Saria, Hilda, Mipha, Zelda and Link e. relationship with the reader who possesses the healing power. However, this gift carries collateral damage: whenever the reader performs a cure, he himself ends up getting sick and feeling bad. (Zelda and Link from Breath of the Wild)
S/O's healing power has bad side effects
Tumblr media
[ HEADCANONS ] [ Hilda, Mipha, Zelda, Link ]
[ A Link Between Worlds ] [ Breath of the wild ]
Tumblr media
Cuteeee I loved writing this a lot!! It gives me some comfort too so thank you A-chan ❤️
I had to left Saria out, so sorry for it but I hope you like the ones i wrote!
Tumblr media
Hilda
Lorule is a really hostile land, not only the monsters and world itself but also the people tent to be aggresive, and Hilda is the one on charge of taking care of the kingdom, even if most people don't care about the royal family that doesn't stop her from wanting the best for her people
Having to rule a kingdom infested with dangers and that most of the time doesn't respect her title it isn't easy, the weight she has to carry on her shoulders is inmense that is why she rely on you and Ravio in her more vulnerable moments, only you two are able to see all of her, and that is why she despises your hability
Honestly, having the power to heal all kind of injuries are a really good one, and she wouldn't blame you if you want to use that power to help others, something like that could bring a little bit of light to everyone's life and thats good, the problem is the collateral damage, everytime you use your power you are the one feeling bad, either just feeling bad or really getting sick equivalent to the wound you've healed
Hilda despise the fact that you are the one feeling bad, you become someone so precious for her and she hates seeing you suffer like this, she will totally understand your wish to help, she feels the same but she rather take that pain herself than watching you suffer by trying to help
Lorule is suffering a lot, everyone lives with the fear of being attacked, they are just try surviving before the inminent collapse of the kingdom, destruction is in Lorule fate and Hilda can't help to cling onto the little hope she has, and you are part of that hope, because of that she is terrified by the idea of losing you
Hilda had asked you more than once to don't use your powers, but is probably that she doesn't fully explain her reasoning and just ask it as a favor, but if you insist on using your power to help other she will become more angry and will be more agressive, demanding you to stop, what lead the two of you to argue because she just don't tell you why. Still, at some point she will explain how terrified she is, how much it hurt her seeing you feeling so bad because of your power
Even after, thanks to Zelda and Link, Lorule has it's own triforce again she will still be uncomfortable with you using your power, it would take a long time before she feels more comfortable with it, but will never like it (but at least this time she can take the time to take care of you herself, and won't accept a no as answer)
Tumblr media
Mipha
Mipha is a really caring and loving person, she is always looking after the well-being of her kingdom and specially for those who she loves, and that includes you
At first she found quite funny and even a little cute the fact that you have a healing powers just as her, but soon she will undestand the side effects that you have to carry with yours she will grow really worried imediatly. She wants to ask you about it but is nervous, so she'll just end up learning about it by watching you and asking you as much as she can, but will do it gently and assuring you that you don't have to tell her everything if you don't want, in case is something that you don't like talking about
Mipha finds herself worring a lot about you for this side effect but won't really stop you from using your power if that is really what you want, she can understand that feeling of wanting to help since she feels the same, besides she doesn't feel with the right to tell you to don't put yourself at risk with your power since she usually does put herself in danger for being a champion
Despide how worried Mipha is about you, whenever you use your power she can't help but also feel proud of you, wanting to help even if you are the one who end up feeling sick, she can't stop smiling at you whenever she sees you or she gets to heard about you helping others, but always make sure to ask you how do you feel afterwards
Everytime you use your power Mipha always tries to be there for you, asking you how do you feel and if there is anything she can do for you, even if you don't feel too bad she is still worried about you, it would take her a while to get used to the side effects and to learn to identify when it has affected you too much, and when the effects are too bad she offers to heal you herself
As much as worry her she will let you continue using your power if you really want, she will only ask you to please stop when it start to affect you too much, either by you getting seriously sick or hurt by using it or that you been using your hability too much, also if you don't let yourself have a proper rest to recover, even if is just when it causes you small discomforts she will try to be more stern and ask you to please stop, at least for a while to let your body recover, she is just really worried for you, she loves you and hates seeing you in pain
Tumblr media
Zelda
Zelda is a really caring person but the idea of failing at her duties as the princess stop her from opening with others, most of the time she shows herself only to the most closest ones and even when she tries to keep her composture with the champions (her friends) and you, you can easily see through her
Thats is why pretty much all of them can see how bothered she is with the side effect of your hability, Zelda does admire your healing power and think is really useful but the fact that you have to suffer from it makes her feel uneasy, she tries to say that its okay, is your hability and you must use it as you please but you can see that she is just lying
For Zelda is difficult to feel comfortable enough to open her heart to someone, even when she isn't the best to keep a facade when she starts to feel more comfortable she doesn't say it directly, but since you two are dating she feels like she can actually show you her true self, and that carries a insecurity, fearing that you either leave her or something happen to you and the side effect of your hability only trigger her insecurities
Honestly, she would be jealous of you if it wasn't because of the side effect, you can use your healing power so naturally that would make her feel even more as a failure if it wasn't because you have to carry a collateral damage everytime you use it, having to suffer instead of the other person, she finds it completely unfair and she would prefer if you don't use your hability anymore because of it, but she won't say it right away
Everytime you use your power on her she feels really guilty, even if she never is the one asking for help and is you who insist on doing it she feels like if, somehow, it were her fault, feeling impotent since now you have to suffer the consecuenses of her inexperience and foolishness, and even when she doesn't say how she feels you can tell from the look on her face
Despide being busy Zelda always tries to make time for you two or keep you close, so everytime she sees you using your power she ask you how do you feel afterwards and always makes sure you take proper care of yourself, and whenever the damage it causes you is worst than the usual pain she will force you to stop and take time to rest, trying to be herself who takes care of you, and you can see how anxious she feels about all of this
Sometimes she thanks you for your hard work, thanking you for being selfless and helping people even if that means you carry with the pain, she just wants you to know that despite how much it bothers her seeing you in pain she does appreciate the sacrifice you are doing
Tumblr media
Link
Link express himself better by actions rather than with words, so, despite being busy or in the danger, he tries to keep you close to him, it is kinda comforting for him to have you around and he always tries to let you know how much he loves your presence
Link finds fascinating your healing power, it really can come in handy sometimes, and finds admirable the fact that you decide to just endure the pain it causes you having to use your power, however that doesn't make him less worried
He is in the disjunctive of being worried for you and your own safety (since puts at risk for trying to help others) but also finding admirable that you are willing to endure that to help others, even if you don't use your power frequently still the few times you do it you still have to endure pain
Link hates seeing you in pain but doesn't think that he has the right to ask you to don't use your power, is your hability and you must use it if you want, so he decide to help you in other ways, making sure you are always safe and taking care of yourself, as well as protect you from anything else
Even when he doesn't say anything you can see how much Link actually worries about you for the way he look at you everytime you have to suffer from the side effect of your hability, how he holds you close to him or how all his attention in on you, trying to come with a way to help you out but without wanting to take his eyes out of you
He feels bad everytime you use you power on him, it makes him feel slighly guilty, thinking that maybe if he wasn't so reckless, if he payed more attention or reacted faster, maybe you wouldn't being here healing his wounds, even when it isn't the case he feels like if he was the one inflicting you that pain, even if is just a little bit (he sometimes insist on you not helping him when he has bigger wounds because he doesn't want to inflicting you so much pain, but most of the time just give up when you insist)
However, this whole situation will affect him more if it is after the cataclism, after waking up Link feels like a stranger in the world, he doesn't have anything because all he once knew is far long ago, and worst because he doesn't even remember it, so right now he just cling a little to the comfort your presence brings him, having someone to love and who love him in return despite everything helps him feel less like an stranger, that is why it makes him really anxious everytime he sees you in pain because of your power (or in general)
In that case he would prefer if you don't use your power because it makes him fear that something will happen to you and take you away from him, and at some point he will tell you all his worries, he knows he is stronge but he doesn't has the same confidence on himself as he used to, so he just fears that someday maybe he won't be able to protect you
In this case he feel even more bad about you using your power on him but never fails in thanking you, but grows more clingy afterwards, wanting nothing but hold you close to him to reasure him that nothing bad will happen to you (and he makes sure to take good care of you, sometimes over react a little but he does it with the best intention)

More random thoughts .3.
So, our three good bois… they have all been through a lot in their respective lives.
Cal moved away from his family to serve as a knight to a princess who doesn’t even know how to achieve her full potential yet… and he’s supposed to care, then it all gets ruined in the end anyways… and DIES!
Wild, gone through all of that… awaken 100 YEARS LATER! All of his friends and family are long gone and he’s told to protect and save the princess AGAIN! Mind you the SAME ONE who couldn’t even save him in the end, but somehow saved herself. Yes technically Zelda was able to have others take Wild to the shrine but that doesn’t make it any better. But he tries to get everything back to the way it was and have some peace.. but then…. Of course… she had to explore underneath the castle… SHE JUST HAD TOO!
Sage, with everything that happened. Everything thing that had happened…. Including damn near losing an arm and being corrupted…. It all make sense now. Sage has EVERY RIGHT to be as feral as he is. The rage… the RAGE!! Lost his family, friends, position, his status, his sanity…. And it was all for a princess… WHOES KINGDOM BARELY EXISTS!!! AND SHE TOOK HIS HOUSE! But you want to know what I think? As much as I can see the rage, the anger, and the hate that Sage has kept inside for so long… he honestly just wants to break… he wants to just cry all of the tears that he had kept looked up for so long, hell if you think about it… who’s not to say that Sage hasn’t thought about canceling his subscription from his existence??
I finally understand why he’s so attached to the Reader, not only do they see him as an actual person with feelings, they don’t judge him for it. They understand just how much this poor cupcake has went through… and all Sage wants is to hold them and cry, cry until his voice is long gone from existence, but he still has too many tears to spare, he’ll just hold on to Reader and cry for days, weeks if he could… and Reader knows that Sage needed this, he needed to know that he is loved and it’s ok to be sad… and they’ll hold him for eternity if they have to.
The triplets are so fun to spitball with.
Cal feels so trapped by his duty, especially with Fauna treating him the way she does. So when he's given the opportunity to have someone who isn't oppressing him, but instead steps back and lets him flourish? It absolutely strings something between the two of them. Something heavy and unbreaking because he can't go back to the way he was before. He'd go insane.
Wild is almost the exact opposite. He's so sporadic and unpredictable that he's so thankful to have someone to ground him at long last. Even with Flora breathing down his back, all about rebuilding this and redoing that (Even redoing the very things that killed him and the champions in the first place), he can get through it all with you beside him, acting as an anchor.
Now, Sage. I love the ideas you brought because we have to look at his character as a whole. He went through the militant training that Cal did, lost his life and his friends, woke up over a century late like Wild, was just as lost and manic as he was. But he had managed to pick himself up. Had managed to settle himself long enough to deal with the initial threat before attempting to give himself for room to fully quell himself. But then he wasn't given that time. Instead forced back on the front line, now tainted by this Gloom, and dragged back to the bottom of the barrel, sans a whole arm (While he had Rauru's, it wasn't the same). That and the bitch took his house. That would absolutely destroy any sane person, let alone someone like Sage who is so broken.
Small TW: Talk of unalive-ing!
The idea that Sage has in fact thought of that route is something I've been toying with back and forth. He is such a broken man. He's tired and destroyed in every way. Mentally, emotionally, now physically? He had nothing. People don't care for him, they forget he exists without Natura parading him about. He can't even go to Hateno, they all plainly favor her over him; after all they just let her take his house. And worse of all? He's sick. He's infected with this Gloom, which tears him to shreds and hurts. It clenches his heart and constricts his lungs to the point where he's too delirious with pain to tell up from down sometimes.
There were probably times he debated just...giving up? Why be a pawn for Hylia to use? Why go through this torture and this pain over and over and over again? There was so much more to do since his first (Second?) adventure and just thinking about it is exhausting.
But when he meets Reader?
When someone cradles his shattered parts with any form of genuine care? Who lets him cry without holding it over him? Who doesn't think twice about shielding his vulnerable parts from the outside world?
He has a reason to live now. To fight and survive. Not just survive, but thrive. Because he's not living for himself anymore. He's living for his Goddess. He's buying a house on the outskirts of Tarrey Town, he's hunting those shrines down for the light inside. He's learning how to use this new arm to his advantage. He's honing his senses and perfecting the techniques that helped him survive the first time. Foraging, hunting, fishing? All of it? He excels to impress you. He is clawing out of the hole he was dropped in and fucking prospering.
And he'd make damn sure he'd continue to do so. Just to keep his Goddess in his grasp.
I just wanna hold Sage while he cries ;-;, like lemme brush your hair and cradle your cheeks, with a little smooch to your perfect cheeks.

Thank you so much for asking! the week was less stressful but more busy but i'm slowly catching up on all the things i'm behind on! (writing and laundry and i need to thaw some chicken)

Saeth: doing alright. Really sore and tired. Our wrist is killing us because host got into on tumblr (rping as if Pokémon is real) and killed our hands lmao (I’m plural and not the host of our system)
*they've also been playing the new zelda game and finally passed out after refusing to sleep so they could keep playing - lumine
-
Alec stares at his little sister and his something-of-a-younger-brother Jace and wonders exactly where everything went wrong. It’s one of the rare times that Alec gets to see them both and while he’s still getting used to Jace, he likes the other boy well enough.  Or at least, he does when he’s not encouraging Izzy to break the rules and be stupid.
“We’re not doing that.” Alec says, interrupting Jace’s latest attempt to form a plan. A plan that Alec already knows wouldn’t work. “Mother left us here with the understanding that we are mature enough to not cause problems or get ourselves into trouble. Are we not mature enough?” Alec gives them both the deadpan stare he’s seen Ragnor give to idiots and is gratified when they shuffle nervously.
“But hermano—” Izzy whines and Alec’s noticed that she only ever calls him that when she wants something, “LA is so boring compared to New York. We just want to see if the demons are different!”
“It’s daytime. The only demons you could hunt are in the sewers. I didn’t know you were so interested in sewer monitoring.” Alec pretends to brighten up and he starts to tap into his tablet when Izzy shrieks and tries to grab it from him.
Alec’s genuinely surprised.
Not many people dare to touch him and certainly not in anger, so it’s with baffled confusion that he watches his shadows pluck Izzy up and deposit her back in her chair.
“That was rude.” Alec comments, because he’s not sure what else to say. “I didn’t realize you were still a toddler, Izzy.” Because he honestly doesn’t remember having to deal with this level of entitlement since Izzy was two and refusing to understand what ‘no’ meant.
“I’m bored and you’re such a dull blade, Alec!” Izzy complains and she huffs and crosses her arms, “Jace and I agreed we were going to have fun!”
“Well, I didn’t agree to that, and this is going to be my Institute.” Alec reminds her, because it is and he’s not about to risk getting what he wants because his baby sister wants to act like a baby. “The portal to Idris is still open, you can always leave.”
Alec nods decisively and says nothing, even when Izzy’s face scrunches up and she sniffles or Jace sends him a dark, admonishing look. Izzy and Jace get to do whatever they want in LA, but this isn’t LA and Alec isn’t that nice. Ragnor’s taught him all about consequences and Alec’s not going to be paying the price for other people’s stupidity.
Also, Alec already knows that Izzy and Jace aren’t interested in hunting demons during the day. The two of them want to see the mundane side of things in New York and if Alec knew anything about the mundane side, he might be willing to show them around.  However, he doesn’t, and he doesn’t trust them on their own. Therefore, they won’t be leaving without supervision and his company.
“We never get away from LA and you’re being such a jerk.” Izzy complains and she looks about ready to throw her plate on the floor, something else Alec thought she’d already grown out of. “You never even visit me, so why is it a big deal if we want to explore here with you?”
“You know why I don’t visit you.” Alec tells her, honestly confused, “I didn’t think you also hated Robert.”
Izzy pales and Jace looks between the two of them with confusion hidden under his arrogance.
“There’s no guarantee Robert will survive a second encounter with my shadows.” Alec explains and he shrugs, unsure why Jace looks so distraught and upset. “Mother says he’s lucky he was left alive. If I visit LA, I’m going to have to see him and if I see him, there’s no telling what happened. So, I guess I’m asking, what changed? Because I thought you still loved him?”
Izzy gives a little, small snarl and falls into the back of her chair with a glower. “Fine, that’s not what I meant. Don’t be stupid Alec, I just meant you could loosen up. Learn to live a little and let us live a little, you don’t have to be this unfeeling soldier all the time.”
“Not letting you break the rules isn’t being unfeeling or a soldier.” Alec rolls his eyes, “it’s understanding that the consequences for the rules you want to break aren’t worth it. Especially when the only reason you want to break the rules, is because you’re bored and curious.” Alec waits a minute and then he looks at them both, “and spoiled.”

LoZ - Hylia as a Character
Honestly, I really like the fact that Zelda/Hylia admits, rather openly, in fact, that what she did was wrong. Then, she owns up to it.
They could've gone the route that "this is destiny, you must" or made it seem like something entirely righteous & that the fact that it saves everyone automatically makes it okay, but the writers didn't.
What happened. What Hylia put into place was a necessary evil, but still wrong by its very nature of being a necessary EVIL. She manipulated Link, not because she wanted to, or because she was a bad person, but because it was the ONLY way that she could see things working out for the benefit of as many people involved as possible.
Still doesn't make it right, but it makes it understandable. Which are 2 very different things. And I've seen a lot of people conflating the 2. For whatever reason not realizing that you can understand why someone did something & that that something can still be wrong or morally questionable. And that these are 2 things that can exist at the same time.
Because Zelda said it best, "it was a war." It wasn't like what SS Link had experienced, where he was fighting most enemies one on one & it was really only himself who was in danger at a given moment. There were battles with armies & even the game says that the demons killed without mercy. In situations like that, you might have to do things that compromise your own morals & I just...
It makes Hylia so much more human in a way. She's not like the 3 golden goddesses who you only really interact with individuals who have their names & who may just be people that resemble them. (Minish Cap, Oracle of Seasons, & Oracle of Ages.) SS Zelda actually remembers being Hylia.
Thus meaning that SS Link's interaction with SS Zelda in that scene before putting herself to sleep, was the closest interaction any Link has ever had with an actual higher deity.
You get her actual opinion. Her regrets, her apologies. Seriously, she apologizes repeatedly. While it may be filtered through Zelda, who obviously cares very deeply about Link (yes, I ship zelink here, what of it), as she said, she was both Hylia & Zelda. Specifically, still Link's Zelda.
And I... I can't hate Hylia as a result.
Which causes me to not really understand the Hylia hate that I've seen here & there.
Like, it isn't Hylia's fault that she, Link, & Ganondorf were cursed. That was all The Bringer of Demise & his toddlerish butthurt over losing to not just a mortal, but a mortal teen. He cursed them, not Hylia. And what exactly do people think Hylia could've done?
What were her other options? She wasn't a goddess anymore at the time! And we dont even know the rules regarding the Hyrulean gods! There could be some sort of rule of non-interference or only indirect interference unless you give up your godhood that we don't know about!
And, if she hadn't done something, then think about what could've happened as a result.
According to the information that we currently have, Demise would've taken over & made a wish that we don't even know. Not only that, but he had apparently been killing so many humans that Hylia felt the need to lift pieces of land into the air via nothing but magic to keep Demise away from them! Like putting a toy up too high for a kid to reach.
This suggests that they nearly went extinct!
Also keep in mind that she literally gave up her godhood to keep everyone safe!! That's... that's huge!
Also, I hate that there are fans out there who blame Sky for them being cursed!
Dude just finished a fight with a Daimaō (yōkai general). A battle that involved a LOT of lightning striking the Master Sword, which is known to cause temporary deafness, disorientation, ect.
He likely wasn't even aware that the Bringer of Demise had cursed him & Zelda both.
The only person anyone should be blaming here is Demise.
Though, that does bring into question why Fi didn't notify Link of this fact.

what’s some of your favorite loz/Lu fics of all time? :)
Most of my favorite LU fics are here
but what you guys may not know is that I'm also a big fan of botw and modern au Zelink fics, however, take heed, most of these get a little spicy
Like Real People Do by ScarlettStorm: one of the best post-botw fics out there, lots of pining, I absolutely adore how Link's experience with Gender is portrayed, how he and Zelda are both treated as equally traumatized, as sometimes it feels like there's always one troubled one and one caregiver and I can get that for shorter fics but this one is long and beautifully balanced in that aspect. It also gets real horny at the end and in my opinion, it's very tasteful.
Alone With You by @deiliamedlini: honestly this author has a bunch of bangers, I'm waiting for their pirate au to finish so I can binge it all and I reread their Zelink oneshot collection all the time, this one is their modern high school au where Link is kind of a bad boy who is secretly Fucked Up, and Zelda is a popular girl and surprise surprise, they both get along really well. Normally I hate anything that reminds me of high school but this is the only exception. I love how previous characters are included, like how Link knows ASL bc he's friends with Pipit who is deaf and how Revali is a bitch and I still want to strangle him. Also big sister Aryll is a treasure and this fic does such a good job portraying Link's mental struggles and PTSD and how Zelda is being neglected and I'm also a big fan of the overarching plot of medical issues and trauma.
The Calamity of Link's Cargo Shorts by @zeldaseyebrows: I don't understand how someone can make smut so funny and so focused on Zelda's own self-hatred. Seriously though, there's a lot to love with this fic and I adore Zelda's pov. Sometimes you have to have sex before opening up emotionally and that's okay. Also, it's a modern au too, I just realized how many of these are modern aus.
Strangers in the Night by @zeldaelmo: Another modern au, this time Zelda has a kid from a ons with Link and he doesn't know about it for a bit, I just love Link being a dad and how they both work for a museum and there's just something about the courtroom scene that makes me want to reread it over and over again. Sometimes it's hit or miss with family ocs but Tetra is my favorite zelink child ever. All the fics on this list are ones I reread a lot but this one is the one I'm currently rereading bc it's been a few months lol. I love the domestic but also a little dysfunctional vibes, it's definitely not the normal romcom type of thing but I think I like this more.
K.K. Love Song by @airplanned: Again, modern au, pandemic edition. This one in particular has a certain unexplainable soft vibe, like there's some long-distance, Animal Crossing online romance and idk why I like it so much, I guess I was one of the suckers that got pulled in by new horizons when it came out so there's some strange kind of covid nostalgia and it's nice to see how a functional government would deal with the pandemic. Also, Link's grandma is a treasure and there's something sweet about crown princess Zelda meeting some guy on animal crossing and accidentally making him a public figure by dating him. Honestly, this author has a lot of great fics that I reread a lot lmao.
Farore's Day and Windvane Lane by Jenseits_der_Sterne: modern thanksgiving au, Zelda is a quirky scientist single mom and Link is her neighbor. I love Link being a nerd and Zelda being a bit of a disaster. Like she accidentally almost blows up her kitchen and he's just looking on with heart-eyes, after helping her put out the fires of course.
tbh, I'm probably not the best person to go for fic recs as I just find a few really good ones and then reread them till the end of time and rely on other people to recommend me things to read lmao, I hope this was at least a little helpful anyway.

Years ago (crazy to think about how many years, honestly), I started Sands of Time as writing practice to see if I could get into the practice of writing on a regular schedule (it failed). I had a bunny inspired by thinking too much about Ganondorf and his role in OoT and WW, decided it was as good as an excuse as any to work on writing regularly (failed so hard), and it ended up becoming a love letter to a game series which I've loved almost my entire life.
That fic kept going and going and taught me so much about writing, both in general and fanfic-specific. It ended up being far longer than planned, more detailed than planned, and even when I was distracted and tired and side-eyeing this massive WIP, it reminded me of how much I loved the Zelda games and the many details, overt and subtle, in them. Writing was more than just putting words on paper: it was translating the things I was passionate about. Even if there are some definite issues in the fic due to the many distractions occurring during its creation and how sometimes I wrote less because I was passionate to write and more because I was just stubborn about seeing the fic through, it's still a fic I'm very proud of. It is also, without a shadow of a doubt, my most popular fic. It is a fic that someone refused to rec because they wanted to hit lesser known Zelda fics, and holy shit, I preened when I read that.
I have been struggling with fic and fandom in the last year for many reasons, including some serious RL stressors. The other big reasons have to do with the evolution of fandom itself. I'm not talking about the rise and fall of the popularity of certain things. For example, while I'm not a fan of "reader" fic, I feel like it's a fantastic example of the things that can be done with the fanfiction medium and also a way to explore how tropes/genres/random things in fanfiction reflect different cultural changes in the same way horror movies do. What I hate, though, is the rise of negative feelings and negative takes in fandom, transforming it from a fun, collaborative atmosphere into an arena full of witch hunts, deliberately bad takes, and people terrified to write because they are afraid of being attacked for their content, pairing, writing styles, grammar, etc. I love fandom as a love letter to canon, an exploration of canon, an exploration of self and writing styles, among other things. Now it feels like it's no longer that.
Back in the Old Days, people put disclaimers on fics because they didn't want to be sued. Now people put disclaimers on things assuring readers that of course they don't advocate these things, these things are bad, they know it, they aren't a criminal, they aren't a pedophile, they aren't a Bad Person. Now I see people skip summaries just to tell people to stop attacking them for their pairing and to just let them write what they like.
I see people indulging in deliberate bad takes of the original content, of the original creators, of other writers in fandom, of different tropes, of game mechanics... fucking everything. Sometimes it's just a nasty circle. Sometimes it's done to elevate something else, because we all know the only way to elevate something is to put something else down. I understand vent sessions. I understand going to a friend and going "Holy shit, did you see that summary??? Wow!" It should stop life as a quick vent. It shouldn't make up the person's entire personality. It shouldn't require a full online presence. Hate should never be detailed in the comments. Call-out posts should be left to actual nazis, terfs, etc., not to someone who wrote a "gross" or "unhealthy" or whatever pairing. Seriously. If you waste so much time on that, you need to look into some self-exploration and therapy. In all sincerity.
Fanfiction is not a published work. It should be fun. It is put online to be shared with fellow fans. It is something where someone gets excited about something or has an idea about something or wants to explore something or just wants to write some kinky porn and then share it with fellow fans. That's why writers post work and then sit eagerly .02 seconds later waiting for people to comment on it because they want to share their thoughts and love and happiness and excitement and sadness and grief and their general emotions with others and they want those others to respond and share their thoughts and reactions, too!
I just saw a post tearing into Moffat's Sherlock series because it lacked sincerity for the audience and source material and instead indulged in its arrogance, contempt, and self-righteousness. My immediate thoughts turned to the Lord of the Rings movies. If Sherlock is remembered, it will be purely in the critical sense, an example as to how a popular series was forgotten and dismissed. LotR remains loved. It is a classic. It is something people repeatedly marathon despite the lengthy watch time. LotR was a love letter to its source material. It wasn't just the writers and directors: everyone involved was sincerely, fiercely passionate about it, and it shows. It drags the watchers in, prompted people who had never read the original to pick up the books, inspired so much fanfiction. It was sincere and passionate and loving and, in turn, its fans are sincere and passionate and loving.
The LotR movies explored and loved the genre, the characters, the message. Even when characters faltered, it didn't make them terrible people. It made watchers hold their breath, it made watchers cheer them on, it made watchers hope. Check out people who do bad takes of Frodo and his struggle with the Ring and watch how many people come out of the woodwork to defend Frodo. There was no tongue-in-cheek humor mocking the source material. There was no critical analysis of "Well, you see, this is how the hero was actually stupid." No. It was sincere. It was loving. It still makes people cry and cheer and happy even when they're wiping away a sad tear or two.
I've read fanfics where the writers insist on the worst takes for the characters. It isn't done out of humor or a teasing love or an exploration into the characters/writing styles/etc. The writers want to drag the characters down, put themselves on a pedestal, and do it not through sincere analysis but by doing the worst possible takes on the situation. This usually relies on going into the source material with a negative mindset and desiring negativity in return, feeding primarily on the negative takes of others rather than looking into the source material or looking for positive takes, or just having a "bad faith" mindset. They go into it with an axe to grind and want to drag everyone else down with them. It isn't one or two fics: it's a growing, poisonous movement which is one of the things driving people out of fandom. It isn't a love letter to the source material. It is hate and disgust and contempt and Moffat writing Sherlock, patting himself on the back all the while and surrounding himself with people doing the same exact thing.
I'm a strong believer in people writing whatever they want to write. You want to write this character being evil? Sure! You hate this character and want to make them OOC to bash them even more? Go for it! I've written so many things testing how far I could go or feeling angsty and wanting others to feel angsty or even feeling happy and grinning like a feral gremlin as people wrote comments talking about how the angst in the story made them bawl. Want to write vore? Want to write character death? Whatever! It is fucking fiction, and it should be something you can enjoy doing. Hell, an asexual person can write two people fucking without wanting to get fucked. A lesbian can write two men fucking. A pacifist can write a murder mystery. It is fiction. Write whatever you want, and I hope that you feel better after doing so, even if it is only in the catharsis way of having a bad day and getting it out by making characters bleed.
Already, I can fucking hear people insisting that all of this makes you a bad person. No. No. If you truly believe that, it means you don't understand writing. You don't understand art. OR it's not a misunderstanding but a deliberate Bad Take, an extension of the poison I described above, because you want to attack someone and you want any opening. See: Republicans going after Drag Queens now, probably not actually believing that Drag Queens are harmful but recognizing vulnerability and knowing they can manipulate others through hatred. If you truly believed that, you would be wondering about Stephen King and other writers, but instead, you use conservative attacks and uncritically promote purity culture and are oblivious to the day when the leopard turns around to eat your face.
It's exhausting. It's a growing trend that is poisoning the water that is fandom and is not only playing a part in driving people out, but is keeping people from ever trying their hand in the first place. It is keeping people from enjoying what should be a fun thing. It is fucking poisoning minds, because this is a damned slippery slope. Hammer/nail and all that. It is seeing one thing as "problematic" and knocking over one tile and then seeing a full domino effect because they never bothered to analyze what "problematic" meant or why they found that "problematic." It is people grabbing a torch with the hope they won't find themselves on the stake.
Let people enjoy fandom. Try having positive takes. Let fanfiction and fanart and fanworks in general be something enjoyable again. Maybe some people use it as a way to vent current political issues. Maybe some people want to explore certain sexual kinks and writing these two (or three or five or seven) characters going at it is a great way to do it. Maybe they had a funny thought and want to share it via fanfiction. Whatever. We can't go online and bash people like Moffat and then casually do the same exact thing. We can't bitch about conservative politicians attacking people and then use the same exact thought processes and methods to attack others.
Let people be sincere in their enjoyment. If you don't like it, find something you do like. Maybe take some time with some tools and explore things which make you happy instead of indulging in deliberate bad takes to tear others down and use those takes to bind yourself to others and their bad takes like barbwire. Remember why things like LotR lives on and makes people so happy and why Moffat's works are going to be used in classes in the future as to what not to do.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night Part 4: Nocturne in the Moonlight
Up until now I’ve been singing this game’s praises and, to be fair, I will continue to do so in future videos. However I believe the time has come for the other shoe to drop so to speak and ask a very simple yet tricky question:
Is this a Castlevania game?
Some may think this question to be stupid but others may understand what I’m getting at here
Sotn marks a major departure from what had previously been established in this series. Keyword being MAJOR
Nowadays we live in an era when popular game franchises are applying drastic changes to their formulas, often taking elements from other more popular series, in other to gain more appeal. Zelda and Sonic have gone open world, God of War has gone The Last of Us with RPG mechanics etc
And honestly? Sotn is not different in this regard
This game not only has barely anything in common with the previous ones but it’s also their complete opposite in many ways
Gameplay wise? The classic games were linear, level based, tough as nails and gave you limited movement and resources that you had to make the most of
Sotn is non-linear, it’s one big map, it’s FAR easier and it gives you a ridiculous amount of movement options and items, 90% of which you’re never even gonna use
Story wise the Classics were very simple, Sotn and onwards will try to be more story focused (well relatively speaking) and melodramatic. Some future stories also jump the shark according to some fans but we’ll get to those in the future
Even its artstyle! I love Kojima’s artwork don’t get me wrong, ESPECIALLY her work in this game which I think is her strongest, but I absolutely hate it when people talk about her as if she was the one responsible for creating the series’ visual identity, as if the previous games had no art directions
I know people joke about Conan the Belmont Simon but...that was the series’ artstyle! Gothic, drawing a lot from classic horror but with super macho barbarian men dressed like He Man! We only chuckle at them now because Kojima’s bishonen artsyle replaced them. And no: I am not bitching about “muh yassification of muh manly men” or anything like that, mine is an issue of visual identity: the series literally flipped the switch from one extreme to another
Some poeple may say that at least narrative continuity is kept with the previous entries but that’s not fully true either, as this game retcons Alucard and Dracula’s backstories in order to introduce the stuff with Lisa, when both characters already had a backstory as told by the japanese manual of Castlevania 3! And yeah I do prefer the version introduced in this game, as I feel it creates at the very least more narrative contrast between Alucard and his father, for them to draw their opposite resolves from the same tragic events. But the point is: rather than trying to fit into the established canon, this game’s story forces its way into it by erasing the parts that don’t suit it
For as beloved as this game is, there are quite a few fans who despise it, everything it stands for and everything that followed it, considering it Castlevania in name only, something that killed the actual series and then went around wearing its skin
And honestly?
These people are...not exactly wrong
At least when other series change, even drastically, you can usually tell that their later games are supposed to be part of said series. Yeah Frontiers is a BOTW knockoff, but it still fundementally plays like a boost game, a formula that, while divisive, still derives its most basic idea from the general concept of “hedgehog goes fast and busts up robots” of the first few games. Yeah BOTW has alienated lots of old Zelda fans due to its hyper focus on open world design vs actual dungeons, but at least said open world structure had already been contemplated in a way by the past titles, not to mention many other gameplay mechanics from older games, like lock on and sword fighting, are still being used
If you take away the ability to get hearts from destroyed candles and the classic subweapons that is it. Gameplay wise it’s got nothing else in common with what came before and for that alone I can’t say that the people who hate this game are unjustified, not to mention that it’s got flaws of its own even ignoring any identity issue, though more on that at a later time
I, however, am not one of them
Let me ask you another question: if this game is not Castlevania...then what exactly is it?
Because, to go back to the earlier comparisons, games nowadays (hell ALWAYS if we’re being honest here, remember all the Sonic knockoffs in the 90s?) tend to quite clearly chase trends and you feel it when they’re just chasing trends because they tend to just adopt elements from what is hot and popular at the moment without actually doing anything truly unique with it
I can’t quite say the same about Sotn
Oh sure it quite clearly uses Super Metroid’s design philosophy as an inspiration, and the devs themselves have stated that Zelda was also an influence (and of course Simon’s quest), but it doesn’t just stop at emulating that formula
Keep in mind that back then there was no Metroidvania genre, there weren’t a million indie games taking a crack at the style, there was only Metroid, which had 3 games and wasn’t super popular. That formula had been established by only 3 games and by a generally strict set of features. Sotn was the very first game to look at Metroid’s general design philosophy and decide to do its own spin on it
Because to say that Sotn is just a Super Metroid clone and little else would be untrue I believe, as the two games, despite their similarities, play very differently
Metroid has a greater focus on mobility and acrobatics, on speedrunning and long-distance shoot em up combat
Sotn has rpg mechanics, close quarters combat using swords, spells and features transformations as a way of getting around fast
Yes there are clear similarities but it’s sort of like comparing Mario and Sonic: the latter was very clearly inspired by the former as they both are in the same genre, and since Mario defined platformers as we know them today, it’s inevitable that Sonic would take plenty of cues from him, but to say that Sonic plays the same as Mario just because he adopts those same base gameplay mechanics that the plumber introduced is untrue
Does this mean that it’s unjustified to criticize the game for how different it is? No. What I’m saying is that I don’t believe Sotn to be a simple case of just shamelessly ripping off another series. It has certainly shed its previous identity in an unceremonious way and that is absolutely a problem, but in the process it also created for itself a new identity that, while not for everyone, is absolutely its own and no one else’s, complete with its own set of positives and negatives, just like the Classic games before it (because yes people: Classicvanias also had issues, which is something that I generally don’t see people talk about a lot, probably because the discourse tends to boil down to “old game bad”, but maybe for another time...). If you wanted to play a Metroidvania game back in the 2000s your options were limited to either Metroid or Castlevania, and there were good tangible reasons to play one or the other. There is a reason why Sotn is considered the forefather of the genre alongside Super Metroid: one founded the formula, the other showed that it was flexible. Of course I have to admit that I’m a bit biased, since I already love Metroid’s core formula so Sotn’s style naturally appeals to me, but generally I’m someone who tries to look at the positive aspects of a game, even when it doesn’t necessarily respect its roots, as I believe that if something is good and fun, at least to me and my tastes, then it doesn’t deserve to get thrown in the trash on principle. But I can totally understand those who don’t think themselves, I myself have my limits on this as well
So to answer the question: no Sotn is not a Castlevania game. But it’s also a Castlevania game, just one that is its own thing that is unique
If you ask me most of this issue boils down to Konami deciding to focus exclusively on this formula while completely ignoring the Classics. If they had tried to keep a sort of balance, to release games of both styles in tandem things would have probably been more balanced. But I suppose this just wouldn’t have ever happened in the 2000s, when short level based sidescrollers not named Mario were seen as old news

U have inspired me and I'm trying to be good and wait for the official release to read the new chapters every week but ooooouuuuuiuggghhhhhh I don't know how you do this every week. Hell on earth
all you gotta do is just mute the spoiler tags. I hate leaks so much because it ruins the collective hype we should be getting of the official releases. Not just for One Piece but for any big franchise overall. Pokemon and Legend of Zelda leaks fucking suck, I understand where this impatience comes from but I don't understand why there's no restraint.
I appreciate we get two sources of translation for One Piece but I just wish it didn't have to be because of leaks. You can literally read the new One Piece chapters FOR FREE as well it's not like it's an accessibility thing, I honestly think it's just kind of insulting to the creator that people can't wait like, 4 days max to just get the official release 😭😭 also Japanese artists will just block you on sight if you start posting leaks because waiting for the chapter to officially drop is an event for everyone and leaks ruin the whole thing.
I know it's a big thing to ask (I guess?) but begging everyone to just stop supporting these leakers, like you WILL get to read the chapters it's not like it's being held from you, it simply doesn't benefit anyone.

Perhaps I’m drawing conclusions from nowhere, but re:that last post: I kind of feel like a big part of the problem is that there has to be a “real monster” at all. I feel like a lot of stories that try to be morally ambiguous fall into this trap, where there can be antagonists who are allowed that gray area only if there is some Bigger Bad who it can all be blamed on. There’s something comforting about the idea that there exists some primal evil that you can hate in an uncomplicated way, rather than being forced to sit with a world where everyone is just as capable of kindness as they are monstrosity, and people have agency in their decisions.
Oh, I mean, the phenomenon I think of as Pinata Evil is a widely examined phenomenon but I think while it runs thickly with "humans are the REAL MONSTERS" they are discrete categories.
Pinata Evil is exactly as you say. It is the ideological stance that a particular villain or threat exists for the specific purpose of being the only reason anything is ever bad in a Good Society that wants to make sure all of its wonderful favorite darlings get candy forever.
Is there social inequality? No! Poor people only exist because King Greedmoney wipes his ass with $10,000 every night. Okay, but then should we examine the system that permitted King Greedmoney to exist and get away with it? Should we take action to understand how this happened so we can't let it happen again? NO. the solution is to kill King Greedmoney and then nobody will ever be poor again.
Pinata Evil isn't, I will say, some kind of inherent writing sin. The reason why it is so popular and widespread is because entrenched, complex problems are unsatisfying. Meanwhile, the idea that we could just punch King Greedmoney and everything will be okay, is tempting. Sometimes, to incite the hope that direct action is possible, it is important to assert, through narrative, that it is worth it to stand against evil. And honestly, most evils we face in our personal life will be some sort of personal adversary- it's having to go talk to your scary boss about unionizing or similar.
Pinata Evil is worth pointing out and criticizing, though, because it's like junk food. It tastes great and goes down really really easily and because just about everybody likes it, we often don't think about what goes into it, or if someone is trying to tempt our opinions.
At its worst, the implicit reward of the pinata- all the 'good' that will presumably leak out into the world if we get rid of this ugly bad guy nobody likes- ends up becoming the driving motivation. This is a line I think, for example, Legend of Zelda, falls across far too often for comfort. In Twilight Princess, we're left to question, what was Ganondorf thinking? What was the actual point of almost anything he did? Why did he, or Zant, freeze the Zoras if the nature of the Twilight means none of them could've done anything anyway?
Never mind that! Every time you fix a bad thing you are directly moving towards opposing him because he is the reason all bad things happen.
(we will not examine the actions that contributed to harm he caused when they were done by Good People, like the Sages tossing him into the Twilight Realm that they knew was inhabited, after they'd started shit with him that the twili had nothing to do with)
By the time we reach the end of Twilight Princess, we have worked ourselves into a fervor of frustration and denial. Why did those cute kids and our hometown girlfriend get hurt? Why can't we spend time with Zelda? Why is Midna cursed? It's All Ganondorf's Fault and we hurt Ganondorf until he bursts open and all the good things are given back to us. These actions are fleshed out enough to achieve their result- to get us full of righteous fury.
Ganondorf is not a real person. I am not arguing his innocence or guilt in a court of law, or what is acceptable to punish him. But I think, as a fake person in a fake environment with fake crimes, he is a great no-stakes place to ask critical questions about in what ways the game motivates us to attack him, and how he is positioned to us as a threat.
It is a good thing to examine, for another example, why people felt so betrayed and angry that Steven did not specifically, explicitly, by his own hand, kill the Diamonds, even though the show went into far more detail than many of its type about how to fix the obvious things wrong with this space dystopia. That the terms of the Diamonds' surrender INCLUDE, hey, don't dominate people's lives like this, hey, don't grow people for a purpose they're not allowed to change, hey, stop violently harvesting the life out of planets.
The harm was targeted and addressed. But there was not a pinata broken as a promise that it will be all good from here on out, that someone was responsible for 'all the world's evil' and we destroyed that person so now there's no evil.

@fhulhuse-of-muses sent:
"--for Her Majesty's safety!"
"For goddess' sake, I won't have you eating every one of Princess Zelda's deliveries!"
"But they're from Ganondorf again! Just because one package was safe doesn't mean that the next one will be!"
"That's no excuse to eat a good handful of those chocolates, you greedy toad! If we deem a package safe, then it's our duty to deliver it to Her Majesty. What you're doing is tantamount to stealing mail!"
The two guards argued back and forth until they saw Zelda entering the room. They stood at attention.
"Your Majesty! Good morning! We have another delivery from Ganondorf." The guard snatched the box of treats from the "poison-testing" guard and handed it to her with a respectful bow.
Inside the box was another note:
"There are things that I need to discuss with you, Princess Zelda. Come to the hill at these coordinates alone. I mean no harm in our meeting. That is a promise. -Ganondorf"

Zelda had taken the first note she received to Queen Sonia the morning following its arrival. The Queen met with her privately over a breakfast of hot tea, eggs, fruit, and fresh bread with honey and butter. At first, the older woman seemed mildly amused by the entire ordeal.
“And here I was under the impression that your heart was already spoken for, my dear Zelda.”
“That—“ Zelda felt her cheeks grow warm as she nearly fumbled with her tea. “No, Queen Sonia, you have the wrong impression—I do not intend to truly court Ganondorf, by any means. I merely thought, if I do allow him to pursue me—meet with him, correspond with him—then perhaps I can gain greater insight into what his intentions are with Hyrule.”
“Hm,” Queen Sonia hummed, resting her chin atop her interlaced fingers. “I suppose you still believe him to be a threat…?”
Zelda nodded before trailing her eyes to the table, brows furrowed as she spoke. “I know that King Rauru has already spoken on the matter, but I can not help but feel that something horrible will happen…and if I can stop it, if there is something I may do—“
“Zelda,” the Queen’s slender hand slid across the table to rest over Zelda’s arm. “You carry too much weight on your shoulders. I know,” she continued as Zelda made a move to speak, “that you only want to help…”
She paused then, gaze gentling before she prodded, “Forgive me, but I must ask—have you ever courted anyone before, Zelda? Properly?”
“No.” The answer came honestly as Zelda closed her eyes, “Not…properly.” There had been no time in her endless dedication to training, to her research, to reciting hours of prayer in freezing waters—she did not fall in love through courting.
She fell in love through rain and long travels and stews cooked over an open fire.
She fell in love privately, and while many suspected, no one knew, and when Zelda was finally free to be open about her affections, everyone was gone.
And even then, there was no courting, per se, merely…coming home.
Sonia nodded. “I understand. I will not treat you like a child, Zelda, but…do be careful. Courting is a dangerous game, in so many ways…but it is also a useful tool for precisely this purpose. If you intend to allow Ganondorf to get close to you, I will offer as much protection and guidance as I can…but you will largely be alone. Are you prepared for that…?”
I was alone for 100 years, Zelda wanted to say, while red eyes tore at my soul with more hate than I have ever seen.
Ganondorf could not be worse than that, she thought.
Though his darkness felt familiar and since witnessing him, she had nightmares of those red eyes more and more—
“I will be careful,” Zelda said instead, and when she came across the second note, she kept her word. Took every precaution. Informed her guards just where she would be, and when, and for how long, and to retrieve her should she be delayed.
And she met him, alone, just as he requested.
Red eyes burned in her memory, claws reaching for her beyond their soul-bound cage, promising the death and destruction of everything she loved.
“Good evening, Ganondorf,” Zelda nodded, hands folded before her as slipped into an engrained sense of etiquette that even a century could not erase, “Thank you for your gifts. You are too kind. I trust your time in Hyrule has been well?”

*walks on tiredly, looking like I just had a tussle with a Guardian or a particularly vicious Lynel, pats both Wild's and Hyrule's head over their birthdays, perishes like the Skulltula* Hey there, just passing on by quickly after the new chapter, how you doing?
Also, I came as soon as I heard like holy mother of the Golden Three- I have so many thoughts of the new Player's Aid chapter just, Cloud, you wonderful individual you just slayed me, perfect thing to come back to after a bad week of existence making me want to do it like Time in the Downfall timeline thank you for the food.
Hyrule and Wild being soft and protective of Player? Perfection, it's in the little things like cradling their cheek and holding their hand to keep them close so he won't lose them again because they were one of the few good things left he really had in a ruined world, his ears fluttering at his faith in him which honestly probably means everything for Wild, who feels like he failed everyone in his era and likely failed Player too when they dissapeared at first (goodness I can't imagine how that was, defeating The Calamity or Ganon, reuniting with Zelda and then Player just, being gone? I have a feeling the boys didn't cope well), and Player shielding Rulie from the Ache's sight even if it won't do much? And the immediate understanding and knowing of Hyrule Castle both Player and Wild even if not quite for the same reasons? Wind being a shit and Player biting back? Player's faith in Time? Perfection, I adore those little details because it really illustrates how as much as the heroes need and want their guide around, so does Player want and need them around.
Also Player's thoughts are very valid and realistic and I love them for it, if you're not used to gore in any way or with rough injuries you're not going to cope well in an environment like Hyrule at all for a while, something tells me there's going to be a lot of ongoing trauma to deal with (or repress) when Player actually learns how to fight with a weapon (because I can't see the boys not teaching them how to handle at least a bow or a dagger after this) and inevitably has to kill a monster, or heck even a monster disguised as a human or a Yigah Clan member since those guys are people, even if in self defense.
Also the horror enthusiastic in me adored the whole build up with the Ache, sure it's an obvious trope, specially if you're one for playing games or watching literally any media ever, but it was still really great between the description of the Skulltulas (ten out of ten, would kill with fire again because even if I don't hate spiders any that eats flesh can meet my old buddy: the homemade flamethrower) and the sheer body horror of the transformation, Zelda has plenty of horror elements when you really dig into it and I always adore when someone makes use of it, I called it the second Player describes Maggie (because they look too average and usually that's a red flag when it comes to lone adventurers, because if they weren't alone before then were are the remains of the others? Plus somehow it feels in character that a disguised Dink or his subordinates as shapeshifters would pick forms with dark features) and the reveal really broke that amazing build up of tension, because there's nothing worse than knowing there's something wrong, knowing it's a trap, and still having to walk into it.
Dink's reveal was also masterful, although yeesh that's really building up a theme with Player having awful luck with teleportation huh? Between the Yandere's and the Mess Au and Koridai and Courage and likely Mecha too and if they meet First at sone point we can also add that to it, and also Satori Mountains, Craein sends their solidarity from the Ancient Au (Player 🤝 Craein : Really bad luck with teleportation and it's mostly Dink's fault), someone give them a lucky charm or something, wait, now that I think of it Twilight tracking people by scent was a whole thing in his game, get to memorizing man! That or maybe Wild can since they're half Sheikah Tech now? I dunno, I'm just guessing and likely getting off topic because I'm sleep deprived and excited (also I have a feeling that the hand reaching for theirs was likely Wild or Hyrule, and that's gotta be rough on them who remember Player and now have to cope with losing them twice, that and all of the Links have trauma with losing or failing people, so seeing someone that even if they don't fully trust but feels familiar in the back of their mind and whom they've sworn to protect because they can't fight is probably going to smack all of the boys on the face with a fish). The prickling feeling of unease, like being watched by a predator when you're acutely aware you're prey and vulnerable one at that? Dink is looking at you ?! Looking at all angles and even above only for him to drag them below? The claws? (not quite human featured Dink and the Uncanny Valley of it my beloathed- {affectionate but also wanting to hit with a brick}, the sheer drama and theatrics of it? Such good food, it clearly shows how he's a really wrong, tainted Entity, like a stain or sickness in reality itself and I eat that up, it really drives home how inhuman he is and I love it, that was great even if I'm really concerned for Player because welp, that just proves Dink is very aware they're the Guide {the Guide's current iteration? I've been thinking about it a lot, because Player is one of the many people in the Zelda fandom who played the games, and you already said how it works when the games are replayed, so maybe there's a lot of candidates, but our Player is the one the most like the Guide or they're an iteration like how all the Links are iterations of each other/the Hero's Spirit?}, Can't imagine he wants anything good with them in any way, specially depending on how much information he has.
Anyway, that's all for now, I'll be back on the semi regularly scheduled Lora and Ancient Au trio plus Ancient Player/Craein content and thoughts at another time since I'm tired, thank you for the great update and have a nice day!
-Signed, Just a Tired Summertime Musician.
HI SUM I'M GLAD YOU ENJOYED THE RECENT CHAPTER! Took me long enough to get it out OIUBFOEIU
I hope you're feeling much better! I understand hard weeks but I'm here if ya need me!
I'm glad you like the littlest details I do try my best! The same with the realism in the scenes! We love a joke here and there but reality is reality and at the end of the day seeing blood and guts, even from a monster is still at the end a very disturbing sight to see!
Gonna love writing the trauma that follows with Player having to kill something for the first time!
I'm also glad you liked the Ache build up! Wanted the trope to be there as a kind of reminder that Player's a bit more self aware than a lot of people around them, even if the Chain did know that it was a trap Player still has that critical thinking by their side! (I also want to eventually tie it to Guide properties but I still need to build on that, ya know?)
I'm also a huge horror fan myself so expect more horror elements in the future! Hopefully if I write it well the next chapter is gonna have them
We gotta love Dink and Uncanny Valley (Please someone with artistic skill draw some Uncaanny valley shadow boyo I will pay in life force) I really enjoy writing his scene because I just can't wait for what's following! :D Probably first introduction to the true abilities of the Guide ;)
See you around babes!

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to! Honestly, it means so much that people take time out of their day to let me know their thoughts/reactions to my stuff. I love the interaction, and I've shared this story before, but it was @embyrinitalics outreaching to let me know she enjoyed the killing moon (which had been on hiatus for YEARS) that help spring-boarded me into creativity again. A lot of these comments keep me motivated and energized, so I want to let people know I pay attention and care.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
LOL this is hard. Angst is my jam.
I'm tempted to say the Killing Moon but probably almost beautiful? It's the death memory from botw and it's a oneshot without any resolution whatsoever.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
This is a tie between begin again and desire path.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I've gotten some coldish comments, but not direct hate. I don't understand it. If you don't like something, just move on by? It's free content. It literally takes so much more of your previous energy to generate hate. Put it somewhere else. Find something else you actually like and pour love into that. Or as my kid's favorite book right bow Teeth are not for biting (send help) says "Try this instead: take a break, drink a cold drink, take a rest, get a hug!"
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I have written ONE smut fit. I was possessed by an idea. It is not my wheelhouse for sure. It was porn with plotish and I had more fun with the dialogue between the side characters than the actual sexy stuff. And I'm me, so it was sexy yet depressing LOL
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I wrote a FFX x BotW oneshot a few years ago that I actually took off my ao3.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I am aware of!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I am aware of!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but I feel like this would be fun with the right idea. I really like doing collabs for events.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
Zelink!
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I'm a little worried about currents. I love the idea in my head, but its very VERY specific writing and of course I started it right before linktober and now my brain is all about the depths au. It's hard for me to switch gears.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I love a good turn of phrase, man.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I get BIG ideas and a lot of them and a lot of the time, I get lost in them. This happened in The Killing Moon. Of course, it was my first stab at fanfiction and I decided to write a massive multichapter monster, and perhaps, that is evidence enough for you, but I had so many ideas for the story/conflict/direction and I didn't spend enough time organizing it and weeding out what I don't need. I think it translated okay because of the mystery leading up to TotK and the fact I was working with characters that were trying to make sense of lost, incomplete, and inconsistently reported history over 10,000 but
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I think the most important question a writer can ask themselves when doing this in a fic is "why am I doing this?" And then close follow up to that is "how can I do this correctly and respectfully?"
19. First fandom you wrote for?
LoZ
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
I really, really love like someone would. I love the complex characterization of Link and have carried it forward into other pieces. It's one big love letter to botw side quests and zelink and was also written in tribute to two of my favorite fanfiction pieces by others.

Creations AU FNAF 4, But I obnoxiously over explain it PT 1
Pages 0-29
Holy shit remember when I said there were "Side comics"
Lmfao yeah they go more in depth.
We're starting with FNAF 4 because as of rn it's the first in the timeline of comics I've made. SL will be next and imo has the shittiest art because I was hurting myself with every page of that damn thing.
Content warnings I guess: bad things happen to fictional kids because this is fnaf lmfao.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I forgot wtf the faded words say but I'm pretty sure they're all written from William except one which is from Josh. Fuck if I remember which tho XDDDDDD
They're all talking vaguely about the incident.
So I'm going off the bold assumption you've seen the over explains for the main AU and will be talking about FNAF 4 from that perspective: Honestly the biggest hurdles in the Creations AU over explained is just how much I dump about the games, the AU as a whole, spoilers what to AVOID spoiling ex.
(Like...What I FEEL should be common knowledge I sometimes say, but then I realized: Holy fuck most of my current tumblr followers are ZELDA people who might just be reading cause they like my stuff in general and have ZERO Fnaf knowledge lmfao I'm very sorry if I don't always communicate things from the games specifically well.)
If you're here from the Creations AU MAIN comic over explained:
We are all to aware Elizabeth is dead and Cody has SEEN said incident, which gives a lot of insight into his character going forward in this comic.
This is based on the fan theory crying child saw Elizabeth die. I honestly dunno how much merit that actually has in CANNON but it's a fun story idea for Creations at least lol.
Circus Baby, the animatronic pictured was the one that did the deed.
Tumblr media
So funny story: I actually like Josh as a character MORE after drawing FNAF 4 X'D and I will get into why. He's been the butt of the "I hate this character" joke for a long time but now the script has flipped because I actually like him a lot from a character standpoint but the audience couldn't stand his ass. (Reasonably he's awful lmfao) I didn't HATE him in SL I mostly hyped up how much I "Disliked" him If I hated him, I wouldn't draw him lmfao but I find he's 100xs more interesting as a person in FNAF 4 because he's WAY more flawed and his vulnerabilities are on full ass display here.
So dialogue wise: Josh goes on an absolute anger filled tirade on Cody merely taking a look into his presumed dead sister's room.
Their mother is out of the house under false pretenses, and beats Josh. She doesn't do this to Cody apparently which is clearly causing resentment. We can already make some assumptions about Josh's behavior due to his mother's abuse. Being, he repeats said cycle of abuse onto his younger brother.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's a bad person lmfao and I won't justify his shit but I can completely understand why he's acting this way. Bro should not be in this situation.
William's "Checked out". Presumably not emotionally available or even physically considering Josh is looking after his brother.
He's being FORCED to basically parent his younger sibling who he dislikes STRONGLY, which uh. Makes older siblings carry a LOT of baggage later in life and in the moment is clearly doing NO ONE favors. He's also VERY CLEARLY not emotionally capable of dealing with a child. Which is just irresponsible as hell on his parents ends. That is a recipe for a complete trainwreck as we will very soon see.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh. The bear talks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hide and seek with high stakes. I got nothing much to say about the scenes directly tied/based to the minigames as they mostly speak for themselves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Josh is a dick, that's evident.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of yall might not like it but I'm going on both Josh and Cody's perspectives here lmao. Deal with it
I would also lose my patience with a screaming child throwing an absolute tantrum. But on Cody's end, I wouldn't wanna go to Freddy's/Fredbear's either considering HE SAW HIS SISTER DIE THERE.
Josh's reasoning for bringing Cody makes sense though: Their dad is here and he can spend time with his friends. Josh's friend Lucas points out they're technically "Banned" from Freddy's. And she's cheating. According to Josh. Which just makes her leaving her son with his abusive older brother to cheat even more insulting/disgusting. Oliver Blondie with the green shirt is disturbed by Josh trauma dumping lmao. Richard cracks jokes about Josh's mom's affairs. Josh like Michael and William are British which Richard not so elegantly makes fun of. You'll notice a significant LACK of Michael here. More details: All four of these boys indulge in bad habits. Like smoking.
I WONDER WHY. Sarcasm aside, it's almost like abusing your kids results in them lashing out in horrible ways, mostly self destructive...
As we know Richard's dad is a freak who sleeps with married women and Josh's mother's known for infidelity. And all four smoke except Lucas apparently.
The "Josh you of all people would know I don't smoke" line is a play on the fact they're in a relationship and kiss, because Lucas and Josh's relationship is not subtle at all.
I find it amusing they all blame each other for Richard's stolen cigarettes as it's clear Josh and Oliver are behind it but MOSTLY Josh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, he did the bare minimum of leaving him in a place he THINKS is safe, with a way to get back to the house?
Josh this is still shitty as hell. X'D
Lucas continues to be the only one in this friend group with a brain, also I do like how he nags his boyfriend and his shitty parenting choices for his brother lmfao.
He won't DO anything about it but he'll point it out.
Tumblr media
Fredbear we can see this.
Tumblr media
HAH SCARY.
Tumblr media
Haha trauma.
Tumblr media
Not now son Daddy's helping people into fur suits.
Tumblr media
Yeah closing the door doesn't help this situation. Poor kiddo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My bro wanted him to fall lmao. That would have been funny but nah.
Josh is playing on a 3DS because it's funny.
He at least fed his brother. Bare minimum parenting there buddy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not Josh getting annoyed because Cody says something scary he didn't personally tell him. X'D
He gives a half hearted attempt at advice...? Comfort? idk what you'd call that lmao.
And okay fr from Josh's perspective his brother is just acting like a ungrateful cowardly brat. X'D That doesn't make what he does right but like: Would YOU Believe him if he told you he "Saw" someone get eaten by a robot lmfao????
Children lie or misunderstand things. And Josh is old enough to know how these things work. He knows they're people in costumes or just lifeless things on the stage. Or at least they're SUPOSED to be.
Josh amusingly telling Cody he can walk is funny when you think he carried him TO Fredbear's last time.
Because Josh is a dick.
I don't have a lot to say about Cody's behavior because it's self explanatory. He saw his sister die here, his fear is justified and has an obvious reason. He's failed by the people around him ESPECIALLY his parents.
Tumblr media
This is just more NPC dialogue in the minigames. Not much to say.

For autism awareness month, I’ll be talking about my autism. I have a complicated relationship with it. I’ll readily admit that it’s my autism that makes me a bit too much of a Zelda fan, a bit too much of a Pokémon fan, etc.. Whenever I get into a new thing, I go in neck deep and it consumes my thoughts. On the one hand, I get to micro analyze the thing and appreciate it for all its worth. On the other, I sometimes wish I could just like multiple things at once and give me other things to talk about when I’m with my friends, instead of turning to the internet and ranting into the void. I created this blog almost six years ago because at the time I only had one friend who also liked Zelda, and I knew it would be cruel to unload all my autistic Zelda ramblings on him. Same reason I made the Pokémon side blog.
Effective communication does not come easily for me. I’m sometimes unaware of the tone I’m speaking in, and I have very poor control over my facial expressions. Basically I can’t hide my emotions for shit, which can be bad in some scenarios. I miss some nonverbal cues. On the flip side, this has made me work incredibly hard to become an effective communicator. I know that if things are left unsaid, they may go uncommunicated. I know to say what I mean and clarify everything that needs to be. I hate that I over analyze everything I say and hear said to me, but oh well.
As a white, cishet man, I need to be aware of the power dynamics in my relationships. I need to be cognizant of the ways my words and actions can be perceived differently by women, minorities, and other people with whom there is some imbalance of power. I think this is how all people in my position should approach things, but for me and my autism, this is especially difficult. So I verbally acknowledge it with the person so they know I’m trying.
For example, a good friend of mine used to only know me as the author of Oops! All Links. He looked up to me as a writer and put me on a pedestal, which I understand and is completely natural as a parasocial relationship. He is also seven whole years younger than me. At the time, I was 21 and he was 14. When we started to DM and actually become friends, I told him explicitly that I recognized the power imbalance in our friendship, and he should feel absolutely no obligation to do anything that I say or ask of him, and to also tell me immediately if something I say or do makes him uncomfortable. I never had and still never do have any ill intent in this friendship, but the last thing I want is to unintentionally take advantage of him.
Sometimes, I wish things could be different. Compounded with my bipolar disorder and ADHD, my autism makes my life harder. My brain is crosswired and I need to work harder to achieve the things that I want than do neurotypical people. Getting through college has been an ordeal and it’s honestly a miracle that I’m almost finished with it. If I could do away with just the ways my autism my life worse, I would in a heartbeat.
My autism also makes me who I am, though. It defines my personality and the way I interact with the world. I wouldn’t be such an effective verbal communicator, I wouldn’t have the same passions, and I wouldn’t have the same relationships. It’s part of what makes me,,, me. And ya know what? I like me.
I still hate some things about myself. I hate the ways that my disabilities and disorders make my life harder. I sometimes wish I could just whisk it all away so I don’t have to struggle like I do. But there are some good things that come along with it. If I got to choose whether to get rid of the autism and everything it entails… I don’t know. I just don’t know if I would. But I don’t have that choice. For better or for worse, reality has already made the decision for me.

LoZ: TotK - Discussing Zelda Hate
I'mma level with ya'll. I've seen some really dumb takes regarding Zelda hate.
People be complaining & getting so vitriolic about how the house that Link bought last game is now being called "Zelda's house" by the Hateno residents in TotK & dude...
First off, Zelda herself never says that it's "her house," that's all the Hateno residents except in a journal in the English version. And even then, in the original Japanese, she says "the house." (And I'm convinced that the English writers only did that to prevent shipping.) So, why aim all that hate at Zelda? Besides, where do these jerks expect her to live with the castle in such a state of disrepair?
Second of all, Link & Zelda are living together. At least, that's what's implied.
For one, the fact that Zelda needed a secret room means that someone else was living in the house with her or, at the very least, was there frequently enough that she felt she needed her own space. Even in the English version, she comments that Link is "always at her side..." There's also the fact that when Symin sees Link again, his reaction is "you're back." As though Link lived there & had returned home. This plus the fact that Link seemingly gets to vote in Hateno's mayoral election implies that he's a resident of the town.
I also read somewhere that Nintendo was going to put a double bed in the Hateno House, but changed it when parents got all up in arms over it. (Though, this one is just a rumor.)
Even Zelda's va says they're in a relationship. Which, I know, that's just 1 va & thus doesn't confirm anything. But it does lend credence to the idea.
I get it, this is all just implications. But the thing is, Nintendo can really only imply relationships with the main character to begin with.
It's why Mareach still isn't a thing, but Ludaisy is somewhat canon, at least in the Mario Party games based off their team-up names. Because Luigi & Daisy aren't the focus characters & thus have more freedom.
The same can be said for Zelink.
What I don't understand is why people are so against the idea of Zelink being possibly canon. Like, Zelink being canon wouldn't stop you from being able to headcanon & ship something else!
And I can't help but think that Link has to stay single in the games so that manic shippers don't get butthurt. Which sucks!
And, honestly, even if they weren't together, you really think that Zelda would be the sort of person to just move into the man's house, take it over, & kick him out?? She's likely been raised on etiquette & manners & taking a man's house is very much not princess behavior. And, no, you shouldn't just hate her completely based on how she acted towards Link at the beginning of BotW's flashbacks. Things change. Very specifically, her views on Link changed. She's not a bitch to him anymore, so please, stop pretending that she's the same as she was then.
It's more likely that Link gave the house to her. Which, I still don't believe, but it's the more likely option when compared to Zelda just outright being a house theif.
Edit: I was recently told that Zelda refers to the house in Hateno as "her house," but then learned that this was only in the English version. In Japanese, she calls it "the house" & not "my house." And her very last line at the end of the game in both versions are along the lines of "Link, I'm home."
So, while not a confirmation, it certainly doesn't debunk it.
---
The big thing is, if they didn't want there to be any shippy implications then it would've been pathetically easy to just give her a different house & be done with it.
Instead, they chose to very specifically make it known that Zelda specifically lives in the exact same house that Link canonically buys in the last game & helps build up with his own rupees & resources.
Then, they specifically, make it canon that Link got Hudson & Rhondson together & helped build Terry Town, which is specifically something you cannot do unless you purchase the Hateno House!
They also specify that Link is "always by Zelda's side." That the house has 2 place settings but only 1 bed.
Then, at Terry Town, Link is able to purchase a Dreamhouse, which is specifically advertised to be for families. And the dining table specifically has 4 place settings. Which suggests some things.
And whenever someone asks if Link has someone he loves, his reaction is one of bashfulness! Or to confirm!
They knew what they were doing. They chose to make it look this way. It was intentional.
Let's face it, they're common law married, ya'll.
Link's lowkey King of Hyrule & nobody knows it, which is hilarious!
