The apathy in minding our own business.

Saw this tiktok social experiment where a woman pretends to be suffering from menstrual cramps and none of the people around bothered to help or even ask if she's okay. I was actually expecting for disappointed comments but it seems that viewers justify the people's apathy.

Some said that it's a big city where strangers could rob, trick, hurt, or take advantage of your concern so if they were there, they might have done the same, just pass by. I do understand this point, it's definitely reasonable and safe. In fact, helping the woman is their choice, it's not wrong if they wouldn't do it but it would just be a question of morals. But in my opinion, maybe I could've at least ask the woman if she's okay while keeping some space between us and if ever I need to go near, maybe I would keep my things secured and observe her carefully if she seems sketchy or maybe call some other people to help so I'm not alone. Again, with this reason, it is completely understandable if you're just making sure of your safety.

However, what bothers me in the comments is that some said they're just minding their own business and that's the reality of life. That they would have done the same. That we should just be able to take care of our own situations. It's disappointing to read such sentiments that it imposes an idea that we should take apathy as a norm. If more people starts thinking the same, I think that's the time where we fail as humans and members of society. To care is an essential component for communities as a social structure. We can't stay still when people in front of us are suffering. Be a voice. Take action. Helping one person might not make much of a difference to the world but to that person, it might've made a lot.

Good karma will find its way back to you.

We should love each other all the time, and we should be reliable and try to help during difficult times!!!

This is Petey. She is my best friend. She has gotten me through so much adversity. Her love is unconditional, she's loyal, she's honest. She instinctively knows what to do and what I need. How can people say that we are the most evolved life on this planet when we can't be taught to do what dogs always know to do, instinctively. They help, they do the right thing, they are not selfish, although, when it comes to food and sex it's every dog for themselves. But they stick to those guidelines and are very dependable. They are brilliant. I know of many support animals and not as many support humans, which is sad. The world would be in much better shape if we followed the example set by dogs and other animals. We need to stop "advancing" and take a step back to reevaluate what we are doing and where we should go. Dogs don't need an upgrade. They're perfect as they are. Many things in this world are fine just as they are, but we keep asking for bigger, better, faster things that we don't need. When will be be satisfied? What will it take? We have most everything we could possibly need so we should learn to be happy and satisfied with what we have. Like a dog with a good bone. We need to chill out and enjoy where we are and what we have and help each other to be okay so they can enjoy it too. How much more money does a billionaire need before he will spend a great deal of that money helping others? I think feeding, clothing, and housing people is more important than a summer villa or a fast car, don't you? It should be mandatory for people to help others. Not by law, but by a moral code that we should all embrace. Don't people realize that it's hard to find a job when you pass out from hunger? Let's be like dogs and take care of each other. Or maybe, just maybe, we can act like the evolved creatures that we claim to be and find a way to do better than dogs at helping people. That's a tough ask, but I bet if we really try, we can do it. Whaddaya think? 🤔
