 Sexuality Headcanon:

Personally I hc him as gay not only because I don’t think he would have any interest in women but also why would you subject a woman to dating Mikoto Suoh / lh.

Gender Headcanon:

I’ve always been under the impression that he’s trans masc. I can’t explain why but he has that vibe to me. I feel like while he wouldn’t care about the particulars, he’s definetly not cis. There is no way I could personally look at a character like that who’s whole thing is not wanting to be caged in by society and ever think he’s cis but that’s my personal preference.

A ship I have with said character:

Mikototsu lives in my heart forever. I think they’re basically married. That being said, one sided Mikorei with Munakata pining and Mikoto grimacing at him is very appealing, extremely funny, and very real.

A BROTP I have with said character:

Him and Kusanagi definetly. I don’t think I need to explain this one.

A NOTP I have with said character:

I’ve accidentally come across the horror that is Mikoto and Anna as a pairing and every time it has happened, I have wanted to rinse my eyes out with bleach.

A random headcanon:

Usually I put music taste headcanons for this one but I honestly can’t think of any right now so I’m going to go with the headcanon that one year for his birthday, Totsuka made him a really deformed but colorful ashtray as a result of time spent pursuing hobbies and Mikoto has never once emptied it out so there’s just this ever growing hubristic tower of cigarettes on his night stand.

General Opinion over said character:

Oh man I am trying to condense my thoughts on him so they aren’t as long. 

Narrative wise I think the purpose he serves and the themes that he represents are incredibly fascinating to analyze over and over again. He’s a character rife with tragedy who is essentially dead from the moment he appears on the screen whether the audience knows it or not. 

He spends a lifetime essentially trying to repress his darker urges which is ironic considering that giving into those darker urges is how he becomes the red king in the first place. His general demeanor masks an extremely self destructive aspect of him that essentially drives him to his own death and that chain of events is triggered by Totsuka’s death.

He’s a character that all and all feels caged not only by social constraints or by the horror of the fate of the previous king but also in a way by himself. The idea that his attempts at curbing his self destructive nature ultimately fail is endlessly interesting to me. I will eventually write a more coherent meta on him when I have more time but this is just my general opinion on him.

~~HTTYD Character Sexuality Headcanons~~

I've seen a few people headcanon the gang's sexualities already, and I wanted to give it a shot. A few of these are definitely influenced by/pulled from other people's headcanon lists. This list is obviously not meant to upset anybody, and if you disagree, I'd love to hear them. At the end of the day, this is all speculation and nothing is canon. I really hope people interact with this bc it took a long time

Hiccup

I have seen Hiccup headcanoned as bi and pan before, but I personally think he's straight. I haven't noticed any sort of romantic/sexual chemistry between him and any other male characters, and it hasn't seemed like any of the writers or animators was leaning in that direction when they did any of the scenes. I have, however seen him headcanoned as trans (ftm), which I definetly like for him. I think that it would at the very least fit into his narrative and character arcs well, and I just really. like it.

2. Astrid

Bi. Definitely bi. She obviously canonically falls for Hiccup, and you could make a pretty good argument for her flirting with Heather/having some feelings for Heather in "Have Dragon Will Travel" P1 and 2 at least. Seeing as outside of Hiccup we don't see her explicitly catch feelings for anyone, whether she has a preference towards men or women is really up in the air, but I see her landing somewhere in the middle.

3. Snotlout

Most people think of Snotlout as bi, and I think that that is a perfectly valid headcanon for him. I think that it fits well, and do like it. I would, however, argue that he very well might be gay. I can go into further detail on that later, but to break it down, the women he flirts with he obviously has very little (Astrid) to no chance (Valka) of getting together with. He clearly idolizes many male characters and puts them up on a pedastal. (Thor, Dagur, etc.) A lot of the flirting with women could very well be chalked up to internalized homophobia. It could really go either way though.

4. Fishlegs

Bi or pan. We see several romances touched on between Fishlegs and different female characters, and, obviously, nothing is explicitly done between Fishlegs and a man. I will, however, defend to my DYING day that Fishlegs and Snotlout have SOMETHING. You can really see it in Return of Thor Bonecrusher. I think that's when I was completely sold. In conclusion, I hc Fishlegs as either bi or pan, with a preference leaning towards women.

5. Ruffnut

I see Ruffnut as bisexual. Once again, we only really see Ruff 'flirt' with male characters, but if you pay attention to her language around the Wing Maidens in all of the Wing Maiden episodes and the way she goes up to/talks to Heather in "Have Dragon Will Travel" (part 1 or 2 idk which one), I'd say she's definitely into women to some extent. I would be inclined to headcanon her as a Lesbian, but seeing as she has her whole thing with Eret and she gets together with Fishlegs in the end, I guess that's not canon. (My heart still says Lesbian though) Heather isn't exactly on this list but my hc for her is basically the same. If they didn't shove her into very lazy het romances to give her character a romantic subplot, I would be inclined to say she was a lesbian)

6. Tuffnut

Aromantic asexual DEFINETLY. This one is very special to me I just love it so much. It just works so well in my head. I don't necessarily have any reasons, and in canon he even says that he wants to settle down with 'a beautiful viking girl and have a family someday' or smth like that. He also tells Snotlout to 'hold onto something else' because he doesn't want the Wing Maidens to think he's taken' when Snotlout is holding onto his hips to steady himself after he saves him on Hookfang. Despite these details it just feels RIGHT and I love it.

This is all mainly based on my RP portrayal of Monty, but!!!! That's ok!!!!!! Basically the same guy, just a bit more gay-

OK TIME FOR MY RAMBLE ABOUT MONTY BEING TRANS + HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DAYCARE ATTENDANT

Okok so Monty and DA started dating before Monty was even in the band. Like, back when Bonnie and Foxy were still around and Monty was just,,, the gator at Gator Golf. He was just a side-attraction, kinda like DJMM and DA. Side-attractions have less strict rules than the Glamrocks, so they can basically dress how they'd like (if it fits under the company's guidelines ofc)

DA enjoyed taking the kids to the golf course (because it's connected to the Daycare, y'know?), so they often had the chance to talk to Monty and Oh No The Gator Is Hot. Monty enjoyed DAs company, mainly because the other animatronics don't visit the side attractions that often. The Glamrocks have each other, DJ is too big to fit anywhere, so DA and Monty were the only ones that could really do things with each other.

DA was definetly the one that confessed first (Friends to Lovers, y'know) and Monty was just like "!!!! Two boyfriends? :DD" That's really how they started dating! Just something sweet like that, they deserve it.

OK NOW TO MONTY BEING TRANS BECAUSE I'M INSANE

He always knew that something was up with him, but just didn't know what exactly. He never really fully fit in with the other side-attractions, but obviously also wasn't a Glamrock member (yet). So he was always just... There. Even when he and DA started dating, that feeling never disappeared. Did he ever bother telling anyone about it? No, not at all. Why should he? They wouldn't understand him anyways because they fit into their corresponding groups.

He then eventually joined the band after the Bonnie incident (If you want a ramble about that too, tell me. That ramble will be based on an AU from one of my friends tho) and that's when it eventually clicked for him.

The outfits he had to wear during Gator Golf were ones he was able to chose himself, so he always felt comfortable, but when he joined the band? That changed. So did the way he had to act. His whole personality had to be changed when he was on-stage or interacting with customers.

His outfits were all picked out by the staff members that work in the Wardrobe department (is that the right term? Idk), so they were all rather feminine and flashy. Y'know, kinda like Roxy's or Chica's clothes. They were very different compared to the brown-green attire he wore in the swamp-like environment of Gator Golf.

The fact his personality had to be a completely different one when he was on-stage definitely messed with him too.

Being forced into a role you aren't would make anyone feel uncomfortable, y'know?

He eventually decided to tell DA about it (going to the BF for help is always a smart decision) and. Man. He was beyond relieved to hear DA actually be supportive. Probably cried a little bit about it too, let's be honest. DA was also the one that mentioned it to the staff members (with Monty's consent ofc).

That really then just let the ball rolling and that's how Monty eventually found out the term "transgender". He always felt more comfortable with the rather masculine clothes and demeanor he had back in his Gator Golf days, so he was just like... What if I'm a guy and DON'T just like the aesthetic?

The company didn't necessarily approve of that decision because changing him would cost too much money and be bad for the business, so Monty decided to perform his own top surgery.

IVE NEVER LIKE THOUGHT THOUGHT ABOUT IT it has never come up in my brain but IT IS A HEADCANON I LIKE see. There's a lot of themes of facades in HoW definetly (masks + the whole town of ambrose being a literal facade), and while like. This is not every trans persons experience!!! I dont even know if it is the majoritys!!! But it is mine!!! There can be this feeling of. Playing a role that isn't for you and you don't understand why (trying to fit within your assigned gender) and if u wanna play a more complex game, the (possible) facade of trying 2 fit all societally set gender norms of your actual gender to steer off dysphoria caused by how others view & treat you.. or even just the facade of gender in general, what it truly means, its fluidity, the roles we take up in diff situations. I did just had an exchange with someone on YouTube about how The Texas Chainsaw massacre 4: next generation is a campy movie. The person kept insisting it wasn't and that Leatherface wasn't campy, but I think she thinks Campy means gay or part of the lgbt+ community (specially the trans parts) somehow. Like, madam, I didn't imply that (a movie can be campy without being gay, after all) but Leatherface from the first movie wears his grandma apron and wigs when he's doing the "housework", he has a mask with (really bad) makeup in it. Hell, in the fourth movie there is a whole scene about him getting ready and using a black glittery gown and red nails and lips! And I know most likely the people that took that decision wanted to show Bubba as this "degenerate" villain that wears women's clothes (it was released after Silence of the lambs, after all) but it's actual canon that Bubba (Leatherface) likes to wear dresses and use makeup! Even the 2006 movie he once feels the final girls face, as if to pay homage to the fact Bubba does wear women's face. It's not me implying the cannibal is anything beyond the strict binary gender identity from the 90's! It's the freaking movie that dies it! It's legitimately canon! Or it at least its implying he likes to do Drag.

most of the time when people have headcannons about characters sexualities or ship specific characters that don't affect the plot and there isn't any "problem" with it, it doesn't bother me but there are two cases where it really does:

first, eddie from stranger things. it bothers me when people say he is anything other than gay, like exclusively attracted to non-women. i don't know i just don't like it

the other one is people who ship hunter and willow from the owl house. i think hunter is gay, exclusively attracted to non-women, and also trans, but that's not the point. but my main problem with this is i think willow is aroace, maybe sapphic oriented aroace, but definetly aroace.

light: thinks sie's a cis man for most of his life then discovers hes nonbinary genderfluid in a gay way. he/sie/hir/kira

L: nonbinary bisexual. perhaps transfem even but like not a woman or a man Fully...

misa: transmasc nonbinary femme lesbian. has so many pronouns in her carrd. some are he/her/haunt/kira/doll

near: interbinary bi they/them! i mostly see them as transmasc but i do adore the transfem interpretation especially of the 2020 oneshot.. near either a) stopped binding OR b) got estrogen. good for them

mello: nonbinary bi, she/him!

kiyomi: she gives me cis woman vibes but i do love trans woman kiyomi... also bi and definetly femme! she/her and maybe she discovers neopronouns and goes by glow/glows too.

mikami: gay trans man he/him!
