Flat Fluff Friday 💜

I recently started listening to Ghost Wax, and I'm enjoying it! It reminds me a lot of early TMA. The horror is unique and creepy, I'm enjoying the world building, and that it feels kinda like the Institute, if only the people that worked there actually did or accomplished anything lol (I really thought at the beginning of TMA that the rest of the institute would come into play at some point as the people who investigated the stuff, since there was an artifact storage and such, but that never came about). Like if The Archivist was Dr. Malcolm Ryder from A Voice from Darkness instead of Jon Sims.

But it also has the same "problem" TMA has, in that most of the statements come across as a writer telling a story and not a real person trying to relate their lived experience. They're all very articulate, include just enough relevant personal history, metaphors that are poetic but not something you just spout on the spot if you're telling someone about the worst moment of your life etc. There might be an in universe explanation for it like TMA eventually added but it's a tad immersion breaking.

I also wish the acting was just a tadddddd stronger. Voncid the protag has grown on me, and most of the statement givers understand their assignment perfectly, but some of the side characters are unconvincing. But I have a lot to go so I hope they settle in.

If you liked TMA I def recommend giving it a shot.

listen I expected literally Nothing from the D&D movie okay, like I can't make it clear enough that I expected the most soulless money grab with a good cgi budget imaginable, I went in having already gone through every stage of grief and landed on acceptance and LISTEN

I fucking CRIED during this dumb RPG movie. it wasn't just "not terrible" it was objectively good with a clever plot and compelling characters and sincere emotional beats. this movie loves D&D so fucking much and it NAILS the "a bunch of goobers try to be cool and accidentally discover The Power Of Friendship And Also Great Violence" classic D&D party vibe. their barbarian's last name is fucking Kilgore and my entire family cried in the theater.

I hope they make twelve of these motherfuckers.

Spring

My 8yo has drawn a comic in which Aziraphale proposes to Crowley. It shows the proposal, them walking down the aisle, everyone applauding, and them holding hands with rings. The last panel shows them at home watching TV with Crowley falling asleep mid-show. They're surrounded by hearts. A little arrow points to the words "And everyone fans and all were very happy."

That's not best bit.

The best bit is that at the bottom of the page, she's scrawled "IT'S GONNA HAPPEN, NEIL! JUST ADMIT IT!!"

I think I had better not tell her that Neil Gaiman inhabits Tumblr and is technically accessible even to a small extent...!

this is what this movie was about to me

It's kinda hilarious how the Lords in Black looked at Ted and went "yeah, no, fuck this one guy in particular" for no real discernible reason. Like, obviously, there's Tinky and his Spankoffski Poké Ball, but then there's Pokey who a) turned homeless!Ted immediately and then had him dance two feet away from his infected little brother and b) passes up on turning anyone with Join Us or Die solely to taunt/beat up Ted with his girlfriend and her husband. And! They all collectively agree that they're gonna try to make Grace/Steph/Peter all think that killing Pete is the way to go, even though they shouldn't really care whether Steph dies or Grace loses her [redacted] because they're all still "things they cherish the most". What the hell made these eldritch beings decide to fixate on fucking Ted of all people??

I love how aziraphale and crowley always care about humanity as a concept, but not always about actual individual humans quite as much, or not unless they receive a reminder. it's different when it's someone you know isn't it. it makes sense, getting caught up in the immortality of it all, the distance between your eternal life and their fleeting ones. no need getting attached, they'll be gone anyways. okay, this one was nice. we might have been sth like friends. wanted to check in with them, but they're dead now. been sixty years, oops. okay, we played with those humans like dolls and accidentally got attached. yeah, sorry bout that. yeah, you better forget about all that. never happened. but it did. it did happen and it has informed who they are and it becomes a part of them, that one singular human, back in 3500BC or or 41AD or 1876, who did that one singular wonderful thing, because they could and they were alive. when they're not careful enough, the angel and the demon, they care so much.

I'm trying to see the cards that you won't show I'm about to fold unless you say "Don't go" I would stay forever if you say "Don't go"
