tagged by @virgo-dream and @seiya-starsniper, thank you! this took me a while... the way my hyperfixations work is, i'll completely devote myself to a piece of media for a time... then once i find something else i move on almost entirely lol. i of course still have a very soft spot for the shows/video games listed here (as well as my blorbos, such as they are) but the only fandom im currently active in is, of course, Sandman.

1: Levi Ackerman - Attack on Titan

I am in a love/hate relationship with AoT lmao (and some day i WILL finish the final season) but nothing, not even fandom war, will ever change my love for Levi. I'm obsessed with his backstory, how he came into the Survey Corps, and how it all sheds light on the decisions he makes and the tragedies he suffered through. I was fascinated by him since S1 and after the No Regrets manga came out, I was done for. He has been through so much and despite how cruel and unforgiving he seems, he actually has the biggest heart and-- guh I just love him. He deserves the world ;^;

2: Zuko - Avatar the Last Airbender

Truly was torn between Zuko or Katara... but I have always had mad respect for Zuko's redemption arc and how brilliantly it was written. I love how it takes a full season and a half for him to have this war within himself, that he makes the right decision but then regresses... before literally becoming sick with indecision and change. And then he finally proves his worth and becomes the most loyal friend and a perfect leader to rebuild a broken society. I'm a sucker for good character stories, and Zuko's arc in ATLA is my hands down favorite ever.

3: Roxas - Kingdom Hearts

God I just love tragic male characters, huh? lmao. This one is a no brainer to me. Roxas is the OG blorbo. I fell in love with him at the tender age of 17 and have never looked back. He is kind and loyal but also a feral gremlin. He is so goofy but sad and god dammit, I love his voice and his baby blue eyes. Also this line, "This could have been the other way around." *shakes fist* MY BOY!

4: Faye Valentine - Cowboy Bebop

We love complex characters in this house! Faye has all the traits of a character I usually wouldn't vibe with: she's arrogant (without much to back it up lol), lazy, and is susceptible to addictions. But oooh do I love a character who uses negative traits to hide how emotionally vulnerable they are. Faye appears strong, mean, and confident to a fault, but inside she craves companionship and is incredibly lonely (despite her lone wolf tendencies). Rewatching the show as an adult, I found Faye and I have a lot in common lol. She needs a hug.

5: Hob Gadling - The Sandman

Do I really need to say anything? lol I love that Hob is the fandom's plaything; molding and shaping him and writing him in all sorts of different ways... but I do adore his canon character. He is brash, stubborn, at times cruel and violent... but then immeasurably kind, loyal, and forgiving. He takes on immortality in unexpected ways. he thrives, he suffers, he works, he regresses, he makes mistakes, he learns from them, he changes... he is THE human experience.

6: Daenerys Targaryen - Game of Thrones

Robbed. Robbed. Absolutely robbed. The writers did Daenerys so dirty, I refuse to accept the final 3 seasons of GOT as canon lmao. (and here's another thing: I would totally accept her spiral into "madness" if it had been handled seriously. If the writers didn't just pull this out of their ass and instead thoughtfully worked in justifiable reasoning for her to go crazy). I'm 100% a stan and there's actually nothing you can say that will change my mind :)

7: Cal Kestis - Star Wars, Jedi: Fallen Order

8: Tifa Lockhart - Final Fantasy VII

Another OG blorbo lmao. She's been with me since I was a teenager (also I always shipped her with Cloud, not Aerith. I do however ship Aerith and Zack... the latter whom almost made this list. Anyway-). Tifa is the badass motherfucker with a heart of gold. She is insanely loyal and truly the wisest of the bunch.

9: Mickey Milkovich - Shameless

ANOTHER BROKEN CHARACTER WHO GOES THROUGH EXTREME DEVELOPMENT? Can anyone sense a pattern?? This motherfuckerrrr *shakes Mikey and slaps him in the face and sobs* God I love it when a seemingly irredeemable character goes THROUGH IT and comes out shining a new, yet somehow the same old, sarcastic bitch.

(Also please note that Lip Gallagher almost made this list. Another shining example of the writers doing his character the WORST injustice just to keep him on the show. He should have stayed in college. He almost GOT OUT. He almost broke the chain. What he did was not in line with his character and I will stay mad about it).

10: Cesare Borgia - The Borgias

THIS. GUY! AURGH!! Arrogant, violent, sexy bastard. You piece of shit. Cesare actually did everything wrong, he doesn't want to be redeemed. But he is so fucking charismatic and I love that he uses it to his advantage. He's so fucking smart and quick on his feet. He's SUCH an asset on the battlefield. And he LOVES his family! He will kill a bitch with his bare hands if they dare insult his mother or sister. I love that he grumbles when given advice from literally anyone that isn't his most trusted friend, bodyguard, and assassin, Micheletto. Doesn't even flinch when he discovers Micheletto is gay, actually teases him for being a momma's boy, and genuinely grieves for his loss when he flees. He says out loud how he misses him and actually begins to doubt himself without Micheletto there to counsel him. Cesare is everything to me, actually.

Q - A fandom you’ve abandoned and why. oh jeez there are many?? like 90% of the fandoms i've left have just been out of fading interest, like natural process or whatever. actually i had a brief time in the genshin fandom which i left less out of lack of interest and more out of Wow that fandom was generally unpleasant

The original blorbo, my first love (the one you never forget), my first wet and sad man, the one hero who had mental illness before it was cool (jk, however It was the first I got to know), for him I downloaded the anime OVA in a process that took 3 days and 5 hrs per day on my local internet shop and i bought the original Advent Children movie and the extended. He defined my taste in fictional men.

Uriko/ Bloody Roar 2

My first crush, she made me a furry before I even knew what a furry was, she awoke in me my taste for fighting women and catgirls. Silly little weapon of mass destruction, best girl, best playable character in Bloody Roar (yes, Im biased, no I don't look to be corrected)

Raine Sage/Tales of Symphonia

I wanted to be her when i grew up, now older I come to undestand that maybe I wanted to fu--*gets kicked*

Roxas/ Kingdom Hearts

Righ in my teenager era, thought it was Cloud so I looked, stayed because of the tragic existencialism, best angry boy, he has never done anything wrong on his life, kicked Riku's ass like a pro, fave resident in Sora's Heart hotel. A little gremling out for blood.

Maka Albarn/ Soul Eater

My irrevocable call that I was, in fact, not straight. The most cool female character I had ever seen, fuck the perfect stereotype (even thou she was the academic sterotype of perfect student) she was a messy bitch with angry issues and it was so fucking healing to see her being that way. Made me realice you can have a boyfriend and a nonbinary partner at the same time.

Aqua/ Kingdom Hearts

My wife, she carries the whole BBS game on her back, not because something arbitrary like most powerful keyblade wilder (which she is) nor because she is the only one who becomes master of her group (wich she does) but because she, literally, pass the whole game,pulling together the shit her idiotic himbo crush and her best friend do during all the game. Her movements while fighting are top 1000 of sexy things

Riku/ Kingdom Hearts

He is the representation of the queer journey made game character, the ironic fact that he is the closest to the mascot of all that represents capitalism is incredible good for social study. Seeing him growing on the story resonated with my growing into a lgbta+ person and now we are both happy with who we are.

Dante/ Devil May Cry

I literally buyed the whole tri-pack of the DMC saga back in 2013 when I didn't even had a PS2, just to play it in a console a friend let me borrow. All the bro dudes buying his bad boy persona when he is a fucking depressed man that only knows happiness when he has his brother back, looked for the sexyness and irreverent style, stayed for the tragic sibling drama.

Dream/ The Sandman

The blorbo that pretty much brough me back to Tumblr. Goth, sad, twink, depressed, divorced dad of one poor soul with the most toxic family ever. Neil Gaiman saw that one comic about giving robot feelings and decided to do the same with concepts. No Neil, you didn’t give it feelings, you fucked up a concept.

Loki/ Marvel MCU

Sad wet snake, with queer tendencys ignored by most of marvel who is made justice on fanart/fanfic. My favourite "redemption" trope. Mama's boy. HE USES MAGIC, CAN SHAPESHIFT AND FIGHTS WITH KNIVES. May hate the world but loves his brother, that gets me every time. I just want them to be happy

A Fandom Fridge Horror Story, or; Entering a Fandom Late

Me, late summer 2021, just after the first convention of Hot Vax Summer: Oh man, I missed cosplay so much! Huh, you know, my friends keep telling me I would really like this strategy game they're all into and are planning a group cosplay from now that conventions are happening again. I don't really like strategy games but they tell me these are quality blorbos, and I don't want to be left out of the group cosplay, since I regretted that last time I was late to the party on a game they told me I would really like. I guess I'll try out this game so I can see what the fuss is about.

Huh, actually this game is really fun! I love all these characters! I will now put 400 hours of my life into this game. New special interest unlocked!

Me, early summer 2022, having debuted my cosplay at a physical convention: That was really fun! Wow, everybody I talked to about this game at the convention was really nice and enthusiastic! I heard the fandom was a cesspool but I guess that was blown out of proportion. And look, there's a spinoff coming out like next week with gameplay I enjoy more than turn-based strategy!

Late summer 2022: Wow, that spinoff was so much fun, even more fun than the base game! But my friends don't really like musou so I'm the only one who's played the whole game, and also nobody else has played all the routes in the base game either, so I don't have anybody to talk to about my impressions on routes my friends haven't played. Since everybody at the convention was nice, maybe I could just reblog some things online and it would be fine.

Mid 2023: Well, I've been lurking awhile now, and it really does seem like this fandom is not that bad? I've definitely seen way worse. Maybe I actually could post my little thoughts about the themes and motifs and it would be fine? Maybe...about my favorite ship that seems like it's not very popular, even though there's so much canon material about it? Oh, maybe about how the blue guy and red lady have similar backgrounds and compelling connections but opposing worldviews that are fundamentally incompatible in a way that is both tragic and narratively interesting! Weird I haven't really seen too many posts about that, you would think it would be the main thing people would talk about, since it seems like the core thematic conflict, but I guess I am coming into the fandom pretty late.

Summer 2023: Huh, yeah people are being really nice! Sure I got one "Debate Me!" sealioning jerk on one of my least controversial posts who seemed disproportionately angry that the post obliquely implied that their favorite fake guy, who was not even actually mentioned in the post, might have one (1) entire character flaw, but that seems like an isolated incident. Wish this fandom was a little more active, but hey that's what happens after a few years, and I'm in the Niche Kingdom Hearts Mobile Game fandom so I'm used to a small group of dedicated fans just having fun amongst themselves. Too bad I missed the height of the fandom though, there was such good merch and I bet that was a lot of fun.

WELL, gently taps the current pinned post of this blog, that one's a freebie ^__^

Anyway. BOY ranking them all is really hard bc so many characters in the series have permanently set up camp in my head by now and arent particularly inclined to leave any time soon, but if I had to list off just a couple examples that have caused me the most brain damage so far, itd be:

- Terra, hands down my number 1 most specialest guy in the whole world. Instantly became enamored with him from the moment I first set eyes on him and then proceeded to have all of my ribs carefully and meticulously pulled out of my chest one by one throughout the entirety of bbs and the entire rest of the series after that. Its so dire man I literally cannot look at any images of him now without physically having to hold myself back from making a long strangled whine Out Loud With My Mouth every time

- the entire Wayfinder Trio as a collective unit + Vanitas also tbh. Terra's obviously my Primary Favorite but the wayfinders as a whole also make my heart hurt so fucking bad man. My partner and I choose to interpret them all as siblings bc it leads to some exceptionally delicious and painful rs dynamics to explore imo and something abt it just makes The Miseries hit that much harder in ways that have literally had me writhing on the couch with a thousand yard stare rapidly cycling through the five stages of grief on loop. I'm also counting Vanitas as part of the unit bc he's just so closely tied to Ven in my brain that separating them (lol.) feels Wrong (lmao.), and. God. Vanitas might just be one of THE most tragic characters in literally any media I've experienced and I say this without a single hint of irony. The current total wordcount of the rps that I've written abt the wayfinders with my partner so far has probably shot past 50k by now. Why am I hurds

- Kairi. I was originally mostly ambivalent/neutrally intrigued abt her but kept getting increasingly more pissed abt her treatment and constant sidelining by the writing to the point where I got to kh3/mom and something in me snapped entirely, and from that moment onwards I decided to love her entirely out of spite. She instantly shot up to become one of my favorites after that and if I think abt her meta and story potential for longer than five minutes at a time I start frothing at the mouth

- Sora, naturally. I have so so so so many thoughts on this little darling boy that could easily double the wordcount of this ask just by themselves but the most important thing to mention here in lieu of that, for now, is that he's is the One (1) and ONLY child ive ever seen, whether real or fictional, that has made me experience emotions anywhere Close to resembling baby fever. I want to dribble him like a basketball but also gently pinch his cheek affectionately and also spoil him silly like a grandma seeing her beloved grandson again for the first time in months

- Xigbar. This fucko is the one I'm the most mad about ending up liking as much as I do, not because hes a bad character, absolutely far from it I fucking ADORE this terrible bodyhopping little cunt, but because it happened by complete accident after I realized he shares a lot of (surface) similarities with my favorite blorbo from another entirely unrelated franchise and I then got mad about realizing I have a very easily clockable Type (which I've affectionately dubbed the Guys That Suck category. I have more too obv but its the funniest one I have). He's also infuriatingly fun to write. Get me OUT of here

- Xemnas, Terranort and Ansem SoD. Everyone in the Nort Collective counts tbh but those three are the ones I lose sleep over the most, particularly the first two; Xemnas bc he makes me feel an unfathomably deep and haunting sense of grief (brought on by me finishing bbs and then realizing days later the exact way his creation connects to Terra's story and hearing the sound of fucking glass shattering at the back of my head instantly), and Terranort bc I'm fucking terrified of him and he also makes me want to eat gravel whenever I think abt him in context with him interacting with the rest of the wayfinders. He's also really fun to write and this fact Upsets Me. Ansem's listed bc you can never go wrong with the ol reliable mad scientist. The rest of the norts I would probably also be a lot more insane over once I actually get off my damn ass and start picking through the mobile games but that's an endeavor for Future Salty (i am very excited and terrified)

- the Lingering Will. I'm counting it as a separate entity from Terra and the rest of the Terra Collective on a technicality bc (LOUD TELEVISION STATIC AS I GESTURE FRANTICALLY AND FURIOUSLY @ THE JUMBLED BALL OF YARN LABELED "my thoughts on the physical and psychological effects of being a guy who got his soul and entire being shattered into like five million distinct pieces for over 10 Whole Entire Years" THAT I HAVE NOT EXPLAINED THE ENTIRETY OF TO A SINGLE OTHER SOUL ON EARTH) but. Eah. This fucking haunted hunk of metal has been eating holes through my brain tissue ever since I first saw the kh2 secret superboss and I'm distraught over it every single day of my life. This thing is like a weird bug to me. Do you understand. (tearign up) Do you get me. Do I have to pull out the Lingering Will/The Hollow Knight venn diagram

And as for the other fuckos haunting my cranium on the daily I can only mention a couple other honorary picks that honestly could also very well have made it to the main list if not for the fact that this post is already long enough as it is, and these following characters are therefore mostly delegated to Sleeper Agent Blorbos who I don't think about QUITE as often as the ones listed above but whenever I Do I get just as distraught and ailed over them. Anyway, shoutout to the entire Seasalt Trio, Demyx, Riku, Repliku, Naminé and Saïx and probably many others I'm forgetting rn bc it is currently 2 am and I'm running on approximately 5-6 hours of sleep and a prayer 👍 god bless and amen

Jacks in a fate from the caravan book series, and he’s both terrible and amazing. he’s the smoothest mother fucker out there, i swear. it’s said that he’s searching for his one true love, and if he kisses you, your heart stops like within a week or something if you’re NOT his true love. if you are, you survive. and he so…. he’s terrible, don’t get me wrong, i’d hate him if i met him irl. he’s got the foulest mouth, and despite being deceitful and almost killing the person we follow in this book where we meet him, he also tries to help her. he holds her when she cries and he just… he’s horrible. he’s perfect. i love him. i don’t know what else to say, he’s just my perfect disaster <3

i was going to talk about kaizer. he’s the obvious choice. stoic, strong, skilled, alpha, awkward as fuck, tragic past and all that. BUT you know a lot about him already, so i decided to go for reed instead. reed is an elf. he’s a redhead, he’s got freckles, he’s tall and lanky, yet strong af. we meet him in book two. before the book. his past. he looses the love of his life to sickness, and believing that she’d been asking the king for help with her sickness and being refused, he seeks vengeance. he kills the king with a scythe and is shunned to live with the heathens. which is where he is when kaizer arrives at the elf kingdom. he’s funny, he’s soft, and slightly unhinged at times. he may or may not have do fucky fuck with kaizer. because they both like each other but also both know that they could never take the place of the others lost love. HOWEVER!!! reed may or may not fall for kaizers sister ava. which is awkward. because…. yeah.. and they deserve to be happy, when he finally learns to really love again after his lost love. and he just deserves the best in the world, he’s my dark puppy redhead i cannot even begin to tell you how much i’m looking forward to writing him!!!!!

okay i tried to be a LITTLE short on them, so it wouldn’t just be an entire essay for each of them….. also i wrote half of this while still at work, whoops 🙈 kudos to my superior for being out of the office most of the afternoon!

For current blorbo, it has to be Joxer from Xena: Warrior Princess

Started a rewatch of Xena recently when I was sick with covid and I couldn't resist that baby face. They treat him like such a loser and I just want to save him 😭.

All time favorite blorbo is a toughie. If I can use a videogame, I might go with Roxas from Kingdom Hearts (though it would probably be a three-way tie with the whole sea salt trio)

It took years for my tragic nobody babies to finally get their happy ending and I will never be over it.

But like I said, that one is hard because I love all of my blorbos equally lol

Sorry if this isn't super well-formatted, I'm doing this on mobile. ^^;; Also I'm adding gifs for visual reference so this is gonna get long, sorry!

-blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)

I know this is cheating but I'm putting both Roxas and Xion here. Their stories are so intricately tied that it would feel wrong to separate them. You could put either of their themes on and there's a 50/50 chance I'll either start bawling my eyes out or going off about how tragic their characters are and how they both need a hug and/or therapy. They Are Best Friends. Their story genuinely affected me so much that it still influences my thoughts and choices about my own characters to this day.

(Axel gets an honorable mention, because he is also very tied to their stories and I do like him a lot! But when I originally played through 358/2 Days, the game these three starred in, I was about Roxas and Xion's age and had a much easier time relating to and attaching myself to them than to Axel.)

-scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)

Naminé, without hesitation. I'm gonna throw hands with DiZ/Ansem the Wise for how he treated her, she deserves the world. (And also a new outfit, c'mon Square everyone else got a cool update to their look she deserves one too even if she's perfect the way she is.)

Okay okay SO I gotta give this to Riku Replica (Repliku for short). He has a surprising amount of similar themes to Roxas/Xion when it comes to struggles with his identity and becoming his own person, and he deserves So Much for what he had to go through from the very start of his existence. I'm not... super happy with how Square finished off his story line, but from a narrative point it's fitting enough.

Zexion/Ienzo. That is my SON. He deserves a better father figure than Ansem the Wise. 10/10 would love to ruffle his hair and take him to get ice cream.

This was hard to figure out, but Ansem, Seeker of Darkness (yes, he is different from Ansem the Wise, don't @ me) is probably the closest I can get to this? I find the ending of his story line interesting, how he's finally able to admit that he was wrong in his belief in the Darkness and acknowledges the strength and growth that Riku has made since their initial meeting. Compared to the other Xehanort variants, it's nice to see one of them genuinely humbled.

EDIT AS I'M FINISHING UP: I'm adding another character to this, because I already did that at the beginning of this post so no one should be surprised I'm doing it again. I'm gonna make my second choice for this Vanitas. He's a cocky jerk and beat me up Several Times with his boss fight in Birth By Sleep, but if you get down to it his story is incredibly sad? He's a fractured heart desperate to become whole again, and forced to live half a life under the hand of Xehanort while his other half gets to make friends and actually live fully. He knows intimately that the only reason he exists is to be a weapon, and even though he acts as if he's fine with this I think, deep down, he's only so desperate to form the χ-blade because it's the only way he'll know for sure he's whole again. (I haven't read the novels, so I only know the surface amount of his character from BBS and the glimpses I've seen of him in KH3, so I could be wrong! But for now, I'm happy with my interpretation.)

DiZ/Ansem the Wise. I've already complained about him twice, he needs to get bonked on the head for how he treats everyone else. (Yes, I know he gets better with this. No, I do not care <3)

-eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)

Xigbar/Braig/Luxu, My Beloathed. I would happily toss him off a cliff but unfortunately I know my best attempts would never be able to rid me of him. His smug face is so punchable it makes him look stupid.

EDIT: apparently I missed one the first time around NOW this is all of them! Sorry the length/tone of answers varied so much, but I hope it's entertaining regardless!
