prince aventurine - no, just aventurine, as he's insisted on you calling him - is awfully intimidating.

not in size or anything, no. you've seen a good handful of soldiers taller and gentler than he. but he's powerful, wealthy, and handsome besides, the way a doll might be.

and for reason, he's set his eye on you. hailing from a small kingdom with not many natural resources to call your own, your family has found themselves in increasingly dire straits. pressure from neighbouring kingdoms pressing in on your borders, the coffers running low - as if angels from heaven, the avgins swoop in at this crucial time and extend a benevolent hand out to you.

of course, you're not naive enough to think of this as a miracle. he's at that age where the avgins are expecting a princess, and your kingdom needs money and help. you're eternally grateful to them for entertaining your letters, eventually deciding to bring you over to their kingdom so you can get acclimatised. the wedding hasn't been confirmed yet, but you're hopeful.

but once you get there, you do feel a slight sense of... confusion. the very floors echo of money, marble inlaid with the most delicate gold. and they were saying they needed... you? an uninteresting princess from an uninteresting kingdom? surely he could have found better options elsewhere.

aventurine hushes your worries in the snap of a finger, however. he's so polite and considerate, not to mention sensitive to your emotions. he always seems to know exactly what you're thinking, and he always has the right thing to say.

"don't worry yourself," he tells you one evening after dinner, your arm looped through his as you take a stroll through the gardens. "i wouldn't choose any other princess over you."

you look at him, surprised. "how did you know i was thinking that?"

he just smiles and kisses you lightly on the top of the head.

little do you know that he makes it a habit to check your journal after you've gone to bed. castles have their secret doors and passages, after all, and so does yours, a passage connecting directly from yours to his.

he slips in after you've fallen asleep, pinching it from where you've left it unsecured in your drawer, and reads the day's entry like he's reading the daily paper.

he's careful, of course. he wears gloves so he leaves no trace, but sometimes he can't help pressing his nose to the pages. it smells like the ink you use and your perfume. he hopes you can get married soon so he can have your scent around him always.

The yan Aventurine and smart wild card darling is the visualization of two geniuses playing 4d chess. And no one can convince me otherwise because as you said, one simple mistake means bye-bye to your autonomy.

Hmmm to add to the toxicity (?), darling occasionally "rewarding" Aventurine maybe? That type of darling seems to not exactly reject his touch, hence giving him the eternal cuddle body title but it's definitely different if his darling is the one who initiates touch first.

Let's add even more toxicity! Maybe darling rewarding Aventurine when his schemes are better than before or is viewed as more creative. Like giving him a kiss! It's a reward, but at the same time it has a condescending undertone because it's given to Aventurine even if the scheme is evaded by darling. It's like darling knows that he will fail yet gives him extra points for trying or for creating an entertaining scheme.

I had a thought! In my eyes Aventurine is a fox-like yandere, someone who uses trickery to trap his darling and is constantly portrayed that way.

So I think an interesting dynamic is a smart darling who knows what he's doing and is more than capable of stopping him, yet lets him know that she knows what he's doing and doesn't even try to stop it unless she's directly harmed.

Aventurine constantly deals with risks and unpredictability, but his darling is someone hard to read.

aventurine doesn't quite get you. any normal, sane person would stay away from him... report him to the authorities, even. (though nothing would come of it.)

is it arrogance that keeps letting him come back? foolishness? simple insanity? whatever it is, he doesn't care because he's grateful for it. it makes his job a lot easier when you're not struggling to get away from him, and a lot more interesting.

Me? Big brain? No you. I kind of expanded your thoughts too, so Aventurine's perspective of this "relationship".

Pros of the toxic yet somehow un-abusive "relationship" with Aventurine:

•Darling gives him mostly positive attention, also constant attention because in order to know how someone thinks, you observe them!

•Darling doesn't exactly reject him, especially since he's bullied by Sparkle and Ratio

•The fact that darling knows him waay to well means he takes up space in darling's mind.

Cons:

•The literal definition of so close yet so far because darling's close enough to him but someone he can't exactly grasp.

•He uses probability in gambling, yet his darling is a total wild card. So he can't exactly predict what his darling is going to do. He can't even calculate the probability of the relationship going nowhere or if they'll end up in a committed relationship.

these two together are a menace i fear.

ayato is the pretends-to-be-nice type and thoma has to pretend to be mean. even though we all know he isn't.

ayato is the most gracious gentleman on a date, offering his arm for you to hold, carrying you over mud puddles so your shoes don't get dirty... and then there thoma is struggling along behind both of you holding all your things (ayato bought them.)

it's no secret that thoma is the only male presence ayato can stand any more, especially when you're around. glares, scowls, the whole shazam, ayato does not care that he has a reputation to upkeep, leaving thoma to sooth bruised egos and repair whatever damage he can in ayato's wake.

thoma's a natural at being sweet - well, because he is. despite his overt grace, ayato's high standing and extravagant gestures are more off-putting than anything. he's more intense than he realises. so you gravitate towards thoma, finding a breather in his easygoing smiles, making ayato's company more bearable.

but all roads lead to rome, as they say. no matter which one you end up choosing, you'll still find yourself locked up eventually within the kamisato compound, with movement limited to a measly few rooms. thoma comes by often to take care of you, and ayato's gifts come by when he can't, but a gilded birdcage is still a birdcage nonetheless.

The horrible thing has the nerve to laugh at you as you trip over thin air for the tenth time that morning. You had only been awake for three hours. You huff and storm off - at least try to, until you trip on your untied shoelaces. He's there in an instant, catching you by the waist and hauling you back on your feet. He's still laughing, but at least now he's within range of physical damage.

Lunae

You can't tell if this is just how he is, but Heng stays as close to you as physically possible whenever he can - which is to say, always. He always has a hand resting on your person or his tail, as if that helps in any way with your balance. If anything, he might be impeding it... you've tripped over him about as many times as you've tripped over nothing.

Blade

He knows you're clumsy, and that you trip and fall a lot. He's seen the bruises and scrapes, but honestly... he just thinks they're pretty. He doesn't care too much for your falls when he's not around; you do seem accustomed to them already. But he will catch you when he's around, out of reflex if nothing else.

Jing Yuan

A gentleman as always, Yuan will be there to catch whenever you're around each other (read: always. He totes you around like an assistant, be it during inspections or in his office.) But you're so cute, he can never help but chuckle a little, which only serves to embarrass you further.

Since darling is mentioned to platonically bond with other Stellaron Hunters via physical touch, imagine Blade's darling enjoying physical touch from others too, like Silverwolf putting her head on reader's shoulder or receiving headpats from Kafka. So Blade thought that it's a good idea to initiate physical touch.

Wrong, you're absolutely terrified. You look like a cat who is 0.01 second away from getting an injection. Now you're the cat!

the first time blade brings you to meet the other stellaron hunters, he's shocked by how well you all hit it off. horrified, even. the way kafka slings her arm casually around your shoulders or ruffles your hair, and you give her a bright smile in return? how come he's never gotten a smile like that before?

he figures it's because he's never touched you before - you always keep such a distance from him that it never crossed his mind anyway. so he tries, standing close to you or taking the seat next to you... except you don't know he's there, and you always end up getting startled.

but no matter. you've started getting used to blade popping up around you at inopportune times, even managing to quell your own surprise a handful of times, so he figures you're ready for it.

it's dinnertime, and silver wolf is sitting with her knees tucked up to her chest, gaming to the last second. kafka ordered takeout, and asked (coerced) blade into helping her set the table.

when he walks past, he pats you the head, and not gently either.

you freeze up so much he thinks he might have paralysed you. this scene is endlessly hilarious to silver wolf, who pauses her gaming to cackle so hard at blade she loses her breath.

I'm still unsure if he'll isolate you THAT much because there's a chance that he'll let you talk to Stelle and March because they're like siblings to him while Dan Feng only lets your etiquette tutors talk to you. But Dan Heng still has a time division between you and him and you with Stelle and March.

jokes aside i honestly love the concept of etiquette teachers (in the yan context, i'm sorry i couldn't even begin to walk with books on my head). there's a different sort of control these yans have over you - not just forceful restriction of your interactions with people and where you're allowed to go, but also something more passive and sinister, depending on how you see it. do they really love you for you if they insist you have to act a certain way? or are you just a poor vessel through which they channel their delusions?

heng is more tolerable. barely. he allows you wander around, letting you speak to others freely, but hovers over your shoulder watching your every move like an owl, radiating a threatening energy. it eventually gets so uncomfortable for the others to be around you that he ends up isolating you anyway.

Can I request the chain's thought process on them realizing that they have a crush on the player, cause you know they all take differently some better than others.

Time - A little sceptical of himself first because he hasn't cared for anyone like that in a long time but once he does properly acknowledge it he has to make a tough decision to admit it to Player or keep it to himself because they will eventually have to return home Twilight - Similar to Time but he's more reluctant because he already fell in love with someone not from his world who eventually left, he would be scared to go through the same thing with Player and may distance himself to keep himself at peace Warriors - Is unsure how to proceed because he's never actually liked someone before (at least in my head he hasn't) and he's trying to process it, meanwhile is awkward around Player because he's got no idea how to react around them Sky - Man acknowledges it straight away and tries to decide what course of action he needs to take, is actually the most reasonable out of them all and he's probably be the first to confess too- all sweet and romantic about it Legend - DENIAL IS A RIVER IN EGYPT- this man would refuse to believe that he didn't not hate them let out that he had a crush on Player.
