petunias with dan heng prompt: realizing feelings side note: oh mu god i think i brainrotted and then forgot my train of thought. this isn't exactly the prompt but he does realize it i swear. i might write a follow up afterwards because i hate the way i ended this. event masterlist 𝜗𝜚 hsr masterlist

nervous was a feeling that dan heng never allowed himself to feel, he only let it fleetingly pass by like the winter breeze. but he doesn’t understand how he began to feel anxious around you, just simply on edge just by being near you. he could just sweat pure bullets from the amount of sweat he could feel, making his palms sweaty. 

when the both of you went on an assignment for collecting extinguished cores, he nearly left mid-fight, not that he’d leave you in the middle of a fight, but your hand briefly touched his and he died within that moment. after that, he zoned out the entire mission, just focusing on the touch between his thumb and your index finger. his and yours, and his and yours- 

frankly, he doesn’t understand this feeling. if he asked someone on the express, surely, they would know why he’s acting this way. but he doesn’t want to seem like a bother to them. maybe he’d resort to them after a good dive into the archives. 

there was a gentle knock against his door but he didn’t hear it, head too deep in various books that were wide open. stacks of books and stacks of books littered the archives’ floors, it was like a maze to even just travel to dan heng. there were books like feelings and how to understand them and are you anxious? there are reasons why in the shelves. although, he was confused how they got there, maybe when march got them to read for fun, he was thankful. 

did he get the answers he needed? no. but they were helpful regardless yet he was in a dead end. well, it’s time to ask the express, maybe they’d know and surely, they would tell him. but when he tried to seek out answers from himeko and welt, they exchanged a look and laughed with each other. 

welt cleared his throat. “okay, himeko, let’s not laugh too much, maybe he knows why.” 

himeko wiped a tear from her face from laughing too much, catching her breath, “welt, c’mon, just look at him. he doesn’t know anything!” 

“dan heng isn’t clueless.” they were talking about him as if he didn’t even exist. until both of them looked at dan heng as if there was something he was supposed to know.  “is there something im missing?” dan heng asked, confused. 

“no…” 

“okay?”

back to the drawing board, he walked into his room, seeing march and stelle sitting in there. march raised a brow, “dan heng, your room’s a mess, even messier than stelle’s!” it was true, despite the silver haired girl protesting against the so-called “allegations” march is painting on her, his room was messy. there was post it notes on the walls, books on the floor, mattress and even the fan? was he really that deep into researching this feeling, if it is even real? 

“i was curious about something, that’s all.” 

“about what?” 

“name, something about name. they’re confusing me.” 

stelle quipped back, “what? that you like them?” the girl in pink gasped, march slapped stelle’s shoulder, “stelle!” she continued in a whisper-yell, “you weren’t supposed to tell him, he was supposed to figure this out himself.”  

dan heng tilted his head, deep in thought, ignoring the commotion the couple was making in front of him. 

what? no, no, he doesn’t like name like that. 

“look what you did, stelle! you broke him.”  march said, tapping on dan heng’s shoulder as if he was a buzzer in a game show. 

sure, sometimes, dan heng imagines a world where the two of you are together. tranquil hours spent in the park, just looking at each other. or cooking with each other, have a cat or a dog and rest together until the end of time or he’d pray to an aeon for eternity to exist forever just to see you as you both grow old.

but that’s because this is how friends act, right? 

Do the boys do anything for Easter? I feel like Eddie would hide eggs with treats in it for Ozzy to hide.

Eddie had only been living with Wayne for a few months when their neighbor across the way came knocking on their door. She was a single mother with two unruly children and always tried to flirt with Wayne when he was leaving for work.

The way Wayne tells it, she’s organizing an Easter egg hunt for the kids in the trailer park. Ain’t no reason why they shouldn’t get to have the same experiences as better off kids just ‘cause the price of eggs went up a bit. If the Munsons can afford it, she’d appreciate if they donated.

Wayne’s seen Eddie’s notebooks – there are more drawings in them than school work – and thought he might get a kick out of decorating eggs. He even went out and bought a dye kit.  Eddie was a little too old for something like that, but he could see an olive branch when it was being extended.

Him and Wayne hadn’t yet found their footing with each other, but Wayne was making an effort. No one has ever done that before, so Eddie accepted with one exception, “You gotta paint them with me.”

They boil eggs on the stove and argue about how long you’re supposed to keep them on for. It turns out that Wayne is just as meticulous with his artwork as Eddie is because they spent hours painting and dip-dying eggs. Wayne even broke out an old paint set he had so they could use actual paintbrushes.

Eddie painted a dragon on one egg and an orc on another one. Wayne painted Tweety Bird on one egg and Garfield on another. They were a big hit at the egg hunt (even though Wayne insisted that Eddie participate and he wiped the floor with the other kids).

The extent of Easter in the Harrington house was: Get dressed, go to church, don’t embarrass anybody. That was it. They didn’t do a big dinner. There was no Easter Bunny visit. They never stayed long enough after church services to participate in the church’s easter egg hunt. When he got older, he’d go to Tommy’s, but they then they were too old for the fun Easter traditions.

When Steve taught second grade, he would buy candy and make Easter baskets for his students. He would organize an Easter egg hunt with the other second grade teachers with – much to Eddie’s supreme disappointment – plastic eggs. He was more disappointed to learn that middle schoolers don’t have parties.

So the first Easter after Steve got Ozzy, Eddie was celebrating Easter the right way.

The whole holiday is still kind of lost on Steve, but he’s entertained Eddie enough to just go along with it when he’s this excited about something.

The first year, they learn very quickly that you should not let your dog eat a lot of boiled eggs (also Eddie forgot when he put all of them and Steve nearly killed him). Every year after, Eddie has gotten more and more elaborate and Ozzy gets more and more excited. Steve has woken up to this dog prancing in place with excitement, waiting for them to get up to see what the ‘Easter Bunny’ left him.

A couple years ago, they started putting treats and snacks in plastic eggs and hiding them around the house for Ozzy to find. And then when they got Joan, they started including catnip and toy mice in some of the eggs.

Steve and Eddie continue their tradition of buying each other the most fucked up chocolate bunnies they can find.

The primarchs on a bus

So, the primarchs take a roadtrip, in a doppeldecker-travelbus because I say so:

Lion: He drives the damn thing. Doesn‘t talk to anyone, just stubbornly looking at the road. Very good driver. Either listening to a very disturbing true-crime-podcast or caliban-lovesongs Fulgrim: He and Fulgrim secured the last row on top for themself, so they have a lot of space. Laying down and using Ferrus as a pillow. Occasionally is struck by creative inspiration when looking out the window. Has all his painting supplies with him. Perturabo: pretends to be grumpy but is very excited. He sits at the bottom so he has a proper table to draw on and right next to Magnus. Drinking lot‘s of coffee Jagh: The whole polycule/lovetriangle-thing around Magnus sits at the bottom around one of the tables, so he is there too. Kind of sad that he can‘t take his bike but hanging out with his brothers is fun too. Tries to do some throatsinging to impress Magnus but get‘s glared at by Lion. Leman: Sits opposite of Magnus and tries to do his best to not start a fight. Rob has taken away his Mjod and stops him from taking more from the minibar. His wolves are under the table and he pets them the whole time. Started a fight with Jagh about who get‘s to sit at the window. They switch every few minutes now. Rogal: He sits in the trunk/luggage storage to give emotional support to Konrad. Has built a pillowfort, it‘s very comfy. Appears a few times to sternly talk to people who aren‘t using their seatbelts. Konrad: He‘s a very happy bat right now. He sits in the luggage area, it‘s dark and comfy, Rogal has snacks for days there and gives lot‘s of hugs and headpats. Was very sceptical about going at all, he had some visions. Sang: With his wings it‘s quite klaustrophobic. Also on the bottom floor so he can be next to Lion and Rob. Might be stresseating. Very glad Lemans wolves are there for emotional support. Ends up falling asleep, a lot of cute pictures were made. Ferrus: Currently beeing used as a pillow by Fulgrim. Is prepared and has some books and snacks with him. The two regularly get yelled at to stop making out. Angron: He is watching a movie with a lot of gore and cuddeling with Lorgar. Falls asleep eventually. Everyone is surprised at how calm he is. Turns out he is like some toddlers/babies and sitting in a car/bus calms him down very fast. This knowledge will be used in the future. Roboute: Lion has entrusted him with the minibar. He is vigilantly guarding it, making sure no one get‘s drunk. Drinks a lot of coffee and tries to get some work done. This is made harder by everyone (but especially Sang) Morty: Sits on top, kind of in the middle. Was very nervous but then Vulkan sits a row behind him and just starts talking? And it‘s nice? And he is listening to Morty talking about bugs? He bluescreens. Magnus: Sitting at the bottom, with the rest of the polycule-lovetriangle-thing. He has a lot of fun. A lot of drama happening. Makes out with Leman, Perty and Jagh at least once, Rob threatens to leave him behind on a rest stop. Horus: Can‘t decide where to sit. Switches places every few minutes. Wants to sit next to all his brothers. This was his idea and he is very happy how well it‘s going. Constantly on call with Emps of Malcador to tell them that everything is okay and everyone still alive. Lorgar: Cuddeling with Angron, doesn‘t really want to watch the movie so he listens to a audiobook. Once Angron falls asleep he starts writing on his own book. Vulkan: Sitting behind Morty. He has brought a ton of food and drinks with him and shares with everyone. Very, very happy. One of the few to properlly wear his seatbelt. Corvus: Sits in the overhead bag-storage-space. Probally sleeping, has plenty of birb-food for snacking with them. Alpharius Omegon: everyone feels like they forgot something, but they aren‘t sure what. Don‘t worry tough, the two sit under the chairs and have fun watching the drama. At some point just appear in the seats at the very front on top so they have the best view.

“Rissa?”

She poked her head out of the bathroom, fingers in her hair, pulling pins out with deft fingers. You turned your head back to look at the giant stuffed panda on the bed, nestled against the pillows, so out of place.

“Yes, my love?” she asked.

“Panda?” You pointed at it, looking at her with a raised eyebrow.

“It certainly is,” she replied.

“Sweetheart, I never thought I’d ask this, but why is there a giant panda on our bed?” you asked

She stepped out of the bathroom, doing her best to look innocent. You waited, wanting her explanation for the newest member of your family. She sat on the edge of the bed, still pulling pins from her hair.

“Have you heard what it says?” she asked.

“No?”

She gestured to it. You crawled over the bed, ignoring the way she sat back to watch you. Usually when you were crawling on the bed it wasn’t to play with a stuffed toy. You pressed its stomach.

“I love you.”

You looked at it, pressing the stomach again. The same message came from within it and you felt this was one of those moments where you might be dreaming. Or maybe you were having a fever dream.

“I’m going to ask again,” you said, turning back to her, “why?”

She sighed, holding her arms out to you. You crawled into her lap, now helping her remove the pins from her hair. She almost purred as your fingers massaged her scalp, leaning into your touch.

“You won’t believe it’s a gift for you, will you?” she asked.

“If it is, I’m going to begin to question when aliens replaced you,” you replied. Her lips quirked up in a smile, still painted red, so kissable.

You didn’t hold back, giving her a quick kiss, only she chased you when you tried to draw back. You laughed into her mouth, as she traced her hands down your spine. You sat back, holding her in place.

“So what’s up with the panda?” you asked, determined to get the answer.

“Wednesday won it and used it to distract me at the fun fair so she could run off,” she said with a sigh.

“That girl certainly keeps you on your toes,” you chuckled.

“She’s trouble,” she said.

“You like her.”

“Mm hm,” she said as your fingers began to massage her scalp again.

You placed a kiss on her brow, taking in her comforting scent, like flowers and old books and fire. She arms tightened around your waist until your head was resting against her shoulder and you were hugging her close.

“It can’t stay here,” you said, “I’m not sharing a bed with that thing.”

“Why?” You could hear the humour in her voice.

“Because your teenage student gave you a massive panda that says ‘I love you’ in a kind of creepy childish voice, and I’d rather not hear that in my ear in the middle of the night,” you said.

“Don’t worry, darling,” she said, “I’d much rather be cuddled up next to you in bed.”

“Thank god for that.”

You kissed her again, but you were both laughing and you couldn’t help but look at the panda again. You lent over, pulling it towards you, setting off the noise again. You got off her, walking over to the settee on the other side of the room putting it down.

You patted the top of its head before turning back to Larissa. She held her hands out to you, dragging you back onto her lap. Her kisses were sweet, and you quickly forgot about the panda.

Base

I start off by sketching where the bodies and objects are. Nothing too detailed. I’m just arranging stuff around and figuring out sizes. You shouldn’t spend too much time in drawing this and they shouldn’t be detailed so you can easily move the elements around without exhausting yourself beforehand ( also to avoid getting bored when you’re just starting.

composition is a little complex to figure out but for this one I made the characters around the middle point to create some sort of guide for the observer’s eye movement.

2. Initial sketch (optional)

I usually make one sketch for a drawing unless it has little details or elements I’m not used to drawing. For this one it was figuring out the clothes and the details on them. Again, don’t pressure yourself to make this look perfect or right. You’re just figuring out where things are.

As you can see, the sketch is pretty rough, not all the details on the hands are drawn. The eyeliner are still there and the chair is just a shape. Lots of lines are overlapping and.. you basically get the idea.

3. Second (final) sketch.

I wouldn’t call this a lineart. Linearts are more careful, less rough, cleaner. I like using sketches more than linearts because I like the rough sketchy texture they provide, and also it’s less restricting boring for me personally . Although we keep in mind this is the drawing we’ll color. So we’re more careful about it. I draw the details and clean the sketch.

also don’t be like me, I forgot to draw the cane here and was upset about it :(( didn’t notice till days later. But also sometimes I do change things here. This one wasn’t on purpose though.

it’s important here to avoid chicken scratch by using less strokes. For example. Instead of drawing a curve with say a hundred strokes, draw it with one and then clean up anything wrong. You make have to redo one stroke a hundred times to get it right, but it’s cleaner and softer. ( it helps with drawing hair )

Nothing is wrong in art but it depends what kinds of effect you want. You can use both methods to give different vibes, draw different things. But it’s important to know how to do them. oh and, it is one stroke but it’s fast. If you linger on it the line will come out woobly and shakey. If you do it fast it’ll come out clean.

4. Blocking.

You go back over the drawing here to fill in black spaces. Maybe if someone has black hair or for shading, you can also add texture on things like walls and etc*. I like leaving some white spaces when doing this because black is very reflective irl, so it gives some shine to it. It honestly depends on what the black element is, something’s are shiny some things are not. But it’s pretty fun

5. Grey scale coloring.

I have already a plate on hand of colors from white to black to use in my drawings. You can use three or more. This is the one I use

Circles to indicate that if you have white, grey, and black, that’s enough. why grey scale? The thing about grey scale coloring is that it helps figuring out contrast. You don’t want all your drawing to be of similar tone, when you have contrast, it helps make elements pop and differentiate things.

I’m honestly still figuring out how greyscale works but, looking at real life pictures is one way you can know how to do it. See how light is distributed where whites and blacks are used. One key element is to figure out where light comes from, and shading according to that . The light source isn’t very strong with this drawing so it was more of a simplified shading. If something is over the other, shade underneath. That’s the simplest way to figure out shading

before coloring, I did change the sketch to a more grey color and set the layer to multiply. What multiply does is that it darkens the color underneath it with a hue of the color in the multiply layer. I know, confusing, so here is a picture.

Sorry, got a little detailed there. back to our drawing.

As I said, the light source wasn’t very complex here to give more of a photo shoot vibe, but I can show another drawing with a more natural strong light

Places directly getting the light get very light colors like white, the ones opposite use very dark grey or even black.

of course the coloring here isn’t very realistic, I have, after all, colored the character, kristen, in lighter colors than everything else. This is because I wanted to create a sense of contrast to make her pop out against the background. So don’t limit yourself, play around.

6. gradient map

gradient maps replace the grey scale colors into other colors on a specific range, you can use a gradient map offered by the program or one you make yourself. How to chose them? Depending on the vibe you want to translate. I have synesthesia so I sort of follow my gut when it comes to this, but you can also look at movies and pictures and see what colors they use and what feelings they give. Or just go warm colors give warm feelings and cold colors give cold feelings. Or just whatever you like. Just have fun with it

See? It looks pretty fun. Heck you can even stop here even. Note that I merged the sketch layer and the grey scale one into one layer so it can change the color of the sketch layer too. Also sometimes id use the blur tool to blend some things but I didn’t use that here.

another thing to note is that if you leave things empty in the greyscale drawing they won’t change color in the gradient map, that’s why I use white in the empty spaces. Or sometimes I don’t if I’m unsure if I want to keep something white/black or not.

7. Coloring.

here, I add another layer and set it to multiply and basically color it in over the drawing. I have the colors for the characters on hand to use, and they change according to the gradient map.

note that it will look weird and wrong at first but just keep going, trust the process. The colors will fit in together.

Also notice the difference between the colors in the drawing and the colors on the color palette. Cool no?

And this is how the whole thing looks. You can also add details in here. Like the drawings on the vets and Ed’s bow tie. Makeup, blush, lipstick, nail paint… etc etc.

8. Details

I add another normal setting layer here and basically go back over the drawing to add details, fix mistakes, draw over things to make them pop off or look more hard than soft.

I mostly like going over the hair and facial features in this step, and also adding highlights and shine.

I also felt that the background was a little too empty, but I didn’t want something too detailed so it wouldn’t take the attention from the characters. so I added a pattern.

9. Finale touches. (Optional) sometimes the drawing is done here, sometimes it’s not.

I’d maybe add overlay and/or add layers and to highlight light sources, or add a multiply layer to emphasize shadows like in this example.

for this drawing I didn’t do that as I was satisfied with the lights and shadow, but it still felt too… rigid.

so I added a textile texture as a multiply layer so it would look more…Touchable?

This is the best cut content I’ve ever heard of.

I’m really sad this minigame was cut. Having a kind of rhythm game (I guess?) would have been really neat, and been… y’know, more than just three games, even though Checkerboard Chase is pretty fun.

I don’t care that this was cut from the final game, I’m considering it canon. Imagining these four in a little band trying to play is hysterical, especially because of the instruments they all have.

I’m gonna ramble about that now so if you don’t wanna read all that, here’s the cutoff for just my initial thoughts. If you wanna read more, here’s my insanity over this one image.

The instruments they have is just great. Dedede on drums is very fitting, and did end up returning later. Dedede’s Drum Dash exists after all, so obviously he loves his drums. Waddle Dee just having a tambourine and not something like a bass guitar is so funny. They look like a rock band or something because of the other three, but he just brought tambourines and they ran with it. Kirby, being the main character, of course has that leading instrument, the electric guitar. And Adeleine can play the keyboard so she isn’t just skilled in the traditional art, like drawing and painting, because apparently she can play piano too.

How is Kirby playing the guitar. He doesn’t have fingers. He doesn’t even really have arms, he just has nubs. What kind of guitar is that? How is he doing that?

Waddle Dee looks so happy to be there, like he’s glad that his friends aren’t mad that he forgot the bass and now they have to make do with tambourines.

Dedede looks mad for some reason? Like “I hate these drums I can’t jump on them what’s the point”.

That is a very large keyboard because Adeleine is standing on her tiptoes to reach it. And she’s one of the tallest characters in the whole series. She’s also more to the side where Kirby, Waddle Dee, and Dedede are all closer together. Are keyboard players usually off to the side? Does Adeleine just need space when she’s preforming? Does she feel like an outcast because she’s human?

The logo on Dedede’s drums looks like “K4” and I mean… the Kirby 4? Because there’s four of them? Or maybe 4 because 64?

Adeleine looks more like her design in Dream Land 3 in this. Her hair looks like it’s more in her face, but in Crystal Shards (and in all her later appearances) her entire forehead is bare, except a small strand of hair in her updated Star Allies design.

Kirby is so happy. He’s just smiling. Granted, he’s almost always smiling in Crystal Shards, since he smiles the whole way through all the levels when you’re just walking. But he looks especially happy here.

I wonder what songs they’d be playing? Maybe just some simple music, or music from the game or other Kirby games? A semi-rock remix of the Pop Star theme would be pretty awesome. Kirby just does an insane riff in the middle of it while his friends are still playing the theme normally. He would do that, and then look at them, and they’d all be stunned and he’d be smiling like that’s just how the song goes. Or they’d do Dedede’s normal theme and he’d be going all in on those drums the whole time while everyone else tries to play louder to balance it out.

Since I feel like this is still canon despite being cut, sometimes they’ll all get out their instruments (Adeleine just painting a keyboard) and play stuff for everyone. All the other Dream Friends are around in the castle making requests, and maybe Bandee remembers to grab a bass this time.

They play some songs suggested by everyone else, and then randomly throw in something to catch them off guard and either freak them out or delight them. Marx getting too annoying? Just start playing Kirby’s Triumphant Return! Meta Knight looking unimpressed? Time to play Sword of the Surviving Guardian! Want to remind Taranza that his girlfriend is dead? Moonstruck Blossom time!

Yeah I really like this cut minigame.

Ink Pomni??

Now I know that you're probably wondering why I made Ink Pomni (Even though there is one), it's because I thought I would like to make one that is from the fandom or my own story, since the multiverse isn't the only one as there are countless ones that are more than before, and this ink Pomni is younger and more to what she was meant to be a guardian to the multiverse. Lore: Paint and Ink was made by simple pencil and pen and digital coding, as she was just a Pomni that has been awake from her creators work, and was amazed and yet wondering around to see what is in here, though searching didn't last long as it would be still empty as she would wait for him to create more, and the waiting turning into hours, then days, weeks, months.... She would be a bit upset to why her creator left this work and didn't finish as she would be alone and just by herself, wondering why she is alive.... though as she thinks, something came down on her. She would see on what it was, and it was a pen and a bag, as she would be curious on what the bag was and once opening, she would see small vials and a note as she would see the vials first as it has colorful paint in them. She would try the first as she would feel the energy and joy from yellow, the sadness from blue, the anger from red, and intelligence from purple. She was fond with this paint and the way that she could use them, but the fun and all would be nice, though she would see the note as she would be...surprised and yet confused. It states "Greetings Pomni, it is me your creator, I am here to send you a note of the reason why I didn't finish my work. The reason is because...I feel ashamed and that, no one would like it, I was scared to the fact that I was going to achieve something but then realize about the terrors of doing it. So, I had no choice but to scrap the idea I have and left you there, though I didn't realize that you were alive and you looked a bit down, so I decided to draw these paint vials and gave you a pen, as I think that maybe you show go and creative more than I could ever do, cause I feel like you have the hope and determination to it all and could great. Good luck Pomni, I wish you well. -C". She would be concerned to why her creator gave up, but after what he said about creating her own story, perhaps she would do that and maybe even help others as well and teach them on how to create too. So, she would get her stuff and pen as she creates a line the flips it to the middle as it would be a portal she hopes in and be out to the Multiverse, years went by as she would be now having her jesters out her Satch of paints and Ink, a scarf her brush, and hat. Though she had a name when being a creator of Au's and the is Paint n Ink Pomni, or Paint and Ink for short as she would use the ink to make the outline of the world, the paint it with color from her vials or any color paint that she could find. i was keen on the idea of someone to balance desha's personality out, instead of the complete opposites-attract. coz this here is a brash and unapologetic man who mercilessly cackles and taunts bojji and domas at the first meeting. half the fun will be when someone doesn't really flinch at that. tempers him down a bit or countering and riling him up to make firecrackers is what I want to see.

honi was nearly engaged before - somewhat more experienced in the field? but things happened and romantic pursuits were shelved before they met. honi acknowledged that he was a man early on in their meeting, but after making up and a few more formal encounters assured her that he was worth being friends with. worth the days-long flight just for a few weeks of teasing, good mead and mushroom pies.

(but also the idea that if the canon queen is the persephone counterpart and was on the overworld for her six months deal when the whole season 1 happened is also great. which makes it hilarious if they met during part 2 coz she'd be like 'what tf happened to you?' and heartbreaking if he doesn't remember her. would be fantastic if she's any sort of queen like hiling and stubbornly gets shit done - might have a crisis that she cant find despa or ouken around, or launch some curses to the judge. but I don't know abt canon-queen. only the writer knows what might happen. as long as it isn't some poor excuse of a girl-failure of a villainess miranjo is, I'll be satisfied.)

sometimes i worry if my art will be considered ai work due to my poor anatomy but i swear it's really just a poor concept of anatomy😭 i have so MUCH to improve on digital painting. lighting, shadowing, composition, their size difference—they say the captain is 265 and desha's around the same height in the artbook. honi's like 180 and she's still so tiny! next to him despite being taller than average.

"That Happened" Bridge Carson x Reader

(A/N: I knew there was an insert reader I forgot to type!!! Found it. Ready? Reader has a crush on Bridge and somehow gets involved in a conversation with the Rangers.

Word Count: 464 words)

Working at Space Patrol Delta was more of a lifestyle mixed with a career. You slept there at Headquarters; ate, drank, and any other necessity.

Life in S.P.D. was hard work and had plenty of opportunity for fun. It wasn’t all stressful. You had a life. And that life involved living with Power Rangers.

A group of Earth’s protectors who also had a life within Headquarters. All with unique personalities.

One personality in particular made you want to kick your feet in the air and sigh dreamily.

How can someone that smart and caring also be adorable and handsome? And a Power Ranger. You thought as you glanced up from your book. Him and his warm brown eyes.

Off towards the center of the common area, the B Squad Power Rangers were in the middle of a conversation; a debate, really. Something about painting and possibly cheating.

Honestly, you weren’t sure how they verged on the topic in the first place. No one was actively painting or viewing an art piece. You guessed it was random conversation.

“They’re artists,” Sky said as he leaned back on the couch, “they shouldn’t need it.”

“Heh.” You flipped a paper in your book.

Typical, you thought. Shame though.

There was a few moments of a unanimous pause in speech. Expressions and glances passed around the Rangers while words in front of you caught your attention.

“Cadet (Y/L/N),” Sky spoke up, “do you have something to add?”

Peering over your book, you nodded. Much to the delight of the Rangers, such a friendly bunch.

“Yes or no for artists using tape,” Z clarified in case you weren’t sure of the nature of the debate.

Easy, you thought.

“Yes,” you said.

Sydney gave Sky a triumphant look.

“Tape is a tool,” you continued. “Like a ruler, like an eraser, and a brush.”

You kept your composure, confident in your reasoning even as a pair of brown eyes were fully engaged in you. Bridge’s gaze.

Swallowing, you added, “It’s strange to expect artists to draw or paint a straight line free handed because of their skillset. What, a carpenter can’t use a level or a tape measure? A scientist can’t reference a book? A baker can’t use measuring cups?” You smiled. “Tape is simply a tool.”

Cadet Tate pursed his lips, bested in your logic. The other Rangers had a tamed celebration for the end of the conversation.

Yet that didn’t hold your gaze. Not for long. You looked to Bridge, attentive as ever and still looking at you with ease.

An air of confidence and satisfaction surrounded Cadet Carson.

With a small smile, Bridge winked.

Caught by surprise, you ducked your head behind the open book as heat rose to your neck.

Oh, that happened.

This is such a lovely, lovely, sequence in ep 2 and a great way to show that Ling may be brash and loud and vulgar and what not but he is a genuinely nice person when it matters - he gives her the drawing back (that she wrote the address/directions on the back of) though he wanted it badly and though he barely knows her and she hasn't been warm to him. Because it's hers, not his. And even apologizes for crumpling it before he saw what it was. He is bashful and genuine and none of it is motivated by wanting to pick her up and it's honestly so lovely.

This bit! When she says it doesn't matter since this is just prep material and the way his jaw metaphorically drops because this is something he treasured so much and she's all "it's nbd piece of nothing."

God...I forgot how genuine they both were.

I love it, honestly. Because she's also not trying to pick him up (she's as far from that sort of thing as the moon) but he's admired her art and has been nice and protected her from the molesting creep so...

This is the very first time we see Qi Luo smile. At his enthusiasm. They don't know it, but they are beginning oh-so-gradually bring each other back to life.

Honestly, I love him. Also, I don't have this capped but the first thing he says is he doesn't have money to pay, which is why he has to come up with something else and it was my first drama and so I did not realize how rare it was to have characters who are broke and stay broke and act broke and it informs their living conditions but it is and yet this drama does. Except for a brief bit where he's made to live with his father again (and that ends fairly quickly), Ling is broke at the start and he continues to be broke through the end (though he gets to be a racer by the end so things are looking up) and Qi Luo herself is barely middle class. It's rare and I love it.

I am screaming into my hands at this scene no matter how many time I rewatch it but also, he really does end up carrying it out, doesn't he? I do love his protectiveness. Part of the reason Ling is first drawn to Qi Luo is not just her painting which makes him think of his mother, but it's because, at his base, Ling is a very protective person. Sheng has twisted that, one of Ling's best qualities, but it's still there and he's found another outlet for this, only this time she is worthy. Just as he is worthy of her trust.

Oh Ling ahahahahahahah

The thing that is so awesome about this little sequence is not that he just says it because he can't help it, he's not really meaning it or expecting anything but her reaction. She does not desire him in any way (sexual desire is a LONG way off for her) but she is not in the least shaken or uncomfortable because she knows he means no harm or even a genuine offer and is just being his usual self. In fact, she uses this opportunity to ask him to model which means she feels safe to be in confined spaces alone with him and this is insanely huge as is the fact that she allows herself to be amused at his confusion. But also his face before she clarifies is amazing ahahahaha.

This is actually going to lead me on a loooong discussion as to how this is a rare drama where the (eventual) sex scene isn't just for fun and aesthetics (not that there is anything wrong with that) but for character development and progression. Because sexuality and approach to it is a crucial important part of the story.

This is most obvious, of course, in the case of Qi Luo. QL, after the repeated rapes by her stepfather, is obviously someone who’s not only locked her sexuality away and threw out the key, but she is someone so incredibly traumatized when the drama starts that she can’t even bear to interact with boys in any fashion at all.

She is terrified of Ling/dislikes him in the beginning (and it’s a vague general dislike that she shares for the rest of the world, not specific to him) when he does nothing more than politely asks her for directions. This is the girl who used to pray every day that no one speak to her in school.

And yet, paradoxically, part of the reason she is OK with Ling at the very start, even before she falls for him, enough not to shut him out is that he is so open about everything, sexuality included. I am thinking of that bit at lunch where he is trying to talk to her and she is staying silent so he jokes whether she would like him to open her mouth with his tongue. It's ridiculous and overt like all his pick up lines which have the subtlety of a brick. But it’s all open, on the surface, nothing hidden, what you see is what you get. She knows where she stands. Everything out in the open (well, not his issues but that’s a matter for another discussion) and he doesn’t treat her as a weirdo but an attractive girl, but also his attentions are so good-naturedly out there and so general that she doesn’t have to worry about him pouncing for real. It’s just talk he’ll do with anyone and if she doesn’t take him up on the offer, he’ll find someone else and he is not really pursuing her. In fact, she sees how protective he is of her.

He is not like her stepfather or that teacher (as she actually tells him at one point.) She is terrified of ‘normal’ because she’s seen what horrible things it can hide. With someone like Ling, it’s not hidden at all and the very fact that he doesn’t lie or pretend, that all the weirdness is out there so she knows what to expect, makes her feel safe. (Of course, as we later find out, a part of her is drawn to Ling precisely because of the violence, because he is acting out what she so much wants to do, to her tormentors, in her head. Tong Dao might assume she is Ling’s good angel and he is right. He is also right that if she were to disappear Ling would go full blown psycho (even at the very end, when Ling says he wouldn’t get revenge on Tong Dao, I don’t know. It’s tremendous growth that he can even think that but I think he really would snap in some horrifying way if QL died). But, in some ways Tong Dao is very wrong as she has an enormous deal of darkness in her. After all, she is the one who wants the stepfather dead, and it is Ling who stops.)

And as she starts to interact and falls in love with Ling, she begins to open up, both emotionally and physically. Part of the reason she is so adamant about not giving Ling up (when Qing Mei threatens her and tells her she will smash her hand and so QL won’t be able to paint, QL replies that it’s only her right hand and she can teach herself with her left) is because he really is the only connection to humanity and to feeling normal she has. She has so few outlets that she is desperate to keep this - she clings to him because he's her first/last chance (and she is his.) And of course, through being with Ling, through letting in another person, finally feeling secure to feel, she begins to let others in as well: Da Ye, Qing Mei (who goes from enemy to a friend), etc. I love that she will always be an introvert, the reserved one. But she is so much more functional at the end.

But she opens up physically, too. I am thinking of all the kissing and hugging and the amount of physical contact, which must be such a novelty to her (the scene that kills me is when she later tells Ling that he is the first person she’s kissed because through everything, she’s never been kissed.) It's gradual and fraught and lovely and culminates with the sex scene after which, significantly, the sexuality thing is not really addressed again except in normal fashion of her waking him up in the morning or his father asking about kids blah blah.

Tangent: with that scene, it’s so crucial that she is the one who makes the first move, because after knowing of her rape, there is no way Ling would make the first move. It's pretty telling, the way she phrases her request to him: to take her back to the time before she was 16 (which is when she was raped). For her, making love with Ling is really reclaiming herself, fully freeing herself from her trauma, being fully who she is supposed to be, a college girl with a boyfriend who does all sorts of normal couple things, sex included. I think that is the crucial thing: for her, sex itself is made normal because she is doing it with whom she chooses and when she chooses. It is not forced on her and so she does not have to feel forced. (Side note: I rewatched this bit out of order and I love that Ling is so attuned to her that when she closes her eyes he realizes she is beginning to freak out and tells her to open her eyes and look and see that it’s him or that he tells her he’s never seen anything more pure than she is when she starts freaking out she is dirty…But I think it’s the look on her face at the end that kills me the most: it’s this total surprise that wow…this can be good.)

The interesting thing is, the narrative is pushing sex with love is great but sex outside of that even if not forced can be OK or can be a sign of something else. Just look at Ling. He is all about meaningless fun sex before Qi Luo. He would never force a girl or even chase one that’s not interested and he is very into having the girls have a good time as well, but the whole point is, his whoring around is a symptom of some of his problems: he doesn’t want to make emotional connections. He doesn’t want to feel, to be vulnerable, to open himself up to loss again (I bet part of the reason he ran as fast as he could from Qing Mei is because she wanted to get serious). In his extravert, gregarious way, he has walls even thicker than Qi Luo. But that’s the whole role reversal in effect in their relationship: loving him makes her able to open up physically. Loving her makes him patient about this with her. And makes him incapable of being with others (physically, no less!!!) Because it’s all about being able to connect.

It's made repeatedly clear, as I mentioned, that outgoing daredevil Ling is much more messed up and fragile than Qi Luo. The results of her trauma are very very visible: withdrawal from the world, lack of interaction, almost pathological shyness. Ling, when we first meet him, appears to be a fun extravert, popular if a troublemaker. But as we get to know him, we see that his demons are so much much worse even than Qi Luo’s. One doesn’t get locked away in a mental institution for nothing. Ling is terrified. He isn’t terrified of physical things. But he is afraid of himself: he is afraid of losing his mind (with good cause), he is afraid of the kind of person he is. If Qi Luo has loathing for her sexuality (or her lack/presence thereof), Ling things of himself as completely unworthy as a human being. He thinks he is useless academically yes. And a failure as a son and brother, true. But what really is the crux of the problem is that he thinks of himself as a monster. This is something Tong Dao latches on and Tong Dao isn't wrong at least in the sense that there is an enormous potential for darkness in Ling. I love that the drama doesn’t gloss it over. He is the guy who almost shot someone when he was a kid, he used to get into these completely awful fights which made Domyoji’s seem like mild temper tantrums (and before his committal they were getting worse and worse) and he is the one who almost chokes Tong Dao and stubs a cigarette out on his hand.

But that is why he needs Qi Luo. Qi Luo has seen him at his worst or knows of his worst actions and still loves him, and still believes in his goodness. In fact, she never lets him put himself down even as an offhand joke. Qi Luo loves him for him, not for the image he might project or because he’s cute or whatever. Just as QL is sometimes puzzled as to why he’d want to be with her, you can tell that a part of Ling is permanently astonished that someone who is ‘good’ and knows him so well actually continues to love him.

If Ling is Qi Luo’s ticket to normalcy, to interaction, Qi Luo is likewise a ticket to sanity for Ling.

He is someone who grew up in a horrible unstable environment, with a crazy mother and a father who tried to be distant. His almost pathological dependence on his brother, as they were sent away from family while still kids, is understandable but considering what Sheng was like, only led further down to trouble. Sheng is what really screwed Ling up, I think. Not just the suicide (though that is horrific enough) but because Sheng used Ling as his ‘id’ to act out his revenge fantasies/bad side, an outlet to everything the model son could not do, but he also would prevent Ling from developing a separate healthy identity. Just look when Ling tried (in high school).

I think Qi Luo is the first person Ling has who both loves him and cares for him (in many ways, from the most physical: she takes care of him when he’s sick and I realize that no one probably has before, or she cooks from him and he says that he doesn’t remember his mom but she’s unlikely to have cooked. I love that she makes him a silly, pink, ‘hello kitty’ lunch box and he looks at it and grins and is totally happy and you can tell that’s when he really thinks he wants to marry her), but she is also the first person in his life who loves him without manipulation or hidden motive and expresses her love as support and wanting what makes him happy for him. He has worth in someone else’s eyes for the very first time as a person, not an expression of something, or a symbol or what not. And I think that allows him to discover stability in himself. (Stability and tenderness. So much tenderness. The scene that really stays with me on rewatches is a very little one. It’s where she is alone at home and he knows she is afraid (though he doesn’t know why) and he stays by her bed the whole night, keeping her company, only to leave quietly in the morning.)

Dai Gyakuten Saiban 1 & 2 / The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles (Kazuya Nuri)

- Nuri's soft lilac shading is so beautiful + unique to his art! I also appreciate that this artbook is mainly full of sketches and renders you don't see in game. They're so expressive, I wish other artbooks had more doodles of the characters goofing off, you can tell Nuri loves these characters a lot hehe (how often can you say the lead artist drew april fool's furry designs + canon animal plushie designs for the mcs)

the doodles that really stuck out to me are spoilers so i won't share those, but they really feel like snippets from a slice of life anime which humanizes the characters so well

Fire Emblem Echoes (Hidari)

- Hidari's designs are so classy and elegant, the way his fabrics all have a palpable weight and texture to them, and his coloring is so warm... there's a good reason why his designs keep getting circulated with praise every once in a while hehe. I really hope they bring him back for another game!

(on a side note i rly love Nuri and Hidari's female character designs, it's refreshing to see! not to say that modest designs are inherently better than more fanservicey ones, but i find that the female character designs are even more memorable because of it! it's mainly a personal preference)

Fire Emblem Awakening + Fates (Kozaki Yusuke)

- god of drawing armor and anatomy in perspective... his poses are so dynamic because of his mastery of foreshortening. I love seeing his work in Heroes, it only continues to get better over the years! plus he designed Lucina and Inigo so :D

as much as i love his artbooks my favorite art from him comes from fe heroes! his units have the most unique posing in the game, it always makes me excited to see more of his art (i especially love how conscious/deliberate he is with body types in his designs)

Persona 5/ 4/ P4 Arena Ultimax (Shigenori Soejima)

- Soejima's art influenced my artstyle a lot back in 2017(?) and 2021! (I mainly enjoy his b&w rougher style since it's so bold and also a fun style to draw in, although his painted stuff is fantastic as well) I enjoy seeing the Persona designs since they're so different to what I usually draw and it's really hard to capture the grace he draws them with (especially P4's)

persona 4/arena ultimax have my favorite persona designs out of the modern games!

Death Stranding (Yoji Shinkawa)

- It's a shame you don't see Yoji Shinkawa's artwork in the game much (to my knowledge) because it's stunning how vivid, gritty, and yet effortlessly elegant it is. The monster designs are so haunting gahhh it's so cool! The mastery he has with ink and brush is insane he can be so loose with the lines and yet it conveys everything you need to know

the full body ink sketch of die hardman... it's so loose and yet it's very controlled aghh it's so impressive (i saw hunter schafer got her portrait drawn by him and like. imagine yoji shinkawa drawing you. ohmygod)

Okami (Takeyasu Sawaki, Kenichiro Yoshimura, Mari Shimazaki)

- when I was in middle school I didn't even know games could look like this?! The obvious traditional Japanese art influence makes the designs really unique even compared to modern games. The calligraphic brush strokes are so striking and I especially love the subtle ink bleed outside of the outlines, it honors traditional media so well. honestly this game's style in general is one of a kind

Journey (Matthew Nava)

- (although it is an artbook I've only been able to see a few of the pages! Nava does have an archived GDC talk where he presents the book that I still have to take a look at) I found the color script for the complete story interesting since it shows both the color corresponding with the literal height of the mountain for the hero's journey that the game was so inspired by. Plus the alternate designs for the iconic main character are so cute!

masterfully crafted experience... i think this is the first time i've seen a color script for a game? (although i guess i'm not that familiar with games)

Transistor (Jen Zee)

- my favorite Supergiant game! It's a shame there's so little of the concept art out there (I'm pretty sure I saw more years ago but I couldn't find them more recently... link rot grr...) Jen Zee's painterly style is gorgeous and the colors are so warm, so uncharacteristic of the cyberpunk genre we're typically familiar with! her art was also a big inspiration for me when I was younger

Apex Legends

- apex does have an artbook but l mainly enjoy looking at the character designs and the transition screens for compositions (especially the season 4 Revenant's trailer ones, one day I hope my background/environment art can reach a level anywhere close to that). The character designs and overall setting are different from my usual style so it's cool to see the attention to detail in fabric texture, prop design, worldbuilding, etc. and try to apply it to my designs

this transition has such a strong sense of narrative in the illustration, it impressed me so much i drew something inspired by it (i'm not sure who the original artist is, i thiiink it's liam mcdonald...?? i really hope i'm not misattributing it;; out of the concept artists his illustrations look the most similar...?)

I'm interested in Outer Wilds' artbook and Disco Elysium's but I don't think I can look at those without spoilers! both phenomenal games that i really need to finish (i know outer wilds' main story but not echoes of the eye)

MY LORE okay that's a new one

*THIS IS GONNA BE LONG AND RAMBLY*

Who I am? 17 year old genderfluid digital and traditional artist 👍

For my lore as an artist: My dad is a painter so from a very young age i was surrounded by art materials literally taking up half our small living room because of the easles, giant canvas rolls, wood, cabinets full of paints and brushes, etc.

Essentially I was very encouraged by him to draw lol, and it also came out of me just finding art so much fun in general. I knew that if I got good enough at it I could draw almost anything I wanted if i pushed myself to learn.

I get verrry engrossed learning anything creative and visual, whether it be making my own website, sewing, sculpting, video editing, 3d modelling, painting, woodworking, etc it's all SO! MUCH! FUN!! I also have to specify visual creativity because oh boy can i not stand trying to make music as much as i want to.

In school I was very obviously the art kid and one of the weird kids, but luckily never got bullied because i was charismatic enough and generally there weren't major major assholes at my schools somehow. I usually was involved with the special programs in my schools because of my enthusiasm to learn and participate, so I got an opportunity to enroll into an early scholarship program for LaGuardia art school in middle school which... i ended up turning down because i thought it would be too much work being in a college like that... which honestly only kind of regret because honestly now i'd rather get into drafting and architecture.

Speaking of drafting and architecture! The reason my dad became a painter is because my grandma couldn't afford to send him to school to become an architect, so he pushed me to go into the field as well now that I have the opportunity. I didn't really feel like it but it seemed kind of interesting designing buildings because if i knew how buildings were made, i could more accurately put detail into my art xD Most decisions I make are to improve my own artwork because it's my life and soul, and luckily i ended up getting interested into working with more drafting.

My first social media i posted art on was google plus, then came deviantart, then came youtube, then twitter, and now tumblr (and cohost & itaku). I still use twitter but my main account (@/hamunako) is essentially inactive, I don't care enough to keep posting there nor do i have the motivation NOR do i want to have the anxiety to feel like I have to keep posting because uh oh people wont interact with me otherwise!!!!! Now I just use a private account with less than 25 followers and its the best. I made this Tumblr account though just in case twitter finally deleted itself off of the face of the planet, and also because i've always wanted to figure out how tumblr works & instagram confused me even more than tumblr...

Short answer: ADHD (possible autism too?), Long answer: A long long time ago I watched manlybadasshero's playthrough of lonely wolf treat and loved it, then i forgot about it until i went on itch a while ago and saw that nami had posted mochi in frosting so I was like WOAH THERE'S STILL NEW CHAPTERS?! I got even more into it when it turned out one of my new friends ALSO had played lonely wolf treat so we drew the characters and it allllll spiraled from there.

Can't think of anything else interesting to share regarding my lore but yeah!!! Also I take commissions, just message me and i'll show what I can do and my prices! Don't have a formal post yet but i'll get to it at some point, i'm not very formal in the first place xP

Hello anon 🌸! You did well! These events are kinda weird at first, but its fun to see who people would ship you with if you were a character! Anyway!

I will explain, don't worry!

• Mirio would love you because you could be a small bean and at the same time an energetic person!

• He loves your shy side and loves it when you lean you him when first meeting people!

• That being said, he tries his best to see if the other person is an ok match for you to meet.

• Will they make you nervous? Do they deserve your cute energetic self?

• He also loved how you could be so full of life with him, it meant the world to Mirio that you were close enough to be like that with him.

• He doesn't quite know how to dance but he is down to it if you ask!

• He likes to peek over your shoulder to see what you are drawing/painting.

• Sharing earphones with him is a nightmare. He moves a lot so…

Imagine: You are feeling a little down and missing him, so Mirio decides to have a little couple moment.

• You miss him so much, you know he is a hero to be and often stays out.

• But you still miss the times he wasn't so busy, the times you would go for a walk in the park.

• Not like his hero work was bad! No it wasn't, it just took him away from you and his family.

• Like today. He had to help the remaining pro heroes now, since the prison break out and the whole Dabi thing made many heroes quit.

• It was in the middle of the afternoon, you were drawing something for a current blorbo, when you heard the doorbell ring.

• You grunted, it was the worse to stop in the middle of a sketch!

• You dragged yourself to the front door and as soon as you got there you heard a knock. You asked " who is there?"

• The reply you got: Owl. You didn't quite recognize the voice. But you decided to play along:" Owl who?" This time, a familiar voice replied: Owl will be seeing you again soon.

• You laughed a lot and swung the door open, to see Mirio standing there with a bright smile.

• You hugged him tight, he picked you up and spun you around.

• You asked him many questions as you led him inside: Why he was there, what happened to his duties, how things were going,if he was hurt.

• He avoided the most serious question - which was " how things were doing" - and replied the first one: he missed you. Decided to come relax with you.

• You were overjoyed, but worried by his lack of answers.

• You decided not to push though. Mirio would come around to it when and if he wanted.

• But he did notice you were a bit down.

• You soon forgot about your drawing and wanted to talk to him, but he got up from the couch and offered his hand to you.

• You were confused at first, he smiled at you: " c'mon! Take my hand!"

• So you did. To your surprise he decided to dance with you!

• No music, just you two waltzing around the living room - or trying to.

• You both laughed so much.

• You were so close to Mirio, you missed everything about him, the warmth, the laugh, the smell, the voice - all of it!

• This little session lasted until you two almost knocked a vase.

• Then you two busted out laughing.

• After this moment he apologized for being so absent.

• You forgave him. He was here and now, but asked him to take a bit more time to himself.

• Sure, everyone needs the heroes, but if he is not ok how he is going to help others?

• You could see he felt a little bad about it.

• So you just pulled him back to the couch and decided to use some white noise.

• You just wanted to cuddle with your favourite hero ever.

• Ah, if you ever say that to him, he gets ridiculously happy and blushes a lot too!
