing an ARC of this book via Netgalley. 🥰 This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

I haven't done any posts about general episode thoughts in a long time but I figure I ought to bring it back for Kamala's MCU debut, what with my icon being her right now and also what with her being my favorite Marvel character and my introduction to the comics.
I really think they captured Kamala's character well here and Iman Vellani is a delight playing her! It is interesting that they changed Kamala from being a fanfic writer to being a YouTuber discussing the Avengers, but it makes sense. I'll miss the fanfic angle but since fanfic of the Avengers in-universe is basically RPF, that probably gets into weird territory.
Now I'm not of Pakistani descent but I am Indian-American, and I'm Muslim, so I think I can speak to the accuracy of the cultural stuff. Honestly, I think it was dead on. The Bollywood music was a really nice touch, and I loved the scattered Urdu phrases throughout. And the aunty gossip is too real. I remember when a family friend was getting engaged to a white girl, the gossip was raging! (They all still came to the wedding though.) Also the Halal Guys shout out had me laughing, especially since I was considering getting lunch from there earlier today!
The family dynamic is very compelling and there was a lot that rang true for me. Honestly my parents would have reacted the exact same way if I'd asked to attend any cons. It was a bit amusing that the dialogue there seemed to be lifted from the comics since in the comics Kamala was actually asking to go to a party but it still worked because desi parents do overexaggerate things! That being said, I am kind of wary of how they've firmly slotted Muneeba as the "strict" parent and Yusuf as the "nice" parent when they were both equally strict in the comics. I don't know that I like that change. Anyway I'm also liking her sibling dynamic with Aamir and I'm looking forward to when we see his fiancee since she was really cool in the comics.
Kamala's and Bruno's dynamic is really fun. I did catch those ship teasing, which is... fine, they did that in the comics too. Anyway, they bounce off each other well! I enjoyed what little we saw of Nakia too and I hope we see more of her.
As expected, since I'm ornery like that, I still don't like the changes to her powers. I do appreciate the comic references though, like when she rescued Zoe in a similar way. And the end credits sequence with the art from the comics was VERY cool!
I am cautiously optimistic about the rest of this series!

I promise I'm not trying to pressurise or force you into updating or anything but can you atleast just tell me if Lily is going to feel close to normal in Raising a kid with my Ex in the upcoming chapter? It's been 3 months and whenever I read the 2nd chapter it's hurts me to see them both in so much pain!😭
How about I'll do you one better? A snippet for Raising A Kid With My Ex and an update on Wednesday 26 April 2023 (a little under two weeks away)?
I can't guarantee that everyone will be well and happy at the end of Chapter 3, but progress will be made. I think it would be unrealistic of me to wave a magic wand for this chapter and have everything go back to normal.
Snippet below the cut! Someone is over the moon, at least!
“You’ll come, right?” Ishani beamed at her, diamond sparkling. “My sister will be my Maid of Honour,” she pulled a bit of a face here, “I can’t exactly avoid it, I'm afraid, but you’ll definitely be one of the bridesmaids and you’ll look positively stunning for it! It’ll be a Desi wedding, of course, so you’ll be wearing a lehenga –” She leaned forward as she rambled on, her smile turning just a little cheeky. “I’ll have you know that James is a huge fan of those.” Ishani clearly meant well, but Lily’s stomach dropped at that revelation just a little. She was more than confident in James’ love for her, but recently she had found herself wondering – being so far away from him so often, living with his parents, having taken Harry out of their apartment due to her being postpartum – if James might sometimes regret ending his relationship with Ishani. After all, things were not exactly sunshine and daisies where his relationship with her was concerned. Ishani must have noticed that her mood had shifted somewhat. Her next words, however, indicated that she attributed it to something other than the reminder of the fact that the yoga instructor and her boyfriend had once been romantically involved, that they had been on the verge of marriage if it had been up to her. A commitment that Ishani – the blushing bride-to-be – was now embarking on with her current lover. “Don’t you worry,” her bubbly friend spoke, grabbing her hand and squeezing it. “I’ll only be walking down the aisle in April. I’m sure you’ll feel much better around that time and won’t it be something to look forward to? Monty and Mia are invited as well, of course, and darling Harry must be there too!” A gasp escaped her. “It might actually inspire James to get down on one knee as well!” “Oh,” she flushed heavily, pushed a lock of hair behind her ear, “I don’t think that –” “Please,” Ishani waved her concerns away, “it’s a miracle he hasn’t asked yet. I think he’s waiting for the perfect moment –” Which surely isn’t now, Lily thought, biting on the inside of her cheek before exhaling shakily, righting her shoulders as she put on a brave face. “Of course I’ll be at the wedding,” her Indian friend’s cheeks widened in a dazzling smile. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
